In this episode, Renae welcomes back Béa Victoria Albina, author of the new book End Emotional Outsourcing. Béa shares how emotional outsourcing goes way beyond simple “people pleasing”—it’s a nervous system survival skill that gets wired into us early on. Together, they dig into what emotional outsourcing really means, how it shows up in relationships, and why self-trust and somatic healing are key to breaking the cycle.

The conversation covers everything from rumination loops and burnout to consumerism and why shopping won’t fix what’s going on inside. Béa explains why change is possible at any age (yes, even 78!), why it’s not “narcissistic” to want to be seen, and how being direct with others is actually an act of love. If you’ve ever felt stuck in people pleasing, overgiving, or just tired of constantly proving your worth, this episode will shift the way you see yourself.

In this episode, Renae sits down with her husband David to talk about what happens when you and your partner want totally different things out of a weekend. One of you thrives on staying busy, the other is perfectly content lounging at home—and both of you end up a little resentful.

They share how they’ve (imperfectly) navigated these differences, from carving out “me-time” to begrudgingly watching family movie nights, and why compromise, communication, and acceptance matter more than chasing some Instagram-perfect idea of marriage.

If you’ve ever wondered, “Why can’t they just do things my way?”—this one’s for you.

What happens when motherhood doesn’t check every single box? When you love your kid like crazy and still want more for yourself?

In this episode, I get into the messy, complicated truth about feeling unfulfilled in motherhood. The guilt, the judgment, the “shouldn’t this be enough?” soundtrack we all pick up from family, media, and society. I talk about why I don’t believe one role, even motherhood, can (or should) be your whole identity, and why wanting more doesn’t mean you love your child any less.

Motherhood is amazing, hilarious, exhausting—and it doesn’t have to be the only thing that defines you.

This week, I sat down with my friend Katie to talk about the real stuff: comparison traps, GLP-1 drugs, and why we’re all so hooked on the next quick fix. From eating disorders to over-giving in relationships, Katie shares how chasing “skinny” nearly cost her everything — and what actually changed when she stopped outsourcing her worth.

We also get into dopamine addiction, why “what I eat in a day” reels are a mindfuck, and how to finally stop abandoning yourself for the illusion of acceptance. Going out to eat used to be a battlefield. I’d spend days restricting, obsessing over the menu, showing up starving, pretending to have “just a few bites,” then swinging through Taco Bell on the way home to binge in secret.

This week I’m telling the story of how the same exact scenario looks now: ordering what I want, sharing dessert, taking leftovers home, even eating them later that night — without guilt, without secrecy, without the spiral.

This episode isn’t really about a dinner, though. It’s about proof. Proof that freedom is possible. That you can move from panic and control to ease and presence. And that the changes you’ve worked so hard for often show up in the smallest, most ordinary moments — like bread pudding and decaf coffee on a random Saturday night.

Motherhood isn’t diapers, snacks, and never-ending laundry — that’s caregiving. And while caregiving is hard, it’s not the same thing as being a mom.

In this conversation with Hannah Olson, we break down the difference between the two and why this shift in language can lift so much of the guilt and pressure moms feel.

We get into:

  • Why “motherhood is hard” is the wrong phrase (and what to say instead).
  • The trap of becoming a workaholic in caregiving.
  • The breastfeeding/pumping guilt spiral so many of us know too well.
  • Why the relationship you build matters more than the task list you complete.

Whether you’re in the thick of it or still deciding if kids are even for you, this episode is a refreshing take on what motherhood really means.

ABOUT HANNAH:

Hannah loves creating, celebrating, and connecting. She spends her time filming and editing Instagram videos, attempting to master sourdough, forgetting to water $30 IKEA plants, and hanging out with her husband and six kids. She also hosts a (sometimes) weekly podcast, Rantish, where she dives into her strong opinions—from Pretzel Jello Salad and pelvic floor physical therapy to widely-believed motherhood myths. Her hope is to build a sense of connection and belonging for women—especially lonely stay-at-home moms.

This episode isn’t some 5-step plan for finding your passion. It’s a real conversation about what happens when your priorities shift—and you’re not sure if that means you're maturing or just giving up. Renae talks about how having a kid, getting married, and not giving a shit about abs anymore has her rethinking the whole “never settle” narrative.

Is it settling... or is it finally feeling safe? If you’ve ever panicked at the thought of forever or felt guilty for not pushing so hard in every area of life, this one’s for you.

In this raw, reflective episode of The Renae Saager Show, Renae shares the messy truth behind her longest run in nearly a decade—and how it cracked open unexpected clarity about identity, comparison, and self-trust.

What starts as a story about an 8-hour race turns into real talk about the emotional weight of doing life differently: raising a toddler without family nearby, grieving a parent, recovering from disordered eating, staying sober for 16 years, and not always "training for the race"—but still showing up.

She breaks down how easy it is to compare yourself to people who aren’t even in the same damn race, and why two years is the sweet spot for real growth to start taking root—even if it’s messy.

If you’ve ever thought “I should be further along by now,” or looked at someone else and instantly felt behind—this one’s for you.

In this episode, Renae tackles one of the most common (and quietly shame-filled) questions she gets from women: “Why am I snacking nonstop after my toddler goes to bed/at the end of the day?"

t’s not because you “lack discipline.”
It’s because you’re underfed, overextended, and running yourself into the ground, all while trying to stay calm, competent, and invisible.

Renae breaks down the real reasons women find themselves eating after dark, from mental overload to food as the only form of relief. She calls out the low-carb bullshit we’ve all internalized, explains how “just surviving the day” sets us up to binge at night, and gives two clear, doable steps to start breaking the cycle—without needing a new meal plan, a better planner, or a personality transplant.

This one is for the high-functioning, overstretched woman who’s tired of eating her feelings in the dark and ready to do something about it.

In this episode, Renae unpacks the deeper truth behind the question: Should I follow a workout plan? For high-achieving women healing their relationship with food, the instinct to jump into structured exercise is strong, but it’s often coming from anxiety, not alignment.

Renae breaks down why workout plans can actually derail progress in the early stages of recovery, how compulsive planning masks a lack of self-trust, and what it really takes to rebuild a peaceful relationship with movement, food, and your body.

This is an honest conversation for anyone stuck in the cycle of fixing, forcing, and “starting over on Monday."

In this episode of Ditch the Binge, Renae dives into the importance of making clear and specific requests in your daily life. She emphasizes that clarity benefits both you and the person you're communicating with, preventing misunderstandings and frustrations. Renae gives clear examples on how vague instructions often lead to unmet expectations and how this applies to relationships, parenting, and even workplace dynamics.

Key points include:

  1. The Power of Clear Communication: Whether it's asking a child to be quiet or a partner for support, vague requests often result in confusion. Renae shares how being specific eliminates unnecessary stress and improves outcomes.
  2. Neutral Energy Matters: Approaching conversations from a calm, neutral state—what she calls “clean energy”—makes communication more effective and reduces conflict.
  3. Learning Through Practice: Clarity improves over time as you experiment and adjust your approach. Renae encourages embracing the trial-and-error process.
  4. Adaptability in Requests: Needs evolve, and being open to change is essential. Renae reflects on her journey with food and body boundaries, showcasing how requests can be refined as you grow.

When you are around others, it is human nature to compare.

To check in and see what they are doing, how they are doing it, and what they are working towards and then wonder "Am I doing enough? Should I do it that way?"

But then you end up going down their path, not yours.

This is your reminder to stay committed to your own process.

Honor your own timeline.

This week, I had the incredible opportunity to chat with Jayne Matthews—hairstylist, educator, and co-owner of Edo Salon and Gallery. In this compelling episode, Jayne opens up about her 20-year sobriety journey and how growing up poor fueled her relentless work ethic. She shares the behind-the-scenes hustle of growing her business, her continuous quest for dopamine, and the broader challenges she faces today.

As we explore these topics, Jayne holds nothing back and that's precisely why I love this conversation so much.

Enjoy !

Be sure to check out Jayne'sInstagram HERE.

And you can visit her website here and check out those DIY classes we mentioned HERE.

  • About Jayne:

"I didn’t choose hair cutting, it chose me. I was raised by a woodworker and a musician, so I was a poor kid trying to make a fashion statement. I started by cutting my own hair to do just that and happened to be very good at it. I was a hairstylist for 5 years before co-opening Edo Salon and Gallery in 1998.

I draw heavily from the styles of 60’s Paris & 70’s Rock and Roll and specialize in framing faces while embracing natural texture with nothing more than my straight razor. I am currently an international educator teaching advanced cutting techniques to hairstylists and I have been featured in the New York Times, Forbes, and CNN. What originally started as a passion for education has now evolved into new territory."

A lot of people-pleasing talk gets thrown around. Why you do it, how to stop, where it stems from, etc. But there isn't a lot of talk about what the actual cost and repercussions are on yourself.

I'm giving it to you straight because someone needs to.

