The Between Meals Podcast features Beth Manos Brickey, FNTP, RWS, RYT, of TastyYummies.com. Food and nutrition, while very important, this is JUST ONE piece of a much larger puzzle. Movement, stress, sleep, emotions, spirit, community, play – these are just as crucial to our wellness and vitality. And should too, be investigated as both potential causes and as cures. Have you ever been told to "just listen to your body" when it comes to your nutrition and health? While this advice may sound simple, it can be frustratingly vague and unhelpful for many individuals leading to frustration and a lack of self-confidence. If you've ever struggled to understand what your body is trying to tell you or found yourself feeling unsatisfied despite following this advice, you're not alone.
In this episode of "Between Meals," join us as we delve into the limitations of "just listen to your body" and explore the concept interoception. Interoception is the body's ability to recognize and interpret its own internal cues, such as hunger, fullness, pain, and emotions. Unlike the oversimplified soundbite of "just listen," interoception offers a nuanced and comprehensive approach to understanding your body's signals.
In this episode you will:
Whether you're struggling with excess hunger or low appetite or simply an inability to tune in and connect with your body's needs, this episode offers valuable insights to help you create a healthier relationship with your body and nourishment.
If you're ready to move beyond the frustrating soundbite of "just listen to your body" and embrace the empowering journey of interoception, this episode is for you. Discover the key to unlocking a deeper understanding of your body's unique needs and achieving lasting well-being.

Protein Powders I Recommend:
Legion makes high-quality grass-fed whey protein powders and plant-based protein powders. Visit their website using my affiliate link and use my referral code: BethMB and you save 20% on first order - and get double loyalty points for returning customers - https://legionathletics.rfrl.co/3238r
Paleo Pro makes a grass-fed beef isolate and egg white protein that I like: https://paleopro.com/product/paleo-protein-powder-2/ I especially love that they have a "naked" version that contains no sweeteners at all, which is great so I can control sweetness with things like banana or other fruits that I want to include.
Naked Nutrition also makes a good whey protein powder and an egg white protein powder: https://nakednutrition.com/products/grass-fed-whey-protein-powder https://nakednutrition.com/products/egg-white-protein-powder
If you know that you don't tolerate cow dairy but you do tolerate goat dairy, Mt. Capra makes various goat whey protein powders: https://mtcapra.com/product-category/protein/I do just fine with most dairy and with goat dairy and I did have a problem digesting this protein, personally, (lots of bloating) for what it's worth. But, I know many people who do great with it. Any grass-fed whey protein powder, without additives can be a great option, as tolerated. See above for my recommended brand and for a discount.
Garden of Life also makes a decent plant based protein https://amzn.to/3Y6FJeP
{None of these brand recommendations are sponsored. I have an affiliate link for Legion Athletics and the Garden of Life link is an Amazon Affiliate link}

Do you struggle with low appetite, poor hunger signaling, and an inability to recognize when you are truly hungry?
Maybe you are on the other end of the spectrum with an insatiable hunger or appetite, you are always hungry and you feel like a bottomless pit.
Many people have gotten so accustomed to ignoring their hunger cues (this is usually thanks to years of dieting and restriction), being undernourished being busy, working through meal time, snacking or grazing on the go, skipping meals, eating mindlessly or with many distractions, and without the space to be more mindful.
Are you able to truly feel the physical signs of hunger and know when to eat in response? It's not uncommon for many individuals to be left feeling like “am I really hungry?”
Part of being able to develop more awareness around eating, to be more intuitive with your eating, and to eat more mindfully is to recognize the physical signs of hunger. If you are struggling to recognize hunger learning what to learn for and why things may not be functioning optimally can be really helpful.

This is where Intentional Eating can be an incredible approach to bridge the gap of these two extreme ends of the spectrum.
In this episode, you will learn more about why some people find intuitive eating to be challenging and how you can navigate the vibrant grey area of intentional and informed eating.

In times of stress or when much of life feels chaotic, it is common for our health habits to slip away, especially if they are newly established behaviors. And suddenly recognize we are operating from a more reactive state. Not feeling our best, feeling the physical and emotional manifestations of the chaos and having to reactively work to manage the fall out.
Imagine if you could work to prevent this and have plans in place to be able to operate more proactively?

