Matthew 5-31-32 - The righteous man does not harden his heart and so divorce his wife. Instead he commits himself to her for in Christ there is reconciliation, as Christ committed himself to you the church.
Ruth 2-14-23 - Find your hope in the kindness of God's Redeemer, who raises you from death to life to be an agent of His kindness.
The Sermon on the Mount - You are not even to look lustfully for the consequences is eternity in hell so you are to cut off that sin but only in Christ can you know forgiveness and victory.
Ruth - God's grace flows into your life in many ways but ultimately it comes to you through Jesus, God's Man of Excellence.
The Sermon on the Mount - Your every moment of anger makes you a murderer and so liable for judgment. In Christ you know reconciliation and so in Him you can reconcile even with your greatest enemy.
Ruth - God is always at work to accomplish His good purposes for, in, and through His people- see His gracious hand at work in your life.
The Sermon on The Mount - Jesus did not abolish the law but fulfilled the law so in Him you can be righteous and therefore obey God's law.
The Sermon on the Mount - You are the salt of the earth, the light of the world because Christ is both salt and light therefore in Him you are preserving this world from sin and shining the truth of Christ into this world.
Leviticus - Jesus pays all your debts and removes your guilt so you can live a -debt-free- life in Him-
Persecution is part of the Christian life so do not be surprised by it but rejoice for Jesus Christ was persecuted to bring you into his Kingdom so count it a privilege to share with him in his suffering.
Leviticus - Jesus is the answer to your ongoing problem with sin and its polluting effects.
Psalm 119- 169-176 - In the hard reality of life, Christ continues to deliver you by his word so respond with praise and prayer for he is your salvation.
Deuteronomy 12 - Do not bring the idols or worship of this world before God, but depend on Christ alone to come before the face of God.
The Beatitudes - In this broken world we need peace and that peace comes from the Prince of Peace, in Him you are to be agents of peace in this world.
The work of Jesus Christ gives you peace with the living God and access to all His blessings. Rejoice in Christ, your peace-
The Beatitudes - To see God you need a heart that is not divided but one that is pure, only Christ gives us this new heart to see God.
Jesus consecrates your life and work, so you can be used by Him - both now and forever, so commit yourself to His service with joy.
You are to show mercy to others, not by being soft on sin but in your readiness to forgive sin and sacrifice yourself for others because Christ has shown mercy to you.
Matthew 5-1-12-Pastor Philip McCollum--You are to desire righteousness, but only Christ is your righteousness, so desire Him to be filled and know blessing.
Leviticus 1-1-17-Pastor Rich Holdeman--Your access to God's favor and blessing comes through the radical sacrifice of Jesus- live for and worship God, leaning on your savior.
God has given you abundant reasons to praise Him- express your gratitude and in warfare.
Judges 21 - Praise God that His mercy to you in Jesus is greater than your futile efforts to -fix- yourself
Matthew 5- 1-12 - You know blessing when you have a true view of yourself, seeing yourself as undeserving both from God and man but in the end you inherit the earth, that's because Christ is the only true man of meekness.
The Beatitudes - Do not avoid mourning over your sin, for you are blessed as you mourn knowing that in Christ you have comfort and hope.
Happiness or blessedness is recognizing your humility before God which Christ demonstrated, and in so doing secured your place in His Kingdom
In the Midst of a collapsing society, your only hope is the Savior who perished in place of His people
Revelation - You are not to become complacent but be fully dependent on Christ for he wants in on your life for He loves you and seeks you to be zealous for Him.
Judges - Turn from the disaster of DIY religion to the grace and beauty of the one true King and Priest.
Revelation - Although you may be weak and even discouraged, remember in Christ you are eternally secure and so in Him you can persevere.
God so orchestrates your life that every, single thing that happens to you is designed for your ultimate, spiritual well-being and glory.
The Letters to the Churches in Revelation - You are to wake up from your complacency by remembering the gospel- otherwise you will not be ready for Christ's return and miss out on the promise of your name in the Book of Life.
