In this episode, my guest James Reagan of the How We Feel Project, and I talk about emotional intelligence and what it means to your health, harmony, and happiness, and how using a simple app can help you identify, understand and articulate your emotions rather than ignore them.

Emotional intelligence gives us the ability to read our instinctive feelings and those of others. It allows us to understand and label emotions as well as express and regulate them.

We show you how using a simple app can help you

  1. Identify, understand, and articulate your emotions rather than ignore them
  2. Implement strategies to become your best self even in tough moments
  3. Begin to recognize patterns in how you're feeling
  4. Deepen social connection with those closest to you while doing so.

Want to know how to use the energy that comes with spring to your advantage so that that feeling of exhaustion you get from going 100 mph, 100% of the time starts to lift?

In this episode, I'll share with you:

  1. What the rhythm of spring represents.
  2. How the energy of spring might show up in your life.
  3. Three ways to invite the rhythm of spring into your life.
  4. The one thing you need to remember to do to use the energy to your benefit.

The shift into spring offers up another opportunity for us to celebrate our rhythms and remember to use them to our advantage. Each seasonal shift we experience, just like the lunar shifts and personal cyclical shifts, allows us to not only practice transitioning form one thing to another, but also removes some of the pressure we might place on ourselves because of self-imposed or others' expectations if we place intention around those transitions.

Today in honor of International Women's Day, I want to continue to honor one of the women I admire most in this world. A woman who has lived a full life with a relaxed ease. Leading with love and connection rather than fear and avoidance, she is a beautiful picture of what Health Harmony and Happiness is.

In part 2 of my conversation with my 104-year-old friend, Christa Belknap, we dive deeper into her wisdom and perceptive insights on life. We talk about life amid historical events, her unanticipated adaptability to technology and the profound impact of education. Christa shares her adventurous side, reminiscing of her time in a motorcycle club and traveling with her husband to wistfully recounting the emotions attached to historical events like sending family off to war.

Her contagious spirit of resilience and adaptability combined with her love for others and curiosity in life instills a significant message.

Everyone wants the secret to a long life, and although there may not be just one, we do uncover some of those key elements in today's episode.

Join me as I sit down with my 104-year-old friend, Christa Belknap, to glean some beautiful wisdom from her.

This is the first in a 2-part interview with Christa Belknap, a beautiful soul who has lived her 104 years leading with love. In our conversation Christa uncovers some of the key elements of a long and fulfilling life. She shares her wisdom and life experiences, attributing her longevity to love, faith, exercise, and letting go of things no longer serving her.

From physical to spiritual self-care, Christa shares wisdom on living a long and beautiful life. One of the earliest "fitness" models (as we might know them to be called), Christa even modeled for the newspaper in a column called "Do Not Grow Old" back in the late 30's/early 40's. She has certainly let that element ring true as the years have passed.

Christa shares various aspects of what her life has been like, including about her family, beliefs, and the importance of staying adaptable and leading with love. The conversation highlights the significance of slowing down and being present in life and how love and connection can bring people together.

It's time to get back into a routine. The body works in patterns and habits, so when it's spent some time being out of sorts because of schedule changes or downtime, as has been the case for me a lot recently with winter break and an obnoxious number of snow days, how do you return to the sense of normalcy or routine that keeps you thriving?

In this episode, I'll share with you...

  1. How to know when you need to invite more routine into your life or back into your life
  2. Why routines, patterns and habits actually create expansion and freedom in your life
  3. How to balance routine with flow

After a restful break, it's time to rekindle routines and habits for a mindful journey through winter. In this episode I explore the delicate balance between structure and flow, navigating winter's pause while reigniting creativity and self-discovery. Learning to transition through life with ease is what cultivating health, harmony and happiness is all about. I share insights on cultivating wellness, fostering connection, and embracing the beauty of easing through seasonal transitions.

In an effort to clarify how I view the connection between Christianity and manifestation, from my current state of consciousness, and that I didn't share in the last episode, I riff about what it means to be Christian and believe in the power of manifestation.

I believe these concepts can coexist and wasn't completely clear on that in the previous episode. In my mind both practices revolve around allowing positive energy to flow, fostering abundance for oneself and others.

My intention in sharing this episode is to help bridge the gap between a more conservative Christian viewpoint and the more mystical "woo-woo" beliefs. I believe in using positive energy to create beneficial circumstances for ourselves and others, with the understanding that the force behind this energy is God.

Manifestation does not have to been seen as creating something from nothing, but rather shaping circumstances through free will to foster greater well-being. I believe that everything good and positive comes from God, and ultimately, we have to surrender to His plan for our lives, but we can indeed create the circumstances and own our thoughts and actions to live in a way that moves us towards what we want to be inviting into our lives.

*Please note the views and opinions expressed in this episode are a discussion about personal beliefs and experiences of the host and guest.Christianity and manifestation can indeed go in the same sentence–it’s about allowing the positive flow of energy to create abundance, which essentially what prayer is all about.

I believe that God is the Great Creator...of all. And with that, we can take the steps to live in a way that aligns with where we want to be in life, but ultimately it is up to God.

We can't create anything from nothing, it is all God-given. And yet, there is a way of being or living in this world that also allows for us to create the mindset and open heart to connect with the goodness that the love of God has to offer.

In this podcast episode, my guest, Rachel Bayford, and I discuss the compatibility of Christianity and manifesting. We explore the idea that manifesting is about being open to creative possibilities, making intentional requests, and connecting with inner guidance. The episode highlights our personal stories related to manifesting and emphasizes the importance of positivity and faith in this practice, suggesting that it can indeed align with Christian beliefs.

Here's what you'll learn in today's episode:

  1. What manifesting is
  2. Why it's OK to manifest even if you're Christian
  3. The steps to manifest
  4. What manic manifesting is and why it won't work for you.

A little about Rachel:Having studied Wayne Dyer's work for many years Rachel believes that “everything is perception and when we change the way we look at things, those things we look at, change!” Rachel prides herself in reframing and turning negative emotions into positive feelings and thoughts.