Stress Part 01 - Is it Really Stress?
Stress Part 02 - Completing the Stress Cycle and Avoiding Burnout
For those habituated to high levels of internal stress since early childhood, it is the absence of stress that creates unease, evoking boredom and a sense of meaninglessness. People may become addicted to their own stress hormones, adrenaline and cortisol, Hans Selye observed.
To such persons stress feels desirable, while the absence of it
feels like something to be avoided. - Gabor Mate, M.D.

In upcoming episodes in this series we will discuss how to continue to support your metabolism and properly nourish yourself, meal timing, the foundations of nourishment and more!
Listen in for a list of the most common signs and symptoms that you might not be eating enough food, but first you must promise to come in with an open mind.
It would shock most people to know that this is the most common root cause I see in my functional nutrition practice, especially with women clients and IMHO it isn't talked about enough. Thanks to diet culture we are constantly bombarded by messaging of eat less and move more, "eat clean", cut out this food to heal your body and people are more confused then ever on what to eat, how to eat and the best ways to nourish their bodies. Often this leads to a lack of proper nourishment and the effects are downright catastrophic.
I encourage everyone to listen to this episode, yes, even if you feel that you have body fat to lose, especially if you aren't achieving your goals despite how hard you try, listen to this episode and consider that you may in fact need to eat MORE food.

About Michelle Shapiro
Michelle Shapiro is an Integrative/ Functional Registered Dietitian in NYC specializing in body-neutral weight changes, and the holistic healing of stomach issues and anxiety. It is her joy and passion to serve her clients in living fulfilling lives in all aspects.
Any condition that Michelle works with is something that she has proudly battled herself. After a weight loss of 90 pounds as a teen, Michelle thought all of her problems would be solved! But what came as a result from rapid weight loss and disordered eating was chronic illness and a LOT of body judgment. And even more than that, she had crippling panic attacks which deprived her of so much of her joy. It took years of research, growth and self work for her to proudly say she is in a healthy, anxiety free- body that she now loves.
She works to bring the lessons she learned, both academically and personally to all of her clients. And more than that, she aims to provide a safe space to share for each and every one of them. Her goal is to “hear” each person who feels like they haven’t been heard before. Listening is her real passion. It is now her life’s mission to prevent her clients from making the same mistakes she did. She works to give her clients tangible tools to reverse anxiety and digestive issues while still ditching restriction and negative thoughts about food and their bodies and finally learn to eat more authentically and intentionally.
She works with clients one on one in her private practice both in person and virtually, as well as in her 8 week online program, “Anxiety Proof.”

I am sharing a really pivotal moment in my healing journey and why this birthday is especially meaningful for me.
Plus I am sharing 40 quick thoughts and lessons I have learned along the way.
Sometimes a subtle shift in language and self talk can have a huge impact on how you take ownership of your choices. Stepping into your power and feeling a sense of empowered commitment to your approach
As a continuation of the conversation we had in episode 32, we are talking about how your perception of your rules, whether they are rules or guidelines that are self imposed or not, can really affect your success and your commitment.
None of this is about perfection nor is it a suggestion that rules are the righter only way, but instead it's about finding peace and ease in the limitations.
AFFIRMATION:
Every time I tell myself “I can’t”, I create a feedback loop that is a reminder of my limitations.

How do food rules or guidelines make YOU feel? Are you someone who finds comfort or freedom in the structure and direction or do food rules always feel like restriction or toxic diet dogma to you?
In this shorter format episode I am sharing some thoughts that have been heavy on my mind lately and I am diving into why I think we need to consider that individual's perceptions and tendencies toward rules differ just as much as the individuals themselves do.
I am also sharing some of my personal concerns with the current extreme pendulum swings and the shame-inducing judgement I have seen some folks feel for their personal preferences and tendencies that may differ from others.
If you enjoyed this episode or you have any thoughts at all - please reach out, I would LOVE to hear from you.

