In this FuelRadio episode, host Rod Janz reconnects with his friend Terry Barkman, who is writing a book on leadership and team building. Terry discusses his inspiration, drawn from years of working on successful teams and coaching through sailing. He emphasizes that effective leadership can come from a place of flow and ease, not just hard work, and highlights the need for companies to invest in team-building, communication, and attitude.Terry also shares his experiences in coaching and how he approaches inner work using techniques like Internal Family Systems (IFS) to help individuals recognize their inner protectors. His approach to leadership and teamwork is shaped by his sailing background, where he uses sailing as a metaphor for balancing attitude, communication, and teamwork—the three pillars he believes drive successful teams. The conversation explores the importance of self-care, the limitations of the industrial-age mindset on productivity, and the value of innovation over traditional hard work. Terry also delves into how his improv training complements his public speaking, keeping him agile and present in each moment.
On our latest FuelRadio episode, we delve into George Cuellar's unexpected shift from veterinarian to leadership coach. Drawing inspiration from "The Fifth Discipline Field Book", George shares his passion for "personal mastery" and the profound questions it raises. He highlights the significance of understanding business culture and the essence of shared vision. A game-changer for George was the Enneagram, reshaping his self-awareness and driving him to professional coaching. With a coaching philosophy rooted in deep listening, he underlines the parallels between business and sports coaching. Tune in for insights on adaptability, continuous learning, and the essence of true connection. For more see fuelradio.com

Rev. Donna Dinsmore: An imaginative exercise for someone who is in the middle of a conflict.
This contemplative practice is especially beneficial for someone who is in the midst of a conflict. or an uncertainty. And I think it's especially clarifying for a leader who actually has to do something about this conflict or uncertainty.
Our guest today is Donna Dismore.
Donna was raised in a small farming community in northern Maine, taught choral music in the South Carolina public schools for 17 years, and moved to Vancouver, BC in 1996 to read and write at Regent College for a couple of years. Twenty-six years later she is an ordained minister in the United Church of Canada and will "play in any sandbox that will have her."
Donna has consulted for and with communities in New Zealand, Newfoundland, Washington, British Columbia and Alberta, mostly in the areas of worship, music and group discernment. Preparing and facilitating retreats that are organic to the group is one of her greatest joys.
Donna is passionate about delving into the spirituality of change for congregations and groups of any kind. She is a partner in the SoulStream Community, currently a Transitional Minister at Brighouse United Church in Richmond, a voracious reader, and a lover of her canine companion, Tucker.
During this conversation, we discuss Donna’s early spiritual influences

Mike has been licensed as a real estate professional in the Fraser Valley, since 1987. For 21 years he was a local Re/max associate and in May 2021 he moved to Royal LePage Northstar Realty to be a little closer to home.

The prayer of imagination with the story Zacchaeus with Esther Hizsa.
Esther says the exercise is not about studying the story. It’s about putting ourselves in the story, letting it unfold, and seeing what happens.
Esther reads the story and then invites us to imagine ourselves in the story. What do we see? What do we hear? What is it like to be noticed and spoken to by Jesus?
My guest today is... Esther Hizsa
"Just sit there and let me love you," Esther heard God say to her in silence many years ago. "That invitation anchors me to this day, and I hope that in my writing and in spiritual direction and retreats, others will hear God's loving invitation too."
Esther is a writer, spiritual director (trained through (SoulStream), and co-facilitator of SoulStream’s Living from the Heart course. Deb Arndt offers the following exercise…
Start with prayer and breath and become centered in your own body.
Become attentive to what you are hearing in the soundscape around you. Give yourself over to the sound that is coming to you right then.
What surfaces? Is there something there to pay attention to? In Deb‘s case, it was a sound that annoyed her Remain there. Make room. Don’t force a connection or an application. What surfaces that might need some attention?
Choose how you want to end it - read something, be grateful.
Play with the exercise above. Let it morph into your own experience.
My guest today is Deb Arndt. Deb’s background is in education, spending 18 years in the high school classroom. She has served as a Pastor of Spiritual Formation, offered many workshops and retreats, and continues to companion others in spiritual direction. Sue guides us in a reflection on Mary Oliver's poem "The Geese." She also recites the prayer/poem "Silent God" by Edwina Daily. During this reflection, Sue invites you to pay attention to what attracts your heart in the poem. Is there an invitation? How might this poem nurture your life?

