Talking with girlfriends is our therapy, our entertainment, and our education. Join hosts Maaden Eshete Jones and Tennille Daniels for some good, healthy girl talk. Get comfortable, and maybe even ready to take some notes, because there’s always a gem! This season we are digging into radical self love through the twelve principles of healing through hospitality. Welcome to Love, Maaden: The Podcast.
The letter of the week is my favorite letter "M" and the word of the week is mindset.
Our actions begin, first, in our minds as thoughts. Those thoughts become words, those words become actions, and ultimately change things in our lives. By thinking of, meditating on, and believing in our Godly desires, we enable ourselves to see those desires come to pass by first believing in them. Shifting our mindset is an exercise in hopefulness.
Our prayer for the week is this:
God, thank you for our minds. Thank you for your will for our lives, for your divine power, and for your faithfulness. Thank you, Lord, for the opportunity to align our thoughts and desires with yours. Help me to think about virtuous things. Help me to meditate on desires that are Godly. Allow me to be hopeful and to expect the goodness that I think of. In Jesus' name. Amen.
And our practice commitment is this:
This week, I will practice thinking good thoughts. I will commit to submitting those thoughts to God through prayer.

This week's word is what this show is all about – love.
Genuine love requires our whole selves. It calls for a synchronicity between the mind, the body, and the soul. It is more than its definition of an intense feeling, and more than its description as a verb or action. Love, while romanticized as a privilege reserved for those who earn or deserve it, is a free gift from a gracious God that we should aspire to reciprocate and learn to lavish on ourselves and others.
Our prayer for the week is this:
God, thank you for your deep love and affection. Thank you for commanding us to love ourselves like you love us. Thank you for modeling for us what genuine love looks like. Help me to love like you. Help me to know my whole self and to love with my entire being. Allow me to practice that love daily. In Jesus' name. Amen.
And our practice commitment is this:
This week, I will practice loving God with my feelings, emotions, thoughts and actions. I will commit to extending that love to myself and others.A few other notes from the show:

Hey yall, hey! It's the most wonderful time of the year! This week, we're spreading joy and talking kindness.
Kindness makes use of our time, energy and gifts for the betterment of our own lives and the lives of others. It is built upon thoughtfulness, generosity and consideration. But unlike merely being nice, one cannot truly be kind without a conviction to care that comes from within. Kindness challenges us to do what’s right, even when it’s uncomfortable.
Our prayer for the week is this:
God, thank you for your Holy Spirit. Thank you for the fruits of the Spirit that we bear as a by-product of our good works. Thank you for your unmerited and unconditional kindness toward me and for creating me in your image. Help me to be more like you. Help me to be kind, compassionate and forgiving toward myself and others. Allow me to practice true and genuine kindness daily. In Jesus' name. Amen.
And our practice commitment is this:
This week, I will show myself kindness by forgiving myself for something that I have been self-critical of. I will commit to extending that kindness to others through authentic compassion.A few other notes from the show:

Our Weekly Word is Journal. This is one that we've talked about across several episodes, because it's such a powerful of a practice. Outside of the known therapeutic benefits of journaling, the practice also has a strong positive correlation to success when it comes to accomplishing our goals. Tune in as we talk about how keeping a journal has helped us execute on ideas and intentions, how its helped us process both difficult and joyful seasons, and how its given us a space to work out our prayers and our praise. Journaling has held us accountable, helped to document our progress, and lay out plans to support our purpose.
Our prayer for the week is this:
God, thank you for creating each one of us with a purpose. Thank you for speaking vision into us. Thank you for giving us the first step on our journey toward carrying out that vision. Help me to comply with what You ask of me. Help to find clarity, commitment and conviction. Finally, I pray that I would draw closer to you through it all. In Jesus' name. Amen.
And our practice commitment is this:
This week, I will take the first step toward running with God’s vision for me by simply writing it down.A few other notes from the show:

The letter of the week if I and our Weekly Word is Image. Every one of us, no matter our circumstance, was created in God’s image and should be treated with the honor and respect that is due to God’s image-bearer. Understanding that we are thoughtfully designed in God’s divine image should lay the foundation for how we perceive ourselves. Tune in and weigh in as we talk self-image, body-image, self-esteem and all the other "self" concepts that come along with it.
Our prayer for the week is this:
God, thank you for creating us in your image. Thank you for the divine in each of us. Thank you for your grace as we strive to be more like you day after day. Help me to reframe my own self image around the knowledge that I was designed by You and in Your likeness. Allow me to affirm, love, honor myself and others as the image-bearers of God that we are. In Jesus' name. Amen.
And our practice commitment is this:
This week, I will acknowledge a mask that I have worn to protect my inner child. I will commit to shedding the mask in favor of honoring my authentic self.A few other notes from the show:

