This week we bring you a replay of one of our favorite recent guests, Mel Urie, who conquered the grueling Uberman triathlon.

The 556 mile course goes from the Mists of Avalon to the Snows of Mount Whitney. Starting on Catalina Island, participants swim 21 miles in the open Pacific Ocean to the shores of Palos Verdes. The 400 mile bike route leaves the city of Angels and climbs 20,000 vertical feet before descending to Badwater basin, at 200 feet below sea level, the lowest point in North America. From Badwater, athletes run 135 miles through Death Valley before ascending 13,000 feet to the trailhead @ Mt Whitney, the highest peak in the Continental United States.”

You are going to LOVE this episode, so sit back and enjoy.

While Lindsay is on a much-deserved vacation, Age Groupies is replaying the original episode where Lindsay connected with Mike. Prior to that the show was called "The Age Groupie" and was hosted by Lindsay alone. This interview goes into Mike's story and his why, which eventually led to Lindsay asking Mike to cohost the show and renaming it "Age Groupies." If you haven't heard it, you won't want to miss this episode.

Today Mike leads us in a meditation to connect to happiness. Not just happy thoughts, but the actual feeling of happiness and joy that we experience. This is important because of how easy it is for negative or unpleasant experiences to "stick" and positive or pleasant experiences to "slide off" afterwards. This is an exercise we can all do to connect to the good things happening around us and build resilience. This meditation was inspired by the book "Hardwiring Happiness" by Dr. Rick Hanson. Pick up a coptopday for yourself to get more in depth on how to hardwire happiness to your brain.

Mike and Lindsay discuss how we can take care of our mental health and fitness together. Many of us in the endurance scene carry mental health challenges along with us including trauma, grief, depression, anxiety, and more. While triathlon and distance running and cycling have their place in healing and treatment, they are not the "end-all-be-all." If you have concerns about your mental health or if you are having thoughts of suicide, please call the crisis hotline and talk to someone confidentially and free. You can call the Suicide Prevention Lifeline by dialing 1-800-273-8255. Press 1 if you are a Veteran.

In this episode, Lindsay and Mike have an open and honest conversation about the death of George Floyd, race, white privilege, what it's like to be black in America, and how we can improve things. Most weeks we bring humor to the situation and make it a point not to take ourselves too seriously, but Lindsay and Mike thought the conversation was needed to spread a message of unity and hope.

Lindsay talks with returning guest Peggy Neidig and talk about how to crush it at 50 years old. Triathlon and endurance sports are beautiful in that we can continue training and racing well past those of our friends playing contact sports. Peggy talks about what it is like to race at 50 and the adjustments she has made throughout her career in the sport. She is proud to race with Team Coeur and has been a Team Coeur Ambassador since 2018.

Today’s guest is Melissa Urie aka Ranga Mel. Mel was a guest for episode 46 back in October where she told us about racing the Epic 5. Today we get to hear about how Mel was the first woman in history to finish Uberman. The Uberman website describes it as “ the world's most challenging Ultra Triathlon.
