Have you heard these myths about late autism diagnosis and self-discovery? Myth 1: It's too late to get diagnosed as an adult. Myth 2: Autism only affects children. Yet, it was during this time of introspection that he realized the power of storytelling and community. He started the 'Inside the Orange' and later 'Advocate to Autistic' podcasts, platforms that served as a conduit for sharing personal experiences, insights, and resources. These ventures were not just about Rich’s journey, but about creating a space for others to share their stories and feel less alone in their experiences.,Life took a surprising turn for Rich Stevenson when his youngest son, a happy and bubbly toddler, was diagnosed with autism. As a father, Rich found himself in a sea of challenges, fears, and uncertainties. Yet, he faced them head-on, adapting his life around his son's needs. The struggles and triumphs he encountered in raising his son subsequently led him on an unexpected path of self-discovery, culminating in his own autism diagnosis later in life. The knowledge was both an answer and a question, a resolution and a mystery. Unraveling that mystery inspired him to share his journey with the world, initiating conversations about autism through his podcasts, 'Inside the Orange' and 'Advocate to Autistic'. Rich’s voice not only resonates with his own experiences but weaves together the collective experiences of a broader community, offering solace, guidance, and a shared sense of belonging.

Hey everyone,
in this episode of Inside the Asperger Studio: Stories. I talk with Patty .
This is a very interesting episode of stories because we learn about Patty Laushman and her struggle she had with getting her son diagnosed with ASD and we find out that she may have ADHD as well. We talk a bit about how she tried all methods to help her son thrive in the world and how she finally went with of the the most controversial methods which is ABA Therapy.
This is one of the most controversial because in the ASD community because of the ways the therapist goes about helping the client but like Patty said, it depends on the therapist you get. Patty swears by the therapist she got and he has helped her son in a way that he is able to succeeded in ways no other way could.
Now you are probably wonder why it is so controversial. Well as a friend told me there was a video going around the net with a therapist holding down the child's arms and retraining him from flapping. Flapping is one of the ways those of us on the spectrum stimulate to comfort ourselves.
Patty also talks how she had a few businesses and how she came to start her Life Coaching service. If you listen to end she is offering a free 30 minute session with her, but you have to listen to end of podcast for the website to go to.

He talks about how part of his business Humans First to help get companies back to 4 day work week with eliminating things that can be over the phone instead of the email. He also talks about how he works with families to so they can put down the phones at dinner time by establishing goals missions for the families to follow.
He talks about how he feels he has Sensory Processing Disorder but in fact all the things he mentions are all traits of ASD.
Which shocked him.
We talk about so much more.
So stay tuned it was a very interesting show.

What makes his game interesting is that his wife Amanda wrote the stroy for the game and his daughter did the illustrations for it, so it was a famliy designed game. Cris goes into talking about if you want to develop a game and dont know know a lick of programming language the best way to go is using a graphical programming platform like Unity, 3D Max or Unreal Engine which is all drag and drop and you see no code what so ever.
We also talk about that Sandbox games are the best, because they dont hold the user back they can play the game the way they want to play.

Anna also talks about what a normal session is like for her clients and how long they normally run for. She says that she has clients who have come in with one or the other, to only find out that they have both and it's like a light bulb going off to discover that have had both ADHD and ASD and just finding out know.
She also mentioned a blog post from her about does ADHD life coaching really make a difference. https://www.grantacoaching.com/post/does-adhd-coaching-work-what-difference-does-it-make So go give it a read.
We also talk a bit about memory and how in ADHD it is affected and what can be done to help. One of the things she told me I have heard before is that with ADHD we will only hold things in memory that hold a certain interest to us. But she also said that we are not like filing cabinets, so we cant just retrieve something if some asks us about a day, but we have to use linking to associate it with what we did on a particular day.
What she means is that if someone asked about a a particular day, we wouldn't be able to remember, but if they said do you remember when we went to the mall and bought said item. We would be able to remember it, because it was linked from one thing to another. But also if we hold no interested in certain things we just lose it in our memory
