We're a bunch of geeks and gamers that are watching 40 approach, but we notice that so many of our beloved memories are being remade and brought into the now! Join us as we reminisce on the old and review the new, just to see if it holds up.
We all wish we had a super power, right? Typically, invisibility is one the more popular ones. However, have you considered the reality of that power?
This week, we’re continuing with our 2020 OctoBoo film fest and discussing 2000’s ‘Hollow Man’ vs 2020’s ‘The Invisible Man’. This is what might just happen, if our wish came true and it may just be a nightmare!
Elisabeth Shue, Kevin Bacon, Elisabeth Moss and a whole lot of invisible naughtiness, as we disappear for a while. Perhaps, we’re standing right behind you?
Nightmares are terrifying. What if a film captured that same feeling? This week, we’re going to find out, as we’re discussing the original Dario Argento classic ‘Suspiria’ vs the recent remake staring Dakota Johnson.
This film has it all. It’s got witches, dancing, horrifying deaths, rotted food, stabbing and more barbed wire than you can shake a stick at! Seriously, what more could you want?
OctoBoo is officially in full swing, as we begin our first film in this new holiday season! Turn out all the lights, pull your blanket over your head and check under your bed for Joel. Let’s get our scary on!
Remember when you used to play “The Wild West” when you were a kid? What about if you could do that as an adult? What about if this could all be accomplished with hyper-realistic robots that ultimately became sentient and realized all of the horrifying things that had been done to them? Sounds like fun!
This week, we are hopping the train with Ed Harris, Evan Rachel Wood, Anthony Hopkins, Jeffrey Wright and more and heading to ‘Westworld’! While we may all be in fear of the eventual singularity, why not enjoy the time leading up to it with the original film and the current HBO series!
Strap on your six-shooters or six-gun or BangBang McShooty Pistols and saddle up partner! We’re headed to a little place called ‘Westworld’!
As a kid, we don’t think much about our yards, other than they’re fun places to play. As we get older, we learn the horrifying truth about upkeep and mowing and creatures that seek to destroy our peaceful habitat.
This week, we’re hanging around outside and enjoying the great outdoors as we talk about our yards! What made them so great growing up and what do we think about them now, as adults?
The grass may be greener on the other side of the fence, but was it always that way? Tune in and find out as we grab our lawn mowers, Jarts and bug repellent. It’s the yards show!
Some films come along and after you’ve watched them, you spend the next few minutes, hours or days puzzling over what you just witnessed. ‘Jacob’s Ladder’ is one of those films.
On this week’s show, we’re revisiting the 1990 Tim Robbins original and standing it up against the 2019 Michael Early retelling. It’s a difficult story to get right, but what will we think of the most recent attempt?
This is not a film for the casual viewer. This is a film that will remain with you, after the credits roll. Sit back, question reality and take a climb up ‘Jacob’s Ladder’ with us.
The original ‘Watchmen’ series of comic books surpassed the genre and went on to prove that these weren’t just funny books. They proved that these were literature.
As fans of pop culture, we wanted to span the Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons masterwork across all of its iterations.
If you’re a longtime lover of these books or a newcomer to the story, this is an episode you won’t want to miss. Yet the question still remains, “Who watches the Watchmen?”
Who doesn’t love an amazing song? Who doesn’t love an amazing cover of a previously recorded song? We sure as heck do!
On this week’s musical masterwork, we’re taking another trip down memory lane, as we discussing more of our favorite songs from the past that have since been covered by modern artists.
How will this batch fare against the previous ones? It’s an all-out cage match, as ‘Cover Songs III’ steps into the ring!
Draft Picks for 8/13 Cover Songs Show

Throughout the years there are actors that just seem to show up everywhere, and is always knocking the role, no matter how small, out of the park. Most notably is the one and only Steve Buscemi.
From his early days as extras in TV, to everyone noticing this “Mr. Pink” guy in Reservoir Dogs and then his performance in Fargo. While he’s done his time in as the extra, in recent years he has come into his own with roles such as Enoch ‘Nucky’ Thompson in Boardwalk Empire and more bizarre stuff such as Miracle Workers.
In this episode we go through the films and characters of the one and only Steve Buscemi!
Sometimes mysteries get solved, and we sit back and smile as Dr. House, Jessica Fletcher and Sherlock get the “ah-ha!” at the end. (Colombo too!)
But once in a while, a mystery sits there, like a week old banana staring you in the face, saying “I’m still not SOLVED!” That’s where Robert Stack and his team at Unsolved Mysteries comes in. They aren’t afraid of that banana, in fact, they look that banana in the eye and tell it “Not only are we going to help solve you, we’re going to get the WHOLE U.S.A to help out!”
And so started the 10+ seasons of Unsolved Mysteries showing the cold cases, and files that were lost and assumed to remain unsolved, along with a heaping helping of aliens and ghost stories too. Some of Mr. Stack’s mysteries eventually were solved, some still sit to this day.
This week we look at the Unsolved Mysteries that Robert Stack led us through, and compare it to the new Netflix show of the same name. Do the mysteries still remain unsolved, will new light be shed and answers come from the ether? Time will tell.
Music is important part of our lives. As advocates of audio awesomeness, we felt it was time to discuss our favorite albums. While these may not be our all time, singular, favorite album ever produced, it’s certainly at the top of our lists!
If you dig music and like lists, then this may be your favorite episode. What will we choose? Are they favorites of yours as well? Does Right Said Fred make reappearance? You’ll have to listen to find out!
Take a trip down Penny Lane with us, as we travel all along the watchtower to walk 500 miles for you. However, despite this musical journey, I can assure you that ‘Gangnam Style’ is nowhere to be found.
At this point in our lives, there’s no way we’d pass as high schoolers, nor would we want too. However, the fine folks at ’21 Jump Street’ would! Or would they?
On this installment of ’40 Going On 14′, we’re being joined by Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt, Seth Rogan, Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum’ and none other than Ice Cube, as we put on our fake noses and discuss a show like no other. We’re crossing boundaries between TV and film for this very special episode.
If you’ve ever wished you could go back to high school and don’t have a Zoltar in your house, then this may be your next best option. Also, a word of advice: “Next time, drink the milk.”
You might have some leftovers. That’s also the topic of discussion this week!
Mike, Pat, Joel and Josh are all grabbing some nibbles and turning them into a meal. While we’re at it, we’re also going to tackle the hard hitting topic of casseroles. You know em’, you love em’ and you can make em’ out of almost anything in the fridge.
This is one of our favorite types of shows to do, as who doesn’t love food? Grab your spork and a napkin, because this is going to get messy. Mmmm mmmm good!
NORM! Welcome back and get ready for us to raise the bar on this one. This week we’re lifting a class and toasting two amazing and amazingly different sitcoms.
On our alcohol fueled newest episode, we’re discussing ‘Cheers’ and ‘It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia’. Both shows are about bars and the wacky people that inhabit them.
While they may seem like an unlikely combo, like Sam and Diane or Charlie and The Waitress, they’re still two great tastes that taste great together. Pull up a seat next to Cliff Clavin and have a cold one. This one is going to be one heck of a ride.
I think all of us have, at one point or another, wished we were younger or older than we currently are. For our show this week, we’re going back in time to when things were simpler or at least they seemed that way.
We’re spending some time deconstructing ’18 Again!’ and ’17 Again’. Two films that break down the reality of going back and reliving our youth and if it’s all that it’s cracked up to be.
If you dig Matthew Perry, George Burns, Thomas Lennon or Zac Efron, have we got an episode for you. It’s time to go back in time and remember why we’re glad we’re not kids anymore, despite popular belief. What’s my age again?
Hey there, pally! Are you looking for a dandy set of talkies that both tell tall tales of terror and technology? Then look no further!
For this week’s talkiecast, these fine gents at ’40 Going On 14′ are tipping their bowler’s to ‘The Rocketeer’ and ‘Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow’. Which one of these plucky pugilists will come out on top or will both of them be crowned a winner? You’ll have to tune in to see!
Pull the family around the old radiotelegraph machine, throw some popcorn in the kettle and put on your long johns. This show is gonna be aces!
Hawaiian shirts, big mustaches and Ferrari’s. Are we talking about a 70′ key party? Nope. This week we’re spending some time with a man that needs no introduction, ‘Magnum P.I.’.
The four of us grew up with this show, whether it was watching it ourselves or overhearing our parents enjoying it late into the evening. It’s a true watermark of the 80’s, but does it hold up?
Higgins has the dogs locked in the gatehouse and the weather is perfect! There’s a mystery to solve and only one guy has the right tools for the job. That’s right kids, Tom Selleck in ‘The Magnum P.I. Show’!
Music shows tend to be our favorite to record and our listeners favorite to download. Why is that?
Music is personal. Its’ something that we all have experienced and the majority of us have emotional ties to it. Because of this, it can create some heated debates and some hilarious hug fests.
We’re taking this down a peg and dredging up the songs we love to hate. The cringy ones that people generally don’t talk about. Want to find out why and what songs we chose? You’ll have to hear it for yourself!
‘Veronica Mars’ is a show that had such a cult following that it was able to raise enough money to produce a film, after it had been previously cancelled. It then went on to have a 4th and final season, to tie up any loose ends. However, what’s all the fuss about?
For this week’s all-encompassing episode, we’re taking a trip to Neptune, California. It’s a place that may be sunny most of the time, but that’s full of darkness.
If you’re unfamiliar with ‘Veronica Mars’ then this may be your perfect place to start, because so were we when we started. However, by the end of this show, you may just be the newest member of the masses of Marshmallows.
We all gotta sit, right? We all need a place to sleep and a place to listen to our favorite podcast. This week, we’re celebrating the wonderful woodworked winners known as furniture!
