On this episode of the Intentional Leadership Podcast, we go deep with Aaron Newcomb, co-founder of Engedi Refuge, a holistic restoration program for survivors of sex trafficking. Aaron breaks down what most people miss: this isn’t a one-night safe bed problem — it’s complex trauma that requires long-term, whole-person care.
We unpack Engedi’s three-phase, ~18-month path: Phase 1 (safety and stabilization), Phase 2 (independent living skills, sober supports, work readiness), and Phase 3 (spiritual growth and peer mentoring). Aaron shares why distancing from traffickers, simplified phones, trauma-focused therapy, addiction support, and real-world structure matter, and how this approach delivers a 90% success rate (far above typical programs). We also compare costs (Engedi ≈ $7.5k/month vs. $30k–$56k/month alternatives) and discuss scaling this model community by community across the U.S.

It's Graham, and today on the Intentional Leadership Podcast, I had a truly mind-bending conversation with Dr. Don Wood, founder of the Inspired Performance Institute. If you've ever felt stuck, held back by past experiences, or just want to tap into a higher level of performance, you absolutely need to hear what Dr. Wood has to say. Dr. Wood's journey is unique – he didn't set out to be a doctor. His driving force was to literally save his daughter's life from debilitating autoimmune diseases that conventional medicine couldn't cure. This quest led him down a path of groundbreaking research into trauma, the brain, and our DNA, ultimately developing a revolutionary approach called the "TIP method." In this episode, Mind Reboot: Dr. Don Wood on Trauma, Performance & DNA Healing, we dive deep into how unresolved trauma can create "glitches" in our system, leading to issues like depression, anxiety, addiction, and even physical pain. If you're a high-achieving leader who constantly feels the pressure to hustle, hustle, hustle, get ready for a powerful new perspective on something we often neglect: rest. In this episode, Strategic Rest in Leadership: Dr. Erin Wilson's Key to Thriving Teams, we also explore the crucial difference between conflict and opposition in team dynamics, and how understanding motivations (people, performance, or process?) can transform your communication and influence.

As a business leader, your time and energy are your most valuable assets. But how often do you find yourself feeling depleted, overwhelmed, and pulled in a million different directions? It's a common struggle for driven individuals, and it often stems from a lack of healthy boundaries. In this week's Intentional Leadership episode, Boundaries for Bold Leaders, Graham and I dive deep into the world of boundaries and how they can empower you to lead with greater confidence and authority. You say "yes" when you really want to say "no," you overcommit, and you allow others to dictate your priorities. But this pattern can lead to burnout, resentment, and diminished effectiveness as a leader. What if you could reclaim your time and energy, and lead with greater focus, clarity, and presence? When you have clear boundaries, you command respect and create a culture of accountability. You'll also improve your decision-making and productivity by protecting your time and energy, creating space for strategic thinking and focused action.
We all have those moments where something happens that just pushes your buttons and sends you spiraling into anger. Maybe it's a frustrating phone call, a conflict with a colleague, or a situation that feels completely out of your control. Your heart starts racing, your face gets flushed, and you feel that surge of energy that makes you want to scream, yell, or maybe even throw something (though I don't recommend that last one!). In my latest podcast episode, Simple Ways to Cope With Anger, I'll teach you exactly what to do when anger strikes. It can be tough to know how to respond in a way that's both productive and healthy. We might react impulsively, say things we regret, or make decisions that we later wish we could take back. But here's the thing: it's possible to navigate those moments with grace and intention, even when we're feeling fired up. It's crucial to remember that you are not your anger. You are not defined by your emotions. You have the power to choose how you respond to them.
As Thanksgiving approaches, I'm reminded of the importance of consciously choosing gratitude, even on the days when it feels particularly challenging. In this week's Press Pause - Why Gratitude is the SECRET to a More Positive Life in 2024, you will lean how being grateful isn't just for moments of success or joy. Gratitude a tool that can profoundly shift your perspective during times of stress, uncertainty, or even disappointment. You can choose to recognize the value in every experience, finding lessons in the challenges, and seeing the growth in the setbacks. This approach can transform your mindset. When you choose gratitude when it doesn't come naturally you aren't ignoring the difficulties or pretending everything is perfect. Instead you are acknowledging your experience and still finding elements to be thankful for. As you approach this Thanksgiving, I encourage you to reflect on the moments that have tested your resolve. Look for the hidden gifts in these challenges. Share your gratitude with those who have stood by you, and remember, the choice to be grateful is yours.