Div. from Tyndale Seminary, Toronto, ON, and is a graduate of Tyndale’s first Spiritual Direction Practicum. May I offer kindness and safety in ways that they weren't offered to me. There is no justice in denying others things I was denied.
As the day progresses, ask Spirit, why that person came to mind?

We met quite a number of years ago now (10 years ago?) and one of the highlights of every gathering for me is spending time in conversation with Mary. She’s such a warm, loving, caring, and attentive person.
From what I know, Mary is a Spiritual Director, plays the harp, is an actor and an amazing storyteller, is a passionate gardener, and artist, and recently started attending a Quaker gathering which is a return to her childhood spiritual roots. As far as service to the community, Mary is part of an organization that supports indigenous people who are in recovery.

Telecare Crisis & Caring Line is hosting “Love Listens” February 17, 7:00 p.m.--a virtual event focused on active empathetic listening for better relationships. While the event takes place during the week of Valentine’s Day, it applies to all close relationships. Telecare is a faith-based registered charity based out of Abbotsford where trained volunteers use empathetic listening to support callers who are often in estranged relationships.
“As media studies show, our digital technologies permit us to communicate with many, thinly, and more and more the same way when we are face-to-face,” states Bill Strom, Telecare’s executive director and the event speaker. Evidence of this is the global downward trend in empathy – the ability to see and feel from another person’s perspective—and fewer close friends’—now just 1.9 on average.
The event presents three ways we can approach relationships and how good and poor listening habits spill from each. Attendees will also consider barriers that create shallow listening and practical tips for fixing that.
Attendees can anticipate break-out room discussions, offering “chat” feedback, and enjoying humorous videos during the 75-minute event. Ideally, people will attend with a friend or close relative—even the entire family. It is intended to be a fun time.
Strom also serves as professor of communication at Trinity Western University specializing in close relationship interaction and will share from a recently published study, “Do Moral Communicators Make Better Listeners?” He found that the loving virtues of faithfulness and wisdom rate as well as one’s personality and attitudes in explaining who listens well.
The event is free with the option to donate to support Telecare, a registered non-profit B.C. Society. Those interested in attending “Love Listens” can register online at www.telecarebc.com. While registration is free, a $25 donation is suggested.

This is the time of year where people reflect and project about the kind of upcoming year that they want to have. And as I think about this upcoming year, what keeps surfacing for me is that I'm being drawn to spend more time practicing silence.
I have to admit that I’m not super excited about practicing silence more. There are a lot more fun things to do! At the same time, I know it will be good for me.
Silence is a practice that will change how I show up in the world. Whenever I have consistently practiced silence in the past it has always brought about more peace in my life. As I practice silence this year I also anticipate being more present, and open to others and reality.
The practice of silence isn’t limited to the absence of sound. It can also be experienced as emptiness, awareness, nothingness, formlessness, and spaciousness. [1] Also, I sometimes experience silence as stillness, just being, and as a gap or a void.

Happiness (like love) is a choice! Today. I want to invite you to consider the question. Do you want to be happy? Or do you want to be right?
I remember being asked years ago by the facilitator at a personal growth seminar, “would you rather be right, or would you rather be happy?” I find that question to be as pertinent today as it was back then because I still want to be right at times, even when it might unconsciously hurt a relationship.

This week, I'd like to invite you to consider the practice of savoring.
Savouring reminds me to slow down and to really enjoy life. I want to even savor the mundane things of life. Doing so enriches every aspect of my life. Savoring is one of those things that is not necessary, but can be so beneficial. It's just a practice. When we savor we are actually practicing being aware, and being aware is so vital to our spiritual lives and to our wellbeing.

Brendon Watt once subscribed to the idea that in order to be happy, you have to fit a certain mold and follow a set path in life. He was the opposite of his true self and felt as if he was in hiding. This led to him being severely depressed and almost hitting rock bottom.
Now, Brendon is a successful entrepreneur and author and is passionate about showing people that fitting in is not the secret to happiness and that unhiding who you are is the key to feeling at peace in yourself.
DURING THIS DISCUSSION WE TALK ABOUT

In this episode, we visit with Ashutosh Priyadarshy the founder of Sunsama. Sunsama is the daily planner for elite professionals. Organize everything you need to do today in one place. Tasks, meetings, emails, you name it. I've been using it and loving it. Listen in and find out more.
Glenn Livingston, Ph.D. is a veteran psychologist and was the long-time CEO of a multi-million dollar consulting firm that has serviced several Fortune 500 clients in the food industry. You may have seen his (or his company's) previous work, theories, and research in major periodicals like The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The Chicago Sun-Times, The Indiana Star-Ledger, The NY Daily News, American Demographics, or any of the other major media outlets you see on this page. You may also have heard him on ABC, WGN, and/or CBS radio, or UPN TV.
Disillusioned by what traditional psychology had to offer overweight and/or food obsessed individuals, Dr. Livingston spent several decades researching the nature of bingeing and overeating via work with his own patients AND a self-funded research program with more than 40,000 participants. Most important, however, was his own personal journey out of obesity and food prison to a normal, healthy weight and a much more lighthearted relationship with food.

