Martha was worried about much and Mary chose the better part, to sit at Jesus' feet.
3 practical directives to banish worry
No more distractions - with what you think God wants. He wants you!
Stop worrying about what other people are doing - mind your own business.
Don't spend so much time being in His service that we miss spending time sitting at the Throne of the Father, receiving from Jesus, and Holy Spirit.
3 internal truths about worrying:
Worrying doesn't display your focus, worrying displays your lack of faith
Worrying doesn't demonstrate your depth of care, worrying demonstrates your affinity with control.
Worrying destroys the image of God in you. It destroys the image of God in you. You where we're made in His Image and we're made in his likeness.
You destroy worrying by seeking the kingdom of God and His righteousness. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth!
Veronda: Walk by faith: It's time to believe and act in faith, even if it's mustard seed size, it's enough!
Florencia: The One who is Faithful
Crushing is a process the same as Justification, Sanctification, Transformation, and Salvation. We shouldn't be afraid of this process. In this process a divine reversal has and is happening where a part of you must die while another part in you must live. God's divine reversal has and is taking place because hope doesn't disappoint and even in defeat you end up winning. Don't give up in the crushing, the last shall become first!
When we have experienced a crushing, are we speedily moving out and on from it or have we slowed down to take it all in? Have we run back to busy, have we acknowledged the loss, have we been so inundated with the work of God that we have forgotten that God has been with us through the crushing? When we haven't slowed down, we miss the love of the Father has been with us in, through, and after the crushing. Let's slow down to receive His love and then give that love to another!
You are in the Potter's hand. You may be marred but you are still in His hand and He is making you into that which seems good to Him. God is not done with making you!
What is God's next move? As with Moses, His next move is us. God led Moses through this method and He will lead us through it too!
Identify with God - Exodus 3:6: God shows us the way. He identifies with those He has made covenant with.
Identify with the people - Exodus 3:7: When we identify with people, we are identifying with the heart of God.
Identify with the movement - Exodus 3:10: God has chosen us, we are God's choice, regardless of us and God only chooses well!
Identify with the process - Exodus 3 & 4: Don't get stuck in a position when God wants to move us.
We must release our faith for the next move of God. We don't need more faith but we need to give faith more of us! Here are 3 things we need to know to get to the next level and give faith more of ourselves.
Everybody can't go (Luke 8:51)
Everybody can't stay (Luke 8:52-53)
Make room and let God in everywhere (Matthew 9:24)
Nehemiah informed his enemies that he was doing a great work and he could not come down. The enemy has a plan to try to get us to come down and cease the work for the Kingdom. Here are 3 things the enemy will try to get you to come down and cease the work of making disciples.
Attack our focus and thinking. Do we have a mind to work or a mind to be distracted?
Attack strength and wisdom and do physical harm. The enemy is going to threaten, will the work continue?
Attack against integrity - character assassination. The enemy is setting a trap to accuse.
Jesus could not and did not come down until "it is finished" because of the great work He was commissioned to do. To save us from death, hell, and the grave. Don't come down, we can't stop now!
Hold onto the Word because the Word is holding onto you. Don't hold onto the temporal things, feelings or emotions but hold onto The Word who never changes and is eternal. Hold onto the Word in faith.
What do we believe? Believing in God is the beginning step but do we know what we believe? When we know what we believe, in faith, we will take action. Surrendering our minds, hearts, and wills to God, so that His will will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Let God pick your friends. God knows what He put in us so He knows who we need to be friends with and friends to.
God creates an unforgettable experiences in a willing heart. Our unforgettable experiences are critical because they are for the saving of souls! Will you share your unforgettable experience with someone. The same unforgettable experience God created for you, He has for others! Share your story and win people over to Christ!
How are you thinking? Do you think big about the God we serve and His plans for us? Do we have problem problem-focused mind that wants to stay focused on the problem, instead of the One who is the answer to all of our problems? How do we think about ourselves? Do we see ourselves the way that God sees us? Are we still dealing with small-mindedness and how do we overcome this thinking? Faith in our Big GOD because He thinks Big about us!
We are the Church and what if we become exactly who we are supposed to be? Obeying God's greatest commandment to love Him with all that we are and loving one another.
We have made faith one-sided. Faith isn't only the victory but it is also how we walk through when we need to endure. What if we allowed all of the expressions of faith to be shown. But if not, will we still accept that God is God? Will we accept God's ways, His timing, and His will? We see in the Garden Jesus' expression of faith. He had the faith to pray and ask the Father to remove the cup and if not, He had the faith to accept the Father's will.
