The Soccer Don Departs, Poch Stays, and Sims Speaks
Don Garber’s tenure as MLS Commissioner will come to an end on January 1, 2027. As the league enters the next phase of its growth and development with the calendar change, they will do so with a new leader at the helm, Larry Berg.
This week the guys discuss the big headlines in the US Soccer world and give their thoughts on the frustrating draw for NYCFC at home against Toronto.
There’s also clips from Brad Sims as he addressed the media on Monday and post game reactions from Matt Freese and James Sands.
Winning!
After a two month hiatus NYCFC returned to the pitch battered, bruised and hungry. The injury bug left nine players unavailable for the two games this past week, but for those that stayed healthy, it was an incredible two games, most notably for Augustin Ojeda.
The big question as always, will the young winger be able to maintain his level of impact on the games ahead.
This week Mike Anderer, Mike Allen and J.R. diBart go over the the victories and talk all things MLS.
Etihad Park Opens July 17, 2017!
This could be the biggest moment in NYCFC’s history. If not the biggest at the least it will be in the conversation of the top three. It is the inaugural NYCFC match at their new home, their forever home, Etihad Park!
This week Mike Anderer, Mike Allen, J.R. diBart and Blue City Radio super-sub, Christian Smith, talk about the end of the World Cup, the arrival of James Sands and Benie Traore and the newly released ticket information regarding Etihad Park.
In Their Traore Era
While the World Cup continues for some, the men of the United States are heading home. After a solid group stage and knock out round win against Bosnia-Herzegovina the USMNT looked like their old selves in a 4-1 loss to Belgium.
This week Mike Anderer, J.R. diBart and Mike Allen talk about all of the controversy surrounding the Round of 16 match and have a broader conversation about VAR and technology in the game.
The guys also talk about the new signing for NYCFC, striker Benie Traore.
World Cup Discussion and NYCFC Midseason Notes
The soccer world, maybe even the sporting world is focused on the US, Mexico and Canada as 48 teams battle for the title of World Champion. This week Mike Anderer, Mike Allen and J.R. diBart catch up on all of the action from the first two weeks of matches and share their favorite stories and highlights from the tournament so far. They also take the second part of the show to reflect on the first 15 games of the MLS season for NYCFC and how the summer transfer window will impact the squad including the return of two players back from loans.
FIFA Cash Grab 2026
As the world waits with baited breath for the first whistle in the Men’s World Cup for 2026 the chaos around ticket prices continues.
This week Mike Allen, J.R. diBart and Mike Anderer talk about NYCFC season ticket contracts, the NBA finals and the World Cup fever embracing NYC.
World Cup 2026 US Roster
This week Mike Allen, J.R. diBart and Joe Chadwick attended the USMNT Roster Reveal event in NYC.
The guys take a look at the roster and talk about the upcoming World Cup. There’s audio from Sergenio Dest and Gio Reyna.
Can We Just Forget That Last Week Even Happened?
Many MLS fans are still trying to figure out how to process a two month long break in the middle of the season. Most NYCFC fans had high expectations for this past week. A chance to advance to the semi-finals of the US Open Cup. A chance to change the narrative that the club never took the competition seriously. Pascal Jansen previously had said himself that the tournament was a great way to win a trophy. But after conceding the lone goal of the match in the 59th minute, NYCFC appeared to clean house and rest players for the next MLS match.
If some NYCFC fans were not sure how to feel about the break, the last two matches will make you want to forget about the club for a while.
This week Mike Anderer, Mike Allen and J.R. give their best takes on how NYCFC fell so low in such a short amount of time.
Get Well Soon, Maxi
The hectic schedule for NYCFC continues. A midweek clash in Charlotte followed by a derby game on Saturday all leading up to a tough Quarterfinal coming up on Wednesday. It feels as if Jansen has the team running on fumes going into the World Cup break.
This week the guys talk about the injury that saw Maxi Moralez leave the field on Saturday and the return of Malachi Jones to a more prominent role in the squad.
The Title Was Too Easy To Pick
It felt like it had been 84 years since NYCFC won an MLS game. But it had only been seven regular season games and the only two victories were in the US Open Cup.
Finally NYCFC broke out of their slump against a struggling Columbus Crew to slide back up the Eastern Conference table.
This week Christian Smith fills in for J.R. with Mike and Mike as the three talk about Jansen’s coaching styles, the team’s response to the run of poor results and of course the hat trick by Hannes Wolf.
DC Outperforms On Marvel Day
The US Open Cup victory against Red Bull on Wednesday was epic. A game for the ages with three nearly identical goals from NYCFC to defeat and eliminate their cross-river rivals.
All of that elation was quickly diffused by another abysmal offensive performance by the team on Sunday afternoon in the shadows of what will soon become their home.
This week the guys take a look back at where this team is under Pascal Jansen and can the results simply be due to the mass of injuries? We have audio from Malachi Jones, Pascal Jansen and Thiago Martins
Hudson River Desperation Match
Pascal Jansen is losing his mojo. As the sixth NYCFC head coach following the underwhelming performances by the club under Nick Cushing, Jansen was welcomed with enthusiasm. His results also earned him favor in the locker room, and from fans and the media as well. Now after an abysmal stretch of six game where they only took 2 points with four of those games coming at home, the honeymoon is over.
This week the guys are back to look at the results against FC Cincinnati and CF Montreal.
Charlotte’s Revenge
In the 2025 MLS Cup Playoffs New York City FC went to Charlotte and achieved something they had never accomplished before, they defeated the home team, twice. Those two losses eliminated Charlotte FC from the playoffs and NYCFC would move on to face Philadelphia in the next round.
This past Saturday Charlotte got their revenge.
Mike Anderer, Mike Allen and J.R. diBart are back this week to look at how NYCFC dropped another home game and sit winless in four league games.
Vancouver Defeat and Open Cup Success
NYCFC were eager to get back on the field again after losing a difficult match to defending Western Conference Champions, The Vancouver Whitecaps, away on Saturday.
Luckily the next match was a redemption game in US Open Cup as NYCFC would travel to West Chester to face USL League One side, West Chester FC.
This week Mike Anderer, Mike Allen and J.R. diBart focus on the positives and the good gets better with a 5-2 victory for the boys from the Bronx.
Stoppage Time Stunner
NYCFC returned to action after the international break and dropped two points from a winning position at home. The second time they dropped points in as many games.
Clinging onto a one goal lead late into second half stoppage time, tire legs and tired minds would fail the boys in blue as St Louis City would score the equalizer in the 96th minute.
In this episode, Mike Anderer, Mike Allen and J.R. diBart talk about the good parts and the bad parts of the match. There is also audio from Pascal Jansen and NYCFC goal-scorer, Hannes Wolf.
Topping Off Etihad Park
NYCFC took advantage of the off week for the FIFA International window and hosted the Topping Off ceremony as the last horizontal steel beam was placed in Etihad Park.
This week Mike Anderer, Mike Allen and J.R. diBart talk about the event, what if AI became part of VAR analysis and the USMNT as they play two important friendly’s to prepare for the World Cup.
Another PRO Referee Fiasco
NYCFC hosting Inter Miami on a Sunday afternoon could have been a showcase for MLS. Florida versus New York. Instead it was an exhibition of absurdity.
This week Mike Anderer and J.R. diBart welcome back Christian Smith to breakdown the Sunday afternoon match and all of it’s highs and lows.
At the end of the show listen to post-game audio from Tayvon Gray, Kevin O’Toole, Johnny Shore and Thiago Martins.
Talles Magno’s Moment
NYCFC faced their toughest challenge to date in 2026 with the Colorado Rapids coming to Yankee Stadium last Saturday. While the Rapids failed to capitalize on their sustained possession, they still proved to be a strong opponent both with their intense press and their defensive rotations.
It would be a Nico Fernandez Mercau brace that put NYCFC in the winning position, but the goal of the night was the Talles Magno icing on the cake that sealed the victory in the 85th minute.
This week Mike Anderer and J.R. diBart welcome Christian Smith to talk about NYCFC Legends and the game from the weekend.
Dunivant, Sims, Home Opening Shellacking
Home Opening games are meant to be a good time. The guys from the NYCFC Forever Podcast referenced it as being akin to the first day of school as a kid. First time in a while when you get to see your friends again.
NYCFC made sure that the fans that packed Yankee Stadium last Saturday afternoon had a good time, partially thanks to a 16th minute goal keeper gaff.
Before the guys got to talking about the game they discussed the media availability with Todd Dunivant and Brad Sims.
The Sweet Taste Of Son’s Of Ben Tears
A huge takeaway from NYCFC’s draw in Los Angeles in week one of the season was not being able to capitalize on the man advantage after LA received the red card with 30 minutes left to play. In week two, NYCFC had less time with a man advantage, but they definitely learned from their mistakes and made Philadelphia pay the price.
This week on Blue City Radio Mike Anderer and Mike Allen discuss the road win and the fact that NYCFC is undefeated in two games to start the 2026 campaign. In the show there is audio from Pascal Jansen, Keaton Parks and Tayvon Gray.
False Nines Giving False Hope
Stop us if you have heard this before, NYCFC need a striker.
Once again a team with so much promise and quality lacks a definitive player in the key role of striker. Since the departure of David Villa in 2018 the club has really only seen one quality replacement as a number nine, in Taty Castellanos. Heber had a good season with NYCFC, but he was never the same after his injury.
The start of the 2026 campaign was a stark reminder of why having such a gaping hole in the middle of the attack will limit any team’s chances on truly challenging for hardware.
This Mike Anderer, J.R. diBart and Mike Allen break the opening game of the season down. They also share some audio from Pascal Jansen, Tayvon Gray and NYCFC newcomer, Kai Trewin.
