Feminists of Maastricht (FoM) is an Intersectional feminist collective based in Maastricht passionate about fact-based gender equality education. She was born and raised in the picturesque city of Maastricht to a Caribbean father and Dutch mother. Music was her first love: she already sang before she learned how to speak. Exposure to artists such as India.Arie, Sade, Musiq Soulchild and Craig David led her to write her first songs at ten years old. For over a decade, she’s been the female half of alternative R&B duo Maxime x Glyn. Now, a new era has started for her as a solo artist. Sebastian Prince is a 23-year-old singer & songwriter from Germany. His music is of vast variety, going from soft and simple ballads to indie-pop-rock or disco-pop songs. He has been singing his whole life and started songwriting around the age of 14. Sebastian is currently pursuing a master’s degree in jazz vocals at the Conservatory of Maastricht, where he has been studying since 2018. Since September 2022 he is releasing the first singles of his upcoming debut album ‘Prince’, which is going to be published on Friday, the 14th of April 2023. Friday, the 10th of February, his 4th single ‘Not What Lovers Do’ is going to be released. Being able to reach and connect to people with his music is his biggest treasure.

This episode is about the situation of refugees and migrants in Europe.
During this second hour, we will talk about the situation of migrants and refugees in Calais, France. The student-led organization Maastricht Goes to Calais fundraises money for the people in Calais by organizing activities in form of social events, outdoor activities and much more. They also use these events as opportunities to collect clothing and other donations to bring to the NGOs that work locally in Calais and to raise awareness for the situation.

During this first hour we will talk to Dr. Michaella Vanore, a research fellow at the Maastricht Graduate School of Governance, where she works as a researcher and lecturer on migration and development. Moreover, the Maastricht-based organization “Maastricht goes to Calais” will be with us to discuss the fundraising but to also raise awareness in regard to developments in EU migration policies and to further curate an understanding of the challenges faced in Calais in particular.

In this episode I talk about Queer Psychology with Gabriela Moita. Gabriela obtained her PhD in 2001 from the university of Porto writing about "discourses on homosexuality in the clinical context". In the first half of the podcast we discuss the omnipresence of heteronormativity within the field of psychoanalysis. Consequently, Gabriela explains why she therefore prefers psychodrama as it enables people to set their own frame and rules of the game instead of being pushed into predetermined ones. In the second half, we turn towards identity and Gabriela talks about her work with the LGBTQIA+ community. Diversity is all about celebrating all the ways that make us unique! Because we are all different and that is incredibly beautiful ❤🦄 But what does diversity and inclusion at uni (or at work) mean? How do we know it has been achieved? We have invited some wonderful guests from Diversity & Inclusivity Office (Maastricht University) and from ACMUS to tell us their perspective on diversity and to tell us what is being done at Maastricht University to create an environment where everyone feels welcome and heard. 🤗🤗🤗 Later on, we will discuss how this is being tackled at Zuyd Hogeschool and our personal experiences.
In the second hour of show we will discuss another serious topic: Maastricht culture and media. Gemeente Maastricht is planning on making major budget cuts on the local media and culture. One of these is cutting all funding for RTV Maastricht.
We've been trying for weeks to get someone from gemeente maastricht to talk to us about these plans and explain why they're planning to take these steps. Unfortunately we haven't been able to find anyone from the gemeente who wanted to make the time to talk to us about this.
But don't worry! We will have 2 special guests in our show this week that can give us the ins and outs on the current situation, and want to discuss the consequences this will have on our city.
Francois from RTV Maastricht will join us for the conversation, and will update us on RTVM's budget and the importance of a this local media platform. Alexander Lurvink, who started his own party within the gemeente, will also join us with his expertise and insights on how to step up.

The oak processionary caterpillars have been the reason for so many nuances for such a long time they even have their own research centers fully dedicated to studying their impact and development. 🕵️♀️📖 Every year, millions of euros are spent on controlling this species and yet, no progress has been made at keeping the caterpillars in check.
We will talk to a team of students at the Maastricht Science Programme who have decided to put an end to all of this once and for all. As part of the iGEM competition, they are developing a project that is set to finally create an environmentally friendly solution to the caterpillar infestation. 🌿💚
As part of the conversation we will also have the lovely insights from our tree-man, Jim Haagmans. What can he say about the impact of the caterpillars on the trees? What are the relationships between the trees and this species and other insects? How do they all connect?

We Care is a student-run organization dedicated to aiding the process of recovery of those who have been victims of sexual violence in Maastricht. They offer kindness, empathy, and support to those who need it. Currently, Cecile and Zahra of We Care are working on their documentary entitled "Sunny Afternoon."
The documentary intends on taking a different approach to the topic of sexual violence; it seeks to empower those who have experienced sexual violence and to demystify misconceptions around survivors, abusers, and toxic ideas of dominance that are pervasive in our social consciousness.

Society, as we know it, functions with some semblance of structure. In the case of Maastricht, and most cities, the municipality is in charge of negotiating and managing the lives of its civilians. Usually this is fine, but sometimes bureaucratic mistakes incur real human consequence.
This broadcast, we spoke to Helena, a small business owner. Her gelato shop, Gelateria Candiero was forced into closure after a long-winded, confusing, and frustrating stint with municipal bureaucracy. We discuss her story and its implications on bureaucratic systems.

I'm posting here to reach as many people as possible on this day. Today marks a painful day for the trans community, it is Trans Day of Remembrance (TDOR), a day to remember and honour the trans siblings we have lost to violence and death, so far 331 murders of trans people have occurred this year... and that is only the official count. It is a day we stand in solidarity and show that we as a community will not be silenced.
To mark this day, I will be on the radio 6-7pm tonight spinning tracks from only trans and GNC DJs, bringing queerness to the airwaves. Much love to you all and reach out to your trans friends, today they might need some love.
