The gospel of the coming kingdom of God is a message of how governance on earth (and presumably all creation) will be set right… “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice.”
John 3:1-2 Nicodemus “you are a great teacher sent from God”
Verses 3-8 Jesus reply seems enigmatic… why wasn’t He more straightforward?
Why not something like:
“Nicodemus… actually I am God. Technically the Father and I together are God, we are one, we are a family. You are correct in that I was sent here, you see the Father sent me. You haven’t met the Father yet… I’m here to reveal Him to you, to show you what He’s like and what He’s all about. As I mentioned before… the Father and I are one. So, if you’ve seen me you’ve seen the Father and I’m only going to say what He would have me say, so if you hear my words you’ve heard the Father’s words.”
Jesus could have said all that to Nicodemus…
Instead the essence of what He told Nicodemus was “You cannot really understand who I am and my purpose because you do not have the spiritual understanding you can only get through the Holy Spirit”
If we look closely at His words we find quite a bit of information packed into small space:

Flesh & blood cannot see the Kingdom of God

Flesh & blood cannot enter the Kingdom of God
-
You have to be re-born. Not of flesh, but begotten of the Holy Spirit
There are some very BIG concepts here: Flesh & blood, Seeing/perceiving, Entering/manifestation/realization, Rebirth through the Spirit… But they all revolve around the Kingdom of God, understanding it, working towards it, and being part of it.
What does the word Kingdom mean?
Kingdom = Basileia, an abstract noun denoting sovereignty, royal power, dominion e.g. Rev 17:18 And the woman whom you saw is that great city which reigns (basileia) over the kings of the earth… LIT having basileia over the kings of the earth.
So we could also say the Kingdom of God is the “Rule of God” or the “Reign of God”. Try using the phrase Rule of God where you see Kingdom of God and it changes the way you think about what’s being said.
For example: the kingdom of Charles III vs. the reign of Charles III … Using the word kingdom evokes images of castles, walls, territory, subjects and gets us thinking in very physical concrete terms… which is how our flesh and blood minds tend to. Using the phrase “Rule of God” allows us to focus on the quality, nature and of what God is doing.
Is the Kingdom the Millenium?
As a group we tend to zoom in on the millenial rule of Jesus Christ as “the Kingdom of God” even to the point of considering them to be one in the same thing. But is there any place in the universe or any time when God was not or is not the supreme authority over all things? No.
God allows free will and freedom to choose in the universe and so there are beings and places that will not submit themselves to the Rule of God and are in a state of rebellion against it, such as, Satan, the fallen angels, man and by extension planet earth.
Jesus millennial rule is not the beginning of the Kingdom or the extent of the Kingdom – it’s the time when the time of rebellion against the Rule of God have run its course and served God’s greater purpose and it will be brought to an end.
Those who have been rebellious (man, Satan, demons), and the place where the rebellion was focused and acted out in space and time (earth) will be brought into subjection to the Rule of God.
Daniel 7:13-14, Dan 2:44
Flesh and Blood Cannot See the Kingdom of God
Lets try substituting the phrase Rule of God to help answer the question: Why can’t the FLESH see the Kingdom of God?
Kingdom of God à see = witnessing it happen
Rule of God à see = understanding what is going on, perceive, recognize, understand (and accept)
Consider the people who are alive in the flesh during the millennium. Are they going to see the Kingdom of God? the answer is Yes and No… as flesh and blood humans they will see the Rule of Jesus Christ in action. But as flesh they cannot be said to have understood the Kingdom of God or to have entered into the Kingdom of God. They are subject to the Rule of God re-established on earth… And from what glimpses we have of that time some will accept it willingly, some will not.

Final rebellion of Satan and Mankind at the end of the Millenium
The millennium will be a wonderful time of peace, a world filled with the knowledge of the truth, and overflowing the spirit of God. But God is not going to take away freedom of choice. The choices available will be a little different than they are now. You can either submit to the Rule of God willingly or grudgingly but open rebellion will be dealt with swiftly and sternly.
Truly seeing, understanding, perceiving, accepting, the Kingdom of God is still a matter of the spirit.
And as we will see later on truly entering into the kingdom of God remains a matter of the spirit.
Because the flesh is all about the flesh, its needs and its desires… not wrong in and of themselves. Wrong only in the sense that they push aside the spiritual matters that God wants us all to focus on.
What does the flesh understand and accept?
I need to preserving myself, protect myself, provide for itself, reproduce myself. In other words eating, drinking, clothes, houses and sex.
Matt 6:24-32 reasonable normal needs which God is happy to provide
Verse 33 how do we get focused on the Kingdom of God and its righteousness?
Matt 16:24-26 You have to change your perspective on your life in the flesh
1) You have already died in the flesh – Colossians 2:9-12
2) Killing off the remnants of the person you were… being transformed by the renewing of your mind -- Colossians 2:9-12, 3:5-10
But the flesh isn’t interested in all that. The flesh is interested in preserving and protecting itself… not crucifying itself or sacrificing itself for others, not subjecting its needs to some “spirit thing” it cannot see, taste, touch, smell. The flesh doesn’t understand the “Rule of God”, and so the flesh doesn’t recognize and ultimately the flesh does not accept the “Rule of God” over it. Romans 8:5-8
I Cor. 2:10 But you are more than merely flesh & blood… humanity has a spiritual component we call the “spirit in man”. And it is this spiritual within you that can be transformed by interacting with the Holy Spirit, turned on, tuned in so you can grow and develop as a spiritual creation, seeing the Kingdom of God, recognizes it, acknowledges it, accept the “Rule of God” and thereby ENTER into the Kingdom of God, participate in the Rule of God.
The spirit in man doesn’t give you understanding on its own, that’s not its default setting, it needs to be switched on… begotten and made alive by the Holy Spirit. It’s a process that begins with the Father John 6:44

