Everything You Ever Wanted to Know about PCOS Adrenal Health, Cortisol and PCOS, and the PCOS-adrenal connection.

Mentioned in the episode:

NAC: https://s.thorne.com/NRI4c
Inositol: https://s.thorne.com/esr0F
Probiotic: https://s.thorne.com/RaN5D
Rhodiola: https://s.thorne.com/mVyrH
Theanine: https://s.thorne.com/ABrxm

In today's episode, I'll share not just my personal anecdotes but also dive into the signs, symptoms, and the nuanced process of diagnosing adrenal PCOS. We'll also unpack the role of stress hormones, the relevance of cortisol rhythm over mere blood tests, and discuss why adrenal health matters more than we might think, especially for those of us leading high-pressure lives.

Imagine being a high-flying professional or a dedicated athlete and discovering that your unwavering commitment to success could be silently contributing to hormone imbalances. It's a paradox I see often in my clients, and in this episode, we discuss why individuals with seemingly robust drive and stamina could be more prone to adrenal PCOS. We examine the telltale signs of adrenal imbalance, the surprising connection between past traumas and PCOS, and why even the strongest among us need to heed the call to manage stress.

In the closing chapter of our conversation, we embrace the delicate dance of fertility and menstrual health, confronting the irony that conception might just occur when we ease up on our strict health regimens. I'll also introduce you to my secret allies—rhodiola and ashwagandha—and share how these natural wonders can be instrumental in supporting adrenal function. By the end of this episode, you'll have a trove of lifestyle adjustments and holistic strategies to help you navigate your adrenal PCOS

Struggling to hit the gym with PCOS? You're not alone. The dance between exercise and PCOS is intricate, but I've discovered that movement is an essential rhythm in the music of a PCOS-friendly lifestyle. This episode is a deep dive into why those of us with insulin resistance can't afford to sit it out, and how the right kind of physical activity can be a powerful ally in regulating blood sugar and safeguarding our mental health.

We all know that one size rarely fits all, and that's especially true when it comes to PCOS and exercise. Some of us need to slow down and breathe a little deeper, while others need to find that sweet spot of consistency in their workouts. This episode unpacks the myths and truths about cardio and strength training, and why a sustainable and enjoyable fitness routine trumps a rigid regimen every time. It's all about balance, rest, and not letting your exercise ambitions steal precious sleep.

I’ll share why any exercise is better than none and how to move from inactivity to activity without sacrificing joy or health.

Life can often feel like a tightrope walk, the delicate balance between health, self-care, and responsibilities teetering on the edge of overwhelming. When I was first diagnosed with PCOS, the lack of information and guidance pulled me into a spiral of health burnout. This podcast brings you along my personal journey, as I grappled with my diagnosis, found balance, learnt to build a healthy routine, and navigated lifestyle changes.

What if you could find a new perspective, one that encourages you to shift from the weight loss fixation and acknowledge the complexities of PCOS? A crucial turning point for me was realizing that the information out there was far too narrow, focusing primarily on shedding pounds. I decided to return to school, gain more knowledge, and today, I share my wisdom with you. We explore the importance of balance in your diet, lifestyle and mind. I discuss the challenge of finding restaurants that cater to your needs, and the importance of building a repertoire of healthy meals. I also share the importance of mindset and celebrating small victories, as well as the role of reframing in transformative processes.

But it's not all about what you eat, it's also about what you consume mentally. The information overload can often lead to health burnout. How then, do you sift through the noise, and unfollow accounts that do not resonate with you? This episode invites you to reflect, to understand the cyclical nature of engagement, and to prioritize self-care, especially for those with childhood trauma or perfectionism tendencies. We discuss my personal experiences with fitness and treating myself as a priority. Tune in and discover how to navigate the complexities of living with PCOS, the importance of self-care, and the power of a balanced life.

What if the secret to unlocking your full potential in work and life is as simple as time management and self-care? Join us on a journey as we explore these vital topics with Renee Claire of Renee Claire Consulting. Renee shares her wisdom on preserving energy, setting boundaries, and incorporating self-care into our busy lives. She brings to light the importance of offloading draining tasks, breaking down money-related limiting beliefs, and shares actionable strategies to help women running businesses as well as those with PCOS.

We also dive into the deeper layers of self-care, including setting boundaries and creating routines that prioritize your wellbeing. Renee introduces the concept of time blocking to help with focus, and discusses how childhood trauma can sometimes prevent us from taking care of ourselves. Together, we challenge these narratives and share strategies to foster a lifestyle that prioritizes sleep, movement, and healthy eating.

Amber shares her personal experiences with diets and how our nutritional needs change as we grow older. We discuss the crucial importance of embracing change, learning from mentors, and charging a fair price for services. Above all, we underline the significance of self-care, movement, and sleep in maintaining optimal health and productivity.

Today we're covering a highly requested topic: weight loss in PCOS! Specifically, I'm going to cover why it actually is harder to lose weight and what can be done.

Today's discussion focuses on the interrelationship between PCOS, insulin resistance, and weight loss. You'll learn how insulin, a hormone that cues your body to store fat, can become a barrier to your weight loss journey. We're also shedding light on leptin resistance and its role in intuitive eating, which many with PCOS find challenging.

In the latter part of our conversation, we delve into the roles of stress hormones, chronic inflammation, and insulin resistance in PCOS. Grasp how to strike a balance between activity and rest, understand the role of food sensitivities in inflammation, and realize the importance of breaking the leptin resistance cycle.

You'll also learn why measurements and progress photos can be more effective for tracking body composition changes.

You've likely heard the two conflicting sides of the gluten and dairy free debate for PCOS. Each side is pretty entrenched and seems very certain! Some people will tell you that going gluten and dairy free is totally unneccesary and even harmful, while others will tell you it absolutely changed their life!

What's the real truth about this issue? Today I'll talk about just that from the evidence based perspective of a functional nutritionist. I'll talk about the reasons why this conversation seems so black and white online (and a little of the content creator perspective) and then I'll discuss the reasons why it might help or harm and help you figure out whether this is something you need to do for yourself.

If you've ever been curious what the actual truth on this topic is, this is the podcast to listen to!

This week I'm talking all about self-sabotage- what it is, why we do it, what it's really about, and how to address it.

Self-sabotage is so common in the health world and stems from deeply held inner beliefs. If you've ever felt like you keep starting things but can't finish them, this may be why.

After years of seeing this firsthand, helping people through it (and living it myself!) this is what I believe is at the self-sabotage core and the best way to put those behaviors behind you.
