Roxie Releasing released Man Bites Dog to theaters on January 15, 1993. Rémy Belvaux, André Bonzel, and Benoît Poelvoorde directs the film which stars Benoît Poelvoorde, Jacqueline Pappaert, and Nelly Pappaert.

Man Bites Dog Movie Summary C’est arrivé près de chez vous or as they say in ‘Murican, Man Bites Dog, is a French film written by Rémy Belvaux, directed by Rémy Belvaux, André Bonzel and Benoît Poelvoorde. It stars the three men as well – talk about a vanity project! It was released on September 12, 1992 at the Toronto Film Festival and then a month later in NYC.

The film documents the adventures of the very charming French serial killer, Ben, by a group of film students. It’s your standard university-type black and white film where we learn all about Ben’s life from his sweet working class family at the shop they own. The good boy they know is a stark contrast with the misogynistic xenophobe Ben really is.

Along the way, we learn how Ben picks the people he kills, watch him ruthlessly kill them, and casually dispose of the bodies. Along the way, the film crew gets drawn into the lifestyle as they go from documenters to participants in rape and murder.

In the end, Ben’s killing catches up with him and he is jailed for murder. He escapes, but finds his entire family and girlfriend have been killed by the brother of a victim he killed. As Ben plans his next move, he and the film crew too are killed one after the other by this man. The camera falls to the ground and captures the recordist getting shot in the back and falling to the ground.

The film grossed $206,000 domestically, and won the SACD award at the 1992 Cannes Film Festival for Best Feature and the Special Award of the Youth for directors Rémy Belvaux, André Bonzel and Benoît Poelvoorde. Rotten Tomatoes critics give it a 75% and audiences give it a 91%.

Warner Bros released Kiss Kiss Bang Bang to theaters on November 18, 2005. Shane Black directed the film starring Robert Downey Jr., Val Kilmer, and Michelle Monaghan.

‘Kiss Kiss Bang Bang’ Movie Summary While at a party in Los Angeles, Harry Lockhart recounts the recent events that brought him to LA…

Back in New York, Harry and his partner flee a botched robbery. In an alley, a witness shoots Harry in the arm, and he runs off; leaving his partner in the alley. He evades the police pursuit when he stumbles into an audition. The producers mistake Harry’s remorse for getting his partner shot as method acting. This gets Harry a screen test as a detective in a film in Los Angeles.

On day one, Harry is at a Hollywood party. There, he meets private investigator Gay Perry who’s going to teach Harry a thing or two about being a PI. Coincidentally, Harry’s childhood crush, Harmony Lane, is there. They hang out at a bar for a bit, but he wakes up the next morning in bed with her friend instead of her. This leads him to go to her place the next morning at 6am to apologize. It does not go well.

Stage 6 Films released The Final Girls to theaters on October 9, 2015. Todd Strauss-Schulson directed the film starring Taissa Farmiga, Malin Åkerman, and Adam Devine.

‘The Final Girls’ Movie Summary While Max Cartwright waits in her car for her mother, Amanda, to return from an audition, she watches a movie trailer on her phone. The film is a 1986 slasher called Camp Bloodbath which Amanda starred in back in the day. While the movie is now a cult classic, Amanda has trouble finding new roles because she’s been typecast as the scream queen named Nancy from Camp Bloodbath. As the two drive home from the audition, a car hits them, and kills Amanda, dead.

Fast forward three years, and Max now lives with her Aunt. She meets her BFF, Gertie, and a boy named Chris, whom she’s smitten with, at a diner to study the Classics. Gertie’s annoying stepbrother, Duncan, pops in, and interrupts the trio. He’s a huge horror fan, and he asks Max to go to the night’s double feature at the local theater of Camp Bloodbath and its sequel, Camp Bloodbath 2: Cruel Summer. Since it’s the anniversary of her mother’s death, she reluctantly agrees to attend.

Later that night at the theater, Chris shows up to join Max and Gertie…and to share his popcorn covered in M&Ms. While Max’s happy Chris came, she’s unhappy that Chris’ ex-girlfriend, Vicki, shows up as well. Vickie and Max were once BFFs too, but they drifted apart shortly after Amanda’s death.

