Also, you'll notice the sound's a little different. I recorded this while waiting outside my son's school to pick him up, so there is some road noise. And at 91 degrees and the car windows rolled up, there's some extra mouth noise as I got progressively dehydrated!

While breathing may be involuntary, often our breath can feel held, difficult, or just not natural. There are many times when an easy breath may not feel available to us. On the other hand, there are times when our mental or emotional state feels stuck, difficult, or just not natural. Often, being able to take a moment to connect with our breath can impact our mental and emotional state positively. The mind/body link, as relates to the breath, is powerful. You are invited into a practice to notice the breath in three parts as it moves in and out of the body. Even if you find your breath is held, difficult, or just not natural, you can join in by just imagining the breath moving in the three places we’ll explore in this episode. It is my hope that with a gentle invitation to explore the breath, we can all find our way to a natural breath and settled mind.

It's fall! (Well, in the northern hemisphere, anyway.) Let's use the prompt of nature in her changing season to explore our senses, and the stories we have about those sensory experiences.
Pumpkin Smoothie Recipe
1/2 cup pumpkin puree
1 serving vanilla protein powder
1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
1 inch fresh ginger root
5 ounces milk/milk substitute
spices to taste: cinnamon, nutmeg, clove - or use a pumpkin spice blend
Place all ingredients in blender and whirl until smooth. To make it more shake-like, measure the pumpkin and yogurt into a freezer-safe container and freeze for a few hours or overnight.

We continue with the theme of: Reinforce, Shore Up, To Support. This week, we work with practices to support the breath. The breath, which comes to us without thinking, can also support our physical, emotional, and mental well-being. In drawing attention to the breath, we can begin to unlock this powerful force within us.

For the month of August, we are going to be working with the theme of Reinforce. Yoga can be practiced in so many places - for example, at a traffic light, when a gaggle of geese keeps an entire line of cars waiting through two cycles of the light. In this meditation, great for beginners, we practice patience - because patience is absolutely an ongoing practice. It is in a regular, ongoing yoga & meditation practice that we can cultivate more patience, more ease, and more creativity.

This week we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the lunar landing. Today's practice marks that anniversary through a Yoga Lunar Launch. This gentle physical yoga practice explores side bending and lengthening to support easeful breath, leg strengthening, and balancing to work on our playfulness (and our core). Join me and launch to the yoga moon! You will need a blanket or towel. You may need a chair or a yoga block (or an equivalent prop, like a book). What to do with these things is explained before the practice begins.

On this week when we, in the United States, are celebrating Independence Day - while simultaneously seeming anything but united in our political discourse - I considered what my role, as a yoga and meditation teacher, could be during this time of conversational crisis. This is a metta-style meditation practice that I have found very supportive of how I want to engage with people in my own life.

Halfway through 2019, let's take stock of our goals and our accomplishments as we practice peeling off being busy and what it feels like to sit still and listen to our inner wisdom.
Happy Summer! The Summer Solstice, on Friday, June 21st, also International Yoga Day, is a day many yoga practitioners do 108 sun salutations. Traditional sun salutations can be challenging if you are new to yoga. I lead you through two rounds of this beginner- friendly sequence. You can see pictures here & video of the sequence here. Enjoy!
To stretch the back and side body, the pose Janu Sirsasana has been in my personal practice frequently lately. Also called Head to Knee pose, this is a short sequence of three poses for anyone to enjoy the benefits of this shape - whether your head reaches your knee or not.
Sometimes events happen that cause us to stop and see with new eyes what a gift each new day is. What if we could cultivate that same gratitude in our daily lives? A meditation on gratitude.
Finding our deep core with a meditation and breathing exercise to explore the front of the spine.
In a yoga class, everybody's body looks a little different in the shape - the pose, or asana. Rather than comparing your body's shape with the teacher's or students' bodies, learn to tune into the radio station of your body's experience. Cultivating an awareness of what you are feeling within your body, and how it moves in space, helps you to be more present with yourself and with others.

Still in the forest! Join Clara and the birds of the Pisgah National Forest, near Asheville, North Carolina, in a movement practice that is supportive for times of traveling, sitting for long periods, or times of feeling generally displaced. Videos of each portion of the practice are available at http:www.clara-harris.com/podcast-videos-episode-05. This gentle yoga practice is appropriate for beginners and all levels.
Traveling can be stressful, even under the best circumstances, even when you are excited about the trip. Sitting for long periods of time is tough on the body, and being in out of routine and away from your norms can be disconcerting mentally and emotionally. Today a meditation and breathing practice for travelers is offered. Even if you are not traveling, this meditation and breathing practice is helpful for times of feeling displaced - whether at home or away.
This episode brought to you from the middle of the Pisgah National Forest, near Asheville, North Carolina. Birdsong is authentic. Enjoy!

In celebration of a week encompassed by Earth Day, on one end, and Arbor Day, on the other, Clara offers a practice that explores how our bodies reflect the natural world. The episode begins with the physical practice, the meditation & breathing practice begins around 19:15. For Tree Pose (Vrksasana) reference photos, go to clara-harris.com/podcast-pictures-episode-03.
While listening to a podcast about photography workflow, Clara noticed a guest make a very yogic observation: by choosing the quick & speedy way of doing things, we force our future selves to spend the time we are unwilling to spend in the present. We're choosing (often unconsciously) to punish our future self for a minor gain in the present. Clara shares a meditation practice that can help us notice that, and begin to shift our way of thinking about "saving time."
Ah, spring! The birds, the blooms, the... pollen. Clara shares three yoga poses and a brief meditation to support you during this time of seasonal allergies.
For the visual learners in the group, see photos of the poses on Clara's website.
A yoga & meditation podcast for people who can't touch their toes...and those who can. Yoga with Clara, dropping every Wednesday.