Judges - The antidote for confusion in worship is to seek God through His great King, Jesus.
Letters of Revelation - You are not to tolerate sin but repent of it and instead hold on to the gospel for in Christ you will know his victory.
Judges - Keep fighting the good fight, knowing that God will never give up on His people.
Main Point - You are to be courageous in your faith in Christ but repent when you compromise with this world for Christ is the one who gives you manna, he satisfies and brings you into His kingdom.
Revelation - You are to see suffering as a test of your faithfulness to Christ but you are not to fear for He has promised you the crown of life.
Judges 16-1-22 - Beware the temptation of trying to serve God with divided loyalties- take heart that God will never abandon His true children even when they fall.
The Letters to the Churches of Revelation- --You are to be orthodox but do not lose your love for Christ for he has loved you and given you life.
You are not naturally the servant of God you should be, but you can rejoice that God transforms even reluctant servants into the kind of people He wants them to be.
Revelation - In your times of difficulty, you are to see Christ in His glorious splendor but also that He is near to you to encourage you to persevere.
Judges -Give thanks that God loves you enough to frustrate your efforts to avoid your calling.
You are to be single minded in your devotion to Christ and his word, for he is your refuge so fear him by crying out to him to uphold you.
The only solution to your struggles with spiritual apathy is turn to Jesus, the dedicated Servant of God.
Mark -- You are to move from fear and amazement to courage in Jesus Christ for He is risen and so in Him you have life.
Appreciate the fact that God is committed to blessing you even in the midst of the dysfunction that surrounds you.
Jesus received the curse for your sin so that you have access to the Father. In response, recognize that Jesus is the Son of God.
God mercifully overcomes your natural inclination toward division in order to build unity in His church.
Mark - Christ took your shame by bearing that shame on the cross as was prophesied in scripture so you are not to be ashamed of him.
Do not place your trust in yourself, or in others or in good times, instead place your trust in Jesus Christ for He is your substitute, He saves you from the death you deserve and instead gives you life.
God saves according to His perfect plan -not your expectation-. Find your identity in Jesus, and submit to us His will for your life.
Mark - Peter reminds you that even the strongest will buckle under trial and that's why Jesus is your Savior for only He withstood the trial triumphantly and so in Him there is forgiveness.
Mark - In the midst of betrayal and desertion, Christ trusts in God's plan and demonstrates love. When you kiss the Son, you also can show love to others in the midst of betrayal and desertion.
Judges - God is a glorious person to know and love and not a system to be manipulated- serve Him with reverence and godly fear-
Titus - God has cleansed all of your being, so let it all be governed rightly in service of your Savior.
Judges - Recognize that God graciously gives you times of refreshment just when you need them most desperately.
In a changing climate contend earnestly for the faith because Christ is your Lord, He will preserve you.
You have the privilege of participating in Christ's great work of undeceiving the nations- labor faithfully now and keep your eyes on His promises.
Mark - Jesus experienced great anguish for you to know the Father, you are to respond by watching and praying. But remember Christ alone was obedient, even unto death for your salvation.
God's word is certain, it sustains this world and it sustains you, and so in this world of uncertainty hold on to Christ the Word.
Mark - Do not put your confidence in yourself, instead place your confidence in -Christ for He is the Shepherd, in Him you are forgiven.
Judges - Rejoice in God's perfect justice but rejoice even more that you are a recipient of his grace-
Mark - Jesus in His sovereignty fulfills the Passover meal and you are to respond trusting Him for your rescue and look forward to His return.
Judges - Listen to God's gracious warning- turn away from evil and folly and toward your Savior.
Even in the midst of great darkness, look to Christ in order to shine the light of His kingdom.
Mark--You are to recognize Jesus not as mad or bad but as the Lord God and so you must do His will for Him you have freedom, forgiveness, and family.
1 Corinthians -- Your resurrection and victory over death is guaranteed by Jesus- live consistently today as one whose future is certain.
Matthew 13 -- Jesus allows evil to exist for a time for the sake of His elect, but rest assured that evil will be dealt with fully and finally and that His people will bask in His presence forever.
