Hey Boss, welcome to the Blogger Breakthrough Podcast, I’m your host, Liz Stapleton from ElizabethStapleton.com and founder of the Blogger Breakthrough Summit.
And today I’m actually going to take a break from the blogging advice, because today is November 3rd and in the US there is an election.
So I wanted to take today’s episode as an opportunity to encourage you to go vote if you haven’t already.
While I’m not going to tell you who I think you should vote for, I am going to say that local elections are just as important as the national ones.
The things being protested against will typically change at a local level before there are changes at a national level.
So I encourage you to educate yourself on the candidates and issues, typically a quick google search can provide you with the information you need. Do not solely rely on the information provided on the ballets, I’ve found descriptions to be written in extremely bias ways in the past.
I also want to note, that many people have voted early or by mail, so don’t let whatever the polls are saying at whatever time you’re listening to this episode sway you from going to vote and making your voice heard. The election won’t really be over until all the votes are counted which given that there is a pandemic may be days or weeks after today.
Just please, go vote!

Welcome to the Blogger Breakthrough Podcast, I’m your host, Liz Stapleton from ElizabethStapleton.com and founder of the Blogger Breakthrough Summit. In today’s episode we’re going to be talking about some things you should stop doing. So I’m going to talk about taking some things off your plate.
Stop wasting time on social media There is a time and place for social media, but you need to not get sucked into it and spend a ton of time on it. Only spend as much time on it as necessary.
Personally, I’ve found taking the apps off of my phone and logging out on the internet browsers, to keep the temptation of checking them at bay.
Stop trying to do everything and be everywhere That means not only cutting back on one promotion method, it’s better to go deep on 2-3 promotion channels, than spread yourself thin and not get anywhere on 4-6 channels. It also means not trying to cover all the topics on your site.
Stick to one thing and do it really really well before branching out to other topics.
Stop Wasting Time on Small Returns This goes along with my first point because chances are social media is a task or action with a small return on the time invested.
So what else do you spend a lot of time on that doesn’t really produce a result that was worth the time you put in? That is something you should be asking yourself about everything you do.
For me, one thing I do that doesn’t really move the needle, is constantly tweaking my site.
Sure there is a time and place for tweaking a website, but there also comes a point where it just becomes a procrastination method…
“I can’t send out publish more posts until I get this one thing on my website fixed”
Ever heard of the 80/20 rule? It says that 80 percent of your results come from just 20 percent of your work.
Well, what if you really focused on the type of work that made up the 20%? Could you work less and earn more? Yes, yes, you could.
Bonus Tip: Stop working all the time I have on more than one occasion worked 70 hours a week, when I was a full-time entrepreneur, living alone, it became particularly more common for me to do so.
It was awful.
Part of why it would happen was because there is always more work I can be doing, I’m never really “done”.
The other reason I was working so much? Parkinson’s law.
Parkinson’s law states that work will expand to fill the time you give it, meaning if you give yourself four hours to write an article it will take at least four hours.
If on the other hand, you set a limit of one hour, it will take about an hour.
Setting boundaries not only helps in making you focus to do your work meaning you get more done in less time but also helps you to find work-life balance.
I also found that once I was tired it took me way longer to get things done, than if I were to just stop take a break, recharge and start again later.
Wrap Up So those are my suggestions of things you should stop doing:
I hope these tips help you feel better about pushing things off your to -do list and giving yourself a break. Join me next week for when I share some simple SEO tweaks you can do to help you your site, I’ll talk to you then.

Welcome to the Blogger Breakthrough Podcast, I’m your host, Liz Stapleton from ElizabethStapleton.com and founder of the Blogger Breakthrough Summit. In today’s episode I’m answering a question a few of my readers sent in before the podcast was launched. The question is What is the fastest way to make money from my blog?
Let’s dig into the answer...
How Blogs Make Money First, let’s touch on the different ways blogs make money. Typically there are 4 different ways to make money on your blog:
Part of the answer to the question of “what is the fastest way to make money blogging”, depends on how much you want to earn and if you want it as a one off or consistently. I’m going to assume you want to earn money consistently from your blog and ideally as much as possible.
