Mark worked his way from CAD/CAM programmer to Managing Director, making parts for Formula 1 teams and Rolls Royce jet engines.
After emigrating to Canada, he provided hands-on coaching for companies introducing advanced manufacturing, as well as teaching Engineering at the University of New Brunswick. Jimmy Campbell is the CTO of Plastometrex, who provide novel mechanical testing solutions for metallic materials. Jimmy has a PhD and undergraduate degree in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge. His PhD focussed on experimental and computational development for the PIP method, which extracts full stress-strain curves (including yield stress and UTS) from a simple indentation test. He has published more than 15 papers in scientific literature, including one identifying a fundamental flaw in an analytical calculation used extensively in the indentation community, is the co-inventor on 3 patents and co-author of a book titled 'Testing of the Plastic Deformation of Metals.

Jason Reason is a widely recognized expert in safety and health with a special emphasis on combustible dust and industrial hygiene. Jason has performed hundreds of Dust Hazard Analysis for all types of combustible dust s in a myriad of industries. Her serves on a total of six technical committees and actively coordinates efforts to reshape combustible dust, safety, and health standards. James started his first company at the age of 16. The profits paid for his college tuition at MIT, where he was also a NCAA student athlete. Today we have a special episode featuring students from the inaugural 3Degrees AMx – Advanced Manufacturing Experience.
Working with local community group West Side Forward, this course aimed to bring the excitement and opportunity of jobs in the advanced manufacturing sector to underserved communities. The 3D Printing industry has grown up to 30% over the past five years, adding thousands of new-collar jobs to the American workforce. Yet just because the additive manufacturing industry has jobs, it doesn’t mean there isn’t difficulty filling them. New collar positions, like the ones created by industrial 3D Printing, value technical skills over college degrees— something difficult to find in today’s workforce. 3Degrees is working to solve this problem.
I’ve seen this first-hand as an entrepreneur running two companies that help large manufacturing organizations (e.g., government, aerospace, automotive) implement 3D Printing technology. My clients tell me time and again that they have well-paying, benefit-eligible jobs that they cannot fill. It seems the US has forgotten how to train its workforce for today’s jobs that do not require a college degree.” “On the flip side, access to finding jobs in this industry is not straight forward. Most of these companies are small (100 employees) and unless you have some network or understanding of the industry you may not know what’s happening in the white, non-descript, windowless buildings on the side of the highway.’
The pilot course was a combination of in person instruction, tours of leading 3D Printing facilities like Renishaw, Impossible Objects, and mHub as well as mentors from across the industry (Siemens Energy, EOS, Desktop Metal, Met-l-Flo, Dyndrite, Forecast3D). Throughout the duration of the course, the class got to trial different technologies and design their own parts using the Future of Jewelry online software. Students had the opportunity to receive the Certified Manufacturing Technologist (CMfgT) certification from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers and America Makes upon completing the course. The program culminated with a guided tour of North America’s largest 3D Printing trade show Rapid.

Michael Cao founded IC3D in 2012 as a 3D printer design and manufacturing company. IC3D is one of the first 3D printer companies to manufacture their own line of 3D printing filament in-house. For 13 years Michael was a senior mechanical engineer at Honda R&D where he has earned several automotive patents and designs interiors for future products. Michael started his Honda career in 2003 after completing a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Oklahoma. While at OU, Michael led the Formula SAE team to design and build race cars for the annual collegiate level competition. Michael was also led the Honda team to redesign the interior of the Acura NSX.

John Sorvillo is a licensed elementary school teacher who has been in educational administration for nearly a decade. At the Westwood Preparatory Academy, the students are in residential care, most under court custody with no familial provisions. As a director at the academy, Sorvillo builds programs, teaches, and counsels with the goal of inspiring hope through education. Initially, the academy had one 3D printer, but it struggled to incorporate it into instructional lessons. Juan Mario Gomez is the CEO of Xact Metal. Xact Metal is a startup out of Penn State University developing a lower cost direct metal additive manufacturing system. As opposed to traditional direct metal systems that can cost upwards of a million dollars, the Xact platform is a fraction of that cost with the aim to lower both the financial and risk burden typically required to invest in these types of technologies.
Prior to running Xact Metal, Juan Mario was at GE for 15 years.

Alex Kingsbury's career in additive manufacturing (AM) spans both industry and R&D specializing in bringing new technologies to market. She has successfully co-created solutions and partnerships in the sectors of: aerospace, defense, biomedical, and resources. Alex is currently an Additive Manufacturing Industry Fellow at RMIT University working to enhance links between industry and the university. These links extend across research, and teaching and learning functions at the university. Prior to this role she worked as a consultant to industry, specializing in metal AM. During that time, he’s used many subtractive and, since 1991, additive prototyping methods in both Research and in Development efforts. Byron Kennedy is the cofounder and CEO of SPEE3D, a high-speed, metal 3D printing company. He is a serial entrepreneur, having cofounded the first spin-off company from Charles Darwin University before exiting to NYSE listed company Regal Beloit (Fasco). His current company, SPEE3D has developed a new 3D printing process for metals - supersonic 3D deposition (SP3D).
