We have a unique a certified Feng Shui practitioner and Yoga instructor. Â Her name is Sarah Fakhouri. Â We will be talking about Creating balance through yoga and feng shi.
Saraâs path to the ancient acts of healing began at 13,000 feet off of the ground. She sought after moments of stillness while in free fall during skydiving, where the only sounds you hear are the sounds of your breath, and the collective noise of the universe. Her need to feel connected to earth and the energy of our universe was only actualized by the exaggerated movement of jumping out of a plane to land on earth with both feet planted on the ground. But a healing trip with friends to a yoga retreat in Thailand was all it took for her to realize that observing your breath on the mat, and harmonizing that breath with physical movement was a powerful act of connectedness matched by none, not even skydiving between the heavens and earth. This experience triggered a series of explorations into ancient healing practices including Feng Shui and Yoga that lead to a formal training in both practices.

We have a cool and knowledgeable personal trainer with us today. Â His name is Geoff Etherson. Â We will be talking about why strength training and lifting weights is super important for overall health and fat loss.
Geoff was born and raised in Anaheim, and spent most of his youth playing sports. After finishing his athletic career playing football at Golden West College, he realized that he needed something to compete at. It was at this time that Geoff found his true passion in weight training.
After receiving his AA at Golden West in Health Science, he attended the California University of Pennsylvania, where he graduated with a B.S. in Exercise Physiology and Sports Management.
After graduating Geoff took a 4 month internship with the Washington Redskins as an assistant to the head strength coach John Hastings. It was there that Geoff learned how to implement the knowledge that he had retained from school. Learning how the coaches programmed the workouts to achieve each athleteâs goals is what gave him the idea for Train Insane. Taking the principles used by professional athletes, and modifying them for the average Joe or Jane.

We have a hard working and knowledgable personal trainer with us today. Â His name is Guy Petruzzelli. Â We will be talking about How to get back into the game to become the your healthiest.
As a 43 year old professional  duathlete, who, at the age of 20, found a real passion for multi-sport, was forced to take some time away. I was hit by a car in 1996, leaving me rather injured and finding a comeback difficult. So I finished law school, passed the Illinois Bar exam and thought my time in the sport was over.
In 2002, I was fortunate to have some close friends, who were concerned about my physical state, encourage me to get back into the sport. It wasnât easy, but I came back to it with more desire, drive and passion. I worked hard under the coaching supervision of the great Jennifer Garrison, and in 2008 I was offered an opportunity to turn professional. It was a dream come true. I left law in 2009 to pursue my dream of being a professional multisport athlete and I have been blessed with the opportunity to do more with the sport, and meet a ton of great people along the way.
As the 2010 season started to heat up in June, I was out for a training ride and once again, hit by a car. This time, I was left with a broken right collarbone and 3 broken ribs. My doctor insisted that even with surgery, I would miss the remainder of the season and would most likely not even be able to train hard until the start of 2011. I refused to believe that I would be limited for that long. So right after surgery I went to see Nate Aye and John Conquest at Crossfit DuPage. I was very honest about my goals as an athlete and the desire to be in the top tier of pro multisport athletes in 2011. They were very honest in turn, and made it clear â my goals were attainable, but it would take hard work and an open mind. From that day forward, I never looked back.
A short 6 weeks later I met someone I knew would be a friend for life. Someone who was as driven as I was, constantly  challenging the norm, and believed that working smart was the key to success in multisport. Brian McKenzie from Crossfit Endurance opened my eyes to even more change to my training methods, breaking down old school endurance training ideology, improving my running form, and changing my mentality as how I approach training and racing. I was skeptical for the first hour I heard him talk, and then I watched as in less than 48 hours, I had improved my running efficiency by 53%. I was a believer.
With Brianâs help, I was able to achieve 2 things in less than 5 weeks â continue to speed up my healing process, and improve fitness. When I went to see my doctor at week 9 post-surgery, the x-rays showed 90% bone growth, and I was cleared to race duathlons. But the most amazing part â my 5K time dropped, my LT wattage on the bike increased by 33% and I was 8 lbs. lighter than pre-accident. This wasnât by accident; this was due to following Crossfit Strength and Crossfit Endurance principles. Best part, Iâm still improving. Â To spread the word of my recovery and passion, I was the focus of a Triathlete Magazine article in the February 2011 edition, written by TJ Murphy. I was then added to the book written by Brian MacKenzie in November 2012 â âPower, Speed, Endurance, a skill based approach to endurance trainingâ, and featured in Chris Solomonâs article in the January 2013 issue of Outside Magazine, where Chris chronicles his use of Crossfit Endurance to train for a marathon. Â To prove that I practice what I preach, Iâve been working with Cody Burhardt, head coach at Power Speed Endurance, to help me reach my current world rank of 11th in Duathlon. Iâve also appeared on the podcast www.athleteologist.com â episode 8,where I was able to share my story.