MLS Fantasy with Favian Renkel
This week NYCFC supporters got their first real look at the 2026 squad with a livestream of the team’s preseason match against LAFC.
Spoiler alert: it looked very similar to last year’s team.
This week Mike Anderer, JR diBart and Mike Allen chat about the game and also give some over/under predictions ahead of the start of the season.
In the second segment, Favian Renkel from Kickbase joins the show to talk MLS Fantasy.
Enter Todd Dunivant
This was a busy week for New York City FC.
First scrimmage of 2026 in the books.
Two players out on loan.
One player signing confirmed and one rumored.
First official press conferences of the season.
It feels like the new season is right around the corner because it is. This week Mike Anderer, J.R. diBart and Mike Allen tackle all the news stories from the club and include some audio from CSO, Todd Dunivant, and head coach, Pascal Jansen.
NYCFC Preseason Begins
This week marks the official return of the players for 2026 so it is only fitting that Mike Anderer, J.R. diBart and Mike Allen return to the virtual studio to kick off their 2026 with a discussion about Talles Magno, Keaton Parks and the other returning players to NYCFC.
Justin Haak Officially Departs NYCFC
We have all experienced the feeling of not being valued at work. Value is not about the price tag or cost, it is about the experience.
This week former-NYCFC defender, Justin Haak, made the choice to sign with LA Galaxy. In the move Haak reportedly signed for a lower salary than offered by NYCFC.
This week the guys discuss the departure of the homegrown player. They also look ahead at what key positions NYCFC need to fill once they start signing players in 2026.
The Dunivant Era Begins
Ultimately NYCFC lost their semifinal match to the eventual champions. That might not dampen the pain of the 5-1 loss in the Eastern Conference Final but it is a reminder of the success new coach Pascal Jansen had with the club in his first year.
Now enter a new Chief Soccer Officer in Todd Dunivant.
This week Mike Anderer, J.R. diBart and Mike Allen discuss what they know about the new CSO and also look at how he will impact NYCFC.
They also talk about the 2026 schedule, the 2027 calendar shift and ticket prices in Etihad Park.
The Eastern Conference Final
For most of the 2025 season a big talking point about NYCFC was the young average age of the squad. These weren’t players in their prime. That changed in summer with the additions of Aiden O’Neill, Nicolas Fernandez Mercau and Raul Gustavo. Even with those players coming in and helping the club reach another Eastern Conference Final it was not shocking to hear head coach, Pascal Jansen, lecture the team on naivete following the 5-1 loss in Fort Lauderdale.
This week Mike Anderer, J.R. diBart and Mike Allen break it all down and discuss their opinions on the future of NYCFC homegrown, Justin Haak.
Maxi Does It In Philadelphia Again
Only the diehards believed and even some of them might admit it was only half-heartedly. NYCFC limped into Subaru Park on Sunday night and took the fight to the Supporter’s Shield owners leaving them with only their dreams of hoisting a cup.
This week Mike Anderer, J.R. diBart and Mike Allen recap the moments from this Eastern Conference semi-final that made it so special. They also look ahead at the difficult task of taking down Lionel Messi and Inter Miami FC on Saturday.
NYCFC Advance To the Eastern Conference Semi-Final
NYCFC is a team that knows how to handle adversity. Their legacy began with the club’s second biggest signing missing the first half of their debut season. Their championship season was marked with two key season-ending injuries. Last year breakout rookie star, Malachi Jones, suffered a severe injury mid-season that he still has yet to return from. Despite all of these moments, the team rises, the team comes together and the bond grows.
Friday night was another of those moments as midfielder Andres Perea would land awkwardly breaking both his tibia and fibula in the 70th minute in Charlotte.
The Boys In Blue rallied as they often do to hold off the home side and win the deciding game 3-1.
This week Mike Anderer, J.R. diBart and Mike Allen discuss the options Pascal Jansen has to build a midfield for the next match in Chester, PA. They also look back at the key moments from game three of the first round series.
Win On Friday!
NYCFC had a golden opportunity to defeat the team ahead of them in the standings and advance to the second round of the MLS Cup Playoffs. Unfortunately the result did not go their way and while it is easy to blame the two young players that missed their penalty kick chances the coach was more focused on why it was not decided in regulation. That leadership is what hopefully will give NYCFC the advantage they need on Friday night in Charlotte.
This week Mike Anderer, Mike Allen and J.R. diBart discuss the idea of supporting players during the toughest moments. They also talk more about David Lee’s departure and look back at the first two games of the playoff series.
There is audio from Pascal Jansen, Hannes Wolf, Matt Freese, Justin Haak and Tayvon Gray.
MLS v The Media
Yes, NYCFC lost to Seattle at home on decision day. Yes, Mike, J.R. and Mike will discuss it, but before they do, they need to share their thoughts on the state of journalism and coverage of MLS by independent reporters.
It was always a challenge and with the passing of time, it has only gotten worse. The big question is will it ever turn around?
Episode 516: What Belongs In Ethihad Park, Where Would We Be Without NYCFC?
This is part two of our series talking with fans and friends from the first ten years of NYCFC history.
This episode focuses on two questions: what do you want to see in the NYCFC stadium? and where would you be without NYCFC?
Episode 515: Knee Deep In the Hooplah
A new NYCFC era is upon us. We now enter the Post-David-Lee era as the former sporting director departs for the vacant position in Kansas City. As NYCFC wrap up the 2025 season the team will do so trying to fill the key role and look to develop a roster ready to open their stadium in 2027.
This week Mike, J.R. and Mike discuss the tenure of David Lee and his legacy of player signings. They also look back on the loss to Philadelphia Union in Chester.
Episode 514:
How do you feel as an NYCFC fan after the week they had? They were embarrassed at home against one of the strongest teams in the league and then fought back valiantly against their cross-river rival to capture the Hudson River Trophy.
It is really a tale of opposites, but ultimately the spirits are running high as they enter the last two weeks of the season.
And to add some more sugar to the coffee, members of the media, including Blue City Radio’s own JR diBart, were given their first tour of Ethiad Park. That’s a lot to talk about but the guys get it done and all in less than 90 minutes.
Episode 513:
There was so much going on with NYCFC last week that we did not think we could fit all of our thoughts into one episode, and we didn’t. The guys did share some audio with NYCFC CEO, Brad Sims, as well as recap the two thrilling wins from the week that give the Boys In Blue great momentum heading into another extremely challenging week.
Episode 512:
For weeks we have been waiting for some consistency from NYCFC. Too often their victories fooled pundits and fans alike into thinking they were a solid squad worthy of making a playoff run, only to be followed by games that made people quip if they would make the playoffs at all.
Obviously one game is not enough to sway opinions, but with the remaining six games approaching the victory in Chicago was a great start.
Listen this week as the guys breakdown the Fire victory and look ahead at the games that remain. There is also audio from Seymour Reid, Pascal Jansen and Nico Fernandez Mercau.
Episode 511: First Memories, Player Interactions, Supporter Culture
As we watch NYCFC play it’s eleventh season in MLS we thought it would be a perfect time to capture some memories of the first ten years. During the beginning of this season Mike Anderer sat down with some notable fans and friends to hear their stories about the growth of the team. Featured in these episodes are Jon Sanchez, Andy Bajana, Trey Fillmore, Christian Polanco, Chelsea Socias, Gretta Fernandez, Deron Jenkins, Danny Chediak, Brenda Picinic and Karol Lamb.
Episode 510:
Pascal Jansen did not mince words in his post game press conference following the 2-1 loss for NYCFC against last place, DC United. He called out his team saying the “attack was not good enough”.
Yes, DC capitalized on two key moments, but it was the lack of creativity and chances that lead to the home loss. Remiscient of Ronny Deila’s infamous, “I’d rather win 5-4 than 1-0” quote, Jansen thinks his team should be able to score more than one goal against a team that came into Yankee Stadium with the worst goal differential in the league.
The guys take a stab at trying to make this week without a league game less depressing with their takes and comments on NYCFC.
Episode 509:
Are the other teams in MLS sleeping on NYCFC? That was the debate happening after NYCFC walked into TQL Stadium and took three points from FC Cincinnati and helped de-throne the Supporter’s Shield leaders on Saturday night.
Mike Anderer, J.R. diBart and Mike Allen share their opposing views on the subject. They discuss the emergence of Alonso Martinez and what that means for his value as a striker and also discuss what they feel are the top non-PK goals in club history.
Episode 508:
The weather delay on Sunday at Yankee Stadium was not as bad as the delay from August 11, 2021 but don’t tell that to the fans that waited over an hour and twenty minutes before plays late in the first half of NYCFC’s victory over Nashville SC.
It was also the second game in a row that NYCFC players scuffled with their opponent. This time it was Alonso Martinez running about 40 yards to come to his teammate’s defense.
This week Mike Anderer and J.R. diBart welcome Adam and Justin from Post 90 Podcast on the show to breakdown the game.
Episode 507:
NYCFC’s Leagues Cup run came to an end after a heated 2-1 loss “on the road” in Yankee Stadium to Toluca. The game included intense moments of drama and NYCFC had their opportunities but did not capitalize on them.
This week J.R. diBart, Mike Allen and Mike Anderer review the Leagues Cup from an NYCFC perspective. They talk about the identity of this club and their willingness to fight for each other. And where are the signings? Where is the help for Pascal Jansen?
Episode 506:
Were you shocked to see the title of this week’s episode comes from an Animaniac’s song from 2020? Is that really more shocking that NYCFC conceding three first half goals only to have the FC Dallas lead erased by two Alonso Martinez goals to wrap up the first NYCFC Away Game hat trick in club history?
