Throughout history there are many inspiring stories of people persevering against all odds and achieving incredible feats. The New Testament writers challenge us to approach our Christian journey as a race. This race is not one where we must win at all costs, live in perpetual triumph over adversity or pace ourselves according to worldly standards. We are called to complete the race with perseverance in our faith. We can persevere when we cast away all that hinders us in the race, like sin, draw our strength from Christ and focus on Jesus as our ultimate eternal reward

Week 2 of our new Shape of Leadership series. What foundational leadership principles can we learn from the life of Abraham? How can our leadership be a blessing to others?

n the chaos of our modern world, how do we stay emotionally healthy and spiritually alive? It’s a question that Scripture actually provides a template for helping frame up how we could ‘truly live’ When we focus in on the life of Jesus we see his example lived highlights; slowing down over pace, embracing rest over rush, hush over hustle. Modern life grates against this Jesus pace because it has a tempo and intensity that subverts every well-intentioned attempt to live the Jesus way. Join us as we recalibrate and reset the patterns of Living, and recreate an uncluttered path to help us truly live and do life His way

Why is it that sometimes what we think about God and believe about scripture doesn’t lead to a positive result in our lives? Leaving us disappointed with God. The Christian has always contended with a number of doctrines, philosophies or well-intentioned ideas that can totally frustrate our relationship with God. Let’s call these things “Crazy Makers” These ideas may be well-intentioned but others are simply evil. So we need to be aware of what can make our faith in God go a bit crazy. Or even cause us to be false witnesses about God. So this year our Summer series is called “Crazy Makers”.

The church in Corinth was in trouble. They were divided. They were immature. They were abusing the sacraments, spiritual gifts, and each other. The apostle Paul had founded this church earlier (Acts 18), and when he hears of the young church’s struggles, he writes them a letter. And it’s a bold one. He tackles the issues the church faces, reprimands them for their shortcomings, and encourages them in love. First Corinthians is not a step-by-step guide to solving church problems, however. Instead of telling the church precisely what to do, Paul proposes a new perspective: put God’s glory first. It’s the key to overcoming these struggles.

Many new believers over the centuries have asked the same question, was the man called Jesus Christ just an egomaniac and misguided fool, or a simple teacher who was indeed the Son of God. In a world plagued by prosperity preachers and spiritual celebrities who can often offer a pseudo-Christianity that is more palatable, 1st John offers an alternative narrative, that stings and offends a modern conscience. Is Jesus God! Did he come to save sinners like me? Does God care about me? Come and See. "One generation believes something. The next assumes it. And the third will forget and deny it." (D.A. Carson)

These days it’s easy to see life the way we want to. We can filter our images, pick the news we want to hear, and listen only to the viewpoints that agree with us. When we do that, we start to distort our view of the world. The same thing can happen to our view of God. We reshape our perception of Him into what we want to believe, or what we want to think about others. Jesus came to bring us the truth about God and His plan for us, and it doesn’t always sound like what you may think. This series cuts through the noise of the world’s perceptions of Jesus and what it means to follow Him, in ways that may be surprising to some people. It plays off the idea of memes as jokes, rhetorical devices, and sources of misinformation to debunk popular misconceptions and bring clear truth.

God engages us even when we are in the depths of our sin, and he calls us to return to him for forgiveness and restoration. As we journey along the path of God’s holy way we will lose heart and stumble; however, God graciously provides strength and endurance for us. Charles Spurgeon, the great English preacher of the nineteenth century, once said, “I have learned to kiss the waves that throw me up against the Rock of Ages.” When we encounter trials that are beyond our strength, or weaknesses within that tempt us to quit our race, we should instead be grateful for the continual reminder that our only hope while on this journey is complete and total dependence on the grace and strength of God.

Putting our faith in Jesus means that eternal life begin here on earth and never ends. Jesus tells us that our most creative minds cannot even bring us close to understanding what awaits us when we die. Jesus speaks of the impossible when he says: “No eye has seen, no ear has heard and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.” 1 Corinthians 2:9.

Then something supernatural unfolds within the story of their lives.

“Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, and he began to teach them.” —Matthew 5:1-2

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus addresses prayer, marriage, and the narrow gate. He describes the eternal impact of loving our enemies and giving to the needy. Jesus uses his words to paint a picture and set a standard for what living as we’re called to be ought to look like. We see a glimmer of the Kingdom we were created for.

And in that glimmer, we not only see just how far from the mark we are, but also the blameless Savior who fulfills every law on our behalf because we can’t on our own.

Jesus is the source of our true hope. Without him, it’s Hopeless.

The resurrection of Jesus from his grave is the most vital and pivotal point of the whole gospel event. Without the resurrection we could have a saviour who died for our sins. But we wouldn’t have the same certainty without Jesus’ resurrection. The resurrection secures this divine transaction. Taking Jesus from paying the price of sin to overcoming sin and death by his defeat of the grave.

The apostle Paul knew that the resurrection was critical. He wrote strongly to those in Corinth who disputed that the resurrection took place.