This week’s Episode of the Between Meals Podcast was created in partnership with MegaFood®. I’m proud to work with brands who care about the health of their consumers and the planet. As always, all opinions are my own.
When it comes to climate change, to combat the catastrophic impact on the health of the earth and humans, it starts from the ground up. Literally -- we are talking about SOIL! While farming and herbicides may not seem like a conversation that is relevant to most of you, I urge you to stick around. We need to be looking at how we are feeding our soil, so it can continue to feed us. Just like the human body has the microbiome of the gut, the soil has its own microbiome and without a healthy microbiome, the rest of the organism - the earth - it cannot thrive!
In this episode of the Between Meals Podcast I am joined by Sara Newmark, VP of Social Impact at MegaFood. We are chatting about regenerative agriculture and the impact it has on climate change and the environment, our health and why you should care. Additionally, I have shared on the website in the past, about the impacts of glyphosate on the health of our body and the health of our soil and we touch on the efforts being made to ban the use of glyphosate, what you can look for and all the many ways you can get involved both in supporting regenerative agriculture and banning glyphosate.
In this Episode We Discuss:
More about MegaFood’s Commitment to Social Impact Initiatives:
MegaFood is B-Corp certified, which enables the company to make progress in solving the needs of a world in nutritional crisis. While MegaFood has always aligned with the social impact standards, with the formal B-Corp Certification in 2017, MegaFood has also implemented the following strategic social impact initiatives:
Revised corporate bylaws to include social, environmental and economic diligence, ensuring the company stays on course, regardless of short-term and/or financial factors.
Established its Healthy Farm Standard program, aimed at improving our agricultural system by building carbon-rich soil and increasing the nutrient density of food. This new open standard will help farmers track and improve outcomes and help reach shared goals to ultimately support the health of our soil and build thriving communities.
Began development of a global verification standard for food grown in a regenerative way in partnership with The Carbon Underground and Green America, that results in improved soil health, improved human health, and a reduction of the threat from climate change. This work builds upon the Regenerative Agriculture Initiative that has over 150 companies, organizations and scientists as signatories.
Became the first supplement brand to obtain glyphosate residue free (GRF) certification for its entire line of products. The certification was granted by The Detox Project, an independent research and certification organization, after MegaFood submitted its products to an independent, third-party laboratory for testing and was found to have met The Detox Project’s stringent standards. More recently, the brand has partnered with Environmental Working Group (EWG) and several additional food and nutrition brands, including Ben & Jerry's and Stonyfield, to petition the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to ban the use of glyphosate as a desiccant before harvest. With this petition MegaFood aims to raise awareness of the potentially unsafe levels of glyphosate residue found in our foods today.
Integrated social impact as a crucial role in company-wide performance evaluations.

Stress management can be complicated and confusing and in my experiences, it’s often an overlooked root cause. Stress management gets pushed aside for the more flashy fixes: diet, exercise, supplements etc. But what we may not realize is that the very things we can often see as stress relievers, the things we feel are part of our healthy lifestyle, may at different times, in fact actually be contributing to the problem.
It's important to always stay curious and flexible in your approaches to healthy living, to realize there is no-one-size-fits-all answer, even within your own approaches and that you need to be ready to reassess and readjust at different times.
Sometimes there's a little uncomfortable ego work and shifting that has to happen!
In episode 24 of the Between Meals Podcast Beth is joined by Danielle Walker of popular website AgainstAllGrain.com Danielle is also the beloved author of three New York Times best-selling cookbooks Against All Grain, Meals Made Simple and Celebrations, as well as the recently released Eat What You Love. She is a self-trained cook whose innovative and accessible grain-free recipes appeal to a range of appetites. Her recipes are not only healthy and delicious but also can be credited with saving her life after she received a diagnosis of a serious autoimmune disease.
After being diagnosed with an autoimmune disease and suffering for many years, Danielle healed herself through dietary changes. With her honest and open nature, Danielle has become a prominent voice in the grain-free and real foods community and she is a true testament to how food can nourish and heal our bodies.
Danielle shares her story of healing with food while also discovering ways to still enjoy the foods that she loves.
In this episode:
Danielle shares how she first discovered the paleo diet and where her mindset was and what she had tried prior to this, when she decided to implement this approach.
Danielle shares her tips for getting started on a healing protocol or dietary intervention when you have autoimmune disease and she shares the tough-love advice she wish someone would have shared with her, early on.
Why “cheat days” with healing interventions may not work
We talk about shifting your perspective and what to do when you feel like "I can't have THIS food anymore" or "It's not fair I have to eat this way". Getting out of the poor me trap.
Finding new ways to enjoy the classic foods you grew up with, to still celebrate and not feel left out or deprived.
Our thoughts on emotional eating and how it sometimes gets a bad rep.