Have you ever pondered about the intriguing paradox of human existence; how we simultaneously encapsulate both the physicality of being human and the spirituality of divinity? Join me, along with Melissa Harris, as we dive into this topic. We invite you to discover the rhythms of humanity - the collective earthly experience, our personal day-to-day trials and tribulations, and the emotional and cognitive phenomena that make us who we are. Equally, we'll delve into the essence of divinity and how our spiritual connectedness is woven into our being and echoes in the world around us.

We discuss the limitations of black-and-white thinking and the importance of embracing curiosity to find a deeper connection with the divine within ourselves. Melissa and I touch on the significance of balancing faith and openness, forgiveness, and the idea that all world religions share a common message of love and harmony.

In today's episode we'll cover:1. That we are a living paradox - one in which we can be fully human and fully divine at the same time, and how our awareness of this leads to wholeness.

  1. That everything in our experience is sacred and is part of our connection with {mystery, Universe, God}.

  2. That the more we can release our grasp on certainty of belief and surrender to something beyond the limits of our minds, the deeper we can connect with the {mystery, Universe, God}.

How does breath relate to your rhythms? Or to balancing the masculine and feminine energy that reside within you?

Your breath connects the world within you with the world around you, and breath work can be the tool you use to link your own rhythms and the world's rhythm so you live in flow instead of chaos.

Your breath invites a more balanced, mindful way of living. In today's episode I'll uncover the connection between breathwork and your energetic rhythms.

You'll learn:

  1. Why breathwork most certainly is related to your energetic rhythms
  2. How breathwork is similar to tracking your rhythms and the rhythms around you
  3. How breathwork can be a tool to use to your advantage during your cycle.

Today's talk could change how you perceive and interact with life's most natural process - breathing. Breathing exercises can indeed help us slow down, cultivate mindfulness during chaos, and fill us up rather than drain us, just like tracking your Energetic Rhythms can do.

Breathing well, aka Functional Breathing, is breathing that optimizes the air exchange that takes place within your body. Creating the right environment for this gas exchange to take place. But in order to do that, one of the key elements of breathing well is actually to slow down your breath. And believe it or not using your body's natural rhythms and the rhythms around you involves that same element of slow. It's about creating a new baseline way of living. A more mindful approach to showing up in this world.

How you breathe is who you are as a person, so when you can slow your breath, your life naturally begins to slow down and feel less chaotic. Less rushed. Less busy all the time, even if it is full. It seems to flow instead of fight the chaos that surrounds it. Listen in to learn more.

Your mind and body are one, not separate as we've been led to believe. And the quality of both your breath and posture mirror the way you show up in this world.

Imagine if a simple shift in your posture could change the way you're perceived or the way you perceive the world around you, or if intentional breathing could bring focus and calm to your life. In this episode, I unpack the profound idea that the body and mind are one and not separate. And as one, your breath plays a crucial role in binding them together.

In this episode you'll learn:

  1. What the body-mind connection is
  2. How it influences how you show up in this world
  3. How breathing and body posture impact your thoughts and how you feel.

Plus, I share details with you on the upcoming five-day challenge: Intentional Breathwork Simplified - a chance for you to kick-start your journey towards a more focused and intentional life.

When your Inner Critic stops by and brings along resentment for the ride, everyone around you, including yourself, might want to run for the hills.

Your inner critic is the opposite of your inner guidance and she or he usually has it out for you, especially when she brings along resentment. But it's not always a bad thing when she shows up.

In today's episode, I share about a time when my inner critic and resentment were screaming in my ears and how I used it to my advantage instead of letting it bring me down. I share how allowing these parts of me to be present and have a voice led me to enriching my experience as a mom as well as deepening my relationship with my husband and myself.

Feeling stuck is a good indicator that something needs to be released from your life. Yet when it regularly feels like the chaos of running kids, making sure they're fed and bathed while also taking care of the household and your relationship with your spouse (and hopefully even yourself) dictates your life, it may make the thought of letting go of anything seem impossible.

Which is why it's essential to carve out time in your schedule to actually focus on the task of letting go.

In this episode, you'll learn:

  1. Why releasing is essential to your action-taking nature
  2. How to know when it's time to release something
  3. What a releasing ritual is
  4. How to create your own releasing ritual

In your life releasing might look like getting rid of physical things that are cluttering up your home environment or digital clutter on your device or in your inbox, or it might look like mental clutter that's taking up precious real estate in your big beautiful mind.

Just like physical clutter can make you feel more chaotic, stressed or contracted, mental and emotional clutter can do the same.

You don't have to live with the mental and emotional clutter anymore.

And when you are able to let go of whatever is stuck in your brain, you experience freedom and flow...and it's beautiful!

A releasing ritual or ceremony helps you place intention around whatever it is you want or need to let go of in life.

There are 3 things an ADHD mind needs something to be in order to stay focused on it. That thing has to be interesting, important and have a sense of urgency to it. Those rules likely apply to anyone, even if you don't have ADHD, but unfortunately not everything in life meets those criteria, and when it doesn't, you have to have a plan to stay focused.

In today's episode, you'll learn:

  • What a "vibe care" toolkit is and why you need one even if you don't have ADHD
  • How to navigate life & feel successful in whatever you do while living with ADHD
  • Why a living a Vision Driven life is ideal if you're a mom living with ADHD

ADHD is seemingly a much more common thing for adults, especially moms, to be diagnosed with. As mom, we have so much going on in our brains and often it can feel like it's very hard to focus on all of them, even more so if you have ADHD.

"When you have ADHD, we, we tend to feel our way through life. We feel so much in our bodies. we're feeling all of the natural rhythms of the moon and planets as well as all from all of our senses, that we tend to go up into our, into our heads. So we feel, and then we go up into our heads and then we get into a mess. Bringing ourselves back down into the body is where we can take care of it." - Tracy

Tracy Nolin Beerman helps moms with ADHD declutter their minds and forge an empowered path forward through her powerful workshops, courses, programs and the Vision Driven Mom With ADHD podcast, even if they have a million other things in their brilliant, unique minds.