Jenny was born and raised on the west coast in Abbotsford, BC. Having briefly lived and ran in Alberta during my Bachelors of Physical Education and Recreation I was happy to return to British Columbia to complete my Masters of Occupational Therapy. Running got me through school as a form of stress relief and community engagement.
Since finishing school I have taken my running further completing various half marathons, short and middle distance trail races, and ultra-marathons. Further, I have become more competitive in my racing and trained to for improving my distances, speed, and strength.
I look forward to working with runners who need support to determine the right steps to take towards their goals. I love merging experiential and scientific-based knowledge to find the right approach to training and routinely use weekly goal setting as checkpoints to keep training motivating and on track.

LEADERSHIP TODAY WITH EXECUTIVE CONSULTANT JIM MCNEISH
Jim has had thirty years in leadership development and loves it more than when he started. Human potential studies, classical psychology, and organizational development underpin his professional development but it’s hands-on work with Sainsbury’s, KPMG, Sellafield, BP, RBS, Welsh Rugby, Lambeth Palace, Condé Nast and Wagamama that gets him excited. Growing and establishing Quaich is his focus for the next few years.

With Special Guest Paul Filiatrault
*In this episode you will learn about...
The Institute for Safe medication Practises and five questions to ask about your medications
As people's health improves they need to monitor their dosages in communication with their healthcare professional
Paul’s pharmaceutical career
Paul took a course of nutrition during his pharmaceutical training and found it really fascinating. A quote Paul remembers from that course is “All our problems are related to our nutritional deficiencies.”
He could see the effects of people's poor lifestyle choices in the intensive care unit when he worked there.
How medication sometimes leads to health problems.
How Paul’s outlook on prescription medicine and illness begin to shift when some members of his family had health challenges and traditional medicine wasn’t working.
How Nutrilite Double X made a big difference in his wife’s second pregnancy
What Paul and his wife gave to their children and their transplanted kids who were quite ill when they moved in with them
Omega 3’s - book “The Omega RX Zone” by Dr. Barry Sears
What Omega 3’s have done for Paul and his potential heart disease issues.
How studies show that Omega 3’s can help prevent sudden cardiac events.
Intense training can reduce Omega 3’s stores in your body.
Omega 3’s are a critical component for better health. They impact inflammation at the cellular level.
Work on getting real food into the diet, however, to get to the doses of Omega 3's that we need we can’t get it all through the food that we eat
The sea is a bit of a sewer so you need to know your source and the processes of your supplier.
Tips from Paul
1_ It’s your health and you have to take care of yourself. Take responsibility.
2_ If you don’t have a flat stomach you want to have a flat stomach. When you have fat you are chronically inflamed because you’re fat cells pulling lymphocytes that produce IL one that some peoples DNA produces. Get down to an ideal body weight
3_ Do you want to take in the nutrients that you need so that your cells can operate optimally. It takes weeks. Take them consistently for a long time. Get on a supplement that has Phytonutrients. And take Omega 3’s. Probably the most important supplement that makes up for our lifestyle sins.
4_ Make sure you get enough amino acids as well. We need to have enough protein. Protein and essential amino acids that you get through proteins are how your immune system functions well.
5_ Get a blood test so that you can have objective evidence as to where you are at.

