With the 2018 Australian snow season officially coming to a close, it seems only fitting to reflect back on what was a truly remarkable season. We wrap things up a powder-filled edit which was filmed during one of the later storms that graced the Australian Alps this season. With the deep snow base and fresh snow, the boys got off the beaten track at Perisher and found some of the best terrain Australia has to offer.

"Every year it's much the same. We come, we ride, we laugh, we cry, we break, we recover, we film, and we make videos. Combine that with the moments in between — our chosen lifestyle that doesn't necessarily lend to the protocols of corporations and establishments — and it's enough to keep us energised year after year.
That's not to say there isn't hierarchy and politics within it all; which is why I enjoy creating this series so much. The only competition is individual with riders often watching their trick on the t-bar to see if it's stomped properly. The crew gets stoked for each other when they get the trick because it means a better collective video. They often push each other — in what seems to be the healthy version of competition — to try something new. This is where I find the most fun in snowboarding.

The 2nd stop of the 2017 DC Hit & Run went down in Meribel, France. The inconsistent and troubling weather didn’t stop the field of over 50+ riders from ripping it up all day. Taking place at France’s legendary DC Area 43, the course challenged riders to ride as fast as they can through banked turns, and throw down their best tricks on the 3 judged sections (pipe, rails, and jump). At the end of the day it was Mons Roisland who took home the cash for Men's Pro and best trick with a switch back 1260, Sebbe De Buck coming in second, and Jordan Morse with 3rd. The mysterious “LeBlanc” lead the way in Men’s Open, and Nikelaeva Xenia won for the Women’s Open. Next stop Whistler!

14-year-old snowboarder Sunny Steele has a weakness for Maltesers and Nutella, nevertheless, his supportive parents have been nurturing his strengths in boardsports. Sunny loves surfing and skateboarding, however, snowboarding is his true passion. This past season Sunny and his dad travelled to the United States to stack footage in the streets and backcountry, and to train with Mikey Williams Snow. They started off filming in Lake Tahoe and concluded the trip training and competing in Colorado.
Sunny has been clocking up greats results in Australia and abroad, including 1st overall at the New Zealand Nationals and Thredbo Snow Series. Sunny is a well-rounded rider beyond his years, stepping outside of slopestyle and taking his skills into the streets and backcountry. He has dreams of being a professional snowboarder and competing at the X Games and Olympic Games. This season Sunny has been offered a scholarship with Ski and Snowboard Australia.

Ariane Burri (SUI) and Takeru Otsuka (JPN) are the new Slopestyle World Rookie Champions after two incredible runs and tight “fights” with the other rookies in the finals. Even though all riders are under 18 years of age, the level was incredible and technical tricks were performed during both the quals and the finals.

Recent snowfall in Vallnord-Arcalís, Andorra and bluebird skies made for superb riding conditions and amazing performances to kick-off the European leg of the 2018 tour.

What a difference a week can make! After a fun opening weekend with limited cover, the snow arrived in buckets. Front Valley was transformed into a completely new landscape with a fresh cover and new features including a 30-foot jump. It's been non-stop action since the chairlifts started spinning and this edit shows a glimpse of what's been going down at Perisher.

Misaki Kakubari (JPN) excelled in her halfpipe run, with technical tricks and good amplitude, winning the trophy as 2018 Halfpipe World Rookie Girl Champion, thanks to an amazing run with a frontside 720 melon, cab 360, frontside 540 melon, backside 540 mute and to finish it up a frontside 360 indy. The podium was completed by Iina Puhakka (FIN) and Makayla Kellogg (USA).
In the grom girls category, Mitsuki Ono (JPN) gained the best score of the day in her category with an amazing run: cab 720 stalefish, frontside 540 tail, backside 540 stalefish and a stylish frontside air indy. She was followed by Tessa Maud (USA) and Elena Schütz (SUI).

Austrian snowboard legend, Gigi Rüf (AUT-1st Place) earned his first FWT win thanks to a textbook run, which began with him smoothly slashing his way through the big mountain spine features at the top of the venue followed by a stylish 360, true to form for the backcountry freestyle specialist. Joining him on the podium was wildcard, Elias Elhardt (GER-2nd Place) whose trademark playful and flowy style was on full display and fellow Austrian, Thomas Feurstein (AUT-3rd Place) who earned himself a second podium this week after stomping a solid technical run with multiple 360s.

It was a day of firsts for the rookie, Mickael Bimboes (FRA-1st Place) who claimed his first career FWT win and podium thanks to hard-charging big mountain confidence, perfectly stomped airs and a huge must-stick gap jump over the lower couloir, which has never been seen before in a competition on the “Wildseeloder” venue. Kristofer Turdell (SWE-2nd Place) stood on the podium for the second time this week and clinched the 2018 FWT Ski Men championship after stomping a nearly perfect technical run with tons of airtime. The former champion, George Rodney (USA-3rd) was back in form perfectly stomping one of the biggest airs of the day, which landed him back in the winner’s circle.

