The world has seen some rapid and troubling changes over the past few years. Violence, crime, lawlessness, division, wars, and hatred are all on the rise. And it's not just happening in certain nations—it's a global issue. So, what in the world is happening?

The answer to this burning question is found in the Bible. It's the only source of truth that helps us understand what's happening today and where it's all headed. About 25 percent of the Bible talks about the future from the time it was written, and it has a lot to say about where the world is ultimately headed.

In this series, we'll dive into what's happening now and what will happen in the future with Israel, the United States, the world, and God's plan for the end of this present age.

“Sorry, I can’t that day.”

“I have a lot on my plate.”

“I’m up to my eyeballs in work.”

Sound familiar? Sometimes it feels like no matter how hard we try, we can’t keep up with life’s demands and we can’t do anything to change it. But what if we changed our expectations around what’s truly important and what really lasts in God’s eyes? In this series, we’ll provide some important skills on how to live a less busy life and replace it with a more fulfilling one as we learn critically important biblical skills for breaking free from the “rat race” pace of life and take control of our time and our lives.

One of the most challenging leadership assignments is not leading a large-scale event, leading a team of people to climb Mount Everest, or leading through a difficult situation. It is self-leadership. In this series we will take a look at what the Bible has to say on the importance of self-leadership in three areas – physical, emotional, and relational health – and we’ll give you the tools to help you close the gap between who you are today and the person God created you to be.

Every good football team becomes great by learning the basics of the sport in training camp. They learn the plays, gain the conditioning, develop the strength, and build the teamwork necessary to develop the discipline needed to be champions. Like football teams, we can do the same for our spiritual life by putting into place the disciplines and training that God tells us will help us become champions for Him. By engaging in God’s spiritual training camp, we can reach our fullest potential to be victorious in all of life’s struggles. In this series, we’ll cover some of the most important as we begin the new year.

🎄 LEARN MORE about Christmas with Lakeshore at LakeshoreChurch.org/Christmas.

...

Every Christmas, we all look forward to opening gifts of all kinds. We look under the tree to find wrapped gifts just waiting to be opened. Deep down inside though, we hope for things that we really want. Sometimes we find them and other times we don’t. Regardless, rarely do any of these gifts make a true lasting change in our lives that will make Christmas all that we hope it will be in our hearts. Maybe that’s because they never can.

But there are gifts that come our way that can’t be bought in stores but only experienced in life, gifts that only God gives and people cannot. These gifts are truly lasting and life-changing because they're the only gifts God sends out to His people. In this series, we’ll explore three gifts God sent out surrounding the birth of Jesus Christ and how these same gifts (in different forms) can be ours as well. No matter what you find under your Christmas tree, God has gifts waiting for you if you will accept them.

Can you believe that, in 2023, we are fast approaching one billion people in our world who do not have enough food to eat? There are so many in our world who are facing critical food shortages and the results are devastating. Approximately 850 million people worldwide are estimated to be undernourished, and higher food prices threaten to increase it by another 100 million. That means nearly 1 in 8 people in the world today is hungry or starving. According to data from the United Nations, some 25,000 people die each day from hunger and related causes, including more than 10,000 children.

While no one can fully solve this problem alone, at Lakeshore Community Church we are working to do our part to combat this hunger epidemic. In this series, we’ll learn what God says about how we can help some people move from hunger to hope. We’ll also have an opportunity for everyone to practically do something to help people move from hunger to hope by being a part of the Feed My Starving Children food packing event, and financially supporting it through Making Waves 2024.

There are some people that just seem to suck the life out of us. Some are endlessly needy; others complain. Some you can’t trust because they’re manipulative, or just hypocrites. We know we’re supposed to love them, but honestly, sometimes it’s just plain difficult. In this series, we’ll be putting a name to this type of person: Relational Vampires. We’ll recognize that these people are all around us draining our energy, and that it’s easy to fall under their spell and become vampires ourselves. Instead of running from or fighting with these vampires, though, we will learn how God can use us to bring love into their lives.

