We need confidence to engage the world around us and to point people to Christ. But it’s not just evangelism that we need help with. The ordinary things in the day-to-today of motherhood often require immense bravery as well. Act’s account of Stephen points us to our source of bravery and reminds us to look to Christ.
Even in the season of raising kids where there are so many demands on our finances and our time, God calls us to trust him and hold loosely to what he has given us. Resting in the security of God’s fatherly care, we can be freed from anxiously holding on to what we have and enter into a life of generosity.
We are called to be vessels of God’s healing power as we join him in his work to mend the brokenness around us. This can be as simple as lovingly bandaging the scraped knee of a toddler or offering emotional support to a friend who has just suffered a miscarriage. Acts reminds us that any instance of God’s healing at work is nothing short of a miracle.
Wondering how to share the Gospel with your kids or those you do daily life with? To be a witness for Christ, we don’t have to have a shocking testimony story or be professional apologists. We simply authentically share what God has done in our life.

The book of Acts, however, reminds us that we are commissioned to be witnesses for Christ wherever he has us. Our spiritual growth is not a burden laid on our own shoulders but an assured gift in Christ; yet, we do not remain inactive. We are given the call: abide. Spiritual fruit abounds when we stay close and connected to Jesus.
Jesus secured our eternal home in the Father’s presence with his death and resurrection. In whatever we face, we can press forward faithfully because of the hope we have in Christ! The hope of home strengthens us for the journey ahead.
We can tend to view suffering as proof of God’s apathy or even unkindness. Jesus, however, shows us that hardships are often the very thing that will draw us deeper into his life and show us more of his glory.
What are we tempted to entrust our hearts with besides Jesus? Where else might we be looking to find security, satisfaction or life? Jesus alone is worthy of the entrustment of our hearts. He alone is the Good Shepherd, who loves us best.
Jesus enables us to choose him over our sin by giving us eyes to see that only he can provide what we’re seeking! The light of the world, Jesus frees us from our sin by enlightening us to behold him and his love.
In Christ, we have nothing left to gain: our sins have been removed and his perfect life has been credited to us. Because all the devotion and love of the Father are already unconditionally ours, we can rest, completely satisfied.
Jesus invites us to face our fear, anxiety, and emptiness and bring them to him. He’s come to exchange the things of darkness for the things of light, the things of death for the things of life.
Revelation’s description of the New Creation motivates us to live fruitful lives in light of what’s to come! As we explore our destiny of reigning with God, we find our present work infused with dignity and purpose.

We don’t have to be told that something is broken within us; we feel it. The hungry ache for purpose; the unsettling state of loneliness; the frantic longing to feel satisfied; the draining battle with anxiety; the incessant burden of guilt and shame…things are not as they should be. The Bible acknowledges this brokenness, and it claims to hold the path to restorative life. Made up of sixty-six different books, the Bible tells one story centered on the loving salvation of God.
The purpose of history, the goal of the whole Christian story, is worship. We will one day see God face to face, fully beholding his glory, and our hearts will respond in adoration to their fullest capacities. Worshiping God is what we were created for, and our hearts will sing on and on for eternity, going deeper into everlasting joy.
Revelation gives us a fresh vision of God’s glory, both to reawaken our appetite for God and to sustain us with hope as we journey home.
Jude encourages us to remain firm in our faith by keeping ourselves in the love of God. But most significantly, Jude’s letter provides the motivation to remain in Christ but reminding us of who God is and what he has done…
When our conscience declares our guilt, there is only one voice loud enough to overpower it, and that is the pardoning edict of God! He is more merciful towards us than our own heart. No matter our sin, the extent of which God understands far more than we do, God’s grace is greater.
When we trust in the care and control of God over our lives, we can live fearlessly. Peter’s message directs us to our safety in Christ: Jesus is keeping you and your future secure. He is a safe place of empathy and care. He has the last word and he will set you on firm ground again.
