Episode 121: The Home Stretch
We are just a few shorts weeks away from the US Presidential Election. It's the home stretch...the final sprint...the finish line.
Regardless of your political views...you're ready for this to be over.
In Episode 121...Travis breaks down the highlights of the last month of his weekly inspirational videos from Patreon. These ideas are signs of the times - and relevant to each of us as we get closer to election day!
It's only 15 minutes...so hold your hair down...and let's go!
Welcome back to the YAP! It's been awhile. Remember when this was weekly, and then it was monthly, and then it became once in a blue moon?
I am sorry.
Well, the YAP is back - and now it will be monthly.
Each month, Travis will share some of his inspiring highlights from his A Moment of YES videos he is posting 3 times a week on Patreon.
Yes - Travis is on Patreon now - offering weekly videos, YES AND challenges, weekly Zoom calls, and coaching. Check him out!
But, if you can't be a patron right now - enjoy these monthly BEST OF podcasts - for FREE!
It's been nearly a year since my last podcast. I am not sure how you all were able to make it without me ;)
The pandemic didn't get me behind the mic because Zoom had me so busy in front of the computer. But with everything being magnified right now around racial injustice, and having spent the last few weeks listening, having thoughtful conversations, and just reflecting - I wanted to share my perspective as a white man in America.
This episode is called "My White Privilege."
Welcome to Season 4 of The Weekly Yes, And Podcast!
In Episode 118 Travis talks on the topic...Surrender or Suffer! He details his busy summer on the road and shares how dealing with the logistics and uncertainties of travel make for the perfect master course classroom for surrendering. He also shares his recent experience with Hurricane Dorian and how that too is a great teacher and lesson in surrendering and managing your thoughts, emotions, and reactions!

Father's Day is quickly approaching here in the United States - so what better time to think about the importance of fatherhood? In Episode 117 of The Weekly Yes, And Podcast, Travis brings back Perry Towle to talk about the modern dad.
Perry is the creator of Ungloo, and the purpose of Ungloo in Perry's words is to provide "simple tools, inspiration, videos and group support (online and in Boulder, CO) to propel hands-on fathers into a new world of mental, physical, spiritual, social, and emotional well being. We focus on fathers because we are at a time in history when dads are more hands-on with their children than ever and participating domestically more than ever before."
Interesting, right? So, let's dig into Episode 117 with Perry and talk about a more evolved expression of fatherhood!
This podcast is also in partnership with our amazing friends at Inspired to Give!
Click here to check out Ungloo, as well as the Daily Tracker that we reference numerous times in the podcast!
Okay, perhaps I need to change the name to the "Every 3 Months Yes, And Podcast!" I apologize, it has been awhile. But I am back - for now!
So where has Travis been? Listen to find out.
Besides hearing Travis' excuses for not publishing in the last 3 months, you'll hear the analogy of the Chinese bamboo plant and how it is relevant to your life.
Seriously, the success and growth you are striving for correlates to the life of the bamboo plant.
Come on, you know you are curious now!!??
So, enjoy Episode 116 of the YAP!
"You're on my team too!"
This came to me today while sitting behind a car with a "Trump/Pence" bumper sticker.
"You're on my team too!"
This came to me yesterday when the parents of the youth soccer team we were playing had to be removed from the field and it seemed the situation was escalating.
"You're on my team too!"
This is what I think of when I go into new environments and feel like an outsider, and I am worried about what they are going to think of me.
Listen to Episode 115 of The Weekly Yes, And Podcast - and find out how you are also on my team too!
I will not make any excuses. It has been a long time since the last podcast. Over two months to be exact. I am ashamed to call this "The Weekly Yes, And Podcast." It's more like "The Every Once In Awhile Podcast."
No excuses. And I do apologize.
It has been a busy two months (still no excuses) and I am grateful for everything that has gone on before, during, and after the holidays!
By the way...Happy New Year everyone!
So...Episode 114 gets you all caught up on all of the exciting things going on, especially our second annual Holiday Hope for the Homeless that was a huge success!
But the real point of Episode 114 is the idea that It Only Takes One. That's it. You. Me. The guy sitting next to me in Panera wearing a fedora. Bold move by the way.
If you look at the news and the problems we are facing today, it sure doesn't feel like one of us is big enough to do too much. And that is where we are wrong.
In fact, it only takes one person to cause a shift and inspire a total transformation. It happens all of the time, but it requires some serious courage to do so. But this is courage not exclusive to superheroes...it is in all of us.
Do you have it in you? (You do)
Listen to Episode 114 and let's get doing this together!
Now excuse me while I head off to the fedora store!

