Recently I was listening to a podcast, completely unrelated to business per se, although it did touch on business here and there. The question posed and discussed was “What does success mean to you?” Quite an intriguing question when you come to really think it through. Business or life in general, the question opens Pandora’s Box full of questions and discussion.
I look back to my early twenties and what success meant to me. It was always about the job/career/next big role.

Using the S.M.A.R.T goal-setting system as you work through a large goal, taking stock and setting in place the steps can assist you in obtaining your goal with a clear course of action. Have you seen the movie Up? Remember the dog and Squirrel? If you have a project with moving parts it is easy to get distracted. Last episode we were talking all things the Law of Attraction, this episode it is timely to discuss collecting payments for your business.
Many people confuse merchant accounts with payment gateways but they are not the same. Merchant account services act, for the most part, as a liaison between your business bank account and the payment gateway. When a customer orders a product from your online business their card is processed via the payment gateway. The money is then moved over to the merchant account service. The merchant account service then moves those newly captured funds to your business bank account. Having a easy to use for the consumer and easy to maintain for you is a big step in the online payment collection process.

Whether you are a small to medium business owner, solopreneur, network marketer or an online marketer, there are times where we find ourselves hiding out in our business.

This is an oldie but a goody. You may have heard the term 'batching'. Batching tasks that are similar together and schedule them in your planner to do at the same time. Our fabulously comprehensive brain goes into different states of association when doing tasks of a similar nature. Flitting from one project to another take our brain some time to digest the changes.
As an example of batching, you may be doing your figure work for your business, it requires focus and concentration. If the phone rings and it is a client your brain has to switch from task orientated focus and concentration association to one of social, higher energy levels and a different level of focus. The time the brain takes to switch back and forth from a doing focus to a social focus impacts in getting back into the rhythm of the task at hand. This is a simple example to illustrate how interruptions slow the process of our thought patterns. Batching like to like projects is a way to stay focused and get through the tasks quicker. Here are a few tips to consider
- Pick the time of the day that relates to the batching tasks, If in the afternoon you find it difficult to focus, schedule in your focus batching tasks in the morning.
- Schedule in your creative batching tasks when you feel fresh and full of creativity
- Consider using a diffuser with essential oils. Wild Orange or Lemon are fabulous and uplifting to stay refreshed. You may consider some of the many blends on the market including focus, or balance to name a few.
- Don't be afraid to turn your phone to airplane mode or off. If you need to concentrate and you want to stay on a batch of focus tasks, avoid interruption by not using the phone for an hour or two.
- In your creative batching some background music along with essential oils can help to get those creative juices flowing. Even moving from the office to an outdoor space can have a positive effect on your creativity.
- List all of the tasks you need to complete for a week and then batch like for like tasks and add them in to your planner for the week. Schedule in the time to achieve those tasks. Accounts and book work and targets maybe some you can batch together. Follow up phone calls, emails and text messages together. Writing blog posts, scripting a podcast and social media posts all require a level of creativity and this may also provide a means for re-purposing content.

2020 has been are particularly challenging year to say the least. This year hubby and I couldn’t go holidaying in our caravan and take a break. Most of 2020 I threw myself into my Connect Her business, transitioning from live, face to face events to online, virtual events and expanding our location numbers. There was always the hope by the time November came and our birthday’s we would be able to take a break and have a nice holiday. Well, that didn’t quite work out. I decided if we couldn’t go to the fun, we better find the fun at home.

Have you ever woken up in a funk, angry, upset or frustrated and you don’t know why? Maybe, you woke up feeling on top of the world only to thrown into anger or irritation by a simple act. How about if you could turn your day back into a great day with 5 words?
I remember one day I woke up feeling great, I had a networking event to attend and I was looking forward to seeing the regular crew. After the meeting I had a scheduled meeting with one of my top clients, I was looking forward to lunch with them.
Now this is where the ‘feeling’ started to turn south. Just before walking out the door I noticed a spot I had missed with my makeup. I grabbed the bottle and shook it, it then preceded to flick globs of makeup over my nice top. BOOM! Mood changed, it was one of my favourite tops and I needed to now go and get changed, this made me late. Running out the door so I wouldn’t be late I inadvertently left my planner behind with pertinent information in it for both meetings. This I was to find out until my first meeting. As I was running late, I seemed to catch every red light, had people cut me off and couldn’t find a parking spot and I was now super late for my first meeting.
At this point I could have rushed out of my car and continued on to my meeting that I was already late for anyway. Instead I chose to sit in my car, calm down, message the host and let them know I am no far away and have been caught in traffic.