1 Corinthians -- The heart of the gospel is the death and resurrection of Jesus for sinners. Rejoice and believe in the good news about what Jesus has done for you.
Psalm 37 -- As a righteous man or woman, you are to live in this wicked world waiting on the Lord, keeping His was and trusting that you will inherit the land and this you do in Christ.
Mark -- Christ called men to know Him and make Him known so that you today can know Christ and also make Him known to those around you.
1 Corinthians -- A system of church government is only as effective as its practitioners, but Jesus' love never fails-
Mark -- God has given you the Sabbath Day to enjoy His rest and to do good. This rest points to the eternal rest and restoration you have in Christ.
Mark -- Your greatest problem is your need for forgiveness of your sins and Christ came to make that possible so you must respond by putting your faith in Him.
1 Corinthians -- Your participation in the worship of the church is to help build up the faith of your fellow believers while also calling unbelievers to faith in Jesus.
Mark -- Jesus is willing to cleanse you of your shame by putting himself in that position so that you can be clean before a holy God. This is the compassion you are to show to others.
1 Corinthians -- Love is the essential element of your life and ministry -- now and forever- love others as an extension of Jesus' perfect love for you.
Mark -- Christ's priority was to preach the Kingdom of God so that you identify Him as King and serve Him as a result.
1 Corinthians -- The faithful use of your gifts in the congregation will promote its unity and health.
Mark -- Christ came to proclaim the truth which exposes sin and so causes Satan to tremble, therefore embrace the truth as the weapon against Satan's lies.
1 Corinthians -- True diversity in the church is a gift of God- learn to appreciate and celebrate it as you should.
Mark -- Christ the King is here- respond to this good news by turning to him and surrendering to him.
1 Corinthians -- The Lord's Supper is a participation in the person and work of Christ, who has drawn you into a living fellowship with this body of believers. Proclaim the gospel to one another as you come to the table-
Mark -- Christ came to identify with your weakness, but also to share with you in His victory so you can be declared -Beloved of God.-
1 Corinthians -- Your goal in worship should be to draw attention to God and not to yourself, so come to God humbly seeking to glorify Him and to build up your fellow worshipers.
Mark -- Consider the significance of Jesus Christ coming into the world so that you repent of your sins and know the fresh start that he offers.
Jesus makes your ministry meaningful by applying God's eternal truths exactly when and where they are needed to fulfill His purposes.
God always keeps His promises in Jesus, and this allows you to wait for Him in hope even if your prayers seem to go unanswered.
The birth of Christ is good news for you, for in Christ, you are both saved and transformed.
Prophecies of the Coming Christ -- You have hope in the darkness, so persevere in your walk with God, for Christ is the victorious King.
Prophecies of the Coming Christ -- Christ came to give you his righteousness and so as a result you have a new identity for you are now in Christ and therefore secure before God.
In a world of toil and death, you can have peace and life through Jesus, the great Rest Giver.
Prophecies of the Coming Christ -- You are not to put your trust in the leaders of this earth. Instead, trust Christ, he is the shepherd king who will unite his people.
In Jesus you are participating in the greatest victory of all time- rejoice and join the battle.
Prophecies of the Coming Christ -- You are living in a dark world, but the light of Christ has come so you can have joy and peace.
Numbers -- When you consider the inheritance that you have received, you are to be generous to others but it's only in Christ that you can do this.
God uses trials to remind you that your life in this world is fleeting- set your hope on Jesus.
Numbers -- Christ is the city of refuge and in Him you find mercy- but in Him, you are to show mercy to this broken world.
1 Corinthians -- In matters of Christian freedom, your over-arching concern is to bring God glory by making choices that promote the spiritual health of other people.
Numbers -- Christ has rescued you from sin for you to live in your new inheritance by his strength.
1 Corinthians -- Things that seem spiritually -neutral- are often conduits evil. Wake up, stop playing with fire, and rest secure in your union with Jesus.
Numbers -- Your lack of commitment to God affects the unity of the church- instead, keep your eyes on Christ, for He was wholehearted in His commitment- and through Him you can commit, and so be united, to the church.