Laugh if you will, but there is a topic here and a good one at that! It’s surprising how much an emotional tie people have to their beloved beds or celebrated cedar chests.
Pull up that fancy recliner that your dad used to claim and give this one a listen. The carpenters of ’40 Going On 14′ have built it just right, to meet your specifications. However, OSHA was not happy when they got our report on the number of accidents involved.
We’ve got something new for everyone also! We finally have a store front! Head to TeePublic at this link https://www.teepublic.com/user/fortygofourteen and you can get that “40 Going on 14” mug you’ve always wanted!
What do you get when you take an eye patch wearing mouse, a mustachioed chinchilla and an annoying terrified hamster? Why ‘Danger Mouse’ of course!
For this brand new episode, we are revisiting the original 80’s series and the recently revamped reboot! While this may not be a show that you all remember from your childhood, after this episode you won’t forget it.
Get a bowl of cereal, put on your PJ’s and plop yourself down in front of your podcast listening device. It’s going to be just like Saturday morning cartoons all over again! Now, if I could just get this dang theme song out of my head.
Sound, the final frontier, these are the voyages of the ’40 Going On 14′ Enterprise. To boldy go, where no one has gone before, including the wall behind one of our college dorms.
For our very special episode this week, we’re launching ourselves back into into space again. We’re excited to revisit ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’ and then to experience the brand new series, ‘Picard’. I must admit, we’re all pretty excited about it.
Put on your Starfleet uniform, get something to drink from the Replicator and quit spending so much time on the Holodeck, you pervert. It’s the Jean-Luc Picard mega gigantic spectacular spectacular! Make it so!
A lot of people might refer to us as an ‘Odd Couple’ or ‘Odd Quadruple’, just like Felix Unger and Oscar Madison. Not only do we resemble this film, we’ve also done the stage play and spent time diving into the various television incarnations!
Comedy, when done right, can be a thing of beauty. When it’s done wrong or something goes wrong, it can be the stuff of legends. We’re already fans of the source material, but come spend some time with us and find out what we think about the adaptations.
I know you’re already humming the theme song, so why not finish that up and pop in those ear buds and lend us your ears! ‘The Odd Couple’ is hot out of the internet oven and we’ve saved you a seat at the table. Wash your hands first, please and thank you!
You’re traveling through another dimension, a dimension not only of sights and sounds but of mind. A journey into a wondrous land whose boundaries are that of imagination.
That’s the signpost up ahead, your next stop, the Twilight Zone! If that classic introduction hasn’t made it obvious, this week we’re taking a journey through the original Rod Serling and recent Jordan Peele’s wonderful ‘Twilight Zone’s’. A place that feels all to real these days.
If you haven’t ever visited, then this is your chance to take a guided tour. However, beware, keep your hands and ears inside the podcast at all times. We don’t want anyone ending up with a twist ending or out in a cornfield. Talky Tina will be waiting.
Just a note! While this show was being recorded, we had some “technical difficulties” that may or may not be related to: Aliens, Alternate Dimensions, Deals with Crossroads Demons, Possessed Dolls, Cornfields, or kids that “get their wish”. Or not, we don’t know.
Improv, the art of making things up as you go along. Kind of like our show, but in broadcast television form. For this week’s episode, we’re talking about one of our mutual favorite things: ‘Whose Line Is It Anyway?’.
The BBC gave us a gift in 1988, by introducing the world to this show. Ever since then, it’s been setting the standard for unscripted comedy and bringing laughs to the world.
From Ryan Stiles, Wayne Brady, Colin Mochrie to Drew Carey, Aisha Tyler and the list goes on and on. This is a TV show that has never ceased to make us smile, but wait, the points don’t matter?
Sound, the final frontier, these are the voyages of the ’40 Going On 14′ Enterprise. To boldy go, where no one has gone before, including the wall behind one of our college dorms.

The voice of our generation? Maybe not, but certainly an important voice. From his first full length debut ‘Clerks’ to his most recent ‘Jay and Silent Bob Reboot’, Kevin Smith has been a mainstay in pop culture. We’re wading our way, waist deep, through his entire catalog.
All the films, all the quotable lines and even some fun facts about the man. If you’ve never seen any of his films, then this is a great primer to get your feet wet. It’s time to see find out what 37 means…. in a row?
We’ve all spent our fair share of time hanging out in a record store. For this very special episode, we’re digging through the bins and dusting off some classic vinyl for the ‘High Fidelity’ show! Based on the 1995 novel by Nick Hornby, we’ve got our top 5 lists ready to go track by track though the 2000 original film, starring John Cusack.
We’re also including the extended play version of the 2020 Hulu show of the same name starring Zoe Kravitz. We’re pop culture junkies and music is just as much a part of that as TV, film and books. For this week, we’re covering all the bases! Drop the needle on the podcast and put on those headphones.
This is your own personal mix tape, presented to you in ‘High Fidelity’ by the boys at ’40 Going On 14′.
This week, we’re getting very topical and maybe a little too close to home. With the state of the world today, we’ve decided to cover two films that directly relate: ‘Outbreak’ (1995) and ‘Contagion’ (2011). Dustin Hoffman may not be able to helicopter leap us out of harm’s way and Jude Law’s prosthetic teeth can’t stop the spread of COVID-19, but we’re still doing our best to keep you entertained during these times.
We’re also doing this at a safe distance, for your protection. While you’re hunkered down, why not have a few laughs, think a few thoughts and maybe learn a little something about Capuchin monkeys. However, I recommend that you stay away from eating any bat fed, banana based pork dishes. Just trust me on this one.
On St. Patrick’s Day, you better keep an eye on your pot of gold, as the Leprechaun is on the prowl. This week, we’re gathering up our four leaf clovers and shoes that need repair and watching the original ‘Leprechaun 1993 and the direct sequel ‘Leprechaun Returns’ from 2019. Nah, we’re just kidding.
As an added surprise, we’re being joined by Mike’s brother, Matthew, as we all have the luck of the Irish this week. If you don’t know what you want to listen to today, then you’ve just found the end of the rainbow. Download this episode now and we’ll promise you a pot of gold! (Actual gold not included.)
This week, we’re actually talking about the holiday! All the pinches, green beer and corned beef and cabbage you can handle.
Have you ever experienced déjà vu? That feeling where you’re doing the same thing again, sometimes over and over and over? This week, Bill Murray and Natasha Lyonne are taking us on a guided tour of this phenomenon with the comedy classic ‘Groundhog Day’ and the Netflix original series ‘Russian Doll’.
These two counterparts have a very different take on the concept of living the same days over and over again, but both are a trip worth taking multiple times. Kind of like going back through our old catalog. If you like your comedy/drama a little on the weird side, then we’re the right show to listen to and this is the right episode to enjoy. Don’t podcast angry, because you’ve gotta get up, gotta get out, gotta get home before the morning comes. Have you ever experienced déjà vu?
Stephen King is the modern master of horror and has had a string of hit movies, based on his books. The man has been creating our nightmares for decades.
On this week’s episode, Mike, Pat, Joel and Josh are heading up to The Overlook hotel to check in on the Torrance family. They’ve been tasked with looking after the hotel and things seem to have gone sideways in Stanley Kubrick’s masterwork, ‘The Shining’.
We’re then fast forwarding to modern day, as we catch up with Jack’s son, Daniel, as he is struggling to live his life in Mike Flanagan’s ‘Doctor Sleep’. Who will survive the night? You’ll have to listen to find out! REDRUM!!
One jump, ahead of the bread line. One swing, ahead of the sword. This week, we’re talking something that we all adore.
That is right, we’re taking a trip to Agrabah to hang out with some of our old friends! If you’ve spent any time with the four of us, then you know we’re all ‘Aladdin’ fans. With the home release of the new film, we felt it was time to hop on the magic carpet and see this whole new world.
Abu, Iago, a bunch of monkey’s and a big blue guy that does impressions are all going to be there. Now all we need is 3 wishes and some popcorn. Buckle up kids…. it’s the ‘Aladdin’ show! Now with 50% more Will Smithiness!
It’s that time of year again. Time for St. Valentine to spread the love worldwide. This year, we’re trying something new and the timing was just too perfect with the holiday.
We’ve been struck by Cupid’s arrow and are dedicating this show to the romantic comedy. Each one of us got to pick a film from then and now that we felt represented the genre. With a dash of Billy Crystal, a hint of Hugh Grant, a sprinkle of Seth Rogan and a dollop of Kumail Nanjiani we’re making whoopee.
This is a show that you might want to cuddle up with your loved one to listen too. However, you don’t have to be in a relationship to love the romantic comedy show. Trust me. Rob Lowe has never lied to me before.
I’m feeling hot, hot, hot! Kind of like the Billboard charts. It’s that time again for our annual show where we truly find a divide between then and now. The Christmas music has finally been packed away until next year and we can wallow in the secular songs of superstars.
Will the giant ginger infant be back? Who will we all disagree on from our childhood? All of this will be revealed, as it’s our annual Billboard show! If you only listen to one show a year, this should be the one. PS: Why are you only listening to one show per year?
I remember when I was young, taking vacations with my family. However, for our show this week, we’re taking ‘Vacations’ with a whole different kind of family!
Chevy Chase and Ed Helms have packed a lunch, snacks and a whole lot of misadventures, as we’re taking on the original 1983 ‘National Lampoon’s Vacation’ and driving side by side with 2015’s remake/sequel/soft reboot ‘Vacation’.
There’s going to be a whole lot of laughs as we left comedy take the wheel and steer us towards that magical place…. Wally World. Buckle up, kids and check on the dog, please?
