Pr. Kevin preached about 1 Peter 4:7-11 & the One who gave His life for you.

The things we do now matter for eternity…

…Your thoughts matter for eternity

…Your love matters for eternity

…Your service matters for eternity

…Your words matters for eternity

How you live, what you do matters for eternity

✨ What Jesus did defined ALL of eternity!

Because it is…

  • Jesus who is alert & praying for us

  • Jesus whose love covers a multitude of sins

  • Jesus who gave Himself to serve you

  • Jesus who is the very Word of God

✨ I don't know where you are today, but today is still a day where you can say yes to Jesus!

We would love to pray with you today!

Pr. Nick preached about having faith to believe when the stakes are high as we looked at the story of Moses from Exodus and Hebrews 11:23-27.

✨ It's easy to believe in something when there is not a lot at stake

God has a plan for each one of us. God doesn't do anything without purpose.

✨ He doesn't waste time. He doesn't waste a word. He doesn't waste a miracle. He does everything perfect - He can't do it another way. He doesn't make mistakes, there is no random.

A lot of our struggle with personal identity comes from a misinformed view of God and His word.

✨ If what we are in what we look like or have (appearance, status, abilities, etc.) is our identity then we are truly misunderstanding what the Bible has to say - which is that we were born in the image of God. Created by Him.

God is going to use the context for which you were born into for His glory. He is already doing it. He is going to use your story for His story.

✨ Moses saw that he was being held in the hands of a God He could not see and yet a power that was greater than what he could…

…That God's plan could be trusted even when the stakes were so high and his life was on the line.

Moses led the captives out of slavery in Egypt …

…Just as Jesus leads us out of our eternal and spiritual bondage in order that we would have life in His name.

We don’t know what is ahead but we place by faith what is ahead in the hands of the only One who knows.

The God of Moses is the same God we worship today!

✨ What God was doing in Moses He can do in you. Moses was just an ordinary guy sent into extraordinary circumstances in life.

We would love to pray with you today!

When's the last time someone promised you something & didn't follow through on what they promised? And because of that you had to take matters into your own hands? They are no going to come through for me, so I'm going to do have to do it myself.

I think we are conditioned to have low expectation of what others promise because we let each other down or we don't always follow through on what we say.

I wonder how many time we have gotten angry at God for something we created ourselves, because we could not trust upon the promise of the Lord?

✨ Faith is the substance of things hoped for & the evidence of things not seen.

Reminder: Saving faith in Jesus is God's gift - it's His work in us! We cannot generate faith in God withing our hearts anymore then we can see the future.

✨ God calls us to obedience & very rarely tells us what's next because the point of it all is that we trust in relationship with Him…His will & plan…Because His will is the plan - it's for His glory!

So often we get fixated on what we think should happen that we fail to see what He was doing all along!

✨ God is good & everyday He is showing us His goodness in the things He is leading us through!

Are there matters in your own live you're taking into your own hands?

Think about the things you have been unable to do & consider how God uses them.

We would love to pray with you today!

There will come a day when your faith in Jesus will be challenged…

…So remember what true faith is

…Most importantly remember that your faith is grounded in Him who has saved you not your own doing

✨ Faith is central to all things we hope in

…we do not have the ability of knowing all things, or observing all things from the beginning to end

✨ Faith is a trust that comes from God

…who builds assurance in our lives, that what we are trusting in is reliable, what we know is sufficient & that what we believe is sure

…what gets us into trouble is thinking that our faith is something that we generate.

✨ Faith is simply the avenue by which we come to God and trust Him for our salvation because He has persuaded & convinced us though His love, grace & faithfulness.

Without faith it is impossible to please God for we are not holy and beyond that if our faith comes from the righteousness of Jesus than the only things that pleases God is the faith we possess in Jesus who is the author and the protector of our faith.

Have you ever been so enamored, fascinated or enchanted with something that you just stood there mouth wide open, gazing?

It’s an important message these angelic beings have for both the disciples then as well as for us here & us now. What is implies in their announcement is really 3 things…

  1. Jesus is not leaving for good - So be ready!

Don't just stand there staring into the sky. Be obediently engaging with what God is in the process of doing.

  1. Jesus is 'Kinging' - He is establishes His Kingdom now as He sits enthroned in Heaven.

  2. There's work to be done - we are called to go, make disciples & reach the nations with the Good News of the Gospel.

What does it really look like to be His witnesses to the world?

✨ We are to engage the world - Our goal is not to create safe spaces & places for people to hide out. We are to be embowered to engage the world that He loves much He gave His only Son for!

Our timing is not like God's timing & we don't understand God's timing. Its easy to fall into the temptation of questioning the why, when & how - To make accusations & jump to conclusions before God has done His incredible work…

…You don't wait in vain - You don't cry or mourn alone. Jesus is hurting right with you, His love for you is real, His care & attention is real.

✨ Whatever you are dealing with in your life today, Jesus understands & has experiences it by taking it upon Himself - that's what the cross is all about.

…Waiting is necessary - God has eternal purposes in all things.

✨ In the waiting God is equipping, delivering & training you in righteousness.