She whole-heartedly believes that it’s possible to have ADHD without ADHD having you.

Yoga is often called exercise by those wanting to be able to move more freely or those wanting to lengthen their muscles while still building strength without getting bulky, and although those may be by-products of yoga, they do not constitute this ancient spiritual practice being placed in the same context as traditional exercise.

Today you'll learn:

  • What yoga is
  • Three themes as to why yoga is more than just exercise
  • How to use the practice to begin to flow with life even when life doesn't go as you expect it to

The root of yoga is about so much more than physical fitness. It can transform your life on multiple levels without you even trying to do so—physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually-- and can be a powerful introductory and lifelong tool personal growth and self-discovery.

Yoga is not just what happens on the mat in a gym, but yoga is meant to be a life journey.

In this episode, you'll learn:

  • What a Yoga Instructor is
  • What a Yoga Teacher is
  • Why they are different
  • How to know which one is right for you

If you're looking to learn yoga, get clear on what your intention is for seeking out a yoga practice or class. Knowing the difference between a yoga teacher and instructor is a big part of cultivating the self-discovery journey you want to take and how you intend to use the practice in your life.

Yoga is often one of the first elements that draws people in to beginning to understand and transform themselves even though it may not be the actual reason they think they need yoga. You might come to yoga seeking to touch your toes and end up changing your life instead.

You've heard me talk about setting intentions as a key step in being able to flow with life, but what does that actually look like and why does it even matter?

It was a New Moon yesterday, and the days surrounding a New Moon are ideal for setting intentions. Intentions are not so much things you want to add to your to-do list, but rather, a choice to move consciously towards doing something or creating a particular way of being in life; choosing how to approach or live out something.

They're about aligning with your highest good and choosing intentional actions to do so.

In today's episode, I'm going tell you:

🗸 What an Intention-setting Ritual is
🗸 Why you need it to flow with life
🗸 How to create your own intention-setting ritual

Blessed can be a sign that you hang on your wall, but isn't really thought of as much more than a decoration for others to see. But what would your life look like if you actually were putting that sign into action?

When you're trying to do all the things and stuck in "doing" mode, it can be real easy to begin to live in a trance of negativity or even blame because life feels so full and heavy.

An intentional gratitude practice can help. Gratitude is not only the practice of identifying blessings, but also actively honoring them.

Habits and rituals, two seemingly different words, but really tied very closely together, one just holds a little more power than the other.

The word "ritual" can make some people cringe. It can take your mind all sorts of places, but in this episode I invite you to consider looking at the word slightly differently.

Whether your in the "habits" camp or the "rituals" camp, or possibly even both camps, like I am, one thing is certain, being intentional about your habits is crucial in keeping exhaustion, overwhelm and burnout at bay.

Find out what "ritual" really means, and why it's not just a word for worshiping something.

Playing it safe means you aren't finding that edge in life that makes you the best version of yourself. But if adding one more thing to your list to take action on or try harder at seems overwhelming, rest assured, finding your edge doesn't always mean you have to do more.

This episode is a continuation of last week's episode in which I discussed what it means to find your "edge" and how to go about doing so. But when you're on a self-understanding journey, it's not about trying harder or doing more, but instead using intentionality in the way that you approach life and perhaps even shedding some things from your life in the meantime.

When your version of playing it safe is to keep busy all the time, here's how to better yourself without adding to your to-do list.

Flowing with your time, energy and focus even when unexpected things come up, doesn't just mean floating through life and letting life happen to you. On the contrary, it means intentionally becoming aware of those places that make you slightly uncomfortable then learning to adapt to them without going too far. Also known as finding your edge.

In this episode, I take you through a visualization to help you figure out how to identify your edge. I also talk about what it means to find your edge and how to know when you've gone beyond your edge.

Transitions are one of the toughest things both in life and on the yoga mat, yet you can indeed train yourself to make them easy and maybe even effortless. When approaching a transition, in order to get to the place of effortless action, there are three key things that I've discovered need to be intention placed around them.

Transitions are happening all the time--everyday moments to the larger times in life--job changes, menopause, retirement, adding children to your family, marriages. We also feel the pull of nature's transitions through the seasons, and the cosmic or astrological transitions with the moon and even the planets, so it's natural that they can sometimes feel clunky and awkward or frustrating and rigid rather than smooth and effortless, flowing. But it is possible to create a way of being that makes transitions more effortless, whether they are big or small and whether they are tangible or energetic.

Transitions are one of the toughest things both in life and on the yoga mat, but not necessarily for the reasons you might think.

This is the first episode in a 2-part series on making transitions effortless. We are constantly being faced with transitions, from the everyday moments like getting the kids out the door in the morning or moving through the highs and lows in your personal cycle, to the larger life experiences like retirement, having kids, marriage or menopause. And although transitions are necessary, they are one of the things that can make life feel more challenging than it has to be.

In this episode, I talk you through the real reason transitions can feel heavy and take you through a visualization to help you identify the process that happens when you are going through a transition.

Unconditional love means that we treat others, how we would want to be treated, not how we deserve to be treated, but how we would want to be treated. Yet, so often we unconsciously place expectations, limits, or conditions as you might call them on how we love others or how we treat others, including ourselves.

Unconditional love towards yourself means forgiveness. It means turning towards yourself and offering tenderness and nurturing--physically, mentally, emotionally and energetically--even we you think you don't deserve it. Even when you think you don't have the time or energy to offer that to yourself.

Being a do-it-all person means you know how to get stuff done, but it often comes at the expense of other things or people, yourself included.

For various reasons many of us, when we become adults, feel the need to do everything, but in all reality, there's a couple key elements that spur us to become "do-it-all" humans. And these things are all very closely related, and likely a product of trying to protect ourselves from the time we were young humans.