Proclamation – the kingdom must be preached

Willingness to listen – cycle of faith

Conviction – I need to act on what I now know
-
Repentance – I need to change my wicked ways
-
Baptism – I need to begin the process of becoming a son of God now rather than later
-
Receipt of the H.S. – gives understanding
Matt 13:11, 14, I John 2:20 Without the Holy Spirit You won’t “Get it” … you won’t “get” the KOG
Flesh and Blood Cannot Enter Into the Kingdom Of God
Let’s use our substitution experiment here and render this phrase
Flesh and blood cannot enter into the Rule of God,
Flesh and blood cannot enter into the Reign of God,
Flesh and blood cannot enter into the Sovereignty of God
… it changes our perspective for the better I think. Here’s why:
Entering into the Kingdom of God means entering into God’s family… which rules.
Jesus said to Nicodemus “flesh gives birth to flesh, but spirit gives birth to spirit”. You were begotten by your flesh and blood father and were born into his family with a flesh & blood body just like your father. If you are begotten by your spiritual Father you will be born into His family. You will be spirit just like God your father… and that is how you may enter into the Kingdom of God by entering into the family.
Once again it’s a process that begins with the Father:
Born of water and the spirit – dead in the flesh, alive in the spirit Romans 6:1-14
Begotten by God the Father – John 1:10-13
Growing as His children – I Peter 2:2
Maturing into the fullness of Christ Ephesians 4:13-15
Building the mind and character of God until we are officially accepted into the family as adult sons of God with the full rights of sons Romans 8:13

Changed into spirit to be like Him – Romans 8:23

Inheritance – as previously mentioned
We enter into the family business which is ruling.
If your family business were carpet cleaning and you wanted to bring your children into the business you would train them in cleaning carpets. If you were a farmer you would train them in farming. If you were the supreme ruler of the universe you would train them in ruling.
So let’s learn the family business. Learn to rule yourself… rule over your own flesh, rule over your spirit, learn to rule and exercise whatever authority you are given. How you administer your family, how you deal with your worldly wealth… be faithful and Godly in the little tasks the Father has given you his beloved children… prepare yourself to enter into the Kingdom of God.
I John 3:1-2
The worthiness of Jesus Christ is the solution He provides for sin... which is more than better laws more better enforced. It is a matter of heart. To be part of the solution you must have this change of heart.
Psalm 32:1-2 this is a song about the relief and joy a person feels flowing through them when they face up to their sins, confess them to YHWH, and are forgiven. Because of the benefits of these positive thoughts and emotions... the song implies "why wait"... yet it also says "don't delay".
Why does God communicate to us so often in terms of battle, warfare, weapons, and fighting? From the literal warfare of entering into the promised land... to waging spiritual warfare with faith as a shield, truth is a sword, salvation a helmet.

The bible presents the living God as present everywhere... the true God knows all, sees all, judges all. But when actually interacting with human beings God declares His presence differently... To Israel He said, "I am with you (not with them), I am here (not there)".

Correction and/or consequences of sin can leave you resentful, bitter, doubtful of His love. Remembering God has chosen you for a greater purpose gives such suffering meaning and purpose.
This Passover season let’s remember that choosing by God… a choosing for a purpose far greater than just our own personal salvation.

Jesus’ judges didn’t want to consider the truth. They knew He had performed miracles, they knew He had raised Lazarus (in fact that was event that made them decide He must die), they knew large group of armed men had fallen to the ground at the power of His voice when He was arrested, they knew He had compassionately reattached Malchus’s ear, they knew they could find no credible witness against Him of any sin. But they wanted Him gone and out of their lives… and they rejected truth.

We don't know a lot of details about Jesus growing up. But, today we are going to look at what we do know. This will serve as a conclusion to the previous two messages about Jesus' conception and birth.
Of all the things that could have been said about Jesus as a pre-teen, or teen... we are only told what is most important... He actively sought out understanding of God in His youth. The bible is consistent on this point: seek God while you are young.

The circumstances of Jesus' birth tell us about how God sees life. Humanly devised systems of status, power, and wealth mean nothing to God. So we should ask, why do they mean so much to us?
God has a plan for you... salvation from death... resurrection... placement within His family... participation in the universal rule of God. And, it is not based on your material achievements, status, or wealth.
A better picture of God's life priorities is found in Jesus' birth in the flesh. Nobody in this world, but set apart, to serve God's purpose, to give Himself as a sacrifice to God, and to rise up to everlasting life.
With that in mind, let's review the birth of Jesus and consider the different reactions it produced in those who were on the scene.

