A simple locked-door style film about the parents of a school shooter meeting with the parents of one of his victims. It's not fun. It's also incredible.

I sure do. It was a formative moviegoing experience for me. So I decided to gush about it. Enjoy!
In the cinema world, there are few things more enjoyable than having no expectations for a movie and then being blown away by it. This last year, everyone who watched Puss in Boots 2 felt this exact thing. Nobody asked for this movie, nobody expected much from it. Who would have thought it would end up being one of the best animated movies in the last few years?
Lets gush this thing.
In today's episode, Nic and Brendon review the Tollywood epic RRR. It's an over-the-top film about India and it's relationship to Britain in the 1920s, the rivalry of two friends, the use of wild animals in warfare, and man-riding-man piggyback kung fu action.

Now I may be biased but I think we're are starting with a good one Doctor Sleep: Director's Cut. That's right, the 2019 sequel to the Shining, directed by Mike Flanagan and based on the novel by Steven King (duh).
Movies like this is what Cinema Gush is all about. This movie was a flop. Nobody saw it. And who could blame them? Making a sequel to Shining is--on the surface--a terrible idea! But here's the thing: this movie is incredibly good. Dare I say, maybe even better than the original? I mean, this one even got long-standing horror hold-out Nic Lishko to even seek out other horror movies! That's no small feat!
Yes it's scary. No doubt about it. But it is also a deeply inspiring movie. One that if you give it a shot, I'm sure it will become one of your favorites.
One disclaimer, make sure you watch the Director's Cut. By all accounts, it is a vastly superior movie. You can find it on HBO Max or buy it on Amazon Prime. Trust me, it's worth it!

He's the guy who has directed check's notes everything good everywhere. So when he decides to direct a dramatic comedy about a little boy who has Hitler as an imaginary friend, you don't ask questions. You watch it immediately.

Brendon fell in love with this one while running the projectors at the Myrna Loy Theater in Helena Montana. He watched it again and again and again. His love for it is deep though he does acknowledge that at this point there may be a smidge of Stockholm syndrome. No matter, the love is reel (Ho ho! See what I did there?) and it's time to gush.