When you see the cost of what you are doing and how it is actually impacting your happiness and success, a different part of your brain opens up to the idea of change. You see things in a new way. And you do things in a new way.

BARF.

I can't stand hearing about people sell their "impossible and audacious goal setting" classes to you.

I can't stand it not because I am a real stick in the mud but because I think it
1: takes advantage of you
2: doesn't help all THAT much.

There are some pros to thinking big and letting your brain roam, which I cover in this episode. I also share some other ways to set a goal so you don't feel like a failure.

Anyways, I hope you enjoy this epside and I hope you actually HIT your goals this year.

Whether it's more time with family, less time scrolling, more money in the bank, more trips taken, more naps had , or getting another dog.

It's easy, and maybe even the most common path people take, to assume everyone with their own business is racking up the dough, has a line of people dying to pay them, and sleep soundly at night because they choose to follow their passion in life.

Errrr...(record scratch)

Yes, that certainly can happen but if you are a small business owner or have tried to go down your own path - you know the reality of it. Which we hear about in this episode.

But, spoiler alert - It is hard!

Jamie shares her real, raw, and vulnerable story of opening her dream studio and reaching a point (which was anything by easy) and deciding to call it quits.

A story we rarely hear, because honestly who wants to talk about this, but it is important that we do.

Jamie shares the reasons behind closing the doors to her studio, the toll it was taking on her mental health, rebounding with a VERY full summer (and some very long runs), and what she plans to do next.

  • Jamie is the creator of The Flow Collective, and a recovering (aka re(ally)tired) yoga studio owner. She is a 500-Hour E-RYT, 95-Hour RCYT, 85-Hour RPYT, and Master HIIT & Flow Instructor.

She has over 20 years of meditation and yoga practice, and has led numerous teacher trainings, retreats, and events.

She is known for her challenging and creative sequencing, and ability to draw even the most skeptical yogis into yoga. Her style is dynamic and powerful sequences that mix in creative movements with asanas, while cultivating shared awareness.

You may be completely unaware you are doing this because as women especially, we are taught that this is the polite thing to do.

But in reality- all it does is prevent you from getting what and where you want.

And it is the simple act of pushing back on what is being given to you.

Maybe it is a compliment, maybe it is money, maybe it is an opportunity.

Time and time again I see women push away what others want to give them.

In this episode, I talk about why you do that and why this behavior has to change.

You go to school, get the job, and life starts lining up the way it "should".

But what happens when you think about that life for the next 40+ years and it isn't what you want?

You take a leap of faith and go after what you do.

Kylie Antolini, proprietor and founder of Wildwood Candle Co., is an avid trail runner and candle-obsessed connoisseur. Wildwood Candle Co. is the manifestation of her love affair with candle fragrance, trail running, and Forest Park. Inspired to share her love, gratitude, and enthusiasm for the park in a scent-delivered form is how it all came about. The Wildwood trail is her favorite to run on, as it is relatively mild in elevation change, well-maintained, and accessible from many areas of the park. The branded blue diamonds inspire her to keep making progress in running and candle making.

Kylie tells us all about her journey of working full time as a dental hygienist and pouring candles out of a tiny space in her home to eventually quitting her job and going full time into Wildwood Candle Co. Kylie now has her product in many local Portland shops as well as Whole Foods and REI. Kylie tells us all about how her business came to life and all the ups and downs along the way.

Be sure you check out Kylie's candles. They smell SO GOOD!!!
The names of the candles and scents are inspired by her runs in Forest Park.

With scents of "Leif Erikson", "Wild Wood", "Dog Wood" and more you are going to be transported to the best place in Portland, from your own home!

You definitely want one of these burning in your house at all times.

Intuitive eating is something that I think can be really helpful when you are repairing your relationship with food but it certainly isn't the thing that is going to fix everything.

When you come from the world of dieting, you are essentially brainwashed into believing that you NEED a plan to follow.

You couldn't possibly know how to feed yourself.

But all this does is cut off all trust in yourself.

All it does is create even more space between your brain and your body. I am sure you have had days where you are hungry and don't eat or when you are stuffed but can't stop eating.  And if you are like most of us, that has gotten worse over time. It isn't that you can't trust yourself, it is actually the restriction and meal plans leading you to keep that cycle going.

In this episode, I share with you a real-life moment from the weekend where I break down how I view intuitive eating in my own life.

  • When can you focus on weight loss?

Natalie Rose Baldwin is a Brewmaster, dog mom, and friend from Portland that I have constantly been in awe of.

When I met her she was working as a Valet at a hotel and I was working at a job I hated. Not long after I met her, she had left the hotel and started working at a brewery pouring beer. And before I knew it, she was getting printed in magazines and winning awards for her own beers.

I was blown away by how quickly she was excelling in her career!
She followed a less-than-conventional path in life that took off like wildfire.

Did she have some secret knowledge that led her to grow so quickly and rise to the top? That's usually what I think when I see someone blow up in life.
This wasn't the case for Natalie though.

In this episode, Natalie tells us:

  • How she went from working as a valet to being an award-winning brewer.
  • The main reason she kept excelling in her career.
  • Being a woman in a male-dominated field.
  • Managing her anxiety + being awkward.
  • The challenge of leaving a job she loved.

And more...

Natalie is incredibly kind and generous with her knowledge and holds nothing back. She spills all of her behind-the-scenes growth and fears with us in this interview.

I also love Natalie because she is obsessed with her dog, Beef. And I love and trust anyone infatuated with their dog.

Natalie Rose Baldwin, Brewmaster at Wayfinder beer in Portland, Oregon. Worked as Research & Development Brewer at Breakside Brewery from 2017-2023., and has been brewing since 2014. She started in the industry pouring beer and washing kegs, quickly learning to brew at Burnside Brewing in the fall of 2014.

In early 2017 Baldwin was hired as a Production Brewer at Breakside Brewery and later that year was promoted to Breakside's Research and Development Brewer. Natalie's brewing interests vary with a predominant focus on esoteric lagers, saisons, and specialty beers using seasonal flowers, tea, spices, and fruit.

Natalie has won several medals at the Great American Beer Festival and is also a professional Judge at GABF & WBC, works with the Oregon Brewers Guild Diversity and Equity Committee, is a Portland Area Pink Boots Portland Chapter Co-Leader, and was a recipient of a Pink Boots Scholarship in 2018.

You stop second-guessing yourself when you become rock solid on your own choices.
You stop comparing when you know you are doing what you need and want to do.

But do you know why the second-guessing comes up in the first place?
Or why you feel guilty - when you feel guilty?
Or have you ever been in a group of people and they all start talking about their body and suddenly you feel terrible about your own?

You are being brainwashed by other people's insecurities.

Most people aren't aware they are pushing their own ideas and beliefs on you, but really, they can't help it.

You believe a number of things in your life and I'd be you never stop to ask yourself, "Why do I believe this?"

Maybe it is about your relationship, your education, your body, your workout routine, your diet, etc.

In this episode, I share a recent situation that left me second-guessing myself because I was buying into other people's insecurities. I give you several examples that are likely showing up in your own life where you are being brainwashed and completely unaware of it.

Enjoy this week's episode.

IM BACK!!

Hey, guess what? I had a baby!
He was a month and a half early which is why I missed a couple of weeks of releasing episodes - hopefully, you can forgive me. :)

In this episode, I catch you up on what's happened over the last few weeks but also how to deal with life when sh*t hits the fan.

For many many years of my life, I was someone that made a schedule that went down to 15-minute intervals. I knew how I wanted everything to be and look and as long as everything stayed on plan, I was good!

BUT!

Life doesn't care about your plan. Life doesn't care how much time and attention you pour into things, life has its own plans. And if you don't learn how to go with it instead of against it, whether that is your weekend plans, your body, your relationships, your kids, etc- you will feel kinda crazy, irritable, and on edge.

In this episode, I also share about how to keep your goals but loosen the death grip on them so you can actually enjoy the process.

And I have a favor to ask of you. If you have a favorite episode or one you revisit, would you mind telling me what it is?

I am thinking about resharing some of my older podcasts that had a big impact on listeners. If one comes to your mind, even if you can't remember the title, will you send me a message on IG or email me (renae@renaesaager.com) and let me know which one it was?

I would really appreciate it!

As a motivated person that works hard and has probably been told you have a strong work ethic your entire life - this episode may break your brain a little.

Because what I am suggesting in here may actually be your biggest fear and what you have avoided for as long as you can remember.

If you find yourself triggered by what I am saying, good. Listen to this episode again in a week.

If you find yourself feeling relieved by what I am saying, EXCELLENT! Follow that thread and trust it!

You have been told to work harder, your rigorous, push through no matter what mentality has been applauded, and your ways of being "so accommodating" which was just you agreeing with someone else then taking the frustration out on yourself later were enjoyed by many - until now.

We are letting go of all of that.

How often do you talk yourself OUT OF doing something amazing because it seems like too much work or just doesn't make sense?