The root of all wisdom is faithful dependence upon God, and what better to teach us dependence than circumstances we feel ill equipped to handle? In whatever you might be facing, you can consider your trials all joy (James 1:2) because they keep you close to your heavenly Father, the source of all wisdom.
What brought Jesus joy before his incomprehensible suffering and death? The thought of saving you and embracing you as his child. After encountering a love like this, nothing else compares. He is worthy of it all. When we fix our eyes on Jesus and his worthiness of our devotion, we find strength to endure.
Is there someone in your life who has hurt or wronged you? Forgiveness is a process that requires wisdom and discernment, but in its simplest form, it requires us surrendering punishment to God. Herein lies the power to do so: Christ reconciled himself to us while we were sinners, so we can forgive and love those who have hurt us.
As citizens of God’s kingdom, what does our behavior tell the world about our King? How we live as followers of Christ is deeply significant, because we have the opportunity to reflect our savior to a world who does not know him!
To be faithful leaders, we don’t have to depend on our own power! Our inadequacy leads us to depend on the power of God, who draws near and strengthens us in our weakness.
What we hope for shapes what we live for. Followers of Christ are able to live faithfully to God because they see things from the proper perspective! Any present discomfort or sacrifice is nothing in comparison to the glory that is to come at Christ’s return!

When our lives as Believers are geared around the mission of making Christ known, we can find purpose and contentment in any circumstance, even immense suffering. Here lies a joy that no one can take away.
Do you ever feel a disconnect between your beliefs and your behavior? In Paul’s letter to the Ephesians, he joins the two together. Paul shows how a deeper knowledge of Christ’s blessings empowers Christians to flourish in their living.
The Gospel asserts that we are saved through faith by grace alone. But as time goes on, it can be easy to feel less needy; to begin relying on our own efforts; to take pride in our advancement. The message of Galatians draws us back to humble and life-giving reliance on Christ.
Sometimes, weakness is the best witness. Our unrealized dreams; our struggle with mental health; our persistent battle with temptation; our lack of resources or influence: in Christ, our lack is gain.
Where do you need Christ’s power to love the people in your life? The message of 1 Corinthians invites you to look at the cross. The cross humbles us. Compels us to sacrifice. Unites us as the body of Christ. At the cross, we find the power to love.
Our lives are living testimonies of the Gospel, showcasing that in Christ, all can be transformed and redeemed
God’s mission isn’t thwarted by adversity: it is the very ground God’s work thrives on.
The first words of the Bible record God speaking creation into life. In deliberate parallel, John opens his book by presenting God as speaking salvation into life. Humanity’s disobedience corrupted God’s original creation, bringing brokenness and death into the world and separating mankind from God. But according to John, hope has arrived!
At some point in life, we’ve all found ourselves on the outside looking in, at a loss for how we might gain entrance or belonging. For anyone burdened with a sense of not being enough - smart enough, popular enough, competent enough - Luke proclaims the Jesus who welcomes all, especially the outsider.
In most religions, gods stay at a distance from humanity, needing to be appeased with service or acts of devotion. The existence of such another god wouldn’t be big news. But Mark is bursting at the seams with excitement regarding what he has to share about God! With a breathless eagerness, Mark showcases in his book who Jesus is and what he has done. At the core of his message is the one, true God who came not only to serve humanity but to sacrifice himself for them.
Most kingdoms prize strength and status, but not God’s. Jesus became king by suffering and dying, and we invite the world to see and desire God by modeling his humility.
When we forget or doubt God’s love, we drift away from him. Micah wakes us up the reality of our often apathetic spiritual state and revitalizes us with the truth of God’s persevering love.
We have an intrinsic desire for purpose, but it’s often deadened by our competing wants for things such as security, comfort or ease. Such was the case with Israel. The prophet Haggai confronts the Israelites for prioritizing the building of their own homes over God’s temple. Today, his message both convicts and inspires us to take up the calling of building God’s house: the family of his people.