Christmas, it’s a day that changed the world forever – it’s a day where hope entered our world. But what about the story that led us to this incredible event? What would it have been like for Mary & Joseph, as they journeyed to Bethlehem with the promises relayed to them by Angels still ringing in their ears? What would it have felt like to be there that night? To be a shepherd on the hill, confronted by the sight of a heavenly host. Come and join us in a special Christmas Eve service as we explore the story that leads to the birth of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. It will be a night filled with carols and storytelling, a time for us to gather as families and celebrate together the coming of the New Born King.

Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing. I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified.

No other king could vanquish the warhorse, or silence the warrior’s rage, riding the lowly back of a donkey. No other king could break the dominion of darkness, the tyranny of evil, with a reign of grace and a kingdom of peace. No other king would give his life for the redemption of rebels, his wealth to welcome the outcast. Jesus is that King—the King of glory, Son of the living God. Come and join us for the final Worship Night of the year. Come and encounter our true King!

For the past 2000 years, the church has done a sacred exchange. As each generation grows older, they must learn how to hand over the reigns of the church to the new younger leaders. Let’s go back to that very first exchange; where Paul begins his final letter. A life time of experience and wisdom reaches out: “Dear Tim…”

When you're going on an adventure, what do you pack? Do you pack the essentials or a bunch of random things that you don't really need? We can end up doing the same thing with our faith. Our new series, "Traveling Light", is going to be an incredible journey through the book of James. So get ready, pack your bags, grab your passports and make sure your tray tables are in the upright position.

The Soapbox has always been a place to share what you’re passionate about. A skilled “soapboxer” had to be quick on his feet, figuratively and sometimes literally, having the ability to express opinions with clarity, be able to deflect hostility with humour or satire and to be ready to face difficulty or danger with courage. For the next few weeks, we’ll be providing a platform for people in our community to be able to share what fires them up, what God has placed on their heart.

For the next few weeks, we’ll be providing a platform for people in our community to be able to share what fires them up, what God has placed on their heart.

Join us on Sunday nights as we rediscover the power in those simple words: I'm Sorry.

It is a journey through gardens, dreams and oppression, with stories of kings, temples and broken promises. It draws us in as we look for the same redemption. This is His story. This is our Story. The Anawim are the poor people of the Old Testament. They can be found all over the world, but not all poor people are Anawim. Specifically, these are the people who look to God for everything. For whatever reason, they have experienced that life isn’t fair and that they shouldn’t expect their rights to be respected. They are strangers to people who have “made it” in this world. They do not belong to the kingdoms of this world because the kingdoms of this world haven’t accepted them. They are outcasts in the world of power, prestige, and possessions. The world pays no attention to them because they can’t be exploited for anything.  The Anawim usually have nothing that the world wants. They often live in total poverty. But they also live in total freedom. They are attached to nothing and no one, except God, their family, and a few people that they share life with. They have eyes to clearly see what is important.

The Bible is filled with sad scenarios that writers record for us, such as Psalms, Job, Lamentations and many others. As Christians its easy to ignore these parts of scripture and swap them out for the victorious living texts that pump us up in some way or other. This one sided diet is doesn't reflect life as we experience it. Sadness and despair is a common life experience even for those who are in Christ. What can we learn from this?

It can be so easy for us to see our faith like this, an inward private journey.  And while ‘Me and Jesus’ makes for a great slogan, it can sell the great message of Jesus a little bit short. In this next series we will be going through the book of Philippians, where Paul shows us that faith is so much bigger. That only by collaborating together, with God and one another, can we see the Gospel unleashed in our lives and our communities.

Prayer, does it roll off the tongue or get caught in your throat? Should it feel like a conversation or a quiet moment? Join us on Sunday nights as we go through His prayer, line by line, and learn how to speak with Our Father.

OK, it’s the status quo that we all want to be at. When we go outside we put on our game face so that everyone can be ok with us. Sadly, the church has sometimes been the place where its most expected that you be happy, blessed, and thriving, and that can create a huge gap when life doesn’t work out that nicely. Well, lets change that. Join us on Sunday mornings as we look at moments where Jesus intentionally connected with people who were not ok. Then on Sunday nights we will be look at specific topics that can be difficult to talk about, things like doubt, anxiety and depression. Then hopefully through both of these, we can encounter a Jesus who meets us where we are at, and lets us know its ok not to be ok.

Community is a gift from God. The church was God's idea. Calling us from where we were to become something far greater and bigger than ourselves. To be built up to become a holy temple in the Lord where Jesus is the head over all things.

1 Corinthians 12 is very clear about the role we all play to help keep the body of Christ healthy. Everyone of us have a gift that we bring into the body. Without you part of the body missing or not functioning to its potential. God has equipped you to be a blessing to God and others.

Church life can be taken for granted. But it's more than a meeting. It's where God chooses to dwell by his Holy Spirit. 'Let's not give up meeting together as some are in the habit of doing". (1 Corinthians 10:25). Church is the body of Christ and we all belong.
