Some of the greatest writings in history were written from prison—like Martin Luther King Jr.'s Letter from Birmingham Jail, John Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress, and Nelson Mandela's Autobiography. The Apostle Paul's letter to the Philippians is no different, but most people have never heard of it. Written from a Roman prison to a church he started in Philippi, Philippians is a short letter full of brilliant theology, no-nonsense wisdom, and tattoo-worthy one-liners that has sparked joy, resilience, humility, and more in the church ever since.

Is there anything in your life that’s off-limits from Jesus? If Jesus is Lord, “there is not one square inch over the whole domain of our human existence,” Dutch theologian Abraham Kuyper says, “over which Christ … does not cry, mine.” In our 2026 Vision Teaching Series, we’re going to explore how Jesus is Lord over every aspect of our lives—including every minute, dollar, person, inch, word, and calling.

Why do we hang Christmas lights? It’s a lot of work—risking our lives on ladders, braving the cold, and untying knotted up lights—but that doesn’t stop you. As the days get shorter, it’s something you can do to bring light to the darkness. When one writer described the arrival of Jesus at Christmas, that’s what he said about Jesus: “The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.” On Sundays in December, you’re invited to join us as we explore how Jesus lights up your life, your relationships, and your whole neighborhood even better than the best Christmas light display.

In a cultural moment when you might be getting tired of trying to blaze your own trail, Jesus is inviting you to follow him on a well-worn, ancient path to the life you’re made for. As Jesus says, “I’m the way, the truth, and the life.” It’s a narrow and challenging path, but he says that, if you walk with him, you’ll find that his “burden is light.” In this four-part teaching series, we’re inviting you to follow Jesus along the pathway to faith, power, change, and purpose in a community of other people who want to do the same.

The Bible tells the marriage story that helps make sense of our own marriage stories. It opens with a moment that feels like a wedding, and it closes with another wedding (just not like any wedding you’ve ever been to). And, the rest of the Bible is full of real stories that highlight how bad marriage can get and how good it has the potential to be. Whether you’re married, single, or somewhere in-between, join us on Sundays as we explore the rise, fall, redemption, and future of marriage.

This is one of our annual biblical theology teaching series—following the thread of a theme through the biblical metanarrative from Genesis to Revelation.

If you moved away, would any of your neighbors miss you? As followers of Jesus, we’re supposed to be known for how well we love our neighbors, but it’s easier than ever to not even know our neighbors. That’s why, this summer, we want to equip you to pray for, know, serve, and invite the neighbors that God has intentionally placed you near. We want to be a church that’s “for the good of the neighborhood” one neighbor at a time. Kick off the summer with us by joining us on Sundays for this three-week teaching series starting on Sunday, June 22.

Church shouldn’t be boring. And, the book of the Acts is proof of that. In every generation of the church, people have rediscovered the story of the early church as it’s told in the book of Acts—and it has set the church on fire. In a cultural moment where the church is in decline, we want to read the book of Acts page by page and highlight moments that have the potential to renew the church in our time. We don’t just want to read stories from Acts, we want to live them. If that’s what you want and you’re just curious about faith, join us for Season 2 of Highlights from Acts.

How do you follow Jesus into the life you’re made for? One step at a time. In our Everyday Faith teaching series, we explored the five foundational beliefs on which you build the life you’re made for. Now, in Everyday Life, we’re ready to start building the lives we’re made for—what Jesus called “life to the fullest” (John 10v10). There’s at least six overlapping areas of the life you’re made for: moral life, emotional life, physical life, relational life, vocational life, and cultural life.

Christmas makes me feel _____________. How would you fill in that blank? You might feel anxious because there’s just so much to do or so many people to talk to. You might feel skeptical when you hear the Christmas story. And, some of you might feel happy—and you’ve had your house decorated since before Thanksgiving. Christmas has a way of amplifying whatever emotions we might be feeling just below the surface. No matter what you’re feeling this Christmas season, you’re invited to join us for the Christmas teaching series on the emotions of Christmas starting Sunday, December 8 at 9 AM or 11 AM.

