We need power for living and not just in difficult times.  Life is always full of challenges that would try to hold us back from God’s best.  The good news is that Jesus has promised us all we need to make it through what we are facing.  As Jesus gave some of His final instructions to His disciple He spoke a lot about the Holy Spirit (John 14-16).  He also promised them (and us) that the Holy Spirit would abide within us.  Unfortunately, the Holy Spirit is kind of the forgotten person of the Holy Trinity.  Some refer to the Holy Spirit as it, like some impersonal force, but He is a person.  And Jesus used a Greek word paracletos to describe Him.  That word is complex and can be translated helper, advocate, counselor, and comforter.  It literally means “called alongside” and by implication one called alongside to help.  God the Holy Spirit is alongside us throughout our lives.  In this series we are going to look at how the Holy Spirit within us empowers us with comfort, courage, direction, transformation, and the supernatural life.

Courageous Living, Romans 8:11, 15-16, Fear can easily dominate us like that bully at school who was so imposing and intimidating.  What if we could know that we have someone who is powerful enough to “have our back” and turn the tables on fear?  Well, we do and the power He brings into our lives is referred to resurrection power.

Pastor Karen Tyler presents a message on Prayer and how that plays into being a friend of God.

Jesus in John 15:15 says we are His friends, but how can we be friends with God? Well, it is what we are, but the blessing of being a friend does not happen overnight, even with our earthly friends. Our friendships developed over time as we got to know each other better. The same is true with Jesus. While there are no surefire formulas that will help us in three easy steps or whatever, there are some things we can do over time that will help us know Him better. And it is in knowing Him better that our relationship develops into a close friendship. And how cool is that? For the next four weeks we are going to look at what we can do to know Him better and develop a closer friendship with Jesus.

There are many reasons for the troubles you and I experience in life.  Most of them come from making poor decision, either from lack of adequate information, misinformation, stubbornness, or just plain selfishness.  Some troubles come in the form of natural disasters.  Jesus tells us that the rain falls on the just as well as the unjust.  Life is not only full of joy; it is also full of trouble.  That is just life.  The one constant in all our troubles is the undergirding and sustaining grace of God.  It is in troubles that we hear God say to us that He is with us.  We are not alone.  So when we go through the flood, or the fire, we can rest and know that He is with us.  But there are some troubles that come from the enemy of our souls.  These are directed attacks against our person.  These attacks have one purpose and one purpose only, that is, to destroy our souls.  Are we to sit back and passively take them?  Absolutely not!  It is in this area that we are called to take the offensive.  God has provided all that we need to keep from becoming victims.  Being Wise is a three-week series from Ephesians 6 on spiritual warfare.  Jesus tells us to be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.  We can stand and overcome the enemy of our souls, but we need to be wise.  Series key idea: We must be wise to overcome.

2020: fresh starts, new beginnings, and second chances

What if we could begin 2020 with a clearer vision of God’s grace, that is, His accepting love in the midst of our messy lives? In this series we will discover that God’s grace offers us a chance to change, a chance to thrive, a chance to be challenged, a chance to start over, and a chance to forgive.  He is the God of fresh starts, new beginnings, and second chances.