Imagine starting each day feeling energized, focused, and in control. It might sound too good to be true, but I've discovered a simple practice that can make a world of difference in how you approach your day. In my newest podcast episode, Do This Every Morning: How to Feel Energized, Focused, and In Control, I talk about the importance of a powerful morning routine. It's all about taking a mindful moment every morning to check in with yourself – your mind, your body, and your soul. It's about becoming aware of your thoughts, your emotions, and your physical sensations so you can truly understand what's going on inside. I used to jump out of bed and rush into my day, never really taking the time to connect with myself. But once I started incorporating this mindful moment into my morning routine, everything changed. I became more aware of my thoughts and emotions, more in tune with my body, and more connected to my spiritual center.
Did you know that those first 60 minutes of your day can make all the difference in setting yourself up for success? It's true! And no, you don't have to wake up at the crack of dawn, do a crazy workout, or chug a protein shake to make it happen (though if that's your jam, go for it!). In our newest podcast episode, 14-Day Morning Routine Challenge, I'm going to share a fun challenge that will help you revamp your morning routine and create a powerful ritual for success. We'll explore simple yet effective habits that can transform your mornings and set you up for a day of productivity, joy, and fulfillment. We'll talk about everything from cultivating a sense of gratitude and prioritizing quiet time to setting clear intentions and fueling your body with nourishing foods. It's all about creating a morning routine that works for you – one that energizes you, sets your intentions for the day, and helps you tackle your goals with clarity and focus. Have you ever been watching your favorite sports team, and they're losing with just minutes left on the clock? Suddenly, they kick into high gear, playing with a newfound sense of urgency and determination. It's like they flipped a switch and started playing to win instead of just trying not to lose. That got me thinking... how do we show up in our own lives? Are we playing it safe, avoiding risks, and just hoping to get by? Or are we going all-in, embracing challenges, and striving for victory? The truth is, most of us have a natural tendency to play not to lose. We want to protect ourselves from failure, disappointment, and pain. But this mindset can keep us stuck in our comfort zones, preventing us from reaching out full potential. Imagine what your life and business could look like if you shifted your focus from avoiding failure to pursuing success with unwavering determination. Imagine the possibilities that would open up if you embraced challenges as opportunities for growth and learning. In my newest podcast episode, The Winner Effect, we're going to explore the powerful concept of "playing to win" and how it can transform your mindset and your results. We'll dive into practical exercises and strategies from my book, The Success Lie, that can help you shift from a fear-based mindset to one of optimism and possibility.
Today we're tackling a topic that's both exciting and a little daunting: selling your business. I've invited Shane Jansen, Vice President of Alexander Hutton, to join me and share his expertise in mergers and acquisitions. Shane's been guiding business owners through this complex process for years, and he's got some invaluable insights to help you maximize your success. The thought of selling your business might conjure up images of dollar signs and a life of leisure, but it's a journey that requires careful planning and a deep understanding of the M&A landscape. Shane's here to break it all down in my newest episode, Cashing Out, from figuring out what your business is truly worth to finding the right buyer who aligns with your values and vision. We'll explore the nitty-gritty of preparing your business for sale, including how to present your financials in the most favorable light and what key factors can boost your company's value. But we won't shy away from the emotional side of things either. After all, selling a business can be like saying goodbye to a child you've nurtured and grown. Shane will share his strategies for navigating those emotions and ensuring a smooth transition for both you and your team. And what about life after the sale? We'll dive into that too, discussing how to plan for your next chapter and find purpose and fulfillment beyond the business you've built.
Watching our daughter embark on a new adventure of her life has me thinking about growth and change. It feels like just yesterday she was a little baby, and now she's starting her own family in a new city! It's a beautiful reminder of how quickly life moves and how important it is to make the most of every moment. Kids, they grow automatically. One minute they're crawling, the next they're walking, and talking. It's amazing to witness! But as adults, we often forget that growth doesn't just happen on its own anymore. We get caught up in the routines and responsibilities of life, and before we know it, years have passed without us really evolving or making progress towards our dreams. If you're truly thriving in your life and leadership, it's because you're doing one crucial thing: being intentional. It's about recognizing that personal and professional development don't happen by accident. It takes conscious effort, focus, and a willingness to step outside of our comfort zones. Think about it - when was the last time you actively sought out a new challenge, learned a new skill, or pushed yourself beyond your limits? If it's been a while, you might be Living on Automatic™️, letting life happen to you instead of actively creating the life you want. In my newest podcast episode, What Great Leaders Actually Do, we're going to dive deeper into this concept of intentional living, We'll explore how to break free from autopilot and start creating the life you truly desire. I'll share some powerful insights and practical strategies from my book, The Success Lie, that can help you identify areas where you might be stuck and create a roadmap for intentional growth.