When’s the last time you saw a movie or TV show that didn’t use some kind of CGI? Perhaps it was that time on the ‘Golden Girls’ where Quentin Tarantino plays an Elvis impersonator? On this very special episode, we’re going to provide you with a history and personal recap of the crazy rise of CGI. From its historical beginnings to its modern mastery. It’s a tricky thing, to get that computer generated image to match JUST right in a scene. But when it works, it’s magic. Not the kind that Doug Henning does, however.
With the realization that this was going to be our 314th episode of this podcast, we felt that we would be remiss if we didn’t do a PI show. However, the thought of us talking about PI or just counting off the digits after 3.14, seemed kind of like a bad idea.
During this discussion about PI, we got hungry. So, instead, we’re talking about pie and baking! Everything from when we first started baking, to our failures and successes and why Josh made so many cookies growing up.
If you need a finish to your big meal or just have some extra milk lying around, then this may be an episode that leaves you feeling satisfied. Crank up that oven, because we’re getting baked! Can you smell what The Rock’s got cooking?
What’s ballast? Why do we need one? Will it make any difference in the recording of this episode? You’ll have to listen to find out!
Kurt Russell, Gene Hackman, unsexy Ernest Borgnine, Emmy Rossum, Shelley Winters and the list goes on and on. These are people who don’t listen to our show (that we know of), but that are in the movies we watched! We’re setting out for the high seas, as we discuss ‘The Poseidon Adventure’ and ‘Poseidon’. Two ill-fated journeys, that left the passengers feeling a bit upside down in their problems.
Our show this week is a disaster. A delightful deep dive into these disaster films! We’ve got plenty of life vests and are working quickly to fill any plot holes. Come on it, the water’s fine!
We’ve done the HIPAA show and divulged our health history, but now we’re digging under the skin and pulling out the big guns. It’s the ‘Boo Boo Show’!
On this week’s episode, we’re not talking about ghosts and our bathroom habits. Instead, we’re reviewing our medical records to talk about our biggest and most painful injuries, and the infamous “stint”. As seen below.
WTH, right?
This is a show that might make you cringe, but the good news is…. it’s covered by our health insurance! Does anybody have a bandage?
Sexy Michael Caine is back this week and this time, he’s brought not as sexy Steve Martin. However, he’s not alone. He’s also brought Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson along for the ride! If you haven’t figured it out yet, we’re pulling a scam this week.
We’re FINALLY doing a ‘Dirty, Rotten Scoundrels’ show and comparing it to the remake you didn’t know existed, ‘The Hustle’. Which both are remakes of ‘Bedtime Stories’, but that’s for another show.
If you dig comedies and con artists, then have we got a show for you. Book your flight to Beaumont-sur-Mer, it’s time to meet Ruprecht. Do the hustle! Do do do do da do da do doo da
Puff, puff, watch, my man! The theme this week is ‘Stoner Movies’. Whether you partake in the leafy levitator or not, there’s still something enjoyable about a classic stoner comedy.
We’re packing a bowl full of some of our favorites and some new kind buds to check out. They say that “Laughter is the best medicine.” so this must be medical grade podcasting then.
Cheech and Chong are teaming up with Harold and Kumar and we’re even going to wake up The Guy on the Couch! Every day with us is like ‘Friday’. Smoke em’ if you got em’!
Our lives are filled with music, as our the movies that we enjoy. For this week’s show, we’re revisiting soundtracks, as we dig deeper into the film compilations that compose the canopy of our cinematic choices.
From ‘The Big Chill’ to ‘Baby Driver’, these are the musical maps to some amazing movies. If you’ve ever enjoyed a soundtrack, as much or movie than the film it was from, then this is an episode you won’t want to miss.
We have a seat reserved for you, snug between Mike, Pat, Joel and Josh, as we turn down the lights and get ready for ‘Soundtracks part II’. Who’s got the popcorn?
The 70’s were a weird time. A time full of rapping, kung fu masters, dressed like pimps and loving the ladies. One of the legends of that time is none other than this week’s topic: Dolemite!
Rudy Ray Moore took an idea that was born of a different time, cleaned it up and made it into an icon. Eddie Murphy is now introducing that character to a whole new generation.
If you’ve got time, then we’ve got talk. To don our pimp hats and walk that walk. So dig that funk, cause it’s out of sight. As ’40 Go 14′ raps about ‘Dolemite’!
As we get older, the amount of weddings we attend get more frequent. As we get even older than that, the amount of funerals get more frequent. This week, we’re attending ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral’!
From floppy haired, Hugh Grant to cardboard cutout, Andie MacDowell, we’ve got rice to spare. It all started with a 1994 dramedy and is now being retold in 2019 series, but will this courtship last?
Raise your glasses and toast the happy couple, as they have one foot in the grave and four out the door to their honeymoon. I’m not crying, you’re crying.
Schwarzenegger. We’ve done that show, but we wanted to do a deep dive on the franchise that created a monster. A robot monster.
That’s right, we’re going back to the future to talk about ‘The Terminator’. A series that just won’t seem to die! (And we don’t really want it too.)
Starring Linda Hamilton, Michael Biehn, Christian Bale, Arnold and the list keeps growing. Our future looks bleak, but we’re ready to crush some skulls and liquefy ourselves. Queue the theme music!
Puppets. We’ve all played with them as a child, but very few (if any) of us turned them into a career. This is one man in our lifetime that stands out as being one of a kind in that field; I’m talking about Jim Henson.
This week, we’re taking a hard left turn in his career and turning into a show topic. If you haven’t figured it out by new, Mike, Pat, Joel and Josh are talking about ‘The Dark Crystal’! But we’re not going to stop there, we’re also covering the new Netflix series, ‘The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance’.
If you’ve ever wondered how the guys feel about puppets, then you’re in for a treat! The Chamberlain impressions are going to be flying fast and furious, so don’t forget to bring your ‘A’ game. Mmmmmmmmmmmm?
There comes a time in everyone’s life where they put away their childish things and take on the mantle of adulthood. While most people complete that task, the men from ’40 Going On 14′ opted to stay forever young AND take on the mantle of adulthood! Thankfully, some people still wanted to date them after that!
This week, we’re accessing our dating histories to give you a red carpet tour of our failures, successes and everything in between. Can anybody say, “Awkward?”
But fear not, true believers! The names of the innocents will be edited for content. We know there are some people who may not want to be associated with us. Can you handle the true to life tales of our dating life!? Come on in and find out!
It’s Friday night and you’re in need of something to do. You’re young, have a little extra cash and heard about a cool place downtown. Sounds like you’re in for some live music and so are we!
This week we’re plugging our amplifiers into the past and playing some heavy memory riffs. Mike, Pat, Joel and Josh are checking out the lineup for their own little LiveBand-A-Palooza.
If you dig live music or just want to know how we spent some of our spare time over the past 40+ years, then this is the episode you’ve been pining away for. Has anybody seen my set list, by the way?
For our second installment this OctoBoo, we’re making it a triple feature as we are all spending some quality time at Hill House. If you’re not familiar with it yet, you will be.
Mike, Pat, Joel and Josh have their big boy pants on, as they’re going to investigate a haunting. Along with them for the ride is Julie Harris, Owen Wilson, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Liam Neeson, Lili Taylor and a whole hell of a lot of ghosts.
It’s that time of year again. The time where we dabble in the dark arts and celebrate monsters. If you think you’re up for the challenge, then grab those headphones and dive on in! But beware! As you may just hear a ghostly voice whisper in your ear…. “Wow.”
One, two, Chucky’s coming for you. Wait, that’s another franchise, but still relevant! For our first installment of this truncated OctoBoo, we’re playing with dolls.
That’s right, boys and ghouls, we’re talking about ‘Child’s Play’! Way back in 1988, the world was introduced to Chucky and a horror icon was born. Since then, we’ve had 5 sequels, a potential TV series and now a reboot. It was finally time to talk toys.
If you’ve never experienced any of these films, you’re in for a treat or maybe a trick. Chucky’s about to get lucky, as ’40 Going On 14′ has a pocketful of batteries and some spare time. OctoBoo is underway!
Can you believe it? We’ve made it to 300 episodes! To celebrate this milestone, we’re hopping in the wayback machine and heading back to episode one. By Krom, we’re revisiting Conan!
For this trip, we’re bringing along Mr. No Nose, our rigid snakes, Salsa Doom and the rest of the gang. We are re-watching and discussing ‘Conan the Barbarian’ (1982) and ‘Conan the Barbarian’ (2011)…. again. It’s a meta thing.
Our muscles are bulging and our brows are sweaty. There’s vomit on our sweaters already, mom’s spaghetti. It’s our 300th episode and best one yet-y!
There’s one food that just about everyone loves and no, we’re not talking about fried chicken. On this show, we’re popping some dough in the oven and sprinkling on some toppings for our pizza show!
What are the regional differences? How’s our favorite? Is pineapple an acceptable topping? All of these burning questions will be answered and MORE!
We have a slice waiting for you and it’s hot and ready, just like Pat. The doorbell just rang and your ’40 Going On 14′ delivery guys are here and they brought pizza!
What do Charlton Heston, James Franco, Roddy McDowall and Andy Serkis have in common? They all love monkeying around!
We have rocket full of love that’s headed to Pierre Boulle’s ‘Monkey Planet’, as we take on 1968’s ‘Planet of the Apes’ and 2011’s ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’! The twist is, we’re doing the whole show from the planet earth.
You’ll go bananas for this one, kids. All the way from chimpan-A to chimpanzee. I love you Doctor Zaius!
And as promised…Cliff Richard.
‘I love when Goldie Hawn goes buh-buh-buh-buh-buh-buh-buh and you will too! That’s why this week; we’re joining Kurt Russell and Anna Faris and jumping ‘Overboard’!
