Stacey and Jane love a good chat. Especially when it comes to sharing stories about running their businesses. Stacey is a dance educator and principal of a dance school and Jane is managing director of a marketing agency. Both of them have ambitions as high as the heavens for their consecutive businesses.
They are motivated, passionate and driven female business leaders who love to share their insight with anyone who will listen. They're also incredibly curious as to how other business leaders run their business. Most of all, they are determined to inspire more women into leadership positions.
Having both been described as 'bossy' when they were little girls, the 'Miss Bossy Boots' Podcast was inspired by Sheryl Sandberg's famous quote 'I want every little girl who is told she is bossy, to be instead be told she has leadership skills'. 'Miss Bossy Boots' is the perfect avenue to embrace their leadership skills and to interview other inspiring business leaders from a huge range of backgrounds and share their uplifting stories.
The Miss Bossy Boots podcast will be a fortnightly podcast after a saturated launch period of two weeks and will cover a range of topics to help encourage other women to lean into positions of leadership in their business, in their community and their industry.
Alli Garison is no stranger to Miss Bossy Boots, she first appeared way back before the pandemic kicked in, in early 2020.
Today we talk about the changes that women experience after becoming mothers and the way the impact of those stay with you long after your baby has grown.
If you're a mum, who hasn't felt the same since having your child, you will love this chat with Alli.

We talk about:

When you are under the age of about 50, planning for your retirement seems kinda, well, boring. And it just seems sooo far away!
Details concerning personal insurance, voluntary superannuation contributions and investment strategies can seem a little icky to many females and sometimes if we are honest, we can leave these boring details to the men in our life.
But in this episode of Miss Bossy Boots, Suzie Barnaby; a Financial Adviser with Morgans in Port Macquarie talks us through the importance of taking this stuff more seriously (like now) and shares some inspirational insight into how we can turn this challenge into an opportunity.

Barbara Ryan lives in New York City. She started her corporate career working on Wall Street. In the late seventies. It's interesting to hear her talk about how much has evolved (and unfortunately how much has not) when it comes to ambitious females navigating their career trajectory over the last 4 decades in one of the worlds most cutthroat economies.
Barbara witnessed first-hand how little support women had in certain male-dominated industries. This inspired her to start the Fabulous Pharma Females group which is now chock full of CEOs and woman leaders in the pharma industry.
The group works to give women an opportunity to connect with each other and create a strong community of women with a shared commitment to one another.
In this episode of Miss Bossy Boots, Barbara candidly shares so much insight into how she managed to build a successful career as a senior leadership executive and working mum and how she now encourages females to lift each other up to help each other succeed.

“Difficulties come when you don't pay attention to life's whisper. Life always whispers to you first, but if you ignore the whisper, sooner or later you'll get a scream” ― Oprah Winfrey
Gut feeling. Intuition. A little niggle. Instinct.
What do you call that thing in your body that emits an almost visceral message within you sometimes? You can't quite put your finger on it, but you know it's trying to tell you something. But what is it trying to tell you?
In this episode of Miss Bossy Boots, Jane shares a recent experience with her business planning where her intuition was practically reaching up from her gut to slap her firmly in the face. And, as usual, she ignored it and tried to fend it off with reason and logic.
But lunch with a wise friend in business soon revealed that her gut was trying to warn her off making a big mistake.

There are so many women who are lost. They are confused about who they are and who they should be. What's scary, is that a lot of us don't actually realise that we are perhaps lost. We just know that something does not feel right. We are anxious and guilty and worried. Worried that we are not doing enough.
Allison believes that when women understand how powerful they can be, they start to gain clarity.
In this episode of Miss Bossy Boots Allison helps us understand how we can navigate our way through this murkiness and start to achieve some more balance in our being.

