Based on the influential Chinese novel Jin Ping Mei, Golden Lotus was developed in North America before premiering in Hong Kong in 2014 where it was filmed live. George Chiang is the acclaimed writer of Golden Lotus, winner of the Heckler’s Award for Best Original Work in Hong Kong. The feature film adaptation of Golden Lotus has secured over 60 international film awards, including Best Picture at the World Independent Cinema Awards in Edinburgh. As a multi-award-winning songwriter, director, and producer, George's works such as “A World Away (Remix)” have earned accolades like Best Song and Best Music Video. As an actor, George returns to the Stratford Festival this season to perform in Salesman in China.
Harriet Chung, born in Hong Kong, is a celebrated performer whose illustrious career includes groundbreaking roles in The Phantom of the Opera in Toronto and Cats in Hamburg. She starred in Golden Lotus, garnering numerous Best Actress awards internationally. Harriet’s debut single, “A World Away (Remix)”, won Best Original Song at the Hollywood Gold Awards, and her debut album, A World Away, has achieved critical acclaim. Her performances have earned her multiple Best Music Video awards. Harriet will make her Stratford Festival debut in 2024, performing in Salesman in China, continuing her streak of distinguished contributions to theatre and music.

Eddie Aronoff is a New York City film producer/distributor based in Moscow, Russia. He's the managing director of Stage Russia HD and Art Seen Films, with a specialty of bringing international filmed theatrical performances to cinemas and streaming platforms worldwide.In 2015, Aronoff founded Stage Russia HD in an attempt to share Russian theatre, with an eye towards bridging the cultural gap between East and West. In 2022, he launched Art Seen Films, adding Korean musicals to his roster of filmed performances, the first of which, "Phantom the Musical" featuring Kyuhyun, garnered strong reviews for its lavish film production values and galvanized musical theatre fans in the US, Canada, the EU, Mexico and Indonesia. Since the release of "Phantom", Art Seen Films has released "Werther the Musical" and in the coming months will be distributing three new K-Musicals, "Crash Landing on You", "Elisabeth" and “Hero".

Sam Boer is a musician, writer, and theatre practitioner. He and Jake Schindler co-founded The Uncommon Folk Collective: a group dedicated to crafting music-forward theatre experiences. Their first original show, Ursa: A Folk Musical, was praised by The Guardian as a "winning, foot-tapping account of grizzly adolescence" and has been presented through the Toronto Fringe’s NextStage Festival, the Stratford Festival’s online streaming platform, the Kingston Grand Theatre, and Tweed & Company Theatre. Sam also records off-kilter folk music under the name Samson Wrote. His debut album Pigeon (2019), garnered a Canadian Folk Music Award nomination and led to tours across Canada and Europe.

Host Luisa Lyons chats with Doug Reside, curator of the Billy Rose Theatre Division at the New York Public Library and author of Fixing the Musical: How Technology Shaped the Broadway Repertory, which looks at how the musicals that we remember, and the ones that are the most performed, are the musicals that were able to use the technologies of their time such as cast recordings, sheet music, and video, to document and share the work with those who would never see the original production on stage.
Doug shares his background in English and Computer Science, the challenges of preserving theatre history and the challenges of digital preservation, and we dive into his book Fixing the Musical and the fascinating history behind filming Broadway for public distribution, what needs to happen to make film recordings as ubiquitous as cast recordings, and how you can access the Theatre on Film and Tape Archive at the New York Public Library!
Doug Reside is the Curator of the Billy Rose Theatre Division at New York Public Library for the Performing Arts and manages all aspects of the division’s collections and public services. He joined NYPL in 2011 first as the digital curator for the performing arts before assuming his current position in 2014. Prior to joining NYPL, Reside served on the directorial staff of the Maryland Institute for Technology in the Humanities at the University of Maryland. He holds a PhD in English from the University of Kentucky.