Welcome back to another exciting episode of the Intentional Leadership Podcast. On today's episode Graham and I will be talking about the idea of reclaiming joy in your life. Have you ever been in a stressful situation and found yourself holding your breath?
Shallow breathing or even holding your breath is actually quiet common and many of us do it without even realizing it's happening.
That's why today I am excited to share a transformative breathing practice that can make a significant difference in your life - and it only takes a few minutes.
It's called ocean breathing, also known as Ujjayi Pranayama breath in yoga, and let me tell you, it's truly remarkable how something so simple can have such a profound impact on your well-being.
Ocean breathing, is a powerful technique aimed at calming both the body and mind.
By engaging in this practice, you can stimulate the vagus nerve, which plays a crucial role in relaxation and stress reduction.
The beauty of this breathing technique lies in its simplicity and accessibility.
You can incorporate this practice into your daily routine, whether you're at home, in the office, or even on-the-go. It requires no special equipment or prior experience—just a few moments of your time and a willingness to prioritize your well-being.
If you're curious to learn more about oceanic breathing and experience its benefits firsthand, tune in to my latest podcast episode.
Welcome to today's episode of Press Pause! Today, Graham and I are kicking things off with a dose of positivity, something we could all use a little more of, don't you think? I truly believe in the power of starting the day on a positive note. It's easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of life, focusing on the challenges and setbacks. But taking a moment to acknowledge the good things in your life can make a world of difference. Think about it: as a high-achieving entrepreneur, you're often wired to fixate on what's not going well. Shifting your mindset towards positivity can be a game-changer. It sparks creativity, boosts productivity, and sets the stage for more effective decision-making. One of my favorite practices is starting meetings with a "Tell Me Something Good" session. It's a simple yet powerful way to kick things off on the right foot, fostering a sense of optimism among team members. And it's not just in the workplace where this practice can make a difference. Whether it's with family, friends, or even texting your buddies, taking a moment to share something positive can brighten someone's day and lift their spirits.
Welcome back to another exciting episode of the Intentional Leadership Podcast. On today's episode Graham and I will be talking about Feeling Burned Out Helping Others? You Might Have Compassion Fatigue. As someone who values empathy and compassion deeply, this topic hits close to home for me. You see, over the past year, I have experienced firsthand the toll that caregiving and supporting loved ones can take on our own well-being. The passing of my father and the responsibility of caring for my mother left me feeling exhausted, both physically and emotionally. Initially, I attributed this fatigue to grief, but upon learning about compassion fatigue, I realized that it encapsulated exactly what I was experiencing. It was a poignant moment of recognition for me, highlighting the toll that caring for others can have on our own health and vitality. Compassion fatigue manifests in various ways, from feelings of apathy and disengagement to physical symptoms like headaches and sleep disturbances. It's a silent struggle that often goes unrecognized, but it's essential that you acknowledge its presence and take proactive steps to address it. So, what can you do if you find yourself grappling with compassion fatigue?

If you're unfamiliar, "macros" refer to the macronutrients your body needs in significant amounts to function optimally: carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. Despite believing we were consuming a balanced diet, Graham and I soon discovered that there was much we were overlooking. What began as a curious exploration quickly morphed into a profound learning experience about our bodies' needs and how we could meet them more effectively. This journey isn't about restriction or deprivation but about empowerment and fine-tuning your nutrition to fuel your body optimally. It's about moving beyond the generic advice and tailoring your diet to your unique physiological needs. Whether you're a seasoned health enthusiast or someone looking to make more informed choices about your nutrition, this podcast is for you.

Today, I want to share with you a powerful practice that has profoundly impacted my life and the lives of many I coach: a mindset reset through breathwork.
In your journey as a leader or entrepreneur, you may encounter moments that challenge your mental and emotional balance. Sometimes, these moment can leave you entangled in a web of negative thoughts.
It's during these times that the power of a positive mindset becomes not just beneficial, but essential.
The transformative tool of breathwork for a mindset reset is about more than just taking a few deep breaths. It's a deliberate method to shift from a negative to a positive mindset, harnessing the power of your breath.
The beauty of this exercise is in the simplicity and immediacy. Whenever you find yourself caught in a spiral of negative thinking, pause. Take a moment to engage in this breathwork practice.
By controlling your breath, you gain control over your thoughts, steering them away from negativity and towards positivity and clarity.