James tells us to count it all joy, this includes our struggles. Our struggles don't disqualify us from being accepted in the Beloved, it qualifies us. The struggles tell us that God is working on our hearts. Though we may struggle, God knows how to salvage us and bring us out of it. We must not let anyone make us feel ashamed for struggling instead let us wear our struggle as a badge of honor, not because of us, but because it brings honor to the Creator. He saw us in our struggle in our blood and said live! (Ezekiel 16:6)
Here are 3 points to consider when we are struggling.
It's better to struggle than to be a slave: Being a slave implies that we are overpowered or overwhelmed by something or someone else.
The struggle bears witness that the Holy Spirit is working in us: It's because we are struggling at all tells us the Holy Spirit is working in our lives because before we weren't struggling.
Just because we are struggling doesn't mean we are losing: The only way we lose is if we quit.
What is our story? What words are we using to tell our stories? Are we telling them from a victim or victor point of view? Often our speech betrays us. We believe the story we have rehearsed and retold again and again but what has God said about us? Are we calling God a liar when our stories don't align with His word. If we change our stories we can change our lives.
4 ways to change our stories:
Improve self-talk: What we say about ourselves matters.
Speak the Word and stop lying.
Stop punishing ourselves for the pain we endured. Continually punishing ourselves for the pain we endured is paying the price twice. Give it to God and stop paying. Jesus has already paid the price in full!
Celebrate everything we want repeated. Complaining is the celebration of negative circumstances.
Golgotha, is where there were 3 crosses. 3 crosses that all equated to death but the one in the middle was different. On the middle cross was the answer to death. On the middle cross was the Revelation, the Promise, and Faith we stand on. On the middle cross was salvation, not only for the criminal who asked, "remember me in your kingdom", but salvation for anyone who will receive it. On the middle cross "It is Finished" and that settles it. There is nothing that qualifies us for salvation but Jesus who carried, was nailed, and died on the middle cross did it for whoever believes would not perish but have everlasting life.
Fellowship + Love + Trust = Relationship. Dedication is important in having a right relationship with God. We must dedicate our body, our mind, and our will to Jesus.
Dedicating our body requires us to die to ourselves and crucify the flesh DAILY. Yielding to God cleanses me from the inside out.
Dedicating our mind allows for God to conform our mind to His word and not the world. We must ask ourselves, "What am I feeding my mind?"
Dedicate our will just as Jesus did in the garden. "Father, not my will but Your will be done." It's hard but I MUST YIELD.
We have to build TOGETHER in LOVE! God has gifts and talents in each of us to use. Despite how large or small, God each tasks is important. How do we use these gifts and talents to build together, through these tools: Patience, Wisdom, Harmony, & Love. All of these tools are needed but the Love of Christ is the glue that holds it all together as we build!
Are you naked in sin or clothed in Christ? Adam and Eve tried to cover their fear and shame in fig leaves but the fig leaves would eventually dry out and expose their fear and shame again. Temporary clothing doesn't last but God has clothed us in Christ. God has dressed us. He has clothed us in blood soaked garments that are whiter than snow. We were naked in sin but now we are clothed in the righteousness of Jesus!
We must play our part in what God is doing.
Aaron and Hur help Moses raise the banner while Joshua goes to fight the battle before Moses raises and Staff of God.
If they don't go out with Moses then the battle is lost and all that God wanted to do for them ends that day.
God knows our end from our beginning. He has a word inside of you and He speaks to that word that is in you. He is speaking to where you are going not where you are right now because He created you. He is making you for what He has already made you to be. He is going to bring your beginning to the end because of the Word that is in you. God knows what He is doing. We don't have to worry about the details, just let Him do the making and we just be willing vessels.
A panel discussion on the topic if sin and mastering it. Some questions to consider:
In Genesis chapter 4, we find God pleading with Cain concerning sin approaching in his life. Does God still
speak to His people this way? In what ways is God still speaking to His people now?
In Rom 5 we find that Jesus died for us while we were still sinners, we are reconciled to God by His death, and saved by His life. How can a person be sure that they are reconciled to God and saved?
In John 8:34, Jesus expresses that to sin is to be a slave of sin. To what extent do you agree or disagree with
being a slave to sin? (what if it’s just a small misstep?)
Can a Christian sin? Can a Christian continue to walk in sin? If so, can we say that they are a Christian at all? (Consider Rom 6:1-4)
All over the Bible we find God healing people from various ailments to include their pasts and mental well-
being. We understood from the series that to reject God’s healing is sin. Why would a person hold onto their ailment particularly if it’s based on an offense?
Abel became Cain’s ideal for acceptance in God and that twisted into envy and malice. Have you ever had an
issue with envy? How did you overcome it?