Go behind the scenes of Kevin’s latest work, Castle Gillian: An Irish Tale, a full-length virtual reality musical. Kevin also shares the inspiring story of his grandma - Dame Mary Dale, how being an opera conductor led him to musical theatre, the differences between working in the classical world and musical theatre, and working on the capture of Cats!
Kevin Purcell is one of Australia’s most distinguished and awarded orchestral and opera conductors. Currently, Kevin serves as musical director for the Australian Discovery Orchestra – one of the world’s most innovative orchestral ensembles – whilst maintaining an active freelance career in the USA.
Kevin has previously been the musical director of the original production of CATS at the New London Theatre and for the South Korean Premiere production. More recently Kevin has conducted WICKED at London’s Apollo Victoria theatre and was the originating musical director for the first national UK/Eire tour. As a composer of musicals, Kevin has worked with his long-time collaborator, book writer and lyricist Victor Kazan on Rebecca, The Stranger from Seville and Castle Gillian.
He is a member of The Recording Academy and the Dramatists Guild. Kevin is managed by Francine Fletcher at Fletcher Associates (UK) and William Reinert Associates, Inc. (USA).

Oren Michaels is an entrepreneur, investor, board member, and advisor to technology startups in the US and internationally. As CEO, he co-founded Mashery in 2006, taking an idea on a napkin and $100k in seed funding through multiple venture and strategic funding rounds and acquisition by Intel. In the theater world, Oren is the former executive director and CEO of The Groundlings and serves on the board of Second Stage. He is co-producer of the upcoming Broadway musical Lempicka.

Ebony Vines is a writer, director, producer and the co-host of Theatre Geeks Anonymous. Ebony’s love of musical theatre was passed down from her late Mother who loved to watch musical movies with her daughter while grading her students' homework. After a long conversation with her friend Pamela about growing up a theater geek, obsessively listening to cast recordings and also loving true crime, they created the podcast Theatre Geeks Anonymous.
At a very young age, Pamela Shandrow knew she wanted to be an actress. It was at 10 years old, when she watched the PBS version of Into The Woods with Bernadette Peters, that she decided her future would be in musical theatre! Since then she’s performed in numerable regional shows, but is most proud of her work in the Broadway National Tours of Phantom of the Opera, and Wicked, as ensemble/Carlotta US and ensemble/Madame Morrible US respectively.

Host Luisa Lyons chats with performer and writer Alexandra Palting whose new solo musical 0874 A Filipino American Love Story recently played the She NYC Arts Summer Theater Festival, where the show won Best Score. The musical tells the story of when Alex’s college boyfriend moved across the country and her Lola (grandmother) showed her a grocery bag filled with hundreds of love letters from Alex’s grandfather.
Alex shares how her Lola inspired not only the show but Alex’s love of musical theatre, her unique vocal approach to writing her one woman show, the development of the show, and the process of performing in the She NYC Arts Summer Theater Festival.
Alexandra Palting is an actor and writer based in New York City. She is the performer, writer, lyricist and co-composer of 0874: A Filipino-American Love Story, a one-woman musical that tells the story of her grandparents’ courtship and immigration to the United States. The show premiered off-Broadway at the Connelly Theater during SheNYC Arts (Festival winner: Best Score) and was developed through The Kennedy Center’s Page-to-Stage residency. She has performed her music at venues including The Lincoln Theatre and Merriweather Post Pavilion and has sung at venues from the swing clubs of Baltimore to the Vatican. Favorite acting credits include CATF, Olney Theatre Center, Imagination Stage, Chesapeake Shakespeare Company, The Keegan Theatre, InterAct Theatre Co. and Shakespeare in Clark Park. Her on-camera work can be seen on "Law and Order," in independent films, and in productions for clients like Apple, the NIH, and Home Depot. Her work as an audiobook narrator can be heard anywhere from NYT Bestsellers at MacMillan Publishers to Microsoft. As a producer, she has raised over $60,000 for arts organizations that champion diverse voices and for nonprofits like Feeding America and RAINN that provided direct aid to vulnerable populations throughout the pandemic. Deborah Henson-Conant is a Grammy-Nominated composer & performer who combines stories and music in multiple genres from narrated concerts to song cycles, one-person musicals, operetta and musical.
Her full-length music special “Invention & Alchemy” in collaboration with the Grand Rapids Symphony, appeared on PBS stations throughout the U.S. and received a Grammy Nomination for Best Classical Crossover album. She’s performed and premiered her works internationally with orchestras and venues including Pittsburgh Symphony, Baltimore Symphony, Tacoma Symphony and Buffalo Philharmonic, Chicago Humanities Festival, Kennedy Center, Boston’s Lyric Stage and Central Square Theater.