Where ever you find yourself this Christmas - loving every minute or struggling to get through - there's an unspoken visitor you may encounter: fatigue. In my journey as an entrepreneur and leader, I've learned that fatigue is more than just a physical sensation; it's a multi-sense experience that can drain your emotional and mental energy, particularly during this busy time of year. The causes of fatigue are as varied as they are complex, ranging from the relentless pursuit of professional goals to the personal demands of the holiday season. It's crucial to acknowledge the presence of fatigue in your life. It's not uncommon to find yourself feeling unexpectedly worn out, despite the merriment around you. This can stem from the end-of-year business rush, the pressure of holiday preparations, or even the emotional weight of reflecting on another year passing. In the newest episode of the Intentional Leadership Podcast, Graham and I will be exploring the different aspects of fatigue that you, as business leaders, often face. We'll dive into identifying the unique causes in your life, understanding how they impact your well-being, and most importantly, discussing strategies to combat and navigate fatigue effectively.
As Thanksgiving approaches, I'm reminded of the importance of consciously choosing gratitude, even on the days when it feels particularly challenging.
In this week's Press Pause - Gratitude is Your Choice, you will lean how being grateful isn't just for moments of success or joy.
Welcome back to another exciting episode of the Intentional Leadership Podcast. I'm excited to touch on a topic that is fundamental to your success, yet often neglected in the hustle of your life - your health. Being a business leader is exhilarating, yet it comes with its unique challenges. With all of your responsibilities, the deadlines and decisions, your health often takes a backseat. In fact, in a recent poll of high achieving executives, this area of life was the most neglected when work or family pressures mounted. Can you relate? But here's something to think about: How much more could you achieve if you were at your optimal health? The possibilities are endless. In this new podcast episode, Graham and I are diving deep into this crucial subject. We'll share insights and perspectives on how prioritizing your health can significantly impact your life and business. We'll look at various parts of self-care and preventative health and share stories that will shock you.
Do you often find yourself caught in a negative spiral when faced with challenges? In a world that often feels like it's in constant motion, finding a moment of stability can seem like a daunting task. There's a transformative power that can help. Staying grounded. And that's what this week's new Press Pause episode - From Chaos to Calm is all about. As an entrepreneur and a leader, I've experienced firsthand the whirlwind of managing a busy schedule, juggling professional responsibilities, and maintaining personal well-being. It's a balancing act that can be a daily struggle. This isn't about quick fixes or simple solutions; we are going to talk about active changes you can make to find that solid ground, even when everything else seems to be in constant motion. You will learn: What it means to stay grounded when the world around you is anything but. How to find your center when challenge is near. The importance of remaining true to your values and priorities. This is about finding your calm in the chaos, your quiet in the noise, and your direction when paths seem to blur.
If you're like many of the leaders I work with, finding time for fitness may seem like a puzzle piece that doesn't quiet fit into your busy schedule.
Yet, fitness isn't just about carving out time; it's about crafting a lifestyle change.
Consider this: Fitness is the fuel that powers all of your endeavors.
It's not just about being physically strong; it's about building resilience and energy you need to perform at your peak, both personally and professionally.
So, how do you do this?
Start small and stay consistent. You don't need the marathon sessions at the gym or the extreme diets. Make daily deliberate choices.
Your health is the most precious asset you have, and investing in has a pay off that extends beyond what you can see right now.
In your day-to-day leadership, isn't it fascinating how the whispers of doubt or self-criticism linger far longer than your cheers for success? Allow this to be your gentle reminder: You, a beacon of inspiration and steadfastness for your team, deserve to be positive and self-compassionate. This is easy to say but can be so hard to do. It's because you and I are prone to a negativity bias without even realizing it. It's that inner voice that puts you down, and has you worried for the future. Every shift you make towards an optimistic mindset allows your leadership to grow. You become your teams inspiration in challenging times when you guide your own journey with positivity.
Welcome back to another exciting episode of the Intentional Leadership Podcast. Because we've had amazing feedback from our community on our past conversations on healthy relationships and specifically marriage, we've recorded a special new podcast on this important topic. On today's episode, Graham and I will be discussing - How to Strengthen Communication in Your Marriage in Times of Fear. When was the last time you've checked in with your spouse to see how they are really doing? Let's face it, we are living in some pretty scary times right now. Compound this with challenges that arise in your professional and personal life, and it inadvertently strains communication and connection. It's a challenge I've faced myself: juggling the demands of leadership and ensuring my marriage doesn't bear the brunt of my stress. And while I don't have a magic solution, I've found that conscious, open, and empathetic communication becomes your biggest ally. Go check out this brand new podcast show and learn some practical ways to improve your communication and your marriage.
