Remember when you and your friends just finished seeing an awesome movie and your exit the theater and head into the lobby and gush about all of the moments you loved?

"Oh my gosh when the semi flipped I was screaming!" "Dude, that moment when she was in the room and the killer was right there?!" "Holy crap that soundtrack!!!" "Oh my stomach hurts so bad, I've never laughed so hard in my life." "And when Mike Tyson shows up? That was freaking hilarious!"

That's where Cinema Gush lives.

Join Brendon and Nic as they adventure through their favorite movie experiences, bringing on guests from a wide range of backgrounds to talk about the movies that changed their lives.

We watched a hard movie this week: Mass written and directed by Fran Kranz.

A simple locked-door style film about the parents of a school shooter meeting with the parents of one of his victims. It's not fun. It's also incredible.

Its worth your time. We hope you enjoy the podcast and appreciate the film. See you next week with something at least nominally lighter!

He's wrong. You're wrong. YOU ALL STILL HAVE ZOIDBERG.

In the cinema world, there are few things more enjoyable than having no expectations for a movie and then being blown away by it. Today we welcome back Kyle Murphy to talk about a great little movie that many of you missed when it came out back in 2018: Bad Times at the El Royale.

If you haven't seen this one, you need to. It's written and directed by Drew Goddard and if that name doesn't mean anything to you, change that. This guy can write. So give it a listen. We start spoiler free too in the hopes of convincing you to catch this one! We know, we'll try and do that more often ;).

Today we are joined by our first repeat guest: Dr. Bill Tullius. That's right, our favorite philosophy professor is here to talk about another movie! Today's flick is Hail Caesar, the 2016 Coen Brother's movie staring...everyone. Seriously, just shout out the first Hollywood celebrity that pops into your head and--BAM!--there's a 75% chance they are in this movie.

This is a hysterical day-in-the-life tale about a Golden-Era Hollywood fixer as he struggles to reign in entitled celebrities and communist screenwriters. You owe it to yourself to watch it.

And in case some part of you is still not convinced that Joel and Ethan Coen are the greatest film-making duo in history, be sure to watch this episode of Every Frame a Painting*: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5UE3jz_O_EM

*While your at it, watch every episode of Every Frame a Painting. It would take you only three and a half hours to watch all 28 episodes and by the end you would have a better knowledge and appreciation of film than most college level film courses could every hope to give you. https://www.youtube.com/c/everyframeapainting/videos

Season 2, Episode 1 is here!

Now I may be biased but I think we're are starting with a good one Doctor Sleep: Director's Cut. That's right, the 2019 sequel to the Shining, directed by Mike Flanagan and based on the novel by Steven King (duh).

Movies like this is what Cinema Gush is all about. This movie was a flop. Nobody saw it. And who could blame them? Making a sequel to Shining is--on the surface--a terrible idea! But here's the thing: this movie is incredibly good. Dare I say, maybe even better than the original? I mean, this one even got long-standing horror hold-out Nic Lishko to even seek out other horror movies! That's no small feat!

Yes it's scary. No doubt about it. But it is also a deeply inspiring movie. One that if you give it a shot, I'm sure it will become one of your favorites.

One disclaimer, make sure you watch the Director's Cut. By all accounts, it is a vastly superior movie. You can find it on HBO Max or buy it on Amazon Prime. Trust me, it's worth it!

Also, make sure to watch this interview with Steven King and Mike Flanagan. It's a great primer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uxT6jSJmNi0

Welcome back everyone! It's only been a few months but the world is a very different place than it was when we were with you last. People are going back to the office. People are hugging again! It's wonderful!

Cinema Gush is back too and we are so excited to give your ears a hug! We're easing into things here. No guest today, no movie gush itself. Rather we wanted to take a moment to talk about the industry in general. It's been a big year and no industry has been left untouched. Movies are no exception.

Some topics we hit on:

-The Hitman's Bodyguard's Wife is a thing. But how?

-Amazon acquired MGM.

-Chekhov and his many guns.

-Some trailers.

-Post-apocalyptical pandemic movie viewing and the pleasures of seeing a film with an audience of other people.

-MCU TV conspiracy theories.

-Behind the scenes planning that absolutely did not need to be recorded and you didn't need to hear and dates that we didn't hit!

Happy to have you guys back. We have a great season ahead. We're dropping on Friday's this year so pop us in your ear at the end of your work week and enjoy some movie times with Cinema Gush.

Enjoy your weekend and we'll see you next week where Brendon will gush about a movie you probably didn't see but absolutely should. It's the sequel to the Shining: Dr. Sleep.

Love you all! ~C.G.

We did it! The season one finale is here. But don't worry, it doesn't end on a cliff hanger and you won't have to wait with baited breath to see if we'll be renewed by the studio. We will be back soon. And we can't wait.

In this episode we reflect on the first season. This little podcast of ours started because we wanted some more positivity in our world and we missed going to the movies. But, it was everyone who listened and commented that kept us going. You have all been so supportive and we really appreciate it.

See you soon with some great flicks and some gushing commentary.

It's here! Our semi-season-finale! And we picked a great one to go out on. Matt Okapal is here to talk about Jojo Rabbit directed by Taika Waititi. Maybe you've heard of him? He's the guy who has directed check's notes everything good everywhere. So when he decides to direct a dramatic comedy about a little boy who has Hitler as an imaginary friend, you don't ask questions. You watch it immediately.

So join us as we wrap up our season with the funniest movie and the saddest movie we've done yet. And join us next week for a true season finale wrap up episode.

And don't worry, we aren't going anywhere. We already have some great movies lined up for Season 2! Thank you for all the listens and support and enthusiasm you've given us this year. Love y'all!