In May 2023, archaeologist Scott Stipling published his discovery of an altar on Mount Ebal which proves to be the very one mentioned in Deuteronomy 27 and Joshua 8.
Within the covenant there were blessings for obedience and curses for disobedience. This is the curse of the law Paul referenced in Galatians 3:10.

The bible is filled with: prophecy, history, miracles, theology, discussions of God's nature. futurism etc. All these various types of instruction are built upon (or revolve around) an ethical core. That core is based on concepts like equal justice, honesty, loyalty, non-violence, avoiding destructive thought patterns.
Simple (not simplistic) concepts that don't require a Phd to learn... or teach... and all the prophecy, history, miracles etc. serve the purpose of pointing us back to this ethical core.
Today, I would like to use the virtue list of 2 Peter to see how the bible’s many roads lead back to the ethical core of moral behavior.

Futuristic thinkers, and respected scientists alike, have dreamed that the sum of our minds... our intellect, our memories, even what we call consciousness might be captured digitally or in some form of software and be reloaded into some sort of machine... maybe a humanoid robot... maybe something better.

Today, we’ll look at one of God’s laws about debt and forgiveness and consider its practical value and the spiritual lesson it contains.

Forgiveness is part of putting on the mind of God. Generosity is closely related to forgiveness. It is easy to look at someone in need/trial/trouble and say... they deserve what get... its their own fault... if they'd only made the right choices [like me] they wouldn't be in the state they are in... they chose the easy was and now they are paying for it. And in some cases that's true.
To extend generosity to people like this is to forgive their mistakes and help them.
If not for God’s forgiveness... and generosity... you would not be here. You would have any hope or expectation of everlasting life. You would be like a caged criminal sentenced to death, awaiting our final execution. But, He forgave… and He gave His only begotten Son to set you free from your debt to sin.
From one screw up to another... I'm glad God is forgiving.

This way of life is built upon the foundation of the 10 commandments... to that we add the judgments and statutes God has given to show how to apply the commandments. These laws are sensible and practical with guidance for managing finances, for building and strengthening marriages and families, for healthful clean living, for social equity and cohesion. As much as they are applied they show good results.

Jude's letter warns the Church about some people who were part of the Church but were teaching and promoting false ideas that had the potential to lead a lot of people astray.
These false teachers questioned the reality of permanent destruction for those who disobeyed God. They also twisted the grace, mercy and patience of God such that it became a green light for all sorts of immorality. The spirit of man is found in every human being.
This spirit is not the Holy Spirit because scripture is very clear that not everyone has the Holy Spirit in them. The Holy Spirit of God is a special gift given to some people to set them apart and designates them for a special purpose.

The first fruits offerings upon which the day of Pentecost is established reflect a biblical principle in which a small portion of a very large crop is presented before God. This tiny portion offered has a sanctifying effect upon the whole.
Smallness is built into the symbolism of the first fruits!
God chooses to work with only a small portion now and leaves the rest for later. God's work of spiritual creation is rolled out in stages. It starts small... then grows bigger. In this way God distributes the work of proclamation and instruction among human beings. God likes to get others involved.

Jude's letter provides warning and instruction about handling false teachings that are prophesied to infiltrate the Church. We can detect the false from the true by comparing it with the written word... ie. the faith once delivered. We can also tell what is false from the behavior it produces.
Because we have this deposit of truth delivered to us from God we are warned of certain behaviors (Jude uses the example of sexual immorality) which are considered "bad fruit".

The bible indicates that offering salvation to all human beings comes in stages 1 Corinthians 15:22-26. ALL will be made alive but each in turn:
First - Christ is raised from the dead to eternal life
Then - those who are His followers are raised to eternal life at Christ's return
Then - "the end" - those who have never become followers of Christ, or even had the opportunity to do so will be raised and enter into a period of judgment. "the end" marks a momentous time which, when finished, will remove death from the human experience forever.

God intended for Moses to have face to face interaction with Pharaoh. What’s really going on is that through Moses God would have His demand delivered directly to the man at the top. But God warned Moses that Pharaoh would refuse to listen. Jesus gave us the same warning, “if they reject me, they will reject you", "you will be persecuted for teaching what I tell you".
The first portion of his long life was a time of preparation for the role God had in store for him. He was son of the Pharaoh's daughter with access to all the finer things of Egypt including a good education. He would have been a man with sophisticated tastes and sensibilities. In his early 40's he would have been at the peak of his career. A career that involves words and deeds.
Moses would only become the person God could use to deliver His holy nation after additional training. The great man of words and action needed meekness, humility, and patience. He would learn these traits through 40 years as a shepherd in the wilderness of Midian.

The bible is very clear that each and every one of us has a direct, personal relationship with Christ, and through Him, you can go directly to the Father, and the throne of grace, anytime. Your access to Him does not go through the Church. However, much of what God does with you is done through the Church.
Just as Israel was commanded by God to march boldly out of Egypt… you have been told [and are being reminded today] to come out of sin. Sin is violations of God holy perfect commandments… but beyond actions and trespasses, sin is also a way of thinking and acting that has no positive future.

