On Thursday we sent out a letter from Ashley Mathews to our members announcing her decision to accept a position leading a church in Fayetteville, AR. We know this news will be shocking for some of our community and sad for all of us. We take heart in the fact that while she won't be at Trinity, she will remain a co-laborer in the Kingdom and as she says in the letter, "Jesus doesn’t hoard his resources."
At church, she and Kris will spent some timing sharing more about her journey and what lies ahead.

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent. It’s the day the Church will be invited to enter into the “wilderness” for forty days as a time of preparation for the coming of Easter. Lent is a call to acknowledge our own wandering, and to begin to resist the appetites and habits that keep us from making progress toward the freedom we want. Listen as we discuss how to engage the season well.

This Sunday, the Church calendar begins anew with the first Sunday in Advent. During the season, we are called by the Church to remember that Christ came into the world at his birth, and that we are to anticipate that he will come again at his return. In both instances, Jesus comes as a light shining into a world that has been darkened by sin and death. Advent is, therefore, a word of hope that Jesus has come and is always coming into the darkness to make a way forward.

Lectio Divina simply means divine reading. It is an ancient practice whereby we carve out intentional space to sit with scripture in a posture of reflection and contemplation. We often read the bible in order to understand the text or the context in which it is written. And while studying scripture is an important discipline, Lectio encourages us to sit with a passage reflectively asking the Holy Spirit to show us what He has for us in a particular passage.
During the Lenten season we will be posting lectio episodes each week using one of the Sunday lectionary readings as our passage for reflection. These episodes are meant to guide and train us in the practice of lectio.