This week Mike Anderer, J.R. diBart and Mike Allen go back over the chaos that was a Friday night in Frisco, Texas as Pascal Jansen coached his tired and weary team to seven points from a difficult four games on the road.
And as always remember Banana hammock is a another word for thong.
Episode 505:
It is the dog days of summer, whatever that really means. For NYCFC it meant to hot and humid matches. It also meant Pascal Jansen in a full track suit both nights. It also meant very limited rotation of players in a week with short rest. Most importantly it meant 4 points on the table.
This week Mike Anderer, Mike Allen and J.R. diBart go over the last two matches, talk about the absence of Mitjia Illenic and talk about the recommendations to MLS owners about changing the league format and schedule.
Episode 504:
This week America was on full display as the Club World Cup Final was played in Met Life Stadium in NJ and NYCFC traveled to Charlotte. Mike Allen and Mike Anderer are joined by Christian Smith to breakdown the week in soccer and to look ahead at a busy week for NYCFC with two more road games coming up.
Episode 503:
The Gold Cup comes to an end with the USMNT falling to their rivals Mexico in Houston. Sports loves controversy and in the 66th minute of the final there was a huge moment that impacted the outcome.
NYCFC also hosted another across the border rival in Yankee Stadium and Mitjia Illenic was in the thick of building the tension between the two sides.
Oh, and then there’s the rumors of a new attacking midfielder, but we’ll get to that at the end of the show.
Episode 502:
This week was a tough one for the odds makers. CF Montreal had not won a home game all season long. NYCFC is notoriously bad as a road team and had already handed CF Montreal one of their few victories this season. CF Montreal was missing seven players to international duty and NYCFC was missing their striker and starting keeper. Then, if it wasn’t difficult enough for the Vegas bookies, two days before the match it was announced that NYCFC head coach, Pascal Jansen, had to return to Europe for a family emergency.
In the end, the game played out as expected. NYCFC played down to their opponent’s table position and lost 1-0. Luckily for NYCFC fans their two international stars, Matt Freese and Alonso Martinez, took center stage at the Gold Cup and truly put on a show. That’s how Mike Anderer, Mike Allen and J.R. diBart start off this week’s episode.
Episode 501:
NYCFC welcomed former head coach, Ronny Delia, and his Atlanta United to Yankee Stadium and it was a wild night for the hometown team. Monsef Bakrar and Hannes Wolf would combine to score the fastest three goals in club history.
This week Mike Anderer, J.R. diBart and Mike Allen are back to discuss the 4-0 victory against Atlanta and hit on some other topics around the sport.
Episode 500!
We are all overcome with gratitude to our loyal listeners and followers that tune in. Some are there every week, some once a season, and some only once ever, but if you have ever given us even a single minute of your time to support the show we are grateful. We do this every week for you.
Thank you for helping us get to Episode 500 and here is to 500 more!
Episode 499:
It has been an exhausting month for NYCFC and it’s fans. The team closes out the month with their home game against Houston but it has already been a month of ups and downs. Currently, the team is on a high after a thrilling 3-1 victory at home against a surging Chicago Fire.
This week the guys talk about the struggle for consistency under Pascal Jansen as he tries to unlock the best from his squad.
There’s audio from Pascal Jansen, Hannes Wolf, Monsef Bakrar and Tayvon Gray.
Episode 498:
Revenge, redemption, and payback. This week Luis Barraza met his former team and played one his best games of his career to hold NYCFC scoreless in DC and then the Boys In Blue got some payback of their own with a demonstrative victory over Red Bull at Citifield. Questions still remain about this squad and their ultimate ceiling in the league, but for this week at least, the spirits and ambitions are high.
Mike Anderer and Mike Allen listen to the audio from Pascal Jansen on his team’s inconsistency and look for some of the reasons why their is hope for the growth of the squad under the new coach. They also recap the two games from the week and share player audio from CitiField.
Episode 497:
It easily could be the worst results week in NYCFC history, losing to USL side, Pittsburgh Riverhounds, in the US Open Cup on Wednesday followed up by a loss to last place CF Montreal at home on Saturday. Pascal Jansen is running out of options as he juggles the extremely thin lineup options.
This week J.R. diBart returns to join Mike Anderer and Mike Allen to give their thoughts on who might be able to help this team right the ship before it’s too late.
Episode 496:
FC Cincinnati entered CitiField on a five game winning streak and second in the MLS Supporter’s Shield standings. NYCFC have struggled for consistency both on the road and at home. This was not a match up on paper at least that filled NYCFC fans with confidence. Enter Pascal Jansen and his tactical acumen.
This week the two Mikes, Anderer and Allen, look at the challenges facing this team with the nagging injury to Keaton Parks, but also with the inability for any winger to lock in their starting role.
Episode 495:
Credit to Roberto Abramowitz and his Spanish language broadcast team for the statistic that NYCFC did not win any of their first five road games three times in their history: 2015, 2023 and 2025. The huge question is that does Pascal Jansen have what it takes to earn a playoff bid from that position. Jason Kreis and Nick Cushing both failed to reach that goal.
This week Mike and Mike are joined by Christian Smith to discuss the signing of Aiden O’Neill, the victory in Toronto and all things NYCFC.
Episode 494:
NYCFC entered Gillette Stadium on Saturday night fresh off a victory against a strong Philadelphia side and hoped to carry that momentum on the road in Foxboro. Unfortunately New England had other thoughts and the performance from NYCFC was simply not good enough as eloquently shared by the captain, “We need to be better.”
The sad part of that quote is that there was no further follow-up given and honestly not even needed. It was poor all around and the team knows it.
This week Mike Anderer, J.R. diBart and Mike Allen take a look back at the track record of David Lee as a Sporting Director. They also share their thoughts on what separates good players from great players as they look towards the rest of the season hoping for reinforcements to arrive in July.
Episode 493:
Ever since 2021 Philadelphia Union fans have complained about NYCFC’s Championship run. This past week in Queens Pascal Jansen lead the boys in blue past the Union on a cold rainy night in Queens.
The game was also a celebration of Keaton Parks’s 200th performance in all competitions.
This week the guys give their thoughts about Keaton, NYCFC wonder kid, Johnny Shore, and the release of the first set of prices for seats in the new stadium.
Episode 492:
One of the most famous names in baseball is Wally Pipp. Ask a true baseball fan and they’ll tell you the story not of Pipp’s success as a player and World Series Champion as a New York Yankee, but about his headache that kept him out of a game on June 2, 1925.
In NYCFC lore there are a few memorable substitutions of note for both good and bad reasons. One of the most negative of those occurred Sunday afternoon when Birk Risa was removed from the match in the 40th minute and replaced by Strahinja Tanasijevic. It was a move that ultimately did not change the outcome of the match, but it hopefully will have a positive impact on the rest of the season for NYCFC.
This week the guys are back to breakdown the 1-2 home loss at the hands of the Loons. Suffer through the highs and lows with Mike Anderer, J.R. diBart and Mike Allen.
Episode 491:
NYCFC lost on Saturday in Atlanta. That’s not breaking news to anyone who follows the team, but the collapse from the club is indicative of a much bigger issue. David Lee has not given head coach, Pascal Jansen, enough resources to make tactical adjustments necessary to win games. It is that simple.
This week Mike Anderer, J.R. diBart and Mike Allen are back to dive deep into what is happening with NYCFC’s depth deficiency. The trio also give their thoughts on the leadership from captain, Thiago Martins.
Episode 490:
Blame it on the injuries. Blame it on the playing during a FIFA window. Blame it on David Lee for not signing any players to replace James Sands, Santi Rodriguez or Jovan Mijatovic.
NYCFC crawled into Lower.com Field on Saturday night to face the Columbus Crew and it was not a prototypical NYCFC game. The team was outshot 24-4 and only had 40% of the ball.
The bright spot of the game was seeing the team close out the draw by the hairs on their legs with three 17 year old players on the field, two of which were playing their debut minutes.
This week Mike Anderer, J.R. diBart and Mike Allen take a look back at the 0-0 draw in Columbus and also spend some time discussing the USMNT losses (yes, plural) at home to Panama and Canada.
Episode 489:
Ten year’s to the day from NYCFC’s historic home-opening game at Yankee Stadium the club welcomed back to the house that Jeter built for another match. New England limped into this game missing their newest signing and star striker, Leo Campana. The Revs also have lost the first three games of the 2025 campaign to build upon the streak of losing the last four of 2024.
It would be New England that took the early lead off a Thiago Martin’s own-goal, the third of his career with NYCFC, but goals from Julian Fernandez and Alonso Martinez gave New York all three points on the day.
This week the guys are back to recap last week’s exciting match. They also share thoughts on how this team is evolving away from the underwhelming style of Nick Cushing into the attack first mindset brought in by Pascal Jansen.
There is audio from NYCFC head coach, Pascal Jansen, as well as players Keaton Parks, Matt Freese and Hannes Wolf.
Episode 488:
It’s an anniversary moment ten years in the making. NYCFC versus Orlando, but this time the Boys In Blue were the home team and the victors on the day.
Pascal Jansen took his “Team First” mentality and pushed the squad to raise their intensity and two second half goals were the difference in NYCFC’s eleventh home-opener and the penultimate event at Yankee Stadium.
This week Mike Anderer, J.R. diBart and Mike Allen are back to break down the game, share their fondest memories of the past 10 seasons and highlight some player audio captured post-game from Yankee Stadium.Artwork
Episode 487:
There was an excitement about NYCFC under Pascal Jansen after last week’s game in Miami. The team played with intensity and was clinical in their finishing.
This past weekend in California the Boys In Blue look to have regressed to resemble their weakest moments under Nick Cushing. There were long stretches of possession that did not result in chances. There were players out of position and a midfield without a talisman to close out the match. It was quintessential 2023 NYCFC.