Waiting is not in vain, unnecessary or worthless - it's the process of what God is doing in His own timing…

  • Leaning into God, going to Him & growing in relationship will always benefit us

  • Not complaining in the waiting but praying & using waiting wisely

✨ Jesus was resurrected & the same power that brough Him out of the grave is the same power that will bring you of you’re your own grave. It's the same power that turns your sorrow into joy and that turns ashes into beauty.

Do you have a security system? Have you ever considered Jesus a security system for your life?

…He saves you from your past

…He protects you day by day

…And He guarantees your future

Jesus is stronger than the evil you face!

✨ Jesus is stronger that demons - He can set you free from the things that control you. He can set you free from evil sprits & evil influences.

✨ Jesus is stronger than doubt - we are quick to attach our descriptions, definitions & labels to things we don’t understand. We try to put things in human terms.

…When God does something miraculous it can be hard to understand. We expect God to work within our human size box of understanding.

…He can give you faith to believe

✨ Jesus is stronger than the devil - The fact that Jesus cast the demon out of the man shows His power over demons & over the leader of demons.

…The power of God can carry you through your fiercest storms & He can calm the roughest seas

What strength are you depending on today? The natural response is to depend our ourselves…but Jesus is stronger!

God invites you into a relationship with Himself, a seat at the table, where all your wants for happiness, security, and significance are contented in Him!

✨ You shall not covet is commanded so that you can know the God who is trustworthy and be content in His provision - Jesus is God's perfect provision, He is the same yesterday, today, and forever

…God reveals your sin through the law - Sin produces in us all kinds of covetousness in us that chases happiness, security, and significance in more and more stuff - You cannot serve two masters - You simply can’t live the freedom way of Jesus and get sucked into the overconsumption that is normal in our society

…Focusing on the problem only makes it worse - By focusing on what you’re not supposed to do, all the sudden you really want to do it!

…Focus on your relationship with Christ. - If you keep our focus on our relationship with Christ, you can rise above our circumstances and find victory

✨ God redeems His people and provides a relationship that satisfies your longings for happiness, security, and significance - As a good, loving Father, God trains you through testing to be content in His provision

…God trains you through testing so that you will trust Him - Endure times of testing by communicating with your trainer—God.

…Do not set your hope in riches but be generous and rich toward God

Honesty in the things you say, honest/honorable living as you represent the God who created you in His image. The foundation of the 10 commandments is honoring the name of God as you put Him first in your life.

God is honorable - when you gaze at His Word it reveals His glory, but it also exposes your need for His righteousness.

There is a battle for truth in your heart.

God is trustworthy! When you gaze at the beauty of His law you see His trustworthiness.

Broken trust is why Jesus had to stand trial and die on the cross as an innocent man. It was to bring truth to a broken world, to show you reality, to bring His saving love and grace to you so that you could know truth in Jesus

God is the Truth! When you look at His Word you see reality, and you see battle for truth being waged in order to gain a foothold in your heart.

You can be set free by His Word of Truth - Set free in Jesus!

Jesus is completely changing the way we are to think about servanthood & sacrifice.

Salvation comes through His humility.

The washing of the disciples feet was a picture of what was to come on the Cross…

…That Jesus would bare the sins of the world so that we could be made right with God.

To think we can earn God's love by striving is contrary to why Jesus came in the first place.

We are saved by His grace, not our efforts. We are saved because of His humility. That's love.

His love made a way so that we could like in Him.

What constitutes stealing?

The commandments were not given to harm our families in desperate situations, they were not given see if you would be a rule follower or not. God gave us commandments to protect us from evil, hardship, for fairness & righteousness. God cares for us & even our possessions.

To really understand the scope of this commandment you have to start by considering the very character of God…

…God is loving, compassionate, gracious, kind, merciful and just.

…He is provider, giver, sustainer.

…He created to bless - that we could share in His love and grace for which He gives us.

Why is our world filled with so much selfishness, corruption, power hungry leaders and war?

Because what He has given, we corrupted.

We don't know what tomorrow will bring but God is there & He is with you!

The question, "What constitutes stealing?", really isn't an ethical debate as much as it is a question about personal integrity.

How we honor God with what He has given us - our time, talents & money.

When we take what is not ours it violates & dishonors.

It's not just about what we do - it's also about what we don't do.

The gospel has been given to us to share. The good news of Jesus transforms our lives - making us vessels fit (Because of Christ's righteousness in us) to share with the world His grace & make a difference so that others would know the love of Jesus.

To honor God is to live generously because that is what He has done for us!

He went to the cross & shed His blood so we could be forgiven.

So we could honor Him - honor that comes from a heart of gratitude towards Jesus that is displayed in generosity & grace towards each other - all for His glory!

We would love to pray with you today!

Pr. Kevin will be preached on the love we long for; as we continue in our sermon series through the 10 commandments.

We long for love & intimacy. We try to fill that longing with…

…Experiences, but they are temporary, empty and unfulfilling

…Relationships that are convenient & self-gratifying but not life-long

Jesus is the love your heart longs for…

…Jesus is committed to you - "Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her"

…Jesus is intimate with you - "Cleansed her by the washing of water with the word"

…Jesus accepts you - "So that He might present the church to Himself in spender"

…Jesus purifies you - “That she might be holy and without blemish”

I don’t know your history, your past, pain, brokenness

But I know what your future could be… in Christ.