Let's face it. In this time of uncertainty there's a balance between your success and the moments where fear intertwines with your decisions.
I see it; I've lived it. This space is the balance between fear and faith.
In these moments fear may steer you slightly off course leaving traces of doubt or a pit in your stomach.
What if you could anchor yourself not in the overwhelm that fear often brings, but instead in the sturdy foundation of faith?
Leadership isn't a complete absence of fear but the presence of faith. When you remember this, you will be able to lead with more confidence, and impact those you influence in a positive way.
Have you woke up to one of those days?
Sometimes, you need a gentle reminder, it's perfectly okay to have a bad day.
Pause for a moment and let that sink in.
As an inspiring leader, you always push toward optimism, resilience, and showing up as your best self. And that's a beautiful testament.
But let's breathe and recognize that every so often, the clouds drift in. Days unfold where things just don't click, where you might feel a bit off, perhaps a tad more vulnerable, and you know what?
That's not just okay; it's human.
I want to affirm something to you: your worth is not tethered to always being at the top of your game. The moments where you are in a low place also hold value. This is where your resilience and strength come from.
So here's my invitation to you: Let's continue to embrace sunny days and hold space for the cloudy ones.
Welcome back to another exciting episode of the Intentional Leadership Podcast. On today's episode, I have a special colleague and friend on the show, Dr. Katrina Ubell - a successful physician and a master certified life and weight loss coach. We will talk about Dr. Ubell's success in the field and at home, as well as the opportunity I had to coach her through an important work/life decision. Have you found yourself in a similar spot? The constant struggle to balance your professional opportunities and your family commitments, a challenge that no matter what you choose can leave you feeling like the other option was "right." What if I told you it's not about what's right but instead your decision should be driven by your values, priorities, and unique situations in your life? Your journey is uniquely yours yet can be shared with other leaders. This alternate perspective we have to share with you in today's episode, will allow you to see that you can be successful at work and at home.
In your pursuit of success, you may not recognize a subtle, yet important ally that is with you through every triumph and challenge: your breath.
Your journey, , has had times of remarkable success - those wonderful times of leading your business and loving every minute of it. Yet, I understand firsthand, that beneath the accomplishments lies many challenges, often filled with overwhelm and pressure.
How do you, as a devoted leader and caring family member, find your anchor amidst all these challenges?
Consider this: when stress and urgency become an issue, your breathing becomes shallow, stopping the soothing, reenergizing flow of oxygen through your body and mind.
This is where intentional breathing comes in, a fundamental yet often overlooked aspect of your life, that can be a firm anchor to keep you grounded in times of stress.
Allow me to share a technique, uncomplicated yet profoundly impactful, designed to gently guide you back to your center - your place of calm and strength.
Navigating the pressures of leadership can often feel relentless. From making decisions that shape the future to managing the day-to-day intricacies of your business, the weight of responsibility is immense.
And in the middle of this pressure, the feeling of being overwhelmed can stealthily creep in, leaving you wondering if there's a better way.
You know, I've spend considerable time reflecting on the rhythm of being a business leader, and I have a game changing secret to share for you:
True productivity emerges from being well-rested.
Now, I know what you're thinking. "Rest? In the middle of all this chaos?" But stay with me for a moment.
It's not just about the hours of sleep you get, though that is undeniably important.
It's about a deeper rejuvenation. A time when you let your mind wander, unshackled from the pressures of decision-making, and allow yourself to simply be.
When you permit yourself this space, several transformations unfold:
It's time to give yourself permission to step back momentarily, to recharge and rejuvenate.
On today's episode, Graham and I will be discussing - Eco-Therapy.
When was the last time you actually stopped to breathe?
As a successful business leader, I know the demands on your time and energy are immense.
But consider this: the simple act of stepping outside, away from the confines of office walls and digital screens, can be your sanctuary. This is Eco-Therapy.
I promise it's not just one of those trendy terms; this is your chance to refresh your mind.
Just by taking time to step outdoors, breathe in the fresh air, feel the sun, or even listen to the gentle rustling of leaves can offer clarity in times of challenge.
, you are choosing to disconnect from immediate stress and reconnect with yourself. This is your strategic pause.
Do you recall those carefree days when a box of crayons and a coloring page could capture you undivided attention?
While the challenges and dynamics of your role as a business leader has evolved considerably, the profound benefits of coloring remain unchanged.
Surprised? So was I.
Adult coloring books have recently claimed a spot in popular culture. At first glance, it may seem like an unexpected diversion for a high-achieving leader like you.