We have fun and knowledgeable yoga instructor with us today. Her name is Heather Rems Korwin. Â We will be talking about taking your physical yoga practice beyond the mat.
I started practicing yoga over a decade ago. First I dabbled, then I got hooked. Then I started teachingâŚby accident. I started teaching without any formal training (that came later). I was scared & nervous when I started, but I loved it so much I didnât let that stop me. Itâs been a wild ride. Now I own two studios in Connecticut where I teach regularly & offer yoga teacher training. I love sharing what I know about this practice â what Iâve learned about myself through it on my mat. And what Iâve learned to take off my mat. And thatâs what the bent yogi is all about. Sharing what Iâve learned (and am still learning) with you. What challenges me, what scares me, what inspires me. In the hopes that I can inspire you too.

We have a cool outgoing yoga instructor. Her name is Cassandra Justine. Â We will be talking about the journey from physical yoga to something more.
Through the vessel of her LLC, Choose Joy, she holds space for yogis and seekers to discover their dharma and tap into their power. She facilitates such transformation through sacred movement, energy healing, tarot, dream-building, poetry, and motivational speaking. She shares her message globally on Instagram as @cassyogaand via her Bliss Blog | Soul In Love. Rumor has it she is manifesting a world tour. Join her newsletter for weekly playlists, inspiration, and to hear about upcoming workshops, events, and retreats.
Movement is her first language. She was a mover; shape-shifting and exploring her boundaries, body, mind, and spirit. Perhaps this was why her mom gave her a yoga book as a young child. Cass shares, âI remember flipping through the pages and trying the different postures, my competitive mind loved the challenge,â but it was so much more than physical for her. She became enthralled by the mysticism of the eight-limb path.
A desire to teach yoga overcame her in 2009 as a young college student. The idea crossed her mind while in savasana at a campus class. The experience propelled her to enroll in teacher training at Moksha Yoga Center. She started teaching right away. After devotedly logging 1000 hours of study, the Chicago suburbanite was officially certified in 2010.

We have self made cook and personal trainer. Her names Julia Burns. Â We will be talking about making healthy eating tasty without the guilt.
After years of floundering in a career she was unhappy with and consistently turning to her love of food and fitness to fulfill her outside of her life in the corporate world, she turned fitness into a career. Â But in the midst of building her business, she found herself stressed, over worked, and eventually sick. Â It occurred to her that something was missing â many things were missing actually. Â Like so many people, she wasnât sleeping enough, managing her stress, or taking care of her body and mind in a meaningful way. Â
Working long hours, she would come home to an empty kitchen and just a few hours to sleep. Â Something had to change. Â So she got back in the kitchen to restore her health through nutrition and a passion for creating something delicious. Â And thus The Empty Cupboard Club began in October 2013. Â
It started with a small idea to share my food and personal training expertise with friends and family. Â In addition to creating delicious, nutrient dense meals, The Empty Cupboard Club strives to create a community and conversation around food and fitness that re frames your viewpoint. Â The ECC presents fitness and nutrition as a gift that is full of possibilities.

He has been in the fitness industry since 2009 and has always had a passion for helping others. Like many others little boys his age, his story started on the grammar school basketball team with the idea that if he became a little stronger, a little faster and jump a little higher, maybe that popular kid in school would be him! It didnât quite turn out that way, but in the process he found something worth so much more.
After getting out of the military, he decided to go after my passion in health and fitness by obtaining my personal trainer certification through the American College of Sports Medicine and also becoming a certified Fitness Nutrition Coach through NESTA. In 2009 Â he started Fit4Life by Alonzo, a personal trainer company that helps individuals lose weight and have fun doing it. With Fit4Life by Alonzo, it is his way to pass on my knowledge to others who dreams are to live the way they want without any limitations. Helping others has become his passion and the thing that drives him 365 days a year.

Duration of the effect[edit]
The EPOC effect is greatest soon after the exercise is completed and decays to a lower level over time. One experiment found EPOC increasing metabolic rate to an excess level that decays to 13% three hours after exercise, and 4% after 16 hours.[citation needed]Another study, specifically designed to test whether the effect existed for more than 16 hours, conducted tests for 48 hours after the conclusion of the exercise and found measurable effects existed up to the 38-hour post-exercise measurement.