Mike Anderer, Mike Allen and J.R. diBart take a look back at the performance and share audio clips from head coach, Pascal Jansen, and midfielder, Keaton Parks, to highlight some of the biggest opportunities from the game.
Episode 486:
NYCFC went into Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale with zero designated players available for their season opener against Inter Miami FC. Just hours before kick-off on Saturday night the team officially announced the departure of midfielder Santi Rodriguez and captain, Thiago Martins, was still recovering from a preseason injury. Even without the presence of those key players, the Boys in Blue were able to fight back from a one goal deficit to equalize and eventually take the lead for a large portion of the second half only to concede the equalizer in the last minutes of play.
This week Mike Anderer, J.R. diBart and Michael Allen breakdown the choices made by David Lee and by Pascal Jansen this week. There’s also audio post-game from Mitjia Illenic and our annual list of over/under lines for 2025.
Episode 485:4
As the days remaining to NYCFC’s first game of the season tick away, the squad is getting younger on average thanks to a little addition by subtraction. The pending loss of Santi Rodriguez means an already young team will be even younger with the departure of the veteran midfielder.
This week Mike Anderer and Mike Allen look at the impact that Santi’s departure will have on the decisions Pascal Jansen will have to make in his starting XI.
Episode 484:
It has been just over a month with new head coach, Pascal Jansen, in charge of the club and already some keywords are already starting to permeate the preseason camp. Top among them is “bullet-proof mindset”.
This week Mike Anderer and J.R. diBart are joined by Adam and Justin from Post 90 Podcast to dive into the preseason mindset of the Boys in Blue. J.R. traveled out to the Coachella Invitational and collected some audio from Justin Haak, Mounsef Bakrar and Tayvon Gray.
Episode 483:
NYCFC enter the Coachella Valley Invitational looking to put a bow on their post season but also to answer a lot of preseason questions.
Who will replace James Sands in the midfield?
How many minutes can Maxi play?
Will Martinez be the leading goal scorer in 2025?
Mike Anderer, J.R. diBart and Mike Allen take a look at some of the recent changes for the club as they continue their preseason.
Episode 482:
NYCFC landed in Santa Barbara to begin their preseason but they are missing a few key pieces. Matt Freese is with the USMNT in Florida. Jovan Mijatovic is still in Europe on a “training stint”. Christian McFarlane did not travel because of a possible transfer and then there’s the lack of information about NYCFC’s newest head coach, Pascal Jansen.
This week Mike Anderer, J.R. diBart and Mike Allen discuss all of these topics and more.
Episode 481: NYCFC Got Their Guy
2025 is upon us. With that brings new changes for NYCFC and those changes are happening already. The preseason starts in a week, preseason friendlies start in two weeks. Regular season games are only 45 days away.
Mike Anderer, J.R. diBart and Mike Allen gather around the mics again to give their brief cursory thoughts on the big topics happening around the club during the off-season.
Episode 480:
The final Blue City Radio episode of 2024 is here. There’s schedule talk, MLS Superdraft talk, and Ronny Delia to Atlanta talk.
We want to also take a moment to thank the listeners. Whether you tune in every week or once a season or even once every three years when your team faces NYCFC, your time to tune in is very much appreciated.
Until 2025… the story of Blue City Radio continues.
Episode 479:
There really is never a good time to try and take a break when you are covering a sports team. Even though a season might come to an end and some decisions are pending, there is no way to know when those choices will be made and communicated.
This week Mike Anderer, J.R. diBart and Mike Allen return after a week’s hiatus to find a full plate of topics to discuss. The amount of NYCFC news was so large that they had to invite Chris Campbell from The Outfield on the show to give us his thoughts on the NYCFC stadium groundbreaking.
Episode 478:
It is hard to imagine a worse ending to the season than losing at home to your cross-river rival and not really make the game look close.
CitiField only had a capacity of 25,000 on a cold windy Saturday night in late November. As the game wore on the Red Bull fans that were speckled throughout the sea of blue started to gain in confidence and in voice and by the 85th minute they were in control of the Queens atmosphere.
This week Mike Anderer, J.R. diBart and Mike Allen help each other cope with the reality that despite handing Red Bull two defeats in the regular season, when it mattered the most, NYCFC could not get the ball across the line.
There is post game audio from Nick Cushing, Thiago Martins, Justin Haak, James Sands, Keaton Parks, Matt Freese, Tayvon Gray and Mitjia Illenic.
Episode 477:
This week the guys bring you a special preview episode because on Saturday NYCFC hosts Red Bull in what is their most important MLS matchup to date and most important derby game since Thiago Andrade lost his temper in the 2022 US Open Cup Quarterfinals.
Mike Anderer, J.R. diBart and Mike Allen welcome former MLS player and current MLS Season Pass color commentator, Calen Carr, to the show in the second segment to get his perspective on both of these teams heading into this weekend’s game.
Episode 476:
NYCFC traveled to Cincinnati for game three of the opening round of the MLS Cup Playoffs and kept the number three seed in the east to a nil-nil draw. The game was decided by penalty kicks and Matt Freese proved to be just as important in the moment as he has been all season long.
This week Mike Anderer, J.R. diBart and Mike Allen look back at round one of the playoffs and look ahead at the all-important Hudson River Derby matchup on November 23 in CitiField.
Episode 475:
NYCFC hosted FC Cincinnati in CitiField on Saturday for the second leg of the first round of MLS Playoffs and the Boys In Blue solidly defeated the higher seed opponent.
This week Mike Anderer, J.R. deBart and Mike Allen discuss the game from last week. There is plenty of post game audio as well as a conversation with Justin Haak from training in the midweek.
Episode 474:
In hindsight maybe the guys from Post90 Podcast and The City Boys have been right all along? To be fair, there was a show called City Post Game Live in 2016-2017 that had a little traction, but I digress.
This week Mike Anderer and Mike Allen turn on the mics during the last 15 minutes of the NYCFC away match in Cincinnati and then discuss their reactions after the final whistle. Included are the post game pressers from Keaton Parks and Nick Cushing as well as some discussion on where Nick Cushing might be blowing his whistle next season.
Episode 473:
In the ten season history of NYCFC, the team had only lost to Montreal twice. Once was in 2020 during the “Covid” season that will forever be tainted by the impact the pandemic had on rosters, venues, and fan support. The second time was in NYCFC’s inaugural season under head coach, Jason Kreis. Back in 2015 NYCFC was a project. It was not well-oiled machine like it’s counterpart in Manchester. But in 2024, already with a championship and an international trophy already in its case, the team should be more than a project. More than a young coach and youthful squad going through a multi-season long process. The team at this point should be “plug and play” with depth both on the roster but also in its reserve squad. And yet, here we are, again, limping into the playoffs grasping at the thin chances of advancing to the meaningful moments in the MLS Cup Playoffs.
This week Mike Anderer, J.R. deBart, and Mike Allen look at the 2024 regular season with a discerning critical eye and also recap the loss in Montreal that brought up the memories of the team under Jason Kreis.
Episode 472:
After a statement win in Harrison NJ last week, NYCFC had to host two games as the home team in the same arena. Both games the boys in blue were victorious setting up some great momentum going into the international break and then the return to Decision Day in Montreal on October 19.
This week Mike Anderer welcomes back Haylon Harroo from Five Borough Footy to give some commentary and analysis on Nick Cushing’s team as the regular season comes to an end and the post season looms on the horizon.
Episode 471:
Historic moments often come completely by surprise. NYCFC’s first MLS Cup Championship was the pinnacle moment for fans, but it was a cup final. Expectations were high, but the outcome was plausible. The team had earned a chance to have that special moment.
This past week NYCFC traveled to their home away from home in Harrison, NJ to face their cross-town rivals and the outcome was far from expected.
This week Mike Anderer, J.R. deBart, and Mike Allen gloat over the dominant performance from Nick Cushing’s side from Saturday. There’s audio from Nick Cushing, Hannes Wolf and Brad Sims.
Episode 470:
For a club and organization that talks so much about identity and focusing on their own style of play NYCFC’s performances are the furthest thing from consistent. It has been a theme and talking point about this young group of players all season long and this week was a perfect example of the chasm between the lowest performances and the strongest team play.
This week Mike Anderer and J.R. Dibart welcome Alec Kousoff from Five Borough Footy to the show as a guest to break down the miserable loss from the midweek to Philadelphia and the frenzied circus that comes to town with Inter Miami.
Included in the show are quotes from Thiago Martins, Keaton Parks, Nick Cushing, Strahina Tanasijevic, Tayvon Gray, Mitjia Illenic and Alonso Martinez
Episode 469:
Let’s face facts. After 28 games it is becoming clear that NYCFC under Nick Cushing is a mediocre team. Occasional flashes of brilliance, long stretches of possession without purpose, but worst of all a commitment to underperforming talent. Last year in 2023 the team suffered through the extended Barraza experiment and in a “rinse and repeat” pattern 2024 saw the Bakrar drought go on and on. Even after the emergence of Alonso Martinez, Bakrar still finds his way on to the pitch for 20 minutes per match.
This week Mike Anderer, J.R. deBart and Mike Allen take a long hard look at the club’s identity as being a mid-table side that will compete, but ultimately lacks the talent to be a top tier team in the league. Nick Cushing has put his stamp on the squad and the ink-stained image on the crest reads, “Ordinary”.
Episode 468:
Not much goes smooth and simple with NYCFC. Their first-ever signing is now scorned by half of the fanbase, their second biggest signing arrived months later than anticipated, heck, even Jason Kreis misspoke during the expansion draft that gave Orlando the first pick in that year’s superdraft. Since day one there has been chaos and controversy. So why after 10 years would fans expect anything less when it comes to elements as beloved and cherished as the team badge?
