The world's greatest long-course triathletes took to the waves and lava fields of Hawaii a couple of weeks ago for this year's Ironman World Champs, and records fell left, right and centre. The Norwegian machine Gustav Iden smashed the course record to take the men's title, and Chelsea Sodaro became the first American female winner in over 25 years by destroying a super strong field to take the women's crown. Loads of sub-plots to explore as well, so come on in as we work our way through the biggest performances from Kona weekend, and take a quick history lesson in why Hawaii is so central to the sport of triathlon as a whole...

Today we're spending time in the company of the inspirational and fun-loving Lotte Miller. One of the faces of the Tokyo Olympics after she waited at the finish line to console her friend and fellow triathlete Claire Michel and tell her she was a f***ing fighter in the driving rain, Lotte is an amazing ambassador for the sport. She's the first (and only) Norwegian female triathlete to compete at an Olympic Games, and she talks during our chat about life behind the scenes with the Norwegian boys, her love for the see-through tri-suits from Tokyo, why Strava is the place to go to see pro triathletes misbehaving, and lots, lots more!
You can find her on Instagram @l8miller. She's a legend and she deserves your appreciation. And while you're at it, you can find me on Insta @trimeariver_pod or on Twitter @trimeariver. Or if you prefer your correspondence to be slightly more formal, fire me an email at trimeariver@gmail.com. It's always great to hear from you, so don't be a stranger. Look forward to seeing you all again very soon!

It's a new year, and we're off to Canada for this episode! Stefan Daniel is a phenomenal talent. Despite growing up with a right arm significantly shorter than his left arm, Stefan hasn't let that stop him from becoming a 4-time world champion and two-time Paralympic medallist. And still he wants more. He tells us about how his brother inspired him never to be defined by his disability, how he wants to compete more and more in able-bodied races over the coming years, and why the competition is stronger in his paratriathlon category that it's ever been before.
To get in touch (and it's always great to hear from you!), please email trimeariver@gmail.com, find us on Twitter @trimeariver or on Instagram @trimeariver_pod. Happy listening everyone, and we'll all catch up soon!
Since first trying out the sport of triathlon while working on the staff at Disney World to being a voice of inspiration for thousands of followers online, Amanda Kenny has come a long way in just a few years. She joins us on today's episode and talks about starting out as a school gymnast, running the Boston Marathon with the brilliant Chris Nikic, cycling through a Mexican flood, her multicoloured custom bike, the power of FOMO, swimming with alligators, why she won't be rushing into entering another full-distance ironman, and how friends can often make you do things you never imagined were possible.
Follow Amanda on Instagram @amandakenny87, and let her inspire you too. As ever, stay in touch with the show @trimeariver on Twitter, @trimeariver_pod on Insta or via email at trimeariver@gmail.com. Look forward to catching up again soon, have a great Christmas!
It's been two long months, but your favourite triathlon podcast is back! Episode 21 is here and we're diving in at the deep end and dissecting September's Super League Triathlon Series. The formats have been exciting, the coverage has been excellent, it's given the sport a new injection of cash and exposure, but one question remains...is Super League Triathlon transforming the sport, or is it taking over? Loads of other news too, including a run-down of the success stories from the Tokyo Paralympics. Find us on Twitter @trimeariver, on Instagram @trimeariver_pod or via email at trimeariver@gmail.com. It's good to be back :)

Tokyo 2020 (or 2021 if, like me, you still can't understand why that was never changed) has been and gone, and it's about time we looked back at the sublime and the ridiculous. On this episode, we'll be going through what went down at the Odaiba Marine Park in the men's, women's and mixed relay events. Highlights included nearly naked Norwegians and life-threatening camera boats, and let's not forget about all the incredible, once-in-a-lifetime racing from some of the biggest names in the sport.
As always, please get in touch on Twitter @trimeariver or on Instagram @trimeariver_pod. Or snail mail at trimeariver@gmail.com. I'll respond to any of the above. Hope you're keeping the best, and we'll chat again soon!

