Today I want to share what I both witnessed and experienced at my recent event ICONIC: The Revolution, and it has to do with the powerful concept of SUBTRACTION.

In business we worship nonstop expansion, adding on, increasing volume, and stacking layers of complexity onto what we do. Today instead, I invite you to honor the subtraction, or taking away, and study its results. This will actually help move your forward in the right way, faster than your alternatives. It has a lot to do with energy. And I explain it all on this episode of #GlambitionRadio.

OK let’s just say… earwax? Not sexy. Building a multi-million dollar biotech company without a science-based degree? Sexy! And our guest today did it.

At our recent meeting for The Trust, a clear theme emerged just during our first session. There is currently a simultaneous occurrence for all of us, consisting of huge new opportunities along with huge demand to LET GO of something else in order to move in the right direction. And along with all this, feeling some crazy damn chaos on the perimeter!

But is all that chaos around us right now actually happening TO us? Or… FOR us? Think of a brilliant new home you’ve been dreaming of for years, but right now you’re in the middle of the old teardown.

With over two decades as a TV reporter and creator of CNBC’s ‘Disruptor 50’ franchise, Julia Boorstin has interviewed and studied thousands of business leaders. And while witnessing the dearth of women in positions of leadership, she committed to the ideal that true gender equity shouldn’t be a pipe dream.

In her newly released book, ‘WHEN WOMEN LEAD: What They Achieve, Why They Succeed, and How We Can Learn from Them’, Julia shares her groundbreaking and ‘deeply reported’ narrative work from interviewing thousands of female business leaders and executives. These interviews reveal the counterintuitive, against-all-odds approaches of women running the world’s most innovative and successful companies—and what we can learn from them.

Do you remember the Bible story about the golden calf? It’s basically revealing of human nature and our tendency to stray away from what’s true in the name of what’s new, sexier, faster, or ‘here right now’. This is one of my favorite stories that we can also relate to in business. Because we have all created – or have even been told to workshop  – our own golden calves… or ‘false gods’.

For the first time ever, in this episode of #GlambitionRadio, I break down 7 false gods I see most every day in the businesses I have worked with.

WOW… I was thrilled to have Danielle Laporte back on #GlambitionRadio to talk about… LOVE. Not love as in loving another person in particular, but a concept much greater, and the theme of her new book ‘How To Be Loving…when your heart is breaking open and the world is waking up.’

And, what does this have to do with ourselves as business owners and leaders? More than you may realize, in today’s times. Danielle spent the past few years radically simplifying her life, doing the deep work, and determining that love is not a feeling, but a virtue, and how we learn about love and express it is incredibly personal.

I’ve always been in love with writing, since I was little. Using words in the right way to convey your point to the fullest. Finding just the right word that can replace a string of five others. Expressing emotions that are hard to convey. And more.

But I never knew what copywriting actually was until my mid-20s, when I landed a job at a midtown boutique ad agency. It blended my love of both words and psychology. I immediately became enamored with the idea of doing that for a living – could it really be possible?

There are multiple timelines in existence right now. And it’s critical that we consciously select the higher ones… as entrepreneurs, as mothers, as citizens, as humans.

Because we are here to help bring the world through to ‘the other side’, in more ways than one. As entrepreneurs, we are likely here to create new ways of doing business. But in the overarching scope of things, we are really here to create a brand new world.

And WOMEN entrepreneurs are a huge part of leading this charge. (Have you noticed the answers have never pointed more strongly than right now to the ways WE have always worked best?

How many fashion retailers came out of the last two years not only sustaining their business but landing well ahead of where they were? And also right after opening several new retail locations beforehand? You’re about to hear that story, but there’s much more to Paige Adams-Geller and her company PAIGE than meets the eye.

I first pulled on a pair of PAIGE jeans back in 2006 and felt I’d finally found the brand to fit me best. But since then, they’ve expanded to become a full lifestyle brand. (I ask her about this decision on this #GlambitionRadio – when do you know that’s the right thing to do versus staying true to the original product?

She tried to ‘give away’ her brilliant idea dozens of times, but no one in her industry wanted it. So finally, Suneera Madhani did it herself. Today, her company Stax has a $1 BILLION valuation (and it’s the first women-led fintech company to do so). And all those guys who rejected her? They are now her partners. 😉

Suneera grew up in the U.S. with immigrant parents who were entrepreneurs out of necessity, where Suneera learned hard work and customer service firsthand – two traits that have led to her success today.

It’s the women who are doing business differently, in an extraordinary way. And there’s one particular ‘Alpha Femme’ epitomizing this movement: Melanie Ann Layer of Quebec, Canada.

Starting as an ‘invisible coach’ in 2017, whose name was shared solely by word of mouth, Melanie’s business and Alpha Femme brand quickly grew – without a website, podcast, viral videos, ads, or a best-selling book.

She is known for her unique approach to feminine leadership and wealth energetics, but it started with one big shift after a job loss which led to a bankruptcy.