If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to take advantage of someone with amnesia and turn them into an indentured servant, then have we got a show for you.
Yeah, this may seem like a bad idea, in this day and age, but never the less, hilarity will ensue! The life raft is fully inflated and the boys of ’40 Going On 14′ have got their Speedo’s on. Come on in, the water’s fine! ‘
For years now, we’ve talked about our patron saint. The man who we’d all like to be like or the man we’d at least like to be friends with. On this momentous occasion, we’re finally dedicating a show just to his highness, the one and only, sexy Michael Caine.
It’s a deep dive into his ever expanding catalog of films and television. We all grew up with him as a part of our lives and at some point, he became something more. At this point, he’s almost a legend.
If you’re already a fan or even if this is your first time being with Mr. Caine, get ready. This is going to be epic. It’s ’40 Going On 14’s tribute to the man, the myth, the legend, the breakfast cereal…. it’s our sexy Michael Caine show!
Just a spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go down, but who needs sugar when this episode is so sweet! We’ve got our umbrellas ready and are flying off to hang out with Mary Poppins for a while.
This week, we’re pitting Julie Andres, Emily Blunt, Dick Van Dyke and Lin-Manuel Miranda against each other in a battle royale of sorts. Who will come out the victor and wear the Disney crown of ears?
Take the day off of work and plop down in your favorite chair, let’s ‘Trip A Little Light Fantastic’! We all need a Mary Poppins in our life.
I’ve been asking myself, if I get caught between the moon and New York City, what is the best that I can do? Perhaps it’s watching ‘Arthur’ 1981 and 2011!
That’s right, we’re getting all liquored up this week and spending some time with Dudley Moore and Russell Brand. Not a bad way to spend an evening.
If you love money, alcohol and comedy, then we’re got the perfect show for you. Hop in your Batmobile and warm up the bath, we’re falling in love with ‘Arthur’!
Shazam! BOOM suddenly, you’re Gomer Pyle USMC. Wait, no, this is actually the Billy Batson show!
In the world of Marvel comics and DC comics, there is one superhero that wears the same moniker of Captain Marvel. On this week’s episode, we’re talking about the DC comic’s version of that hero, who wears a lightning bolt on his chest and that has graced the small and large screen, as well as comic books, since 1939.
For our episode, Zachery Levi and Mark Strong are on deck and ready to take the bad taste of TV’s Michael Gray’s show, also called ‘Shazam!’, out of our mouths. Bring on the thunder! Kachiga!
We’re feeling hot, hot, hot! Not because of the weather, but because this week we’re talking about spicy foods and the YouTube show ‘Hot Ones’!
Mike, Pat, Joel and Josh all have war stories to tell, as we walk down the spice filled memory lane. Choices were made and mistakes happened.
If you’re feeling like you need to heat things up a little, in your earholes, then grab a glass of milk and saddle up partner! We’re gonna make you sweat!
By the power of Gray…. wait. That’s not this week’s show. This week, we’re talking about She-Ra!
As a kid, He-Man was a big part of our childhood, but that was so incredibly popular, that it spun off into another series. We’re taking a deep dive into all things ‘Princess of Power’ related, as Netflix just dropped a reboot of the series.
From all of the aptly named characters, to the origins, up to its modern interpretation, this is the She-Ra show! For the honor of Grayskull. We have the power!
Football! The great American pastime. Prison! The not as great, American pastime. This week, we’ve got a double bill where these two things get mixed up into one big movie, ‘The Longest Yard’!
We’re headed back to 1974, with the mustachioed, Burt Reynolds. Then, we’re fast forwarding to 2005…. with the beardstachioed, Burt Reynolds AND the one and only, Adam Sandler. If you like football, funny and fast food cheeseburgers, then gear up!
We’re at the 1 yard line, ready to score and all we need is to run out the clock. Pop in those ear buds and put on a helmet, then look in the mirror and ask yourself, are you ready for some football?
Do you like songs? Do you like when songs are covered by other artists? What if we told you that in this show, we’re going to talk about songs you like, that are all covered by a band you love?
It’s that time again. We’re doing another covers episode! The hook this time is that all of the covers are being performed by that affable band, Weezer! (Surprise!)
The ’40 Going On 14′ gang has the stereo turned up to 11, for this one. It’s ‘The Covers Show II: Weezer Edition’! Turn it up, man!
What do you get when you add two well known authors, Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, add two well known stars, David Tennant and Michael Sheen, mix and bake at 400 degrees? A six episode miniseries that’s been years in the making! That’s right, true believers, we’re talking about ‘Good Omens’!
This is a first for the ’40 Going On 14′ gents, as we actually read a book for the show. We’re also reviewing the Amazon Prime limited series that is finally retelling the classic tale of the comical apocalypse.
If you’ve never been a fan of the story in the past, you will be. This is a show that’s going to combine all of our favorite things into one big cacophony of chaos! You’re going to need snacks for this one, kids. Let’s run like a bat out of hell to watch and get ready for 326 minutes in heaven, then come back and we’ll talk about it!
‘Catch-22’ noun noun: catch-22; plural noun: catch-22s; noun: catch twenty-two; plural noun: catch twenty-twos – a dilemma or difficult circumstance from which there is no escape because of mutually conflicting or dependent conditions.
We’ve all been there, in that same kind of situation. This week, Mike, Joel and Josh are discussing the finer points of the 1970 original film and the 2019 miniseries based on the Joseph Heller novel, ‘Catch-22’.
Will we find ourselves in our own ‘Catch-22’? In order to find out you’ll have to listen, but if you listen, then you’ll find out. Am I doing this right?
Wax on. Wax off. Two lines of dialogue that are instantly recognizable to almost anyone you know. However, what happened after he swept the leg, Johnny? If you’ve ever wondered, then you’re about to find out.
This week, we’re tackling the original ‘Karate Kid’ vs the recent series ‘Cobra Kai’! This YouTube Premium show is about to start it’s third season soon and it continues to tell the story of Daniel and Johnny and what happens when a pivotal moment in your life has passed.
If you’re a fan of the original films and always felt like there was more to their story, then you won’t want to miss this episode. Did I mention that Elisabeth Shue was involved? Trust me, Pat knew. COBRA KAI! COBRA KAI! COBRA KAI!
Our teenage years are difficult ones, especially when you have lycanthropic tendencies. You know, like when you’re a ‘Teen Wolf’ and the least of your worries is acne or getting your drivers license.
If you haven’t already figured out the topic for this week, we’re taking on the 1985 Michael J. Fox film and the 2011-2017 television series of the same name, ‘Teen Wolf’! For this episode, we’re going to be howling at the moon.
I don’t know about you, but I remember being a teenager and worrying about shaving for the first time. This takes things to a whole different level. Let’s get shapeschwifty!
Sometimes a television show comes along that’s a game changer. In this case, ‘All in the Family’ did just that and started a conversation that has never been duplicated or improved upon. This week, we’re taking an interesting trip down memory lane with Archie and family as we’re comparing it to a modern cast’s take on the identical script from an original episode.
If you think you’ve seen everything in television, then you’re in for a treat. Is it successful or did it die on the vine? You really have to listen to find out and then track down the episodes to see it for yourself.
This is a unique opportunity for ’40 Going On 14′ and one that you won’t want to miss. We’ve got Archie’s chair warmed up for you, so queue the theme song, because ‘All in the Family’ is on!
The 70’s were a weird time for film makers. It was the wild, wild west of wackiness and uninhibited abandon with what movies were made for mass audiences. This week, we’re not talking about those films, but rather the 80’s and 00’s reaction and homage to those movies!
Our comedy double feature consists of ‘I’m Gonna Git You Sucka’ and ‘Black Dynamite’, two off beat takes on the Blaxploitation genre. Complete with funky soundtracks, bad muthas and more soul than you can handle.
If you’re a fan of the entire Wayans family and like your parody films on the absurd end of the spectrum, then you’re going to want to get in on this one. Has anyone seen my goldfish shoes?
Some music shapes a generation. This week we’ve got the honor of being granted an audience with the Queen. Well, of being an audience for Queen.
That’s right; we’re doing something a little different this week. We are taking a trip across the musical history of the band, Queen, as well as discussing the recent biopic, ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’! This is a band that has been a part of all of our lives, for the entire duration of our time on this planet.
Whether you’re a fan or not, you will be, when we’re done. This is a show that’s been decades in the making. Be prepared, because we will rock you or at least entertain you, as another episode bites the dust.
We heard you liked cop shows. Is that true? Tell us where you were on the night of April 28th, 2019. We have reason to believe that you were listening to this brand new episode, all about comedy cop shows!
For any of you that know us, you can already assume that we’re fans of Leslie Nielsen’s ‘Police Squad’. However, you may be surprised to find out how we feel about Andy Samberg’s ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’. I know I was.
We’ve got a pocket full of Giggle Pig, a very literal pack of cigarettes and a few hearty laughs loaded in the chamber of our six shooter. If you’re a law breaker, you’re about to get thrown in the pokey, because you’re under arrest sugar.
I remember a simpler time, when game shows were for adults only. Then came along a scrappy little one that took off like a rocket! Thanks to Nickelodeon and Mr. Mark Summers, this show took the airwaves by storm and this week, we’re taking a plunge into their green slime of history.
If you’ve ever seen the show or even if you haven’t, you can still appreciate the joy of being a kid and winning prizes while having fun. The questions may not always be the hardest and sometimes the physical challenges were impossible, but in the end it was just about the giant nose.
We’ve collected all the flags and greased up the hamster wheel. (Wow. That sounded bad.) We’re talking about ‘Double Dare’ and we triple dog dare you not to listen!
You’ve got to know when to hold them. Know when to fold them. Know when to walk away. Know when to…. wait, wrong movie.