With Matt Atkins
Back in the 90s well-known music worship leader Brian Doerksen did a musical called "The Father‘s Heart." The music was incredible and it came out of teaching that was going around at the time on the subject of the Father’s heart and God‘s love for us.
For a lot of people, including me, it was life-changing as we experienced and understood God’s love in a deeper way. I mention all of that to say that I heard Brian speak about putting that musical together and the way in which the teaching impacted him at a small gathering a couple of months ago. And I had the thought at the time that I would like to speak to my friend Matt Atkins about the subject too because Matt's been teaching on it for probably 30 years to people all over the world.
Matt is a good friend, he’s a pastor and a financial planner.
For me, this interview was another great reminder to rest and find my identity in God‘s love. I don’t know about you but I can never be reminded about this enough.
In this interview, you'll hear us discuss...
What does Matt mean by the Father‘s heart?
Living with a performance orientation and how a different view of God can help us overcome that.
How God loves us just as we are.
Doing a sense dive with the word “Father."
Dealing with our father issues and using the word "Father" for God.
The effects of fatherlessness on society
Having experiential knowledge of God not just thinking about God
The Trinity and the Fathers' heart and why it is significant.
Our emotions and our relationship with God.
Maturing in our relationship with God. Living in freedom and love is the foundation.
Matt’s calling to be a father
God as father and mother
The story of the Prodigal Son. How it has everything to do with a loving father.
The lost coin. Celebration!
The two sons.
God’s love and homecoming. Where am I getting my self-definition? Is it God’s love, or failure and shame.
How to be. Not what to do.
Quotes by Matt:
"I began to experience God’s love in the places that I thought God was really disgusted with me about."
Teaching on the Fathers' heart is as necessary as it has ever been.
The Father to the Son, "You are my dearly loved child and I am so proud of you."
"So many Christians obey all the rules of the house, but they never open the fridge and eat all the food that God has provided."
"God has always noticed and never left us. God is never surprised. It’s always the same response: God says "I know you, I love you and I have always loved you."

This week we discuss stress and emotional eating with Erin Wathen (WATH- EN) Erin is a holistic health coach, food abuse counselor, and the inspiring author of brand new book called Why Can’t I Stick to My Diet?: How To End The Food Drama. Her philosophy, simply put: Health isn’t a number on the scale or how often we exercise, but our lives as a whole. As a graduate of the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and a Food Addiction Counselor, Erin was well versed in the science behind health. As a Certified Spinning® Instructor, Vinyasa Yoga instructor, and Classical Pilates instructor, she understood the mechanics of health and fitness as well. Through a lot of trial and error, Erin found true nutrition to be the missing piece of the puzzle. It was then that Erin started her last diet, which ultimately became her food plan and the basis of her health coaching program, as well as her book Why Can’t I Stick to My Diet? The book is currently available online at Amazon and should be available in bookstores in now. Listen in as Erin and I discuss

Today I want to invite you to be still . . Thomas Merton says “So perhaps I have an obligation to preserve the stillness, the silence, the poverty, the virginal point of pure nothingness which is at the Center of all other loves.” . . It’s a pretty strong statement but you just might find that the more you practice silence and stillness the more you will be drawn to it. . . I don’t know about you, but in spite of my best efforts my mind and my body are anything but still most of the time. My mind especially, is almost always racing. . . At the same time, as Merton says stillness, silence, poverty, and the virginal point of nothingness already exist in some mysterious way. On some level we know it and stillness helps to get all of the unknowing out of the way, so that we can truly know as the Psalmist says in Psalm 46.10. . . If you’re ready to practice stillness using this Psalm, I invite you to do it now. If this moves too fast for you, take some time later on and slow it down. . . Let’s do a very quick body scan. Scan your body and remind the various parts of your body, from your head to your toes to be still. . . Remind your mind to be still. . . And now let’s use Psalm 46.10 to practice stillness and being... . . Be still and know that I am God . . Be still and know that I am . . Be still and know . . Be still . . Be . . Throughout the day if your mind takes over, or you are feeling stressed, remind your body and your mind to be still and then just be. . . Peace ~ Rod
EP 02 | 3 minutes | Practicing Presence
Today I want to invite you to let go
Once in a while, something reaches our awareness and we know intuitively that we need to let go
Fighting a with something that we need to let go of is a battle that we can’t win.
It’s not worth negotiating when something that you need to let go of reaches your awareness.
The detrimental effects of not letting go can be anger and depression.
Is it time to let go of something that you cannot change, or something or someone that you are trying to control?
When you et go it’s a form of surrender. Letting go opens you up to the help that is available. It may be the help of a trusted friend, or it may be the help of the god of your understanding.
If there is something that has reached your awareness that you need to let go of I invite you to let go now.
Let’s use our breath.
Take a breath in and on the out breath let go of everything that I have said so far.
Take a breath in and on the out breath let go of the last 24 hours.
Take a breath in and on the out breath let go of the last seven days.
Take a breath in and on the out breath let go of everything that has happened during your lifetime.
Take a breath in and let go of the history of the world and the universe
Finally, take a breath in and on the out breath let go
Peace ~ Rod