But peel back the layers, and you'll find an activity with benefits tailored especially for you.
Coloring allows for a unique blend of mindfulness and relaxation. In your whirlwind of meetings, decisions, and responsibilities, a few moments with a coloring book or another simple yet creative task can ground you and switch off the barrage of thoughts in your head.
In this week's podcast episode, learn how you can implement some simple things into your day to add some fun while lowering your stress.

Navigating the dynamic world of business often places a weight on your shoulders, doesn't it?
Balancing responsibilities, making crucial decisions, and often, feeling like the weight of the world rests upon you.
Yet, you have a valuable resource available, one that's been here since the beginning of time, that's often overlooked: meditation.
As a person of Christian faith myself, I understand if the term 'meditation' gives you a pause. Often associated with Eastern traditions or New Age practices, it might seem a world away from your beliefs.
But, meditation is for everyone, including a Christian practice waiting to be rediscovered by modern leaders like you.
Recall the words from Psalm 46:10, "Be still, and know that I am God."
This is not merely a call to pause but an invitation to intentional reflection, a moment to center yourself amidst the chaos, anchoring your thoughts on God's promises.
As a business leader, I've face countless moments of turmoil and uncertainty. Yet, whenever I've paused to pray and meditate upon God's Word, I've found clarity, direction, and renewed strength, essential tools for any leader.
So, why should you, as a devoted Christian and a business leader, delve into meditation?
I see you. Deep in the trenches of entrepreneurship, striving for perfection, balancing deadlines with family dinners, and trying to capture a few of those precious 'me' moments.
The constant juggling can often make you question: Am I truly bringing my A-game, not just to my business, but to every facet of my life?
In the office: Beyond the spreadsheets and calls, it's about how you show up. Are you truly serving as an inspiration? Are you leading with authenticity and making decisions that resonate with your core values?
At home: Those irreplaceable moments with your family and friends - are you genuinely there? Or do thoughts of work often cast a shadow on these cherished times?
Being the best version of yourself isn't about pushing harder; it's about aligning more closely with what truly matters.
And guess what? Both your business and our personal life flourish when you're in sync with your genuine self.
It's a journey, and sometimes, it requires you to pause, reflect, and adjust your sails.
The world doesn't need successful entrepreneurs; it craves authentic leaders who thrive in every realm.
As a fellow entrepreneur, I've seen you wear your packed schedules and sleepless nights as a badge of honor. You often convince yourself that working late into the night or on the weekends to "catch up" is the path to success. But let me ask you something: How often have you felt that despite all the hours you're putting in, you're running on a treadmill, not really getting anywhere? You're not alone in this, trust me. Over the years, I've worked with countless ambitious leaders like you. But here's a game-changing realization: Constant hustle without pause isn't always progress. It might seem like a paradox, but sometimes the most productive thing you can do is to step back and take a break. Imagine this: Your innovative ideas, the solutions to those problems that seem insurmountable, often lie just on the other side of rest. When your mind is constantly in the 'go-go-go' of business, you might miss the answers that emerge in moments of quiet reflection. Taking a break isn't a sign of weakness or lack of dedication. It's actually one of the most strategic moves you can make. Giving yourself permission to rest, even briefly, can recharge your creativity, bolster your resilience, and sharpen your decision-making. So, I challenge you today: Look at your calendar, find a spot, and block out some time just for you. No work calls, no emails, just pure, restorative downtime. Whether it's an afternoon off, a nature walk, or a weekend unplugged, give yourself that. Your future self - and your business - will be immensely grateful.
Navigating the entrepreneurial journey can feel like a rollercoaster, right?
Between long hours, endless tasks, and that never-fading desire to outdo yourself, it's easy to feel bound to your office chair.
But what if I told you that sometimes, the best way to unlock your full potential is to literally break free from your usual workspace?
As an entrepreneur, your office can become both your sanctuary and your cage. Sure, it's where the magic often happens, but it's also where overwhelm, fatigue, and monotony can creep in.
Ever caught yourself staring at your screen, feeling like you're hitting a wall, and the fresh ideas have just... stopped flowing?
Here's a thought: You're not stuck. You just need a change of scene.
When was the last time you allowed yourself to work from a different environment? A park, a cozy café, a local library, or even a quiet corner of your home?
The familiar hum of your office may feel safe, but new surroundings can bring about an unexpected clarity that you've been yearning for.
Imagine sipping on a fresh brew while drafting your next proposal, or brainstorming while birds chirp in the background. Sounds refreshing doesn't it?