Come to Jesus and…

…Consider His commitment to you

…Let Him cleanse you with His Word

…He longs for you to be His

…And let Him purify your heart

Jesus is the love your heart longs for!

We would love to pray with you today!

Pr. Nick preached on honoring God by honoring our neighbor; as we continue in our sermon series through the 10 commandments.

To understand the scope of this commandment you need to understand…

…We are bearers of His image - every person has been created in the image of God

…Jesus' teachings about murder, anger, and hatred

What does it mean to be made in God's image…

…We are imprints of God

…We possess His character

…We are eternal

…We are relational

Pr. Nick preached on honoring God by honoring your father and mother; as we continue in our sermon series through the 10 commandments.

"Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you." -Exodus 20:12

We are all subject to authority…

We are to represent God's authority…

The law was given in order that we would have the head knowledge to know what it looks like to honor God in our lives, and this includes obedience to parents…

But the law of truth was not complete without the grace of Jesus, because no amount of rule following could bring us into right standing with God.

To honor God is to know His grace and when the truth of His grace is in our hearts we are made complete lacking nothing and in Him we can live as representatives of his glorious grace.

Pr. Kevin preached keeping the Sabbath - what it means, what it looks like, & why it's important; as we continue in our sermon series through the 10 commandments.

"Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy." Exodus 20:8

The third commandment - where God intended to give us exactly what we need and it points out why we don't have it…God blesses rest, invites us to spend the day with Him and our nature is to do the opposite.

We need to be revived!

How are we revived with this third commandment…

…Revived by rest - we need the revival that comes from resting, trusting, and seeking Him

…Revived by worship - we can be revived in worship by the One we worship

…Revived by relationship - God's intent with the Sabbath is that relationship with Him - He is the close friend that revives you.

It is the Word of God that allows us to enter that rest…

…The Word is living and active

…The Word is sharper that a sword

…The Word that discerns your thoughts and attitudes

It is that Word that revives, that Word that gives you rest, makes you holy - that Word is Jesus!

The Sabbath rest of revival is Jesus!

Before you break apart, set apart time to rest with Jesus!

Pr. Nick preached about God's name and what is looks like for us to uphold it.

"You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain." -Exodus 20:7

Honoring the name of God includes…

…How we speak

…How we live

…Who we are

The commandments are given to show us the level of God's standard and our need for His righteousness. His righteousness can only be foin in the One who fulfilled the Law.

In honoring the name of God we begin to see Him for who He is and by honoring God's name first we treat what He has made, including those around us, with respect and honor.

Pr. Nick preached about who God is and that He is the One true God. He is, always was, and always will be.  There is no other.

"Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory" -1 Peter 1:8

Joy is not mustering up some emotion because someone else is happy or putting on the right face when you show up to church. It's something that comes naturally from the heart of one who knows what thy have! If you know what you have in Christ you have true and lasting joy.

If you're battling and you think that you can do the Christian life on your own efforts (do good or earn God's love and therefore His salvation) it's likely you are not living in the joy of the Lord. Remember if your good deeds could save you, then we would all have no hope. Eternal condemnation would be the only future for each and every one of us because we have all fallen short of the glory of God. In fact we cannot even follow all of our own rules we make for ourselves.

Joy is not found in our good works or in keeping from bad deeds…instead it's found in Christ the One who has fulfilled the law and conquered sin and death. He provides life without payment, we don't owe Him anything because we have noting to offer Him of any value.

True joy is an inward heart and feeling of emotion that comes from our position in Christ Jesus.

You don't need to run to temporary pleasures for you will not find joy in them. The glory of God has been revealed, He has come, He has conquered, and salvation is found in no one else. Only Jesus! This is Christmas.

We would love to pray with you today!

"So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him." -1 John 4:16

The world is reeling, the world is not at peace, the world is disturbed and distressed. So in the days we are living in there is a tension, in part, because the world is heading towards punishment without the true hope of redemption.

I John is showing us that although we too, struggle with fear, We should not struggle as the world does, because we have a perfect Father who loves us and gave us His Son so that we do not have to face the wrath and judgment of God.

We will all stand before God one day. However, because of His blood shed for us the believer in Christ will not be judged for our evil, but for our good.

God has not left you to fend for yourself, this is our confidence and our great defense…

…We stand on Christ’s merits by the Blood

…The Word of our Testimony

…That we are even willing to give our lives for the One who gave His life

If you are struggling today with condemnation and fear I want you to hear this message of true love…

You cannot even imagine the love your Father God has for you. He proved it by coming to earth, by making the greatest sacrifice one could make in order to provide for us what we could not for ourselves - righteousness and peace with God our Father.

Pr. Nick Dyrud reminded us of the things we can anticipate this season - true peace in Jesus.

"Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil…shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace." -Ephesians 6:11, 15

The Gospel is peace because…

Jesus is that news of happiness, who brings salvation and peace, who reigns on high and one day will restore all things back together as intended - bringing peace.