Sin has no future because through sin you have become separated from God… and separated from the tree of life… cut off from the potential of entering eternal existence. So, you need to get back into a right relation to God… but that means you have to leave some things behind.
Exodus is part of an unfolding story. It's a continuation of the Genesis account of Abraham's family. But their history is also your history.
Sound doctrines and beliefs must be based on the word of God... absorbing the content... teaching it to others... supporting those who teach... supporting the authority that is behind it... intellectually... administratively... emotionally... financially... and spiritually.
If we do this in the proper balance of word, authority, and spirit we will be growing in grace and knowledge.
Jonah’s story challenges assumptions. Assumptions about what it means to be “chosen”… not a free ticket but a responsibility. Assumptions about the power of human freedom within the framework of prophecy and the will of God.
Jonah 1:1 this verse allows us to find Jonah in 1 Kings 14:23-25. He came from a town in northern Israel on the south coast of the sea of Galilee near Nazareth. He appears to be a part of the company of prophets surrounding the king of the norther tribes… Jeroboam II. The time frame would be 780 BC.... about 50 years before northern Israel would fall to the Assyrians.
God wants us to know and understand Him through 1) what He does (hesed, exercises kindness, grace, mercy) and 2) what He says (guidelines for justice and righteousness). However, most professing Christians (Catholic, Protestant, Orthodox) insist that God must be understood in a very different manner... the trinity.

There is no explicit command for us to wear certain types of clothing to Sabbath services. Jackets... ties... robes... togas... tunics... dresses... pantyhose... sandals. God leaves us to our own devices in inventing different ways to dress.
How we dress (especially for special occasions) comes and goes as the decades and centuries roll by. Given enough time jackets and ties will disappear… but the principle of dressing for the occasion will not.

The Creator made the Sabbath for multiple functions: it is a day of instruction, it is a prophetic shadow of things passed, and things yet to come, and it is a sign of recognition between the Most High God and the people He is working with.
Regarding the time of His return, Jesus teaches readiness and vigilance. Then He hints that it comes suddenly after a long long time... and as a thief in the night.

The Day of Atonement Has Meaning For Our Time
Hebrew 9:8-10 - one of the features of the day of atonement is: our present separation from God... lost at Eden... cast out from His presence… the way back guarded by angels with flaming swords... as pictured on the veil used in the temple.
The day of Atonement was a symbolic picture of the coming restoration of our direct relationship with God... but it was only a symbol. The reality of re-establishing that direct relationship would only come to pass through Jesus Christ.
The offerings of Leviticus 16 are no longer a part of our observance of the day of Atonement. Under the new covenant they have been replaced by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ… who is also now acts as the high priest. The symbols and outward observance didn't have the power to transform people from within... they could not cleanse our conscience. But Christ can.

Resurrection from the dead and the gift of eternal life is the “hope” of all mankind. To no longer fear or anticipate death. The scriptures teach that ALL will be raised (John 5:28) but that there is an order in which the dead will be resurrected.
The Feast of Trumpets celebrates and proclaims the resurrection of those who are in Christ at His return. the resurrection of the just… the better resurrection. God has the power to give you this… He wants to give it to you.

The battles between the king of the north and the king of the south is the longest and most detailed of the prophetic visions given to Daniel. It adds detail to previous visions but without the symbolism or riddle. The focus of the vision is the person who will rise up at the end time... a.k.a. the man of lawlessness, the anti-Christ, the beast.

Sins of hostility and enmity are about how we think about others. Do we think of a treat others as friends, or enemies... are they family or are they rivals? This applies within the Church and outside the Church.
If God is going to raise you up to be seated with Christ and assist Him in the millennial rule and beyond... you have to build a positive outlook towards others.

You have been called to holiness. Which means your life has been recategorized by God and set apart to accomplish His purpose. Use this as a way of seeing and understanding all the trials. the tests, the persecutions, the insults... as having great meaning and headed toward a great goal.
Do not become discouraged... do not allow a root of bitterness to take root within you... do not allow yourself to treat the things of God as "no big deal"... do not disobey His righteous commands... do not give up your inheritance... keep moving forward.
Sexual immorality is a top priority among the sin lists of Paul. Those who are not working to overcome all the items on these sin lists will not have a place in the kingdom of God. Pay attention to the prominence of sexual sins.

The 7th commandment is the beginning of our Creator's instruction about sexual activity that is healthy... or avoiding what is unhealthy. IE what is good for us emotionally, psychologically, culturally, and spiritually. This is a law we would not become aware of by observing the natural world around us... it is not self evident... it is revealed / given / for our well being as beings who are both natural and spiritual at the same time.
As the data about the effects of the sexual revolution continues to come it confirms that what we are doing is not making us happier or more fulfilled.
Men are not thriving... women are not thriving... children are not thriving... society is not thriving.