This episode we speak to Kat Mclead. Kat is the creator of the Stay at Home Mom Entrepreneur. This is a framework that she created for creating a highly profitable business that she loves while working just 2 hours a day.
Kat shares how she started her first multiple 6 figure business 20 years ago. She hasn’t slowed down since. Her first business profits meant that she had way more money than her husband when they first got married, and was able to pay the entire $450,000 down payment on their home. Not that he minded!
She fully planned on being a pampered Stay at Home Mom, but once her son began preschool, and she actually had ME time again for the first time in years, she became restless. So she came out of “retirement” and started coaching her friends just to give her a little extra buzz.
She now helps stay at home moms find fulfilment and independent income outside of motherhood all while staying Mom first.

Fear can be debilitating. It can stop us from realising our potential. It can stand in the way of us jumping on an opportunity. It can infiltrate our conscious and deplete our confidence.
Fear can be hard to identify too. In our experience, fear often manifests as a multitude of excuses. OR simply as prolific procrastination.
'I don't have time', 'I'm not set up to do this', 'I don't have enough experience', 'I'll do it later'.
Any of these sound familiar?
So what do you do to overcome this fear? In this episode of Miss Bossy Boots, Stacey and Jane share their experience with fear. They also talk about some of the actions that they have personally taken to overcome fear in their career.

If you have been listening to our recent podcasts that discuss Jane's first-ever book; How To Do Marketing - A Comprehensive Guide for Small Business, and wondering what the book is all about or even whether the book is for you, then listen up to this episode of Miss Bossy Boots!
You will also find this episode valuable if you are somewhat curious about how the dark art of marketing actually works.
Stacey shares some of her personal key take-aways from the book such as:
Marketing will not do all the heavy lifting. While effective marketing can encourage people to consider you and hopefully come and buy from you, delivering your customers an awesome experience is integral to optimising your marketing investment.
The power of word-of-mouth. The detrimental effects of disappointing your customers and how you can combat and prevent negative online comments.
What role a 'centre of influence' plays in your marketing eco-system. What is a centre of influence and how powerful building relationships with centre of influences can be to driving customers in your direction.
Jane also talks about the importance of setting goals to drive your marketing activity so that you can determine if you have achieved a successful outcome.

A work-life balance may be nigh impossible to achieve, however, that does not mean that we can't at least try to schedule in self-care activities that will help us to survive the life of a working parent!
Eating well, exercising, relaxing, sleeping, learning - all of these things are necessary for us to live well, however these are the things that we often cast aside in order to get stuff done for work or family or whatever!
In an effort to encourage more 'me-time' Jane and Stacey have come up with the #flamingochallenge. This involves carving at least 1/2 hour out of your week - every week - where you do absolutely nothing!
Then, to prove that you have completed this task, you need to post a photo to Instagram and hashtag that proof with #flamingochallenge!

Alana Roper has a really powerful story to share. In April 2017, Alana's darling little boy Ozzie was diagnosed with leukaemia. He was two years of age.
Alana wrote to us via our Facebook page introducing herself as "a different sort of ‘bossy boots".
"I may not be a typical woman in business, however, the true power in an oncology mum is something else."
In this special episode of Miss Bossy Boots, Alana shares her journey from Ozzie's initial diagnosis through to where the family are today.
This is a story of resilience and love. Alana wanted to share her story to be the voice of so many families that are living with childhood cancers or who have lost children to cancer.
She says that while leukaemias are the most common type of cancer diagnosed among Australian children, accounting for around one third (33%) of all cases, this is not a topic that gets a lot of airtime. As a result, childhood cancers don't tend to receive as much funding. If it's out of sight, it's out of mind.
If you would like to help support Alana and her family you can follow her journey on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/ozziesheros/