We started RAK Friday about 6 years ago, and it has grown every year since. We have schools, companies, teams, and groups of all kinds getting together this year in order to create RAK Teams.
The reason we started RAK Friday was because of how overpowering Black Friday has become. It's a menace to Thanksgiving, and represents the opposite of what we all really appreciate about the holidays, but still get sucked into it.
So, instead of spending the day in that consumption mindset, what if you spent the entire day looking for ways to bless other people - thus transforming Black Friday into RAK Friday.
Our goal this year is to have 2,018 Random Acts of Kindness performed and then shared on social media using the hashtag #RakFriday18. And this year, when you share your RAK, post your team name with a chance to win prizes!
Click here to watch this year's video.
Click here to visit the Rak Friday Facebook page!
Get out there and get your RAK on everyone!

Imagine being this close...to one of your biggest goals...and coming up just short, not once...but twice within a few months? Travis' guest on The Weekly Yes, And Podcast for this week knows what it feels like to succeed at the highest level...and the pain of just missing out.
Logan Panchot is a college sophomore and is already an NCAA National Champion as a member of the Stanford Cardinal Men's Soccer Team. On the eve of the NCAA Tournament Selection, Logan was gracious enough to jump on the phone with Travis to talk about the mindset, hard work, and qualities it requires to compete and live at a high level.
Travis got to know Logan while working at IMG Academy when Logan was training to be selected for the U17 National Soccer Team. As impressed as he was during that process, Travis was most impressed with how Logan responded to disappointment - and he is back on top thriving.
Whether you are a player, coach, or parent - this is a podcast you need to listen to as Logan shares his experiences as he continues to excel and live his dream.
Find out more about Logan and his brand Win Your Moment here!
This is Episode 111 of The Weekly Yes, And Podcast with Travis Thomas. Have you noticed how divided we are as a country right now? (That's a rhetorial question).
If you are cynical you might think this is the way it has always been, and it is the way it will always be. But, this doesn't have to be the case. Having differences is fine, actually it's great, but when we are not willing to embrace each others differences - and we are not willing to offer respect and dignity to someone who thinks differently than we do - you have what we are currently experiencing in this country.
In Episode 110 of The Weekly Yes, And Podcast - Travis shares his ideas and reminds all of us - there is really only one team! No matter how different you think we are, and even though we trick ourselves into thinking there are "those people, that state, that country, that political party, etc. " - what we need to remember is that there always has been and will always only be...ONE TEAM!
Give it a listen!
How brilliant is this?! Really! Combining the ideas of spirituality and sports - and you get SPORTUALITY!
From the moment I heard about the concept of "Sportuality" I knew I needed to interview the woman who created it. And that woman is Jeanne Hess.
Jeanne has been coaching volleyball for 30 years. Most of that time has been spent as the Head Women's Volleyball coach at Kalamazoo College in Michigan. Yes, another Michiganer on the podcast!
In 30 years on the sideline of coaching you learn a few (or a lot) of things! In this podcast, Episode 109 of The Weekly Yes, And Podcast - Jeanne drops some serious wisdom on your ears, which will surely resonate with your heart.
I dare you to listen and not be inspired (double dog dare you)!
Find our more about Jeanne and her Sportuality book!
If you were to call any youth sports organization and ask them about their core values, they would tell you how important qualities such as integrity, character, and sportsmanship are in their program. They would tell you how they are teaching kids life skills that will help them the rest of their lives.
But, if you asked them "how" they do it, their answers might get a little more vague. You might hear how their coaches have "x" years of experience, and that the game itself is such a great teacher of character. And it's true, but what you don't always hear or see if an actual process or system in place that makes teaching and developing character a priority.
As a performance coach I see it all of the time. When you just rely on an individual coach to teach these skills based on their own beliefs and style, what you get as a parent or player is a crap shoot of coaching quality and consistency. You get a player who has an amazing experience with one coach, and then the next season in the same Club they have a totally different experience with a different coach. I am not talking about coaching styles, but an actual difference in philosophy and values from coach to coach. It's one of the big problems in our youth coaching programs.
So, it was refreshing when I came upon Brett Miller. Brett has been a youth soccer coach for about 5 years. He hasn't won a National Championship or World Cup (yet), but I guarantee Brett is changing lives with the impact he is having on his players, parents, and coaches, on his team and the other teams as well.
In Episode 108 of The Weekly Yes, And Podcast - Brett shares simple and applicable ways to make teaching character and life skills a relevant and natural part of coaching.
I was really blown away from my time with Brett, and I think you wil too!