As a human being… Mary Magdalene was nobody special really. What made her special is Jesus’ appearance to her... Likewise, you are nothing special, [not a gathering of the beautiful, the rich, the elite] what makes you important, significant, noteworthy is that you have been brought into the body of the resurrected and living Christ.
People try to spice up the gospel record by imagining Mary as an alluring reformed prostitute who either seduced or tempted Jesus… this is just guesswork, speculation, even blasphemy which the scriptural record does not say anything about.
What we do know about Mary is that she had every reason to love Jesus deeply for the deliverance He made possible.

A Scripturally Driven Conclusion
Elijah was relieved of his responsibilities and taken away in a chariot of fire so Elisha could take over. He was simply removed from where the action was. He is not to the "3rd heaven" beyond the material realm. He was taken up in a whirlwind to some unknown place in the land. That is how Elijah could send a letter to king Jehoram years after he had been removed from the area... he was still on earth.
Jesus told us to take note of the abomination and rebellion of abomination in the temple of God as foretold in the prophecies of Daniel. Although this prophecy of Daniel is a premier example of prophecy that has already been fulfilled in great detail in the life of Antiochus IV... Jesus spoke of it as a future event signaling the nearness of His second coming.
Could it be that details of the horrible exploits of Antiochus Epiphanes can give us insight into the horrible events that immediately precede Christ's return?

In the prophecies of Revelation we find out that the final trumpet is the last in a sequence of 7 trumpets. These 7 trumpets begin to blow in succession with the opening of the 7th seal Revelation 8:1-2.
We also learn from the prophecies of Revelation that the last 3 of these 7 trumpets form a grouping, or a subset of the 7 trumpets... referred to as "the three woes" Revelation 8:13.
This message will review the final blast of the 7th trumpet as part of this final grouping of three trumpet blasts. In other words, trumpets 5, 6, and 7.
The Three Woes of Revelation
Daniel in the Lion's Den is one of the most well known events in the bible! The setting is the aftermath of the Persian conquest of Babylon. A new government was being formed... very likely within the first or second year 539-537 BC. Daniel was over 80 years old but God still had a few more things for him to do.
According to the historians Xenophon and Herodotus Belshazzar's feast happened October 12 539 BC. 30 years had passed since the death of Nebuchadnezzar… a new king was on the throne… and Daniel the prophet was an old man [probably 80 years old].

If you do the work of reorganizing our priorities and broadening your perspective to embrace eternity you will see purpose in your life... and when you see that purpose you will find joy... no matter what!
The 4th chapter of Daniel is unique... it is the personal testimony of one of the great Gentile kings about his personal encounter with the living God. Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, had an intense experience that changed his way of thinking and he wants you to know about it.

At the end of the book of Proverbs we find a character sketch of a woman… she’s a good woman, she’s a wife, she’s a mother. Through her we are given a short summary of the practical wisdom presented in the book of Proverbs interpreted in the setting of a happy home.
In biblical thought, true wisdom is pictured by contentment with diligent work in a safe, peaceful, structured family setting…. We must actively teach this Godly wisdom to our children. We must do this in word and in deed.

Truly seeing, understanding, perceiving, accepting, and entering into the Kingdom of God is still a matter of the spirit.
Daniel... a man who would be able to tell the king the content of the dream and provide a reliable interpretation... because Daniel was in touch with the spirit world... he was in touch with YHWH the true/living God.

Everything God is currently working on is directed toward the restoration of His will upon earth. Everything we are doing now is preparing for that next step... which is the return of Christ.

The bible often compares spiritual realities to features of our day to day existence to draw out some feature of that spiritual reality... What is Your Reward
The subject of reward should be very important to Christians because it is the time when all good fruit of your life are shown to have made a difference. Everyone who enters the kingdom of God at Christ’s return receives the gift of everlasting life… but what you experience and enjoy within the kingdom of God is unique for each individual AND depends on what you do in this life.
We don’t often dwell on the subject of reward because it gets all tangled up in the various misunderstandings about “trying to earn your salvation”. Understanding the biblical teaching on reward means understanding the difference between the judgment of your sin (which leads to salvation unto eternal life or eternal death) versusjudgment of your works – (which leads to reward).

Focus on doing the best possible job you can fulfilling your responsibility toward you children. This will be pleasing to God.

What Christ's Government Will Look Like
A Fundamental Truth Hidden in Plain Sight
There is a resurrection for the rest of the dead who are not in Christ at His return. They rise again to life following the 1,000 year rule of Christ on earth. So we also have a final holy day following the 7 day Feast of Tabernacles... the eighth day... the final feast... the final step in God's plan to bring many children to glorious everlasting life.
Leviticus 23:34-36, 39 the final biblical festival comes immediately after the 7 day festival... there is no gap between the two. You could easily think of the eighth day as simply the conclusion of the feast of tabernacles... but it signifies a unique event that comes after the FOT is complete.
In the present age Satan has been allowed access to humanity. He has used that access to undermine and interfere with human being's development into fully spirit born children of God. Humans are guilty of allowing Satan's influence to lead them into disobedience towards God... but Satan' guilt is unique... it is not shared with any other... no one led him astray... His rebellion against God was of his own imagination.
When Jesus Christ returns to administer the rule of God on earth His first executive action is to depose Satan and confine him so that he has no ability to access or influence humanity for 1,000 years. The source of deception and evil thinking will be removed and the earth will experience what it is like to live without Satan for that 1,000 years.
That removal of Satan is pictured by the 5th biblical festival, the Day of Atonement.
Leviticus 16:20-22 On the day of Atonement the Azazel goat is cast out into the wilderness carrying the sins of the nation of Israel on its head... this is a prophecy of a future moment in history when Satan will be seized by the angelic servants of God, bound, cast into a bottomless pit, and sealed in Isaiah 27:1.
Satan’s role in introducing sin into our world will be addressed. The strong man will be bound.