We have a different and refreshing kind of dentist with us today. Her names Bernice Teplitsky Mosion. Â We will be talking about Holistic dentistryâ what it is and why you should consider it.
Dr. Bernice Teplitsky has worked in the dental field since she was hired as a 16-year-old dental assistant. After high school, she enrolled in Marquette University, where she graduated with a degree in Biomedical Science. She completed Marquette Universityâs dental school with a Certificate in Gerontology.
After being diagnosed with Mercury toxicity in 2011, Dr. Bernice learned that her exposure to mercury was coming from her patientâs fillings as well as her own. Stunned at the unknown and damaging effects oneâs oral health could have on overall health, Dr. Bernice has since dedicated her career to improving the lives of her patients and her staff by practicing a more natural, holistic form of dentistry. She is constantly evolving her practice as new research emerges, and concentrates her practice on biocompatible materials, removing harmful bacteria and toxins, education, and helping patients have healthier mouthes.
She practices general and holistic dentistry and is the owner of Wrigleyville Dental, in Chicago, IL. We have a super knowledgeable personal trainer with us today. His name is Missy Bunch. Â We will be talking about special ways to reduce pain.
Dancing since the age of three, I developed my deep fascination with the human body at a very young age. I am a certified personal trainer and movement coach who has instructed countless boot camp classes, semi-private group classes, and private personal training clients. Â After years of battling personal injuries, I was left feeling frustrated and hopeless; worried nothing else could be done to heal me. By fate, in 2010, I had a session with a Z-Health trainer and my knee pain was gone and never came back. I knew I wanted to teach this approach to the world. Â So over the next several years I completed many courses, intense testing and training, to become one of the few master trainers in the world. The importance of brain function and using the nervous system to rapidly âdebugâ movement patterns, decrease pain and increase performance has lead me teach and create lightning-fast improvements with people from all walks of life. My specialties include injury prevention, injury rehabilitation, joint mobility and decreasing pain, holistically. In the last several years my focus has shifted to traveling the country to teach the importance of movement to small and large companies, educating people on the human body as a whole integrated system.

We have a super knowledgeable personal trainer with us today. His name is Ross Oberlin. Â We will be talking about building youth athletes for the future.
Ross Oberlin owns and operates RC Training and Fitness in Oak Park, IL. Â He is a Functional Movement Specialist, Certified Functional Strength Coach, and Strong First Kettlebell Instructor. Â Ross found his calling early, and at 31, he already has a decade of experience under his belt helping people reach their full potential.
Before becoming a strength coach, Ross ran a Special Olympics program for several years. Â It was here that he learned how to be an adaptable coach and how to best communicate with his athletes. Â Backed with years of experience that started with training himself for wrestling and later mixed martial arts (mma), Ross found the perfect intersection his talents and passions in Strength & Conditioning.
RC Training & Fitness works with both athletes and adult clients. Â During the summer months, their athletes program takes center stage. Â In just a few short months, the gym must help a variety of athletes from different sports with different abilities. Â Itâs only with a structured plan and vision, that this goal is achieved.
Thereâs a lot of misinformation out there on youth training. Â Flashy programs designed to simulate what the pros do are tempting, but can have serious consequences. Â Ross is here to break down what an athlete or parent should be looking for in a Strength & Conditioning coach/facility.

We have a unique personal training with us today. Her name is Sarah carasona. Â We will be talking about how to empower oneself with strength training and overcoming an eating disorder.
Spending time as a kid chasing her older brothers around  their neighborhood gave her a healthy competitive nature and desire to be strong.  That disposition transferred into her training and career as a professional dancer.  She loves seeing what her body could do, and challenging it daily to move smarter and be stronger. However, she found that she was unsatisfied using her knowledge of the body to simply further her own success.  As she began training others and seeing the impact it could have, she decided that this was the path for her. Â
Teaching someone how to use their strength, increase their mobility, and make healthy choices is her passion. Â It is a great joy to see someone transform both their body and their mindset towards health and fitness. Â Her goal is to have you stand strong and be proud of your accomplishments!

We have a versatile and caring life coach with us today. Her name is Isabelle Libmann. Â We will be talking about how to establish habit based eating?
Isabelle Libmann â known to her clients as Izzy â came to strength and nutrition coaching in a non-traditional, roundabout way. A theater major at Northwestern University and then event planner and publicist after college, life was very much on-the-go with nutrition and fitness on the back burner.
It wasnât until she hired her own trainer that she recognized what a powerful experience it can be to get stronger and feel better. One major âAHA!â moment later, Izzy decided to become a coach herself so she could help people feel stronger, healthier and, most importantly, more empowered.
IzzyFit was born out of the desire to coach each client as an individual with programs that fit their own personal needs. She is happy to not only be coaching clients in person in Evanston, IL but is also thrilled to be offering nutrition coaching to people from anywhere in the world.