Feeling stuck? Do you want to learn how to break through to prosperity? Jolen Philbrook may have some helpful tips for based on her own experiences and breakthroughs.
Notes and Quotes from Jolen
Jolen was married for 22 years and when her husband’s mother died she says he became like Hugh Hefner. Her son felt unsafe with husband so they went through a custody battle. At the same time, she had a number of serious health challenges.
Jolen created a program to help her through those challenging times
At night she would sit and rehearse what happened in court. She made a decision to not cry and get angry anymore and she had a dream that she was standing on the stage talking to an audience of women saying that she survived breast cancer.
Jolen used visuals to shift her mindset.
She went to school and became a behaviour therapist and a hypnotherapist. She got into the coaching world.
Jolen went to a conference and heard that if you want to be an expert you need to write a book. She was told that your life experience is a story and how you got out of it is what you write your book on. Jolen’s book is called from “From Tears to Triumph: Reclaim Your Inner Power and Happiness” (See below to receive a free copy) It’s all about the steps she used to transform her life.
Jolen teaches how to breakthrough to prosperity.
Business Launch
It took faith for Jolen to hold her first workshops. She already had coaching clients that her to prove that what she was teaching worked. To get her coaching business going she started networking and talking to people.
Why?
Jolen has two why’s. The public why is that she just likes to help people and when she helps someone it helps her to feel good. She likes being of service.
Her secret why is what she learned in her cancer experience. She believes that her anger and resentment caused cancer. She also learned to clear the stuck emotions through a breathing process that she learned. So if she helps somebody release the stuck emotions she has saved one life and they don’t have to go through what she went through. So her big overall – why - is to help people, men or women, stay healthy, and for women not to get breast cancer because in Jolen’s opinion you don’t have to get it when you know how to release stuck and damaging emotions.
Tips
First two steps to the breakthrough to prosperity. Get clear on what you want, handle those limiting beliefs that come in.
And then she helps people deal with their emotions. She teaches everybody her breathing technique to clear stuck emotions and then she goes into the spiritual side She says she helps people tap into their intuition. She helps them meditate and visualize and she teaches a certain process that she calls it aligning to the energy of the desire that they want.
It’s really important to get a hold of your mindset in your emotions so that you can create what it is what you want. We are taught to think and speak negatively. To get clarity write down everything that you don’t want and then you flip it and ask yourself what you want instead.
Jolen was recently inspired by Steve Olsher’s book on “What is Your What?”.
Jolen Loves Zoom.
Jolen’s cause is supporting women in the breast cancer arena.

In this interview we discuss:
How Jeff went from meeting people in his office to providing help for them online.
Jeff noticed that in a typical intervention the interventionist helps with the intervention and then they are gone. And the family is left not really knowing what to do next and with little support and strength-based tools.
See spotlight diagram on Jeff’s website. Jeff uses a rafting on the river model. He tries to give everyone involved the skills that they need for recovery and healthy living.
Several years ago Jeff created a three-phase program and then put it online and found things that he could do online that he wasn’t able to do face-to-face such as creating a healthy supportive community. Secrets are huge in many families.
What he really tries to let people know is that this is not your shame comes from the culture the trauma comes from the culture and it trickles down.
The culture is designed for business it’s not really designed to help the addiction problem and the problem falls to families and they just do the best they can.
We talk about Brene Brown and the complicated process of how addicts and family members deal with shame. Family members tend to personalize the shame and identify with it.
Jeff provides his online tool and he also encourages collaboration with other professionals and helping people find the help they need.
It’s a program in which a family can work and heal together.
Jeffrey still has a small practice and sees people one and one at home.
As far as a Wi-Fi left-style is concerned Jeffrey is at the front end of the process. Right now Jeffrey has a foot in both worlds.
We talk about how stress is trauma too. Drugs and alcohol are used to take it away.
Part of Jeff’s "why" is the family secret's he grew up with and he is seeking to demystify that.
In the last several weeks Jeff’s program has helped someone transform their outlook and it is her family’s situation.
Resource: Gabor Mate "The Human Face of Addiction."
Software: Positivity. The platform that Jeff’s program is on.
Cause: The Betty Ford children’s program