This week Mike Anderer and J.R. deBart are joined by Haylon Harroo from Five Borough Footy to discuss the unexpected update to the iconic NYCFC badge.
Episode 467:
Each week the goal is to find a whimsical title for the episodes but this week required brazen honesty.
NYCFC flew to Columbus and played the reigning MLS Champions to a hard fought 2-2 draw for 90 minutes. The final score would be 4-2 after the home side notched two goals in stoppage time. While NYCFC head coach and players blamed Ted Unkel for the loss, the reality was that NYCFC wasted numerous chances to put the game away.
In the episode Mike, J.R. and Mike Allen go over the game but also take a deep dive into the leadership of the team starting with head coach, Nick Cushing.
Episode 466:
MLS regular season returns and there are only nine games remaining. NYCFC dropped points in a crucial match-up against a struggling Chicago Fire side on Saturday night in Flushing.
This week the two Mikes (Anderer and Allen) are joined by Justin Egan and Chris Campbell of The Outfield to talk about Leagues Cup, NYCFC playing down to their competition and the draw from CitiField.
Episode 465:
After shocking Tigres in Red Bull Arena last Tuesday night, NYCFC took reigning MLS champions, Columbus Crew, to PK’s in a tense quarterfinal match on Saturday night.
NYCFC returns to MLS league play this coming Saturday at home, in CitiField against the Chicago Fire. The big question is which team will show up for Nick Cushing on Saturday, the gritty squad from the two most recent games or the passive group that could barely muster any offense against New England and Queretero?
This week Mike Anderer, J.R. deBart and Mike Allen talk about all that and more on Blue City Radio
Episode 464:
Talles Magno’s time with NYCFC will never be clearly defined in a single term or word. His arrival was met with high praise and fanfare. He was a key to the NYCFC offense often drawing double team defense that created space for others to operate. He was a magician with the ball at his feet, but following the departure of Ronny Deila Talles was mismanaged. Nick Cushing’s style didn’t favor Talles’s talents and the situation quickly became the cliche of the square peg in the round hole.
This week Mike Anderer, J.R. deBart and Mike Allen look back the young Brazilian phenoms career with NYCFC. They also discuss how this departure and the conversations that Nick Cushing shared with the press inform how Nick will be judged as a coach that can be trusted.
In the second segment the guys touch on the game in New England from Friday and the upcoming match at Red Bull Arena against Tigres.
Episode 463:
Nick Cushing and NYCFC can only face the team in front of them. Whether it be an MLS squad weakened by injury and suspension or a struggling Liga MX side the Boys In Blue have to compete against their opponent and win the points. This past Sunday Queretero, a team that has failed to earn a single point in league play, came to Yankee Stadium and stifled the NYCFC attack earning a point in tournament play.
Mike Anderer, J.R. deBart and Mike Allen breakdown the key moments of the most recent match and highlight the key players of the day including Talles Magno, Maxi Moralez and Justin Haak.
The guys also round out the episode with some conversation about the Canadian soccer controversy and spy scandal that was exposed in the Paris Olympics.
Episode 462:
NYCFC wrapped up their four game road trip with a pair of exciting draws. The pigeons in back to back games would have to earn points after conceding the opening goal.
Justin Haak, Matt Freese and Talles Magno would all have impacts on the games this week. Mike Anderer, J.R. deBart, and Mike Allen take a look at the games from the past week and dig deeper into the odd handling of one of the club’s best prospects in Talles Magno.
Episode 461:
This weekend hosted a magnificent Euro 2024 Final, a chaotic and scary Copa America Final, and a snoozefest of an NYCFC match between an injury-riddled away side and simply a poor home side in Chicago.
This week JR Dibart takes the hosting duties and talks about all the week’s topics with Mike Allen and guest host, Scott Churchson from Steampunk Entertainment.
The guys talk about all of the weekend’s topics as well as the media availability that Sporting Director, David Lee, hosted with the local independent journalists.
Episode 460:
This week’s episode could almost be recorded at any given time in the year. The USMNT under performed under Gregg Berhalter and NYCFC won a home game and then lost a road game. There really is not much shocking about these occurrences.
This week the guys take a moment to talk about Berhalter’s future with US Soccer and possible replacements both from a pipe dream level but also realistic options.
Second segment is all about the home match versus Montreal in CitiField and in the final segment they discuss the loss in Austin.
There is lots of post-game audio shared from the Montreal match.
Episode 459:
NYCFC has a history of bright young players that burst on the scene hoping to secure a spot on the squad and cement their relationship with the fanbase. This year Malachi Jones did both with his speed, talent and smile. Sadly during the 4-2 victory from Friday against Orlando City, the winger suffered a devastating injury that will most likely see him out until next season.
Mike, J.R. and Mike Allen talk through the injury, the impact to the roster depth and what players might see minutes in the rookie’s absence.
The trio also use the second segment to have a quick conversation about the USMNT with that group’s final match of the Copa America kicking off immediately after recording.
Episode 458:
Patrick Vieira had the difficult task of managing the last chapter of Andrea Pirlo’s NYCFC career. It was clear that despite Pirlo’s ability, the player did not fit the system Vieira was crafting for the team. In Pirlo’s final season with NYCFC he started less than half of the team’s regular season games and was an unused sub in 14 of 34 matches. Many fans will recall his last touch from Yankee stadium was an overhit ball in his one minute of play at the end of the Conference semi-finals as NYCFC would win the game but lose the series on aggregate 3:4 against the Columbus Crew.
Before the critics start to yell about my comparisons between Talles Magno and Andrea Pirlo let me be clear that the only comparison I am making is that the two players were both designated players that were not seen by their respective managers as critical components to the team’s success.
In all honesty, I think Talles would be happy to atleast have seven appearances in the first half of the season as opposed to his one.
This week Mike, J.R. and Mike Allen get into the debate of whether Talles will remain and finish out the season with the Pigeons.
They also discuss the two losses from this week and include an exclusive interview from Los Angeles with Malachi Jones.
Episode 457:
What started as a rainy stormy night became a beautiful evening in the Bronx. NYCFC was poised to take on a formidable foe in the Columbus Crew and hope to maintain their record breaking streak of victories.
Unfortunately three second-half goals by the visitors would be too much for the Pigeons to overcome.
This week Mike Anderer and Mike Allen discuss the key moments from Friday’s loss. In the second segment Mike Anderer is joined by Trey Fillmore, another OG podcaster, from Blue Balls Pod to get into the sentiment postgame in the tunnels of Yankee Stadium.
We hear from Santi Rodriguez, Malachi Jones, and making his NYCFC and MLS debut, Christian McFarlane.
Episode 456:
It is a story that Don Garber would like to see go away. It is an MLS story that’s only competition on the global sportspages was a scampering raccoon.
It was the accusation from John Herdman against Nick Cushing. It was the accusation that the league admitted was without evidence.
This week Mike, J.R. and Mike Allen dig into the thin statement that was released to limited outlets.
The trio also discuss the USMNT loss to Colombia in their recent friendly.
Episode 455:
It has been said in creative circles that a key to success is to create to an audience of one. The creative juices flow easier when the distractions of trying to please others are removed and the end-product is better.
This week Mike Anderer tests that theory. J.R. Debart was a last minute scratch from the show due to a work conflict so the decision was quickly made to have J.R. deliver soundbytes on a few topics so they could be inserted into the show during post-production.
This week the guys talk about the thrilling match in Yankee Stadium versus San Jose and the incredible performance by Alonso Martinez, but the real story of this match is the return of 37 year old Maxi Moralez.
Post game audio from Nick Cushing, Maxi Moralez, Matt Freese, James Sands, Mitja Illenic, and Birk Risa round out the show.
Episode 454:
First we saw the emergence of Hannes Wolf, then there was the raccoon in Philly, and in New England it was Big Bird to save the day.
NYCFC is hot. They are in fact the hottest team in the league.
This week Mike, J.R. and Mike Allen take a look at the game in Foxborough and discuss where the difference is between this year’s NYCFC and the dismal team from 2023.
Episode 453:
After falling in their last home game of five in a row to Colorado there was some nervousness amongst the NYCFC fanbase, and it was justified. The team was pathetic on the road in 2023 and had a difficult schedule looming. Nick Cushing quipped after the Colorado loss, “We’ve won 10 points out of 15 from the home stand, let’s see where we are after the next 5 games because three are on the road.”
NYCFC would go on to take the next nine available points defeating Toronto last week and completing a sweep of cross-river rivals in Philadelphia on Wednesday and Red Bull on Saturday.
This week Mike, J.R. and Mike Allen dig into the changes Nick Cushing is making to move NYCFC up the table.
This episode is full of post-game audio from Saturday’s Hudson River Derby.
Episode 452:
Some weeks the guys sit and wonder what they will talk about. After all the way NYCFC has been playing under Nick Cushing has not always been the most thrilling soccer. This week as the final minutes of the match in Toronto ticked down they knew this episode would be a little different, maybe a little easier to find the joy and comfort in podcasting. Then the final whistle blew and all the narratives immediately changed.
This week Mike, J.R. and Mike Allen unpack the melee, the accusations, the press conferences and all the news surrounding Saturday’s match.
In the second segment the guys welcome Cheyenne (@btwncleansheets) on the show to talk about her plans to travel the continent watching soccer and experiencing the world.
Episode 451:
David Lee, Nick Cushing and company have made the conscious decision to fill the New York City FC roster with an abundance of young men. Young men that are still developing mentally, physically and emotionally.