The heart of the Christian message is the gospel. The gospel is literally, “The Good News” message that God wants everyone to hear and accept because it provides a way for people to be right with God through faith in His Son Jesus Christ. While the gospel is both important to understand and essential to live out, not enough people have a grasp on both of these important aspects of the gospel. In this series, we’ll explain what the gospel is (and isn’t), how responding to it is more than just a passport to heaven but a power for living, how to share it in ways that help people embrace it, and how God calls us to remember it regularly through communion. The gospel is Good News and the more we live for it, the more we’ll realize just how good it really is!

Many people long to live for God and yet wonder how they can know exactly how close they are to doing it. This raises questions like, “How can I know when I’m really living out the Christian life?” and, “Am I letting God work in my life to help me live for Him, and what are the indicators that let me know it’s happening?” Are there signs that indicate whether we are living out the Christian life? Are there markers that can measure how well we’re living it out?

The answer is that there are, and perhaps the best measure is found in a life that expresses the nine Fruit of the Spirit found in Galatians 5:22-23.

These nine attributes (or fruit) serve as proof of how effective we are at allowing God to work in our lives, and that’s because when we fully surrender to Him, these traits are expressed more clearly and strongly than when we don’t live for Him.

In this series, we will overview what the Fruit of The Spirit are, unpack how each of these nine fruit work, and explore how they can reveal how close we are to God and how well we’re allowing Him to work in our lives. When we embrace these fruit, we will live a Fruit(Full) life!

Have you ever been in a rush to get somewhere, only to be stuck behind someone in traffic who clearly is not in the same hurry as you are? Talk about a test of patience, right? Of course, sometimes the tests are more serious and require a great deal on our part of trusting in God's perfect timing. Are there situations in your life that you've had to lean on His timing for, putting your patience to the test?

Pastor Frank De Luccio will lead us in Part 5 of our Fruit(Full) series as we look at what it means to have biblical patience and learning to become a more patient person.

Joy; it can be the most elusive thing we ever chase, yet everyone chases it. It can be here today and gone tomorrow. For some, joy is a rare occurrence. Others seem to live in a constant state of joy. It should come as no surprise that what we believe about God will seriously impact the joy we experience here and now.

Can you imagine a Christmas more hectic and stressful than yours, one that was shocking, life-changing, and so out of your control? Imagine an angel telling you that you’d soon give birth to a son who was conceived miraculously and already assigned a name? Imagine discovering your fiancée was pregnant without your involvement? Imagine discovering that the baby would be delivered alongside farm animals, and not in a hospital? And imagine that child being the Savior of the world?

If we don’t see things in this way, we miss out on the fullness of what we’re looking at. The same applies to the essential truths of Christianity. We must see the Christian faith from a 3D perspective to fully appreciate it and enjoy it to the fullest. There are so many problems in the world today. While there are many causes, it all really comes down to one fundamental reason for it: most people do not truly understand or embrace the One, True God. Research shows that most people have an extremely inaccurate view of God, which is not too surprising. Of more concern is that a significant percentage of Christians (and even Christian leaders in the church) have erroneous views of God as well. When our view of God is wrong, our view of the rest of life will be as well. In this series, we’re out to help change this by explaining who God really is in His essential character. We’ll look at eleven of His most important attributes and explain how each one can play a critical role on how we live a life that glorifies God and satisfies us. And when we apply them in our lives, we’ll have a greater appreciation of the true greatness of God.

We’ll also talk about how to avoid the five biggest factors that hinder our prayers from being answered as we ask.

In Part 2 of The Power of Prayer, we'll continue by looking at “The Principles of Prayer”. How should we pray? That’s a question that was asked of Jesus by His disciples and the answer that He gave them has led to the most recited prayer in Christianity. What does it teach us about how to pray prayers that are balanced and pleasing to God?