The Feast of Weeks is the third annual biblical festival. Its timing and meaning are intimately bound up with the offering of the first fruits to God.
The feast of weeks comes at the end of a countdown of 7 weeks beginning the day after the weekly Sabbath that occurs during the festival of unleavened bread. The last day of this 7 week period is a holy day… also known as Pentecost, it is the feast of weeks Leviticus 23:15-16.
The period of counting begins with a wave offering of the first fruits of the barley harvest. The period of counting ends with a wave offering of first fruits from the wheat harvest.
These offerings of first fruits are highly significant to new covenant Christians. You owe it to yourself to learn more about the Feast of Weeks and the offering of the first fruits.
Fear of God is not a popular concept. A lot of us seem to think that God should be understood primarily as our friend, our buddy, our partner. Its is true God wants to have a joyous, peaceful relationship with you and me... but losing or even downplaying a proper fear of God will lead to disaster.
Fear of God is the Beginning of Wisdom
The bible presents us with a very simple way of reckoning the beginning and end of each day. According to the bible each day of the week begins and ends with the setting of the sun. Using the sunset gives us a simple way of determining each day based on observation rather than advanced knowledge of the solar system available only to a learned few.
When Does The Sabbath Day Begin
Our purpose today is to use references from written history to demonstrate that the Church Jesus established observed the biblical Passover on the 14th of Aviv/Nisan for the first 200 years of its existence. And that is was only after significant political pressure that most christian congregations changed the date of this observance to what is now called Easter Sunday.

The 7 day feast of unleavened bread follows the observance of the Passover… which is fitting since It pictures what must take place after the Passover. The central theme and message of the days of unleavened bread is addressing the ongoing problem of sin.

Daniel's dream of four beast and John's vision of the beast of revelation are both a revealing of what is to come and a riddle at the same time.
The riddle of the beast begins with dream of Nebuchadnezzar which Daniel interprets for the king according to what God told him. Years later Daniel has a dream of his own concerning 4 beast that rise up out of the sea. These are the four successive kingdoms that take us from the demise of Israel to the return of Christ at the end time. Hardening of the heart signifies a spiritual condition that can cause you to miss out on the blessings God has in store for those who are in Christ.
Two main section of scripture in the new testament address how hardness of heart happens:
Romans 9 - where the primary subject is the hardened hearts of Israel. We also get introduced to a prime example of hardness of heart in the person of the Egyptian Pharaoh.
Hebrews 3-4 where the primary subject is the church of God and their attitude towards the 7th day rest [aka the Sabbath].

Sabbath keeping requires that we learn to judge righteous judgement. The ox in a ditch scenario and the question about whether or not it is ok to heal on the Sabbath give us two case studies in how we are to judge matters based on the spirit of the law.
We are not given 10,000 scenarios for what is and is not appropriate on the Sabbath day. We must learn to apply the spirit of the law to our observance to be pleasing to the God who gives the commandment.

The history of Israel leaving Egypt is a lesson for us to leave sin behind us and never look back. God's command that Israel was to come out of a sinful society is as real in our time as it was in the past.
Leaving Egypt is a call to leave the temporary pleasures of our lives in the flesh for a permanent reward with an eternal future. Egypt [along with Sodom and Babylon] typify humanly devised societies that offer an appealing alternative to the way of God. However they lead us away from the path to life.
We must do our part in leaving sin behind... just as Israel had to do their part by getting up on their own two feet and walking out of Egypt. But sin wants you back. Satan will come after you just as the Pharaoh of Egypt chased after the people of Israel.

The apostle Paul sent Timothy to confront false teachers in the church of Ephesus. Paul's instruction to Timothy about how he should confront false teacher and false doctrine in Ephesus give us good guidelines we can still use today!
While the apostle Paul was imprisoned in Rome he was greatly concerned about the congregation of God's Church he had established in Ephesus. Paul was aware that their church life had deteriorated greatly.
Instead of holding to the course of sound doctrine they were engaged in meaningless disputes about questionable matters which Paul called "endless genealogies and fables [myths]. Additionally they were have difficulties maintaining proper order in their worship services. The church in Ephesus need some solid direction about he appropriate roles and responsibilities with a congregation... the household of God!
Paul sent his trusted co-worker Timothy to confront, expose and combat the false teachers, and false doctrine in Ephesus. Its warning and correction we need even today!