On a team where the veteran players are 26 years old the only thing coaches can count on is inconsistency.
This week Mike Anderer and Mike Allen invite Andrew Leigh from Hudson River Blue on the show to discuss the unwatchable loss from Sunday as the Citizens hosted Colorado.
Episode 450:
NYCFC played the fourth of their five-game homestand on Saturday night and despite falling behind early to a team that has frustratingly gotten the best of them, a late winner by Alonso Martinez sealed the three points.
This week Mike and J.R. welcome one of the more polarizing members of the NYCFC social media community, Coach Joe, to the show to discuss the 2-1 victory over Charlotte FC. Together the three take a look at the key plays and moments from the match and share some post-game audio from the players.
Mike also had a chance to chat with Hannes Wolf during the week at training and they talk about the transition to MLS and settling in at New York City FC.
Episode 449:
This weekend was a high-point for NYCFC fans. The team capped off another victory against an Eastern Conference rival, DC United, but more importantly Mayor Adams and Councilman Moya were on hand in CitiField to officially recognize the approval of NYCFC’s soccer specific stadium in Willet’s Point.
The guys this week discuss the plans for the stadium and share some audio from Mayor Adams, NYCFC CEO, Brad Sims and NYCFC COO, Jennifer O’Sullivan.
They also break down the victory against a depleted DC United lineup including audio from Nick Cushing, Mounsef Bakrar, Kevin O’Toole, James Sands, and Keaton Parks.
Episode 448:
New York City FC won. New York City won by scoring more than one goal in a game. New York City won because they scored more goals than the opposing team. New York City FC… you get the idea.
This week Mike, J.R. and Mike Allen look back the team’s win against New England from last Saturday. The guys also discuss the latest updates on the stadium progress.
Inside the episode is audio from Nick Cushing, Matt Freese, Augustin Ojeda, James Sands, Thiago Martins, Malachi Jones, Birk Risa, Mitja Ilenic, Kevin O’Toole, Hannes Wolf, Andres Perea, Monsef Bakrar, and Keaton Parks.
Episode 447:
This is what we’ve come to. The well is running dry of ideas and excuses as to why New York City FC continues to waffle and struggle. This is no longer an anomaly. This is New York City FC’s identity under Nick Cushing with this current roster. Gone are the promises of turning it around. Gone are the dreams of being near the top of the table. Gone are the multi-goal games and rosters capable of winning Golden Boot honors.
This week Mike Anderer welcomes Adam and Justin from Post90 Podcast to fill in for Mike Allen and J.R. and the pair offer more support to Blue City Radio than Julian Fernandez and Augustin Ojeda have offered to New York City FC.
The trio go over the draw in CitiField that kicks off the five-game homestead for the club.
In the show they share quotes from Nick Cushing, Hannes Wolf, Thiago Martins, James Sands, Keaton Parks and Birk Risa.
Episode 446:
New York City FC has been in a horrible scoring drought since the end of 2022. In 2023 the club average just over one goal per game and things are not looking better to start 2024 with the club in scoring in only half of their first six matches and only scoring more than a single goal only once this year.
The questions continue for the club. Both Sporting Director, David Lee, and Head Coach, Nick Cushing, have spoken highly of the new roster additions but many of the new players have yet to feature in matches. Cushing remains consistent in his approach of “form over freshness” by giving the same players minutes despite their lack of goals.
This week the guys take a look at the game from Miami, the questions about Nick Cushing’s tactics and look ahead at the next five home games for New York City FC.
Episode 445:
What can be said about New York City FC’s performance away in Cincinnati? The team was headed to the defending Supporter’s Shield winners from 2023 missing six players to international duty, one to suspension and two key attackers out because of injuries. The outlook was bleak from the beginning of the training week and despite all of the headwinds, the Boys In Blue conceded a loan goal to Luciano Acosta in the 57th minute.
This week Mike, J.R. and Mike Allen look at the current state of NYCFC through their first five games. The guys also look at the comparisons to Nick Cushing and Gregg Berhalter.
Episode 444:
New York City FC took a step towards redemption on Saturday night in Yankee Stadium. Against a severely depleted Toronto FC, Nick Cushing lead the team to a 2-1 victory. This is the first victory for the team after conceding the first goal since 2022.
This week Mike Anderer and Mike Allen welcome John Baney (@thePigeonsNYCFC) to the show to go over the game’s highlights.
In the second segment Greg Irwin, the General Manager for NPSL club FC Motown, joins the show to discuss the upcoming US Open Cup match against New York City FC II.
There’s also quotes from Birk Risa, Nick Cushing, Matt Freese and Thiago Martins.
Episode 443:
New York City FC played its home opener on Saturday in front of 24,000 freezing wet fans and conceded two goals after the 80th minute to lose to Portland 1-2, and that’s the good news.
The team came out blazing in the first 25 minutes and did well to control the rest of the first half despite a surge from the Timbers. It was when the second half started that all of the old habits of a young New York City FC came out and the team lost complete control of the match.
This week the guys look back at the home opener and all the woes it exposed. Both Mike Anderer and Mike Allen had the chance to also sit down with New York City FC CEO, Brad Sims, to discuss the play on the field, the roster construction and the plans and renderings for the stadium in Queens. There is plenty of audio from that exchange as well as post game comments from Nick Cushing, Keaton Parks, Hannes Wolf, Mounsef Bakrar, Andres Perea, Andres Jasson, Mitja Ilenic, Matt Freese and Tayvon Gray.
It’s long episode but one that we enjoyed recording so we hope you enjoy listening to.
Episode 442:
NYCFC travelled for the first time to St Louis. Nick Cushing knew the style of the club, the players knew what to expect from the opposition and still they looked woefully unprepared for the match. Credit where credit is due, St Louis are an excellent team, but NYCFC should not be man-handled the way they were.
This week Mike, JR and Mike Allen take a look back at the match and discuss the positives and the negatives of what they saw from the coach and the players.
In the second segment they share a conversation that Mike Anderer had at training with NYCFC draft-pick and rookie-signing, Malachi Jones.
Also stick around until the end of the show to learn how you can win a “Backer” level subscription to the newly updated Hudson River Blue.
Episode 441:
For much of the offseason NYCFC fans and pundits were focused on the roster for NYCFC. Who was going to be signed to bulster the thin attack and replace the goals scored from the likes of Castellanos, Heber and Pereira? Well David Lee signed some attackers and while they all haven’t arrived and be able to put their mark on the field there is light at the end of the tunnel for the fans. But perhaps the one position on the team that needs the most help isn’t between the white lines, but just outside of them in the technical area. Nick Cushing has brought in Leon Hapgood to be an assistant for NYCFC and that might be just the addition that the team has been waiting for.
This week Mike, J.R. and Mike Allen look back at the 1-0 loss to Charlotte FC on the weekend and focus primarily of what they hope will change as the team heads on the road to an equally challenging place to play in St Louis.
In the middle segment, Shjon and Chris from the River City Ramble join the show to give us their analysis in St Louis City FC and the keys that have made that team such a strong competitor so early in their creation as a franchise.
Episode 440:
Is Nick Cushing Mister Consistency? Not based on his 2023 lineup decisions but this is 2024. NYCFC has a roster that he had a strong hand in shaping so now is the time for Nick to show us his true colors.
This week Mike, J.R. and Mike Allen discuss the last elements of preseason. They try to do their best at setting some over/under lines for some fun competition, but let’s face it, they’re pretty bad at it, hopefully it is at the very least some fun thought starter conversation.
2024 is finally upon us. Thanks to all of the listeners over the years! We are all extremely excited to get season 10 underway.
Episode 439:
This week Mike Anderer and J.R. DeBart welcome Andrew Leigh from Hudson River Blue on the show as the three discuss the NYCFC preseason matches that were streamed from Indio, CA.
Andrew also gives a deeper look into his conversation with former NYCFC legend, Maxime Chanot, as they discuss the creation of La Fabrique Academy which opens in March of this year.
Episode 438:
NYCFC starts its next and final phase of preseason with the Coachella Valley Invitational out in Indio California. The three games will prove an interesting test for the head coach and the players as they try to balance honing the tactics for 2024 while still awaiting the arrival of key pieces of the squad. One thing is for certain, this is Nick’s squad of players. While the roster has not turned over 100% from when he assumed the interim role back in 2022, the core of his preferred starters are all players that the coach has had a hand in making sure they are on his roster.
This week Mike, J.R. and Mike Allen talk about the new signings and pontificate on what this season might look like for NYCFC with the addition on some new talent especially in the area of attack.
Episode 437:
If you’re confused by the title of this week’s episode you can catch a great quote about the acronym in the movie Memphis Belle.
NYCFC continues to go through their preseason routine and routine seems to be a very appropriate term. There simply does not feel like there is anything new or exciting about the team a full two weeks into the preseason and less than a month away from their first match of 2024.
This week Mike and J.R. welcome Chris Campbell to the show. Yes, Chris gives an in depth update on the stadium progress, but the stadium is part of the long-term vision and plans of the club and to thrive in NY, the team needs to be competitive. The guys try to find some silver linings in the roster construction progress.
Episode 436:
Most January’s are fairly quiet for NYCFC. But when you are coming off the worst season in your club’s history following the status quo is not the best look for the Front Office. On the first day of the 2024 MLS Pre-season the team was a flurry of signings and strong rumors.
This week Mike, J.R. deBart and Mike Allen return for their 10th season giving insight and analysis to NYCFC.
A huge thanks to all of the listeners and followers that are part of the NYCFC family for sticking with us all these years. Whether you listen every week, once a month, once a season or once every ten, you are appreciated.