Have you ever given someone a present and they didn’t open it? Like, they left it wrapped and never opened it. How did that make you feel? Probably not that great. How about when you give someone a gift, they open it, and begin using it right away. That probably made you feel great! In Part 2, we’ll be taking a look at the spiritual gifts that God gave us and how He wants us to use them to fulfill the good works which He prepared in advance for us to do.

Have you ever tried something for the very first time and hated it? We all have. But, have you ever tried something for the very first time and said, “I WAS MADE FOR THIS!”? That “something” is what many people search for their whole lives.

What if you discovered that God made you for a specific “something”, gave you every ability and talent needed to accomplish that “something”, and wants you to fulfill that “something” for Him? In this series, “I Was Made for This”, we’ll take a look at what the Bible has to say regarding how we were created, gifted, and called for that unique “something” (based on Ephesians 2:10), and how you can discover and use that something for God, for others, and for yourself.

So many churches talk about being baptized into the church but have no real biblical backing for this biblical concept. In our final part of this series, working from Galatians 3:23-29 (and a few other texts), Pastor Vince will explain the two different kinds of baptism found in the New Testament and how each one plays a role in our life in the church.

Another reason to love the church is that when we are a part of it (that is, the capital “C”, universal, invisible Church), we are guaranteed victory in our faith in Jesus. How so? In what ways will we experience victory? And how do we live well so that we can have the greatest victory possible?

In Part 6, we’ll answer all these questions from an amazing text in 1 Corinthians 15:50-58.

Another reason to love the church is that we can worship the God who seeks our worship together. Can you worship God alone? Absolutely! You can do it in a prison cell, when you're out for a walk, and when you drive your car (I recommend you keep your eyes open though). But God also created us to worship Him with others—it’s called 'corporate worship'! In fact, there are things that God does in our corporate worship that He does not do in our personal, private worship and they are critical!

In Part 5 of "Why I Love the Church", we’ll see just how important worship together as an entire church family really is.

In Part 4, we’ll look at another reason to love the church: “Because We Get To Give Back To It”. It’s somewhat surprising that God entrusts us with the resources to support His church. Why would He do that? Couldn’t He just fund it out of His own amazing riches and wealth? Of course He could, but He chooses to allow us that privilege. Why? We’ll learn at least 5 reasons why in Part 4 as we look at 2 Corinthians 8:1-15.

Jesus said that it is more blessed to give than receive, even if most Americans don’t live that way. Find out why Jesus’ words are as true today as they were when He said them 2,000 years ago.

In Part 2, we'll continue our series by looking at a second big reason to love the church: “Because We Get to Be a Part of It”. It’s amazing to think that when Jesus promised the church (Matthew 16:15-18) and then birthed the church (Acts 2), He did so knowing that there was so much for the church to do. As a result, He revealed His plan to give every Christian spiritual gifts to be used in strategic ways. We’ll talk about how using a passage from 1 Corinthians 12.

It’s a privilege and joy to use our gifts in the church for God and for others. And just like hearing the words from a coach on a sports team say to us, “Okay, get in the game!”, there is an excitement that comes with getting involved for those who love Jesus and His beautiful creation, the church!

The church is a lot of things to a lot of people. Some it see it as a beneficial and life-transforming place of hope, while on the other side of the continuum others see it as an annoying and persistent nuisance to societal progress. The truth is that when the church is properly seen in the way that Jesus Christ intended when He created it, and when the church lives up to the standards that He designed for it, nothing is better! In this series, we’ll explain the reasons why Jesus created the church, why it is so stunningly beautiful when it’s at its best, and discover how we can all grow personally, be a part of its ultimate victory, and play a part in making it the salt of the earth, the light of the world, and the city on a hill that will help others see why the church is a place they can love!