No. 23 | Blip Days. Bouncing Back When You Fall "Off Track". In today's shorter format BITES episode we are chatting all about getting up when you fall down, what to do when you have an "off day" and you feel yourself slipping into a downward spiral.
I am sharing some of my favorite tips and tools for how to handle the "misses" and how we can reframe our old narratives and the dangerously ineffective dialogue around this idea that we are either "on-track" or "off-track".
1) CONSISTENCY DOES NOT REQUIRE PERFECTION
2) Misses are just that – MISSES.
3) How not to attach significance or judgment to a choice, a day, a meal or a miss.
4) CHOOSE YOU!
I also share some incredible research to support my deep belief that mindset matters, with two studies that prove our body hears what our mind says and that we are always the one driver's seat when it comes to our choices and how we respond, react and "bounce back".
And finally, I offer two simple questions you can ask yourself, right after a miss or an off choice or in the moment when you are faced with a choice that has previously been known to send you "off the rails".
I really hope you enjoy this shorter format episode.

No. 22 | Are Carbs the Devil? Carb Cycling & Carb Ups. In this final episode in the 5-part Keto Conversation series we are chatting ALL about carbs!! Are carbs the devil? Should we fear carbs? Can we never eat them again?
Au contraire – I actually want to share that you CAN actually eat carbs and they may work synergistically with your low glycemic approach to support some important functionality within the body, to reset and rebalance, as needed.
After you've given your body the time and space and taught it how to become fat adapted, it's in that nuanced lifestyle and your personalized approach that you create where the real magic happens, in my opinion.

first and most major question you need to ask yourself – are you eating enough?

Should I Eat More Fat? Am I Eating Enough Protein? Troubleshooting your ketogenic lifestyle.
This latest episode of the Between Meals Podcast we are answering some of the questions I hear most often with my clients – especially when they find they aren't getting the results they are after with their nutrition. With our culture being so extreme, often misconception is, if too many carbs isn't great and lowering my carb intake is better – I should probably have no carbs ever OR fat is good for me, more fat is helpful for getting into deeper ketosis, so if I am not getting the results I want I should just eat even more fat!! DONE. It doesn't exactly work like that. These are both over simplifications that really won't help people who stall in reaching the goals that first set for themselves and honestly, may even cause more problems down the line.
Yes, we have talked about fat alone doesn't make you fat. The fear of fat is total bullshit and all of the amazing thing that fat can do for us, but we also cannot deny the fact that it is still TOTALLY possible to over-consume it. Additionally, the extreme removal and fear of carbs, can lead to an avoidance of important nutrient-dense, fiber rich vegetables that I think should be include in your diet.
As well, there seems to be some confusion and misconception surrounding protein. There is an unsubstantiated fear surrounding gluconeogenesis that often manifests as an underconsumption of protein, which can have deleterious affects of it's own.
Topics Covered and Questions Answered in Episode 21: * Can you have TOO much fat? * If fat helps to create ketone bodies and ketones are good, can't we just eat more fat to get higher ketones and get into a deeper state of ketosis? * If you over eat protein does it get turned into glucose? * The benefits of protein * How to calculate the right amount of protein * Do you need to weigh your meat? * What are macronutrients and what are micronutrients? * How does energy production actually work? Is it calories only or is there more too it? * Which macros does the body prefer in ATP production? * How protein can be self regulating and why overconsumption isn't a concern * Other areas to investigate if you hit a wall, are stalling or not hitting the heath goals you had for yourself * Are you overreacting or experiencing cravings because you are under-eating fat or protein, having too many carbs or are they related to something else altogether?