This is episode 2 of 'How to reignite our sensual vitality with Brooke Maggs from She Desires.
If you are a seriously busy, working mum who feels overworked, overwhelmed and overscheduled, then we highly recommend that you listen to this two podcast series.
She Desires is a business that delivers coaching and workshops to help very busy women (usually mothers) regain their sense of self and their vitality.
Hold. The. Phone!
Our interview with Brooke reveals a candid conversation about how the state of busy women's lives leads us with a complete lack of focus on our own sensual needs and desires.
Let's be honest, the need to connect with our desires is often easily pushed to the bottom of our list. In our efforts to drive our careers, to love and nurture our children, to be good wives / partners and friends, to contribute to our communities and to pretend that our hair is not greying and our tummies are not plumping - we can sometimes forget the benefits that spontaneity, excitement, risk and passion can add to our own vitality and our relationships.
In this episode, Brooke provides us with some practical approaches to help us re-embrace our sensuality.
These two episodes are well worth the listen. After interviewing Brooke, Stace and I left the recording studio with a whole new perspective on life. These are the conversations we need to have more of.
Enjoy.

"One of the hardest decisions you'll ever face in life is choosing whether to walk away or try harder."
Ziad Abdelnour
This was one of the quotes included in Emma Isaacs much-acclaimed book; Winging It, that provided a huge a-ha moment for Jane.
In a follow-up to episode #62 of Miss Bossy Boots podcast, where Stacey shared her top three take outs from Emma Isaac's book about business, Jane now shares a couple of hers.
She relates Ziad's quote to business. "One of the hardest parts in business is choosing whether to walk away or try harder."
Having recently removed herself from her everyday life for a week with a trip to San Fransisco, Jane returned with much clarity, new ideas, free thinking and a renewed energy.
Two days later she resigned from a position that had been bothering her for at least twelve months.
"I was so torn in this position as everything within my heart screamed to give it up but my head kept instructing me to 'harden up and to not give up'!
"By just giving myself enough time to think, I was able to see with so much clarity that the only choice here was to walk away. Once I'd made the decision, I've never looked back!"
The second quote that resonated with Jane was:
"If you're the smartest person in the room, you are in the wrong room."
This is powerful. And it's so true. Surrounding yourself by people who lift you can help you step outside of your comfort zone and become a better person of yourself. Stace and Jane both make a huge effort to do this in their business life.
If you feel that these points may resonate with you, have a listen and we'd love to hear any additional comments or experiences you have about these over on our Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/MissBossyBootsPodcast/
PS We highly recommend grabbing a copy of this book if you haven't read it already. it's full of aha moments and fabulous words of wisdom.

Recently, we both attended Social Media Marketing World in San Diego. This conference was something that we had both wanted to attend for many years.
We set some goals for Miss Bossy Boots with the promise that when we achieved these we would road trip together to this conference! And that we did.
During this three-day conference, we had such an abundance of workshops to choose from. It was so hard to choose what to attend. We divided and conquered then got together to share notes and key takeaways from each session.
We also wanted to share these findings with you. So over two episodes, we'll share some of the info that we found inspiring, interesting and extremely valuable. These insights are definitely not restricted to social media marketing either. We share tips on goal setting, marketing, business and brand building, creativity and much more.
In this episode we cover: How to build and monetise your personal brand -highlights from a session with Chris Ducker How to channel your creativity - highlights from a session with Innovation Speaker (ex-Disney) Duncan Wardle
We hope you enjoy this episode and be sure to stay tuned for the follow-up episodes for more highlights from our trip to Social Media Marketing World 2019.

As self-proclaimed queens of 'winging it', Business Chicks premium members and long-time Emma Isaac fangirls, we both awaited Emma Isaac's first ever book; Winging It with bated breath.
In this episode, Stace talks through her defining moments of the book and how she is incorporating these take-outs into her work and personal life.
Stace's key takeouts of the book were:
Take Out #1 - Vibes Don't Lie
Take Out #2 - People forget what you have said and did but they won't forget how you made them feel
Take Out #3 - Leadership is about leaving your ego at the door
Take Out #4 - Women don't need to walk over each other to get ahead
Awesome takeouts that have sparked great conversation between us and of course led to some inspiring moments.

