February 8th 2002 is a somber day. It's the day Matt Ivie passed away and I had to announce it on the radio after broadcasting a game.

Matt Ivie passed away on February 8th 2002.
This is how we broke the sad news on AM 970 ESPN RADIO. It was a Friday night and I was filling in for Matt as the Play-by-Play announcer for CSU Stanislaus basketball. The Warriors beat UC San Diego and then I had to break the news...
I saw Matt the day he died. A group of radio people went to his house to visit with him. Matt was on his death bed after a 2 year battle with cancer.
I will never forget seeing him and hugging him that day.
He died 4 hours later with his wife and 4 children at his bedside.

This is the first game in my career as a play-by-play announcer. I was filling in for Matt Ivie, who was battling cancer and was unable to travel to the Bay Area.

Brian is the long-time 'Play-by-Play' voice of the Portland Trailblazers and worked for the Sacramento Kings in the mid-90's

Vintage sports-talk segment from October 15th 2003 - Jim Wells and Demitrius Snear give their thoughts on the Steve Bartman fan interference incident from the night before.
The Steve Bartman incident was a controversial play that occurred during a baseball game between the Chicago Cubs and the Florida Marlins on October 14, 2003, at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois, during Major League Baseball's (MLB) 2003 postseason.
Along with other spectators seated against the wall, Cubs fan Steve Bartman reached for the ball, but he deflected it, disrupting Alou's potential catch. If Alou had caught the ball, it would have been the second out in the inning, and the Cubs would have been just four outs away from winning their first National League pennant since 1945. The Cubs ultimately allowed eight runs in the inning, and lost the game 8–3. When they were eliminated in Game 7 the next day, the incident was seen as the "first domino" to fall in affecting the series's outcome.[1]

He joined me to promote the California Sports Hall Of Fame (The inaugural class in 2007)
Christian has a great story and is a fun guest.
Nicknamed the "Nigerian Nightmare," Okoye was known for his powerful running style and ability to break tackles. Okoye's six seasons in the NFL saw a league rushing title in 1989, first-team All-Pro honors (1989), two Pro Bowl appearances (1989, 1991), and three playoff appearances.