Keto vs. Fat Adapted vs. Low Carb This latest episode of the Between Meals Podcast in the Keto Conversation series we are simplifying some of the most common questions I hear. We even discuss finding gratitude to those who caused the trauma, as challenging as that may seem – in this episode Dr. Keesha actually takes me through a powerful exercise in facing my own trauma and my perpetrator. Before we dive in, if you feel that this discussion may not pertain to you, as you feel you are not a victim of the traumas we hear about most commonly, sexual assault, physical or emotional abuse, addiction, neglect, I urge you to please still take the time to listen to this episode. Dr Keesha unpacks and defines trauma in all senses of the world, as she calls it capital T and lower case t traumas and the many events that still affect and damage areas of the brain and our health and how trauma actually comes in so many shapes and forms. Dr. Keesha shares the many ways that events of our past can manifest not just in disease or physical imbalances, but in our relationships, our self talk and we get into all of the mighty lessons that past trauma can teach us! About Dr. Keesha Ewers Dr. Keesha Ewers is an integrative medicine expert, Doctor of Sexology, Family Practice ARNP, Psychotherapist, herbalist, she is board certified in functional medicine and Ayurvedic medicine and is the founder and medical director of the Academy for Integrative Medicine Health Coach Certification Program.
Dr. Keesha has been in the medical field for over 30 years. After conducting the HURT Study in 2013 (Healing Un-Resolved Trauma), she developed the HURT Model for understanding how past childhood trauma impacts adult health. This led to the creation of the You Unbroken online program for patients to heal their own trauma and the Mystic Medicine deep immersion healing retreats she leads at her home on San Juan Island, WA.
I had the pleasure of hearing Dr. Keesha speak last year and as she shared her own powerful story of healing her autoimmune disease and discovering the role unresolved trauma had in her health story – I had goosebumps and tears I my eyes listening to her words and her experiences that resonated so deeply with me and unknowingly at the time, this talk became a catalyst for me, to a huge year of self discovery and unpacking old narratives and healing from my trauma.
Over the course of 2018, I began doing some serious self assessment and I was facing head on my struggles with my self worth and my abilities to believe in myself, my perfectionism, my apprehension to trust people whose motives seem insincere, my disdain for people who abuse power or expect too much of me – all qualities in me that i most wanted to change, I began to realize were all rooted in the sexual trauma I experienced in my late teens and had told myself i had totally overcome and it was dealt with and a non-issue. it became an intense exploration into uncovering who I am and the work I needed to do yet to heal my body and my spirit so I could show up in the world in the ways I truly wanted to. And spoiler alert, like so many things – I’m still showing up for me and I am still doing the work! It is with great pleasure I share Dr Keesha and this amazing episode with all of you, to offer some incredible insight knowledge and actionable tools.

Celery Juice, How Detox Actually Works & Food as Medicine. Are you curious about the celery juice trend? Is it a super food or a super fad? In episode 14, I am joined by Ali Miller, RD, LD, CDE who is hitting us with the facts with her food-as-medicine approach that is grounded in nature and supported by scientific evidence. We talk through the misinformation, the redeeming qualities of celery and why you may want to reconsider downing gallons of celery juice each and every week.
From debunking some of the massive claims to talking through why some folks may be having great results drinking daily celery juice, Ali shares more about how the body's natural detox pathways work. Learn how you are better off consuming foods rich in sulfur, glycine, glutathione, cysteine, and nutrients that drive phase 2 encapsulation with ample fiber in the diet (that's right celery juice contains none of these things) to support the excretion of toxins from your body to actually detox vs. prevent detox process for short-term outcomes.
Finally, Ali shares more about her food-as-medicine approach when it comes to anxiety, depression and cognitive dysfunction.
I hope you enjoy this episode and if you have anecdotal evidence or personal experiences with celery juice that you would like to share, please feel free to use the comments below, we'd love to hear from you.