Happy Thanksgiving, friends! We're back with A Weekly Word, the letter this week is H and word is Healing. Trying to fit this week's discussion into less than an hour was a huge undertaking, but we managed. Healing is ongoing, compounded and comprehensive, it's big and also very much in the little things. While we had a high level conversation here, there's so much more to unpack. If you haven't already, tune into Season 4 of the podcast as we walk thought my 12 practices for Healing Through Hospitality. They are:
Also, check out the book we mentioned by the wonderful, Alex Elle, - How We Heal.
Our prayer for the week is this:
God, thank you for the healing that we can find in You. Thank you, also, for the capacity to learn from our lived experiences and to do better. Thank you for the opportunity to recover from things that may have injured us in the past. Help me to commit (or recommit) my life to You. Direct me on my path, and allow me to find and align with those who will support me along my journey. In Jesus' name. Amen.
And our practice commitment is this:
This week, I will take the first step of healing through hospitality and “Just start.” I will commit to my healing journey by moving through the twelve practices in the weeks ahead.

The letter is G and Weekly Word is Gift. We've each been blessed with gifts by the Spirit, but in so many instances we are underutilizing them or not using them at all. How would we feel if we gave a gift and the recipient didn't appreciate it, or worse didn't even want to open it. Tune in to hear how we plan to deepen our individual practices of utilizing our gifts and what's next for each of us in that space!
Our prayer for the week is this:
God, thank you for your Holy Spirit who is at work in our lives. Thank you for the variety of gifts that we have been blessed with. Thank you for the opportunity to serve you through these gifts, thank you for using ordinary people to carry out your work, and thank you for helping us all to benefit from one another. Help me to identify the gifts that have been imparted on me by your Spirit. Allow me to use my spiritual gifts for the common good and for Your glory. In Jesus' name. Amen.
And our practice commitment is this:
This week, I will make a list of my natural inclinations and talents and identify which of those may be spiritual gifts. I will commit to exploring how to better use my gifts for the common good.

We are back for another week, and the Weekly Word is Faith. We talk about what faith is and what it has meant to us in good times, hard times, and times when we felt unsure if we even still had faith. Listen in as we discuss our specific practices for how to strengthen our faith.
Our prayer for the week is this:
God, thank you for the unmerited gift of salvation for nothing more than our faith in You. Thank you for the opportunity to find our faith simply by hearing the word of Christ. Thank you for our faith that lays the groundwork for hope, purpose, and abundance, and that acts as an antidote to fear. Help me to tap into my faith first, regardless of the circumstance. Allow me to operate in the boldness and power that is at word within me through You. In Jesus' name. Amen.
And our practice commitment is this:
This week, I will spend five minutes each day getting in alignment with God through His word. I will commit to taking a faith-forward approach to life and the challenges that I may experience.

Tennille and I are back and we're unpacking that topic of Empathy, the Weekly Word for the letter E. We dive into the different categories of empathy, how to practice it in meaningful ways, and when to re-consider our approach and our capacity to do so.
Our prayer for the week is this:
God, thank you for creating us to show compassion. Thank you for the opportunity to become more in tune with ourselves by growing more in tune with you. Thank you for helping me to set boundaries while I do the work required to manage my own burdens before I can help bear those of someone else. Help others in my circle build the emotional capacity required to serve me as well. Allow me to know myself well enough to practice compassionate empathy when I can, and to feel comfortable with taking a backseat when I cannot. In Jesus' name. Amen.
And our practice commitment is this:
This week, I will check in with myself on where I am emotionally. I will commit to addressing my own emotional capacity before taking on someone else’s burdens.

Episode 4 is on a topic that had really stretched me, especially as of late. The word of the week is Discipline.
In this season of more responsibility and greater freedom, I have had to maintain boundaries and create routines to help keep not just my work, but my self-care and social life in a healthy rhythm.
This week we talk about our strengths, our room for improvement, our lessons learned, and some that we're still learning. Tune and share! We'd love to hear from you on this one. Also, I mentioned two books that I have talked about here before but that bear repeating: Start With Why and Find Your Why by Simon Sinek.
Our prayer for the week is this:
God, thank you for the peaceful fruit of righteousness. Thank you for being a God who is not just for us, but who is with us. Thank you for developing in us a desire to be in right standing with You, and to adopt a lifestyle and attitude that aligns with Your will and purpose. Help me to hear from You about Your will and purpose for my life. Allow me to practice obedience and develop discipline in that area. Help me to be a devoted disciple of You. In Jesus' name. Amen.
And our practice commitment is this:
This week, I will dedicate time to hearing from God about what area I need to be more disciplined in. I will commit to honoring God through my obedience and discipline.

Episode 3, let's gooo! We are speaking on a topic this week that might get the saints a little in their feelings, but it is the letter "C" from my Weekly Word series on the Love, Maaden blog. The word of the week is Church.
Before we dive in. We gave major love to the Woman Evolve delegation leader and Head Church-girl in Charge, Pastor Sarah Jakes Roberts and share that we've secured our seats for next year's conference. Chiiile, we cannot wait.
This week we talk through all things church-y and not so church-y including, growth, evolution, church hurt and of course community + spiritual connection. Ultimately we desire to learn ways to be the church in every season of our lives, and stay connected with God and others.
Our prayer for the week is this:
God, thank you for your promise to be in our midst if we just gather together in Your name. Thank you for being a God who is not just for us, but who is with us. Thank you for giving us the power and authority to assemble in honor of You. Help me to step boldly into this gift, and to be intentional about inviting you into my life, my relationships, and my fellowship. Allow me to not just think of Church as a place to be, but as a way to be. Help me to be more and more like you. In Jesus' name. Amen.
And our practice commitment is this:
This week, I will invite God into my time with my friends and loved ones. I will commit to becoming the church that I need, and that will also serve those around me.