That's a very reasonable and logical approach but the things you are talking yourself out of may just be the ticket to every single thing you want.

Some of the best experiences in your life will not add up.

Some of the best memories you make will be created by accident.

In this episode, I share more about the true cost of fun and what it takes to do cool shit in your life. But more importantly, why we must stop trying to make it all make sense and just do the damn thing.

"How exactly do you get ballsy in your biz and over the fear of being seen?"

That was a question I got a couple of weeks ago and decided to dedicate a whole episode to this topic.

If you aren't a biz owner, replace business with --> work, relationships, in the office, with my partner, etc.
It's all very similar.

What the fear boils down to in almost all of us is "the fear of rejection" or being left.

But is being left worse or is never fully showing the hell up for yourself worse???

I give you some strategies to try in this episode to help you get over the fear of being seen and start showing up with bigger balls in your biz.

I also mentioned a limited-time offer I am doing.

Diet culture dropout, Onyx Sweat Society co-founder, community creator, and hype wrangler.

Wait- A gym that ISN'T weightloss focused or aesthetically obsessed?

THAT'S RIGHT!

I'm with Ashley Liberty on the podcast and we chat all about the process to her opening a business, realizing weightloss/nutrition/ body transformation "stuff" was not her jam (and fears around letting that go), and finding her own lane in the fitness industry - and a small town to boot.

Ashley Liberty is the co-founder and CEO of Onyx Sweat Society, a fitness brand focused on community and empowerment.

Once addicted to an unhealthy relationship with exercise and body dysmorphia, Ashley found recovery and became obsessed with helping others do the same by creating a movement experience that felt different than any traditional gym or class she’d been to before, by focusing solely on how the classes make them FEEL, to build strength from within.

Aside from running her biz, she enjoys building a life with her husband and raising their two children and one fur-child in the PNW.

Ashley is a real delight and I am excited to share her, her message, and her community with you.

Self-trust is something I talk about a lot with my clients.

Without it, you are forever wondering if you are doing enough, doing it right, or if so and so really likes you.

You become indecisive and ultimately drive yourself insane.

Buckle up my Broads because I am not holding back on this one.

"Does ANYONE else do this? Am I the only client you have had that has said this? Is change even possible at this point?"

If you have ever had those thoughts, fears, or questions, get into this episode immediately.

The idea that "people never change" is such BS.

You can always change.

Any age, any point in life, no matter how long you have been doing something.

But the most critical piece is:
1: That you actually WANT to change.
2: What I discuss in this episode.

So get in there and take a listen!

I also talked about Wrecking Ball- my private coaching program - is accepting new clients.

If you've been listening for a while, or even if you are new here, and you are at that tipping point of wanting to change how you show up to your life and biz. If I had to guess, right now you are pretty darn good at NOT listening to what you need and pushing through with a "no matter what" mentality.

A lot to this, "no matter what" way of being is glorified.

You don't eat when you are hungry.
You eat when you are full.
You push through when you are exhausted.
You shove it down when you are frustrated.

But what happens over time, is all of that energy, anger, etc has to come out someway, and it is usually on yourself OR you react in a way you are later ashamed of.

In this episode, I talk about the discomfort threshold and how to recalibrate your own.

I am accepting new clients for September. If you would like to work together or learn more about what that could look like, FILL OUT THIS FORM.

I had been following Kat for a while on IG and adored her profiles and message but it was when she made a post talking about the struggles she had overcome on her journey to where she is now that really pushed me over the edge to loving her.

I love seeing someone make it...AND...I love hearing about the setbacks and struggles along the way. Kat shares what her process was like overcoming self-loathing, self-harm, and disordered eating to ultimately falling in love with herself, her life, and creating an incredible business.

Kat is the founder and editor of Rock n Roll Bride magazine and Amazon #1 bestselling author of Rock n Roll Bride: The Ultimate Guide for Alternative Brides. Kat takes us through her journey from self-loathing to self-loving, body image, and building a business she adores.

Kat is passionate about inclusivity, using her platform to show that all kinds of people get married and deserve love and respect. Through her podcast, The Confidence Club ( which she mentioned has been on a hiatus) and small business mentoring programme, she encourages her audience to embrace their own unique selves and to look for the good in the world, especially in dark or uncertain times.

Do you ever have days where your brain says, " You COULD do more," or "You COULD push yourself harder", but your body says something else?

Most likely yes.

And this is because you have probably very rarely taken what your body needs into consideration. You have been all up in your head, literally shoving down (with food) everything your body is asking for.

In this episode, I discuss this and how to begin getting that conversation more balanced instead of just one way.

Continuing on my little spree of self-trust, this week let's talk about how the role of self-acceptance and body acceptance is a critical piece of this equation.

How often have you looked in the mirror and thought, "I should look different."

Every time you have a should come out of your mouth you are pushing yourself further away from self-trust.

Where does this "should" even come from?

Do you know?

Or is it just something that you believe makes you a more important member of society if you have it?

Here you are, doing all this work to become a better human.

Investing in coaching and courses, changing your old habits, believing new things about yourself, doing some of the hardest work on yourself that you've ever done, and BAM..." I liked you better before", or "I don't know why you're doing all of this," and "I don't get it. I don't get you."

You are kicked in the crotch with confusion, dissatisfaction, and dislike by some of your closest friends and peers,

Well, babycakes, I gotta tell ya something you might not like to hear...but that is sort of the price of admission for doing things differently. Behaving differently. Carrying yourself differently. Or looking differently.

If this is you- if you've been in a phase of glowing up, showing up, and living it up, and others around you aren't as onboard as you would have hoped, plug this episode into your earholes STAT.

I took a poll on IG and FB and asked what you wanted to hear about on the podcast and self-trust and how to stop caring what other people think were the majority of your answers, so here we go!

In this week's episode, I share with you several specific steps you can take to stop caring what everyone else thinks and the golden thread that pulls it all together.

I also mentioned my hybrid group coaching program- Ballsy Broads.

I’m helping a small group of ambitious women end their own self-sabotage tendencies and show up to their life with more confidence in their voice, and more certainty in their actions.

At the end of these 5 months will have measurable growth in how much your self-confidence and trust have changed.

This might look like:

*simply showing up to social situations

*knowing what you are doing is enough

*learning to course correct when shit hits the fan without shutting down

*handling emotions in a way you feel good about

*trusting the choices you make

*laying your head down at night and feeling proud of yourself

To learn more, check out THIS PAGE or book a Ballsy Broads consult call with me HERE.

Hey!

I wanted to make sure you, my loyal podcast listener, got info on my next round on Ballsy Broads.

"Ballsy Broads?? What is it??"
SO GLAD YOU ASKED!!

Ballsy Broads is the space and the place for high achievers to stop tip-toeing around in their life and start confidently owning who they are and what they want. (And feel as confident as your internet friends and peers think you are.)

By the end of this group, you will feel more comfortable in your skin, more confident in your voice, and doing and asking for what you want is a no-brainer.

If you struggle with emotional eating- you know like, cramming a few candy bars in your mouth at 3 pm to get an ounce of relief from the compounding energy of work stress or inhaling a bag of chips and a couple of glasses of wine at 8 pm only to wake up at 6 am bloated and exhausted.

Or overthinking EVERY. SINGLE. THING. - "What if it doesn't worry? What if they don't like me? What do they really think of me?" Leaving you acting not at all like yourself and certainly not showing up as the bad b*tch that you know you are.

Or people-pleasing--- AKA saying yes to things you hate doing, caving on a request when you told yourself you wouldn't, skipping your workout because you have to do something for someone else, never pampering yourself but going above and beyond for others- then you DEFINITELY need to be in here because it is YOUR time to start getting, doing, and owning what you want.

You may be a delightful mix of all 3 and that is even better! We will take care of it all.

You can read more about this group HERE and a link for the Ballsy Broads Discovery Call is on the page or you can grab that HERE.

A reminder that there is an early bird price until Friday!

Be sure to connect with me on IG HERE.

"I just thought starving yourself and then binge eating was normal. I thought it was what everyone did to stay thin...I now get to enjoy time with my family and around food. I can actually relax around both." - Laura P.

When Laura reached out to me she hadn't really been aware of the extent of her food and body stuff. But within a month or two of working together, it became very apparent how much all of that noise saturated every area of her life.

Since our work together she has developed a better relationship with friends and family, showing up for herself with more confidence and consistency, but most of all has created a level of deep self-trust within herself.

Laura shares with us how it is never too late to change and why she now believes she is stepping into one of the best chapters of her life. Free of food and body noise and full of confidence in who she is and what she wants.

This week I talk to Jackie about self-acceptance, body image, and wearing the damn swimsuit!

Jackie shares with us how she grew up a swimmer but as she got a little older she started feeling less confident in her body and less eager to "suit up" and show up. But there was something she noticed even more than her own dissatisfaction in her skin and that was hearing other women talk about the discomfort in their bodies.

Jackie had seen and heard enough and decided to do something about it.