Do you say yes, when you actually mean no?
Sometimes we say yes because we genuinely want to help and our optimism leads us to believe that we can fit it all in.
Sometimes we say yes, because we are afraid of hurting someone's feelings, or worried that they will judge us for saying no.
Sometimes we are just so used to saying yes, we just forget to say no.
But when saying yes to others starts to compromise your personal life, business or goals, you have to start saying no
In this episode, Stace and Jane talk through all the times that they have said yes and how they have learnt over time to start saying no.

Aaah, the bittersweet feeling of school holidays.
Yay, that for a few weeks you no longer have to worry about the rigid routine of school lunches, clean uniforms and after-school activities.
Boo, that for a few weeks working parents scramble to entertain kids without spending their life-savings on 'holiday activities and care', manage guilt that they are not spending 'quality time' with kids, hold down a full-time job and not slug down a bottle of wine daily to calm the holiday nerves.
In this episode, business owners and Mums; Stace and Jane talk through their school holiday experiences, some of the wins, some of the frustrations and importantly some of the techniques they are trying to manage the juggling act that is School Hols!

"You are the average of the five people that you spend the most time with." Jim Rohn
If this quote is true, it makes sense to surround yourself in business with five (or more) of the smartest, most motivated and inspiring people you can find right?
Well, this is exactly what Stacey and Jane have done, in the form of a Business Mastermind group.
In this episode of Miss Bossy Boots, they talk about how the group was formed, how they structure the sessions and most importantly what they both got out of the sessions.

Personal Stylist, Vanessa Lawrence from The Style Vibe joins co-hosts Jane and Stacey to talk about how she hope that her new business venture will inspire confidence in the women and men that she serves.
While you may think that a personal styling session is something that only celebrities can afford to indulge in, Vanessa encourages you to think again.
She says that the emotional benefits of personal styling far out weigh the physical benefits. When we take a little more pride in our appearance, we start to feel more confident. And when we are confident we can conquer the world.
Vanessa urges us to stop putting ourselves last in line and to give ourselves permission to embrace and celebrate our features.
It doesn't have to cost you the earth either. One of Vanessa's services is to audit her clients wardrobe and use their existing clothes to formulate some fabulous new outfits. She tells to stop hanging on to all of those pieces that you are hoping to get back into one day and to start working with what you have. #nomoreexcuses
Vanessa's passion for this purpose is palpable. She is such a warm and lovely person with a genuine desire to help women and men increase their confidence by looking and feeling fabulous.

Money. Let's talk about it. We think we should talk about this more often.
Stace shares a massive win - she's just paid off a huge business loan! Woot. How did she do this? She shares her loan repayment strategy.
Jane has recently taken inspiration from Melissa Browne's book; Unf*&$ Your Finances. She took the financial detox as suggested in the book and she shares how it helped to increase her mindfulness with money.
Melissa's book also prompts you to explore your personal values around money, and how these values could be affecting your money management today. An a-ha moment right there!
Both Jane and Stace reveal their achilles heel of indulgence in business; professional development (and tutus).
This episode is a raw, revealing and honest episode about something that affects us so fundamentally in life. And while we don't want to just be all abput the money, we need to be all over the management of it if we want to be around in the future.

Hands up if you look after everybody and everything before you even THINK about looking after yourself?
Stace kicks off this episode sharing her weekly goals framework - which is great by the way. But how easy is it for to-do lists to literally rule our lives. And how often is your self-care listed down on that to do list?
Jane shares how the physical and meditative benefits of her self-care salvation; Yin Yoga has helped face discomfort with more confidence which as helped ease her anxiety.
Stace (whose definition of self-care was limited to having a facial), shares how she has started to practice a really simple self-care routine that is significantly helping her cope with her family and business demands.
We also throw in a few more self-care suggestions that can truly nourish your body and soul.
In summary - schedule that self-care on to the to-do list people. You are worth it!

