I'm back after a month off to react to Biden getting elected, and to toss out some hot predictions for the next four years. It'll be interesting to look back in a few years to see how right or wrong I am about some of this stuff.

My next episode will be about a computer hacker from the Eighties.

I had a great talk with Dustin from talesofexile.com - Dustin is a survivor, and he has made it his mission to let others know they're not alone. This is the second in a series of former Jehovah's Witness members. I've learned a lot about this religion/cult in the last month or so, and it's been an eye-opener for me.

Are you in a situation you don't want to be in? Know that you're not alone.

We have become divided. Through social construction and meticulous higher forces, some hidden and others in plain sight, our country has been torn apart to the point where we cannot even talk to each other anymore. That's where this episode comes in.

Episode #186 of The Michael Baston Podcast features two people from opposite ends of the political spectrum answering six identical questions, and one question specific to their party. These are two separate interviews, conducted by me, which avoids the confrontational "debate" format in order to allow each person to express their opinions and views as clearly as possible.

My intent in this episode was simply to listen. I fell slightly short of that goal in an unplanned attempt to hash out my own views, as I ended up interjecting some personal opinions into each conversation, as well as challenging both guests on certain issues.

When you choose to shut off another person because you don't like their views then that person becomes an enemy. Enemies destroy each other. We are destroying each other every day in the United States. This episode is my attempt to slow our destruction through the power of conversation. I implore you to listen to every second of each of these interviews. Comment on YouTube what you agree with and disagree with. How can I do this better next time? Where were my shortcomings in my stated goal? How about my guests? How do YOU feel, and what do YOU think? I am here to listen and to learn. Let's talk it out.

Would you like to Zoom with me for a conversation discussing any of the topics covered in this episode? If you're able to clearly state what you believe in and why, then please message me and let's do it. I want to talk to anybody and everybody, because that is what I can contribute to the healing of our free and open society.

Thank you Juan Carlos and Aaron for your participation in this project.

This is the first in what is hopefully a series of episodes about cults and the people who leave them. Simone is a former Jehovah's Witness. Maybe you, like me, never thought of this group as a "cult," and if that's the case then you should definitely watch this episode. I'll never look at them the same way after hearing Simone's story. She is admirably brave for agreeing to share with me the extremely unacceptable actions that occurred while she was in the cult, and what it was like for her getting out while the rest of her family stays in.

This is more than morbid fascination. I want someone, somewhere to see this episode and realize they can leave whatever messed up situation they're in, whether it's a cult, relationship, or anything else that strikes them as "wrong." Let Simone's strength carry you to the point of exit, which is just the beginning.

This is a very special episode. It was completely unplanned, so I didn't know what I was going to talk about. What came out was a slightly humorous and tangential recollection of 9/11, including an emotional moment as I remember something that happened with my family on that day.

On a personal note, I have big changes coming. The only constant in my life over the past 3 years, besides the people I love, are these podcasts I do. This is a place where I can express my emotions and whatever creativity is in my bones. I don't have a ton of listeners. I don't get a ton of views. I don't make a ton of money doing it. But that's not even remotely what this is about for me. This podcast, The Michael Baston Podcast, is me. It's as unfiltered as I can possibly be, and I will never stop doing it. Rawk.

have you ever smoked your way into a chungus???

Chungus has no beginning. Chungus has no end. Chungus is infinite. Millions of years after our civilization has been eradicated and forgotten, Chungus will endure.

Chungus is eternal. The pinnacle of evolution and existence.

We are but rudimentary creatures of blood and flesh. We touch Chungus' mind, fumbling in ignorance, incapable of understanding.

Organic life is nothing but a genetic mutation, an accident. Our lives are measured in years and decades. We wither and die. Chungus is eternal. Before it, we are nothing.

Chungus imposes order on the chaos of organic life. We exist because Chungus allows it, and we will end because Chungus demands it.

Chungus transcends our very understanding. We cannot grasp the nature of Chungus' existence.

welcome everyone - how are you...

Do ya need a haircut

Are you unemployed

Have you been to an opened restaurant

are you loving quarantine

Do you work better alone

Have you watched at least 3 hours of Netflix each day for most of this past month

Do you wish you were not an essential worker

Are you angry at face masks

Have you felt odd in public while wearing one

Do you have hand soap next to your bathroom sink

Are you regretting the breakup

What are homeless people doing

What happened to communication

Did this shit really get partisan

How many seconds should you wash your hands before the economy recovers

What is the counterweight of agoraphobic pleasure - 3 millions deaths?

Is this how I react under pressure

Were preppers right?

Have hoarders changed their minds

How much longer

Is it kinda over

What do people really want to know

Does mass appeal require a compromise of substance

What does it mean to be fearlessly artistic

Who is paying attention to what?

Hot showers, cold AC, sober for a week Bed, tv, weed, foot hurts

Agoraphobic Pleasure

My guests this week are Luis and Justin from the band Cherry Mantis. We get to know the origins of the band, and then I basically ask them what it's like to play their music. Happy New Year! I wanted to do one more solo episode this year to talk about where I'm at and announce some exciting plans I have coming up. Also I touch on a couple of topics that caught my interest recently. A few days ago was the TWO YEAR ANNIVERSARY of this podcast, so I want to thank everyone who has every listened, watched, or liked in the past 2 years. There's no end in sight! This is a Transmission from the Habitat. Many more to come.

This week I'm joined by the great Quin Reed of Artemis Funk! He's the fourth member of the band I've had on the podcast. Quin has a big part in the music they write, so we talk about that along with some deep dives into video games, Metallica, Rush, Guitar Hero, Entertainmart, the Arlington scene, living next to Pantera's guitar tech, and a LOT more. This was an elevated episode. Dig it!

A lot of you know about an unfortunate situation that came to light this week involving the Arlington music scene. When I first found out I was surprised, and then I was angry. This situation affected both acquaintances and people I'm very close to. I wasn't exactly sure how to respond to all this, so I reached out to Court Hoang to help situate my thoughts. This episode focuses on that specific situation and the issue of sexual violence locally and elsewhere.

I learned a lot this episode about victimhood, believing accusers, accountability, and how to deal with predators among us. I hope this episode can help us cope and come together as a community to make sure this situation never happens again.

The following is the mission statement of The River's Mouth Project. Visit courthoang.com/riversmouth for more information: "The Rivers Mouth Project (RMP) is dedicated to increasing awareness of the realities of sexual violence in our communities; examining the interconnected issues of education, socioeconomics, work culture and rape culture; and dispelling common myths about sexual violence that persist in our way of thinking.” Visit courthoang.com/riversmouth for more information.

Super interesting talk this week in the Habitat with Zoë - first we talk writing, therapy, and hypnosis. A very special guest episode in the Habitat this week as I got to talk with the one and only Becky the Poet from the Unspoken Words podcast.