If you haven’t guessed it by that catchy little ditty, we’re talking about ‘The Gambler’ this week! In 1974, James Caan was originally letting it ride, but then Marky Mark took over in 2014 and bet ‘The River’. (Am I doing this right?)
Either way, all bets are off with this episode! We’re going to be making a lot of bad decisions during this one, because we’re going all in. Are you ready? Put on your p-p-p-p-p-p-p-poker face and hit me baby, one more time! It’s ‘The Gambler’ episode! (Seriously, am I doing this right?)
Exercise. A four letter word that in reality has eight letters. This week, we’re getting our workout on, both on our own, but with video help!
This week, it’s the exercise and workout video show! If you can believe it, the guys are actually well versed with the subject. Both in past, present and future, we’ve all put in our blood, sweat and tears. However, none of us have ever had a six pack, unless you count beer.
Get your dumbbells, leotard and VHS copy of ‘Sweatin’ to the Oldies’, it’s time for us to board the pain train!Chugga chugga chugga chugga choo choo! And four more. And three more. And two more.

For this week, I thought we were doing a show on when atoms of light elements are squeezed under enough pressure for their nuclei to undergo fusion. What I soon realized was that neither Lady Gaga or Barbara Streisand had anything to do with fusion. In case you haven’t figured it out yet, this week’s show is all about ‘A Star is Born’!
Bradley Cooper and Kris Kristofferson will also be along for the ride, as we witness a love story for the ages, but not between these two handsome lads. Bring your tissues; this one may be a tear jerker. The ’40 Going On 14′ fellas aren’t crying, you’re the one who’s crying, because ‘A Star is Born’!
Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego? That’s the question we’re asking ourselves this week, as the boys from ’40 Going On 14′ go on a hunt to locate this elusive red coated super thief.
What was once a game show and video game series is now a Netflix animated series. How does this bad girl go good? You’ll have to listen to find out!
We’re going from sedimentary podcast people to Harlem Globetrotters in this action packed episode! You’ll need your passport and a change of underwear, kids, because it’s time to travel the world. Stay classy, Sandiego.
Number 6 needs to meet with number 8. It’s an urgent matter about number 2. Yes, I fully appreciate the potty humor in what I just typed. However, this week, we’re talking about ‘The Prisoner’ and that makes it all mean something else.
Patrick has been waiting for this episode for, literally, years. We finally agreed to be kidnapped, drugged and trapped in a covert location with a bunch of people with no names just to make him happy.
If you’ve never seen this show, then you’re in for a weird trip down an even weirder rabbit hole. Strap in folks, number 6 is going to try and escape and we’re going to try and keep him as ‘The Prisoner’! The only reason we’re doing this, is so that we can spend the entire time talking about number 2.
They say that you need the right tool for the right job. For this show, we’ve got the right tools!
Cinch up your pants and strap on your tool belt, it’s time to give us your best Tim Allen impression. That’s right, we’re talking about tools!
Believe it or not, the guys from ’40 Going on 14′ have some skills and know their way around a hardware store. Now, if they could just figure out the inner workings of how Cricket works. Regardless, open up your toolbox because it’s hammer time!
We’ve been to Riverdale and hung out with Archie and the gang. This week, it’s time to travel to Greendale to meet their spooky counterpart, Sabrina. (Yes, I know that Sabrina also lives in Westbridge.)
With the recent resurgence of Archie and the efforts to bring him into the modern age, Sabrina the Teenage Witch also came along for the ride. We’re going to dissect the original sitcom that was geared towards kids and see how it compares to the much more adult, Netflix series.
This isn’t Hogwarts, kids. Sabrina Spellman already charmed all of the boys of ’40 Going On 14′. will she also cast a spell on you? Just say the magic words and find out: Abrapodcastadabra!

What’s the deal with Jerry Seinfeld? He’s a comedian that’s stood the test of time and a legend in his own right. The ’40 Going On 14′ gang is revisiting his classic sitcom ‘Seinfeld’ and his most recent outing, ‘Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee’.
From a show about nothing, that’s proven to be one of the biggest half hour comedies that ever was, to a deep dive conversation about comedy with some of the biggest stars of today. There seems to be no stopping the man.
If you’re already a fan or this is your first time digging into his catalog, then this is the show for you. No soup for you!
Take one director with a horrible reputation, add two leads that are up and comers, a dash of one crazy actor and a little bit of Billy Connolly and what do you get? This weeks show!
We’re going to war with ‘The Boondock Saints’! A cult classic and a want to be disciple of the Tarantino model. Does it earn it’s place at the table?
It’s all guns blazing, as we sit back and take in all the guts and glory that these two films have to offer. ’40 Going On 14′ is getting righteous!
Who doesn’t love being traumatized as a kid? I know we all do. That’s why this week, we’re heading down the rabbit hole to cover a controversial kids movie, to say the least. This week, it’s ‘Watership Down’!
After seeing this film, you’ll never look at rabbits the same way again. It’s charming tale of brutality that’s a tale as old as time.
If you’ve never seen this one before, this may be your chance to hear what all the fuss is about! These bunnies aren’t the cuddly and fluffy ones you remember. All aboard kids, as this is a true tale of warren peace.
It’s that time of year again, kids. The time when we prove that the music hasn’t died and that four 40+ year olds can still appreciate what the music world has to offer. That’s right, it’s the Billboard show! It’s a hodge podge collection of the “best” the music industry has to offer and what we have to say about it may surprise you. Will the giant ginger infant reappear? Has KISS finally become metal? What ever happened to Baby Jane? You’ll have to listen to find out! Make some popcorn, grab a sword full of cognac, slide on that Snuggie and sit back in your favorite chair and relax. This is going to be an interesting ride.
All of us have our influences in this life. For the gentlemen of ’40 Going On 14′, one of our biggest comedic influences was ‘Monty Python’s Flying Circus’.
This week, is all about the Python. With Netflix releasing a deluge of content, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to take a deep dive into that absurdist pool of hilarity.
We’re going to cover all the best bits, why they ring so true for each of us and what those chaps are up to today. And yes, the parrot sketch IS included!
So…WE’RE BACK!
Yes, after a short-ish hiatus, we have knocked off the cobwebs, cleaned out the idea attic and gotten out heads on straight, now we’re rested and ready to dole out more of that retro-geekgasams that you’ve come to expect from us! We’re glad to be back and figured we’d hit with a high note, so here’s the “Potty Show”! Here at ’40 Going On 14′, we pride ourselves on our highbrow level of sophistication in terms of our humor and conversation. When you listen to one of our shows, it’s not unlike a lecture at Yale University. This week, we’re headed straight to the toilet. That’s right, we’re talking bathrooms. It’s time to honor the man who rules the throne, John Crapper and everything his genius has done for us over the course of our lives. If you are expecting an episode of ’60 Minutes’, the only thing lasting that long is a couple of our host’s visits to the porcelain palace. Let’s get ready to flush out our feelings, as we spend some time in the bathroom!
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! What’s on our wishlists for the holidays? Have you ever gotten what you asked for or was it nothing but socks and sadness?
On this week’s ’40 Going On 14′, we’re going to find out what kinds of goodies we’ve been asking Santa for. Whether it’s as a greedy little kid or a slightly larger adult kid, all will be revealed!
This is our official kick off to the holiday season and we’re starting things off with a bang. It doesn’t matter if you’ve been naughty or nice; this year…. you’re getting a special delivery from Mike, Pat, Joel and Josh!
We all have collections of something, even if it’s just dust. For the lads of ’40 Going On 14′, they collect more than just gray hairs and this week they’re opening up their curio cabinets to share!
We’re talking about collections! Toys, games, movies, books, you name it…. we may have it! Why do we collect what we do? We’re going to get down with the sickness.
Move your stuffed animals off the bed and quit painting your miniatures for a while. This week it’s all about collecting!
We love rock and roll, so put another dime in the MP3 player baby! Or something like that. This week, the boys are taking on the girls, as we’re channeling our inner rock goddesses.
Our focus for this show is all about the women of rock, specifically in a band. Mike, Pat, Joel and Josh have picked a favorite female led band from then and now and are ready to turn it up to 11!
Thrown on your concert t-shirt and push your way to the front of the stage, because this show is gonna rock! Yes. Yes, I just said that.
What kid didn’t want their own robot, growing up? I think all four of us would agree that it would have been pretty awesome. This week, we’re living out a bit of wish fulfillment, as we’re taking on two examples of that dream.
The first, from 1999, is ‘The Iron Giant’. The second, is brand new from 2018, ‘Next Gen’. Two very different films with one unified theme, kick ass robots that are voiced by dudes that are way cooler than us.
After a full month of monsters and mayhem, it’s time to shift gears into kid friendly robots…. and mayhem. Who says you’ve gotta grow up?
The last week of OctoBoo is upon us and what better way to end it, but by celebrating another holiday ‘My Bloody Valentine’. This week, Mike, Pat, Joel and Josh and going spelunking for horror.
We’re digging deep into the Canadian mining culture of 1981 and the 2009, not so Canadian, film that takes place in a mine. We’re bringing this Halloween party to a close with pick ax to the noggin!
Grab your best guy or gal, pop some popcorn and don’t forget your Jensen Ackles plush doll. The boys of ’40 Going On 14′ wants you to be their bloody Valentine…. forever.
George A. Romero is known as the father of the modern zombie film, but he has an entire catalog, outside of those landmark films. This week the four of us are going crazy, with one of those films!
You may not be as familiar with our part 3 selections for this year’s OctoBoo, but you will be when we’re done. We’re diving deep into ‘The Crazies’, both the 1973 Romero original and the 2010 spin on the film. What happens next may surprise you!