As things get more chaotic in the world…

…The Gospel of Peace will more and more be poised to play a critical role prophet to a world in desperate need of Good News.

…The Good News becomes more sweet.

Pr. Kevin Olson reminded us of the things we can anticipate this season - a genuine hope in Jesus.

"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead" -1 Peter 1:3

Anticipate Jesus today, because this Child gives hope!

Hope keeps us going, keeps us motivated for the future - Jesus gives us real hope…

…It's a living hope

He is alive - the cross could not hold Him, death could not stop Him, the grave could not contain Him!

…It is an eternal hope

God's eternal hope is a promise, a confident assurance, a reality that is yet to be seen - it’s real, it's safe, it is protected, the inheritance is kept in heaven.

…it is a powerful hope

It is God's power that is guarding us. It is a powerful hope because it is through faith in Him. If it was your faith it wouldn't be very strong. We constantly question and doubt but when we trust in God, well, that is an unshakeable faith.

…It is a genuine hope

You have to test something to know if it is genuine. Tests reveal to us what is wrong and we need that. God's Word does that for us. When your faith is tested you will come out on the other side with a stronger faith or it will be shown for what is really is.

Where is your hope?

Many of you have been hurt, disappointed, and disillusioned but maybe that is because your expectation were on people rather than on Jesus.

He lives and wants to live in you

He is eternal, He is our inheritance

He I the power of God and He can guard what we entrust to Him.

He is the real deal

Pr. Nick closed out our Discovering Your Spiritual Gifts series as he preached on our roles in the Lord's harvest.

"And he said to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest." -Luke 10:2

The harvest is plentiful - the basic idea here is there is much to be accomplished in the Kingdom of God here on earth.

The world is hungry for this message of peace and truth - the need is everywhere!

The problem is not the readiness of the harvest but rather the laborers who fail to notice their neighbors, friends, family members, acquaintances who are hungry for the Word of God.

Stop worrying about the how. Instead be attentive to those whom God puts in your path today. They are there for a reason.

The question is where is your attention for the harvest is plentiful.

Pr. Nick preached about bearing one another's burdens as we dive deeper into discovering and living out our spiritual gifts.

"So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith." -Galatians 6:10

We are all accountable to each for the spiritual welfare of one another as we struggle in life and with sin, and no one is too good or without need.

What does it look like to bear each other’s burdens…

…Using our God-given gifts to support the Body of Christ intentionally

…Celebrating the victory of forgiveness together

We should celebrate a prodigal coming home like the Father who sees His son a long way off and runs to meet his Son. He doesn’t chastise him for what He did instead he rejoices at his return.

Pr. Nick preached about the fruits of the Spirit as we dive deeper into discovering and living out our spiritual gifts.

"Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted." -Galatians 6:1

What happens when the line is crossed and someone is caught in sine and it has to be dealt with in the church?

You restore - we are instructed to restore….forgivingly rehabilitate back.

This is what God is in the business of doing and what the church be about…

…restoring our hearts and lives and one day the world and all that has been created that was defected by sin.

God loves to restore that which is broken. We cannot earn it, we don't deserve it. It's all Jesus and the sacrifice He made for us on the Cross.

Pr. Nick preached about the fruits of the Spirit as we dive deeper into discovering and living out our spiritual gifts.

"For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do." -Galatians 5:17

We are in a tug-of-war between our flesh and the Spirit. Each day we can follow the desires of our wants and pleasures rather than walk in-step with the Spirit.

We need the Holy Spirit to transform our selfish hearts and bring us into a new direction.

Fruit grows if you are a branch of the vine! The life of the Spirit grows naturally and organically as a result of natural growth in relationship with God.

The fruit of the Spirit is Jesus in us! It’s not moralism or spiritual elitism. It's not "I'm better than the person next to me". It's that our flesh has been crucified with our Savior and that we are no longest living for the flesh.

It's a life and relationship that takes you…

….places you thought you would never go

…into deeper more meaningful experiences

Following Jesus is a wondrous and majestic journey, but that doesn't mean it's easy. Sometimes it feels confusing, vulnerable, and lonely - like a tug of war.

It's a Spirit led adventure that leads to freedom to live out our God-given abilities and gifts.

We would love to pray with you today!

Pr. Kevin preached on going from groaning to glory as we dove deeper into discovering and living out our spiritual gifts.

"And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies." -Romans 8:23

The groaning causes us to long for the glory that will come…

…vs. 22 - Outward Groans - Creation has been groaning since Genesis 3. Sin affects more that the one who is doing the action.

…vs. 19 - Visible Glory - When everything will be restored to how it was created and the curse of sin is gone.

…vs. 23 - Inner Groans- Sin also affects our inner being. The internal battle affects our ability to follow the Spirit, use our spiritual gifts, and live our lives for the Lord.

…vs. 24 - Anticipated Glory - We have this hope that He is the One knocking at the door ready to meet us.

The groaning causes us to long for Jesus' coming.

Pr. Kevin preached about what is means to be a living sacrifice as we dove deeper into discovering and living out our spiritual gifts.