Happy New Year! It's time to set some new goals for the new year. Yay!
Jane's goals are tangible and measurable. She's writing a book on marketing and this year it will be published. And watch this space regarding how she will move her business forward in 2019. More time with family and friends also make the goal list!
Stace is launching something all together new. A side hustle some may say. PLUS she is sending her first born to school! Momentous. She also commits to tackling the level of customer service that her business provides in 2019. (In reality though, her customer service is actually already quite excellent by the way ;-))
So join us as we run through some of our goals which will hopefully provide you with some thoughts around the goals that you might want to set for yourself this year!

Have you ever heard the term 'flearnings'? It's a hybrid of the words failures and learnings.
What better time of year to review the learnings you took from your failures? And of course your wins!!
Stace kicks off the ep sharing one of her recent flearnings - a customer satisfaction survey for her business that incited some really nasty feedback. Ouch.
We cover off some of our wins, self-discoveries and transformations for the year.
Between us we've had a baby, redefined a business, learnt how to delegate, learnt to refuel on energy, practiced self-care, launched a Miss Bossy Boots Instragm profile, taken a few deep breaths and as a result - we've survived!

This episode we chat candidly with Jenna O'Connell and Mariane Power from The Posify Group who exist to connect people to their purpose. They fundamentally believe that POSsibilities open IF and when you find and follow your whY.
You may have heard us in a few previous episodes tackling the topic of our 'why's'. Stace is all over hers and Jane is still trying to identify one that resonates with her.
We talk about why it's so important to find and connect with your why and how we go about finding your why.
We discuss the prevelance of depression and anxiety in our society today and whether this is something we tackle as a community or whether it's ultimately up to the individual to solve.
Mariane and Jenna are such a delight to listen to. They are insightful, smart and honest about their personal journey's and have lots to share when it comes to the topic of uncovering your meaning and purpose.

Yay - this is our 50th episode!
'If you really want something you'll find a way. If you don't, you'll find an excuse' This quote from Jim Rohn inspired the topic of this momentous episode of Miss Bossy Boots.
We look at some of the things in our life that instead of just getting on with, we are finding excuses to not do.
Sometimes when our gut is trying to tell us something or we are not convinced that we should be doing something, we procrastinate. Is it because it's pushing us outside our comfort zone, is it because we don't believe in it? Why do we make excuses about getting some things done as opposed to others?
We have an a-ha moment when we realise that when we first started recording Miss Bossy Boots we were finding it hard to get our rhythm and a multitude of excuses slowed us down. We finally work out why!

Who's afraid of bullies? Not us. Not anymore.
In this episode, Stacey recounts how she nipped a recent case of bullying in the bud.
We both share stories of when we have been bullied in the past and how we handled that. And how it took us standing up to bullies to realise that actually; all bullies are, are cowards.

As leaders, the thought of being vulnerable can be frightening. Imposter syndrome and wanting to maintain control can drive us to lead others to beleive that we are invincible.
Apparently though, it's much more healthy to be open and honest about your vulnerabilities.
In this episode of Miss Bossy Boots we talk through our experiences with vulnerability.
Jane reveals that being vulnerable is one of the hardest things she finds to do - particularly as a working mother in the company of men. Luckily the Emotional Intelligence program she is doing is helping her understand more about the important role of vulnerability in forming lasting relationships.
In her year of 'working-on-her-leadership' skills, Stace is trying to work on demonstrating that she is an awesome Dance School Principal as well as a fellow human-being. She is transitioning from being 'Miss-Stacey-who-lives-and-breathes-dancing-under-all-circumstances', to 'Miss-Stacey-who-also-leaves-the-house-occasionally-with-baby-vomit-on-her-shoulder'!
Oh and if this topic is quite new to you - we highly recommend you check out Brene Brown's renowned TEDTalk on the matter. You can see that here: https://www.ted.com/talks/brene_brown_on_vulnerability

