#BanyoThoughts | Gian Gallegos: Recent Episodes

Gian Gallegos

I created this Podcast because banyo conversations are always fun and interesting.

Why the title? Banyo in Filipino means either toilet or bathroom. 😂 Some of the best ideas I ever had came from inspirations inside the bathroom whether you are brushing your teeth, pooping, taking a shower or cleaning the toilet. I guess it's the mindlessness of a routine action that sparks the right brain to reflect.

Join me as I have imaginative and meaningful adventures, conversations, activities, and reviews of things that make us happy.

Past days, I am getting even more inspired by the ability of Filipinos to adapt to change. Ang galing talaga!

Kaya pala madami rin Foreign vloggers na gusto sumikat dito muna sila pupunta. Kasi magaling mag build ng fanbase ang mga Pinoy.

Not sure if pag foreign nga lang or pag local kasama rin? Parang minsan may crab mentality rin ang pinoy. LOL Mas gusto ang foreign instead of local unless sumikat na abroad. Yan lang naman observation ko.

But still, I am still proud of the resilience of Filipinos. Kahit mahirap na ang buhay, they can still afford to smile and make fun and jokes.

Imagine if we can channel all to make the Philippines world class. :)

The road to success is built on hard work... like lots of hard work.

I am sharing this video podcast because many are obsessed with perfection. I think it is good to strive for perfection but most often we imitate others or what see and assume that once we duplicate that we are already perfect.

But what if we strive for our version of perfection and we achieve this by building first the foundation for that "perfection" we are trying to attain?  Won't that be more meaningful?

Over the past few weeks, I am slowly internalizing what it is to repeat the basics and to improve on the basics. I came into the conclusion that if I work hard on deconstructing, repeating, improving on the basics, I can immensely improve in the future.  It may be a slow start but I have a feeling that it is going to be much worthwhile in the long run.

Go back to the  basics and this time.... work hard on building your foundations.

What if Filipinos have their own web novels? I wonder how much we can influence the world with our stories and webtoons?

Imagine our very own shounen jumps or webtoons?

ANG SAYA!! Tapos we feature our own folklores, legends and all good things Filipino.

Studies show we’re better at remembering the novel and the new, so let’s use this tendency to add to our storehouse of memorable and meaningful moments.

I guess this is because of the concept of the FIRST. Diba, we can easily recall all our first more than the other happy memories. Yung first kiss. Yung first date. Yung first cliff jump. Yung first tricycle ride. etc.

So naisip ko, as we grow older and the firsts becomes a bit rare,  maybe we can start incorprating more firsts in our daily lives. If we want life to slow down, to make moments memorable and our lives unforgettable, we may want to remember to harness the power of firsts. In our daily routines, it’s also an idea to consider how we can turn the ordinary into something more extraordinary in order to stretch the river of time.

It may be little things.

f you always eat sa dining table, gawin candlelit table—and kung sanay kuamain ng candlelit dinners, it might be nice to eat dinner during a KDRAMA marathon. LOL.

There isn’t a person amongst us who doesn’t have insecurities — some are just better at dealing with them, or perhaps hiding them.

We worry what other people think about us, we worry if we’re good-looking enough, we worry that we’re not doing all that we should be, we worry that we’ll fail, we worry that people will find out we’re a fraud. We worry that we’re too fat, worry if she’ll like us, worry if he likes that other girl, worry that we’re not good enough.

And social media, with its culture of getting us to want approval with likes and retweets, with its showing off amazing bodies and amazing travels and food … it only exacerbates the problem. But you know all this.

The question is: how do we overcome these insecurities?

How do we become OK with ourselves? How do we learn to find contentment and peace?

The answer isn’t simple, but it requires one thing to start with: a willingness to face what we usually don’t want to face.  So, you find the things you’re struggling with, and learn to work with them. Learn to shift your perspective. Learn to see what’s tripping you up, and turn it into an opportunity to practice new skills.

If you are one of those who are selling online during this global pandemic, you are awesome! Please don't listen those who tell you otherwise!

Alam mo what is important is not what other people will say about what you are doing. What is important is that you do what you think is right and will help you cope with all these economic challenges.

Not everyone is as blessed. :)

What are you selling?