Episode 435:
David Lee owes Don Garber a huge debt of gratitude. The announcement from MLS to pull it’s teams from the 2024 US Open Cup quickly captured the narrative in the US Soccer landscape. Even NYCFC fans that were clamoring for news of players coming in January and February moved their attention to the tournament that has brought so much shame and embarrassment to the club in its history.
This week Mike and JR and then Mike and Mike Allen share their thoughts on MLS v US Open Cup and then dive into the stories about MLS 2024 regular season.
Episode 434:
If you missed Blue Christmas this year check out the YouTube channel for NYCFC The City Boys Show and find their great video from the night.
This week Mike, J.R. and Mike Allen discuss MLS Cup 2023 and say “goodbye” to the Season of Vibes.

Episode 433:

The guys also discuss the Sustainability Plans that were released by NYCFC in regards to the stadium project.
Remember that the live broadcast of Blue Christmas will take place next week, Tuesday, November 28 at 7:30pm at Ryan’s Daughter in the Upper East Side.
Episode 432:
The MLS Cup Playoffs roll on, but with NYCFC not participating the guys talk about a myriad of subjects including Emma Hayes being rumored to take over as head coach for the US Women’s National team.
Eventually Mike, J.R. and Mike Allen do discuss the NYCFC roster announcement and the message sent to NYCFC fans about the 2024 season.
Mike Anderer also shares the raw audio at the end of the show from the first exchange he from 2015 with Khiry Shelton.
Episode 431:
The day would eventually come. The possibly lingered in the distance like a mirage in the desert. Was NYCFC going to keep their playoff appearance streak alive? No.
Now comes the reset. The team will continue to train for the next few weeks as the MLS Cup Playoffs roll on, but all of the sweat and determination will be steps towards success in 2024.
This week Mike, J.R. and Mike Allen tie a bow on the NYCFC season. They also include post-game audio from the locker room in CitiField from Birk Risa, Andres Jasson, Christian McFarlane, Keaton Parks and James Sands.
Episode 430:
If you haven’t brushed up on your Shakespeare the title of this week’s episode is a quote from Hamlet. The quote was chosen because a recurring theme from NYCFC this season has been the indecisiveness of head coach, Nick Cushing. The lineups were constantly changing. The tactics were always being tweaked. The only consistent aspect of the team’s play was their set piece defending, which quite honestly, given the change in personnel, should have been altered.
This week Mike, J.R. (briefly) and Mike Allen are joined by Christian Smith of Five Borough Footy and by Adam and Justin from The Post 90 podcast to discuss the biggest issues that NYCFC faced during this bleak 2023 season.
Episode 429:
NYCFC and Nick Cushing knew going to Miami was going to be an important challenge on their bid to make the MLS Cup Playoffs. They were given some glimmers of hope as two of Miami’s bigger stars remained injured and unavailable for the contest.
It’s the hope that can kill you.
This week Mike Anderer and Mike Allen look back at Saturday’s match and just what went wrong for the Boys In Blue.
Episode 428:
NYCFC took all six points this week at home against a very strong Orlando team and a completely opposite woeful Toronto.
Nick Cushing used Talles Magno and Mounsef Bakrar in the attack for the first time on Wednesday and then again on Sunday. It’s the first time the attacking duo shared the field and the results were a much needed relief for NYCFC fans and the coaches alike.
This week Mike, J.R. and Mike Allen are back to discuss the two games and ponder what it means for the Boys In Blue as they approach the home stretch of the season. There’s also post game audio from Matt Freese, Tayvon Gray, Richy Ledezma and Mounsef Bakrar.
Episode 427:
Since the introduction of NYCFC into Major League Soccer in 2015 the rivalry matches between NYCFC and Red Bull have always been special games filled with drama, tension, and memorable moments.
This past weekend in Yankee Stadium the script changed and a toothless NYCFC wasted nearly an hour of the match without recording a single shot against the opponent. In what most fans and pundits determined was a must-win match for both sides, Nick Cushing seemed to be playing for the draw from the opening whistle. Cushing has often in the past said, “games are won and lost in key moments” and it was clear based on the in-game choices that the gaffer was avoiding at all costs a defensive lapse that would result in the loss over the risk taking necessary to earn the full three points.
This week Mike Anderer and Mike Allen welcome John Baney (@thePigeonsNYCFC) from Hudson River Blue to breakdown the game, discuss what options and decisions support their opinions and other stories around the league.
Episode 426:
There were times when earning four points in a week would be considered a positive for NYCFC. There were times when a back-up rookie striker with two goals and less than 500 minutes would be considered a non-story.
In 2023 as the team sits on 30 points with six games to go and with the only true striker on the team not being 90 minutes fit, neither of those two statements can be considered acceptable by the team or its fanbase.
This week Mike, J.R. DiBart and Mike Allen look back at the amorphous NYCFC roster and the last two home games in Yankee Stadium.
There’s postgame audio from Nick Cushing, Birk Risa, Mounsef Bakrar, Tayvon Gray, Matt Freese, Kevin O’Toole, and Justin Haak.
Episode 425: I’m a little confused about what to write. There’s a sense of disbelief about the announcement from today. It’s a sensation we all recognize. That pause when we ask ourselves, “Is this really happening?” Yes, the longest tenured player for NYCFC has abruptly left the club to return to Corsica. Just shy of … Continue reading The Legend of Maxime / Ep 425 / Blue City Radio →
Episode 424: Mike Allen returns to the NYCFC press box and to Blue City Radio. The relationship between Mike and NYCFC head coach, Nick Cushing, has improved greatly since the last time the two met tet-a-tet in the Citi Field press conference room, but the results are eerily similar. NYCFC continues to get the chances … Continue reading Rinse and Repeat, the NYCFC Way Of Losing Under Cushing / Ep 424 / Blue City Radio →
Episode 423: This past week was a tough one for NYCFC fans. Add to that the loss of the US Women’s National team to Sweden and it compounds the misery. Only the return of NYCFC legend, Maxi Moralez, can lessen the blow to fans. This week Paul Harvey (@Thundering165) and Chris Campbell (@SoupInNY27) from The … Continue reading The Outfield Take Over BCR / Ep 423 / Blue City Radio →
Episode 422: You’re not dreaming. NYCFC actually thumped an opponent. Granted it was Toronto, but former NYCFC captain, Sean Johnson, was in net for the Reds, so the level of enjoyment is high. The victory also meant that NYCFC should advance in the Leagues Cup, which they did after Atlas defeated Toronto on Sunday. This … Continue reading Hanging With the City Boys / Ep 422 / Blue City Radio →
Episode 421: League’s Cup has arrived. NYCFC hosted Atlas on Sunday at CitiField and that’s not even the biggest news story of the week. Forward Gabriel Pereira departed the team the day before to continue his playing career in Qatar. This week Mike welcomes Christian Smith from Five Borough Footy and John Baney of NYCFC … Continue reading Gabby Gabby Gone / Ep 421 / Blue City Radio →
Episode 420: The criticism might sound too harsh. NYCFC held more of the ball on Saturday at Subaru Park. NYCFC created more goal scoring chances in the game. In the end, the two goals they conceded made the team appear very weak. Ultimately, it is a match most NYCFC fans and the team will quickly … Continue reading NYCFC Are Embarrassed In Philly / Ep 420 / Blue City Radio →
Episode 419: It was another week for NYCFC with two consecutive draws. Nick Cushing’s squad was hopeful to build off the momentum of the first road win away in Montreal but a poor clearance by defender, Justin Haak, in the Charlotte game would prove to be costly. NYCFC did earn a point in that match … Continue reading The Justin Haak Redemption Curve / Ep 419 / Blue City Radio →
Episode 418: Everyone knew the moment would come eventually. Everyone knew that NYCFC would not go the rest of the regular season winless, but the streak kept creeping along, through May and then through most of June. This week Mike Anderer and Mike Allen jump on the microphones to discuss the victory from Stade Saputo … Continue reading True Story: NYCFC Gets a Win / Ep 418 / Blue City Radio →
Episode 417: Nick Cushing’s haters are growing louder and louder as NYCFC continues to look for the next victory. Now winless in eleven MLS matches and hovering at the bottom of the Eastern Conference table, the team came within three minutes of a victory this past week in Atlanta. The draw from down south was … Continue reading Keeping the Status Quo / Ep 417 / Blue City Radio →
Episode 419: The issues with the roster are real. The mistakes by the team on the field are real. Missing key players due to injury and international duty is a real barrier to getting results. Despite all those factors the excuse making from Nick Cushing is wearing the fanbase down and it’s curious to wonder … Continue reading NYCFC Are Stuck In Neutral / Ep 416 / Blue City Radio →
Episode 415: We would be fools if we didn’t talk a little about Lionel Messi and the impact he will have on the league. It doesn’t mean we have the best takes on the subject, but we get some thoughts out there for the listeners to consider on the subject. In the second segment Mike, … Continue reading Miami Adds a 10, NYCFC Adds a Point / Ep 415 / Blue City Radio →
Episode 414: We have heard the criticism that the episodes need to be tighter, but in a week when NYCFC plays two matches with so many talking points, there is only so much trimming that we can do. This week Mike, J.R. Debart and Mike Allen talk about the key points from a week when … Continue reading Villarreal vs NYCFC, NYCFC Fans vs Players, Cushing Feeling the Pressure / Ep 414 / Blue City Radio →
Episode 413:
First let’s lead with our mistakes. In the opening of the episode there is an excerpt from the commentary from Saturday night’s MLS Season Pass broadcast. The commentator is Devon Kerr, but Mike Anderer wrongfully attributes the segment to Devon’s play-by-play co-host, Tyler Terens.
What is most important might not actually be who says the line, but what is said about NYCFC. It is a damning testament to simply how mediocre and milquetoast this team has become since Nick Cushing took the reigns.