And that something was the "Be Your Own SwimQueen".

The Be Your Own SwimQueen community was created to change the way women feel about themselves in a swimsuit. This community allows women to breathe without fear of judgment in a trusting, loving, and inspiring space. It offers authentic support, love, and inspiration. The Be Your Own SwimQueen Community encourages women to feel confident and wear the swimsuit today - like a Queen.

But! It may actually have less of a pleasing effect on others than you think.

I talk about the difference between people-pleasing energy and self-sufficient energy and why you may want to rethink all that worrying about others.

Feeling tired.
Feeling bloated and blah.

While we don't love 'em, they happen!

Feeling like you can barely muster the energy up to peel yourself off the couch, let alone get a 45 min spin class in.
Knowing you had these same pants on 2 days ago but today they make you want to curl up in a ball and cry.
Or not even know what's going on- you just feel "off".

We have all experienced it.

But how are we supposed to survive these days??!

How I see most people handle these situations and emotions is by applying more force.

By pushing harder.
Drinking more caffeine.
Eating all the sugar.
Beating themselves.
Telling themselves to just "get it together!"

And what this really does is perpetuate the cycle of binge eating and overworking yourself.

In this episode, I am giving you 3 tips to make it through your not-so-great days with a little more ease.

"Can I heal my relationship with food while also trying to lose weight?"
This is a question I get frequently and I know I had the same one.
I also thought, "Once I stop binge eating THEN I can really focus on weight loss."

But the thing is, once you stop binge eating, once you change your relationship to food and body, how you view weight loss completely changes. Which is great news right?
Because for so many, your attempts at weight loss and food freedom were not working.

My amazing client, Jen, is on the podcast today to share her experience in working together.

Jen talks about how her competitive nature left her believing if she wasn't struggling or fighting in some way that she wasn't doing it right. In this conversation, Jen shares the ways she tried managing her food in the past, getting into a fitness competition, finally reaching her breaking point, and how much this work impacted her confidence and her life outside of food.

"When I started with her I just wanted to be able to eat pizza without panic, to stop thinking about food all day, and to stop caring so much about what everyone else thought! I got all of that and so much more. I can’t believe how different I feel from 6 months ago. I used to walk around with so much constant shame and my shoulders hunched over. I no longer do that. My entire energy has shifted. I walk, talk, and exist with more confidence. My relationships are better. I look in the mirror and think, “Look at that booty!” It has rippled out to my relationships at work, with family, and with my boyfriend. It's foreign and I am loving it! It’s like I walked out one door and into another. "

Right about now, or maybe a few days ago, you've likely started to see all the weight loss programs, plans, and supplements promising to change your life.

Maybe your friends are telling you about their juice detox, their no sugar shenanigans, the new workout routine, or any other number of regimented and structured plans they are starting.

Setting a resolution isn't a bad thing. The New Year can be an excellent time to reassess your life and what you like, what's going well, and what you want to change. But what typically happens is you come off the heels of the holidays after having consumed all the food, doing little to no exercise, and being out of your typical routine. Then, you naturally reach to something extreme because "I can't keep doing this!! I have to get back on track!". Only to be beating yourself up 2 weeks later, wondering why it didn't work.

In this episode, I talk about rest, and why you need it more now than ever, the importance of finding and keeping your own routine, and how to check in with yourself to see if the resolution you are creating will last.

I also mentioned a new group I am running at the end of this month.
This going is for women who:
Is tired of walking on eggshells in her own life.
Wants to show the hell up for herself, without guilt.
Is motivated and driven to do more but finds herself sabotaging her own success with eating, drinking, overthinking, or just general worry.

If you've been needing a kick in the ass. You are a woman who wants more of that Big D*ck Energy in all that you do, get in on this group.

This episode is piggybacking on last week's episode, and we are spending more time on the food aspect around owning your crazy.

Secret eating is something you do when you think you're doing something wrong.
That you shouldn't still be hungry, you shouldn't want so much of an item or to eat any of it at all.

Secret eating can often lead to binge eating or at the very least it solidifies the idea you hold that what you are doing is wrong. But ultimately, it keeps you trapped in an exhausting relationship with food- the opposite of what you want.

Stop eating in secret and start eating for all to see.

You know when you see someone biff it in public but then they try and play it off as if no one saw but we all know EVERYONE saw and it just makes it all that more uncomfortable? This is what it’s like when you try and cover your crazy, you really just amplify it.

The "manual" is the idea that we all have a set of rules and expectations for other people to follow (aka the manual).

You probably have one for your partner, your parents, coworkers, and people you see in passing.

When you think someone is being rude it is often because they aren't following the manual you have for how they "should" act.
When it's your birthday and your best friend doesn't call you, you are upset because in your manual for her, that is what she should do.
When you are driving and some dick wad cuts you off, you are angry because they shouldn't drive like that- according to your manual.
And so on.

The manual you have for others can lead to a lot of suffering in yourself because those other people are living by a different set of rules, that they think are the best!
They don't have the same manual for themselves that you have for them.

In this episode, I share more about the manual but more specifically about the one you have for your body. I hope you enjoy it!

Over the weekend two bigger names in the online space shared posts about letting go of dieting. These two women were Tabitha Brown and Diane San Filippo. Diane's very raw and real post in particular gave me goosebumps. I kept jumping back to her profile to see the comments HUNDREDS of women were leaving about their own experience with food and body. Countless women asking her questions about her experience- the same thing for Tabitha. In fact, her post was shared in a private Facebook group I am a part of as well by some member that I do not know.

All of this was telling me, "This is big. This is important. And I need to let more people know these women are talking about it."

Why? Because dieting and hating your body is the dominant way of existing in our culture. If you hate your body or wish your stomach were smaller or arms were more firm, no one bats an eye. In fact, you will probably have whoever is near you say something in agreement like. "ugh! I know! I hate my ______."

But when you hear a woman say, "I don't want to lose weight. I love my body. I think my legs are sexy as hell." You're confused. You may even think she is full of herself. How messed up is that?
To hear someone think highly of herself is shocking and to hear someone tear herself apart is somehow comforting.

So many women are killing themselves to look like women who hate how they look.

In this episode, I am talking about this all in more depth and detail.
Please do me a favor and share this episode. Share Diane and Tabitha's posts. Because we need more of this. We need more women admitting they struggle, more women admitting they want to love their body no matter what, and more women leading the way.
We need each other.

Lucy Bartholomew lives in Melbourne Australia and runs professionally for Salomon Running.

In the first half of this episode, Lucy talks about how and why she got into running ultras at the age of 15, the mental and physical repercussions she faced after finishing 3rd at Western States, and her feedback on what she would have done differently- which I was slightly taken aback by.

In the second half of the interview, Lucy and I talk about how running and social media have greatly impacted her body image, how she handles that,  and why her entire life isn't "just" running.

Lucy is multi-passionate, rediculously nice, and a truly admirable and inspiring human.

BONUS EPISODE!

I am dropping a bonus episode with my amazing client, Shannon.

Shannon talks about her history with food and body and previous attempts at controlling each (the different diets and plans or just not eating) which all ultimately left her feeling defeated.

In our work together we uncovered a big underlying belief that she kept recycling through her mind which was ultimately keeping her stuck in many areas other than just food, because how we do one thing is how we do everything.

Shannon shares about the one comment I said to her during a session that completely flipped how she viewed her food and her progress in life.

This episode is full of so many amazing takeaways from Shannon that I know you are going to feel on a deep level. Hearing how she has been able to create trust with her, truly like who she is, and be living free of food obsession is certain to inspire you.

Enjoy!

If you do not know who Kelly Roberts is yet, you are in for a REAL TREAT! She's weird, hilarious, and no longer living life hating her body. We chat about fitness, body image, being praised for weight loss, running in just a bra aaaaand more.

You're gonna love this one!

More about Kelly:

Kelly Roberts’ pre-BadAssLadyGang fitness routine consisted mostly of struggling through the elliptical and trying to shrink her body. It wasn’t until hitting post-college life, poised with a theatre degree, student loans, and the onset of panic, that she found running. Running forced Kelly to ditch perfectionism and stomp out fear of failure. Viral selfies from her first marathon struck a chord with women who could relate to the struggle, and soon the Badass Lady Gang was born.

BALG is about enjoying life with a side of running. Kelly’s philosophy measures success by the confidence gained, not pounds lost. If you aren’t having fun, it’s time to pivot. Over the years Kelly has appeared on the cover of Women’s Running Magazine, joined Nike at the Women’s World Cup, and created a worldwide movement called the Sports Bra Squad. She lives in Brooklyn, New York.

There are several ways to connect with Kelly. The best is just hopping over to her website, it has all the info you need. Go HERE.

She has an amazing podcast RUN SELFIE REPEAT and POISON PUNCH . The second one is the most active one, but I suggest you check out both- as there is a ton of information and entertainment on each!

This episode is slightly different.