Freya Catrin Smith and Jack Williams are award-winning composers and lyricists, and founders of Bottle Cap Theatre. Their work focuses on telling female led stories and includes musicals RIDE (The Garrick, 2021) and THE LIMIT (VAULT Festival 2019). They are the joint winners of Aria Entertainment and ALP's Chamber Musical commission (2021).
Their work has been performed at venues including: The Garrick, The Other Palace, The Roundhouse and The Leicester Square Theatre, and has been developed with drama schools including Central School of Speech and Drama and ArtsEd.
In 2021 Freya received a Michael Grandage Futures Bursary and took up a writing residency at Norwich Theatre Royal.

Pat Valera is a director, playwright, dramaturg, and producer for the stage currently based in the Philippines. He is a recipient of the Carlos Palanca Awards for Literature, Aliw Awards, Asian TV Awards, among others. In 2022, he staged his musical ‘Mula sa Buwan’ (From the Moon) under Barefoot Theatre Collaborative — an adaptation of Edmond Rostand’s Cyrano de Bergerac now set in World War 2 Philippines among young misfits, fools, and dreamers. That same year, the production embarked to create a proshot of the film which is now available for a global release.

John Lawrence "Jack" Canfora is an Award-Winning American playwright, actor, musician and teacher. After receiving his dramatic training at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, he began his career as an actor in regional theater, working mostly in Shakespearean roles such as Mercutio and Macbeth. He’s been hailed by the Associated Press as “White-hot Entertainment” for his off-Broadway plays including Poetic License, Place Setting, and Jericho, a New York Times “Critics Pick.” He was nominated along with Edward Albee, Elaine May, and Teresa Rebeck for The Newark Star Ledger’s Best Play, 2007. Jack is the recipient of two Edgerton Playwriting Awards, for Jericho (2010) and The Source (2018). He won the 2016 Webby Award for Best Writing in a Web Series. Jack is also the Artistic Director of New Normal Rep.

Joe Gfaller joined the Metro Theater Company team in 2019. During his tenure to date, Metro Theater Company has seen dramatic growth in both its audience base and its donor base. In partnership with Artistic Director Julia Flood, he has co-led the company through its recent evolutions during the COVID-19 pandemic, from its virtual programming to its safe return to live performances. Prior to joining the MTC team, Joe received national recognition for his work in building young, diverse, and national audiences for Opera Theatre of Saint Louis during his tenure as director of marketing and public relations – and for expanding OTSL’s civic footprint as the producer of the company’s Opera Tastings series, through artist community tours, and the creation and growth of its Engagement + Inclusion Task Force. His career has also included roles with the American Repertory Theater, the Alliance Theater, and 7 Stages, and consulting projects for the National Blues Museum, the Utah Symphony, and the documentary film Flint: The Poisoning of an American City. He has directed over two dozen professional or university productions, including regional premieres by David Mamet, Caryl Churchill, and others. A graduate of Harvard University, he also serves as adjunct faculty at Webster University in the Arts Management and Leadership MFA program.