This isn't just about aesthetics. It's about giving your overworked mind a fresh playground to explore. It's about rekindling creativity, thinking outside the box (or office), and reigniting passion for your projects.
Consider this my personal challenge to you: Dedicate one day this week to work outside of your office. And when you do, pay attention.
How does your thought process shift? Do ideas flow more naturally? Is there a spring in your step as you tackle challenges?
Being an entrepreneur is about adaptability, innovation, and courage. Your time is now.
Welcome back to another exciting episode of the Intentional Leadership Podcast. On today's episode, Graham and I will be discussing - Why You Should Take a Sabbatical. You're up late again catching up on your work emails, juggling a myriad of tasks, with your mind racing faster than your fingers can type. It's the life of an entrepreneur, one I know all too well. But here's a question for you: When was the last time you truly paused? Not just a weekend break, but an intentional timeout? Let's face it. The weight of a business, the expectations, the relentless pursuit of success - it can be exhilarating but equally exhausting. While resilience is a badge of honor among entrepreneurs, continuous strain without a proper break can drain even the most passionate. This isn't about taking a vacation. It's about a sabbatical: An intentional period away from the daily grind to rejuvenate, reflect, and reignite your entrepreneurial spirit.
Juggling tasks, managing teams, and constantly innovating - the entrepreneurial journey can sometimes feel like a relentless race, can't it?
It can sometimes feel like a computer glitch to your mind. I've been there.
Just like your computer, your minds and bodies can become bogged down. You get caught in a whirlwind of tasks, responsibilities, and commitments.
You start strong, but over time, the grind wears on you.

It's time to put a stop to this harmful habit and start practicing self-love and self-compassion. Negative self-talk can significantly impact your mental health and self-esteem. When you constantly berate yourself, you create a toxic cycle that can lead to anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues.
Here are 4 tips to break free from negative self-talk:
1.First, become aware of it.
2.Pay attention to the negative thoughts that arise throughout the day and challenge them.
3.Instead of dwelling on your shortcomings, focus on your strengths and accomplishments.
4.Spend time with people who uplift and encourage you.
Remind yourself of your worth and that you are deserving of love and respect, just like everyone else.
Self-love and self-compassion are powerful tools for improving your mental health and overall well-being.
A growth mindset is the belief that you can learn and develop your skills and abilities through hard work, dedication, and perseverance.
With a growth mindset:
Having a growth mindset isn't about being perfect or always succeeding - it's about recognizing that failure and setbacks are a natural part of the learning process, and using them as opportunities to learn and grow.

On today's episode I had the unique opportunity to sit down and interview my 91 year old Dad and learn What It Means to Have A Legacy.
Growing up, my Dad was one of my biggest mentors who taught me the importance of hard work, family, play, and a myriad of other things. This was my chance to ask him the why's.
We reflected over his choices, work/life balance as an entrepreneur, family, and words of advice to a younger self.
One thing that stood true over every question was the importance of joy, faith, and devotion to your family.
Whether you realize it or not, every day you are building your legacy. Step by step and choice by choice you influence those around you.
The impact you leave over a lifetime becomes your legacy.
This week I have a challenge for you and it starts with the question:
What do you want?
I know, you are a servant hearted leader, and thinking about what you want can feel selfish at first.
But my friend, it is not. This is your time to navigate and ask yourself, "What do you want?" You could be in a career or relationship where you are unhappy. You may be feeling like you are not where you want to be; or you may not be getting something you need to be happy.
This is your time to reflect and make changes.
✨️Press Pause Tip of the Week✨️
Take a moment to journal and reflect on what in your life is just right. Reflecting on the past allows you to see what changes you can make for the future. I often hear others saying "Forget about the past" or "Your past doesn't define you." This doesn't mean you should stop looking at the past but instead knowing when to reflect on the past.
I make an effort to Press Pause and do a yearly reflection. During this time I look to see the positives and the negatives.
With this information I am able to let future events change instead of rewriting the past.
Press Pause and reflect on what in your life is just right.
Does this time of year have you feeling too busy?
In this week's Press Pause, I am giving you the reminder to take time to savor the moments in your day, and in this special season. These things can be small.
When you intentionally stop the rushing and take the time to notice them, they bring a smile to your face. What are these type of moments:
This Holiday season will soon be over. Take time to savor the moments of this special season.
We have all been there, those moments when something just completely sets you off. That phone call, something happened, or you have just had enough…In this moment, you need to Press Pause.⏸️Press Pause and recognize what this feel of anger is all about. It may be something small or something that has been an issue for a while.❌️But don't let this anger control you.❌️Listen to your feelings and respond with reason.