Nobody will be safe from the ’40 Going On 14′ virus, once we’ve unleashed our biggest bacteriological laced podcast yet! Silly rabbit, Trixie is for kids!
What do Heather Langenkamp, Doug Bradley and Adam Scott have in common? They’ve all appeared in a ‘Hellraiser’ film! This week, for part 2 of this year’s OctoBoo celebration, we’re taking on the original and most recent installment, ‘Judgment’.
If you ever wondered what happened to Pinhead and the gang, after the original film, now’s your chance to find out! We’re loaded in our bucket, with a one way ticket to ‘Hellraiser’.
But we’ve still got more horrifying sights to show you as the ’40 Going On 14′ crew continues their journey through all the things that go bump in the night. We’re going to tear your podcast apart!
Remember those fun games we used to play as a kid, like 'Killer'? I don't. Luckily the kids from 'Prom Night' do or else we wouldn't have had much of a show!
Can you believe it? 'OctoBoo' is here and we're kicking it off with a little Jamie Lee Curtis and Idris Elba sandwich. We're revisiting our high school dance to the death days as we're taking on 'Prom Night' (1980) and 'Prom Night' (2008).
By the end of this show, you'll learn exactly how different two films with the same name can be. You'll also realize that you really need more Slick in your life. Let's get stabby!
What do you get when you have sexy Sean Connery face off against sexy John Krasinski/Jack Ryan? A whole lot of super sexy spy action, that’s what!
This week, ‘The Hunt for Red October’ is on the lookout for ‘Jack Ryan’ as we pit the earliest and latest incarnations of all the Tom Clancy characters against each other. You can’t handle the truth! (Wait, wrong movie.)
’40 Going On 14′ is going deep undercover in an attempt to flush out the sleeper cell, as we go in both guns blazing. Jack Ryan’s got nothing on us.
Despite popular opinion, Mike, Pat, Joel and Josh were not hatched from an epic eagle on a mountain of fire. We actually were shuffled onto this mortal coil by more conventional standards.
If you haven’t figured it out yet, this week we’re talking about parents! Where did we come from? How did we end up the way we are? How are we as parental figures now?
They say it takes two to tango and from that dance was born ’40 Going On 14′! In the words of the hip hop philosopher, Willard Carroll Smith Jr., “Parents just don’t understand.”
Would you believe, that we’re not secret agents? Although, Pat, Joel and Josh aren’t working for the government, the characters we’re talking about are!
Turn off your cone of silence and listen in as we talk about Agent 86 and Agent 99 from the spy comedy ‘Get Smart’! Don Adams may have passed, but we’ve got Steve Carrell, Anne Hathaway, Dwayne Johnson, Alan Arkin and a whole lot more people stepping in to fill his shoe phone.
This week’s episode you won’t want to keep top secret, as we’re all about to ‘Get Smart’! Well, some of us. I missed it by that much.
What do you get when you have kids fighting kids, in a no holds barred competition to the death, in a dystopian future? This week’s show!
We’re going to pit ‘Battle Royale’ against ‘The Hunger Games’. It’s the fight that’s been years in the making. Fanboys get ready, because this one is big!
If you’re squeamish, be warned…. because ’40 Going On 14′ is going all ‘Lord of the Flies’ and stuff.
There’s an ancient evil that’s lurking beneath a shroud of bandages. Who do you want at the front lines to combat this foe? We have the answer, as this week we’re pitting Brendan Fraser against Tom Cruise in a winner take all mummy fight fest!
Mike, Pat, Joel and Josh are heading to the desert to dig up the dirt on the 1999 action adventure version of ‘The Mummy’ vs the 2017 more action adventurey version ‘The Mummy’ (now with 85% more Russell Crowe)!
Are you ready for the undead? Things are about to get all Egyptian up in this place. Boris Karloff might just be rolling over in his grave right now.
If you knew us when we shared a house together, you may not have believed that we ever cleaned anything in our entire lives. However, you would be wrong! Well, about some of us, maybe.
This week, we’re taking on Trash Monster and kicking him to the curb. It’s true, we here at ’40 Going On 14′ do know how to tidy a room. It’s our cleaning show!

We've already done a show about the man, the myth and the legend: Bruce Campbell. However, we felt the need to delve deeper into his most iconic role, Ashley J. Williams.
This week, we're taking a trip to the cabin and getting deep into 'Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn' and 'Ash vs Evil Dead'! The boys from '40 Going On 14' ain't afraid of no deadites.
Strap on your chainsaw hand and grab your trusty shotgun, because the quotable, bloodfest is about ooze out of your ears. Good Ash, bad Ash, I'm the one with the gun. Gimmie some sugar, baby!
This is our first show, post Gen Con, and there’s something we did a LOT of while we were there…. walking! And what does that have to do with this weeks show? Shoes! We’re lacing up our kicks and taking a stroll down memory lane.
Winter, summer, spring and fall, we’re going to talk about what we wore for them all. It’s something that almost all of use have to use on a daily basis, but not something we always think about very much.

So, you want to time travel, huh? If Bruce Willis and Aaron Stanford have taught me anything, it’s that time travel is not as easy as it looks. It’s dirty, it messes up your mind and it is liable to get you killed.
If you have already been to the future and figured it out, we’re talking about ’12 Monkeys’ this week! From the humble beginning as a short French film, to a Terry Gilliam mind bending masterpiece to a television tour de force. We’re going to cover them all.
’40 Going On 14′ is going to create a paradox of epic proportions as we bring to you, the ’12 Monkeys’ show! And no, they’re not jumping on a bed.
The 80â??s were a different time for movies. Teen romantic comedies were in full swing and no one was safe. While â??Pretty in Pinkâ?? and â??Better Off Deadâ?? may rule the day, there was another little movie that could: â??Canâ??t Buy Me Loveâ??. Now days, we donâ??t come by these as often. So when we heard that â??Canâ??t Buy Me Loveâ?? had been remade, we jumped at the chance to talk about itâ??s modern day counterpart: â??Love Donâ??t Cost A Thingâ??. Get ready for Patrick Dempsey and Nick Cannon to duke it out for our affection, as the boys from â??40 Going On 14â?² go back to high school. Are you ready for love?
The future is a scary place to be. If the movies have taught us anything, itâ??s that a dystopian society is not far off or perhaps itâ??s already here? What on earth are we talking about this week? Thatâ??s right, itâ??s â??Rollerballâ??! In 1975, they predicted what life would be like in 2018 and in 2002 theyâ?¦. well, predicted that Chris Klein would be a leading man! Sadly, they were wrong on both counts. Luckily, the (James) Caan-fro never goes out of style. You may want to dig your roller skates out of storage for this weeks show, because things are about to get a little hairy. Game on, kids. This is â??Rollerballâ??!
Whatâ??s the first thing you reach for, when you wake up in the morning, besides the â??snoozeâ?? button? Coffee, of course! The black beacon of caffeinated comfort. Not all of us drink it, but everyone knows that heavenly smell. This week, weâ??re pouring ourselves a hot cup of java as we delve deeply into the heart of the bean. From itâ??s fascinating origins to how itâ??s ended up being the glue that holds us all together. Weâ??re saluting our magical morning mascot in true â??40 Going On 14' fashion. Grab your favorite mug and wipe the sleep out of your eyes, itâ??s time for some coffee talk!
Elmore Leonard was an amazing talent that is sorely missed. Thankfully, he left behind a legacy that will long outlive any of us. This week weâ??re getting on board his first film adaptation, as we hitch a ride on the â??3:10 to Yumaâ??. In 1957, it was Glenn Ford and Van Heflin in the title roles and then Russell Crowe and Christian Bale in the 2007 remake. How will they compare and could Ben Foster be any cooler? The one thing we know for sure is that Ben Wade is an iconic character that could only have come from the mind of the master. Our six shooters are fully loaded and the train is pulling into the station. All aboard for the â??3:10 to Yumaâ??!
Hey, pally, do you like movies about revenge and being a vigilante? Then have we got a show for you. Weâ??re teaming up Charles Bronson and Bruce Willis for a no holds barred shoot emâ?? up. The â??40 Going On 14â?² gang have a â??Death Wishâ??! The 1974 Michael Winner classic vs the 2018 Eli Roth retelling. Nobody is safe from the long arm of the lone gunman. The bullets will fly and the bad guys will be brought to justice and by justice we meanâ?¦. death! Lock and load, itâ??s time for action!
As a child, we all loved trains. As an adult, they became more utilitarian than fun. But on this weekâ??s show, our train is full of murder! Weâ??re taking a trip on Agatha Christieâ??s fabled railroad as itâ??s all aboard for â??Murder on the Orient Expressâ??. Weâ??ll keep the spoilers at bay, as weâ??ve been taken by surprise by how many people donâ??t know the ending! The conductor will be coming by to check your tickets, so get comfortable because itâ??s going to be bumpy rideâ?¦. of death!
Huey, Dewey and Louie those little buggers who all kind of made us nuts. What possible reason would we dedicate a show to them? â??DuckTalesâ??, thatâ??s why! Thatâ??s right, Scrooge McDuck and Donald are back with the rest of the gang and we couldnâ??t wait to relive our youth. Why wouldnâ??t you want to go on zany misadventures with Launchpad McQuack? If youâ??re in the mood to travel back to Duckburg and get that darn theme song in your head, then this is the show youâ??ve been waiting for. Itâ??s â??DuckTalesâ?? a woo-ooo!