Host Luisa Lyons chats with artistic director, writer, and director Sheldon Epps. Mr. Epps shares what it took to film his musicals Play On! and Blues in the Night, how theatre on television influenced his own career, and why we must continue to film live theatre for television.
Sheldon Epps has directed major productions on and off Broadway, in London and at many theatres across America. In addition, he has had an active television career helming some of the classic shows of recent years. He was the artistic director of the renowned Pasadena Playhouse for two decades, and currently serves as senior artistic advisor at historic Ford’s Theatre in Washington, D.C.
Mr. Epps new book, My Own Directions: A Black Man’s Journey in the American Theatre recounts his rollercoaster ride of a life in the theatre, with all the excitement and occasional anguish that come with the highs and lows. Alex shares his experience of creating theatre in the middle of a war, how ProEnglish Theatre has adapted and continued to make new work, as well as collaborate with artists and theatres from around the world.
ProEnglish Theatre is an independent theatre based in Kyiv, Ukraine. Following the Russian invasion into the Ukraine in February 2022, ProEnglish Theatre has served as a bomb shelter, a volunteer center, and a theatre. Despite the ever present threat of war, the company has continued to create new work, collaborated with theatres and artists in Japan, Taiwan, and Australia, performed at Prague Fest with an adaptation of The Book Thief, staged Pro.Act Fest — an international festival, and continued to teach theatre.

Kit Goldstein Grant is a composer, lyricist, librettist based in NYC. She likes to write musicals about topics ranging from the serious fallout of colonialist attitudes to giant noses running away. Her musical THE NOSE (that’s the one about the giant nose) has been produced several times in South Africa and NYC, and her musical THE GIANT HOAX had its NYC premiere at Theater Row. Kit has studied at Juilliard, the Tony-Award winning BMI Musical Theatre Writing Workshop, and holds a M.M. in Composition from Brooklyn College. Jay Kuo is the CEO of The Social Edge, a digital publishing and social media company based in New York City. While he worked as an attorney, Jay was an appellate litigator admitted to practice before the Ninth Circuit and U.S. Supreme Court.
Jay has served on the boards of the Northern California ACLU and the Bay Area Lawyers Individual Freedom, and he argued the first Ninth Circuit challenge to the military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy. Jay currently serves on the national board of the Human Rights Campaign, the nation’s oldest and largest civil rights organization serving the LGBTQ+ community.

Laura Kay Clark is a New York City-based actress, singer, writer, content creator, and puppeteer. Originally from Ohio, Laura moved to New York in 2013 to attend the prestigious Actors Studio Drama School, where she obtained her MFA in Acting in 2016. Laura has performed in a variety of plays and musicals in the NYC area, and has found a lot of fulfillment creating her own work. In 2016, she premiered her one woman show, I Kissed Your Boyfriend: Another Feminist Rant, off-Broadway at the United Solo Theatre Festival. Laura created, wrote, produced, and starred in the family-friendly puppet series Petunia’s Playhouse, which has been sweeping festivals and has won several honors, including Best Web Series at the NYC International Fringe Festival. Laura recently adapted Petunia's Playhouse for the stage with composer Billy Recce. Laura co-founded the independent production company Party Claw Productions with NYC Artist Ashley Kristeen Vega, and their inaugural film Wide Eyed has gained recognition at several film festivals. Laura infuses all of her work with authenticity and humor. She hopes to end the stigma surrounding mental health and promote body positivity and inclusiveness in all of her work. Freya Smith and Jack Williams are award-winning composers and lyricists, and founders of Bottle Cap Theatre. Their work focuses on telling female led stories and includes musicals RIDE (The Garrick, 2021) and THE LIMIT (VAULT Festival 2019). They are the joint winners of Aria Entertainment and ALP's Chamber Musical commission (2021).
Their work has been performed at venues including: The Garrick, The Other Palace, The Roundhouse and The Leicester Square Theatre, and has been developed with drama schools including Central School of Speech and Drama and ArtsEd.
In 2021 Freya received a Michael Grandage Futures Bursary and took up a writing residency at Norwich Theatre Royal.