Are you getting the restful sleep you need each evening? If sleep is something you feel like never comes naturally I understand. As a busy entrepreneur and parent finding time to get sleep, especially when you are always on the go, is a challenge. And when you finally get to bed your brain isn't shutting off.In this moment, you need to Press Pause.Press Pause and follow my Tips for Great Sleep. My first tip to you is to set a regular sleep schedule. When you are going to bed and waking up at the same time each day, even on weekends, you are training your body to wind down and wake up naturally and produce melatonin when it is time for bed.
Are you someone that is easily able to get the proper rest you need? Or does stress impact your ability to get a good night’s sleep?🤔 As a busy mom and entrepreneur it is easy to be the latter of the two, I know I was. You eat, sleep, and breathe work. You work two full time jobs as a parent and business owner. And even when you go to bed your mind is still on the go.🤯 In this moment, you need to Press Pause⏸️. Press Pause⏸️ and make an 8 PM rule. This means at 8 PM each night it's time to start your nightly wind down. This means not going back to do work even though it's tempting. Doing so will only reenergize your brain when it needs the rest.
How many times have you set health goals and life got in the way?
I know it's not easy to stay on track especially when you are the last person you take care of in a day. Work, kids, spouse, they all come first but you need to look at this differently. You need to put YOU first otherwise you won't be who you want to be to them. Take a moment and think about your current health. Ask yourself these questions:
Am I regularly eating whole foods and healthy meals?
Is going to the gym a priority or a "when I have time for it?"
Am I waking up feeling rested and ready to take on the day?
If you felt like you needed work on any of these areas then it is time for a Health Reset. It starts with you and your desire to live an abundant life on your terms.

But listen up, my friend. This doesn't always serve you.
After more than two decades as a successful entrepreneur, I have been there and have "pushed through" more times than I would like to admit.
There is a place for this and the drive to persevere is a positive trait. However, I have learned over the years when you continue to push yourself to the limit over and over, you deplete yourself and it doesn't serve you or your team.
You are not working at your best when you're running on empty.

If you’ve been tuning in to the Intentional Leadership Podcast, you know that I’ve been sharing all about how to prevent career burnout by striving for optimum health. Today on the show I’m sharing the third key to achieve overall wellness, sleep. When you work to improve your sleep habits, you’ll start to see big changes in your business and your life.
Sleep is so important because without sleep you cannot form or maintain pathways in your brain that let you learn and create memories and you can’t concentrate or respond. This may be why you are feeling brain fog throughout the work day, or can’t seem to function past 2 pm. Some other signs of lack of sleep are excessive yawning, moodiness, depression, forgetfulness, difficulty learning new things, clumsiness, increased appetite, and intimacy issues.
According to the National Sleep Foundation, we need 7-9 hours of sleep per night, but 40% of Americans are getting 6 hours or less. If you think you may fall in this category, then it is important that you make the decision to figure out why you’re not sleeping well and take action to improve your sleep routine.
Graham and I are talking about my 10 Tips for Better Sleep, which you can also find in my book. Read through the tips below then choose one or two that you can start to implement today!
Overtime you will become more in tune with your body and you will be able to avoid triggers that lead to interrupted sleep. Listen in to the full episode for more!
In my previous podcast episode I talked about the first stage of improving your health in order to prevent career burnout- nutrition. Today on the Intentional Leadership Podcast we will be talking about exercise, the second key of managing our health.
Consistent exercise has many health benefits, which means it benefits your business. This is why you should exercise like it is your second job. My husband and I both have made the effort to be consistent with exercise, so we know firsthand how hard the transition to a more active life can be. Today we're coming together to share the 3 strategies we've incorporated in our lives in order to maintain a regular exercise routine.
In my previous podcast episode I talked about how career burnout is becoming an epidemic. But, today on the Intentional Leadership Podcast we are talking about managing our health and how it can prevent burnout.
The foundation to good health is nutrition. If you're looking to create the best possible life for yourself, where optimum performance in your personal and professional life is the norm, you must take your nutrition seriously.
In our house my husband, Graham, is the chef and together we’ve created a few nutrition habits to help us eat right and power up our nutrition so that we have really great energy. So, I thought that I’d bring him on the podcast today to share a bit of his story and how he’s helping our family stay on track.
This week on the podcast we are discussing career burnout and how, as leaders in the modern world, we are especially susceptible to it. In this episode, I am sharing with you how to recognize the signs of burnout in order to prevent it in ourselves and in our teams.

I encourage you to listen to this episode to identify a few goals where you want to make a change.
