Invisible Crisis on the Transgender Community | Webinar (April 5th)The Transgender Day of Visibility or TDOV is an annual observance held on March 31st to celebrate transgender people and raise awareness about the discrimination and challenges they face. Transgender individuals and those who identify as LGBTQIA+ often experience higher rates of mental health issues, and increased rates of poverty, unemployment, and homelessness compared to the general population. This is largely due to the discrimination, stigma, and lack of acceptance they may face in society. Our goal in this webinar is to deepen our understanding of these issues and explore ways in which we can support the transgender community in its fight for equality and dignity. We will hear from a range of experts and activists, who will share their insights, experiences, and strategies for advocacy and allyship.

Discussion around mental health is filled with stigma. For men, this challenge is heightened. Many cultures around the world have a negative label associated with mental health issues. Preconceived notions about “manliness” have resulted in a taboo for men who wish to be open about their struggles. Fear of being seen as weak or not being understood by those in their society are some of the concerns.
