If you want to create a calm and relaxing environment, there are many ways to do it. One of the most popular methods is using aromatherapy. Essential oils have been used in aromatherapy for centuries because they can be harnessed as powerful tools that promote physical and emotional well-being. So given we are candle makers, why is essential oil in candles so good for us? It all has to do with our sniffer. A small town often holds within it a treasure. Humble treasure in the form of a person.
Golden humans who go beyond care and into a level of compassion and dedication that fills hearts. In a world that can often feel self-serving and lonely, this kind of treasure is vital. Why? Because when acts of kindness and kinship enter a person’s life for no other reason than the recognition that they need a little help- it changes lives. In Kyabram Victoria, Liz Dillon is this treasure.

We ponder with Netherlands native and Geelong’s newest addition to the style scene- Maartje Hartveldt.
Scandinavian influence on design, and its persistent popularity make it more than a cultural trend we infuse, copy and paste – but rather an enduring aesthetic that appears to really resonate with those seeking simplicity, elements of nature, light and refuge. Rising to popularity in the 1940’s and 1950’s Nordic clean line interiors have a philosophy behind the style. We caught up with Maarjte Hardveldt from MH Interior Decorating to ponder the intrigue of Scandi design and renovation decisions.

For the linguaphile -the word hygge comes from a Danish word meaning “to give courage, comfort, joy”. Hygge stems from hyggja which means “to think” in Old Norse. The films I make are couture frocks — extremely labor intensive. You know, they’re like a beacon. You’re not going to be making something that will endure or have an imprint on the culture if it isn’t drawing violent juxtaposing critical responses.” – Baz Luhrmann
If you love cinema, then you know about the Australian director, producer and writer Baz Luhrmann. Having four of his five films in the top 10 highest-grossing films in Australia, his mark on the film industry Down Under is indelible. But just who is the man behind the movie magic?

Dear Friend,
I would love to see you, but here’s the thing- I’m exhausted.
I reminisce about our 20’s, the days of grabbing our sunglasses and wallets and following the music, complaining about uni assignments or how insanely busy work was- ha! We thought we were crazy busy back then… HILARIOUS!

Like many all over the world, our hearts are left swollen and aching as we witness on our screens and for some in their backyards; the scorched earth and hellish sky.
Beach blue now engulfed with smoke haze and embers of the worst kind; scarring the land with unprecedented ferocity. Beneath with sooty tears and anger lies the desperation of people fighting in what has become one of the worst National disaster bushfires in Australian history. The devastation runs deep and will continue long after the last flame as sputtered out. For the impact of wildfire is a destructive force that will echo forever.

Superman was faster than a speeding bullet and could walk through fire, but his Kryptonite was the supposed curse that befell him.
Or at least the actors who played him. If you are one to believe in curses, the Superman Curse is probably one of the most famous in Hollywood. From career failures to illnesses, horrific injuries and untimely deaths, the Superman Curse has plagued most of the 20th-century actors that have played the Man of Steel as well as other actors and creatives involved in the Superman world.

We all want to change something in society; however, often we forget that we must change ourselves first.
If you look to other people in the world who have created monumental change like Gandhi, you realise that they must have had some inner shift emotionally, mentally and spiritually, which enabled them to succeed.
As Gandhi rightly said, “We must become the change we want to create” and if you can realise the true meaning of this then you become more powerful than you think you are... by Melissa Griffiths

We all know Roald Dahl, the prolific author, and a true ponderer of childhood imagination.
Whether it be befriending a giant, turning into a blueberry, escaping witches, living in a peach or using telekinesis to make objects dance, Dahl created a marvellous timeless world transpiring from paper, and tv screens, to hearts.
What was your favourite Roald Dahl novel? I’m indecisive, trying to decide between Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Matilda is not an easy gig...

The term loneliness is quite often thrown around in daily thought; we have all been there.
Sometimes you find yourself in a moment of reflection, maybe between your busy schedule or no schedule at all, wishing you had a background ambience, someone to talk to. You may find yourself using a quick fix by turning on the T.V, writing in your journal, playing a podcast or phoning a friend.

What goes around comes around, but does it really?
Where does this ideology come from and have we misused it in our Western perception?
From a young age, many of us are brought up with the concept that we must treat people the way you would like to be treated. This has Christian foundations, based on “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”, a biblical concept spoken by Jesus in Luke 6:31 and Matthew 7:12. There is a Chinese proverb that suggests how you treat the elderly is the way you will be treated when you are old. Even when someone does something untoward and mean to you, often the most common answer is “they will have it coming for them, Karma will bite them back”.
What goes up, must come down- this idiom originated in the 1800s and came from the physical properties of gravity. If you throw a ball in the air, it will come back down... listen to more

There are archetypal roles in human history, representing and maintaining the “moral compass” aspect of our human collectiveness.
Shaman, Cleverman, Kung, Elder, Healer, Judge, Psychologist, Nun, Yogini, Pastor, Rabbi, Journalist, the list of these intended guarding personages goes on. They all share a common fibre; people have looked to them to show us the way, to set the example and uphold safety, truth and care for the good of each other. One such very admired role is that of Doctor.
The learned person who cares for the vulnerable and ill. Yet according to many in the field, it is becoming frighteningly apparent in many Australian medical establishments, the rose of the medical compass is faltering, no longer pointing North but rather bending towards closed doors.

She ran away from the pain her whole life.
As a small child, she learned very quickly that a gross room torn with old wallpaper and mildew could be quickly transformed with a diamond-infused paintbrush. Diamonds crushed from the ideals of television families and fairy tales could be blended into the bristles of the brush to create alchemy.
She took a thought gently pulled like fairy floss and moulded it with her hands. Some singing and stamping of feet and a diamond-encrusted paintbrush would appear in its place. She was ready to paint the walls. Anything could be transformed- a yellowed bruise, the words thrown like poisoned darts, the dark looks and the nights of terror...
