I had Charlie King on the podcast where we discussed the madness of the contraceptive pill and anxiety medication. Charlie is a yoga instructor and tells a story which I know would have been difficult for her. These topics are not spoken about often enough and as a man I learnt a lot about this part of life for a woman.
I had a deep conversation with J.Malik on the union between the masculine & feminine energy and how important it is that we honor our truth. We discuss how sex is ultimately at war with the family unit and a weak family unit creates weak communities which then create a weak nation. Malik discusses how he believes if we can align ourselves under Gods law and build our family unit from a spiritual foundation we can repair the dysfunction of modern marriages.

Welcome back to another Stillness Ep! This week we chat with Josh Sherwell. Straight after high school Josh pursued a pro surfing career, but also got caught up in the party lifestyle drinking alcohol, taking drugs and eventually ended up selling drugs straight out of his parents house. This was Josh’s subconscious way of coping with his depressive state. It was only up until around 12 months ago when Josh decided to try and take his life. Fortunately, through his spirituality he experienced an overwhelming pull that made him realise that he had so much more to give. Josh shares with us how he overcame his depressive state and got back on track through changing his diet, lifestyle and explains how breath work saved his life and reconnected him with his Maori ancestors. He now runs a mens health and wellness program, The Gentlemen’s Club, and continues to work with his spiritual journey which he very vulnerably opens up about. To finish off the ep Rod and Josh talk about all things manifestation and where Josh manifests The Gentlemen’s Club to be in a few years.

Welcome to Episode 5 of the Stillness Podcast. This week’s episode brings you Trevor Blackstock who walks us through his journey of finding fulfilment which starts from when he lived in Sydney. After being made redundant from a job he found enjoyment in, Trevor went through a host of jobs that never brought him the same enjoyment which eventually took a toll on his mental health. At around age 30, he moved back in with his parents on the Sunshine Coast and invested in selling boats which unfortunately went South and put him in a lot of debt which took a long time to recover from, increased his stress and led him to a hospital trip for an anxiety attack. He shares how the attack made him feel and how he overcame it through breath work, exercising, clean eating, talking to people and realigning his values which eventually attracted new work opportunities that he is able to find enjoyment and fulfilment in again. They also chat about the everyday stillness journal and how it can be used to help people, like Trevor, when in a state of anxiety and what lessons have been learnt from jumping into risky business decisions and how learning through putting yourself out there brings more opportunities.

Today’s guest is Jake Ibbotson, who is the owner of Ibbotson Designs which offers digital designs for businesses. To start off the ep, Jake talks us through his journey to how he got into digital design and how he started his business and then dives into how he suffered from a severe and prolonged anxiety driven breakdown 2 years ago and how he overcame it. Jake’s triggers for his anxiety are mostly centred around alcohol, in which most people with anxiety or depression unfortunately turn to as a coping mechanism, and led Jake to another anxiety attack more recently. However, with determination and support he has made changes to ease the anxiety including challenging himself to stay sober for 3 months and implementing a more healthy and active lifestyle. To finish off this week’s episode, Jake and Rod chat about routine and habits and how meditation and breath work can be incorporated into routines to help anxiety through silencing the mind and finding moments of stillness.

Welcome to episode 2 of the Stillness Podcast. Today’s guest is Callan Krause, who is the co-owner of Corrective Culture. He chats with us about his journey to meeting his business partner and how they started Corrective Culture, but before all of that he shares how he ended up doing 7 months in prison. During that time he found ways to cope, including using body language to mask his fear and observing body language to understand emotion and how in hindsight, it was exactly where he needed to be in order to get where he is today. He also breaks down the foundations that Corrective Culture uses to heal and improve others' health and well being and how we’ve been conditioned to be so disconnected from what is actually good for us. Today’s guest is Lejae Surch, who is the owner of Admissive and also has a side hustle print shop business. Lejae shares with us his horror story growing up and how it led him down a path of self destruction and violence. He experienced abuse, toxic relationships and went through a pattern of destructive behaviour which caused him to lean on drugs, alcohol, sex and fighting to try and cope. Thankfully, through spiritual development he was about to redirect this energy and break the destructive cycle. While he still struggles with mental illness, he has kept up a successful business, is a professional freestyle rider and has learnt to deal with his mental state better through meditation and manifestation. Lejae is an incredible example of how finding stillness within can turn your life around.

Welcome to the Stillness podcast brought to you by The Pottery Studio. Our philosophy is to find stillness in the pottery process. We believe the mindful aspect of working with clay has a positive impact on one's mental health which is why we wanted to release this mini series in collaboration with our Movember campaign.
This is a collection of real and relatable conversations with men about their mental health. We talk to retired athletes, travellers, tradies, business owners and other professionals about how they have navigated their way through everything from drug dependencies to becoming fathers and other general life issues.
We are donating all proceeds from sessions attended by men in the Studio throughout November, to the Movember Foundation and the Grab Life By The Ball Charity. Find out more on our Instagram @thepotterystudio.