They say April showers bring May flowers, but if you live were 3/4thâ??s of the guys from â??40 Going On 14â?² do, thatâ??s a big fat lie. Regardless of that, weâ??re talking about Spring! That time when the flowers return and all of the dogâ??s hidden treasures reappear. Itâ??s also the season for Spring Break, warmer weather, Easter and all of the things that make the winter worthwhile. Letâ??s grab the lawn chairs and hornet spray and head out to the back deck. Weâ??re ready to relax from mowing the yard and talk about all things green and new. Spring has sprung!
If youâ??re â??Gung Hoâ?? for the new episode of â??40 Going On 14â?², then get ready because this one might leave you â??Speechlessâ??. Weâ??ve assembled the â??Dream Teamâ?? to talk about â??Mr. Momâ?? himself, Michael Keaton. Heâ??s been â??Batmanâ??, Ray Kroc, â??Beetlejuiceâ??. Heâ??s done comedy, drama, horror, action and everything in between. If you havenâ??t figured it out, weâ??re fans. Instead of listening to â??The Other Guysâ??, who are â??Clean and Soberâ??, start living a little â??Johnny Dangerouslyâ??. Just say his name three times: Michael Keaton, Michael Keaton, Michael Keaton and maybe heâ??ll appear!
Danger! Danger! New episode, Will Robinson! Thatâ??s right, kids, the robot is correct. Weâ??re back and feeling a little lost. â??Lost in Spaceâ??! Netflix has rebooted the series for a modern age, but does it improve on the original, campy classic? Mike, Pat, Joel and Josh have stolen the Jupiter 2 and are headed to Alpha Centauri to find out. Will, Penny, Judy, Don, Maureen, John and the ever menacing Dr. Smith, are all along for the ride and things are about to get a little off course! Danger! Danger!
Name one car from your childhood that was always at the top of your wish list to own? If you said, â??The Mach 5â??, then your childhood was awesome. The question is, how will we feel about it when we re-visit the early anime export â??Speed Racerâ??? Racer X, Trixie, Chim Chim, Pops and the rest of the gang will be joining Speed on his fuel filled adventures, but what episode of â??40 Going On 14â?² would be complete without a modern counterpoint? Weâ??re also shifting gears into overdrive with the 2008 film version, â??Speed Racerâ??. Buckle up, kids. This one is going to blow the doors off. Oh and did I mention that Racer X was Speedâ??s long lost brother?
Sitcoms are tricky business. Finding that happy medium between cute, funny, absurd and to then keep it going season after season. There are a lot losers out there. â??News Radioâ?? and â??Parks and Recreationâ?? are the two of the winners and weâ??ve loaded our laugh track and are ready to go. From the business acumen of Jimmy James to the manly wisdom of Ron Swanson. The will they or wonâ??t they of Lisa Miller and Dave Nelson to the pure joy that is Andy Dwyer! Who wouldâ??ve thought that a half an hour of your life would have such an effect on you? Weâ??ve got the remote and some snacks. Why donâ??t you join us on the couch and letâ??s have a laugh!
So, you want to play a game, huh? We do too! Weâ??ve never been accused of playing with a full deck and this week weâ??re going to prove everyone wrong. Itâ??s the non-collectible card game show! From poker to 52 Pick Up, we are going to go all in on this topic. Itâ??s been a show thatâ??s been years in the making. If youâ??ve ever hung out with any of us, then you wonâ??t be surprised that we love our card games. Put away your â??Magic: The Gatheringâ?? cards, because this week, weâ??re going for broke. Whatâ??s a frush?
Weâ??ve all seen the â??buddy copâ?? movies. It seems like a pretty common subgenre of the action film. However, this one may not have been the original, but itâ??s certainly one of the best. Thatâ??s right, this week weâ??re talking about â??Lethal Weaponâ??. From itâ??s humble beginnings in a screenplay by Shane Black, that was brought to life by Richard Donner. Itâ??s now been rebooted in episodic format under the leadership of the one and only McG. How do they fair in a showdown? Youâ??ll have to listen and find out. This is the reason we do this show, kids. Weâ??re never going to be too old for thisâ?¦. stuff.
Drinking. Itâ??s something all 4 of us have done at one point or another. Some on a regular basis and some hardly at all. But one thing we all have in common, bars. What bars did we misspend our youth in? Which bars are our favorite? What is it about drinking establishments that has caused them to play such a regular part of our lives? This week weâ??re grabbing a stool, avoiding the pretzels and ordering another round. Itâ??s the bars show! Cheers!
Would you like to play a game? The kind that could end your life? This week, the boys are putting their own safety at risk to play, â??Jumanjiâ??! Weâ??re rolling the dice and hoping Robin Williams, along with Dwayne Johns and Jack Black can save us. Anything can happen, from killer crocs, to a barrel full of monkeyâ??s or even cake. Grab David Alan Grier and tell him we need his services again, because Kevin Hart is about to explode! Jumanji!
If you were film goer in the 90â??s, then you saw the landscape of cinema change. It wasnâ??t one single person who changed it, but one of the biggest influences was certainly Quentin Tarantino. This week weâ??re celebrating the entire catalog of the most kinetic, engaging and entertaining film makers of the past couple of decades. â??Reservoir Dogsâ??, â??Pulp Fictionâ?? and â??Kill Billâ?? just to name a few. Way back in 1982 we really knew nothing about computers, and that was extremely evident when the TRON was released. But the idea of there being living, active, human like programs living in there was something that we as kids loved. With Flynn and TRON fighting the MCP, the super cool lightcycles, and the use of actual computer generated effects it was hard not to duct tape your frisbee to your back and pretend your bike was leaving a wall of solid light behind it. Toss in the arcade game and you had an entire summer to simmer in TRONish goodness. Come 2010, we know how computers work, digital effects are commonplace, and we donâ??t even know where our frisbees are. Then TRON: Legacy gets released, giving us another look into the Grid, and with it the obligatory video games and toys. Does the story hold? Do we still love the idea of programs existing as beings in our hard drives? Do we still have a data disk taped to our back? Find out this week in the TRON show!

That time where you ditched the parents, spent the summer in a kinda funky smelling tent with kinda funky smelling bunkmates! Then we thought of summer camp movies, and that bastion of camp flicks, Meatballs, with none other than Bill Murray! Remember what a teen sex camp comedy it was? Or was it? Then we needed a now, so we went to 2001â??s â??Wet Hot American Summerâ??! How wacky that one was with itâ??sâ?¦.talking can of vegetables? Huh. So join the guys in the Wet Hot American Meatballs show!
Years ago, we discovered a game that allowed us to become someone else, a fighter, ranger, swashbuckler, thief, or wizard. This game introduced us to worlds of our own creation, monsters that needed slaying, princesses that needed saving and treasure that needed looting, or in some of our cases, just outright stealing. That game was Dungeons & Dragons, Gary Gygax and Dave Arensonâ??s baby, one that has lasted over 40 years, and one that was the catalyst of many great friendships over the years. Yeah, I heard you roll your eyes on that. Give it a chance, roll up a character, and polish off your dice, now get ready for the Dungeons & Dragons show!
For many years there has been an feature animated studio that has created movies that touched you, scared you, and often startled you with their topicsâ?¦no not PIXAR! Studio Ghibli! So we decided to fix this by watching Naussica of the Valley of the Wind and Howlâ??s Moving Castle! One from the 80â??s and one from the 00â??s! Join the guys as they see how Japan does their animation!
The flash of a three sided laser, the growl, and that shimmer as the forest moves just a bitâ?¦.youâ??re being hunted, and weâ??re all going to die. YAY! Itâ??s time for the Predators show! Back in 87, Arnold fought the alien hunter in the forests of South America, and lived. In 2010, Adrien Brody (?!) fights the Predators on an alien planet andâ?¦wellâ?¦spoilers for a 5 year old movie? Way back in 89, there was a show, one that would ruin the family, cause your kids to become juvenile delinquents, and just all out destroy your life. That show? Full House. But we knew that already. Another show that debuted that year is the Simpsons, one that had some bad press, some irrational comments made, and was for a moment the scapegoat for all hi-jinks that occurred. This week the guys take a look back and see if the episodes we loved are really as good as we remember, and if the over 25 year old show still has itâ??s magic. So join us for a show full of comedy, bad impersonations, and quotes galore as we step into the Simpsons Show!
Dinosaurs, the great equalizer. Everyone loves a good dinosaur movie, but up until 1993, there really werenâ??t any really good dinosaur movies out there! Sure, we had â??Land Of The Lostâ?? on TV, and a ton of Godzilla movies out there, but nothing that was a solid DINOSAUR MOVIE. Michael Crichton and Steven Spielberg changed all that. In 1993 we saw what would become THE dinosaur movie. Sure there were sequels, and they wereâ?¦definitely movies that had Dinos in it. But anyone who saw Jurassic Park when it released can remember that feeling when Muldoon (BAD. ASS.) was trying to save the gatekeeper from velociraptors, you knew you were in for a ride. Now in 2015, we get Jurassic World, a true sequel to the first movie, this takes place 25 years after the disastrous events of Jurassic Park. With Chris Pratt, and Bryce Dallas Howard taking the lead weâ??re led down another path where nature swats down man over his hubris. So, join the guys and step through the gate into the Jurassic Show!

Join the guys as they go back to days of text based games, and then to the 3-D online games that are around now!
Back in the day we used to get our recipes off the TV! No, really! There were actual shows that taught us how to cook! This was before you could go to Epicurious.com and download a new recipe, before YouTube and Netflix let you stop and rewind, because you just didnâ??t understand that last ingredientâ?¦was is baking soda? Was is baking powder? Why does he have a bowl of nutmeg now? I missed that last part!!! Join the guys as we go back to Julia Child, The Frugal Gourmet, and The Cajun Cook, then jump forward to Good Eats, Barefoot Contessa, and The Naked Chef!