As another year ends and a new one begins, it’s a great time to reevaluate life and see if the life we’re living is the life we really want. Too many people simply exist or endure life but fail to realize the key to enjoying life. We’ll talk about that as we look at the life-learnings of Israel’s third king, Solomon, in the Old Testament book of Song of Solomon. We’ll also look at some steps to take to learn how to really start living the way Jesus calls us to in John 10:10. If you need a minor (or major) course correction for your life in the new year, you’ll learn how in this series.

We will look at the many ways He has impacted both our world and our country. We’ll also look at how Jesus' first visit to earth can prepare us for our return to visit Him. When we realize how much Jesus has changed the world, both universally and individually, we will have a greater love and appreciation for His greatness.

So many people say things like, “I’ve just gone through hell these past few days”, or “life is hell”, or worse tell people to go to this aforementioned place. I wonder if they realize what hell is really like and how what we’re experiencing today in the world is nothing compared to the worst period of time that will ever inflict the earth. That time is called the Tribulation, a seven year period in which you could accurately say that it will be hell on earth. The Bible tells us that nothing will be as bad as this period of time. You can read about it in Revelation 6-19, that infamous last book of the Bible.

During this message, I will share how this period begins, what the first half of the seven years is like, what changes at the 3.5 year mark, and how the last 3.5 years bring both difficult times and the return of Jesus. You’ll learn about the “mark of the beast” and so much more. In fact, if you’re a Christian, the Bible mentions you and what you’ll do at the end of this 7 year period. Let’s just say that nothing cooler could possibly happen in your life!

I want you to be prepared for this difficult time in history.

We will continue our new series by looking at “How The End Begins”. That title is a little tricky, so to clarify we’ll be studying what the Bible says about the very first event that begins the end of the world as we know it. What is it? It is the Rapture, a very misunderstood moment in history when the world will change in an instant. How will the world change instantly? What is the rapture? Who will it affect? When will it happen with respect to the other events described in the future and is it different than the return of Jesus to earth?

We’ll answer all these questions and more by looking at key passages on this fascinating, world-altering event.

How close are we to the end? This is a challenging question to answer, but the Bible gives us enough information to start to answer this question. And most importantly, what God wants us to do as we get closer and closer to the day it all ends.

On Sunday, I will wrap up our series “We Need Each Other” by looking at “The Changed Lives We Need”. In Acts 2:42-47, our foundational verse for this series, we see that not only did the early church Christians experience “community” and “care”, they experienced “changed-lives” through Bible study. I’ll explain where and how this third “C” occurs in the church and how it can help you change what needs changing in your life. We’ll also talk about how plugging into a small group this Fall as they begin can help you grow and experience life change.

We all need care from others and we all need to care for others. Sometimes we are the ones who are hardened by sin’s deceitfulness. Sometimes we are the ones to gently restore those who have been hardened. Sometimes we express care by helping others with their burdens. Sometimes they are the ones helping us with our burdens. Whatever life brings us, we are called by God to live life by receiving and giving care to each other. This week we will talk about our God-given responsibilities to care for each other and how we have an opportunity for everyone to experience care at Lakeshore.

America was founded on the concept of individuality and in so many ways that is a good thing. Individualism helps us realize our unique personal desires, freedoms, preferences, and dreams which allow us to be all that we can be. But could it be that we are so individualistic that we have forgotten how much we need each other and how being in community with others builds our lives? In the early church, followers of Jesus Christ hung tight, grew together, supported each other, and encouraged each other because it was a matter of survival in light of the adversity they faced. Today, we need each other as much as the early church did back then, and in this series (based on Acts 2:42-47) we will share how we all need community with others, care flowing to and from others, and life-change through Bible study that can comes when we meet together. We’ll also kick off small groups and help everyone at Lakeshore find one that helps meet their needs for community, care and changed lives.

The mantra that keeps coming to the surface with this summer series is the idea that emotions should act as indicators and not guides. So true! When we allow our emotions to drive our decisions, that’s when we find ourselves in trouble.