Do you find yourself fluctuating with the ups and downs of your performance? God grounds his people with a new identity rooted in his unconditional love. Zephaniah declares, “God rejoices over you with gladness. He quiets you with his love. He exults over you with loud singing.”
Habakkuk was able to possess joy and strength in his hard circumstances because he found hope in God. We too have hope for a restored world through Christ! Both hardship and flourishing can serve to deepen this hope and empower us to live faithfully.
The book of Nahum highlights God’s judgment on sin, and while this might not be a popular topic, God’s grace will never be precious to us until we grasp this reality. God’s justice, satisfied on the cross, moves us to gratitude and worship.
The prophet Micah confronts the Israelites for their empty religion: claiming to love God but living without love or morality. “What does the Lord require of you but to do justice, to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? (Micah 6:8)” When Jesus came to Earth, he perfectly embodied justice, kindness and humility. Because we are united to Jesus, we have the power to live likewise.
Jonah’s story leads us to examine our hearts towards those who have hurt us. While we are inclined to hold onto bitterness, the cross of Christ gives us the power to show mercy and live in freedom.
Do you want to be free from the need to prove yourself? In the book of Obadiah, God delivers a message of judgment upon Israel’s rival, the nation of Edom, for their pride and arrogance. Naturally, we are like Edom, insecure and striving for significance. But God’s love and exaltation in Christ gives us an unshakeable confidence: we have nothing left to prove!
In Jesus’s love for us, we receive the compulsion and power to love others radically! Just as God called Israel to be a community of love, so God now calls Christians to love as Jesus loved them! A lack of care and compassion reveals a lack of comprehension of what we’ve received in Christ.
Our root problem is not our behavior but our desires: sin happens when we desire things like success, approval or comfort over God. In Joel, we explore God’s promise to pour out his Spirit upon his people, a reality set in motion by the death and resurrection of Jesus! The Holy Spirit fans the flame of our desire for God, empowering us to turn from sin and experience renewal!
Is your life centered on God’s heart of love for you? It’s only in knowing God’s love that we then begin to change and love in response! The book of Hosea gloriously displays the unconditional love of God with the imagery of an unfaithful wife and her loving husband, moving us to respond to God with our faithfulness.
In Daniel, God’s people were able to live fearlessly because they knew God was stronger than the opposition! In our suffering, we too can persevere because our hope is in God’s victory and his presence with us.
Isn’t it baffling how often we choose to struggle alone when God is right there with us? When we’re aware of God’s presence with us, we inevitably move forward in the right direction. Ezekiel encourages us to look to the life-giving presence of God in our uncertainty and anxiety.
Do your sin and struggles ever restrain you from going to God? The wonderfully surprising message of Lamentations is that God’s deepest heart, what he actually delights to do, is to show compassion to his people. God does not begrudgingly forgive; rather, his love flows forth all the more in our sin.
Is belonging to God the core of who you are? Or are you defining yourself by the approval of others? The things you achieve? The good things you do? What God wants is for you to rest secure in the truth of Jeremiah 31: “I am yours and you are mine.” He is inviting you to live out of your identity as his loved child.
Have you ever thought about the reality that chasing after something we believe will make us happy is a form of worship? While the worship of things like money, influence or pleasure unravels us, God rebuilds us and brings us abundant life! Isaiah urges us to see God’s love and restorative power and so respond with our worship!
How are we to view sex in a culture that treats it so lightly? God wants his people to treasure sexual intimacy within the bounds of marriage, both to enjoy it in the best way and to honor its design. Marriage reflects the type of relationship Jesus has with his people, so both our enjoyment and disappointment in our romantic lives can serve to draw us closer to God.
Life is often hard and unexplainable, but those who hope in God are able to find contentment in any circumstance! A life framed by eternal hope means abundant living in the present.