You never know how you are going to fall into a career or area of expertise? Lori Saitz never saw herself helping people with the very thing that made her so uncomfortable - networking. In Episode 104 of The Weekly Yes, And Podcast - Travis urges everyone to stop competing!
No, not stop trying, or striving, or pushing yourself beyond your limits. Instead, stop comparing yourself to everyone else. Stop trying to make yourself look better by making or hoping someone else looks worse. Stop turning life into a competition, when most of life is a collaboration.
Travis shares examples from his recent work with a major football program, as well as a Major League Baseball team - and helping their coaches shift from a compeititon to collaboration mindset.

What does it mean to be "Lit Within?" Last month we tackled the spiritual aspect of what it means to be "woke," and in May we focus our attention on "lit." If being woke is all about raising our consciousness, being "lit" is what it means when we take action.
In Episode 103 of The Weekly Yes, And Podcast - Travis looks at the idea of being "lit within." This podcast is also in partnership with Inspired to Give - where you can explore how others are finding inspiration that leads to action. With the help of some friends - Travis explores what it means to be "lit within" - and poses some questions to help each of us blow on the embers of our own flames.

How important is humor in the workplace? Does it lead to greater bottom-line success? Well...guess you need to listen to find out!
In Episode 101 Travis does a solocast in conjunction with our friends at Inspired To Give. Spring is here! Renewal, rebirth, and reawakening. Not only is there a physical transformation taking place as nature comes alive - we have seen how there is a societal, environmental, and spiritual awakening happening as well!
This awakening is about raising our individual and collective consciousness. It's about being Woke!
Yup, I realize as I use that term I have officially made it uncool. It's just lost any hipness it had. But, the spirit of what woke stands for is all about elevating consciousness in a way that makes us more aware, motivated, and intentional about the choices we make.
You want to get woke? Listen to the podcast!
This is Episode 100!!! A monumental episode for a production team of one. I started this podcast as a way for me to share my views and ideas of what it means to live with a "yes, and" mindset. And, I wanted to share the stories and inspiration of others living a life of purpose and passion, who demonstrate a "yes, and" mindset when it comes to dealing with adversity and struggle.
For Episode 100, I went home. I was born and raised in Flint, MI - though I haven't lived there in over 20 years. But, I travel to Flint often to do work and see family. For this episode, I returned hope to speak at the GearUp2Lead Conference for the 3rd straight year, as well as doing three other talks during the week. Episode 87 of The Weekly Yes, And Podcast is a special conversation with 17 year-old Jaz Martus from Flint, Michigan. Jaz is an exceptional young man. While most high school seniors spend their time worrying about college and prom dates (not that Jaz doesn't), he has taken on projects that get him outside of his comfort zone in order to understand his fellow man better.
A practicing Catholic, Jaz decided to spend his summer visiting different faith services in order to experience the beliefs behind their religions. To date Jaz has attended over 20 services. As a result of this work he recently created a chapter for the Euphrates Institute in his high school bringing students together to understand and appreciate the diversity in the Middle East, as well as creating dialogue for how we deal with differences of all kind.