Liza Magtoto is a playwright and freelance scriptwriter, a member of The Writer’s Bloc and an artist-teacher of the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA). Recent works include “Rak of Aegis,” “Rated PG,” “A Game of Trolls” and “Care Divas.” A recipient of Gawad Buhay! and the Gawad Pambansang Alagad ni Francisco Balagtas, Liza also won the Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature, and three of her award-winning plays are published in Bienvenida de Soltera, an anthology of her earlier works.

Host Luisa Lyons chats with Filipino-American artist Lourds Lane - book writer, composer, lyricist, arranger, and violin-playing co-star of the new rock musical SuperYou. The musical was scheduled to open off-Broadway in May 2020, but was postponed due to the pandemic. Host Luisa Lyons chats with Eliza Jackson, an Australian producer based in the UK whom The Stage recently listed as one of the Top 100 Theatre Makers of 2020.
We chat about making the switch from acting to producing, the joys and challenges of producing virtual theatre content during the pandemic, paying artists during lockdown, the future of streaming, what it means to make theatre during this time, and Lambert Jackson Productions streams of The Last Five Years, Songs for A New World, [title of show], and the upcoming I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change.
Australian born Eliza trained in Musical Theatre at the prestigious NIDA (National Institute of Dramatic Art) in Sydney. She moved to London in 2012 and since then, has worked in the theatre industry both on and off stage.
In 2018, Lambert Jackson Productions was born and their first project was to take Eliza’s one-woman show to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The show, The Voice Behind the Stars received 5-star reviews across the board and was then toured around Australia with much success. On her return, she took on the role of Creative Director of Lambert Jackson full time.

Paul Gordon was nominated for a 2001 Tony Award for composing the music and lyrics to the musical Jane Eyre. He won the 2015 Jeff Award for Best New Work for his book, music and lyrics for Sense and Sensibility, commissioned by Chicago Shakespeare Theatre. His critically acclaimed stage musicals, EMMA and PRIDE AND PREJUDICE are available to stream on Amazon Prime. He is the recipient of the 2009 Ovation Award for his music and lyrics to Daddy Long Legs which has had productions all over the world, including Off-Broadway, where it was nominated for 2 Drama Desk Awards, an Off-Broadway Alliance Award and 3 Outer Critic Circle awards. Daddy Long Legs was also the first off-Broadway musical to be livestreamed. No One Called Ahead was filmed and released in June of 2019. Knight’s Tale, written with John Caird, opened at the Imperial Theatre in Tokyo in 2018 while the concert version debuted in 2020 with the Tokyo Philharmonic. His other shows include: Being Earnest, Estella Scrooge: A Christmas Carol with a Twist, Analog and Vinyl, Stellar Atmospheres, The Front, Juliet and Romeo, Sleepy Hollow, The Circle and The Sportswriter. Regionally he has worked at some of North America‘s most prominent theatres including: The MUNY, Goodspeed, Papermill Playhouse, The Kennedy Center, Dallas Theatre Center, TUTS, The Alley Theatre,and Williamstown Theatre Festival. In 2014 and 2016 he was featured on the iconic Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and most recently in the 73rd annual Tony Awards hosted by James Corden. Lena Adele Wolfe is originally from Tucson, AZ and currently lives in NYC. She stayed in the sunny southwest city to graduate from The University of Arizona with a B.F.A in Dance and a B.S. in Optical Sciences and Engineering. Her performance credits include The Great American Dance Tour through eastern China with Art.If.Act Dance project, a yearly bout in Verlaine & McCann’s Through The Looking Glass: The Burlesque Alice and Wonderland, one performance wonder kicking off the holiday season with Saks Fifth Avenue: Theatre of Dreams and eye-high kicking Christmas in the Air at the Beau Rivage in Biloxi, MS. Before taking the plunge as a full time performing artist, Lena was an Optical Engineer on the display team for the original Microsoft HoloLens, the first consumer grade augmented reality device.
