As cross-cultural individuals, how many times have you craved, missed a dish from home or from another country? Food is a source of sustenance but can also be a source of comfort or even a source that gives us a sense of home. Welcoming Livia, a cultural food blogger, we talk about how food has given us the opportunity to explore back on our identities and to learn more about our cultures. We also cover how cultural expectations from our closest ones like parents and friends had distanced us away from associating ourselves with our own cultures. As we grew up to be adults, we came to realize how food was a symbolic part of our cultural identity and how it was intrinsically tied with defining who we are. What is friendship to you? Living cross-culturally may mean having an unconventional idea or form of friendship that doesn’t have geographical expectations and etc. It’s a gift to be able to hold friends all over the world but it can also be a good reason to trigger your insecurities. This week is a special episode! Yasuha will be sharing her life story as a TCK/CCK. As a mix TCK/CCK from Thailand and Japan, her life was full of transitions and self-searching. She tells her story about how the various environmental changes and cultural shifts she had gone through had given the struggles, self conflicts that today she feels proud of. In this episode, we share how our experiences were shaped in the Japanese elementary school environment. In a society that emphasizes the concept of unity and collectivity school education had given both of us the experience of culture shock and the feeling of being "misfit". However, over time our opinions and perspectives towards our experiences and the educational experience have diversified, now being able to give a more objective critique. We hope this episode can provide some kind of clue for parents and students that are facing cross-cultural educational decisions associated with Japan.

The very first episode of the In-between Club! In this Episode, we talk about a huge topic for TCKs and CCKs; Language. As Cross Cultural individuals, we are met with unfair assumptions and social expectations that can sometimes tear down our self worth. Language can mean a lot more to us than just the ability to speak, write and listen to a language. Tomoka, Yoshika and Yasuha share their own stories to create a discussion about the diverse experiences around language of TCKs and CCKs. We hope we can give you something to gain from this.