"Seeing is believing!"
"Believing is seeing!"
Which is it? Well, if you are a spritual person you probably grew up being taught that faith was not about "seeing" the evidence, but rather "believing" first. If you are more on the rational and human side you may have been taught not to "believe" something until you have actually "seen" proof first.
So, which side do you fall?
In Episode 72 of The Weekly YAP - Travis hosts another solocast where he shares his inspiration on this age old question. Perhaps, it might just be a combination of both!
Life doesn't always make sense, and it definitely doesn't always go according to plan. Heidi Siefkas, on the surface, had an amazing life. A great job that took her all over the world. A great house and lifestyle. And a great husband with an impressive job. Despite all of this success, Heidi didn't feel a great sense of peace and contentment.
In an instant it all changed. As her world crumbled around her she had a choice to make - How did she want to live the rest of her life? In Episode 71 of The Weekly Yes, And Podcast - Travis and Heidi explore this question, and how her answer has led to a life of passion, adventure, and inspiration.
Want to know how?
I guess you need to listen!
In Episode 70 of The Weekly YAP - Travis talks to himself. It's not the first time. It won't be the last time. But when is the last time Travis turned on the mic and waxed poetic by himself? Yeah, it's been awhile.
In this episode Travis has some stories to share from his recent trip back and forth to California. He attended the inspiring Hero's Training conference hosted by Brian Johnson of Optimizer. There is plenty of wisdom and inspiration to share from the event, as well as two special moments Travis experienced during two of his flights.
Travis also announces an upcoming new program called "Get UNSTUCK in 10 Days!" The pilot program starts May 15th, and you can still get in for just $20 for the whole program.
What role does love play in sports? Better yet, how important is it for players to know that their parents love them? If there is no crying in baseball, can there be love letters in football? The answer is YES!
In Episode 69 of The Weekly YAP - Travis talks with high school football coach Masaki Matsumoto about leadership, culture...and love! Masaki was featured a few years ago on ESPN's sports journalism show E:60. The story tells about Masaki coaching at an inner city high school in Los Angeles and noticing the number of kids that came from tough backgrounds or single-parent homes. Over the summer, unknown to all of his players, Masaki asked all of the parents to write a letter to their son telling them how much they love him. Masaki then surprised all of the players one day at practice with the letters, and it had a profound impact on the team. Among other things - it led to their most successful season ever!

I've always been annoyed with salesman. We all have an image we think of when we think of sales, and seldom is it a positive one. There is this idea and fear that we are being manipulated into something we don't need, by someone who doesn't really care about us. So, when you meet someone who addresses sales from an honest and authentic standpoint it is refreshing.
In Episode 68 of The Weekly YAP - Travis has a sit down with long-time sales guru Bernie Cronin. Bernie has been in sales for decades. He is the author of two books - and has been speaking on the topic for years. But it wasn't that long ago that Bernie saw the value of the principles of acting when it comes to sales, but not in a slimy way. Since then, he has been partnering with actors and performers, and even learning some skills himself to be able to connect, understand, and meet the needs of customers even better.
Despite recording this interview outside with lots of surrounding noise - the charm of Bernie shines through. Enjoy!

In Episode 67 of The Weekly YAP - Travis sits down with the President and CEO of WD-40, Garry Ridge. Garry has been leading the company with the little blue can for years, and as you will hear, they are more than just lubricating squeaky doors.
Garry is an inspiration in leadership - and definitely worth the listen.

Living in Florida, our kids are no strangers to Disney World. It's safe to say that over all of these years we have taken the convenience for granted. But imagine having children and realizing that you cannot take them to Disney. Not due to cost, but because of your child having special needs that Disney cannot accomodate.
What an awful feeling.
In Episode 66 of The Weekly YAP - Travis sits down with one woman who was also heartbroken when a good friend of hers dealt with this scenario. Instead of just offering sympathy, she offered an idea. "We need to build a park here in St. Louis." Knowing that there is only one special needs amusement park in the world, Jamie Vann decided to build her own. And that is what she is doing!
The park is not built yet, but the project has begun.