We have a passionate and fun personal trainer with us today. His name is Jake Kozens. Â We will be talking about how to train in multidimensional training styles.
I am a certified personal trainer and military veteran. I have been involved in sports and fitness since I was 6 years old. My goal is to share my knowledge with anyone that is interested in getting in the best shape of their life. I also want to continue to learn from others. Nobody has the scientific method when it comes to fitness. Things that work for one do not necessarily work for another. This is why I try to be an information sponge and absorb as much new information about training and health as I possibly can.

You guys are in for a treat today. Â That is because I have a special guest Dr. Andrew Hopkins. he was episode #30. We will be discussing what it means to live a healthy lifestyle.
Dr. Hopkins has a bachelors in Human Biology with a minor in biochemistry
He is the graduate of the National university of health sciences
His passion is nutrition and helping people live a healthy life.
Dr Hopkins â or âDoctor Andy,â as we all call him â is from Southern New Jersey. He attended Stockton College, and while pursuing his Bachelors in Human Biology with a minor in Biochemistry, he developed ulcerative colitis. While in chiropractic school at the National University of Health Sciences, he did the traditional treatments like prednisone and medication. However, after graduation in 2000, he lost all his hair and developed psoriatic cirrhiosis that abraded his hands and feet badly. His doctors kept telling him that it wasnât about nutrition, but he thought, âMaybe I should find out for myself.â Through workshops and self-directed research, he learned enough about nutrition to get his autoimmune conditions under control. That gave him a passion for health through nutrition, so he pursued it at the Natural Healing Institute of Naturopathy, graduating as a Clinical Nutritionist in 2004.

We have a super knowledgeable and experienced registered dietitian with us today. Her name is Claudia braun. We will be talking stress and emotional eating..
At ten, I began using food as my comfort and my best friend. I spent 15 years in the up and down yo-yo dieting spiral. My first diet was at 12, when I began restricting my food, and I noticed as I lost weight, people commented. My next diet was TOPS, a diet club my mom attended, but I wasnât successful with it. In high school, I was lured into Weight Watchers for the promise of yet another diet to relieve me of my habit. My ongoing preoccupation became my body, my weight, and finding the next diet. College sent me on a weight gain surge, freshman 15 plus 10. I felt a lot of shame being back at Weight Watchers, far from my âgoal weight.â My remaining college years continued to be off again/on again dieting, binge/restrict eating with exercise to compensate for the calories. My early 20âs were carbs, sugar, misery, over exercising, and over and under eating. The rise of aerobics gave way to an additional outlet with additional âgym workouts.â
At 26 years old, living in Chicagoâs Lakeview area, working in outside sales, one day I found myself driving to my parentsâ house to âcruise their cabinets.â While eating, a thought occurred to me, âThis isnât normal. I donât live here. Why am I doing this? I think I need help.â In the back of my mind, I knew food was âprotecting meâ and keeping me alone. No one really knew me; I lived a secret life. Those thoughts changed my life.

Our guest was born in Chicago Heights, Illinois, raised in Merrillville in Northwest Indiana and attended Ball State University, graduating in 2000. He then studied at the Alternative Practitioner Academy (APA) in Schaumburg, IL and became a Certified Hypnotherapist.
He first experienced hypnosis while in college to deal with an overload of stress. At age 21 my blood pressureâs high number was 178 and my doctor gave me a prescription for blood pressure medication. Determined not to take medication, he looked for other options. He began practicing yoga and saw a hypnotherapist in the Orland Park, IL area. After three sessions, his stress disappeared, his high blood pressure number was back down to 118-120 and has been there ever since. Life continues to have the potential for stress, however his connection between stress and his blood pressure has been disconnected since 1999.

We will be discussing optimal fitness through nutrition and education.

Thank you so much for listening to this podcast today. I have a special guest with me today. Her name is Jenny finkel. I know you will enjoy what she has to say about yoga and health and wellness. So, let me begin with a brief bio about Jenny.
She began doing yoga in 7th grade after reading an article about it in Seventeen magazine. She was an asthmatic, scoliotic teen who pretended to be sick to get out of playing kickball in Phys Ed class. Seventeen touted yogaâs benefits for breathing and posture and described it as a non-competitive pursuit. It sounded right up her alley, so she gave the postures in the magazine a try, and a new passion was formed.