I celebrated 12 years of sobriety on 7-25-09 and I wanted to talk to you about that a bit.

In this episode, I share with you what getting into recovery looked like, surviving the early days, and some of my biggest fears.

I also talk about doing what feels impossible.

Getting sober, having a "normal" relationship with food, starting a business, all of it felt horrifying in the beginning. I had no idea what to do. I heard and saw others doing it but for me, it just felt like it could never happen.

"Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me."

You have probably heard that before, right?

Sure, words don't physically hurt you in the way a stone might but they can still create the feeling of being hurt, sometimes worse than having a stone thrown at you!

Maybe it is an under-the-breath comment from a co-worker, a text from a friend, or direct feedback from your partner, they can feel like a kick to the gut.

But why?
What about the words makes them so painful?

How can you actually begin to use these words and comments for yourself instead of shutting down and using them against you?

I am breaking it all down in this episode.

In this episode, I interview my amazing client Katie.
Katie and I have been working together for about 5 months in a group setting.

Before we started,  she wasn't really aware she was an emotional eater but new eating brought her happiness so she just kept doing it. But over time she began to feel like she had less of a choice and had to eat over emotions - food was controlling more of her life than she wanted.

In this episode, I share how losing my mom was my catalyst for change.
Change with my food and change with the direction my life was going.

For years I lived in the "If it doesn't hurt, I must not be doing it right" mentality.
I always chose harder over hard.
And I see this come up with a lot of my clients too.

This idea that whatever they want to do must be wrong.
There is no way they could possibly be enough right now.

And while you MAY be able to make progress with that approach, it is going to be exhausting and painful.

I share with you what I believe truly fuels change and how to create that energy in yourself.

In this episode, I am covering...
1. Self-trust and how to have more of it.
2. Your thoughts about you.
3. Why not you?

If you are a wildly capable woman who is tired of quitting on herself, listen up.
You know there is a part of you that is completely untapped. You see others #glowup around you and think, "I could never do that." OR "Who am 'I' to try and do that?"

But you know what you really need to be asking is, "Who the fuck are THEY!?"

Owning who you are is a rebellious act. Showing up in full force and dropping the fear about what they might think or say when you aren't around can be terrifying.
I'll give you that.
But the real question is... what are you losing by not?

Ok ok, lets clear this one up.

This is a topic that has come up several times over the last couple of weeks.
Something I will often tell women is, "Whatever you do with your food is fine." or "Whatever happens with your food is fine".

And what this can get misinterpreted as, "All food is exactly the same and even if all you eat it donuts and ice cream it is fine because whatever you do with your food is fine."

I mean, ya kinda, but also, not really.

In this episode, I break down exactly what I mean by "food has no morality" and why you need to adapt this view of food if you too can't stop eating m&m's or ice cream outta the tub.

My client, Elysse, felt the impact of Covid in the workplace, at home, and noticed it directly impacted her relationship with food and her body. After feeling like I was speaking directly to her in my messages for months she couldn’t take the stress and anxiety another day and finally reached out. She knew restriction and another crash diet wasn’t the answer but didn’t really know what else to do.  As an athlete, she had an additional layer of confusion and frustration because she believed continually pushing yourself,  tracking food, and following a ridged nutrition program was the "right" thing to do.

“I got to the point where food was occupying SO much of my brain space! I was not feeling at home in my body at all and I was worried.”

Elysse dishes it all out in this episode.

The biggest fear she had about reaching out to me and what she thought it meant about her, how this work tied into every area of her life(from wedding planning to work), not really believing me in the beginning, and how she is now connected to herself and her intuition more than ever before.

From skeptical and unsure to confident and free.

THE most important relationship you will ever have.
However, you forget that.
When you are working on your goals, wanting better, to do more, feel happier, you forget about you.
You forget that your brain and your body are on the same team.
You try and reach your goals with more pressure, more rules, more hate,  pushing through the discomfort, and showing up no matter what.

Then you wonder why you feel awful. Why you are exhausted. Why your body isn't responding the way you thought. Why what you want isn't happening or if it is, why you still feel horrible despite achieving the thing that was supposed to solve it all.

In this episode, I talk about the relationship with YOU.

I see countless women trying to achieve their goals through hating themselves.
Trying to hate themselves thin and wonder why their body isn't shrinking.
Trying to hate themselves happy and wonder why they feel so stressed.
Trying to hate themselves successful and wonder why they are so exhausted.

You are on your team.
You should be your biggest fan!

And if you aren't, listen to this episode.

If every day feels like a struggle and takes so much focus and determination, I've got news for you sister, it is time to let it be easy!

There is this belief out there that, "If I am not struggling, I must not be trying hard enough."

GROSS. EW. NO.

Especially around food.

I mean SHEESH!!!
Life is hard enough, amiright?
Can't deciding what we want to eat and when to stop eating be the ONE thing we get a pass for? The one thing that is just a piece of cake- if you will ;)

I believe that eating should be easy.
I also believe that many of you out there have that same mindset of "no pain, no gain."
Not just around food but just existing as the human that you are.

Let me tell you, there is a WHOLE middle land between pushing yourself every single day, wearing yourself out, and fighting to live, and giving up on life, eating Ben and Jerry's on the couch wrapped up in your cozy robe not remembering the last time you showered.

*but really....that doesn't sound too bad.

Listen to this week's episode as I share with you, and remind you, that you aren't as messed up as you think.
It is time to let it be easy.

When I stumbled upon Lu on Instagram and immediately knew I had found someone that I needed more of. I combed through her social media for a couple of weeks then knew she needed to be on the podcast so I could get you all in touch with her as well.

Lu is a sustainable fashion activist, lover of fun and life, Vibrator Advocate, and reckless optimist! Lu is growing old disgracefully and making middle age look fucking good.

We talk about a magical moment she had with her vagina that changed everything, hating the first couple of years of motherhood, not shopping or buy anything for a year,  from social work to becoming a stylist, the process of aging,  and pretty much everything in between. This is an unfiltered, raw conversation that I know you are going to love.

You don't love it, honestly, you don't even enjoy it anymore, but, you say yes, sign up, do the thing, fall into the role because it is expected of you or you think it's what you "should" do.

Do you ever ask yourself, "do I WANT to do this?"

Do I WANT to sign up for this project?
Volunteer at this event?
Eat that thing?
Take on another task?
Keep that relationship?

If you want things in your life you don't yet have, if you are working on improving your life in some way, YOU have to things differently.

This doesn't mean you have to completely blow up your entire life. (unless you want to- sometimes that can be fun!)
It could be as simple as saying NO.
Saying no to things that are no longer in alignment with the life you want or the person you want to become.

In this episode, I talk about quitting so you can start getting what you actually want.

GET READY LADIES, THIS ONE IS FOR YOU!

Lillian established STYLE THERAPY in 2011 as a way to help women remove physical, emotional, and mental barriers that keep them from living fully expressed lives.

Lillian is certified in neurolinguistics programming, hypnosis, tapping, TIME techniques, and goal setting in combination with intuitive styling and reiki energy healing. Lillian holds a BA in Women’s Studies and French from Agnes Scott College is a Lululemon ambassador and full-time cheerleader of badass women stepping into their power.

Oh yea, she was also named #1 for closet edits in 2020 by Atlanta Magazine. And she is super funny and very sweet!

Lillian is the FULL PACKAGE DEAL!

I was so excited to have Lillian on the show because I love her approach to helping women feel hot AF in their clothes, which ISN'T “just get as skinny as possible and make your body fit your jeans.”

She is all about helping you understand your own shape, size, colors and styles so you can feel like a million bucks and in your prime every single day you get dressed!

In our conversation, we discuss how she got into this line of work, her experience with meditation and slowing down even though her mindset was much more of a “no pain, no gain” mentality. Lillian shares exactly how she works with women to help them feel incredible in all of their outfits and some of the biggest mistakes she sees women make when picking clothes (like just not buying the right size!)

Lillian is a true gem and I am so excited for you to learn from her as well. Just following her on Instagram has given me a whole new perspective when I am getting dressed in the morning.

I truly believe every one of you knows exactly what you want and how you want to be but you have years of expectations, rules, and should's piling up in your mind, keeping you stuck in a state of existence that is no longer serving you or in alignment with how you want to live.

In this podcast, I am going to take you through a different way of approaching the new year and some specific questions to help you be more YOU.

I had the great privilege of interviewing my now previous coaching client Jamie.

I LOVE these conversations because before I interview any previous client(or current) I look back over all of their notes and read through their wins, setbacks, and see where they are today.

Jamie came to me hoping I would teach her how to successfully diet! ha!
Her words, not mine!
She even had us book our call on Thursdays because that's usually when "she lost all control".
Within a couple of months, Jamie said, "the food was really a nonissue in my life."

In this episode, Jamie shares how after the first call she thought, "I don't think this is what I signed up for!" what shifted and how after 2 months her food was a non-issue.
She talks about the fear she had around starting this work, what the process was really like for her, and the other areas of her life that have benefitted now that she isn't consumed by food and weight.