In this episode, my coach, Deb Blum, shares her take on what's behind your do-it-all nature.

I have a natural tendency to turn away from myself when life gets crazy around me. You might too...it's completely another way of numbing or checking out so we don't have to really feel anything. In times of stress or chaos, we revert back to our natural training, to what we can do on auto-pilot, and if you're like me, that means you're likely not really recognizing your feelings.

Your body craves routine. It has natural rhythms to remind you of that. But when routine stops, you move in this space of both freedom and chaos.

You have the freedom to do whatever you want, but without boundaries or established patterns of connection, the chaos around you nudges you to revert back to old habits and patterns.

Routine is so comforting, yet when you have to surrender to those times of being out of routine, you get a glimpse at what your natural tendencies are.

Even if you've been practicing a more conscious way of living for years, you might still have those moments when you fall back into old habits, it's just part of the journey.

And that's what I'm talking about in today's episode, along with the role yoga and your energetic rhythms play in this tendency to abandon self.

Work and Rest, two necessary phases of everything we do in life. Yet, in today's world, we often get stuck in the work mode, thinking that's the only way to productivity. But yoga teaches otherwise.

In yoga, you need both the postures that are going to challenge us and energize us as well as the postures that are going to quiet us and allow us to reflect inward. If you don't have a rhythm of these postures, you'll likely leave your yoga practice feeling out of sorts or either overly anxious or lethargic. But if the practice you do communicates a rhythm and a balance in what you're doing, you too, will feel that way.

In today's episode find out why who you are on the yoga mat is who you are off the yoga mat, even if you don't practice yoga.

Transitions get you from one thing to another, and naturally they may feel clunky, especially in the beginning. They are asking you to do something different than what your body and mind are comfortable doing.

From the time you are born until the time that you die you are faced with transitions of every kind in life. There's really no escaping them. They can be simple transitions like waking in the morning or more complex, like retiring from a 30+ year career. They all correspond to the rhythms of life, yet they aren't always fun or easy.

It's often those more complex transitions that we want to rush through to just hurry up and get to the other side because we know they are going to be tricky, but those are likely the ones you learn the most from; and that's what today's episode is all about.

Full moon time is an ideal time to begin clearing out the clutter in your life; and there just so happens to be one tomorrow!

With the holidays just over, you've likely got even more stuff now than you did before and you're trying to figure out where it's all going to go. But perhaps organization is what is needed, perhaps it's actually time to say goodbye to some of the things in your life that you really don't need taking up space or creating stagnant energy in your life and keeping you stuck or feeling overwhelmed.

Everything holds energy--inanimate and animate--and all energy has the potential to affect you. And when you fill the space of your home, desk, car, and life with physical things, all that energy impacts your mental and emotional health. But you likely may not even realize that until you begin to clear out the physical.

It's when you begin to clear out the physical clutter in your life, that the space to begin examining your inner clutter begins to reveal itself.

Krista Lockwood is a decluttering expert. She is a mom of 5 who helps other moms declutter without becoming a full blown minimalist!

In this episode we talk...

  1. How decluttering is the most basic level of support you can give yourself

  2. How decluttering impacts our energy/feelings

  3. Decluttering as a spiritual practice

Your mind and body are one, and not separate as we have been led to believe. What happens in one is a direct reflection of the other. And when it comes to dis-ease or discomfort in your physical body it's likely that the discomfort is trying to get you to pay attention to something in your mental or emotional awareness as well.

In today's episode, I share why discomforts or aches and pains are simply messengers your body uses to communicate with you. I also share how to begin to get in touch with what those messages are so that you can begin to free yourself from the aches and pains that you might be living with or could happen upon at any time in your life.

Discomfort is stuck energy; stuck energy can't flow, instead it builds up and causes dis-ease.

Your breath holds the profound ability to act as a mirror for your mental, emotional and energetic self. I'd even go as far as to say how you breathe is who you are as a person in any given moment.

Your breath is a powerful tool within you--your life force. It's the breath you received from God when you came into this world.

In this episode I talk briefly about the science of your breath and it's intended purpose for living, as well as how it impacts not only your physical, but also your mental, emotional and energetic self. I introduce you to the Maya Kosha Model, which is the yogic model that represents the path to end suffering through the layers or illusory sheaths that make up who we are as humans.

Awareness, like with all things is the first step when it comes to breathing or using breath control to change the way you're feeling at any given time. I'll talk you through some simple steps to become aware of your breath and give you a couple breath practices you can use today to begin to use breath as a tool to calm your nervous system.

Flowing with life doesn't just mean just moving in a straight line - it means moving WITH the ups and downs. Adapting. Allowing. Even when it feels icky and uncomfortable.

And that means you'll have days that feel heavy, even filled with anxiety.

These days often happen in the phase right before the end of an Energetic Rhythms cycle or right at the start of one. And everyone experiences them. And when you track your rhythms, you likely begin to see patterns in when they arrive.

And sometimes you don't. Sometimes these days of feeling heavy come with other life or astrological events.

Today I'm giving you permission to allow these days to happen and not feel guilty about them. To allow them and release the feelings of inadequacy that sometimes come along with them.

There's this thought out there that the word spiritual equals religion. That if someone says: Oh, she's really "spiritual," that it means she's devoted to Christ or that she's religious in some way.

It's simply untrue.

The word "spiritual" involves so much more than any one particular belief system or religion.

In this episode I breakdown the difference in being spiritual and being religious and share with you some ways you can invite spiritual practices into your life on a daily basis.

This is the final episode in a 4-part series about the phases of your Energetic Rhythms Cycle. Each phase plays a crucial role in helping you feel in flow with your time, energy and focus, and if even one phase is ignored, it can make life much harder than it needs to be. I've given you nuggets of how to implement each phase and an awareness of what challenges might arise within each phase.

This last phase of your Energetic Rhythms Cycle is all about completing and celebrating, and is just as essential to recognize and move through as the others, yet it's one of the most commonly ignored phases.