1 Corinthians -- Sin and temptation are always stalking you, but you can escape when you are tempted because Jesus endured spiritual danger for you.
Numbers -- God judges sin and since you are a sinner you too will be judged but in Christ you receive mercy and so respond with thanksgiving.
1 Corinthians -- Because Jesus won, you will win too, so live your life with discipline and purpose in Him.
Epochs of judgment and ruin establish a pattern foreshadowing the spiritual retribution of Jesus, yet because of His indestructible life we are saved from eternal destruction.
1 Corinthians -- You are free in Christ, but Jesus wants you to use your freedom for the sake of the gospel.
Numbers -- You and your family are to be distinct from this world in that you keep your word but thankfully Jesus is faithful to his word and so your confidence is in him.
1 Corinthians -- You need to be prepared to defend your rights in the public arena but also to give them up in your personal life for the sake of the gospel.
Numbers -- You relate to God through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ who is the ultimate pleasing aroma that enables you to have fellowship with God for in Christ, you too are a pleasant aroma.
1 Corinthians -- The primary motivation for your interactions in the church is to be Christ-empowered, selfless love for your brothers and sisters.
Numbers -- God is faithful to you His people- you will receive your inheritance because Christ your Saviour brings you there- walk faithfully in Him.
1 Corinthians -- By God's grace, learn how to think and act like a mature Christian so that you can serve Jesus without unnecessary distraction.
Numbers -- Do not be seduced by this world- instead be zealous for God, because Christ has atoned for your sins.
1 Corinthians --Because you belong to Jesus, you are free to serve Him in whatever circumstances you find yourself.
God speaks to you through his world and his word, but his word became flesh to redeem you so you know God.
Numbers -- As one of God's people you are blessed, you cannot be cursed because of Christ- therefore, approach God through Christ and know the blessings you have in him.
1 Corinthians -- Keep your marriage vows, even when it is difficult, and do so by the power of the perfect vow-keeper, Jesus Christ.
Numbers -- Beware of idols that promise blessing but only lead to curse- instead, Christ is the one who blesses, for he takes the curse so you are secure.
1 Corinthians -- You have a duty to honor God by being a faithful spouse within your marriage or by being a celibate single person outside of marriage.
The Lord's Prayer -- You yourself are too weak to resist temptation from your enemies, but God upholds and strengthens you, so you can firmly resist your enemies until the complete victory in Jesus Christ.
The Lord's Prayer -- As debtors to God, you need His forgiveness daily- Jesus Christ is the peacemaker who forgives you and enables you to forgive others.
Numbers -- Demonstrate your trust in God by singing, recognizing that Christ sings perfectly and so through him you praise God.
Numbers -- As you walk in the wilderness, there will be frustrations, but walk in faith- and when you doubt God, repent and look to Christ for your salvation.
The Lord's Prayer -- The will of God is only good for you, so you are to renounce your own will and obey the will of God in Jesus Christ, as willingly and faithfully as the angels do in heaven.
This sermon about God's call to His people to remember His works in Christ was delivered during the 200th anniversary celebration of the Bloomington Reformed Presbyterian Church.
The Lord's Prayer -- You have departed the kingdom of darkness, and you are to put all your strength for obtaining the Kingdom of God in Jesus Christ
1 Corinthians -- You are not your own- you belong to Jesus Christ so submit your will to His and serve Him with your body.
Matthew 6-9 -- Pray that the name of God would be glorified eternally, in all His words, in your life and in the person and work of Jesus.
Numbers -- Your God is a faithful God, do not forget Him and teach the next generation to go to Christ for the victory.
The Lord's Prayer -- Pray to your heavenly Father with reverence and confidence- you are to love Him and His family in Christ.
Numbers -- In your difficulty, do not be ungrateful, do not be angry- instead go to Christ -- in Him there are living waters to sustain you.
The Lord's Prayer -- Pray to your Father personally and simply, because He knows your need and will reward you openly in Christ.