I had the privilege of having an hour plus long chat with the amazing human that is Jenny Schatzel.

She is an author, speaker, biz owner, fitness instructor, and mother of twins, to name just a few of the hats she wears.

She battled alcoholism, binge eating and suffered from “not-enoughness” for decades until she decided to "change the conversation". She has now made it her mission to help other women change the conversation about their bodies, self-worth, and movement.

She recently released her book titled "Breaking The Cycle- Free Yourself from the Story That's Holding You Back", which I highly suggest you purchase!

"As a wellness and lifestyle guide who helps people feel good about themselves, Jenny Schatzle doesn’t change bodies, she changes lives. Her passion is empowering people to accept themselves, respect themselves, and love themselves in every aspect of their lives. Jenny has created a movement that challenges the way people see themselves. Her program is as much about health and wellness as it is about positivity, self-love, and letting go of the behaviors and negative thinking that stop us and limit our success."

Enjoy this week's episode as we have a very honest and open conversation about the double life she led with food and booze, thoughts about the diet industry and fitness industry, real talk about juggling life as a mother to twin girls so much more!

Jenny is a powerhouse that you need in your life and on your side.

I took a couple of weeks off from the podcast but I am back!

At the beginning of the episode, I discuss Gretchen Rubins quiz on "The 4 Tendencies". If you are a quiz lover like myself and would like to know what tendency YOU have, take the quiz HERE. Let me know what you get and if you were surprised by it.

When women come to me they have tried almost every plan, program, or a new way of rearranging their food on the planet. And yet, time after time, you bang your head against the wall thinking, ‘WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME!?”

It feels like you are working against yourself, and truthfully, you are.

I personally used to think the only way I could eat like a normal person is if I had a lobotomy or was locked up in a prison cell and someone slid it through the little slot.

Before you schedule a dr appt for that lobotomy, please listen to this episode!

You don’t need major surgery or to commit a crime to have an easy and enjoyable relationship with food. I'd even go as far as to say that it is much much closer than you think.

In this week's episode, I am going to explain why those plans never work and what you need to do next.

If you want to learn more about coaching and how I can help you live freely around food and confidently in your body, book your consult call HERE.

In today's episode, I interview my client Kate. She shares her story with food and weight, why she decided to work with me, what that was like, and how her life is different today.

I hope you find this interview as inspiring as I did.

From Kate:

"Growing up I went on every single diet. By 10 or 11 years old I was aware of what calories were and already thought fat was bad.

When we started working together I was actually tracking macros, weighing myself obsessively and chicken, broccoli and cottage cheese were really my only “safe foods”. I felt like I was on a merry go round I couldn’t get off of.

Now, from working with you, I can be in the same house with peanut butter and ice cream. I can eat bagels and not have to starve myself for the rest of the day. Or, I can have a salad because it sounds good!

I thought I had tried everything, I had been in therapy and tried all the diets, but I hadn’t. This DOES work.

I now see food as 'just food'.

This all has been so much more than I ever thought.
I am more relaxed, confident in who I am, and can have an actual connection with other people.

Just start. Connect with Renae. Schedule that initial conversation. "

Kate has been incredible to work with and her results really aren't surprising to me at all. This is just what you can expect when we work together.

TL:DR (too long don't read)
This episode is going to discuss the not so obvious ways we diet.

Diets used to be pretty obvious.

The Grapefruit Diet.
The Cabbage Soup Diet.
The Atkins Diet.
South Beach Diet.
The Zone Diet.
And on and on and on....

In 2019 the diet industry was at a record high of make 72 BILLION dollars.
It was stated that there has been a slight decline in their net worth in 2020 due to body acceptance and body positivity.

Do you know what that really means though??
Programs are starting to rebrand.

I recently took a copywriting course and one of the keywords she said to be sure NOT to use in your copy is "DIET".

Why?
Because we are catching on and the diet industry, and people pushing it, know this.

Let me clarify, you are not bad or wrong for wanting to lose weight. You don't need to feel ashamed or guilty about this.
And truly, it isn't surprising!
I mean, seriously, just take a look at any magazine.
Watch any show or movie. Look at book covers.
There is very clearly an acceptable/right way to look.

But back to dieting.....so diet companies, coaches, programs etc. are seeing that women now know "diets don't work" so...they rebrand.

They repackage their offer in a way that will seduce you without using the word diet.

But dieting isn't just a program or plan.
At its core, a diet is a way of thinking about your food.
It is when we are emotionally attached to how we eat. There is a right and wrong way. Good and bad.
Enough and TOO much.

And all of this is a very long-winded way to say, this episode is going to discuss the not so obvious ways we diet and why it is important to catch within yourself.

Interested in working together?
Message me on either of these to see if I am accepting clients and what the next steps to take would be.

Poor body image days.

Here's the truth, no one escapes bad body image days.
Men, women, young, old, rich, poor,  it doesn't matter.

We are sold the idea by the diet industry that once we get on this new plan it will literally make our entire life perfect.

Once we just lose weight every problem we ever had will be solved permanently.
Riiiiiiight....

In this episode, I am going to share with you real insight into what to expect when ending binge eating and doing body image work and how to navigate these days with less pain and without a full-on relapse.

falltreatchallenge is happening NOW!

I break down what it is and how to participate in the episode.
You must enter before November 5th. Be sure to tag me and I might read your post next week on the pod.

Also- healthy eating.

"I feel like I need to tell people I know that I know I shouldn't eat like this all the time. That I know this isn't healthy or ok and that it isn't a daily thing."

This comment was shared with me and I am so glad it was because this highlighted 2 things.

  1. How big of a deal our society puts on eating sweets.
  2. Where her next layer of work is.

You don't have to earn anything you eat. Period.
You don't have to explain it either.
If you wanted, you could eat 3 cookies a day for the next 5 months and it is no ones damn business but your own.

A big part of the fall treat challenge is to help you OWN what you eat. To really ENJOY it! To take the power away from food in a way.

We are so terrified of eating but what that actually does is drive us to food faster. For many of you, it is your attempt at eating healthy that leads you to binge. That is because you have such a strict or "right" way of eating and living it would be damn near impossible to perfectly adhere to.

In this episode, I give you permission to eat the damn cookie and stop explaining yourself.

Enjoy!

Be sure to share your pic and caption by Nov 5th to be entered in my #falltreatchallenge

“I was never good enough because I was never thin enough.”

In today's episode, I had the pleasure of interviewing Kristina Bruce.

Kristina is a Certified Body Trust®  Provider and Integrative Life Coach and specializes in helping people break free from diet cycling and negative body image.

In our interview, she shares her personal story of her own war with food and body.

She discusses how once she had gotten her 'goal body' she actually felt worse and more anxious than ever.

She shares how it was in her romantic relationship that really highlighted just how disordered her relationship to food and exercise really was.

Kristina takes us through her rock bottom moment with food and how she ultimately got free and her path to where she is today.

Kristina is such a wonderful human and I absolutely loved this interview.

Take a listen and please share as I know so many can benefit from hearing her story.

I took a little poll on social media and asked my people,
"What is something you tell yourself that you should be more or less of?"

Here are just a few of the responses:

I shouldn't laugh so loud.
I shouldn't be so blunt.
I should be more outgoing.
I need to play more and work less.
I should be more joyful.
I shouldn't be so bossy.
I should be more patient.

A stream of consciousness running through our brain telling us ALLLLL the ways we just aren't quite good enough.

I don't think we ever reach a point where we are just done improving.

Every year we become someone new.
Every month we learn more about ourselves and our likes and dislikes than we knew last month.

But the problem is:
1: You think you are less than because you have these flaws.
2: You are trying to hate and shame yourself into change.

Who are we even getting these messages from? Because I had very contradictory responses in my poll.
I should be more playful.
I should be more serious.
I should be more outgoing.
I should work harder.

YOU get to make the rules.
And what I see time and time again is when women drop the agenda of how they SHOULD be living, they can actually start living.
Does that mean some friends may fall off? Sure!
But you want people who want the REAL you.
Who appreciates and loves the 'you' that is a work in progress.

You don't have to change a damn thing!
So today, please, be more YOU.

Come join me over on social media.

Did you know :

  • Nearly 50 percent of people with an eating disorder are also abusing drugs and/or alcohol

  • Research suggests that 25 percent of people entering treatment for an eating disorder also meet the criteria for substance abuse problems

  • Substance abuse by people with eating disorders occurs at a rate five times greater than what is found in the general population.

While I fully back Alcoholics Anonymous, I have a very different opinion on 12 step meetings for food.

In this episode, I look at the differences between being in recovery from alcohol or drugs and how it differs from that of food.

I also discuss why the 12 step programs tend to fail most people when trying to stop binge eating and often exacerbate their food issues.

If you are sober I think you will get a lot from this episode because I know for me personally, for years I felt crazy because I was able to get sober relatively easy but the food thing was an entirely different beast.