"I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship." -Romans 12:1

The benefit of a living sacrifice…

…God gave us differing gifts in order that we would depend on one another.

…There is no love without giving - it requires surrender, sacrifice, and thing selflessly.

The benefit of a holy sacrifice…

…A holy sacrifice is one that is done unto God or for God. It is done with a renewed mind, in faith, by faith.

The benefit of an acceptable sacrifice…

…One that is transformed rather that conformed.

…Free from competition, comparison and chaos

…Done in humility rather that pride, done for the body of Christ.

The greatest benefit of a sacrifice is on the cross…

…It is the cross where Jesus bought life for you

…It is the cross where the Christ, the Holy Sacrifice made full satisfaction for your sin

…It is the cross where the Lord made you acceptable to God.

Pr. Nick preached about what love has to do with discovering and living out your spiritual gifts.

"So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love." -1 Corinthians 13:13

Until that day we stand before Him face to face when Christ Jesus has finally and completely restored all things to the way God intended we still need…

…Hope - our hope rests in Christ and that day.

…Faith - faith is the evidence of things not seen, so we need faith now, but when they are seen we will no longer need faith or hope.

But love… it will always be and we will be and on that day we will be in perfect relationship with our Heavenly Father.

Love ties it all together

The point here is - Spiritual gifts do not have meaning if void of love. Spiritual gifts find their value in their purpose - Sharing the love and grace of Christ. You can get everything right, but if you don’t get this right you have it all wrong

We do not have true love in our hearts. It comes from God by way of His sacrifice and atonement. Jesus took on our arrogance, pride, and selfishness so that we could have eternal life and could live out His purposes and blessings. Love bears all things because upon Himself all things were taken, in order that we could experience all things for eternity with Him.

God is patient with you and kind. He does not keep record of your wrongs — on the cross He cast them as far as the east is from the west. He does not rejoice in wrongdoing or injustice but He rejoices in the truth. He bares all things, and has endured all things… Because He is love.

Pr. Nick preached about how you can know what your spiritual gifts are as we continued in our new sermon series, Discovering Your Spiritual Gifts.

If God really imparts supernatural/God-given gifts in each of His children, how do I really know what gifts are available to me and how do I get them? Does the Bible give me a list of things to chose from?

We don’t know for sure if we have an exhaustive list of gifts but we are given many examples of spiritual gifts in various books of the Bible such as I Corinthians 12:8-11.

If we neglect to truly understand spiritual gifting, we are more likely to gage our roles/abilities within the Body of Christ based upon assumptions, feelings, preferences, and personalities.

And what happens when we do this…

…You get… people sitting on the sidelines not operating in the gifts; only seeing themselves as spectators rather than players on the field.

…You get people not doing what they're gifted to do, but rather what they're told to do or what they feel like doing, or what they’re guilted into doing. And that’s how we burn out.

…You get people doing what’s popular or what everyone around them is doing and this results in too many people doing the same things or not enough people doing the things that are less popular to do.

Jesus never intended for His church to operate on their own efforts, only His performance and His work of the Cross and His victory in the resurrection can provide the power for you to live out the will and work of God within His kingdom.

Have you ever asked God to reveal your spiritual gifts? Discovering your gifts are about growing in your relationship with Jesus and His body — it’s not about you finding yourself or discovering your personality. It’s about acknowledging what Jesus has already done and done with in you and how you fit just right in this fellowship we call the church.

We would love to pray with you today!

Pr. Nick preached about the benefits of discovering spiritual gifts in our new sermon series, Discovering Your Spiritual Gifts from 1 Corinthians 12:1-10

Verse 4 says these gifts are for service and activities that make up many different aspects of ministry and facets for growing together as the Body of Christ and reaching other with the gospel… but all are united in One Spirit and purpose.

What does Gifts mean?

…Displays of God’s grace/blessing - They are more than natural abilities you are born with like singing, they are spiritual and supernatural. They are gifts that you could not know if not from God.

What are gifts for?

  1. Gifts for the common good - It’s not for you that you have been given a gift… it’s for the common good… but it will bless you to live out your gifts and abilities.

Common good’ is a picture of the church functioning, displaying properly

3 Questions to ask yourself…

…Do my actions support the greater whole?

…Do my opinions unite or divide?

…Do my words build up or tear down?

Common good is about His relationship with us maturing/growing and it’s about God’s long term plan.

Jesus made a way so that you could fit in and all who are in didn’t get in because of what they did instead by what He did! Your place in Him is given freely because He loves you!

Pr. Nick kicked off our new sermon series, "Discovering Your Spiritual Gifts" as he preached on walking in a manner worthy of the call from Ephesians 4:1-12.

This last Sunday was the 70th year anniversary of Emmaus' worship services and we want to continue to be a church is that is eager to maintain unity and walk in a manner worthy of the calling.

We are not a result of random chance but rather we are part of a collective that God has designed and formed to fulfill His greater purposes. No one is overlooked; each of us has been given special ability for the greater good.

He is the Vine we are the branches - the branches bare fruit if they are connected to the Vine. It's all in Him.