SHOW NOTES
Jennie didn’t want her new Direct Sales venture to just be a hobby because she says "hobbies cost you money they don’t make you money."
Starting out she read as many direct sales books as she possibly could. She also spoke to other people and other direct sales companies to find out what made them successful
She was told to find a mentor. She says "why just one mentor, why not five?"
She was successful, earned trips, car bonuses, and free product.
The part of the business that Jennie really enjoyed was working with her team. She realized that what she was doing was coaching her people to success. She felt a calling to coach. She coached in her business for 6 1/2 years and then went and got certified in coaching in 2017 as a direct sales coach.
One of her early obstacles was that she ran out of parties and customers. She became a member of a networking group and managed to fill up her calendar again.
Launching her direct sales business was relatively easy because it started with a party and she loves organizing parties
The people she invited she asked them to bring someone that she didn’t know.
SOME KEYS TO DIRECT SALES SUCCESS
A key to her success was to go all in. She made the decision up front to have an all in mindset.
Another key is to treat your direct sales business like a business.
NETWORKING ADVICE
Go into networking situations and set aside the appropriate amount of time to make it work. Try and make strategic connections with people that you know are going to be your customers.
The four pocket approach to networking. One pocket is for your cards another pocket is for people that you are interested in following up on a third pocket is for maybes in the fourth pocket is for people that you are 100% want to follow up on.
Go in with the attitude that you’re going to make one or two great connections.
And a networking session provide value first by asking people "who are the connections that you need to make to make your business successful this year?" And then try to connect them to other people you know. Write down the names on their cards who you want to introduce them to and make those introductions within the next 24 to 48 hours.
A WIFI BUSINESS Running a Wi-Fi business allows Jennie to have flexibility in her schedule so that she can be there for her kids when they come home from school.
One of the ways that Jennie is leveraging her time is by working with other people who don’t offer the services that she has but are complementary to her coaching business such as a hypnotist and counselors to help with trauma.
WHY? Jennie’s why includes being her own boss and having the time to be with her kids
OVERCOMING SALES RESISTANCE Jenny helps people overcome their resistance to selling by helping them with their mindset. She says, if you’re concerned about the sale then it’s about you. Go into it with the attitude that you’re going to help people make the best-educated buying decision they can. Ask yourself "what’s best for them not what’s best for you."

Sally-Jo O'Brien helps people be braver in whatever they want to be braver in. For entrepreneurs, it’s about being braver in their approach and attitude about their business. She also helps with career transitions.
Sally Jo's friends call her "The Queen of Re-Invention." She’s had three big career and life shifts herself including her husband passing away in 2005.
In launching her coaching business Sally-Jo had to retrain herself and learn to coach. During the launch of Sally Jo’s coaching business, she was still doing some things in the food industry and those two things intersected. She started getting a lot of referrals for coaching and decided to go into that full-time.
LEVERAGE Sally Jo leverages her time through group coaching. She also leverages her time through Zoom. She uses it for coaching and for masterminds. Recently she led training for someone else’s mastermind through Zoom.
VALUES During a career or business transition you need to reassess your values and figure out what’s important to you. Ask what’s important to me now? What do I care about now? Depending on the phase of life that you are in, what's important to you is changing. Constantly re-evaluate and determine what’s important, so that you can make good decisions.
There’s also a need to develop new rituals. Some of the rituals that you had when you worked for someone don’t always work when you are working from home, or for yourself.
ROUTINES AND RITUALS Create routines and rituals that will support you getting work done. Sally Jo says it helps to be around people that help you to move momentum forward.
One another way is to check in with someone each day. Sally Jo knows of someone who texts a supporting friend and tells them three things that they are going to get done each day.
Sally Jo had a coach that helped her transition from what she was doing as she was navigating a personal loss and she found it to be hugely valuable. This experience is what ultimately led her to be a coach too.
DISCOVER YOUR VALUES To help discover your values think about a teacher or a coach that you loved and think about what it was about them that you admired. What did you like about them or what didn’t you like about them? Or think of a character in a book who is a hero of yours. What are the characteristics of that character in the book? What will help you to start to mine for values that will shape your decisions and your business.
TV SHOW VALUES Still, another question to ask to help you discover your values is to ask: if you were to star in your own award-winning television show what would be the name of the show be and why would people tune in to the show? What value would people get out of it?
CLIENT STORY Sally Jo’s had a client that wanted to get out there and meet potential clients but realized that she was hiding. Sally Jo helped her discover what was going on and that led to a breakthrough. We discuss "The Daring Way developed by Dr. Brune Brown. How shame comes into play in business and holds us back. You might be holding onto something that you think is wrong with you (shame)versus something that you did wrong. It’s an important distinction. “I made a mistake” versus “I am a mistake” (shame).
Sally Jo’s INSPIRATIONAL RESOURCE Steven Pressfield "The War of Art" https://www.amazon.ca/War-Art-Steven-Pressfield-ebookand and "Turning Pro" https://www.amazon.ca/Turning-Pro-Steven-Pressfield-ebook/. about the gremlin of resistance which is always there when you are trying to make a transition or do something that it is really important to you.