Even if you aren't sober, this episode is sure to open your eyes to some new perspectives and thoughts around food and why previous diets have not worked for you.

“Can I track my macros AND practice intuitive eating?”

This is a question I was recently asked and I decided to do a podcast on my answer.

Macros are everywhere now.
It claims to be a way of eating that allows you to eat whatever you want and isn’t “a diet.”

I decided to include fitness trackers into this episode because really, they are quite similar.

I was recently reading an article and it went over the top diet trends from today, which are Keto and Intermittent Fasting, compared to the 1980’s, which was Slim fast.

Ultimately, I see macros as just another fad, not to mention a headache.

In the episode, I finished up by turning this back on you. For you to check-in with yourself and see macro tracking and Fitbit tracking are really serving you? Is this helping you get to the relationship with food and body that YOU want?

There is no one way to eat, live, workout, or do anything.
You are the one who gets to make the call.

Emotional eating is often a symptom to anxiety and control.
But so many try to solve this "problem" by adding in MORE control.
Cutting out food groups, restrictions in amounts and time.
More of the problem is NOT the solution.

You do not need more control.
In fact, your attempt at control, at making your food fit into this perfect box, that is what is resulting in you to feel out of control.

There is a fear though, that if you do not control and manage your food, you will never stop eating or never stop gaining weight, right?
But....when you feel like you've messed up your day around food, you usually eat more faster.
"Already effed up the day. Might as well just end it with a bang!!"

The solution is to begin to loosen the grip.
To stop fighting food and yourself.
To address anxiety and get to the root of what is actually making you feel out of control because I promise it is NOT the food.

And this is such critical work because, and I've seen this happen a lot and also experienced it in myself, that anxiety you feel around food will just switch lanes.

Your food might begin to feel ok but now you are stressed about work, feeling inadequate, working long hours, obsessed, frantic, trying to prove your worth on the verge of a complete mental breakdown.

The same way you were with food.

I hope this episode opens your eyes to some ways you can practice loosening the grip, easing into life and actually enjoying it a little more instead of always hustling, pushing and burning out.

In this episode I had the great pleasure of interviewing Katharine Jeffcoat.

Katharine is a Registered Dietitian with over 22 years of experience in the field of pediatric nutrition. She worked 8 years at Emanuel Children’s hospital in Portland, Oregon as a clinical and outpatient pediatric dietitian, part of the feeding clinic team, and provided nutrition classes at the eating disorder day hospital.

She spent 9 years in the pediatric allergy and prevention industry with Nutricia and Nestle.
With a goal of returning to her passion for working with families and pediatric nutrition, she opened her private practice Portland Pediatric & Family Nutrition in the Fall of 2015 and has an office in Portland and Vancouver.

The majority of her work is around supporting families with picky eaters, eating disorders and ARFID.Her mission is to help families nourish their children to have a healthy relationship with food and their bodies.

Katharine has overcome her own feeding challenges being a mom of two girls, who are now 6 and 11.

In this episode we answer several questions from listeners ranging from, "What to do if my kid doesn't eat vegetables?" to "I'm worried my teen eats too much junk food" and "is dessert an ok reward?"

I personally learned a lot from this episode and I hope you do too!

Dealing With Dieters.

You know, the person telling you how great she feels after cutting out food groups.
The person telling you how this isn't a diet, but a lifestyle change.
The individual going on and on about how much they just need to lose weight and starting next month things will be different.

It is triggering.
I still don't enjoy spending time people that want to talk about their food or how much they hate their body or want to lose weight.

So how do you deal with them? Are you just supposed to listen? Are they right? Is it THE magic plan?
This is actually something I didn't discuss in the podcast but you MAY have this feeling. You may wonder for half a second if they DO have the new magic solution.
That's normal.

But then your logical brain will come in and remind you "I've done that 100 times in the past. That isn't is."

Dieting is sneaky because companies have discovered how to add in words and angles that make it SEEM like it's not a diet because we as women, and society, are catching on that diets really DON'T work.

Companies like Weight Watchers have rebranded and Noom tries to sell you on the idea that it is about "habit change".

It is a diet.
Don't be fooled.
And fine, by all means, diet if you want.
But let's be honest and call it what it is.

In this episode I discuss what exactly a diet is, how you can still be dieting despite eating more than enough calories and how to handle friends, family or peers that won't stop talking about their diet or weight.

What's your relationship to the scale??
Love hate?
Not great?
Abusive?

I know a lot of you weigh yourself.
You may not even think about it before you do it either, it just happens. Like breathing.

Wake up, go pee, strip down, weigh.
That's ok, I'm not here to shame you, I am here to open your eyes to another possibility though.
Another way of existing on this planet.
One that does not revolve around food and weight.

Because here is what I believe to be true about you.
You are smart. You are motivated.

When you set your mind to something, you do it.
But the food piece, damnit, why does it feel so hard?

I'm here to disrupt that cycle.
I am here to help you make it so much easier.
I'm here to hopefully put a little pause, if not a complete halt on weighing yourself.

I know you think it helps.
I know you think "it helps you stay on track" or some of you don't even really know why you do it, you just "need to know."

If what you want is an easy relationship with food.
To just be able to eat when hungry, stop when full, and trust yourself, does the scale REALLY help you in that process?
Weighing yourself is likely just another tool that is used against you.
It keeps you pushing against yourself instead of trusting yourself.

I hope you enjoy this episode as I talk about the in's and out's of weighing yourself.

"I started dieting at age 22 and from that point on it has been a struggle. I have been a binger, I've lost weight, I've gained weight, I've tried everything and I got to the point of being really scared about my health.
I was also at point of hating food. I wished there was just a pill I could take.
Then I reached out to you.
I don't think about food or weight 24/7 and it is just a miracle. I can keep bread and sugar in my house and not eat it all.I really didn't think this was possible for me. Do not wait to do this work."

I hope you enjoy this episode with Lyn as much as I did.

She is a current coaching client and we have only been working together for a couple months and food really just isn't a problem for her any more. And that is after 55 years of dieting, bingeing, restricting, killing herself in the gym, and just all around obsessing about food and weight.

She's now able to show up and be present in her life. She is more social now, she feels hopeful for her future and she is happy with who she is today.

I hope you enjoy this episode with Lyn and find some inspiration from her because I sure do.

(There were a couple of times where her mic went out but we got it figured out so just keep listening.)

Safety Net:a safeguard against possible hardship or adversity.

What is your safety net?
What is the thing in the back of your mind that you think "if this doesn't work, I will do that."

Is it really helping?

I have noticed something within my clients and just humans in general. When we have one foot in and one foot out, the odds of us achieving our goal is not great.

This makes sense, right?
But have you ever thought about how that shows up in your relationship to food and body?

When you decide to give up dieting.
But at the same time think, "ok, but I'm only one click away from ordering that new plan if this doesn't work!"
How committed will you really be to ending the war with food?
How committed are you in finding a way to make this work?

What will you do on the day where your food is shit and you feel BLAH
DIET!

Duh! It is already on the front of your mind because you have been batting the idea around for weeks.

How differently would you show up if you had no back up plan. If you KNEW this was the way and just because you had a bad or off day, it didn't mean you were failing, it just meant you were doing it.

Is your safety net really keeping you safe?

In this podcast I explain why the very thought of having a diet or new plan in your back pocket could keep you from making progress you want.

“But what if I really need to lose weight?”

Most of the clients that come to me wouldn't be mad if they just HAPPENED to lose weight some.Or they will outright say, "I really want to lose X pounds."

Some are hesitant to tell me this because they feel like it is "the wrong thing to say."There is never a "wrong" thing to say.The fact that you would want to lose weight isn't surprising at all considering the culture that we live in.

We are all fighting our own battle with fatphobia and weight discrimination. You wanting to lose weight doesn't make you bad or a failure and it isn't something you need to be ashamed of.

The part I want to open your eyes to and really get clear about is the HOW?
How to you plan to lose weight?
What would you do different?

Often it’s “I’d exercise more , I’d eat a few more vegetables, I’d take better care of myself”
Ok, honestly it’s usually a bit more extreme and harsh which is why it’s not sustainable.

When you reach the point of “this is enough, I MUST lose weight!!” You think you need a plan as intense as the hate for your body.

So you reach for something extreme.
And it works...for a month or two or even 6, but you inevitably end up where you started or worse.

The actual food plays about a 4% role in this work.

If you are someone who wants to lose weight, you know diets don't work but also feel lost as to what your next step should even be, Ep 18: ‘so you wanna lose weight’ is for you!

I see women all the time get trapped by this imaginary net.
They feel stuck. They think they can't escape. They think they cannot move or do anything differently until someone comes over and takes the net off.

But......there is no net.
The net is the imagined limit you have put on yourself.
The net is your level of belief in yourself.

We all operate from a current set of beliefs.
And we all have goals we want to achieve and most of us desire to continue improving as a human.
But where the net is keeping us stuck is believing we need some THING to get what we want or reach those goals or be that person.