And when it's overlooked, it keeps you from actually completing a cycle and leaves you feeling the weight of whatever is left undone still hanging on you as you try to move forward in life.

When any one phase of your Energetic Rhythms Cycle is left out, life will inevitably feel harder, and you'll be more likely to feel scattered, overwhelmed and on the verge of burnout.

Listen in as I share how to complete the Energetic Rhythms Cycle so you can move into the next one without a ton of baggage.

There is in fact an ideal time to let go of things in life…whether it’s decluttering your home, your mind or your energy, or even simply putting yourself out there into the world and letting that part of you be seen, there is indeed a time for taking action on this sort of thing that aligns with your highest good, even if you embrace the "hustle" mentality. And it begins to happen in Phase 3 of your Energetic Rhythms Cycle.

When you learn to anticipate your highest energy times, you can truly get the most stuff done in your personal or work life without feeling like you’re hustling all the time.

This is part 3of a 4-part episode series defining the phases of your Energetic Rhythms. This phase aligns with the peak of your cycle and the beginning of a decline in your Energetic Rhythms for the cycle.

I'll tell you all about the characteristics of this cycle, why they matter to you and how you can move through the most common challenges of this phase of your Energetic Rhythms.

When you feel the shift in energy that comes after feeling an inward pull or lower emotional time, you could be moving into Phase 2 of your Energetic Rhythms Cycle; here's how you can maximize the energy you have so you remain focused and energetic with your time. This is the second episode in an 4-part series all about the phases of your Energetic Rhythms Cycle in which I'm breaking each phase down so you know what you can likely anticipate to experience in each phase.

If Phase 1 of your Energetic Rhythms Cycle, or Setting Intentions + Rest + Surrender, is like gathering the seeds of hope for what you want your life to look, sound and feel like, then Phase 2, Preparation + Growth, is the planting of the seeds and emergence that happens as you begin to move towards those intentions you set.

Your Energetic Rhythms show you exactly when to rest and when to take action so you don’t have to overthink life and work; yet, if you disregard even one phase of these rhythms, burnout, feeling scattered or perpetually stuck in life is bound to happen. The second phase of your Energetic Rhythms Cycle is often where those feelings originate.

Setting intentions is like gathering the seeds of hope for what you want your life to look, sound and feel like. You consciously gather them all up and decide it's time to plant them, then you put your trust in something greater than yourself to contribute in making them happen, no matter what that might look like.

This is the first of a 4-part series on the phases of your Energetic Rhythms. Each week I'll give you a little more insight into what happens in each phase and how you can use that phase to help you feel at ease and flow with your time, energy and focus even when unexpected things come up.

Using your energetic rhythms means you are using your body's rhythms and the moon's cycle to get stuff done so that you are flowing with life instead of feeling like you're constantly living life on the verge of burnout or cycling between burnout and feeling comfortable with life.

Setting intentions is the first step in doing just that...allowing yourself to recognize where you are and where you want to be instead then deciding to live in a way that aligns with that hope or intention. It is NOT goal-setting or making a to-do list of things to get done, but rather a way of deciding to practice living in a different way.

Your body is a messenger. At all times in your life, it's giving you cues as to how to live your life. Although, if you're unaware of this, you likely think that those aches, pains or discomforts are just your body's way of shutting down or aging when really they're signals of something deeper...and when you can tune into them, you may be giving yourself blessings beyond what you'd ever imagine. As is the case with my guest's story today.

Stacy Hart's journey with using her rhythms began when she and her husband couldn't get pregnant for the second time. Upon being prompted by a specialist to just begin tracking her cycle, she became pregnant. Only 2 years later, while remembering to do her monthly self-breast exam, she discovered a lump that changed her life.

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, listen in to Stacy's story and how knowing intimately her body's signals and rhythms helped her both create life and save her life.

Also, find out the best time of your cycle to do your self-breast exam and when the ideal time is to have that regular Pap Test.

When you get stuck in one energetic rhythms phase and miss the other phases that are necessary to live in flow with life even when unexpected things come up, you find yourself doing all the little things to just get by instead of doing the big things that ultimately help you listen to your inner guidance to take action and make all those little things even easier, or perhaps, make them drift away.

It's all perception and pat of the solution is choosing the things in life that will help you stop spinning your wheels in motion and get to actually take action on the things that matter. That's the difference in perpetually being in Phase 2 of your Energetic Rhythms vs. moving into Phase 3 so that you can eventually complete the cycle start over again, feeling as though you're living in flow with life instead of trying to paddle against the current.

When you feel chaotic, unsettled, or distracted and unable to focus, it’s necessary to have resources that you can call on to settle or ground back into yourself.

In last week’s episode I gave you permission to be in that space of distraction and chaos, and to just allow yourself to be there. It’s inevitable that there are going to be things in life that make you feel a little bonkers and scattered, but there are resources you have access to that can help so you feel at ease with your time, energy and focus when those unexpected things come up.

There are so many techniques out there that you can use to feel settled and reconnect with your highest self, but hands down, the best way I believe to do this, is yoga.

Yoga is the gateway to understanding yourself. It is the one tool that begins the process of connecting with your energetic rhythms and revealing your true emotional, mental and spiritual self.

And once you take that first step to getting back to them, it's OK to not be perfect or back to where you were when you stopped them.

So here's you big giant virtual hug telling you that you’re not a bad person if you’re struggling to get back to a habit that helps ground you. You're real. In this episode I share something you can do to help you get that motivation back.

Action-taking women are often described or judged as having more masculine tendencies that correlate with "doing," strength, being assertive, confidence, having a "take-charge" attitude, and maybe even being a bit tough or hardened; rather than taking on more what is thought of as feminine traits like softness, compassion, emotion, receiving, caretaking, and nurturing.

Those more masculine qualities are thought to align with the solar energy of the universe, whereas, the feminine qualities have been thought to align with the lunar energy of the universe. So does that mean that women should try to embody and embrace only lunar energy and men only solar energy?