We all want to live wisely in life, but do you ever get overwhelmed with how many different perspectives are out there? Proverbs offers a simple solution: if you want wisdom, fear God! To fear God means to trust that he knows best and that he instructs you out of love.
Through prayer, the Psalms teach us to bring our emotions to God and allow his Word to shed light on them. Rather than suppressing our feelings or being blindly controlled by them, we learn to ground our feelings and experiences in Christ and go deeper into his peace.
When hard things happen to you, do you question God’s love? Job didn’t understand the reason for his suffering, but he learned to trust God when he saw God’s power and control over all things. The cross shows us that there is love behind God’s sovereignty: Jesus suffered pain for you so that you could bring your pain to him.
Is God leading you to step up and take action? Esther took a leap of faith to save her people by trusting in God’s sovereignty. You also can live boldly and faithfully when you live in light of God’s ultimate power and control.
In Ezra & Nehemiah, the Israelites gave into discouragement over the community and city they were working to rebuild, so God said he would fulfill the role of restoring his people and world. In the same way, when you feel discouraged, know that God is at work in your work! God is using your efforts and redeeming them. He’s weaving them together in his plan, in ways you can’t even see or comprehend now.
In their times of doubt, the Israelites recounted stories of God’s faithfulness to them. When you question God and his love for you, you can do the same. Reflect on God’s past faithfulness, his love and forgiveness demonstrated on the cross, to maintain hope for it to continue.
Do you ever look up and wonder, “How did I get so far down this bad path?” In 1 & 2 Kings, the Israelites ignored God’s warnings and persisted in their sin. This eventually led to God’s judgment. Likewise, our sin deserves judgment, but Jesus took that on when he died on the cross! Because of Jesus, we can have the freedom and confidence to bring our struggles and failures into the light before God and others. Confession is the necessary step toward freedom from your sin’s power and shame.
Do you want to be used by God? Because David submitted to God as his King, God empowered him to lead well as Israel’s king. What God wants from you is not perfection but a heart that seeks his will and his power to walk in it.
“Where is God in the messy, broken parts of my life?” Out of brokenness and tragedy, God redeemed Ruth and gave her a new life, weaving her story into his cosmic plan of redemption. Her story reminds us that our setbacks are not dead-end streets! Christ has for us a beautiful, eternal future, where one day all will be made right, and all our experiences will be redeemed to display the glory of God.
What happens when you decide you don’t like the path of following Christ? When you pursue things you know he commands against such as pornography, success at the cost of community, or sex outside of marriage?
In the book of Judges, God remained faithful to Israel even when Israel was unfaithful. Because Jesus fulfilled God’s conditions on our behalf, God loves us unconditionally. Your belonging doesn’t depend on your holding onto God but on God holding on to you! This good news is an invitation to respond to God with our loyalty.
Are you living with strength and courage, in dependence upon God’s power? In the way you share the Gospel; in the way you live on mission in your work and community; in the way you’re fighting sin in your life?
In the book of Joshua, the Israelites were able to enter the Promised Land with strength and courage because they knew the battle belonged to God and His victory was certain! Today, Christians boldly join Jesus in his work by living in light of the victory that was secured on the cross.
Is your love for God directing the way you live? Moses called the Israelites to love God with all their heart, soul and might if they wanted to choose life over death. It is dependence on Jesus that empowers us to love God and experience abundant life!

Psychology tells us that energy goes where attention goes. Where is your attention focussed?
God gave the Israelites guidelines to follow so that they could exist in his holy, perfect presence, but these were insufficient to deal with the root problem. Now, because Jesus sacrificed his life for our sin, God’s holy presence permeates every part of our lives! When we fix our attention on God and the work he’s doing in us, we grow in holiness.

Do you ever feel anxious or stressed in your spiritual journey, like you’ll never be able to change or grow? God gave Israel his law, but they were unable to obey it on their own. God places a calling on every believer: Go and make disciples! Believers carry out this calling within the unique roles God gives them, such as spouse, employee, parent, teacher or leader.