But this begs the question…what happens when we are past that? What happens when we either miss or ignore the indicators, or did use them as guides, and now we are stuck, overwhelmed, and feeling hopeless? Enter the reality of depression. As someone who has struggled with depression all my life, I am all too familiar with it. But through a lot of prayer, support and professional help, I have learned that while we may never be able to fully defeat it, we can absolutely deal with it. King David was someone who struggled too. Can’t wait to see you this Sunday at 9 or 11 as we dig into this!

That’s why this week we are going to talk about Redirecting Rejection. There is way to redirect it, especially if we know that the rejection is because we are doing what God is asking of us.

The last 17 hours of Jesus Christ’s life on earth leading up to His crucifixion were the most agonizing anyone has ever lived through. Beginning with His prayer to God the Father to prepare for what He was about to go through on Thursday night, all the way through His six hours on the torturous cross on Friday, Jesus was taxed and tested physically, relationally, mentally, morally and (most significantly) spiritually like no one else. While many have speculated theories as to why this happened, we will explore the ultimate reason: this happened so that Jesus could satisfy the righteous demands of God the Father and offer us both a rescue from our sin and a model to follow in our life. Thankfully, Jesus validated this truth by rising from the dead on Easter Sunday! We will examine the sacrifice of Jesus so that we can have this same rescue from our own sin and find the perfect model to live by when we suffer hardship in our own lives.

When it comes to money, few of us received much instruction on how to handle it, manage it, earn it, save it, or spend it. Apart from a few talks from our parents, we likely didn’t receive training on personal finances in school, at work, or anywhere else. Instead we often learn how from trial and error— and often a lot more trials result from our errors than is really necessary. For something that plays such a large role in our lives, that’s a tragedy!

The good news is that God offers us comprehensive teaching on how to make sense out of money, and it can radically improve how we handle it when we put it into practice. In this series, we will look at some of them using some of the over 2,300 verses on money in the Bible to help you develop a strategy to make the most sense out of your money.

It’s fair to say that 2020 has been a challenging year for the world in so many ways. But thank God that every 365 days (366 days in a leap year) He offers us a new year to start fresh and experience His new mercies. The real question is this: what will we do with the gift of a brand new year? While we won’t be able to control everything, we will talk about the two most important things we can control to make 2021 better than any year before it: our attitude and our actions. In this series we will talk about both to help you develop both for the year ahead.

Every year it seems stores begin promoting Christmas decorations earlier and earlier in an attempt to beat their competitors in sales. While unintended, it gets many of us thinking about Christmas and all that we hope will happen on the day of Christ’s birth. But while the anticipation for what this day and the season surrounding it will be like for us, it leaves many people unchanged and wishing for more when it arrives. The good news is that God wants us to have so much more this Christmas if we will anticipate it for what it really is. In this series, we will look at how this Christmas can fulfill all our anticipations as we look at the promises God made and kept on Christmas, and how we can seek and find the heart of Christmas through the One who was born and can satisfy us.

Our world has faced an acute collection of needs since Adam and Eve defied God and ate of the forbidden fruit. Today, our world is continuing its dissent into what is now an obvious and serious set of needs.

Relationally, while we are in one sense closer to each other through technology, we’re living through record-high levels of relational animosity and strife in families, communities, and in the world.

Spiritually, while the number of Bibles printed are staggering, there is still a famine of hearing God’s Word to us, especially hearing and appreciating His message of the Gospel and eternal life.

Financially, while the world is abundant in food production, medical technology, and wealth, it is so unevenly distributed and uncharitably hoarded that those in need still die of hunger, disease, and utter hopelessness.

Into this present crisis, God has called the church and individuals in it to help our world so that as many people as possible are helped, God is honored, and we are filled with the satisfaction of meeting needs. While we will never fully meet every need in the world, we are called to meet some of them and we’ll learn how in this important series.

