On this edition of Diamonds in the Desert, Jordan Hamm is joined by Cory Hahn to discuss Dingers in the Desert. The event is in its second year and supports Project 34, a charity founded by Hahn and Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Trevor Williams. The two were roommates at Arizona State when Hahn suffered a spinal cord injury in 2011. Now, Project 34 helps the over 285,000 people in the United States with spinal cord injuries.
Dingers in the Desert is a home run derby featuring plenty of baseball players with Arizona ties including Pirates shortstop Cole Tucker, who played his high school ball at Mountain Pointe High School, and Pirates infielder Kevin Newman, who played at the University of Arizona. The list also features longtime Major League outfielder Kevin Pillar.
Hahn discusses how the foundation has grown in the last year, working within the Diamondbacks organization and how he hopes to see Project Thirty Four grow in the future.
The event is at 11 a.m. at Grand Canyon University, and will feature the derby, as well as auction items that benefit Project Thirty Four.