➤ False Teachers in the Church of Ephesus
Cleansing by the sprinkling of Christ's blood is the necessary end of an ongoing process to address sin our lives. We must confess our evils, turn away from evil, seeking God's forgiveness and then be sprinkled with blood.
The cleansing power of the sprinkled blood of Jesus is an important part of your walk with God. Through it we are declared clean after having repented of sin, and seeking forgiveness. The sprinkling of blood in mentioned multiple times in the new testament. However, the idea of cleansing through sprinkled blood is not a new concept introduced after Jesus death.
Cleansing through the sprinkling of blood is an important part of the old covenant which has [like most other elements of the old covenant] been adapted and modified under the administration of the new covenant.

Jesus helped the poor and multiple bible verses tell us to help the poor and needy. The bible also reminds us that poverty will always be with us. So what is our goal? We can assume God's goal is not to eradicate poverty... otherwise, He would make it happen. But why does God allow poverty to persist?
The answer is found in an understanding God's purpose in creating human life and His goals and plans for human beings.

Jesus says He is a king but where is His kingdom? Is Jesus king only of the hearts and minds of believers or is there more? Learn what it means that Jesus is King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
Jesus rule as king is more that merely a spiritual presence in the hearts and minds of his followers. Jesus second coming will usher in a new age in the history of the earth. The rule of Christ will extend over all the earth and all its people. He will rule in justice, righteousness, mercy and love.
All human governments will be subject to His rule. This period of Jesus Christ's rule is spoken of as lasting for 1,000 years [commonly called the millenial rule of Christ]. Those who are Christ's at His return will rule together with Him and assist the the king of kings.

Jeroboam became the leader of the 10 northern tribes of Israel and lead them into the sin of false worship. This form of false worship continued with the Samaritan people all the way down to the time of Jesus Christ.
Jesus told the Samaritan woman at the well that true worshipers would worship the Father in spirit and in truth... but why was Jesus talking to her about the nature of true worship?

We are told the people would be restored to Jerusalem and the temple would be rebuilt after 70 years. But how do we know that it really ever happened? Revelation 13:15-17 will the mark of the beast be a tattoo on your flesh, your social security number, a digital chip implanted in your body, facial recognition, retinal scans? Speculating about the specific technology will be used to mark people is just a distraction. Whether its a tattoo or a digital chip is irrelevant.
What matters is WHY its used, WHAT sort of activities it affects, WHO gets it, WHO doesn’t… and what we must do to avoid it. Discussing that is our purpose in this message. However it comes to pass, it is clear that accepting the mark or number will involve compromising and contradicting God’s commands. It will announce that one is officially associated and cooperating with the Beast will be necessary for one to be allowed to engage in commerce.

Every human being who has ever lived will be judged. You, me, the man down the street, Europeans, Asians, Africans, Christians, Muslims, and Buddhists. People who died last week and people who died 3,000 years ago. Various non-biblical cultures have their own ideas about life after death. Christians, Jews, Muslims have their ideas about death. Without recounting all the variations the basic concept is that a person will be judged after they die and receive some sort of reward, or punishment based on what they did in this life.
Most of what is taught about the afterlife and in particular about judgment is foolish non-sense. The only reliable source of information regarding the afterlife and in particular about judgment is the bible. Many people think they know what the bible says about judgment but really don't. The average person's belief about what they think the scriptures say has more in common with human folk-tales that the actual recorded word of God.
Today we are going to review the biblical teaching on judgment.

What You Can Do To Grow Your Faith
You can have the faith of Jesus Christ Himself I'm not talking about having faith IN Jesus Christ… I’m talking about having the faith that Christ had [what English Bibles used to call the faith OF Christ]. The faith that got Him through His trials, difficulties, and tests… yes, He had trials and troubles… He didnt go through His flesh and blood life floating 2 inches off the ground with a golden glow around His head.
Hebrews chapter 11 is a sort of Hall of Fame for faith. Read it and you’ll see Abraham gets a lot of attention and elsewhere he is spoken of as the father of the faithful.
But the greatest example of faith was Jesus.
Hebrews chapter 11 ends after 40 verses… then chapter 12 starts [naturally]. But the beginning of chapter 12 is really the end of our Hall of Fame for faith. The grand finale of the heroes of faith is Jesus.

The universe has physical laws… gravity, the laws of thermo dynamics, genetics, etc… these are the basis for physical life which is temporary. The universe also has spiritual laws which provide the basis for spiritual life which is eternal. These spiritual laws are outlined and explained in the form of God’s commands… the premier example being His 10 commandments.
God’s laws don’t show us how to build a house or split an atom. God’s law is spiritual… and shows us in humanly, understandable terms, the mind of God, We get instruction in how He thinks and how to put it into practice.

God will revitalize the earth at Christ's return. But now His purpose is to revitalize human beings. To fix and repair humanity God pinpoints the key ingredient needed… the Holy Spirit… and it is like a stream of living water in a dry, dry wasteland.
God is promising the free gift of eternal life to those who are willing to take it. Those who endure unto the end will inherit all things along with Christ... the earth and all the universe.
It’s an idea so audacious that when you clearly articulate it… people think you are crazy… as it is written: "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him" but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit. 1 Corinthian 2:9-10.