There are not elite and non-elite Christians. Full time workers or part-time working in the Kingdom…

…We all play a role.

Walk in a manner worthy means…

…The believer maintains unity in the bond of peace because we are connected to Him.

…The believer lives our the call when connected to Him.

…His righteousness is our righteousness - We are worthy because He is worthy.

The key to discovery your role and your spiritual gift or gifts is found in a heart that is fully surrendered to the finished and completed work of Jesus Christ on the cross and the victory that we already possess in His resurrection…

Where do you fit in?

…It starts with a unified purpose in Him and through Jesus.

…You fit in - in Jesus and in Jesus we are unified together.

How might we better connect to Him so therefore we will be better connected to the collective Church in order to life in the blessing that God has made us for and desires to work in and through we?

We need real tangible interaction especially if we are going to reach the world for Christ.

Pr. Nick preached on God's timing and earnest prayer.

There is a battle going on - both spiritual and physical…

…Standing for Jesus will mean some level of hardship and persecution because light and dark do not mix.

Standing on the promises of God also means we are standing in a spiritual conflict zone…

… the enemy wants to stop what God is doing on earth as it is in heaven.

What does it look like to stand in a spiritual conflict zone?

  • Relational Conflict - in the home, outside the home, with loves ones, with strangers, etc.

  • Temptation - desire, urge, impulse

  • Internal Troubles - doubt, grief, fear, anxiety, lack of confidence

We need deliverance, physically yes, but also spiritually…

…That is what Jesus offers each and every one of us! By His sacrifice for our sins and the penalty He paid for us!

Pr. Kevin preached on seeing Jesus in the day to day.

Jesus isn't hiding, but we can get so caught up in what we are doing that we don't recognize Him.

He wants to reveal Himself to you today!

Can you see Jesus? Are you ready to see Him?

He will change you, He will stretch you, and grow you….

…Once you answer the call to be His disciple, life is not the same.

Seeing Jesus is the motivation we need to serve Him…

…He is the One that came into our dark world to bring light.

…He is the One that called to the thief on the cross and said, today you will be with Me in paradise.

…He is the One that remembered and died for you.

…He is the One that is interceding for you still today.

Pr. Nick preached on keeping your eyes fixed on Jesus through the storms of life.

A little homework for you: Self-inventory or personal zone of assessment:

  1. Identify strongholds in your life — (Like a fortress built to harbor the enemy) strongholds can be anything like lies we believe, un-forgiveness, generational sins, unconfessed sins)
  2. Identify areas of your life that cause worry (Things you’re hold onto dearly you shouldn’t, things you cannot control and things that cause anxiety)
  3. Identify areas of distraction (Things taking precedence over Jesus)

There is both something physical & spiritual going on…

…There is an enemy attempting to keep the work of God from taking place on earth as it is in heaven!

We are not alone, Jesus is fighting the battle on our behalf & the victory has been won by Christ on the Cross!!

In Matthew 14, Peter steps out of the boat - his safety and security in the storm and goes out to Jesus…

…We think so often that the safe place is the human built safeties like the boat where we are secure - when all along the safest place to be is where He called us out to be with Him.

Do what God calls you to do, not what feels the safest.

Go to the one who is Lord over the opposition, the chaos and the struggle…

…The weapons of our warfare that destroy strongholds are: Prayer, time in the Word of God, and Worship.

We would love to pray with you today!

Pr. Nick preached about Jesus calling Peter to be one of His disciples from Luke 5:1-11.

"And when they had brought their boats to land, they left everything and followed him." -Luke 5:11

It's easy for the church to get distracted from what we are called to fulfill…

…It's easy for us to get caught up in life and comfort, cares and worries of the world neglect our purposes and gifts God has called us to live out.

But the commission Jesus gave the disciples, He has given to us.

The church is not a building, the church is the body of Christ.

We want to be a "But at Your Word" kind of church…

…That's what letting go is all about

…Jesus does the calling and the work in our hearts

The conviction of the Holy Spirit does not stop at repentance…

…It continues as we gain perspective and follow after Jesus taking both our pain and our fear and us it to point others to the saving power of Jesus!

Jesus calls broken people to let go and go!

Pr. Nick closed out our sermon series on The Solas as he preached on Glory Alone from Romans 8:16-23; 28-30.

We are glory-oriented people…We are created to glorify.

“For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.” -Habakkuk 2:14

As water covers water. The knowledge of God’s glory is that to the universe. It consumes. His glory is everywhere….

…Glory is one of the characteristics that makes God who He is, and in turn - all of His characteristics are glorious.

…God displays His glory in that it emanates from Him…And that is not only seen in the material world we see, but has always been intended to be seen through us.

We are a picture of His glory - We are image bearers of God…

…everyone will glorify God.

…How will you glorify God - poorly, or in a dishonoring way? Or will you honor God appropriately?

Our fallen nature is to be selfish. We chose small temporary glories over the glory God wanted to share with us…

…Rather than thank God and give Him the honor and praise we took the honor ourselves and or gave it to lesser beings.

…Rather than live as image barriers of His glory we have become obsessed with our own images and images of things around us.