I have to say I am just as guilty of this as the next person. That is, how I talk to myself. You know that chatter that goes on and on in your head. We can tend to use negative words or berating sentences in our thoughts. Why negative or berating, because it is easy. It is easier to look at the negative side than it is the positive, to think positively takes more effort so we tend not to.
Imagine the thoughts and words that we say to ourselves saying them to our child, Mother, Father, Sister, Brother or Best friend, how would you feel, how would they feel? I am guessing pretty horrible, yet we let ourselves get caught up in negative self-talk through fear and ease.

Karen Galbraith is a business owner of 28 years. Starting in country Victoria, Karen moved her business to the suburbs of Melbourne where she quickly discovered doing business was a bit different to being in a country community. Karen built her business on networking and word of mouth, recently Karen has sold her business and moved again to open and establish a new business. Karen's journey with Reflexology and Aromatherapy began in 1990 following a car accident, constantly suffered with migraine headaches and after receiving a number treatments using a combination of Reflexology and Aromatherapy, identified that the migraine would either completely disappear, or in some cases not develop at all. This led her to a 30 year career involving natural therapies.

Join Lee on this weeks episode as she mines for gold. I come from Western Australia and it is well known for the gold fields and mining up north. At any of the mines you will notice massive open pits exposing the earth of what was once buried deep within. Miners work tirelessly over weeks, months and years to remove the layers to discover the treasures below. It is amazing what can be unearthed through the process of digging deep. What you may have thought was there may be something completely different. It isn't until we open up and start using the right tools we start to discover what lies within.
These questions are a great start to dig down and discover some thinking patterns. To help unearth opportunities and realign your thinking, using discovery questioning and combining with EFT tapping can help discover the treasure that is you.This is true to with us as human beings, what you see on the surface is just that, sitting on the surface. Dig a little deeper and there is more to the human standing in front of you. Look into a mirror and really look at yourself, what do you see?
When we take the time to do some introspection we can discover successes, limiting beliefs and a plethora of opportunity for ourselves and our business success.

Have you been tempted to put your toe in the cloud so to speak? For me, it started off with a small Dropbox account I used primarily with a creative designer who was doing some work for me many years ago. It was easy to upload and download the work without emailing large files. It was great and I fully embraced it while the collaboration was happening and then I let it wane. Sure, I used my Dropbox account for certain things but not fully to how I could have. For some reason I was hesitant to hand over my work, my ideas, my business and all that it encompasses to the cloud. I mean where is it, where is my 'stuff'?
It is only in 2020 that I have fully embraced the use of the cloud for the majority of my businesses.

We all know what’s going on. Be mindful of what you are filing your life with. Capitalise on your extra time and changes to your calendar.
Don’t stop marketing your business. Use the time to do the things you don’t normally get the time to do.
· When this is over those businesses that continued to be active and market their business will recover better. It
· It is harder to start again and from ground zero
· Don’t be your best kept secret
· Continue to get out to your audience
· Where do you normally hangout
· Where do your target market hang out?
· Show up consistently wherever you normally hangout

· People still need to be aware of what you do and how you can help
· Build your authority on your expertise and add value to your audience

What I have found throughout all of my years of working from a home office is that you do need to plan and you need to design your week. It doesn't matter whether you're working for yourself, or whether you're working for someone else. It doesn't matter whether you are a multi level marketing business or whether you are a consultant or if whatever type of business you're in. You may be a caregiver or in some of the complimentary services, it doesn't matter. This process will work for anybody. And I use five questions to design my week.

Happy Chemicals in our brain play a role in keeping us motivated, happy, purposeful and on-track. These four chemicals Dopamine, Serotonin, Endorphins and Oxytocin are responsible for that happiness feeling.
These neurotransmitters can be triggered through Gratitude. Oprah Winfrey is a huge advocate for maintaining a gratitude journal.

I have some odd obsessions, I love journals and notepads with cream or off white paper, I have no idea why but, hey I keep the stationary man very happy. The other odd obsession is the use of Sticky Notes. I put my hand up, yes I did not set up a realistic expectation when I started Connect Her. I was caught up in the moment, the excitement and blazoned on through with my un-realistic expectation. It wasn't until the dust had settled, I calmed down. I realised I hadn't really thought things through. I certainly wasn't being realistic in my expectations, I took a moment and then went through my S.M.A.R.T goal setting process and some reverse planning (see episode 017 Reverse Planning) to start setting realist expectations.