Prayer is an art. Anyone can pray, of course, just like any kid with a marker can make art. Like any art form, though, it’s a skill that anyone can get better at by learning from the masters of the past and practicing it in your everyday life. In this ten-week teaching series, as we continue to learn what it looks like to “devote ourselves to prayer” in 2024, we’re going to explore what the Bible says about the art of prayer and make room to practice it.

It’s an inside look at the conversations and controversies surrounding his rise from humble roots in Nazareth, his crucifixion in Jerusalem, and the twist ending that created a movement that’s still going strong two thousand years later.

Everyone lives by faith. Faith is the basic set of beliefs that help you make sense of the five big questions that everyone has deep down about where we came from, where we're headed, and just about everything in-between. Even if you've never written them down or said them out loud, these beliefs shape how you live—or, at least, they're meant to. That's why, in this year’s Everyday Institute teaching series, we'll explore the kind of faith that shapes the life you’re made for and how to close the gap between what you say you believe and how you actually live.

One of the most famous lines of the Christmas story is: “There was no room at the inn.” When Jesus was born, no one could make room for him in Bethlehem—so he was born in a manger. And, sometimes, it feels like nothing has changed. With Christmas approaching, you might think you don’t have room for Jesus in your life, and you’re not sure how to make room even if you wanted to. In this four-week series leading up to Christmas, we’re going to explore what it could look like to make room for Jesus in your life and leave you with practical ways you can start.

Please note we were having technical difficulties with recording this sermon and the audio may be rough at some points.

Which chapter of life are you in right now? And, more importantly, what difference does it make as you follow Jesus? You might be in young adulthood (20s - 30s) and trying to navigate big decisions around faith, love, and work. Or, maybe, you're in the long years of mid-life (40s - 50s) and wondering if you're really spending your time, energy, and resources where you can make the greatest impact. And, some of you are in late adulthood (60s+) and uncertain about how to make the most of it without many older mentors to give you advice. No matter what chapter you're in, join us for a three-week series as we discover what it looks like to follow Jesus well through each chapter of our lives.

Thanks for joining us for the third and final week of our series, Day One.

Your first day of something new is often a defining moment. That’s true with day one of a new job, day one at a new school, or day one of marriage—and, as we see in the early church, the same is true with day one of following Jesus. In Acts 2, we read about how 3,000 people believed the good news, were baptized and received the promise of the Holy Spirit on day one. While this doesn’t always happen in one day, it’s a model for what day one of everyday life like Jesus can be like in our own time.

In the weeks leading up to Christmas, we’re going to explore some of the doubts many of us have about the Christmas story and why you can still believe it.

Thanks for joining us for the sixth and final week in our series, Family Patterns.

Your family is probably a little bit dysfunctional. And so is mine. In fact, if you open the first book of the Bible, you see all kinds of dysfunctional families. That’s because one of the primary ways that the curse of sin shows up is in your family relationships—with your parents, your siblings, your kids, your spouse, your in-laws, and the rest of the people you see at your family reunion. But, just like God still used the broken families in Genesis to unleash blessings on the whole world, the good news is that he can do the same in your family. In this series, we’re going to explore five patterns of family dysfunction that might show up in your family and how Jesus can change all that.

Thanks for joining us for the third and final week in our series, Who Leads The Church?

Who leads the church? If you’ve ever asked this question, you’re not alone. The early church was asking the same question in the first century, and churches have been asking that question ever since. Instead of leaving us an organizational chart, Jesus left us his Holy Spirit and the promise that he’ll come back one day—leaving us to figure it out in the meantime. Join us during the three Sundays of Advent as we explore what church leadership looks like until Jesus comes back.

It’s an inside-look at the conversations and controversies surrounding his rise from humble roots in Nazareth, his crucifixion in Jerusalem, and the twist ending that created a movement that’s still going strong two thousand years later.

Churches are closing left and right. Just drive through Pittsburgh and count the church buildings that have been converted into restaurants, community centers, houses, and venues. In fact, every year for the past decade more churches have closed than opened. What does it take to be a church that lasts? That’s what we want to find out by looking at the Bible and our church history. Bellevue Christian Church has been around since 1896, and we believe that if we can uncover why it’s lasted 125 years so far, it might last at least another 125 more.