Display ads are certainly the easiest way to to make money blogging You can do display ads, nearly from day 1 with Adsense, also media.net, but based on my own experience I would do adsense over media.net. The thing is you won’t actually earn a decent amount until you have a ton of pageviews.
Even then you will likely move ad providers. You likely hear a lot about MediaVine and with their 50,000 sessions requirement, it may take a while to get there. But I don’t think qualifying for MediaVine should be your goal, for one there are lots of other ad providers in the game. And by the time you qualify for them you should be earning a lot more from other revenue streams.
Affiliate marketing is one of the most passive ways to earn money blogging Affiliate marketing you can also start doing from day 1, or close to it. The thing with affiliate marketing is that you’re really planting seeds to earn money down the road. You might not earn a lot to start, and it will likely take some time for it to become consistent, but is something that is easy to start with and can grow with time.
Sponsored content is another way of trading time for money I personally am not a huge fan of doing sponsored content, because to me it feels like trading time for money and so it’s only scalable in terms of what you charge. The more you can charge the more you can earn. But it usually requires you to have some following first.
I know tons of people love monetizing with sponsored content and it can be pretty awesome, if it’s something you’d like to explore I’d recommend checking out Tracie Fobes, who spoke about this topic as part of the Blogger Breakthrough Summit in 2020.
Selling Products will likely earn you the most Selling products is something that won’t make you money right away, but you likely don’t need as big of an audience as you think to do well with product sales. When it comes to selling products, it matters more how engaged your audience is rather than how big your audience is.
Which is not to say you won’t have a product flop. I definitely have, but it’s always a learning experience, and you never know those products make work for some other time down the road in some other way.
Wrap up Okay, so what is the fastest way to make money blogging, probably display ads, but long term with the potential to grow more and more, you’re looking at affiliate marketing and digital product sales.
I hope that helps give you a bit of clarity, and with that I invite you to join me next week when I’ll share 3 things you should stop doing to start earning more, I’ll catch ya next time.

Welcome to the Blogger Breakthrough Podcast, I’m your host, Liz Stapleton from ElizabethStapleton.com and founder of the Blogger Breakthrough Summit. In today’s episode we’re going to be talking templates and systems.
Remember if you want to make sure you never miss an episode, be sure to hit that subscribe button.
Systems help keep you consistent Okay, let’s start with systems.
First of all, systems do not need to be complicated. Simple usually works best.
Systems are important to make sure you don’t miss things, a system could be as simple as a checklist.
If you want to get a little more sophisticated you can build in some automation with various tools. Zapier can be great to connect and trigger automations with various tools.
I’m sure you know that consistency is key to blogging, but it’s not just being consistent in publishing blog posts, it’s being consistent with your promotion too. So making sure you’ve got the elements you need to promote, through the various channels you choose to promote. But at the very least you should be letting your email list know about your content.
Which is why you don’t want to miss a step and why you need to make sure you’re using systems in the management of your blog.
Next up Templates.
Templates takes out some of the hard work Are you hard coding everything on your website? No. Why? Because you don’t have to, there are tools available that make running a website available to everyone, even people like me who have no idea how to code.
So I want to ask, why don’t you take the same shortcut when it comes to other parts of blogging? Social media templates, templates to help you create products faster (slides, promo images ect)?
I mean it’s fine to want to make things harder on yourself, but the reality is that starting with a template and then customizing it to make it yours is not only easier than starting from scratch but it usually takes less time too.
The next problem when it comes to templates is spending forever finding and or deciding on which templates to use. I’ll say that I find templates by Kara Fidd at Simplifying DIY Design to be pretty awesome, my only qualm about them is they are in Canva, so I have to break them down to rebuild them in Google Slides, but it works for me and saves me time in the long run.
There are tons of other great templates out there, but once you find ones you like, stop and start using them, don’t debate, don’t keep looking for better, just start using them to create.
Wrap Up I hope that helps you better understand why you need both systems and templates as a blogger, if you have any questions be sure to hit me up on instagram and let me know. And be sure to join me next week when I’ll be talking about the fastest way to make money blogging. Until next time, have a great day.

