Today on Lets Talk we are talking about the Big C, Cancer. Its the leading cause of death for our people and while the mortality rate for non-Indigenous Australians decreased by 12%, the mortality rate for our mob shockingly increased by 12%. But its not all doom and gloom, with our young scientists turning to bush medicine too find cures for cancer and other diseases such as Parkinson’s.
The Indigenous Suicide rate is double that of Non-Indigenous Australians, and while the Federal Government labels it a national tragedy, Indigenous Healing services such as Gallang Place in Meanjin call it a national disgrace, and are calling on the Federal Government to invest in the people not Billion dollar dams.

Every Tuesday for the last three years my two children have been attending Jarjums playgroup run by Allan and Tina, a playgroup that is based at the benevolent society in Browns Plains. The program is for parents and cares of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children aged birth to 5 years, the playgroup is supported by Aboriginal staff, community members and a child health nurse.