During the film, one of the audience members, sitting towards the back, drops a full bottle of open vodka which rolls to the bottom of the theater while spilling all its contents before shattering at the front of the theater. Then that same guy lights up a cigarette, because theaters let only him smoke in there, and one of his ashes falls to the ground; igniting the alcohol, and the theater goes up in flames.

Pandora Cinema released Donnie Darko to theaters on October 26, 2001. Richard Kelly directed the film starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Jena Malone, and Mary McDonnell.

‘Donnie Darko’ Movie Summary None of this is straightforward so here we go for a comparative breakdown.

Opening to the sound of thunder, we see a young adult lying in the middle of a road. He wakes and gets up. Smiling, he rides his bike home through suburbia.

Over dinner, we meet the Darko family, and find out Donnie has stopped taking his meds which we see later on in the bathroom; right next to Old Spice splash-on. Ultimately, this means trouble.

Imaginary or not, Frank, is a man-sized bunny rabbit who wakes Donnie from his slumber; encouraging a sleepwalk out of the house towards the local golf course. There, Frank begins his mysterious confessions about The End.

Randomly, an aircraft engine lands on-top of Darko’s roof, and slams into Donnie’s bedroom. Thanks to Frank, Donnie was not in bed, and nobody else was hurt.

Authorities won’t let the family discuss what happened, or give any further information. They treat the family to a stay at the local Holiday Inn while contractors fix their house up (and as the investigation continues).

Donnie visits his doctor on a regular basis as she delves into his imaginary world teetering into reality.

Paramount Pictures released Vertigo to theaters on May 9, 1958. Alfred Hitchcock directed the film starring James Stewart, Kim Novak, and Barbara Bel Geddes.

‘Vertigo’ Movie Summary Detective, John “Scottie” Ferguson, narrowly survives a near fall from a rooftop that results in the death of a fellow officer. From this tragedy, he develops vertigo and retires.

Soon, an old college buddy, Gavin Elster, comes a knocking, and asks Scottie to follow his wife, Madeleine because he thinks she’s a danger to herself. Scottie agrees to help, and follows her all around San Francisco until she comes to the Legion of Honor art museum. There, the Portrait of Carlotta enchants Madeleine for hours.

Scottie learns the girl in the portrait committed suicide after having a child with a wealthy married man who then ostracized her; keeping their baby. Gavin believes Carlotta now possesses his wife Madeleine because she is Carlotta’s great-granddaughter.

After more tailing of Madeleine’s lovely tail, they wind up at Fort Point where Madeleine jumps into the bay in a suicide attempt, but Scottie rescues her.

The next day, the two end up spending the day together. Madeleine tells Scottie of her dream about the childhood home of Carlotta at the Mission San Juan Bautista. So Scottie drives her there, and the two end up professing their love for each other. Then, in a spinning, blustery whirl, Madeleine races into the church, up the bell tower, and jumps to her death.

Scottie takes chase, and tries to stop her, but that damned acrophobia keeps him from following her to the top. While Gavin doesn’t blame Scottie for his wife’s death, Scottie becomes clinically depressed with a case of the melancholies.

Eventually, the sanatorium releases Scottie, who then roams the streets; retracing the places Madeleine often visited. Eventually, he spots and stalks a woman in green that reminds him of Madeleine.

That woman is Judy Barton from Salina, Kansas, and via a flashback scene, we learn that Gavin paid Judy to impersonate the late Madeleine Elster. Judy writes Scottie a confession, but then tears up the letter, and continues on her charade.

Scottie’s obsession with Madeleine consumes him. He forces Judy to change her clothing, her makeup, her hairstyle, her carpet, her drapes; her everything…eventually, you can’t even tell the two apart.

However, one night, as the pair get ready to leave for dinner, Judy puts on a necklace; the exact same necklace Carlotta wears in the painting. Suddenly, Scottie realizes the truth; Judy was Gavin’s mistress, and Gavin dumped her after he no longer had use for her…just like that wealthy married man who dumped Carlotta in her sad, sad story.

Scottie snaps!

He drives Judy to the very mission that Madeleine killed herself where he tells Judy that he’s figured everything out. Manically, he forces her to the top of the bell tower; thus conquering his fear of heights.

Judy frantically confesses her part in the scheme, and begs Scottie for forgiveness.

Their commotion attracts the attention of a nun who comes to see what the ado is all about. Startled by the nun’s appearance, Judy falls off the bell tower to her death as Scottie looks on without emotion, and that is Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo!