We think:
"I just want to be the person who likes who I am"
"I just want to be more confident"
"I just want to be enough"

And we believe before this things can happen, something in our external environment must change.
NOPE!

The women you see who are larger than you rocking their full figure without a doubt.
Others taking risks because they just know they will succeed.
The person who shows up to the party exuding confidence.

They are no different than you.
They have just decided that is who they are.

Stop waiting for x,y, and z to change before you can start liking who you are.
Before you start filling your true role in life.

Start today.

Life gets chaotic.
Life gets stressful.

I am currently packing up my childhood home, closing the sale on it, and moving across the country.

It's been a bit chaotic at times!

In this episode I talk about how to take the edge off and also survive big moves, life changes or just stressful weeks, without having to binge your face off.

Women with a history of dieting or emotional eaters tend to first jump to food for a coping skill but food is also the first thing they think is their problem. (See the connection there)

If out of no where you notice yourself snacking more or feeling the urge to binge, instead of jumping to a new diet plan to better control your food or restrain yourself, let's look at what is REALLY going on. Get curious as to WHY your food is feeling weird right now. What else has been happening in your life? One of my favorite sayings is "curiosity over judgement." It is easy to fall into the shame and blame spiral but it is not useful.

All of my clients are go getters, high achieving, bad ass women.
And when they set their mind to something they GET IT DONE.

But we cannot operate at 100% all of the time.
We cannot constantly be giving, doing and creating.

You need time to rest. To relax. To recharge. To not be the most productive and sometimes to just not do it at all( like workout, meal prep or plan everything) Some weeks you just need several nights of take out food and chicken burritos to make life easy :)

This podcast covers ways I have personally been managing chaos without relapse and I offer new ways of handling uncertain times in your life.

Body image work is a critical piece when breaking up with binge eating and just general sanity around food.

If you think back to your first diet, you probably started it because you felt like something was wrong with how you looked. So hating our body came before the dieting piece. And then for many of us, after years of dieting our body image continued to get worse and our food continued to get more out of control.

Body acceptance does NOT mean giving up. Body acceptance does not mean you stop taking care of yourself. In fact, if may mean for the first time EVER you START taking care of yourself.

I give you specific exercises in this podcast to help you start building a better body image and working on body acceptance.

In this episode I am digging into setting boundaries.

This sounds simple, right? Like something we should have learned in grade school!
But so many of us have such a hard time expressing what we need.
We get stretched too thin. We don't speak up.
We pretend everything is ok.
We think what we are feeling is dumb and brush it off.
Then it shows up in our relationship with food.

We get anxious or angry and take it out on ourselves by eating, restricting or some other behavior.

This episode I give you several examples on HOW to set a boundary, why it is important and one thing most people miss when doing so.

Exercise.

All or nothing.

You are either crushing it at life or life feels like it is a dumpster fire.

How many times have you thought, "15 minutes isn't even worth it!" or "If it doesn't hurt, I must not be pushing hard enough."

This all or nothing thinking doesn't only impact your relationship to food but also exercise.

In this podcast I am going to help you see fitness/exercise/movement in a different light.

To view it as something helpful and enjoyable and not something you HAVE to do or punishment for what you ate.

"I shouldn't still be struggling with this."
"I should be further along."

When we are working on a goal it is easy to fall into the trap of "it shouldn't take this long".

Which I am not here to say if that is or is not true, but when you tell yourself you shouldn't be exactly where you are does it motivate you to do what you need to do?
Or does it cause you to shut down?
To stop taking action or take the action you are trying to stop?

In this episode I talk about "goal entitlement", how it shows up in our lives and how to move past it.

I also mentioned my free facebook group which I will be sharing some interviews I did over the weekend discussing body image and body acceptance.

Most of the women I work with have been disconnected from their body for a long time.
Some may even say it is an abusive relationship.

Intuitive eating is the process of connecting the MIND AND THE BODY.
Basically, your brain has been the ex-husband and your body has been an ex-wife, trying to live in a one bedroom apartment together, after a VERY nasty divorce....
It ain't working out so well!

We don't need them to fall back in love but we DO need some communication.

IE(intuitive eating) helps you connect the brain and the body.

Intuitive Eating will not SOLVE all your food issues, it will not cure emotional eating.
This is just a step in the process.

IE is something you can only do in the moment.

With the increase of popularity with IE over the last few years you may see people marketing it as a weight loss tool....no. That is missing the WHOLE point. Will you lose weight? Will you gain weight? Will you stay the same? Again, I have no idea. The idea is to help you start eating in a way that FEELS good.

The most common thing I hear women say is "if I don't control my food, I will NEVER stop eating!" But when you are listening to your body, when you are respecting your body, when you WANT to feel good in your body, whole packages or Oreos, cartons of ice cream or boxes of cereal don't usually feel so great.

I mentioned an excellent podcast during this episode and that on "10% Happier" with Evelyn Tribole, one of the creators of IE, goes into more detail about all the in's and out's of it. I loved this episode and really encourage you to listen if you are intrigued by IE or confused by it.

You can listen to that HERE

I also discuss the connection between IE and SEX within this episode.
Confused on how that works?
You will have to listen!

(The connection in the beginning of the episode wasn't that great. Halfway through we shut off our video and it got better. Hang in there!)

I am fortunate to get to work with some of THE most amazing women.
Some I have never met before, but some I have known before we start our work together.

Karen is someone I knew before, kind of...
Maybe more appropriate to say we had seen each other in real life a couple of times. Ha!

She reached out to me about 6 months ago and decided she was tired of the madness she felt around food and her body. I immediately knew during our initial conversation she was all in.Which is something I love about her. She is so real and authentic.
She was so ready to be done with feeling like a prisoner to food.

In this interview we discuss why she finally reached out and her thoughts with starting.

She opens up about what it was like to eat so many cookies she felt sick after a few weeks of our work together and how she could never keep food in her house before this process.

We discuss the feelings she had after 50 years of being at war with food to go to the grocery story and just buy things she actually wanted to eat. Food that simply looked good to her!

She also shares how this has impacted not only her relationship to food but to friends and family.

I know you will gain inspiration from hearing Karen's story.
Please feel free share this episode with others.

Have you ever stopped to think, "Why would I think that?" or "where did that thought come from?"

Probably not.

Why would you?

We are never taught to question our own thinking.

We take what we think as fact.
We believe it.

Have you ever thought about how THAT is impacting your life? How the 6 billion thoughts you have a day just might play a small role in the life that you have? Or the way that you feel about yourself?

In this weeks episode I am challenging you to take a look inside your own mind. To stop taking everything you think as fact and decide on purpose to think in a way that actually feels good.

When you can do this, when you can start to see your thinking and manage your mind, your life will make so much more sense.
Reaching your goals will be so much easier.

Enjoy this weeks episode!

This is a topic most all of my clients feel they struggle in.

The day is good, eating was good and yet something happens.

After have dinner, you are lounging around, winding down, then you feel it...the pull to the kitchen... Calling you for just a little snack...

Before you know it you have eaten half the fridge and cleaned out the majority of the cupboards. AGAIN.

I give you some tips to experiment with within this episode.

If this was helpful to you, please share it! I would also greatly appreciate it if you left me a rating and review.

You are sure you are eating enough food, you shouldn't be hungry, but you can't stop eating!

You wonder what you are missing.
You keep eating more, even though you aren't hungry.
You find yourself eating the whole bag of chips when you were full after just a few handfuls.

Pay attention, this one is for YOU!
In this episode I am going to discuss the difference between physical restriction and mental restriction and shine a light on what could be going on with your head to keep you going back for more food.

Does sugar feel like your kryptonite?
Once you start, you just can't stop?
Maybe you would even consider yourself addicted to sugar?

If you are saying yes to any of these questions, you do not want to miss this week's episode where we will dig into my thoughts, research and experience with sugar.

I don't think you have to eliminate entire food groups to reach sanity. In fact, when you have restricted food you have probably noticed you want it more than ever. Or maybe the day before a big diet or cleanse you decided to start you ate ALL the carbs, pastries and sugar. Further convincing yourself how badly you needed this new plan.

This is known as "last supper mentality" and is actually a very healthy response to deprivation.

If sugar has been a pain point for you, I hope you will listen to this podcast with an open mind. I hope that you can take away a few things from this episode to begin to see and eat sugar differently.

In this episode I have a conversation with my partner,David, about what it has been like for him in our relationship over the last few years as far as my food and body goes.
What this has been like from his perspective and what he has learned.
Also what he thinks is helpful as someone who doesn't really "get it" but wants to be supportive.
We also discuss his own relationship to food and body.

If you are someone who is in a relationship and not sure how to enter into this new territory of dating in recovery/just dating while building a better relationship to yourself- you will love this episode.

You may notice this episode starts off and ends a little different than the rest...I let David play around with the editing a bit on this one:)
