I was thrilled and honored to interview the multi-disciplinary Fine Artist Jason Wagner for Episode #24 my Artist Talks Podcast!Jason started painting in 2018 following a catastrophic accident and upwards of seven near-death experiences and a series of serendipitous events… his story and artistic journey is - to put it mildly - unique. His paintings are stunning and I was shocked to learn he had only been painting since 2018.

Now Live!! My interview with June Krisko -Digital Artist from Haliburton, Ontario - Episode 23
"You learn to be creative in the moment…"
What a fabulous time I had chatting with Artist June Krisko! I've long been fascinated with her digital sketch art and in this episode June shared how and why she creates it.
Living off the grid isn't the first thing you might expect when you're talking with a digital artist. Especially as having reliable tech tools and Internet are quite important. In fact, you might think of going off-grid only when you wanted to take a break from your digital creative tools and online life. For June, it's the complete opposite… it's part and parcel of her life.
Following her decision to live off-grid to see a different part of Canada and still make art, June learned to live creatively in the moment and take much of what might throw most of us in her stride. And you'll hear how she makes it work. It was great to learn how her art, which she creates using her phone and a nifty App called Autodesk Sketch Book came about and developed and how she adapted to her environment and became more and more prolific, with an upcoming exhibition in the works. June is also exploring painting on birch bark and truly bring more of nature into her art.

I was so inspired to chat with Fibre Artist Alicia Evans and talk about how her art and how she pays homage to and raises awareness of trees and their impact on our world. Alicia crochets abstract trees (creates crocheted fine artwork organically branded with nature's gifts, including wool, bamboo, sea grass, wood, beads and more) and uses colour in her art to facilitate meaningful conversations about trees and to encourage people to stop, pause and be aware of trees and how vulnerable trees have become in our world today. It made for a fascinating and enlightening conversation… and this is only one of the topics we touched upon. With six years as a professional artist, Alicia has exhibited her art since 2011 in New York and Long Island, conducts workshops, does commissioned work and is also an Art Curator.
Alicia will leave you feeling that truly, all things are possible with art once we step outside our comfort zone, allow it in and go and be about our business as creatives.

It's live - My interview with Denise Love of 2LiLOwls Studio - Photographer, Teacher, Creative from Atlanta Georgia - Episode 20 I was so excited to interview the talented Denise Love of 2LiL Owls Studio - not least because I often use her beautiful textures in my grunge artistry. Textures are only part of Denise's work however… she's also a photographer inspiring teacher and creative entrepreneur. In fact, Denise has run a successful creative enterprise on the Internet since 2012… when an "Internet business" was yet to be a thing.
So does she have a few ideas on how to build a creative business online? You bet!
In this episode we talk about creativity and especially creativity in creating a successful business online from nothing in just about the worst situation you can imagine. That means, as creatives who want to be successful we get to hear first-hand from an artist who's being doing it a while. And that is great!

Now Live!! My interview with Pianist and Music Director Matt Craig from Toronto, Canada - Episode 19
Multi-talented artist, pianist, Theatre Music Director, conductor, singer, dancer and Programmer and science teacher… Matthew Craig has many strings to his bow.
Matt trained as a classical pianist from the age of six and over the last twenty years he's performed classical recitals, accompanied jazz, classical, rock and theater vocalists, directed and conducted countless musicals in the GTA for children, teenagers and adults. Matt's sight reading skills are amazing and he has worked with thousands of performers in large groups or individually of any age and ability.
Listening to Matt's musical arrangements for piano you are simply mesmerized and carried away with the emotional impact, they are a such joy to listen to. Matt has worked with several Children's Theatre companies, including CATS and Bravo Academy and it's fascinating to watch him direct musical productions as part of the audience. He has a way of making very complex things look easy.
And did I mention he's one of the coolest guys on the planet?
Matt is also a great friend, and from the first time I heard him play years ago I've wanted to learn more about his many accomplishments. So I was thrilled and honoured he agreed to be a guest for my Art Talks Podcast.

Guest Interview with Artist Athalie Taylor - Episode 17 Now Live! My interview this week is with Digital Artist Athalie Taylor from Tasmania, Australia! Another fascinating artist's journey, another trip down under! This time we visit Tasmania (figuratively speaking) where I get the opportunity chat with multi-talented Digital Artist Athalie Taylor. It was a fun time.
Athalie always had her own ideas about what she wanted to do, even when art school (which she had wanted to attend) turned out to be a "no-no."
Instead she took a different route and honed her skills in textiles, dressmaking and more…learning and teaching others to create things for themselves. From textiles to crafts to photography and then to digital art where she creates spectacular art on her new iPhone"… Athalie says she always had enough skills to be able to make a thriving living and do it while being different. And it flows through to her art - it's fascinating and different.

And did I mention she does all this in addition to a day job? How does she do it?

Episode #11 - Let's Talk about the R Word The R word. Rejection. Nobody likes to talk about it or admit quite how much it happens to us as artists and creatives. We always love to talk about the successes - and with good reason. Success feels good...is good. Getting rejected - not so much. It feels horrible every single time. In fact even the thought of experiencing it can scare us such that we allow it to stop us in our tracks and fear of being rejected can stop us ever creating again. Or we continue to create, it can stop us showing our work. So how can we overcome this as artists? For like death and taxes, if you're an artist you're going to come face to face with rejection and not once but many times. So what to do?
I've had a few thoughts about this topic bouncing around in my head for a while and I finally got them down on paper to make sense of them and wanted to share my perspective in this latest episode. The fear of rejection lurks even there, but only for a while.
I'd love to hear your thoughts and experiences around rejection and how you dealt with it (in particular as a creative) and especially tips to help us all cease to fear rejection and see it for what it really is.
