The Galesburg Silver Streaks football team went on the road to Geneseo for their 2nd Western Big 6 Conference game of the season. The Maple Leafs engineered a scoring drive in the 4th quarter that put them on top with just over a minute to go in the game and they went on to win, 28 - 21. The Streaks had a number of opportunities in the 2nd half to get the points that they needed, but it was Geneseo that prevailed and got their first conference win of the season. Jamar Range had an incredible game with 36 carries for the Silver Streaks for a total of 349 yards and 3 touchdowns. The Dave's Autobody Crunch Time Player of the Game was Streaks' offensive center, Asher Whitcomb. He was out last week due to an injury, and his return for tonight's game made a huge difference in the rhythm of the offense. Due to a referee shortage, next week's game at Van Dyke Field has been moved to Thursday (10/3) night for the Streaks' conference game with the Quincy Blue Devils.

Monday night at John Thiel Gym, the Galesburg boys basketball team beat Geneseo for the third time this season and advanced in the Regionals. The Silver Streaks won, 57-39, and improve to 11-20 on the season. Galesburg will now play the defending 3A state champs, the Metamora Redbirds, Wednesday night in the Geneseo Regional Semifinals game. Galesburg shot 42% from the field and 35% from 3-point range. The Silver Streaks won in the turnover battle, only giving up the ball 8 times to Geneseo's 14 turnovers. Galesburg is 7-1 when they commit fewer turnovers than their opponent. And with a win in their final game at John Thiel Gym this season, the Silver Streaks have a winning record on their home court at 8-6. They played less than half of their games at home this season. The Streaks were led in scoring by Jackson Crock Sibbing with 19 points, including four 3-pointers, Jace Keith scored 16 points with 6 rebounds and 5 assists, Ethan Oxley had 8 points with 6 rebounds, Gino Williams finished with 7 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists, while Tyree Tayler scored 7 points with 4 rebounds. In the 3rd quarter, Geneseo cut the lead down to 4 points at 29-25. But on the Maple Leafs' first missed shot of the quarter, Jackson Crock Sibbing got the rebound, and then on the other end drained a 3-point shot to end the Maple Leafs' scoring run at that point. For that clutch 3-pointer to swing the momentum back to Galesburg, and for achieving his career high in rebounds for a game, Jackson Crock Sibbing was named the Dave’s Auto Body Crunch-Time Player of the Game. JCS finished the night with 19 points and 8 rebounds. Galesburg continues in the Regional playing next at Geneseo against the #1 ranked Metamora Redbirds in the semifinal game. In the Regional Championship game Thursday night at John Thiel Gym, the Galesburg girls basketball team struggled to put points on the board and fell to the Morton Potters, 41-29. A great season comes to an end for Galesburg with a record of 26-7. The only player with double-digits scoring for the Silver Streaks was Kiarra Kilgore with 10 points, along with 4 rebounds, 3 steals and an assist. Antonia Kisler scored 8 points and had 2 rebounds, 5 points for Jozalyn Kilgore off the bench along with 3 rebounds and an assist,  Alexis Edgerson scored 3 points and so did Ella Herchenroder along with 2 rebounds and an assist. In the 3rd quarter, a key play by freshman Jozalyn Kilgore got the Streaks right back in the game. Jozalyn had an offensive rebound and put-back where she got fouled for a traditional three-point play, and at that point in the game, kept the Streaks in it. So for her great effort coming off the bench, Jozalyn Kilgore was named the Dave’s Auto Body Crunch-Time Player of the Game. The high school basketball careers come to an end for Silver Streaks seniors Kiarra Kilgore, Antonia Kisler, Alexis Edgerson, Syriah Boyd and Addison Peck. Kiarra has plans to play college basketball at Missouri School of Science and Technology, and Antonia will be playing for Carl Sandburg College.   Click play to hear a comment from Coach Massey in the postgame interview with Tom Meredith about this year's group of seniors: https://www.wgil.galesburg.info/sports/021524ghsgirls_CoachMassey.mp3     Congratulations to the 2023-24 Galesburg Silver Streaks girls basketball team and Coach Evan Massey on another exciting season!

Next up for Galesburg is the opening round of Regionals on Monday (2/19) night, which they will host at John Thiel Gym in a rematch with Geneseo.