With triathlon at the Tokyo Olympics kicking off with the men's event tonight, this (shorter than normal) episode will give you a quick rundown of the favourites for medals, the outsiders and the potential surprise packages. After a breathless weekend of racing at the World Triathlon Championship Series in Leeds, we spend some time in today's episode looking back at the highlights of an absolutely unforgettable event. It was a weekend that had it all. Sprint finishes. Dunking. Disqualifications. Brutal hills. Raucous fans. Drama. Controversy. Speed. Strength. Finesse. Careers ending, and others just beginning. We'll look back at the best bits from the amazing paratriathlon series on Saturday, as well as the hugely anticipated women's and men's elite races on the Sunday. But where to begin...come join in, as we dissect one of the most action-packed tri events in recent memory.
As ever, please feel free to get in touch via email at trimeariver@gmail.com, or hit me up on either Twitter @trimeariver or Instagram @trimeariver_pod. Less than 50 days until Tokyo Olympic triathlon racing begins, the temperature is rising!

We're off to northern Italy this week as I am joined by the most successful male Italian triathlete of all time and two-time Olympian, Alessandro Fabian. During our time together he chats about his love of psychology, his wife publishing a book about living with him, how his motivation and focus has adapted as he's grown older, his passion for the natural world, how Japanese anime helped him learn English, his hopes for the Tokyo Olympics, and why nobody outside Italy knows how to make a proper pizza!

I'm joined by one of the strongest triathletes on the planet today. Jetze Plat is a Paralympic gold medallist, 5-time world champion and current holder of the handbike one-hour record. He took the Super League Arena Games in London by storm last month with his jaw-dropping power output on the handbike, and he's looking to win golds in THREE different events at the Tokyo Paralympic Games this summer. Come on in and find out more! And as always, please feel free to get in touch at trimeariver@gmail.com or on Twitter @trimeariver. Speak to you soon!
Super League Triathlon returned last weekend in London with a day of breathless racing involving some of the biggest names in the sport. But was it all it could have been? On this episode we'll look back at the good, the bad and the ugly, including Beth Potter's surprise win, George Benson's frightening max heart rate, Vasco Vilaca's fancy dress Zwift avatar and the hugely disappointing lack of live coverage for the paratriathletes taking part. Lots to get our teeth into... As ever, fire me your chat on Twitter @trimeriver or via email at trimeariver@gmail.com. Arrivederci!

After losing her left leg in a roadside bomb in Iraq, becoming a Paralympic medallist would have been the furthest thing from Melissa Stockwell's mind. But through her dedication, resolve and natural talent she did just that, and claimed bronze on the Copacabana seafront at Rio 2016. She joins me today to tell her story, and what a story it is. She speaks about that day in Baghdad that changed her life, the unique challenges she faces as an amputee triathlete, and how she now aims to help other people with disabilities get into the sport of triathlon. For more on her charity, Dare2Tri, check out their website at https://dare2tri.org/. And if you'd like to give me a shout, please do at trimeariver@gmail.com or on Twitter @trimeariver. Until next time!
It's a new year here on Tri Me a River and we're back with a bang, as I'm joined by Team GB Paralympian George Peasgood. He's gearing up for his second Games after a superb 7th place finish in Rio, and it wouldn't be a shock if he went all the way this summer and came home with gold. He's a two-time British national champion, and above all else he's a real gent who just loves the sport of triathlon. We take in everything from hot tubs and I'm a Celebrity to leg lengthening procedures and camera bikes. Had great fun recording it...also for the Zach Miller doc that I mention during the episode, treat yourself by heading on over to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvJMlwNUAsI&t=1619s. As ever fire any chat to me at trimeariver@gmail.com. See you all soon!
This year has been bizarre. I can't argue with you about that. However there has still (thankfully) been some incredible tri action and what better way to bring this year to a close than by celebrating the biggest and best achievements of the past 12 months in the sport? Who will be top of the pile in our Top 10 Triathletes of 2020 list? And for anyone keen to donate to my 24-hour run for Age NI, please just head to this link (https://www.ageni.org/fundraisers/run-around-the-clock). You're all heroes, and I wish you a really happy, healthy and exciting new year. See you in 2021!