Welcome to the Blogger Breakthrough Podcast, I’m your host, Liz Stapleton from ElizabethStapleton.com and founder of the Blogger Breakthrough Summit. In today’s episode we’re going to dig into how to prioritize all the blogging things.
Okay, so I think for most of us, when we started a blog, we thought it was just writing blog posts, and then we find it it is actually a whole lot more than just writing a post.
The more courses you take the more things get added to your to-do list. And I’m not saying courses are bad, they can be fantastic to help shorten a learning curve, but many courses don’t actually show you systems so you can keep up with all the new things you now think you are supposed to do.
So when staring down your massive to-do list, what should you prioritize?
I think the answer partly depends on where you’re at as a blogger.
If you don’t have a lot of content yet, and by a lot I mean at least 100 posts. Then I think you should prioritize content creation, and do what you need to to get it out there, don’t put pressure on yourself to create graphics for every social media channel to promote it, create the post, create the featured image, hit publish.
Once you’ve got a good amount of content, I think you can slow down how often you post and in turn get ahead on your editorial calendar. Which will then free up some time to prioritize other things.
Like figuring out an email marketing strategy that extends beyond just telling them about your latest post or a fly by the seat of your pants affiliate promotion.
You don’t have to email your list every day, while some weeks you may email them more, I tend to stick to at least once a week.
Now your email list, is the most valuable of the various marketing channels you’ll have, but if up until this point you’ve prioritized posting content, you might not have a very big list, so in addition to getting in the groove of what to send your list, you’ll want to work on setting up your site for success when it comes to getting people to opt-in.
Now, the good thing about having 100 posts is you can dig into your Google Analytics and see what is most popular and resonating the most, and create an offer around that which will incentivize people to join your list.
Once you have good content and a good email strategy, then I think you should focus on A social media channel. And notice I said A as in one. Do not try to do all the social media channels at once. Pick one that you like and know your audience is present on and rock it hard before moving on to another one.
And really that is the basics, I think, when it comes to prioritizing all the blogging things. Though you should realize, that once you go through that prioritization once, you’ll likely go through it again and things might move around in order, depending on your goal. For example, if you’re working to launch something, you’ll likely work backward from the launch date to determine your email marketing strategy and your content strategy and create the content for both, starting with email first.
I think where most people struggle when it comes to figuring out a priority is that they try to prioritize everything. Take a step back from your blog and decide where you want to go and then prioritize one thing to start and don’t move on until you get it right or have a system for it that helps you keep up with it, or both.
Anyway, because I promised to keep these episodes short and sweet, I’m going to stop right there, but hopefully this has helped you in figuring out what to prioritize and work on. Let me know what you think over on Instagram @lizstapletonesq and with that I hope you have a great day. Be sure to tune in next week when I talk with Katrina from Frugal Fun Mom about how she finally hit 100 email subscribers.

Hey Everyone, Welcome to the Blogger Breakthrough Podcast, if you’re new here, I’m your host, Liz Stapleton from ElizabethStapleton.com and founder of the Blogger Breakthrough Summit. In today’s episode we’re going to talk about how to stay consistent with your blog. Let’s get to it…
The first thing you need to establish is your consistency schedule - don’t set yourself up for failure.
Don’t say you’re going to post three times a week if you can only manage 1 every other week. There is nothing wrong with posting only once every other week or once a month.
If you’re behind or constantly scrambling to finish a blog post to make sure it goes out. Do a hard stop. Give yourself a month or two (and email your list to let them know - keep emailing your list during this posting sabbatical)
Use the month or two to create and get ahead on your editorial calendar. That way you’re not constantly scrambling.
Resist the urge to post something as soon as it’s done (unless it is super timely).
It’s okay to take a break, it’s the constant starting and stopping that gets hard.
If you are struggling to keep up, just like you keep those meals in the freezer, I’ve got some quick on hand solutions for your posting schedule.
First, Update an old post, if you’ve been blogging a while chances are you’ve got some posts that could use to be updated. So update it, and give it a new featured image.