The Power of Starting Your Day with Positivity. In today's shorter format BITES episode I am sharing my personal experiences with starting my day with positivity. In this solo episode I explain how I recently came to introducing a new morning practice, where I implement positive mantras or affirmations as part of my morning rituals.
The incredible power that we have to shape our reality and control our intentions and our actions is far more simple than we realize. It's an incredible small step in your efforts toward self realization, self love and self care and guess what – IT'S FREE!
Whether your positivity comes through reflection or affirmation, maybe you repeat power statements or find empowerment through acknowledging your struggles and your ability to overcome them – this practice can truly affect not just the trajectory of the day, but also our confidence, self esteem, our relationship with ourselves and others and most importantly our belief in our strengths to overcome whatever comes our way. It's about owning our power NOW!
We talk about the small details that can matter as you develop your own your positive self talk practice, how semantics can actually matter and how we aren't trying to live in some glitter studded, rainbow flecked alternative reality, turning a blind eye to the struggles of life. Rather it's about embracing the uncertainty of our days and owning a belief in our abilities to handle whatever comes our way. OWNING OUR POWER!
We may not be able to control the pains and traumas of our past, present or future, but we can absolutely control how we react to them and the narrative we choose to implement in our days.
I hope you enjoy this episode, my first ever solo episode! I would love to hear from all of you, if you implement a morning mantra or affirmation practice, please tag me on Instagram @tastyyummies and you can use the hashtag #TYMorningMantras and I would LOVE to share them in my feed.

New Year Reflections At the start of the new year, for many it's an opportunity to set new goals, intentions and resolutions, for others it's a wonderful time to reflect on the year passed.
Whatever approach that you personally take, in this episode I wanted to share my personal reflections on 2018. I have found that the start of a new year offers the peaceful space to ground in and take note of the lessons learned in the year prior and to acknowledge any apparent themes that emerged.
For me, 2018 was all about overcoming my self-limiting beliefs. It was all about knowing that my thoughts have the power to create my reality and that ultimately I am far more in control of the life I am living than I had ever realized before.
On Today’s Episode * My 2018 reflections. * Why I personally choose to reflect vs. resolve. * How my self-limiting beliefs were crippling me and how I learned to push them aside. * How to question the origin of your inner critic * Our thoughts change our physical structure of our brain. * How the beliefs you have about yourself can drive your long-term behavior – your thoughts create your reality. * Don’t expect wins or losses. Plan for the wins, learn from the losses. * If you aren't ready to believe in yourself, surround yourself with people who are.
What was your 2018 theme? Do you set resolutions or goals at the start of the new year?
Remember to reach out on social media or in the Tasty Yummies Facebook Group and share your answers, along with your thoughts on this episode. Share, comment, like, review!! This helps so so much.