Show Notes Anthony's Story... Anthony was deployed to Iraq in 2009 and 2010 When he came home he was expecting to be excited, free and have a new life, but he suffered badly from PTSD. He found he was having nightmares and claustrophobia and was often frightened when he was driving. He eventually when I had to get his bachelors and Masters degree in health and started working at A health center While he was working at the health center he did a workshop for men on men’s health that was received very well. He also noticed a lack of opportunities for men to talk about their own health issues and out of the workshop his his coaching business and other workshops began. Why Men's Health? Anthony finds that men need to talk about their struggles. He finds that men have a lack of purpose and that they are distracted and that this takes a toll on their well-being. What is your wealth without your health? What is wealth when you can’t enjoy it. We have to take a step back and ask what’s most important? Everything that is in your life right now is a result of the decisions that you made. When men feel fulfilled they are in a better position to engage in their relationships and give more. Anthony does what he does because he’s been through so many things and he’s come to accept the things that have happened to him and he’s become a much better person because of those things. Anthony says anxiety is a symptom of other things that are going on such as a lack of sleep. My whole goal for men is self-determination and self-efficacy where they can have the motivation and the skills to achieve the desires that they want. Anthony's WiFi Business Lifestyle At one point Anthony realized that his life is more important than sitting in traffic three hours a day. That led him to move where it takes five minutes to get somewhere. His point is you choose your life. Anthony wanted the Wi-Fi life. He designed his business so that he could run it from anywhere in the world. Anthony is about to travel the world. He made a plan and made some choices to make it happen. Anthony hopes to inspire other men to live more adventurously. Anthony believes that the Wi-Fi lifestyle is all about the adventure. For Anthony, it’s about getting out there and experiencing life. He thinks because this hasn’t really been promoted for men that it’s been lost and suppressed. We get so wrapped up in work and so many other things that we lose our sense and desire for adventure. He hopes to reignite the adventurous side of men while improving their well-being. Leverage: One way that Anthony is leveraging his time is by working with clients in a group setting. What has recently inspired Anthony? Anthony’s source of inspiration is his adventure he’s going on and a documentary called 180° South. This documentary set the tone for Anthony to do what he’s about to do right now and that’s travel the world. Anthony's WiFi Business Tools: Zoom and his Surface Pro tablet. He uses Calend.ly to book appointments. Anthony's Cause: Burpees for Vets Contact Anthony on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/anthonytreas/

"People don’t really want the guru anymore. They will tolerate the guide, but what they really want is the friend who will roll up their sleeves and say, 'hey I’m here with you.' You be real and I’ll be real and will get things going a lot faster."
"We often ask 'where you from and what do you do?' but in our initial conversation, we talked about what matters to us. What’s your struggle? What’s your strength? What makes you cry?" Those are things that get us connected faster and that lets us see who we are meant to be with."
"Fly your free flag. Let people see that you have made mistakes. Lead with vulnerability as well. Don’t try to hide so much. We want to know the real you."

Is your life run by the "Tyranny of the Urgent?" A few years ago I was introduced to the concept of Bubble Time by Isabelle Mercier Turcotte the Brand Performance Catalyst at Leapzone Strategies. I know Isabelle personally and she has been a guest on FuelRadio.com many times.
What I love about Isabelle is that she walks her talk. She has a thriving coaching business and yet she takes four months off a year! One of her mantras is...
"Live your life by design not default”
...and one of the ways she does that is a concept she calls Bubble Time.

Our guest Jenny Konkin is the President & Co-Founder of Whole Way House. Jenny says, “I have now been working in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver since 2010 and I believe that every person has a story and I would like to get to know them.”
The I Get To Legacy Project
“The I Get To Legacy Project is inspired by Ron Konkin, who, in 2009 was diagnosed with Stage 4 Melanoma at the age of 48 and was only given 4-12 months to live. From then on, his perspective changed. Every day after those first four months, he said “I don’t have to, I get to because I’m still alive!
“Ron carried on teaching and speaking to thousands for the next four years, and when he passed away on December 25, 2013, he had built an incredible legacy of changed lives.
“Each chain is hand stamped and provides part-time work for a resident who is transitioning out of homelessness. The proceeds from each Legacy Chain go to help fund the Community Building Programs at Whole Way House (founded by Ron’s kids Jenny and Joshua Konkin) as well as to scholarships for families in crisis to attend the Relationship Lifeline weekend (founded by Ron and Tina Konkin)."