Magnet Releasing released Tucker and Dale vs Evil to theaters on January 22, 2010. Eli Craig directed the film starring Tyler Labine, Alan Tudyk, and Katrina Bowden.

‘Tucker and Dale vs Evil’ Movie Summary Tucker and Dale vs Evil starts with a group of college kids camping in the Appalachian Mountains of West Virginia. On a pit stop to get beer, the girls meet Tucker and Dale; two down-to-earth hillbillies that just bought a vacation house nearby. Dale becomes smitten with one of the girls, a hottie name Allison, but he ends up creeping her out. He has an inferiority complex, and his looks (along with a large scythe he’s holding) gets in the way.

The kids scamper off, and set up camp. Douchebag Chad tells the group a scary story about the “Memorial Day Massacre” that took place 20 years earlier in the very forest they are in where psychotic hillbillies like the two they just encountered attacked and killed everyone.

DreamWorks released Galaxy Quest to theaters on December 25, 1999. Dean Parisot directs the film which stars Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, and Alan Rickman.

‘Galaxy Quest’ Movie Summary Galaxy Quest is a cancelled fictional TV show where space is the final frontier. One day, at one of their conventions filled with the usual space geeks, Jason Nesmith, the fictional commander of the NSEA Protector, is greeted by Thermians from the Klaatu Nebula. They need the commander’s help to negotiate peace with Sarris, a lizard-warrior hellbent on destroying the Thermians. Thinking this is just another acting gig, Jason agrees to “help.”

The Thermians take Jason to a fully functional replica of his TV ship; as smart as they are, they are unable to separate fact from fiction, and boy are they fucked! Jason has the alien crew fire at Sarris’ ship and thinking his acting job is done, requests to go home. Once home, he realizes that not only wasn’t it an acting job, but the aliens were real, and he’s now royally pissed off Sarris.

Jason gets the rest of his TV crew to help him fight Sarris, and to keep his hands off the mysterious Omega 13 that was introduced in the show’s last episode, and also which the Thermians replicated. Alexander Dane is his ship’s alien science officer, Fred Kwan the chief engineer, Gwen DeMarco is the computer officer, and Tommy Webber the ship’s now grown up child pilot. Throw in Guy Fleegman who played an unnamed security officer that got killed off in an episode, and you have no help for the Thermians!

Along the way, the space actors somehow manage to fit into their roles, and fight off Sarris and his henchmen; saving the Thermians, but they needed a lot of help from those space geeks at the convention.

Touchstone Pictures released The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou to theaters on December 25, 2004. Wes Anderson directed the film starring Bill Murray, Owen Wilson, and Anjelica Huston.

The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou Movie Summary After a jaguar shark kills Steve Zissou’s best friend, he sets out to avenge his buddy’s death. Unfortunately, Team Zissou is running low on funds, so they can’t go on another expedition until they find an investor to give them money.

Kentucky pilot, Ned Plympton, arrives to meet Zissou one day; believing he is Zissou’s son. Ned offers to finance the expedition using his inheritance from his recently deceased mother.

Pregnant reporter, Jane Winslett-Richardson, joins Team Zissou’s latest voyage to chronicle their journey. Although Zissou declares dibs on Jane, Ned falls for her and her book-reading skills.

To aid in their journey, Team Zissou steals equipment from their rival, Alistair Hennessey. The trip takes the team into unprotected waters where Filipino pirates kidnap their bond-company stooge, Bill Ubell. Hennessey rescues the stranded team in the middle of nowhere, and tows them to port.

Many of the crew bail on Zissou at this point, but his ex-wife Eleanor joins them so they can rescue the bond-company stooge. She reveals to Jane that Zissou shoots blanks, and has always shot blanks. Therefore, Zissou and Ned aren’t related.

Later, Ned and Zissou take to the air to look for the shark. They use an old, dilapidated helicopter which promptly crashes into the ocean; killing Ned.

After Ned’s funeral, what’s left of Team Zissou finally tracks down the jaguar shark inside a submersible, but I wouldn’t really call it a submarine. Zissou decides not to kill the shark, partly because it’s not right to kill it, and partly because he used all his dynamite on the pirates.

The film ends with the successful premiere of Zissou’s documentary of the trip, and then Team Zissou pays tribute to “The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension” with a walking montage to close it all out.