Numbers -- You live in a sin-filled world, sin stops you from approaching God, you need the cleansing that comes from Christ so that you are presentable to God.
Numbers 18 -- You must approach our Holy God, only through Jesus Christ the great High Priest, and you are to support the proclamation of Christ as the only way to God.
1 Corinthians -- Seeking your own welfare at the expense of the church dishonors Jesus, but Jesus is greater than your sins and enables you to sacrifice on His behalf.
You are to admit to your rebellion- cry out to Jesus Christ who stood between the living and the dead, for only in Him is there new life.
Isaiah -- In order to enjoy the only source of genuine comfort in life, you must understand and respond to what Jesus has done for you.
1 Corinthians -- The health of the church and the honor of Jesus requires a robust yet loving approach to church discipline.
1 Corinthians -- The -authentic- Christian life is characterized by suffering and humiliation, but since it unites you to Jesus and His church, it is the most fulfilling life you can have.
Numbers -- You are to approach God only in the way that he determines which is through his Son, Jesus Christ, otherwise you will be judged.
Numbers 15 -- You are to remember that you are one of God's people. You enjoy fellowship with God through Christ's sacrifice atoning for your sin.
1 Corinthians -- You have the privilege of helping to build the church, the place of God's special presence on earth.
Numbers -- When your faith is rocked, do not doubt God, for He is with you- pray to God who is merciful and seek His glory through your interceder Jesus Christ.
1 Corinthians -- Take ownership of the spiritual ministry God has given you, working as a servant of Christ as He builds His church.
Numbers -- As one of God's children, God is on your side and so you are not to fear but walk in faith knowing that in Christ you have tasted the firstfruits of the Promised Land.
1 Corinthians -- In Jesus you have received life-transforming wisdom- rejoice in what you've been given and use it with humble confidence.
Numbers 12 -- Jesus Christ is the only interceder for you to approach God the Father but more than that, he deals with the sin itself.
1 Corinthians 2-1-5 -- The power of the gospel message is in the Spirit's work - not in the abilities of the messenger- trust the simple preaching of the cross of Christ.
1 Corinthians 1-26-31- Jesus gave up His status in the world to give you true status with God and to free you to live for Him-
Numbers -- When you grumble recognize that it is a serious sin, deserving of judgment- however, forgiveness is found in your interceder, Jesus Christ.
Numbers -- The Lord is with you and He guides you in every step of the journey so patiently obey His commands in the community of God's people.
The death and resurrection of Jesus gives spiritual life to all of His people. Put your faith in Jesus, die to yourself, and find life that will never end.
Numbers -- As you journey to the promised land, remember daily the confidence you have in Christ- he has won the victory and invites others to join you in your certain hope.
1 Corinthians -- The logic of God's plan of salvation is an offense to sinners so that your hope will be in God's power and wisdom and not in your own.
Numbers -- As one of God's redeemed people, you are to be committed to the worship of God but you live in a sinful world which can affect your commitment but remember God is gracious
1 Corinthians -- Church unity flows out of a right understanding of the gospel- turn away from the temptation of division and embrace unity in Christ.
1 Corinthians -- Learn to recognize and give thanks for the grace of Christ at work in the lives of His people.
Acts 5-1-11 -- Sin is a serious and constant threat to the church so be on guard at all times, but remember that Jesus protects His church.
Numbers -- As you walk in the wilderness remember God's revealed word - Jesus Christ is with you and you are to shine out that blessing of the atonement that Christ provides as you lay down your lives in service to him.
Numbers -- You are to respond to God's blessing by sacrificial giving to support the worship of God by his people. Christ made the ultimate sacrifice so you can truly worship God.
The ministry of Jesus means that you can never be accused before your Father in Heaven.
1 Corinthians -- Remember who you are in Christ, and seek, by His strength, to be the person He says you are.
Numbers -- As you walk through the wilderness you know the blessing of God through Jesus Christ.
Numbers -- You are to be committed in your service to God but only Christ is the perfect Nazirite, he fulfilled his vows and so in him you have salvation.