Becoming still in mind and body helps you to get out of the way. It opens the door to meditation.
Music by deep sky divers.
I first met Ken Stone a couple of year's ago at a business training event in Lake Tahoe. I was intrigued by this big gregarious guy who at called himself a "healer." At the same time, even though I was on a quest to be more spiritually open minded the title of "healer" pushed some buttons.
During the event I got to know Ken and had a great conversation with him about contemplation, Father Keating from Snow Mass, CO and our religious backgrounds that was filled with laughter and even a few tears.
Since that time, we have stayed in touch. When i changed the format of FuelRadio I thought of Ken and asked him if he wanted to play. Thankfully he did! He asked someone who participated in his workshops and one-on-one calls, author, speaker Jan Carlin if she would be willing to share her story as well. Gratefully she agreed.

On FUELRADIO.com we have being telling the stories of coaches, mentors, and spiritual directors and the people they work with. Last week we released the story about Bensung Sung and Dan Lok called Moms, Mentors and Making Millions. To produce these interviews I interview each person separately. To create a story I have to cut a lot of what each person says. Dan said a lot of helpful and insightful things, so I thought I would release an unedited version of his interview.
Dan The Man Lok - Here is Dan's bio from his LinkedIn profile:
"I came to Canada at the age fourteen with little knowledge of English, no contacts and no money.
"I started my first business when I was in high school.
"My early career was marked by adversity and struggle. I got my first job when I was 16. I was a grocery bagger at a local supermarket, making minimum wage and barely making ends meet.
"That was the one and only job I ever had. For most of my life, I've been a consummate deal maker and a passionate entrepreneur.
"It's not simply because I enjoy starting and building businesses, but because of my character traits, as I believe that being an entrepreneur is a part of my genetic makeup.
"I've made millions of dollars and I've lost millions of dollars. What kept me on track through all of the chaos and a can-do attitude, approaching every challenge with the motto, "TAKE MASSIVE ACTION!"
"I consider myself a serial entrepreneur. I have been fortune enough to start, run and turnaround a dozen companies. Now in my spare time, I mentor a select group of entrepreneurs, helping them profit wildly while making a difference in the world."
A bit of a disclaimer...
I (Rod) am a big believer in the power of coaching, mentors and direction. I do agree that coaches should "walk their talk" i.e. businesses coaches better be running, or have run a successful business if they are going to give business advice. At the same time I believe that the best form of coaching holds the coachee capable of coming up with the answers to their own challenges and that a coach can help facilitate that discovery whether or not they are an expert in a particular field. For me, it's a case of "both, and."
Thanks for listening!
Both Dan Lok and Benson Sung have many similarities. They are both the children of immigrants to North America. Both Dan and Benson tried and failed several times over at starting their own businesses and they both sought out and found mentors who helped them immensely.
Dan now makes millions per year and as you'll hear in the interview, after just two short years of working with Dan, Benson is well on his way to doing the same.

Interview notes: Great blog that has been active for about 9.5 months. His reason for starting the blog was to do something he was passionate about.
A men’s style blog. with a personal development section.
“Outer style and inner confidence” is the new catch phrase for now.
In Vancouver style is real casual compared to the rest of North America. Vancouver is the most laid back out of all the cities Nicky has visited. Nicky’s belief is that style and confidence are intertwined. Better confidence helps people achieve greater success.
Nicky actually acts as a style consultant.
Nicky would always go into an interview dressed in his best suit.
The Blog has a lot of females that write in and offer style advice.
The Blog also offers advice and insight into dealing with stress. (We’ll talk more about this in Part 2 of the interview).
The sales and promotions on the blog are affiliates that Nicky believes in and offer savings.
According to Nicky, style is still new territory for men.
Facebook contest coming up for a better slogan for the blog (I kind of like Outer Style, Inner Confidence, but what do I know?)
This interview covers: - Nicky's experience with panic attacks and how he overcame them. - What did Nicky go through to escape the pain? - What are some of things that have worked for Nicky to deal with stress? - Red wine! - The work required to overcome strong anxiety