Absolutely not!

We ALL have access to both solar and lunar qualities, and each needs to be nurtured and given space to thrive so that you're not living in the burnout cycle.

Burnout happens from only operating in the work-produce phases of productivity...only when trying to constantly mimic the solar masculine instead of embody the the idea that we have access to both the solar and lunar qualities...it doesn't have to be one or the other.

Have you ever told yourself you needed to be or act a certain way because of choices you've made in your life? Whether it's your career, relationship or place you live, you've likely put yourself into a metaphorical box of some sort at some time or another. You may be there now!

But you don't have to remain there. You can indeed take your power back and start living into your full capacity so that you are in fact doing what lights you up in life.

Recently I had a realization that I had been giving my power away.

Which meant that I had not been embodying my full potential. I had been making myself small in spirit, believe it or not.

I know this stems from a wounded inner child. I’ve done work with my inner child and know that there are things she struggles with, just like yours does as well. And it takes conscious work to go back and help heal that inner child in order to move through some of those mindset patterns and beliefs that we grow accustomed to.

I also know it is no longer serving me.

When there's an imbalance in the masculine and feminine energy because of protection mechanisms the inner child developed, it's likely you are giving you power away in ways you may not even be aware of.

Masculine and feminine energy goes deeper than just the masculine and feminine, though. Yes, we need both, AND there are smaller elements or phases that make up each. This is where the solar and lunar qualities of both the feminine and the masculine come in.

Just like the positive and negative ends of a battery must be clear and connected in order for the battery to work properly, you have both feminine and masculine energy within you that must be nurtured and balanced in order for you to work at your highest potential.

And if both of these qualities aren't acknowledged, and one is perhaps stronger than the other, you'll likely have issues in your physical, mental and emotional bodies. Issues that lead to things like burnout, lack of focus, anxiety, and irritability if your masculine energy is too powerful; and issues like lethargy, co-dependency, anxiety, and inaction if your feminine is the stronger of the two.

But sometimes knowing what your feminine and masculine energy each look like is the first challenge. And once you define them, you can easily tap into one or the other through any number of ways so that when you step into your feminine energy you can still invite the masculine to be a part of you, but in a more balanced way.

Comparison = Inadequacy {no matter what}.

When you start down the path of living more intentionally to avoid burnout, it can be tough to shed things that have felt so "normal" for so long. Like the hustle to "keep up with the Jones's."

You may have urges to try harder even when you know you know your body wants to slow down. You can feel super inadequate at times because the world around you isn't necessarily slowing down...but you have made the conscious choice, set the intention even, to begin to use another source for informing your life instead of comparison.

Enter: your inner guidance--the higher knowing or voice of God within you calling you to act.

Why comparison and trying to "keep up with the Jones'" is actually one of the fastest ways to burnout, but that it's still part of the journey no matter what phase of it you're on.

Letting go is a necessary part of life; and in fact, it's a necessary part of the Energetic Rhythms cycle. But it's not always easy. When you hold onto things in life you don't allow space for the new, the fresh and the vital to enter.

In today's episode I interview my former pastor, Dave Weesner, to talk letting go during life's transitions and how they impact you.

There are times when our lives dictate change and it's out of our control that we have to make a change in life. Case in point, the pandemic.

Then there are times when we know we need to let go of something, but it seems too hard and painful to do so, so we continue to hold on, remaining in the comfort (or discomfort) of what we know to be familiar. As in the case of remaining in a relationship that may not be serving your best interest anymore.

Yet with both instances, one factor remains that must be present in order to fully let go and move through the transition.

Trust.

Trust that all things are connected. And the letting go is just as important as the planting of the seed and work to nurture and grow that seed.

Dave is a retired United Methodist Church pastor, forever learner and much more.

Vacations are meant to be refreshing so that you return to life with a renewed energy. But what about when they are so exhausting it takes you as long as you were gone to recover? It doesn't have to be the latter. I want you to be able to return from a vacation or trip without feeling like you need to take a vacation from your vacation.

Listen in as I share my reflections on what didn't work with a recent vacation we took and what I learned from it so that you can begin to look at vacations in the same way.

Why this matters to you...

You were created or designed to be cyclical. And when you live in alignment with your rhythms and work with them instead of against them, you complete a cycle for everything you do and you move out of distraction, chaos and burnout and into focus, balance and optimal productivity...or play!

You can begin tracking your own personal rhythms with the Daily Rhythms Tracker so you don't have to overthink life and know exactly when to work and when to rest not only on vacation, but in your daily life as well.

Society trains us to think of our lives as a linear...we're born, we set goals, we work to achieve them (or not), then die. It also trains us to think of productivity in this way...take action, take action, take action...

But what if that weren't really the way life worked? What if you had permission to think of life differently...to think of it in a way that actually gives you permission to not live in the work-produce mode of operation that leaves you either feeling burnt out or stuck more often than you care to admit, but rather honors the natural rhythms that are around you in every day life? That's what cyclical living is all about and it's what I'm talking about in today's episode.

When you transition to a cyclical living way of thinking and being, these issues of being stuck and burnt out resolve. Instead you honor the 4 phases of your energetic rhythms, just like nature is doing all around you, and move out of distraction, chaos, and burnout and into optimal productivity, balance, and focus, without giving up their action-oriented nature.

Begin practicing a cyclical way of living with some easy steps you can take today to change the way you approach projects and life.

After a 2 year break, I'm back to podcasting and excited to share with you what I've been up to since we last shared this space.

For 7 years I practiced 1 style of yoga and taught 1 style of yoga, primarily. And that’s what I taught many of my listeners for years, and what you heard me talk a lot about when I started this podcast. But for the past 2 years I have been shifting. Shifting the style of yoga I practice now and shifting the way I serve beautiful souls like you.

In this episode I tell you all about this transition that I made into teaching my own style of yoga and how I am now helping overachieving women with overcommitting tendencies use their body's rhythms and/or the moon's cycle to shift out of distraction, chaos, and burnout and into optimal productivity, balance, and focus, without giving up their action-oriented nature.