But God’s love - the amazing thing about God’s love for us is that although we traded it away, corrupted it and gave away the glory God - His glory has remained.

Jesus came to pay the penalty of falling short of His glory and conquered sin and death in order that we could be glorified through Him.

To behold the God of glory, we must behold Christ crucified - which is suffering with Christ

How do we suffer with Christ?

…Have courage to live out your faith despite what people say or may do to you

…Embracing the road that God has for you despite its struggles

…Suffer with a neighbor or a loved one

As a church we are called to find those who are suffering and engage the sufferings on this earth in order that more and more people would know the hope of eternal glories that await beyond this momentary suffering we are all experiencing. Not avoiding those who suffer… but being there in the suffering… when going through suffering most just need someone not to fix it but to stand by them, to suffer with.

Pr. Kevin preached on Christ Alone in our sermon series The Solas.

Christ alone means…

…there is One God

…there is One Mediator

…there is One Jesus - fully God and fully man

There is no one like Jesus…

…He is God

…He is Man

…He is The Christ

…He is The Savior

Jesus + something = nothing

Jesus + nothing = everything

He gave His life for you, He gives you life now, and promises life to come.

Jesus is seeking you - He is waiting for you!

Today is your day to say Yes to Jesus!

Pr. Nick preached on Faith Alone from Galatians 1:6-10, 2:15-21 in our sermon series: The Solas.

Faith is the only passage by which we receive what this man Jesus has done for us….

…Faith is not a convincing of ourselves, its' God convincing or compelling us

…Faith is not an ability of our own, it’s the ability of God

…Faith is not blind reaching it is our letting go of our own control

No one had to teach us how to come up with ways to justify our own actions. But there is no justifying wrong - we can try, though that is not just. We cannot change what we have done.

How does God remove the guilt, shame, condemnation and sin from us and receive us back into relationship with Him?

We have been born into sin, its apart of our very nature. If God is to remove it from the world He would have to remove us. We see this happen in the account of Noah and the flood. The only way to stop the cycle was to start over…

…But God being gracious and merciful preserved a remnant through the family of Noah. Through this family we could be spared and one day a Savior would come and has come to take away the condemnation, guilt and shame through the forgiveness of since by one perfect sacrifice.

The doctrine of justification by faith alone is that God declares ungodly sinners righteous by giving us Christ's righteousness. This happens apart from anything we do.

God came done from heaven to become the sin we committed, so we could become His children. We are justified through faith in Christ.

Pr. Nick preached on Grace Alone from Ephesians 2:1-10 in our new sermon series, The Solas.

Grace ALONE - Through nothing of our own doing, we have the favor of God through Jesus. We are accepted by God.

We measure favor in terms of what we do, what we have or don’t have. We measure favor in terms of our behavior. Because we live in a world where the mentality is that we must earn or deserve things.

Favor in God’s eyes is not measured by what we have on earth or how things are going… and most certainly it is not measured by what we’ve done or haven't done.

Many of us see the road to Christian maturity as one we work towards by our own efforts but in actuality self-sufficiency and self-reliance has no need for God’ s grace. But when God’s grace fills our lives, and we are open to His leading… we begin to see more and more…

…That the grace that was extended to us is a great joy to share with those in our lives and a world longing for something lasting and eternal.

People who live in Grace are living in favor — so therefore they are…

…Not bound by self-conscious burdens

…Not bound by the disapproval of others or the disapproval of their own thinking

…They are living in forgiveness and are free from living in the thinking they have to impress and appease God. Rather they live in the freedom of their forgiveness and are grateful for the mercy of God. Living in grace is living with a focus on Jesus and His righteousness.

Grace Alone - You can’t earn it and you don’t deserve it…

…Yet through faith in Jesus, you can have the eternal life and relationship… He offers to you freely.

Pr. Kevin preached from Psalm 46 and the importance of our dependence to God and worship to Him…

If the Christian faith is a dependent life, then…

…We have one Father and we are His children - we have surrendered our lives to God

…We depend on Jesus for forgiveness, new life, hop, eternal life

…The Holy Spirit comes to live in the life of the believer

Is it possible to celebrate our dependence?

…Worship is that celebration of dependence

…It is where we respond to who God is and what He has done

Worship is a declaration of dependence but instead of something limiting or restricting, it is a place of rest, confidence and trust.

We are dependent on the Lord for…

…His protection - v. 1

…His strength - v. 2-3

…His presence - v. 7

A Declaration of dependence means you need Jesus!

Pr. Kevin preached from Psalm 86 and how worshipping God brings unity…

Worship is our response to who God is and what He has done.

When we pray we admit our need and His ability.

The Hebrew term Shalom refers to wholeness. We need that and God can provide it!

Worship fixes what other things break.

Four reasons that worship can unite us…

…Worship means we have One Teacher. Worship can fix us when we acknowledge One Teacher.

…Worship means we have One Truth. We live in a world of contradictions. Worship says God is greater that we are and worship Him means He gets to define what is true.

…Worship means we have One Love. Worship draws us back to that first love, that intimate friendship with God and that one relationship that satisfies.