"When we focus on a number on the scale, we are never going to find happiness and we are never going to find balance in our life"
In episode 08 of the Between Meals Podcast, I am joined by my friend and co-host Daniele Della Valle as we talk about how to find your happy weight and unlock your confidence.
As we unpack this topic and dive into exploring what this has meant for both of us personally and in working with clients, I am not going to pretend that this is an easy shift or something that you just flip a switch on and suddenly boom, congrats girl, you are confident, proud and accepting of every bit of your body. This is an ongoing journey and spoiler alert –– this isn’t linear – there are ups and downs, there are set backs and there are tough lessons. Mostly it’s not about the end game or reaching some goal where you never struggle again, but rather it’s about honoring the work and the lessons we learn along the way.
But like so many things in life, this is also your reminder that this is a practice. It’s a practice that requires work, it requires you to show up and sometimes it requires you to dig deep into the shadowy parts of yourself that you may not be quite ready to face just yet - but like the work you put into your health, this too has incredible rewards and you
Stay tuned to the end of the podcast, where I am sharing a beautiful practice that has been so powerful for me, to support you in your self love and body confidence journey and to remind you that you are perfect, exactly the way that you are.
In this episode learn show up and do the work, how to deconstruct toxic environments and relationship and be open to rebuilding, living your life the way that you were meant to live it!!
In This Episode of Between Meals Podcast, We Talk About: * dealing with hurtful negative comments * are you really in a relationship with your food? * the problem with "cheat days", treats, indulgences, foods that are "good" and "bad" * the danger in our culture's perpetuation of "you aren't good enough - you need to change" * exercise as a tool to feel good, not to obsessively fix "a problem" * unpacking the narrative of "You Aren't Enough" * learning to love your body and find your happy weight * where do you get started when you feel there are a million things in front of you * trusting in and honoring your individual journey * navigating change when not everyone is on board * resistance and leaving toxic relationships - cling to those who are supportive and believe in who you are trying to become * the importance of community * what is your WHY? What are you trying to achieve? * what can you do about self sabotage? * unpacking the narrative and the external expectations of what "should" be * society's construct ideals of unattainable goals, "nirvana" "bliss" "perfection" and how it benefits from us constantly seeking to want to be "better" * loving your body, without shame and apologies * What are we trying to achieve? * mission over metrics * first steps as you start your journey of finding your happy weight * managing the expectations of others and setting boundaries * learn to SAY YES
AND MORE!
And of course, as always, we finish the interview portion of the show with a fun game of Would You Rather? and stick around for the wrap-up where I share a beautiful practice to support you in your body confidence journey. The holidays are upon us once again and wooo buddy, there's a lot of noise right now. People telling you HOW to create the perfect guilt-free holiday menu and the best workouts to burn off ALL those calories. There are the warnings about not "going off track" or "ruining everything you have worked so hard for all year long" – ya'll spoiler alert – this is not how it works!!
I have been there, the holidays can certainly bring up feelings of fear and it can trigger concerns that you will be sent into a spiral after one indulgent meal or that with one day you will undo all of your progress. Then of course, there is the other extreme, the binge eating, the feelings of scarcity, the removal of responsibility and the urges to eat things that you KNOW will make you feel bad, just because it's "one day". In both extremes it's important that you recognize you are giving up your power.
The most important thing to remember is that YOU are in control. You hold the responsibility to make the choices that are right for you. Whatever those may be. There is no right or wrong answer or some perfect formula for how to do it all correctly. But, if you can slow down, listen to your intuition and remember that YOU hold the power to choose what is worth it for you and what isn't. From my own personal experiences, with that realization and in knowing that ultimately I get to CHOOSE what I want – comes an incredible amount of relief to just navigate the holidays like any other day.
Join Cristina Curp of The Castaway Kitchen and I as we have an honest conversation, where we chat all about how we navigate the holidays, we share some of our tips on how to avoid the extremes and not letting it all go to shit after one meal or being so extreme in your approach that you feel stuck, restricted and resentful that you aren’t even present at your holiday celebrations. We chat about creating new traditions, navigating the questions from (usually) well-meaning family and loved ones. Most importantly we want to remind you to stand in your power, to take responsibility to own your choices and reframe the narrative. Ultimately we want to remind you are the one in control, not the food, not your family, not traditions or the holiday - YOU!
This should be a magical time of year, where you deserve to relax, enjoy yourself, to be happy and merry while you celebrate old traditions and create all new memories!!!

Between Meals // Bites Episode 07 is the final in the 3-part series all about Motivation, Priorities and Small Steps. Based on your feedback and requests on these topics, we pulled together this series that I am so excited to share with you all.
In the first episode we talked specifically about motivation, what exactly that means and some ideas on how to critically investigate what you are doing that IS working and what you are doing that IS NOT working, so you can have some clarity in the process of getting to whatever it is that you seek for yourself and have an understanding of what exactly is acting as a barrier. In the second episode we talk all about priorities and making time so there is less pressure on seeking external motivation and needing willpower and there is more focus on creating systems and a process. It's about creating habits that can one day be effortless, no negotiations needed.
After the checks and balances of the first two episodes, in this final episode we are chatting all about small steps and just diving in and getting started! All it takes is one small step. One step is action and action is momentum and this is what creates movement, shifts and change.
We are talking about the small steps, just doing a little something. Not always focusing on results or goals and instead creating habits.
ARE YOU READY TO COMMIT TO A FEW SMALL STEPS?
WHAT IS ONE SMALL STEP YOU CAN TAKE TODAY?