I primarily do this through 1:1 virtual or in-person sessions, in the Energetic Rhythms for Intentional Living Facebook Community, and through online courses that have a coaching component. And I'd love to work with you! I have a couple openings on my calendar right now for clarity calls to see if any of these would be a good fit for you. So if it's something you'd like to learn more about, email me at cathy@cairnyogawellness.com to schedule a quick clarity call.

Science has proven that plants release natural chemicals that can improve immune function, mood + stress levels. Crystal Berkenes shares what Nature Therapy is and how she combines it with music for health + what to expect from forest bathing.

You may know from experience that being in nature feels therapeutic, but did you know there is actual scientific evidence that spending time in nature can affect you at a cellular level by helping your immune system and nervous system?

Taking a walk in nature is not the same as taking a walk down a city street. There are natural chemicals released by plants that actually have a positive impact on your physical well-being.

Enter Nature Therapy. Also called Forest Bathing or Shinrin-Yoku, it’s inspired by a Japanese practice of spending time in nature that “enhances health, wellness and happiness” according to the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy Guides.

In today’s episode I’m talking with Certified Nature Therapy Guide Crystal Berkenes who is also a Music Therapist and combines the 2 practices to create an experience for participants that can actually be health-changing.

Then share what your experience here is in our Cultivating Health Harmony and Happiness Community. I want to know what you did and if you noticed any differences emotionally or mentally, or perhaps if your sleep was different on the night or nights following your nature therapy.

We all have different communication styles that we tend to gravitate towards, and even though we may be speaking the same language, sometimes our needs, wants and desires get lost in translation when it comes to our relationships. Katie Rössler gives tips on how to overcome this communication breakdown and instead build positive connections.

We discuss healthy arguing strategies as well as how to get back into the flow of communicating with your spouse or partner. Life is always happening around us, and it takes patience and practice to remember to be present for your spouse. And when this intentionality is in place, you can begin to create healthy habits around communicating more effectively while having fun with it.

Katie and I talk perceived gender roles + how those perceptions come into play with creating communication barriers. Learn how to bring your family together to overcome these barriers so that everyone is on the same page. Katie shares her outline for a successful family meeting and what a good age is to invite your kids to be a part of those family meetings. Loneliness is a signal or indicator that something in life needs to change--it’s a feeling, which can make it hard to detect. And if not addressed, it can potentially have negative health side effects in the way of chronic illness and decreased lifespan.

Loneliness actually affects nearly half the U.S. population NOT during a pandemic, so I can imagine that right now these numbers are indeed heightened. I’m speaking with Amie Zarling today, a Clinical Psychologist and assistant professor at Iowa State University who has done extensive work on social connectedness and how to seek out authentic relationships.

In honor of Mother's Day, I'm sharing a compilation of reflective blog posts I wrote after my first child was born. Some of my parenting philosophies have changed, but these personal essays reveal the emotional struggle of a new mom with a colicky baby. My son, who is my firstborn, was a challenging baby to say the least. We spent hours soothing him. And it was during this time that I began a little blog called Counting My LITTLE Blessings. It was a way for me to deal with the emotions I was experiencing being a new mom and navigating postpartum with a fussy baby and a husband who was away for work much of the time.

Since writing these posts, I have grown so much and learned so much as a mother and person. I have no doubt changed over the past 6 years and continue to do so. And now a mama of 3 littles, life sure is different. We are still in the weeds, as all mamas and daddy’s are when you’re kids are young and so dependent on you, but the advice and perspectives I share in these posts are worth revisiting as we approach Mother’s Day.

If you are a mom to someone, keep doing what you’re doing. You’re making a difference in a child’s life, no matter how hard it can be at times. Inspire those around you and they, too, will inspire others.

Water quality goes much beyond just our drinking water; it’s also the source of recreation for many, so keeping it clean means it will be safe for your family to boat, swim and play near as you reconnect with nature this Spring and Summer. Ingrid Gronstal of the Iowa Environmental Council and I continue our discussion of where water pollution comes from and how each one of us can be a part of contributing to safer waterways.

Ingrid shares the 3 main sources of water pollution and her thoughts on how waterways could be an avenue for resiliency in the state after disasters such as COVID-19. By creating spaces near water to encourage people to get out into nature, be active, shop or socialize, it increases the likelihood that water would be seen more as a resource to be valued and taken care of while encouraging economic growth.

She emphasizes that it is a joint effort and that farmers also need the support to continue agriculture practices as it is such a large part of our economy in Iowa, so it’s important to have programs in place that also encourage farmers to care for the land that impacts the waterways.

Highlights:
{5:55} How nutrient pollution affects recreational waters
{8:21} Why the water is toxic when algae blooms occur
{10:31} Bacteria in the water
{11:15} Algae blooms and your pets

Get rid of a single-use mindset and begin to consider that reducing the amount of stuff you live with or deem necessary at this point in life means that you’ll be living a more sustainable lifestyle and having less of an impact on the environment around you. Which in the long run means your children and their children will have a planet to care for as well.

Today I sit down with Stephanie Seferian of the Sustainable Minimalists Podcast. Stephanie is an expert in sustainability, zerowaste and minimalism. She offers simple strategies to reduce clutter and live more intentionally in an effort to save our planet. And by offering these insights, she encourages opportunities to more fully enjoy the simple joys that life brings.

An eco-friendly lifestyle brings with it the simplicity of living with less stuff, which in turn, creates more space to invite opportunities to cultivate health, harmony and happiness with your family. It is something my family strives to do and is continually learning how to do. But when we teach our children at a young age how to do these things, it become second nature for them and there’s no question as to whether or not to do them. The hope is that there is education behind why we do them so as to inspire others to take baby steps and implement similar changes in their own lifestyle so that our planet can continue to thrive.