Part of walking in victory over sin is mastering self-control or temperance. What can this look like daily? How can a person get help in walking in self-control?
God is not surprised by us. He wasn't surprised by us when He chose us. He knew every detail, every decision, every bad choice we have and are going to make. Our bad choices aren't disrupting His plan that He has to go and move pieces around to fix His plans. No He has already taken all of that into account which is why He is the Great Orchestrator!
God is resetting us and it is in prayer. We must find a new prayer life. A prayer life where we are praying the word. How is He doing it, by His Spirit.
When we reject God's healing, we are missing the mark (sin). When we refuse to be healed, we are easily walking in sin. How do we heal from sin?
Admit that we are sick: Name the thing that ails you; put a name on it. Ephesians 1:21
To be healed it takes energy: Consider our consumption; we become what we eat
It takes rest to heal: Realize the necessity to stop, pause, and rest; take our superhero capes off. Hebrews 4:11
It takes life altering choices: A complete lifestyle change
Healing takes humility: Get low and be completely humble.
It is not our obligation to heal each other. God is doing the healing we must submit and surrender!
How do we deal with our dark parts? Those parts where sin wants to continue to live in us.
Consult God & not just myself. 1 Thess 5:17: My idea is not the best one because I had it.
Understand my desires, remembering I am dead to sin. Rom 6:11-12: Got a desire question it before we just accept it; where did this desire come from?
The best self-help book is still the Bible. Heb 4:12
Stop trying to be a better person. Rom 13:14 Stop trying to be a better me and strive to be like Christ.
He is the Answer to our dark parts!
Sin intends to rule over us but we must master it! Distractions are easily caused and are critical. They affect our present and future lives. Distractions cause us to focus on what is distracting us as opposed to what are we being distracted from. Eve was distracted from the Tree of Life by her imagination of what the Tree the Knowledge was offering. Martha was distracted from spending time with Jesus unlike her sister Mary who chose the better part. Eve and Mary were both distracted from Jesus, are we distracted from Him as well?
Sin is a parasite. It desires and hates us but it needs us to survive. This is why we must master it. Jesus Christ has delivered us from sin. He has given us the us the power and authority to rule over sin.
Quietness is something that can be difficult in a world that is always loud, but quietness can save our souls, if we learn to be quiet. Refusing quietness says we can do everything on our owns but accepting quietness says we can do nothing with God. When we are quiet, we stop relying on ourselves and we can be still and know that God is in control and He will be exalted among the nations and in the earth!
3 ways we can achieve quietness:
Learn to actively listen
Start slow, maybe you start with 3 minutes of being still and quiet. Start with where you are at.
Stop and move with God. Don't give up on Him and let Him teach us how to be quiet
Come out of hiding and come out of sin. We have to admit we are depraved and poor in spirit because of our sin. Admitting that we need a Savior who will take us from total depravity to complete transformation. We acknowledge our sin and repent, accepting the freedom, salvation, righteousness that is imputed on us though we have done nothing to receive it. What we deserve we did not receive but it was the Blood, it is the Blood, and it will always be the Blood that has cleansed us. Come out of it!
It's time to come out of hiding!
Why do we hide from God?
We hide because God has placed a word on us that agrees with the word that is in us
We hide because God has placed eternity in our heart
We hide because there is power in our absence.
But God is saying it's time to come out of hiding. He was making us ready in our hiding, but we had been hiding long enough, and it was time to come out of hiding.
God has plans for you. Notice the s on the end of plans. It is not just one plan but He has many plans. God has already drawn up the plans for your life even in your stormy seasons, your problems and tribulations. He is always intentional and He never makes mistakes. Don't get tied up on the one plan because He has loosed you to the new thing He is doing now!
There is power in a seed. The seed is the word of God. God gives the seed to the sower.
Money matters because it belongs to God. He is the owner and He has made us stewards over it. When we put our finances back into the hands of God our money no longer has control over us. 5 guiding principles for understanding money:
Maintain stewardship
Act your wage
Practice faithfulness
Stay delivered from things
Be delivered from money
God answers by fire and sets our lives ablaze. Are you ready for your life to be on fire? There is freedom in the fire, there is healing in the fire, there is deliverance in the fire, there is peace in the fire, there is power in the fire, and there is a blessing in the fire. God is the consuming fire, baptizing you in the Holy Spirit and fire. Pray, repent, and God will hear from heaven and answer by fire.
Sometimes God leads us into storms. Not so we can run away or pray to have them go away but so that we can grow through them. So that He can take our hand and guide us through them.
What secrets of Heaven is Jesus trying to show you in the storm?