Emotional Intelligence is a HUGE topic that is gaining significant momentum. The World Economic Forum predicts that by 2020 that Emotional Intelligence skills will be mandatory in workplaces.
In this episode we talk with Susan Judd, an HR and Emotional Intelligence Specialist with a passion to build happy and engaged workplaces.
Currently the Managing Director of HR Culture, Susan holds more than 20 years of experience in leading and managing people in a diverse range of organisations spanning financial services, manufacturing and distribution, retail and business to business sales.
Susan loves to help create workplaces where people are motivated and inspired to do and be their best. To achieve this vision, she has been working with Genos International for the past six years to build her capabilities around deploying emotional intelligence in the workplace.
In this episode we cover:
What Emotional Intelligence is and why it’s now emerging as such an important skill in business The six emotional intelligence leadership competencies The characteristics of someone who has a high level of emotional intelligence and the characteristics of someone that has low emotional intelligence? How much of emotional intelligence is natural versus something that is learned? Who would benefit from increasing their skills in emotional intelligence? Some of the results we might see in the workplace if we start to improve our emotional intelligence?

Miss Bossy Boots has joined the big bad world of Insta! Finally.
We deliberately left it as our second choice of promotional social channel for a few reasons (of which we touch on briefly in this episode).
There's no denying it - there is definitely pros and cons to social media both on a business and personal level.
Socially, social media channels such as Instagram, Facebook and Snapchat sometimes get a bad wrap for the negativite behaviour of a selected few (bullying, trolling etc.) that it can help to amplify.
That though, is a subject for another day. This episode we talk about the Pros that Instagram can foster.
Jane gets down and dirty with some granular insight into how certain age groups are using the Instagram platform - which is really important to know as a parent of teens OR as a Business Owner - hello Direct Messaging!
We talk about how we are using Instagram to promote our Miss Bossy Boots Podcast as well as how Jane's 11 year old daughter managed to build herself a thriving Instagram page connecting with well over 2,500 fellow LOL Doll followers. Organically!

It was recently suggested to Jane that she redefine what success looks like for her business. This of course is not an easy thing to do. Especially when your definition of success has been ingrained within you for a life time.
In this episode of Miss Bossy Boots, Stace and Jane deep dive into what their definition of success is. Turns out, this is something that formed in childhood and has shaped what success looks like throughout life and business.

In 2017, Stacey created a manifesto, placed it in an envelope and forgot all about it. One year later, this letter appeared in her letterbox and surprised her. She was shocked to read through this manifesto and realise that there were many items that she had manifested had actually happened.
Stace also talks about the importance of a visible manifesto that you see every day, reading the items outload.
Jane is skeptical. Is it the manifesto that makes it happen or is it just all a load of codswallop?
Join us for this episode of Miss Bossy Boots Podcast as we discuss the possibilities that manifestos may or may not create.

The world is changing. Workforces are becoming more nimble and flexible as people try and create balance between work and life.
But are they? This is certainly the hype we are reading. But in reality, are organisations (outside of Silicon Valley) really providing flexible working environments.
We talk with Emily Rennes whos has been able to negotiate a very flexible remote working arrangement with the organisation she works with.
Emily resides on the sunny Gold Coast but the head office of her organisation is in Melbourne.
Emily says that she values the trust that her boss - who created a more flexible working environment for the benfit of her own situation - has placed in her. As a result, she believes she is more diligent about getting work done, does not really have 'sickies' and her communication and reporting skills are second to none as she aims to let people know that she is actually getting work done.
So what's involved in creating a job that will better suite your lifestyle?
Emily talks us through the ins and outs of her role, the tech she uses and how she managed to score such a gig!