Now, the trick to this is, that you update it just like you would update anything, then the day you want it to go live, go in and change the date to today’s date at a time that has already happened. You do not want to schedule an updated post. You also need to make sure your URL isn’t going to be changed, if you have dates in your URL then you’ll want to skip this strategy.
The next, quick and easy post, is a round up of your own posts. For example, say you’re a food blogger, you could do your top 5 chicken recipes, or instant pot recipes, or vegetarian recipes.
The same thing works for other niches too, for my personal finance site I’ve done, top 5 posts to help you payoff debt, top 5 frugal living posts to save more money.
Take a category on your blog and figure out a way to do a round up, and it doesn’t need to be a huge number either, you don’t need the top 17 posts, just work with what you have.
The benefit is, it’s quick to write - just write and intro to each post and then link to it, and it helps to get more eyes on those posts.
The last tip I have to help you stay consistent is to batch like crazy, but do one thing at a time. Which I know sounds a bit contradictory.
What I mean is this, if you’re working to create the featured image for a post, do it for several posts at once. But just do the featured image, worry about the pinterest images later. When you’re writing, just write, don’t try to edit and proofread at the same time.
The more you batch like this the easier it will be to keep things moving.
Jeff Goins spoke at the 2020 Blogger Breakthrough Summit about having a 3 bucket system for content creation and as long as those buckets always have something in them, you’ll always have work to do and be able to put out posts. The buckets were, 1. ideas, 2. drafting into something readable, and 3. editing into something publishable.
Capture the ideas into a bucket
A bucket of drafts
A bucket of edits to do
Work on moving something from one bucket to the next.
One final tip, don’t get hung up on what tools you use for ideas or drafting or whatever, do what works for your brain, trying out a new tool just because someone mentioned something is a distraction, it’s a form of procrastination. If your current toolset isn’t working for you then, okay you have permission to go looking for other tools, but don’t waste a ton of time on it.
Okay, so hopefully these tips will help you to be more productive and consistent with your blog posting. Thanks for being here, I’m so glad you could join me for the second episode of the blogger breakthrough podcast, stick around for episode 3 where I’ll be sharing some tips on how to prioritize when it comes to blogging. Catch You then!

Find out what the Blogger Breakthrough is all about and how it's here to help you. In this quick introductory episode you'll also get to know the host a bit:
Welcome to the Blogger Breakthrough Podcast, I’m your host, Liz Stapleton from Elizabethstapleton.com and the founder of the Blogger Breakthrough Summit.
I’m so excited to be here with you to talk about blogging, specifically, This podcast is for bloggers who are feeling overwhelmed and frustrated by a lack of progress.
It's going to be filled with quick tips and resources to help you get further in less time.
It's also going to include celebrations of bloggers hitting new milestones, because every milestone should be celebrated. And because I know you’re short on time, these episodes won’t be crazy long, typically 15 minutes at most.
So if that sounds like you, then make sure you hit that subscribe button so you make sure to never miss an episode.
Okay so now that you know a bit about what we’re going to cover with this podcast, I’d like to get to know you a bit better and help you get to know me.
I started blogging in 2014 with a personal finance site, called, and I kid you not - Friday Night Shenanigans. Talk about a terrible name for a personal finance site.
So I’ve been at this blogging thing for a long time with multiple sites, I also have a background as a lawyer and eventually my interests collided, so I started helping bloggers figure out the legal side of blogging, which I still do and will continue to do in this podcast.
However, my world was turned upside down when I moved cross country to not only be closer to family but to actually move in and help with my niece and nephew, so I went from living alone 100% my time being my own, to sort of being a stay at home “mom”/aunt, especially with the pandemic.
All of the sudden I had to figure out how to get all my work done in a fraction of the time. I’ll be sharing with you how I did that.
I’ll also be answering questions you have sent in - I’ve already gotten some great ones from you and I’m excited to dig into them.
One other thing you might hear about occasionally is my super high maintenance dog - especially if she chooses to bark in the background.
With that I’m going to sign off this first episode, and am excited to get started with the actual tips and tricks and all sorts of good stuff in episode 2, again, welcome, I hope you’ll stay a while.