Between Meals // Bites Episode 06 is the second in a three-part series where we are chatting all about Motivation, Priorities and Small Steps.
In this second part, I am excited to be sharing a tool that I recently implemented into my own life for prioritizing the things that I want to accomplish and felt I never had time for. Plus, we talk about getting systems in place for finding the time to develop new habits that will become as effortless as the ones that are just part of every day life. No negotiations or motivations needed. Again, I think it’s important to remember when we look to create habits and focus on the small steps of forward momentum, it really becomes so much less about a reliance on motivation and it isn’t about looking for the magical super powers needed to reach huge, unrealistic goals. Ultimately you have the freedom to worry less that you are ON or OFF track and it simply becomes about living the life you've cultivated for yourself by prioritizing what is most important to you RIGHT NOW.
Stay tuned for next weeks final episode in this three-part series, where we will talk all about small steps and getting started! Show Notes and References: http://www.tasty-yummies.com/bites-06
In Between Meals // Bites Episode 05 we are chatting all about Motivation, Priorities and First Steps. Motivation is defined as your general desire or willingness to do something. Based on your feedback and requests on these topics, we pulled together a series of three mini BITES episodes and this first episode is ALL about Motivation.
Don’t forget, head back to the archives, for more conversations similar to this, like Episode 02 we talk about finding our WHY, Bites Episode 04 we talk about Shoulding All over Yourself and even within the bites business mastermind series we have plenty of discussions surrounding perfectionism and comparison that pertains to this conversation, too.

When it comes to keto, I hear the same questions time and time again from so many of you, from my clients and family members, as well I am constantly observing a general overabundance of rumors and myths. The keto confusion is SO REAL! Keto is a super trendy nutritional approach right now, with very good reason, and while I find there is lots of misinformation and misconceptions, I truly believe the benefits and potential, for so many, is getting lost in the dogma, the rules, the unimportant details and straight-up myths. I am joined by my guest Leanne Vogel of Healthful Pursuit and we take on the most common keto rumors, we answer a few questions from my readers, we chat about the keto misconceptions we encounter most often, how keto isn’t just about weight loss plus Leanne shares her thoughts on carb-ups, how to know when to do it and so much more! Progress isn’t linear, nor is it always measurable in traditional ways. In your health, in business, in life! Speaking specifically about our health, we can’t use weight as our only measure of success. There are many other ways to see results and to measure our progress, taking pressure off of the arbitrary metric-based goals, like the number on a scale, as our only measure for our meeting goals. In Episode 04 of Between Meals we talk all about celebrating non-scale victories and measuring progress in our health and in our life, in non-traditional ways and not letting the numbers define you!

Are you shoulding all over yourself? Do you find yourself in the constant trap of shame and guilt because you feel like you should be doing better?
As far as I am concerned word ‘should’ is just a nasty sneak who gently reminds us daily, that we AREN’T GOOD ENOUGH. Constantly shoulding yourself is a dangerous trap that keeps you from distinguishing what you truly want for yourself and for your life. Stop asking yourself what you SHOULD be doing and instead ask yourself what makes you feel complete happy and alive!
Check out this quick bites episode where I share some of my personal tips to stop shoulding yourself to death and check out the full post on Tasty Yummies for show notes and even more tips: http://tasty-yummies.com/how-to-stop-shoulding-all-over-yourself
This 10-Minute Grounding meditation is a guided practice incorporating a combination of breath, awareness, and visualization to connect you to the battery pack of the earth. Do this so you can draw up prana, energy, or life-force from Earth in order to become rejuvenated, revitalized, and restored. This is a great practice to use anytime you are experiencing times of stress, overwhelm or if you feel out of focus. Get comfortable and get grounded. This grounding meditation is a great habit or ritual to introduce to your daily morning routine. Though it truly can be done at any point during the day when additional grounding is needed.
Episode 03 of Between Meals is ALL about STRESS, it’s effects on the body and how to cope. I am joined by my good friend and clinical psychologist at UCLA Dr. Deborah Schleicher, Psy.D and we talk about one of life’s most inevitable challenges.
Whether it comes from your job or family life, financial stressors, stress surrounding your diet and your health or even pressure from social media – while stress may be an unavoidable part of the human experience, it’s how we handle those stressors that is most important.
Listen to learn how living in a state of chronic stress can affect our health in catastrophic ways, along with simple tools to manage both internal and self-inflicted stressors, tips for practicing self-compassion, plus expert advice on how to know when to seek additional support.

When it comes to health, I am often hit with loaded questions like: “How Can I Be Healthy?”, “Where Do I Start?” or “How Should I Eat?” Nutrition and the world of health and wellness can be wildly overwhelming and contradicting. There are so many paths, directions and goals. My answers to these questions will probably surprise you.
In episode two of Between Meals we spend time getting back to basics, we talk about where to start and most importantly the mindset work that I believe is required before you ever even start with changing habits and implementing new approaches to your health.