As high-achieving women, we often don’t consider how much we’re operating in our masculine energy. And we assume that business is supposed to feel hard — and even at times unenjoyable. Could there really be another way? And if so, would it actually feel ‘backwards’ compared with how we’ve been trained to do business?

But today’s Glambition Radio guest, Emily Aarons, is all about making quantum leaps in your business without more hustle. It all changes when you learn how to tap into your feminine energy, trust your intuition, and give yourself permission to say ‘NO’ to the tactics and strategies that feel out of alignment.

We are consuming more than we are creating. And it’s a recipe for disaster. As we enter 2022, this phenomenon is evident both in our businesses (plugging into endless coaching programs, apps, formulas, + solutions) as well as in our lives (absorbing nonstop entertainment, mind-numbing programming, retail, and more).

Combine that with the fact that for years we have been programmed to ONLY get the ‘right’ answer — whether via our schooling or our careers. And today it’s even worse: We are told what to believe that answer is, and we are asked not to think about the ‘why’… or even question it.

The American Dream is still alive and well, my friends. In the beginning the cards were stacked against Myoshia Boykin-Anderson, and especially during her childhood years: a tough upbringing in Houston’s ‘Third Ward’, a drug-addicted mother, an education that capped at high school, and an early pregnancy soon after.

Today Myoshia is an award-winning entrepreneur who owns AndTech Solutions — a multiple 7-figure tech company — and has empowered her own family and others at the same time.

Her secret? She never stopped trying.

On #GlambitionRadio, you’ll hear how my client Myoshia’s determined, ‘get it done’ attitude helped her navigate and persevere through her career’s many evolutions… and it’s why I find her story so impressive.

When survival is the focus of our conscious (and unconscious) minds, pleasure is often the first to be shoved to the back burner. It seems like a pandemic luxury item. But did you know that, as women, pleasure is actually linked to our overall health? In between running our businesses, homeschooling our kids, caring for family at a distance, and all our other daily responsibilities… it’s actually critical we make time for this now. When 7 years old and living on a remote sugar plantation in Hawaii, Jennifer Kem told her schoolteacher that when she grew up she wanted to ‘join the General Counsel of Coca-Cola’. Her teacher and parents told her that did not make sense and to choose another ‘real’ profession.

And while this brand advisor’s professional vision has since evolved, her keen mind for business opportunity and willingness to embrace personal evolution has continued to deliver success… in spite of massive external inconveniences, personal detours and disappointments, and generations of limiting cultural and familial programming.

On #GlambitionRadio you’ll hear how Jennifer has gracefully navigated several professional peaks and crashes: from scaling the ladder and discovering the riggings of the ‘corporate game’, to building an 8-figure retail business from the ground up, to thriving after the economic crash of 2008. And with the uncertainty surrounding today’s business and economic landscape, Jennifer is an authentic voice of wisdom and leadership in a sea of noise.

Her pragmatic and skeptical approach to business and life is not only refreshing but relatable. (And if you’re familiar with the online marketing ‘bro-down’ culture, I think you’ll get a real kick out of our conversation too. And how she references the whole affiliate game I can’t mention here, but you’ll hear it on GlambitionRadio.com. ;))

Jennifer is a San Francisco Bay-based serial entrepreneur who helps other entrepreneurs to get seen, heard, and paid for being themselves. She’s the creator of the Master Brand Method, a framework that she’s used to strategize and launch projects for celebrity brands like Oprah Winfrey Network and Steve Harvey, and major corporations including Verizon, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and Bank of Hawaii.

On this episode, you’ll hear:

  • The hardwired generational, cultural, and family belief systems that Jennifer felt destined to break (do any of these sound familiar to you?)
  • How Jennifer seized a massive business opportunity lurking in her geographic isolation (who knew there was nowhere to buy this everyday item in Hawaii?)
  • How a single episode of ‘Oprah’ (that had nothing to do with Jennifer personally) helped grow her retail business to 8-figures in only 18-months (this was —and is—a brilliant marketing move)
  • The defining moment when Jennifer realized the corporate game was fixed… and how she planned her strategic exit (this is NOT the renegade story I expected…)
  • Why it’s more important to be thoughtful instead of overthinking (and how this applies to more than just business)

Because most productivity systems were designed by men, affecting change in women’s lives—getting them excited for work, feeling good in their personal lives, and making dreams come true—is Tonya Dalton’s north star. And to do this, she’s debunking outdated and ineffective models of productivity to transform how women create their ultimate versions of a blended workspace and home sphere.

On #GlambitionRadio, you’ll hear how Tonya (without any prior experience) started her first business from her kitchen with $50, two kids playing at her feet, and zero email subscribers… and built her booming family business to 7-figures within 18-months to successfully absorb her husband’s corporate income and bring him on as CMO.

Today, Tonya is a world-recognized leader in women’s productivity and has been featured by renowned entrepreneurial media like Inc., Entrepreneur, and Forbes exactly because she provides a new, modern-day model of efficiency and life design that actually works according to the way women think, which you’ll learn all about on GlambitionRadio.com.