The Spirit of Service
Ephesians 4:30 says ... Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God
The warning in this verse is directed towards believers who have been baptized and received the Holy Spirit. God is aware of and watching the actions and thoughts of all humanity. However, at this stage in human history He has special care and concern for those He has called to receive His great gift of eternal life. So, this is a warning for disciples of Christ… “do not grieve the Holy Spirit, and prepare to receive that gift of life”.
➤To grieve means to cause sorrow, distress, emotional pain. ➤The one causing the sorrow distress and emotional pain is you or me. ➤The sorrow, distress, and emotional pain is felt by the Holy Spirit of God which is Christ living in you.
The scriptures speak of the Holy Spirit as being grieved because that’s the living Jesus Christ active, and present within you and He is grieved by what’s going on in there. We often speak of Christ’s presence within us as our advocate and helper. However, His presence in us also makes Him witness to everything we say and think… and so He is also our perfect, righteous judge… and so we can cause Him sorrow, distress and emotional pain.
1 Corinthians 4:3-5 Jesus’ judgment will be a total 360 evaluation of your life. Note: this is the judgment that will establish the reward [praise] given to those who are marked with the seal of the Holy Spirit and are raised from the dead at His return [the day of redemption], see 1 Corinthians 3:12-15.
2 Corinthians 5:9-10 we can live a life that is pleasing to Him… or we can live one that grieves Him.

Ruth: Redeemed To Become A Bride
The bible (OT/NT) is a document composed over a period of about 1600 years. The first portions dating back to 1400-1500 B.C. through to 90 A.D. It has been composed by multiple authors working together over many centuries with a consistent theme and purpose. These writers acted as human agents moved and directed by God through His holy spirit
Multiple periods of editorial organization went in to producing the ever expanding revelation. The final editing period was probably Ezra (scribe/priest) about 450 B.C. Moses is the first, another possible is Samuel.
What About Official NT Documents?
In 397 the Synod of Carthage confirmed as official the 27 books we now know as the NT (that would be the greek speaking orthodox church, which later split into the catholic and the orthodox groups).
Clearly, the NT also is a collection of writings from multiple authors and was put together by some sort of editor or editorial team (obviously the bible was edited throughout its history). But who edited the bible? Who gave them the authority? There are two theories I want to discuss.
-
The NT was put together through a gradual process of sifting and evaluating hundreds of available documents and letters, deciding which were the best… a couple hundred years. The main weakness is that it falls prey to accusations of personal/political agendas driving the project. (feminists for ex). The idea being that the strongest group (not necessarily the right group) won out and forced their stamp upon the western world… we’re right because we won. People continually keep trying to resurrect the supposed alternate version of the church’s writings (nag hammadi, the davinci code etc). 2 Thess 2:1-2 Paul predicted that this very thing would happen.

Now the one I prefer (also UCG)… that the apostles themselves (Paul, Peter, John) decided the final form and content of the NT. With John himself finishing the task and distributing the 27 book collection among the church.
Neither view has definitive proof. The first view that the NT was developed gradually is based on fallible human reasoning, biased history and very scanty evidence (if any). The second view, that the content of the NT was decided by the ones who wrote it…. Is based on the scriptures themselves. Although there is not much to go on what we do have from scripture itself is a much more satisfying answer.
2 Peter 3:16 Peter, during his own lifetime, speaks of Paul’s writings as scripture… “the scriptures” in the same category as the OT scriptures themselves.
Paul’s role: 2 Tim 4:13 this would be a strange request unless Paul was asking for copies of various letters to select from among them. For example Col 4:16 refers to a letter that was left out… so clearly some selection appears to have taken place. Presumably Paul’s selections were passed along to Peter and later to John. 2 Peter 1:12,15 how else could Peter ensure that the had a reminder of “these things” after his death?
Matt 24:35 Jesus words were to be preserved
Rev 22:18-19 John finished and distributed the complete 27 book collection to the church warning them not to take away of add to it.
The 397 Synod of Carthage was merely confirming as official (for the secular record) that this very collection John distributed is the authoritative bible.

The Gospel of Christ
The basis for charges of racism made against God and His word come from many different directions but revolve around a common theme: the establishment of Israel as God’s chosen people. In this way, critics portray the entire bible as based upon God’s favor of one race over others. Specific examples often cited include:
➤ God’s command to wipe out the Canaanites Deuteronomy 20:16-17 ➤ Religious exclusivity and forbidding intermarriage with other nations Numbers 25:1-3, Nehemiah 13:23-30 ➤ Jesus’ comments to a Canaanite woman Matthew 15:22-28
To some these are examples of racial preference found in scripture. Let’s see if we can learn a bit more about how God views different races and peoples using His word to guide us.

The return of Jesus Christ to rule as King of Kings will bring a change of leadership this world desperately needs. The governments, societies, religions, economies, sports of earth are still under the authority of Satan until he is removed. The annual biblical festival called the day of Atonement looks forward to this future event in human history.
To serve alongside Christ you must first learn important lessons about what it means to be a godly leader. The first step is to learn humility and fasting provides you with an excellent spiritual exercise to develop this new way of looking at life and leadership.
Note: this message was presented on the day of Atonement but is a message worth hearing at any time of the year because of it prophetic hope and encouragement.