In this series, we will look at the biblical concept of hope, how it can help your life especially in down times, reasons why you should put your hope in God, and practical ways to build up this kind of hope in your life. We all need hope to cope and this series will help you learn how.

There are moments in life in which we are faced with a critical decision of whether to stay in our current state or move forward into a new future that is filled with both potential risk and significant reward. The choice we make determines how significant a life we lead. Nearly 3,500 years ago Moses and the people of Israel were faced with the same decision: to stay in Egypt where they were in the familiar land and condition of slavery or to move out of Egypt to a land of promise that God said they would enter. In this series, we will look at the life of Moses and the people of Israel, how they wrestled with this decision, decided to move forward, and experienced the lessons of moving forward and how they can help us learn how to move forward in our own lives. With all that is going on in our world today, we have to decide whether we will move forward and how we should do it so that we enter our own promised land. And the story of the Exodus will help provide us with the courage and the strategy to do it well!

Have you ever asked "Where is God"? Whenever life is at its most challenging, people are likely to ask deep questions about God. And one of the biggest questions people ask is where God is in their challenge. But the truth is God is still the same no matter what happens in our lives. He is always there for us when we are confused by His apparent silence and inactivity, and He is working for our good in ways that may not be clear or obvious to us.

In this series, we will look at biblical characters in both the Old and New Testaments who worked through some of the same challenges and crises we face today, and we’ll learn how God never left them and was actually at work in their lives to work all things out for their good. We’ll also provide principles that will help you see God at work in your challenges and how you can live strong because of it.

Since the Covid-19 virus has caused our country to change so radically over these past few weeks, my curiosity kicked into overdrive as I listened for how people would talk and live in response. Some of the responses (like being afraid) were obvious and to be expected. Some other responses were more subtle to discern. And still others weren’t even shared by people themselves because they don’t fully understand them. They know something is missing. They know there has to be something more, something greater than all of this. But sometimes they can’t put their finger on it.

The series “Living In Light Of A Global Crisis,” will address eight of our biggest needs, including those we know or maybe don’t even know are important yet, but still need.

There are only three things that are eternal: God, His Word (the Bible), and people. The wisest people are those who spend their life pursuing the intersection of these three eternal things. When we love God, pursue His Word, and care about people, they intersect in one clear endeavor: investing in and inviting people to know God through His Son Jesus Christ so they can spend eternity in heaven with Him. In this series, we will look at why people matter to God, how to invest in the lives of people and invite them to take steps of faith so that they can spend eternity with God.

Many people spend much their lives trying to get more money and possessions and very little of their time thinking about giving it away. And yet, all the research shows that the happiest people are the most generous. Why is that true? Perhaps Jesus said it best when He said, “It’s more blessed to give than receive”. Using the story of Paul’s appeal to the Corinthians in 2 Corinthians 8-9, we will explore the power of generosity and how being generous can bring you a joy you never thought was possible.

The goal of every church should be to be both bigger and smaller…all at the same time! How does that happen? While it sounds like a contradiction, in reality both can and should happen together. When both happen, Sundays get bigger and more small groups form… all at the same time! We’ll explain how each works and also celebrate our new children’s and student ministry buildings as we talk about the “generation of the present”, our children.

The Declaration of Independence is one of the most important documents in the history of the United States. It was an official act taken by all 13 American colonies in declaring independence from British rule in the summer of 1776. The final draft of the Declaration of Independence was adopted on July 4, 1776, but the actual signing of the final document was on August 2, 1776. Writing and signing the Declaration of Independence took courage, but it was an important step in the founding of our government. While declaring our independence as a nation has proven to be a great decision, the exact opposite decision is needed to find and maintain our freedom as a follower of Jesus Christ: we need a declaration of "dependence" on God's grace. In Pauls' letter to the Galatian church, we'll learn how to be free and stay free in Jesus when you declare your dependence on Him and on His grace.
