Just before they set off on their third walk, Tim, Mike and Andy of the 3 Dads Walking hang up their boots and have a sit down to chat about memories of their previous walks across every corner of the country, their incredible fundraising of over £1 million which greatly supported PAPYRUS' HOPELINE247 helpline go 24/7, their Pride of Britain award, and most importantly their three daughters Emily, Beth and Sophie that they sadly lost to suicide.

The Dads set off on their 'Walk of Hope 2024' on the 17th April. Starting at the Stirling PAPYRUS Office, their 25 day trek takes them down the east of the country to finish at Norwich Town Hall on the 11th May. Why is it so important to have your voice heard as a young person? February marks Children's Mental Health Week, with this years topic being "My Voice Matters". Sophie from HOPELINE247, Lucy Oliver from Merseyside Youth Association and Siobhan Keating, a young person's advocate, all discuss the importance of encouraging young people to speak up and find the power in their own voice.

In light of a new video campaign between PAPYRUS, MYA, YPAS and CAMHS, this episode also discusses safety planning, a collaborative tool between a young person who is struggling with thoughts of suicide and a trained suicide prevention adviser, describing what one is and how it works.

United by the tragic death of their daughters, the three dads walked more than 300 miles in 2021 to raise vital awareness and funds for PAPYRUS. This year they plan to double that by walking more than 600 miles visiting all four nations across the UK.

For Episode 13 of PAPYRUS HOPECAST we are joined by Millie, Mark and Grace from BAFTA Award-winning animation studio, Blue Zoo. On World Suicide Prevention Day, we will be releasing an animation created by Blue Zoo, called ‘Sinking Feeling’. Sinking Feeling explores themes such as isolation, loneliness and suicidal thoughts, highlighting the importance of reaching out to support those around you.

We caught up with the team from Blue zoo earlier this week via Zoom to learn more about the incredible animation they have created and the processes behind the masterpiece. In this podcast we discuss how the animation came about, the process of creating the animation including stylistic choices, the themes and messages explored in the animation and why creating this animation means so much to those involved at Blue Zoo.

In this podcast, the panellists talk about suicide prevention in the LGBT+ community, why LGBT+ History Month is important and what it means to them. We also address key themes of shame and stigma in both the LGBT+ community, and within suicide prevention.

We look at the importance of sharing our stories, of telling our own histories, and how – as a society – we can be better allies. It’s a conversation filled with hope – filled with both lived, and living experience – and an extremely important conversation to have in order to smash the stigma around suicide, and make it part of everyday conversation

For episode 11 of the PAPYRUS HOPECAST we are joined by Dane Buckley from Rainbow Migration (formerly UKLGIG) as part of LGBT+ History Month. Dane is the Support Services Manager for Rainbow Migration and he leads on growing, developing and delivering services offering practical, psychosocial and emotional support to LGBTQI+ people who are seeking asylum. 

Rainbow Migration is an organisation that supports LGBTQI+ people through the asylum and immigration system, and provides legal advice and information to LGBT+ people seeking to live in the UK. His previous role was in the Leaving Care Team (Medway Social Services) and before that he was the Wellbeing Service Manager for the London Irish Centre. He is from Harrow and lives in Kent. He identifies as gay and is of Irish and Anglo-Indian heritage. 

We caught up with Dane earlier this year via Zoom to learn more about the brilliant work that Rainbow Migration is doing. In this podcast we discuss mental health within the LGBTQI+ community, Dane gave us some of his best self-care tips, and we also talked about HOPE.

For episode 10 of the PAPYRUS HOPECAST we’re chatting to Love Island star and fitness guru Anton Danyluk. Anton was a contestant and finalist on 2019’s Love Island. Since leaving the island, he’s set up a gym to promote physical wellbeing. Anton has opened up on social media about struggles he had as a kid and bullying that he experienced – and how this affected his confidence.   

We caught up with Anton in February 2020 while filming for our campaign “Bedtime Stories Chapter 2” in Manchester. We talked about his time on Love Island, his experience with online bullying and trolling and his goals for the future.