With being around your home a bit more these days, we are inevitably creating more waste at home, but there are some things you can do to reduce the waste that goes to the landfill. Today I share with you what my family does to live more eco-friendly and reduce the amount of waste we are putting back into the environment.

Your environmental or ecological footprint is a measure of how much you are impacting the environment based on how many resources you use or take from the environment and the amount of non-renewable waste you are putting back into the environment. So by consciously making choices that reduce or eliminate some of this non-renewable waste, you are giving back to the environment to preserve the one planet we have and its resources.

The start of April brings with it the anticipation of Earth Day towards the end of the month and encourages us to begin to shift our focus toward our own environmental impact and new growth. There’s a few simple steps you can take in your own home to create less waste and give back to the planet.

Connection is necessary now more than ever. At a time when we are being told to physically isolate from others, that connection is crucial; not only with others, but also with God. And this energetic connection that we have with people can transcend social distancing.

Yet remaining connected while social distancing involves also managing the energy you give and receive from others. On an energetic or spiritual level we are human, but we are also divinely connected by some greater force--God, spirit, universal energy--whatever you call it, living in both capacities as fully human and fully divine can take some conscious awareness and effort to find a balance between the 2.

This relationship between being both fully human and experiencing life as we do--joy, sorrow, pain, peace--and being fully divine--created by God and connected to everything--is what my guest, Melissa Harris, and I talk about in this week's episode.

Learn a simple practice you can do to help you avoid taking on someone else's energy that could negatively impact you. A visualization technique that allows you to filter both the energy you give and receive.

This week I talk with Dr. Valerie Bonnett about balancing hormones in all stages of life, particularly mid-life and beyond.  She shares how taking a tissue-level test is the ideal way to measure hormones in your body and some indicators as to what an imbalance of estrogen and progesterone and testosterone in your body may look like.

Your gym is the environment, your machine is the body.  Farmer Gym specializes in online strength and conditioning training that requires little to no equipment for your body {and mind} to grow strong.  Jason Harle, an Iowa native, speaks to how the qualities of integrity and consistency that are learned on the farm are 2 of the primary beliefs his gym has for helping individuals do the work to get results with their workouts. Farmer Gym takes core elements that are learned through the grit of working on a farm which builds strong character through hard work and translates them into workout programs that build these same qualities mentally and physically. Mindset isn't just how your brain functions and what is going on within your mind. It's your "head mind" + "heart mind" that make you whole, and Yoga Mind® is a practice that gives you insight into how these both help release emotions stored in your body.

In this week’s episode of Health Harmony and Happiness with Cathy, I visit this concept and much more with Dr. Diana Quach, licensed clinical psychologist and founder of Yoga Mind®.  A yoga practice that allows you to embrace who you are as a person and gives you insight into the areas of the body that are holding painful memories and emotions that you carry with you.

Mindset goes well beyond the beliefs we have created in our minds, be they limiting or expansive; it incorporates not only your “head mind,” but also your “heart mind” in order to make you a whole and complete functioning person.

Dianna’s professional take on how we process emotions within the body leads to a powerful practice that she is beginning to share with the world.

From becoming a raw vegan to being OK with enjoying those nachos every once in a while, Sheree Clark of Fork in the Road shares her journey with food, practicing Adamantine® Yoga and helping others as a mid-life courage coach. Find out how with just 2 weeks shy of being completely raw vegan for 1 entire year, she accidentally made a mistake that caused her to miss hitting her goal. And how she beautifully recovered and what she learned from her actions.

Get Sheree’s take on setting boundaries for yourself not only with food, but also with life habits, as well as making conscious decisions around food. Food is more than nourishment—it’s community, communion, celebration, and comfort; so being able to have a healthy relationship with it is critical.

Self-sabotage related to food and the prisons we create for ourselves is a normal part of life, and learning how to recognize it and cope when it does happen will inevitably help you get closer to ridding yourself of it. Reframing your thoughts and mindset so that what happens to you or the choices you make are part of your story rather than something to beat yourself up over is one way to start this process.

Born out of the need to bring healing to her own family, Jess Ramaeker trained as a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner with the goal of reconnecting people to healing foods & vibrant health.

Ridding your body of inflammation and healing it with food starts first with knowing what foods could trigger that inflammatory response, then how to shop the grocery store.

As a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, Jess Ramaeker brings this message to light and shares simple ways to change the way we grocery shop and consider what common types of foods could be causing inflammation in your body.  Food can be used as medicine as I discussed in last week’s episode with Kate Brown of BRAISED Bone Broth Company.  It’s a matter of thinking about food and the ailments of our bodies a bit differently.  How one impacts the other and what can be changed in your diet to help you feel better overall.

From motherhood to entrepreneurship to functional nutrition, Kate Brown - owner BRAISED Bone Broth Co. - shares how bone broth is a lifestyle habit and how the craft of making bone broth stems from a rich family history of living in a soup culture. Bone broth isn't just a fad nutrition gimmick that promises a lot then is quickly forgotten after a year or 2.  And bringing someone chicken soup when they are ill or have been outside in the cold is not just because it's warm and comforting. True bone broth actually has healing properties. With the rise of the "slow food movement," where the idea is to eat less to receive enough nutrition, bone broth is truly a staple for healing the body.  And it's where food becomes medicine.

The option to have a Vaginal Birth After Cesarean (VBAC) is rarely given to mamas these days, so I'm sharing my my experience in choosing to try for a VBA2C (After 2 Cesareans), and how I went about helping my physical and mental bodies to make it happen.  Some methods I used to prepare for a Trial of Labor After Cesarean (TOLAC) are not necessarily "normal," but had a profound effect on not only my mindset in approaching this method of delivery but the outcome of my labor and delivery.

I want mamas out there to know that they have may have another choice in how they birth future babies if they’ve had a C-section that wasn’t really what they went into labor and delivery expecting.  I was told by a Dr. that it wasn't possible for me to have a vaginal delivery, but I chose not believe him. I chose to listen to my woman's intuition instead.