Burnout. It happens. And when it does, it ain't pretty. Burnout can stem from exhaustion and it can lead to mental health issues such as depression.
As it happens, it's very easy for women running businesses or working in businesses who are also trying to balance raising a family, contributing to their community, being a good friend and the list goes on to burnout.
In this episode we talk to Naturopath Melanie Lock from The Hollow Store who provides us with some insight into what burnout is and how it affects us physiologically and psychologically.Melanie Lock is a Naturopath and business co-owner of The Hollow Store. She is a Speaker, Blogger, Contributor to Nurture Magazine and mother to 2 boys (Archie and Rocco). So she knows what it's like to wear a few hats! Mel has been in clinical practise for almost 20 years working with women and children's health. She specialises in nutrition, herbal medicine and emotional counselling.
We talk about how to identify signs of burnout and what we can do to try and avoid burnout.
At some stage, we will have to manage the eternal busyness of our lives and start to prioritise our health. There are little and easy things we can start doing right now and then there are some things that may have to wait until we are ready to start really making changes to prioritise us! It's that time of year again - business & industry awards! We've spoken about the importance of entering awards before.
Jane prefers to enter industry awards (that assess her on her marketing skills) and Stace is a fan of the local Chamber business awards which assess her on her business building success. The local Chamber awards of course lead on to regional, state etc.
So what are the benefits of entering awards? The credibility, the recognition, the exposure, the process of analysing your business and the opportunities that awards might create. When Lisa Messenger announced in March that Issue 52 of her magazine 'Collective Hub' would be the last ever edition, Stacey and I were floored.
As massive Lisa Messenger fans and avid Collective readers, we were gutted. What we were absolutely thrilled about though was Lisa's raw and honest account of why she was exiting print, breaking her product and pivoting to something altogether new.
Lisa's quest to live her business journey out loud, comes warts and all and that's why we love her. It's so refreshing and comforting to know that other people fail too sometimes.
In this episode of Miss Bossy Boots we chat about what we have taken away from Lisa's journey. Not just her exit from print media but from the beginning.

Does anyone else have really high expecations of themselves? In business and in life sometimes we can just set the bar too high. And this can then lead to dissappointment in ourselves. And that's just not fair.
In this episode Stacey talks about the expectations she has (perhaps unfairly) held of herself as a Small Business Owner / Mother-of-two who is pregnant with her third child.
She's trying to be kinder to herself by not placing ridiculous expectations on herself and what she can achieve.
Then Jane just gets on a 'Ricki Lake rant' about giving ourselves permission to have a break sometimes. Perhaps giving some much-needed advice to herself?

Welcome back to the Miss Bossy Boots podcast, brought to you by your two Bossy co-hosts Stacey Morgan and Jane Hillsdon. In the interest of keeping it real for women in business, in this episode Stace and I reveal how we can sometime experience overwhelm. Massively. As high achievers we sometimes set unrealistic goals. Or, we can be overly optimistic in planning how long certain activities will take. Damn car registration! So how do we deal with it? Sometimes we push on knowing that this is life as a small business owner. Sometimes we pause and take a swim in the ocean. Sometimes we meditate. And if we are feeling particularly mentally healthy, we change the conversation in our minds. Feeling overwhelmed can be something that working parents, small business owners and generally just busy people can feel often. It's good to have a conversation about it and admit it both to ourselves and to others when we feel this way.

Stace and Jane love a good read. And for us, it has to be a real book - not the kindle type #fyi. We have a ferocious appetite for books that help us become a better person in life and in business so we both find that this is what we mostly read about.
We had such good feedback from our previous episode where we covered books we love, we thought we'd talk about the latest lot we've just read.
We talk about: The Barefoot Investor - Scott Pape (yep, we know this is not really original - but Jeez it provides such valuable advice!) Pause: Harnessing the Life-Changing Power of Giving Yourself a Break - Rachael O'Meara The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F$%# - Mark Manson Purpose - Lisa Messenger

Goals. We set them, then stuff happens. As driven small business owners Both Stacey and Jane love setting goals for their business and admit to probably being slightly over-ambitious with their plans.
In this episode we review the goals we each made in 2017 and reflect upon how we went in terms of achieving them.