…Worship means we have One Fear. We have nothing to fear if our judge is the one that dies for us. Fear God alone. He is powerful, all knowing, all present. Without Him you will perish - with Him you can do anything.

If worship is our response to what God has done. What is your response?

…Will you embrace your teacher and His truth?

…Will He be your one love that delivers you from all other fears?

Pr. Nick preached from Psalm 29 and God's strength…

What makes us weak? What causes us to be tired?

…Trying to do things on our own strength.

…Not taking the time to rest.

…Not getting spiritually fed.

God is greater than the chaos.

God is over the uncertainty.

Worship is not just something about God…

…What we are doing is more than saying something about God

What we are doing in worship is a glimpse of greater things, eternal things, things to come, almighty things

We are joining the heavenly beings in worshiping

Our lives are to lived out as a song of God in out life

Giving thanks to God together

Why do we worship, praise and adore?

…Because God changes our hearts as we shift our focuses on things that matter the most. He unites us and delivers us. He sustains us through His strength.

This is the last parable of our Reframing Your View series.

Pr. Kevin preached on serving, serving others and serving The King, and the end times.

Whom we serve will affect our future.

There are three groups in this text…

…1. On one side are those who served others. They didn't know He was watching, but He knew everything they did. They didn't serve for recognition or reward. They just served. When you serve The King's people, you serve The King.

…2. On the other side are those who served themselves. They didn't see him, if they had they would have acted different. They didn't care for others but thy would have cared for the King. The would have responded for recognition or reward.

The King knows His servants…

…He knows what you serve even the least or the lowest ones.

…The King doesn't see them as least or lowly. He calls them His brothers.

He Knows you…

He knows who you serve and who serves you…

Everything you do is a chance to serve the King…

…3. On The King's side is the One who served you.

The Son of Man when to the cross to prepare your future…

…He made the invitation personal

…He made the blessing tangible

…He made the Kingdom accessible

Will you accept His invitation?

Pr. Nick preached on persistence, prayer, faith, and justice.

If an insensitive, unqualified, unholy judge is willing to give justice because of the persistence of the one continuing to come to him and ask, how much more will a holy, caring, loving and Heavenly Father listen and provide for you?

Jesus is drawing a contrast between this worldly judge and God the true judge — God is the opposite of the judge in this parable.

Prayer is not a ‘device’ to get us what we want or to manipulate the hand of God. It’s a channel or means of connection to the only one who has the ability to answer the way everything should be answered.

Persistent prayer is a picture of persistent faith and persistent faith is a belief that sticks with it…

…Persistent faith is confidence in God’s ability

…Persistent faith finds its confidence in the promises of God

…Persistent faith is acknowledgement that Jesus is the only one to turn to for He is the only one who can win the battle we are in.

When we recognize our battles are fought on our knees…

…We are freed from the burden because it’s his battle

…Persistence towards God starts to change the way we look at the problem and the people and our role within the things we are bringing to God

Pr. Nick preached part 2 of the teaching from Luke 19:11-27 on God's incredible redemptive love for all people!

Without proper understanding of obedience we can easily get overwhelmed and ten to do 2 things rather than trust in Jesus…

…Lower expectations.

…Lose heart and give up.

One of the most common forms of deception the enemy uses to stop us Is performance based salvation…

…Putting the burden of obedience upon ourselves rather than living in the freedom of faith and trust in Jesus.

Jesus took it upon Himself because of when we could not do on our own…

…He went to the cross and gave up everything for the sake of those who rejected Him…He alone would be the one to bridge the gap between what we can't live up to and the Father's expectations of us.

The Christian life was never meant to be lived like a pressure cooker. Rather the peace of God, as it rules in your hearts, gives us freedom to live out and multiply what we have been given.

He came to seek and save the lost!

Pr. Nick preached out of Luke 19:11-27 on God's incredible redemptive love for all people!

Time and time in the Gospels, Jesus shows us that He is less concerned about reputation and much more concerned for our heart and souls!

…Jesus is addressing the thinking that salvation is for certain people who are decent but no really bad people

…It's the idea that I am better than my neighbor because I grew up in it, follow the right things and only associate with certain people

…It's the thinking that you have to clean up your act at least a little bit before you can sit down with Jesus and have lunch with him.

…It's the idea that earning favor, love and relationship is the way to God - When in reality no one is deserving and no one can earn salvation.

Jesus is seeking us…how should we respond…

…Stop trying to varnish your reputation - Jesus is not calling us to make up for our past by doing good deeds and being clean people. Instead when we meet the Savior He enters our home and His redeeming love transforms our hears and lives.

…God wants us to surrender our judgements and prejudice and accept that the work of Christ on the cross is enough for each one of us and your neighbor with the bad reputation. Jesus cares about your pain - He also cares about the pain of your enemy.

…Jesus died on the Cross so that we could walk this life in freedom and turn to Him who is eager to seek you and free you from the captivity holding you back from experiencing the joy of the Lord and the fellowship of his love.

…You follow His Teaching

…You follow His Conduct and my Aim

…You follow His Faith

You're going to find yourself at intersections in life…  and your going to need to trust that the work that God has done in your life will continue as you continue in Him