Vegemite is the most misunderstood food in the Australian cuisine. I think the main problem people have with the yeast extract is the saltiness to it. But since living in NZ and having been exposed to Vegemite and Marmite, I have grown to love this bread spread.

Vegeite is made from yeast extract, malt, vegetable extract and salt. It is a dark coloured spread a little like Marmite although the taste is different. It has a very strong and unique salty flavour.

It is an acquired taste, but for Aussies who are raised on it as children, it is part of their everyday diet. LOL  You either hate this or love this spread. My friends told me that if you keep eating this, yung mga lamok di na daw lalapit sayo kasi maalat na dugo mo. LOL

We always dream about starting something, but are never able to do it. Why? Because we keep waiting for the perfect moment. “Once the product becomes perfect,” we tell ourselves. The problem with this saying is that it overlooks the fact that perfection is a journey. No one knows to do anything perfectly when they start.

Take pleasure in the laborious research process, you enjoy the slow cooking of the idea, the organic growth that naturally takes shape over time. Embrace slowness as a virtue in itself.

Gary Vaynerchuk the ever-energetic influencer and speaker, who has perfected the art of hustle often contends in his talks, “People who strive for perfection get left behind in life.”

I agree that  we work assiduously to achieve excellence in your work, even if it takes time. There is a lot of magic in it. :)

Do you wonder why others are seemingly winning at every aspct of their life? Ask yourself one simple question, are you consistent?

We need to SHOW UP NO MATTER WHAT!  By showing up at every chance you get, you are confirming that you really want it. If you quit halfway through, you won’t get what you want.

When it comes to your life, you are the responsible one. You make all the choices and you call all the shots. No one else can give you want you want and no one can take it away from you. Own it and you will find yourself owning more than you ever thought you would.

To master anything in life takes showing up and practicing. A lot. It’s a marathon, not a quick run around the neighborhood. So no matter how many times you need to practice, do it. If you truly want it, the practice will be that important to you.

While we hear of success stories that happen overnight, most success stories are not. They are the result of blood, sweat, and tears. And consistency. In the sweet chocolate cake recipe of life, you need that dash of consistency.

We have a tendency to consistently try to make ourselves or others “feel better.” We are driven by compassion and empathy, but these two can often be misdirected and instead, we project our idea of “okay” onto ourselves and other people.

What would it look like for us to simply feel whatever it is that’s coming up for us? When we are sick, we know to take medicine to feel better. But what if we are emotionally sick or in pain? There is no medicine to take. There is no concrete action that is always available to us. But often, seeking out a solution to our pain will simply cause us to put off the inevitable process of feeling our feelings.

It is okay to feel pain. It is okay to feel scared. It is okay to feel uncertain. It is okay to feel grief. It is okay to feel lonely. It is okay to not be okay.

Yes, it will pass. Yes, it is impermanent. But you can honor your emotional experience by being present for it, not by distracting yourself or avoiding it with every fiber of your being. Just for today, show up for whatever you're feeling.

I have alway loved Manga (Japanes comics) and Manhwa (Korean comics). Manhwa is the general Korean term for comics and print cartoons. Outside Korea, the term usually refers to South Korean comics But over time I grew to love the Korean ones except One Piece. One Piece for me is the No.1.

Nothing can top One Piece in my opinion.

Anyway, I compiled 5 of my current favorite Korean web comics. They listed from 5 to the Top 1. I am biased because I really enjoy the fantasy and adventure themed kind mainly because I love the fight scenes and the transformation of the main characters.

So here are my Top 5, starting from the least to my most favorite one.

  1. I Am The Sorcerer King

  2. I Am Destined for Greatness

  3. Hardcore Leveling Warrior

  4. Solo Leveling

  5. Tower of God -

Let me know on the comments below which ones you like the most.

Dogs bring so much joy and so many benefits. They guard us, keep us safe, make us exercise, cozy up and keep us warm, and provide endless companionship, while asking only that we take care of their physical needs and be there for them.

Dogs are the greatest comedians and they give us a reason to get up in the morning. They snuggle down with us in the evenings. Some even come to bed and take up all the room. Small dogs, medium dogs and big dogs, they all deserve a place in someone’s heart.

