This week, tune in to hear two local music teachers talk. J interviews Maastricht musicienne Maxime and they talk about creative process, changing lineups, and breathing techniques. 🌸please forgive the audio issues in this episode Maxime Cathalina is a Dutch R&B songstress and songwriter. She was born and raised in the picturesque city of Maastricht to a Caribbean father and Dutch mother. Music was her first love: she already sang before she learned how to speak. Exposure to artists such as India.Arie, Sade, Musiq Soulchild and Craig David led her to write her first songs at ten years old. For over a decade, she’s been the female half of alternative R&B duo Maxime x Glyn. Now, a new era has started for her as a solo artist. Conveying narratives about life’s most pertinent lessons, such as (self-)love, loss, desire, vulnerability and spiritual empowerment, she writes heartfelt and relatable stories. With warm, soothing vocals, Maxime Cathalina sings soulful, mellifluous melodies rooted in her authentic self – a journey that has only just begun.

Democratic deficit in the European Union refers to the perceived lack of accountability, transparency, and democracy in the decision-making processes of the EU institutions. Critics argue that the EU's complex system of governance, with a large number of decision-making bodies and a lack of clear lines of responsibility, makes it difficult for citizens to have a say in how the Union is governed. This has led to concerns about a democratic deficit that undermines the legitimacy of the EU and its decision-making processes.FledermausFantasies will be performing live at the Landbouwbelang on Friday 28th April 2023 at 21:00h. Taxes! Paperwork! Bureaucracy!

Society, as we know it, functions with some semblance of structure. In the case of Maastricht, and most cities, the municipality is in charge of negotiating and managing the lives of its civilians. Usually this is fine, but sometimes bureaucratic mistakes incur real human consequence.

This broadcast, we spoke to Helena, a small business owner. Her gelato shop, Gelateria Candiero was forced into closure after a long-winded, confusing, and frustrating stint with municipal bureaucracy. We discuss her story and its implications on bureaucratic systems.

This week’s episode Luna will delve into the realm of a blob that might hold secrets about our own intelligence - it can make up complete railway networks, solve mazes and even “mind”-control a robot.

The name of the blob? Slime mould.

A yellow gooey creature that scavenges the environment by stretching and pulsating its gigantic unicellular body - do not be fooled by its name, this fellow is neither a mould, nor a fungi - but something called a Protist! 🧫 Luna will be leading this interview across continents with 3 slime mould scientists: Chris Reid, Andy Adamatzky and Andrew Schumann!

These are all very important questions, but perhaps most importantly; where really is this unnamed rave at an undisclosed location?

Rubi from Student Radio Maastricht Here:

I'm posting here to reach as many people as possible on this day. Today marks a painful day for the trans community, it is Trans Day of Remembrance (TDOR), a day to remember and honour the trans siblings we have lost to violence and death, so far 331 murders of trans people have occurred this year... and that is only the official count. It is a day we stand in solidarity and show that we as a community will not be silenced.

To mark this day, I will be on the radio 6-7pm tonight spinning tracks from only trans and GNC DJs, bringing queerness to the airwaves. Much love to you all and reach out to your trans friends, today they might need some love.