This week Mike Anderer and Mike Allen welcome Andrew Leigh from Hudson River Blue to the show for a conversation about what NYCFC can do to help themselves become relevant in the Eastern Conference.
Episode 412:
This is a personal favorite episode for Producer and Host Mike Anderer. It is a favorite because it is an evergreen episode. Yes, there is conversation about the game of the week and some details that will put a virtual timestamp on the episode, but overall this is a broad stroke conversation about NYCFC and the club’s impact on two reporters that have been part of the media landscape since the very beginning.
This week Mike Anderer and J.R. DeBart invite Trey Fillmore from Blue Balls Podcast on as a guest. During the episode the three discuss the recently released stadium renderings, the most current MLS Players Salary data and of course the draw in Orlando, but the most important segment is the dive into the early stages of covering NYCFC. Blue City Radio and Blue Balls Podcast share the unique honor of being the earliest podcasts and dedicated media sources covering NYCFC.
Episode 411:
The struggles for NYCFC on the road continued and the frustration from Nick Cushing is showing. The coach was tense in the press conference following the team’s fourth consecutive loss in a row on the road in all competitions.
This week the guys let all of their frustrations out and look at what NYCFC needs to do in order to get better results on the road with the roster they currently have.
Episode 410:
This week NYCFC continued their season long trend of conceding goals via set pieces. What was once an advantage for the team is now their achilles heal.
The guys breakdown yet another devastating loss and again at the hands of newcomers to the league Charlotte FC.
In the middle segment Jake Zivin joins the show to talk NYCFC and share his memories from the 2021 MLS Cup in Portland.
Episode 409:
NYCFC fans were hopeful that the team would carry their home form momentum on the road for their first of five road games over the next month. Unfortunately a late injury to Gabriel Pereira and the insertion of Kevin O’Toole to the starting lineup would be enough change for NYCFC to disrupt the chemistry.
Despite abysmal play in the first half, the away side would be even at the half time, but the scoreline would change quickly.
This week Mike and Mike Allen give a deep dive into the 1-0 loss and share some of the postgame audio.
In the second segment the guys welcome MLS play-by-play announcer, Tyler Terens (@TNTerens) to give his thoughts on NYCFC and joining the Apple TV broadcast team.
Episode 408:
This week NYCFC hosted FC Dallas in their last game of the three game homestand and their last game before playing four on the road so a result was critical. Nick Cushing had a tough decision to make after Richy Ledezma put in a stellar performance against Nashville the week earlier. Where would Santi play?
Gabe Segal gave way after three consecutive starts to the DP as he took his first shot as the striker and the gamble paid off.
This week Mike and J.R. welcome Jake Ritter and Justin Egan to the show to discuss the win from CitiField as well as a look ahead against Toronto.
Episode 407:
The Boys from the Bronx began their relocation process to the borough of Queens. For the first time since announcing the proposed location on their own soccer specific stadium, NYCFC hosted a game in CitiField and it was a party.
NYCFC got their first win against Nashville SC and they did it in front of a raucous crowd that included an exuberant Mayor Adams and Councilman Moya.
This week Mike, JR and Mike Allen welcome two guests to the show. The first is John Baney from Area Sports Network and Hudson River Blue. The second is match analyst for MLS, Devon Kerr.
Episode 406:
NYCFC earned a point at home against Atlanta United in a tough fought physical match. The Boys In Blue were disappointed not to earn all three points after going up a man in the second half, but Atlanta’s proven this year to be a tough opponent for all in the early stages of the season.
This week Mike, J.R. and Mike Allen invite MLS color commentator, Kyndra de St. Aubin to the show to get her insights on NYCFC and the first quarter of the MLS season.
In the final segment the guys break down the draw in the Bronx and share audio from the locker room post game.
Episode 45:
It is never easy to get a result on the road in Major League Soccer. Even more difficult in certain stadia. NYCFC fans should know that more than most after seeing the Boys From the Bronx collect more points at home than any other MLS team since 2016.
This week NYCFC took a deserved point away at New England, although Rev’s head coach, Bruce Arena, might disagree.
Mike, J.R. and Mike Allen take a deep dive into the 1-1 draw from the weekend and discuss other team updates.
Episode 404:
NYCFC played an uninspiring game on Saturday in Houston, TX. Yes, it was against a Ben Olsen lead team but nonetheless NYCFC’s attack was void of many close chances and their lone shot on goal was taken by Tayvon Gray in the 91 minute.
Luckily for the listeners Mike, J.R. and Chris Campbell were joined this week by MLS’s own, Jillian Sakovits. Jillian joins the show to give the guys a look behind the scenes of MLS and the content they are creating for Apple TV.
Episode 403:
NYCFC came out for their second home game of the season and blitzed DC United for the first half, but a resilient performance allowed the visitors a late chance at earning a road point.
This week Mike and Mike Allen welcome Ronny Tapia from The Soccer Subs Podcast on the show to discuss the week in MLS and the result from Saturday in the Bronx.
Episode 402:
NYCFC remains undefeated in home openers at Yankee Stadium after sending Inter Miami home pointless on the weekend.
This week Mike, J.R. and Mike Allen give their thoughts on the game that offered some good chances for the home squad, but just the lone own goal to separate the clubs. The recap also includes post-game audio from James Sands, Mitja Ilenic, Luis Barraza, Alfredo Morales, Andres Jasson and Tayvon Gray.
Blue City Radio welcomes a very special guest on the show as NYCFC Head Coach, Nick Cushing, calls into the show and tells his story to the guys.
Episode 401:
NYCFC played their second game of the 2023 season and it was a 1-1 draw in Chicago. While the result and the progression of play was important the real story of the week was the return of two Championship caliber players, James Sands and Santi Rodriguez.
But even that is not the headline of this week’s episode. The real treat for listeners and NYCFC fans is the interview in the second segment as Joe Tolleson and Ian Joy reunite on the microphones to chat NYCFC with the guys.
In the final segment Mike, J.R. and Mike Allen share their recap of the draw from Chicago and also listen to a brief interview captured at training with Andres Jasson.
Episode 400:
This week Mike, J.R. and Mike Allen start the show discussing NYCFC’s season opening loss to Nashville SC, but the most important part of this show is segment two.
Mike Anderer and Mike Allen were invited along with several other members of the media into NYCFC’s offices for interviews with Brad Sims ahead of the team’s City In the Community Homecoming Dinner event. The middle segment features two unedited sessions with Brad as he fields questions on numerous topics about the Apple TV partnership, the stadium and the future of NYCFC as a club.
Episode 399:
Last week Nick Cushing was pressed to clarify who he feels will be the starting keeper for NYCFC for the game this week against Nashville. Instead of clearing the air the coach added more layers to the controversy.
In this episode Mike and Mike Allen take a look at the big storylines for the club heading into the opening weekend. In the second segment Michele Giannone from TUDN gives the guys his thoughts on who will win the Eastern Conference this year, and spoiler alert, it’s not NYCFC.
Episode 398:
This week is all about the guys giving you their predictions and over/unders for the upcoming season. We hope you enjoy the show.
Episode 397:
The preseason for NYCFC continues on in California, but the lack of a complete roster is a struggle for Nick Cushing and the team as they prepare for the 2023 season.
This week Mike, J.R. deBart and Mike Allen discuss the latest press conference from the team and their friendly against the LA Galaxy.
In the second segment the guys discuss some of the Premier League stories that might impact NYCFC or the USMNT.
Episode 396:
This week is all about the numbers. The guys welcome for the first time on the show Paul Harvey (@thundering165) from The Outfield to breakdown NYCFC’s 2023 roster rebuild.
They also discuss the team’s first press conference of the new year and other news in the world of soccer, but really this episode is about the stats.
Episode 395:
That’s not a misspelling. “The Hero Of Haarlem” is the title of a story many know by description, if not by name. It’s the fable story of the Dutch boy that saves his village by placing his finger in the dike and holding back the water until help can arrive. It’s a fitting tale as NYCFC starts their ninth year in MLS. The roster is decimated by transfers and free agency. The coach is entering his first full season at the helm and the spine of the team is a mere shadow of the Championship squad from two years ago.
This week the guys are back to breakdown the major changes and attempt to look ahead at what this season might bring for the Boys in Blue.
Episode 394:
The turnover on the NYCFC roster has begun and it is full of surprises. Fans have come to expect some players to move on and after winning the championship in 2021 the value of some players was at its highest. This year the change is looking to be more drastic than in the past and it’s not even January yet.
This week in the final episode of 2022 the guys look at the changes coming and the evolution of Nick Cushing’s first full roster.
Episode 393:
The soccer world and the sports world mourned Friday night as the word spread that iconic journalist, Grant Wahl, died while in Qatar covering the World Cup.
This week Mike, J.R. Debart and Mike Allen welcome Jon Sanchez from the NYCFC Forever Podcast on the show. Together they talk about Grant Wahl’s passing, the experience of being in Qatar for the World Cup and the drama unfolding around the USMNT.
Episode 392:
The USMNT put up a good fight, but in the end the young squad of Americans looked like boys playing against the men of the Netherlands. Some costly poorly timed mistakes were the difference between advancing and packing your bags.
This week Mike, J.R. and Mike Allen take a moment to look back at last year and the anniversary of the Eastern Conference Final against Philadelphia and the week leading up to MLS Cup.
Then the guys put a bow on the USMNT in Qatar.
Episode 391: It was a draw that felt like a loss to Wales on Monday, followed by a draw that felt like a win versus England on Friday. Now the US is in a must-win position as they face Iran. This week the guys put … Continue reading A Cushing Defeat / Ep 387 / Blue City Radio →