Welcome to the (now ) Second Annual Billboard top 10 show! Where we take a listen to the top 10 of the then and now and see whatâ??s cookinâ?? â?? this time around the years are 2015 (â??natch) and 1985, why? Because Back to the Future! Join Mike, Pat, Joel and Josh as they listen to the Billboard top 10 then and now!
Whatâ??s the deal with 40 Going On 14? Yeah, thatâ??s really all I had at the outset, not really funny at all. But you know whatâ??s really funny? Stand up comedy! Yep. We take a turn on stage this week talking about the comedians from out past that we loved, George Carlin, Robin Williams, Don Rickles, just to name a few. (If you donâ??t know who Don Rickles is go look him up you hockey puck!) Then we take a gander at the comedy styling of Louis CK, Patton Oswalt, and John Mulaney.
We realized this month, after doing our first western movie show (True Grits!) that we needed to get a new category off the ground, so we went East young man and jumped on the anime bandwagon with Berserk and Attack on Titan! We're delving into the dark fantasy of both of these past classics, and new hot stuff. So join us as we get into a slightly awkward waterbucket fight and find a girl that likes food possibly a little too much, in the Berserk Titans show!
Sheâ??s looking for someone with True Grit, someone who can avenge her fathers death, who can lead her through the inâ??jun lands with no problem, and who can charge, outnumbered 4 to 1, with the reigns in his teeth while firing a six gun in one hand and rifle in the other while doing that SWEET RELOAD SPIN! Welcome to our first Western Film show! This week we watch True Grit, both the John Wayne 1969 and then the Jeff Bridges 2010 versions, and weigh in on both. How do they stand up? Which western is better? How much can you get a dead body for, sans teeth? Most of these will be answered this week on 40 Going On 14!
Itâ??s time to start the music, and itâ??s time to light the lights! If thereâ??s one thing we know for certian, itâ??s this; Donâ??t trust anyone who doesnâ??t like the Muppets. No matter when youâ??re watching, who youâ??re watching with, or what episode or movie it is, everyone loves the Muppets. From the beginnings of the Muppet Show, Muppet Movie and their adventures in Manhattan, Treasure Island and Space to their You Tube channel, acquisition by Disney, and two new movies we get our Henson on with The Muppet Showâ?¦SHOW!
Heâ??s a bad motherf-Shut yoâ?? mouth! Yes, this week we finally get it together and do the Shaft show, that hard hitting, lover of the ladies and defender of Harlem, Iâ??m talkinâ?? about Shaft. We discuss the Richard Roundtree 1971 original, and then go to 2000â??s Samuel L. Jackson â??sequelâ??. Get the guys together, $10,000 a head, and have a listen to the Shaft Show!
From the humble origins with John Weaver, to the genius of Marcel Marceau and the bizarre Mummenschanz, all the way to the new origins of the Blue Man Group and Ellen Mattsson we take a look at the world of MIMES then and now!
Do you remember when your phone had a 10 foot cord attached? We do. Do you remember text based websites for your phone? We do. Do you remember party lines? Actually, on this oneâ?¦. we donâ??t either. This week Josh, Pat and Joel spend an entire episode talking about the progression of telecommunications from then to now, including the joys of dial up internet! Remember when you had time to make a sandwich, while waiting for a picture of Gillian Anderson to download? Those were the days. Dark, dark days. If any of those things ring a bell, then this is the episode for you! Sit back, fire up the modem and get your dialing finger ready. This is the episode youâ??ll want to text your mom about!
When we record, right before we go live, the guys have a break to get a drink. Weâ??re a pretty diverse crowd when it come to drinking, and have consumed everything from microbrews, ciders, wine, scotch and a bunch of others. But what about then? Were any of us the one to sneak a drink out of dadâ??s liquor cabinet? What was our â??first drinkâ??? What was the drink of choice back then, and what are we sipping now? Join us on a trip through the past with stops at Bartles & Jaymes, Zima, Cicsco, and others, then take a listen at what weâ??re drinking now on The Booze Show!
Itâ??s here, you didnâ??t know you wanted it, but weâ??re sending it out to all you full steam ahead! Itâ??s our SWIMSUIT ISSUE! Wait, where are you going? No, itâ??s not US in swimsuits, this week weâ??re taking a look at the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue! Yes, that magazine that we could sneakily take a peek at while our parents were grocery shopping, and the ones that we had in collegeâ?¦or did we? The world may never know. (Wait, thatâ??s Tootsie-Pops? Crud.)
Some times youâ??re so angry you need to get out to an abandoned factory and dance. Said about two people ever. This week the guys break out their tank tops and dance out their anger by watching both the Kevin Bacon epic Footloose, and the 2011 remake. Which one will win this dance off? The only way to find out is to gather the High School kids, write an ill fated speech to the town counsel and wait for a town event that will change the way everyone thinks. So, yeah, you got a chance.
If you want to continue reading this promo, turn to page 67, if youâ??d rather fight the Aardvark turn to page 72 and FIGHT! If any of that made sense to you, then you have, at one time or another, read a Choose Your Own Adventure book. Youâ??ve delved into the Cavern of Time, Chimney Rock and possibly escaped Deadwood City. Good times. This week we keep our finger on the last choice and see whatâ??s around the next page with CYOA books, and take a bit of a turn with Fighting Fantasy Gamebooks, Joe Deverâ??s Lone Wolf series and even played some on E-book and Android app! So get out your bookmarks, and keep that last page saved, because you never know whatâ??s around the next corner in the Choose Your Own Adventure show! Damnâ?¦I fell down a hole and diedâ?¦
Remember your first home video game console? Was it the Atari 2600? The NES? Genesis?â?¦.If it was the Playstation 3, we donâ??t wanna hear about it, that makes us feel old. Either way, this week we take a walk through Video Game Consoles! From the very beginnings of the Atari 2600 to the latest machines like the Xbox One and PS4, the guys flashback on the many, manyâ?¦.MANY hours we spent playing these systems. So, get your NES blown and jump on in!
I seems that there really is only one â??Big Gameâ??, and thatâ??s the Superbowl. Weâ??ve watched it, the commercials, the halftime show, both now and then, though the then for us is a lot of Bears talk, because Chicagoans. This week we look at the game, the history and the silliness that comes with all of it and turned it into our Superbowl Show!
Every multi-million dollar blockbuster movie out there has a twin, granted this twin is missing 6 teeth, is cross-eyed, has 9 or 12 fingers and can only communicate in a series of grunts and whistles, but for all in intents and purposes is a â??twinâ??. The Star Wars that we know and love? Yep, itâ??s short-bus twin is Starcrash, a 1978 Italian Sci-fi â??epicâ?? that stars Caroline Munro, Christopher Plummer and a young and heavily mascaraed David Hasselhoff. Weâ??re warning you, this is some terrible stuff, think Critters, but without all the social commentary and Faustian subtext. We claim no responsibility for anything that happens when you watch it, and thatâ??s the better of the two we watched. In the now, we decided to punish ourselves with the 2009 Transformers rip-off, Transmorphers. This direct to DVD assault on logic and senses stars (very loosely using that word.) Matthew Wolf, Amy Weber, Shaley Scott, Eliza Swenson, Griff Furst, Michael Tower, Sarah Hall and Erin Evans. You may notice that I did not link any of those names, this is because we donâ??t want you to even accidently discover anything else they may have done. This movie almost make Pat walk out, and in some strange twist of chance, has WORSE special effects than the 1978 Starcrash. Weâ??ve warned you
There are things that last forever, there are things that seem to have been around always, then you have the Eternals. It just seems that Bill Murray has been, and ever will be, and thatâ??s just the way it is. This week the guys jump into the movie history of the one and only Bill Murray, from his start in Meatballs (yeah, he had some stuff before that, but weâ??re counting this as the first.) to him as Peter Venkman in Ghostbusters, Stripes, and even some little known on screen in such movies as Little Shop of Horrors. We go through all of them (that weâ??ve seen) and talk about the one man in Hollywood that no one minds showing up at their front door. This week itâ??s all about the Murray.
Ah, the tradition continues. Hit the grocery store, do some shopping for the week, get all checked out and then beg for quarters for the vending machines! Yep, we recall those red twisty machines from our youth, those little capsules full of enough entertainment to get us home, possibly for a few days later if we didnâ??t lose whatever â??made in Chinaâ?? delight that we lucked out to get. Good times. So this week the guys take a moment to recall what we got out of those machines, what almost blinded our father, what covered the walls of our bedroom, and which candy was our favorite. Join Mike, Pat, Joel and Josh as they take a gander at CAPSULE TOYS! Nowâ?¦Iâ??m gonna run by the local store to grab one for myselfâ?¦wut? TWO BUCKS?
This week on 40 Going On 14 we take a double flying jump kick to the face with the one-two punch of 1985â??s â??Barry Gordyâ??s The Last Dragonâ?? and the RZA classic (!?) â??The Man With the Iron Fistâ?? in a niche movie category of â??Kung-Fu movies with a black lead which was produced by someone in musicâ??. So, yeah after we chose that category we were pretty much left with only these two. So, strap on your gunblade, put on your shoulder pads, get your iron fists on and feel the Glowâ?¦because â??WHOâ??S THE MASTER?!â??
Back in the 80â??s there was thingâ?¦thingâ?¦going around, Turtle Fever people called it, and every kid had it. We admit it, at least Joel, Josh and Mike do, we watched and read Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles all the time. Then in 1990, the live action movie came out, and we were stoked, FINALLY to see all the Turtles, April and Casey Jones for real! Well, just recently the remake came out on Blu-Ray, and we saw our chance and took it. So get your masks on, finish sparring with Splinter, and chow down on those last few pieces of pizzaâ?¦.this week itâ??s TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES!