She is a best-selling author, and speaker and serves as a growth strategist for female leaders in the corporate and entrepreneurial sectors. And I’m honored to also share she’s a client of mine and a member of my new network The Trust.

On this episode, you’ll hear:

  • The reason male ‘corporate-type’ productivity has never worked for women… and why Tonya’s new business-lifestyle model is receiving wild acclaim from top business media
  • How to differentiate between what’s just ‘busy-ness’ and what’s good for business (because sometimes it’s easy to blur the lines)

As we all review our credit card statements to see which of our dozens of subscriptions are truly necessary… the question emerges: What makes one subscription or membership more essential than another?

Today on #GlambitionRadio, Robbie Kellman Baxter takes us inside what she calls the ‘Membership Economy’, and explains how you can create a forever transaction with your most loyal customers… and keep them coming back for more, even when they don’t get anything traditionally ‘tangible’ in return.

On GlambitionRadio.com you’ll learn why some of the world’s largest and most successful community- and subscription-business models are thriving—even in the face of the current economic climate—and just how quickly subscription technology is adapting to consumer needs on a yearly, monthly, and moment-to-moment basis. (This is evolving even more rapidly as we transition to more time spent at home.)

Robbie is the author of ‘The Membership Economy: Find Your Superusers, Master the Forever Transaction & Build Recurring Revenue’, a book that has been named a top 5 Marketing Book of the Year by Inc.com, as well as the forthcoming book ‘The Forever Transaction’ (McGraw-Hill 2020). Robbie coined the popular business term ‘Membership Economy’ and her expertise with companies in the emerging Membership Economy extends to include SaaS, media, consumer products, and retail and community organizations.

On this episode, you’ll hear:

  • How to focus in on who your best members are— and optimize your offerings around their quirks (this is a fascinating study!)
  • Why meaning and relationships never go out of style — and why you shouldn’t try to be all things to all people (a business truism worth repeating)
  • How to identify a business promise that will justify recurring revenue from your customers… forever
  • Why disruption has rushed innovation—and what that means for the future of your household (you’ll never look at your refrigerator the same way again…)

Take this in… within the last four weeks, you’ve likely gone from being fine, jaunting out and about, and enjoying life as usual… to suddenly having much of your income abruptly cut off, being told to lock yourself inside your home, and sitting alone on a sanitized sofa ordering food from your phone.

You now have really no choice but to become a business rule-breaker. For the sake of yourself and your family.

On this special episode of #GlambitionRadio, we’re going to look at 3 key areas where you should (yes) play it SAFE right now. (You can guess that cashflow is one, and I give several tips on controlling that more than ever.)

But I’m also going to point out 5 key areas where you should absolutely DOUBLE DOWN— and some of these may surprise you! (One sneak preview: It’s time to continue building your loyalty + trust with clients and colleagues more than ever. I explain how.)

This time could — in the most silver lining possible way — be the foray into the most iconic work of your life. Have a listen here to understand how: GlambitionRadio.com

These times are unprecedented.

And you and I both are here for a reason, having chosen to be here in this lifetime and in these tremendous times of change.

Sometimes it pays to be a misfit. And for this former editor-in-chief of ‘More’ magazine, being ‘different’ is exactly what led to multiple personal and professional reinventions… each more enriching than the last. And while confronting the realities of not fitting in—with data, dollars, and social cues from strangers to prove it—can lead to a few twists and turns, these are also the circumstances that lead to immense growth and creativity.

CoveyClub Founder Lesley Jane Seymour is a renowned media entrepreneur and one of the publishing industry’s most respected leaders. And on today’s #GlambitionRadio, you’ll hear how she is leading the charge for professional women to make grand comebacks and reinvent our careers, well into our 40s, 50s, and beyond.

Before the tragic demise of ‘More’, Lesley began proactively creating her own reinvention plan… something she encourages women everywhere to think about before they’re forced to react to unexpected change. Today’s professional women are the first generation to face longer careers along with major industry disruptions, while also having more resources available to make their ambitions come true than ever before.

On this episode, you’ll hear:

  • Why not fitting in can be a blessing in disguise — and how to channel rejection into reinvention
  • How Lesley embraced a cross-country move as a chance to ditch her old identity (have you ever felt a physical location holding you back from your next evolution?)
  • The social impact of magazines that isn’t often spoken about — and how Lesley used media as a platform for women’s advocacy (she was the first to publish a picture of what!?)
  • The ‘snapshot’ memory with two First Ladies that Lesley will never forget — and how that moment marked a turning point in her career
  • How the downfall of ‘More’ magazine created a loyal, digital following of women around the world — the exact women who convinced Lesley to create her next big media opportunity

I have a professional girl-crush on Lesley and I think you’ll feel the same after listening to this episode!

How do you unintentionally grow a YouTube marketing channel with zero subscribers to a multi-7-figure business? The answer might surprise you. Coming to you live from her studio apartment—with low-tech equipment and a sharp eye for opportunity—today’s Glambition Radio guest reveals the counter-intuitive qualities that shot her to the peak of video marketing… and established her as a bona fide social media expert.