Baldur Vilhelmsson (ISL) won Rookie's division bringing Iceland to victory for the second year in a row. finishing ahead Nick Punter (SUI) and Noah Vicktor (GER). Grom Boys saw William Mathisen (SWE) takew podium with Alessandro Lotorto (SUI) second and Lukas Frischhut (AUT) rounded out the podium as third. Annika Morgan (GER) landed on the Rookie top spot in front of Iina Puhakka (FIN) and Evelina Taka (FIN) Grom Girls showed their best: Mia Brookes (GBR) took the first place ahead Elena Schutz (SUI) and Evy Poppe (BEL).

Following a day of spectacular season-opening riding yesterday, organizers and athletes successfully restaged the Hakuba, Japan event that was postponed due to difficult snow and weather conditions.
Ivan “Mad” Malakhov (RUS-1st Place) finally got the win that he has long been searching for as he launched one of the biggest airs of the day with an impeccable landing followed by clean, fast skiing. Yann Rausis (SUI-2nd Place) was able to snag second place with a perfect backflip and incredibly fast and smooth skiing throughout the venue. While he skied a similar line to Rausis with an impressive backflip, Kristofer Turdell (SWE-3rd Place) was unable to keep his riding tight enough to place higher.

Jonathan Penfield (USA-1st Place) earned a well-deserved top spot on the podium with a clean line driving through the top of the venue with stylish and stuck grabs. Fellow countryman Davey Baird (USA–2nd Place) stacked another podium win on top of his first place finish yesterday with a similar line to Penfield, including a big shifty air at the bottom. Thomas Feurstein (AUT–3rd Place) rounded out the category with strong and consistent riding in good snow.

It’s a wrap: winners in seven categories were crowned at the Audi Nines presented by Falken in Sölden, Austria. After a week of film and photo sessions, the Public Contest Day was seriously epic. The male and female skiers and snowboarders, as well as the Ski- and Snowboard Crossers showed thrilling performances on the new SlopeX course as well as Big Air and Quarterpipe. With the exciting set-up and perfect weather conditions drawing more than 3,000 spectators to Tiefenbach Glacier, the riders gave it their all and showed everyone they were eager to progress their sports.

The second stage of the Freeride World Tour was staged at a new location, champagne powder paradise Kicking Horse near Golden, British Columbia (CAN). Arianna Tricomi (ITA-1st Place) keeps turning up the heat with a series of clean airs linked by the solid technique she is known for in The Women's Ski and representing Japan for the restaged Hakuba event, Wakana Hama (JPN-1st Place) was able to translate her boardercross background into a technical line selection, putting her on top in the Women's Snowboarding.

Since we´ve heard that Macedonia has pretty good snow we tried to search the internet to get some info but there wasn´t a lot. The only usable thing we found out that there is a guy called Tomislav Tiska who runs a Catboarding Company called „Eskimo Freeride“ in the Sàr Mountains. When Tomislav gave us the OK for a good weather period we straight went on a road trip starting from Austria, through the Balkans. When made it to Macedonia we couldn´t believe our eyes how big and snow packed these mountains were. YES - we had a pretty good time - with some pretty deep pow in Macedonia! Australia’s freshest elite snowsports freeride event took place in the steep ‘double-black diamond’ rated terrain off Mt Buller’s summit with an enthusiastic crowd of onlookers taking up viewing points in resort and an international audience tuning in for the live webcast. An international panel of judges reviewed all the runs and settled on Coen Bennie-Faull and Nate Johnstone as the overall winners for ski and snowboard respectively. Bennie-Faull and Johnstone were unanimous choices by the entire judging panel and the athletes’ own vote for their courageous line choices and superb execution on the steep course.

We are throwing down at the One Hit Wonder Down Under 2016 free skiing event. With 20 of the worlds best free skiers in Australia it was definitely going to be a fierce competition on the first stop on the AFP world tour. It was was 17 year old American Alex Hall that took the win nailing a world first switch triple cork 1800. Norwegian Birk Rudd came in second with Swiss Fabian Bösch finishing off the podium. The Suzuki Nine Knights came to an incredible end with the Perfect Hip Contest Day 2016 in Watles, South Tyrol, Italy. The world’s best skiers and snowboarders threw down jump after jump, competing for the highest air and the most technical tricks, establishing new world records along the way. Sebbe De Buck (BEL) came out on top of the snowboarders, while the local superstar Christof Schenk took the victory out of the skiers.

Swiss snowboarder Christian "Hitsch" Haller, usually known for his skills in the half-pipe, established a new world record for the highest snowboard air on a hip jump, reaching a full 11.3m over the coping. The record jump took place during the Suzuki Nine Knights "Perfect Hip" public contest on 2nd of June 2016 in Watles, South Tyrol in Italy.