In my case, Matteo is truly heaven sent. From the day I first carried him until today when he still wants to be carried, I never had any regrets.

For some reason, our dog sees through all the joy, grief and trauma.  They give you that someone to talk to whenever you need to share. I hope that they will be there when we have babies of our own own. And that your furbaby will be there to comfort you in the passing of your loved ones. And, I wish, we will have the privilege of holding them, saying goodbye, and seeing them safely through their own passing.

Where, for I am 100% certain, they become true angels!

My good friend, Kristin, sent this to me today, "You are doing well. 🙂 And I hope you appreciate that also. You just have a high expectations for yourself but you are actually doing well 🙂."

For the past few weeks since the quarantine started here in the Philippines, I have gone through a roller coaster of emotions. Many of those consisted of existential questions. So hearing this from a friend really helped in assessing my current state of being. Now, whoever is reading this, I would like to say the give the same thoughtful words to you. YOU ARE DOING WELL!

As of this time of writing, the world has fallen into a global pandemic and everyone is trying to cope in whatever way they can. Let us not be hard on ourselves but understand that there are people around us who really love and care for us.

Here are 3 ways I did to be able to cope with anxiety and depression:

  1. Start writing this down. I mean everything. All the good thoughts and the bad thoughts. Write without fear of judgement. Write them as you feel them. Don't think correct yourself. Let it all flow out as you write. Trust me, you will feel better when you start reading it the next day. - Write what bothers you. - Write what makes you happy. - Write what would do if you no worries on anythings, like money, time, etc
  2. Talk with your closest friend. Have a deep conversation. Share what you wrote down. Just let it all out. But choose the person wisely. In my case, I have always had a go to person.
  3. Choose what you read in social media. Remember what you feed your senses will most likely affect how you think, feel and act. So be careful. Focus only on the good stuff. Be aware of what is happening but focus on those things that will help you grow as a person.

At the end of it all focus on the small things that make you happy. :)

This is one of my most enjoyable video and podcast I made so far. Mainly, because of my hyperfocused skill was in effect. 2 hours of pure focus from video recording, audio, and graphics. Anyway, I am not used to doing video recording and editing although I used to do that way back but since I have not practiced for a long time... this video editing sucks. You can watch the video at my Youtube Channel - BanyoThoughts By Gian

And I have a few disclaimers:

  1. This review is not meant to be taken seriously since I did it purely out of fun.

  2. Oh dear lord, the editing!!! I wanted to practice recording sa banyo pero yung soud quality.

  3. Made so many mistakes in the title of the kdrama.

  4. At ang text! hahaha Mas magaling pa ata yung intern na highschool

Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed making this video since I had a goal to accomplish and an attitude to beat. I wanted to practice what Gary Vaynerchuck always says, "Build content on the things you love everyday. Document more than create."

WHY LIFE OF THE MARRIED COUPLE IS SUCCESSFUL

Produced by jTBC, the series was aired first on Viu and is currently exclusive in Asia only on Viu. More than 55% of viewers on Viu in Asia have already caught on to the addiction to this wildly popular South Korean series since its opening week on March 27.

In South Korea, The World of the Married continues to surpass Itaewon Class’ weekly ratings, to become the second highest rated drama in jTBC history. Taray! Go doc!!

They say music can raise someone's mood, get them excited, or make them calm and relaxed. Music also  allows us to feel nearly or possibly all emotions that we experience in our lives. It is an important part of their lives and fills a need or an urge to create music. In this episode, we get to share some insights about music with one of my long time friends, Rob Equiza. He is now a music producer of his own record label company called Jam Lennon Records... parang John Lennon lang pero iba spelling. LOL. Hope you enjoy this episode as much as I did.

I think keeping in touch with people who share your aspirations, dreams, troubles and life challenges is a good practice to continue in your personal growth. One of those amazing friends I have is Kristin Chua aka Krissy. I could no longer recall the many times she has helped me through tough patches in my life through really deep conversations... sometimes walang sense na conversations like our Share-Your-Ulam app concept. She is one of the most supportive friends I have kaya I wanted to be one of the guest in my own Podcast. Life is indeed more interesting if you have crazy people supporting you along the way. Enjoy listening!