Thank you all so much for the love on season 5, it was beyond-beyond. Grateful.
We are back for episode 2 of the season, and we're talking boundaries. Shout out to our TV cousin, Tia Mowry, for her encouraging message about self love being based in boundaries. We are sending Tia all our love in this season! And shout out to our Insta-sister, Nedra Tawwab for all of her amazing resources on maintaining healthy boundaries. Find out more about Nedra's work here.
Our prayer for the week is this:
God, thank you for being so powerful and so sovereign, yet experiencing a humble human existence in the form of your Son, Jesus Christ, that we might learn from and model our lives after yours. Thank you for telling us – and showing us – how to practice integrity and set boundaries around our relationship with You. Help me to discern how best to protect my time and energy, and allow me to communicate that with others in a way that is both clear and effective. Allow me to learn how to honor myself, by how I practice honoring You. In Jesus' name. Amen.
And our practice commitment is this:
This week, I will determine one healthy boundary around a relationship – or an activity – that I’d like to protect. I will write this boundary down in a place where I can first reflect on it, before putting it into practice or expressing it to others.

Round of applause clap, clap -- season 5, episode 1 is here! And we are so happy to be back. If you listened to the trailer, you know we're diving into A Weekly Word as a two season series. If you haven't listened to the trailer... go back and do that now. You can find all the seasons, and episodes, right here.
This week we are diving into the Weekly Word series with the letter A, and the word is acceptance. To read the my full word on acceptance, check out the Love, Maaden blog here.
Our prayer for the week is this:
God, help me to find acceptance, especially when it has been challenging for me to see your will over my own. Allow me to let go of what is no longer, in order to move forward. Help me not to replay selective scenes from the past, only remembering the good times. Help me, also, not to be so out of touch with reality that I dwell in delusion or denial. Instead, I submit to you with all knowledge that your plans for me are greater, higher, and better than anything I could imagine. Allow me to glorify you through all of my life experiences. In Jesus' name. Amen.
And our practice commitment is this:
This week, I will allow myself to make room for what is yet to come by releasing what has already happened.

Hey lovelies!
It's episode 11 in our twelve-week series on Healing Through Hospitality. The next to last episode in the regular season, and it's a good one! pun intended We're getting into all the ways that we cant treat ourselves and others better through our actions, and even our thinking.
We're both leaving stuff that we're over this week. Tennille's is shopping related surprise, surprise and mine is about food surprise, surprise again lol.
While we focused a lot in this episode on doing good to ourselves, it's also important that we do good for others in our community. Our sweet friend Karyn Brianne, known in these social streets as The Fab Giver, is a super resource for this! Visit her website at thefabulousgiver.com and be sure to give her a follow on Instagram and Twitter at @thefabgiver -- she's dope.
Tennille shared another social account that she enjoys from the area, and that's @BigSchlim on Twitter. Your boy has all the relatable food reviews in and around the DMV!

It's episode 9 in our twelve-week series on Healing Through Hospitality, Rest & Reset. This is a topic that we've covered before on this show with a guest co-host back in season 2. Even still, it's so fundamental to our healing that it deserved to be on of the 12 principles and a deeper, honest discussion on how we do/don't practice this in our own lives.
Before we get into the notes for this week: "Happy birthday to us!" Tennille and I celebrated both of our birthdays over the weekend and it was glorious.
In the spirit of celebration and joy, we both had something we were loving this week. I am loving clean storage ware by W&P (check out the Porter collection), and Tennille told us about a favorite new follow @HomeboyImprovement on Instagram.

Hey girl hey! We are back with another episode. C'mon consistency! Welcome to episode 6 in the Healing Through Hospitality series: Break Bread.
Tennille and I get into cooking, comfort, community, and the power of meaningful connection over food. As always, we chatted about what we're loving. Tennille's favorite thing this week is The Pivot Podcast on YouTube. And mine is probably the same as yours if you live anywhere around the DC Area!
We mention some of our favorite acts of service that involve food, and one of mine is sending a good ole care package from Spoonful of Comfort. One thing about me, Imma send some soup! Also, over the course of our conversation we liken food to a soundtrack of our lives, as certain foods elicit certain emotions -- does anyone else remember listening to The Nutty Professor soundtrack. Just me? What about PB&Js -- do y'all still eat those? What memories do they conjure to, if any?

In January 2020 I launched an online resource, Love, Maaden, to help encourage people to find healing through hospitality by creating community in their homes. I had monthly recipes, conversation prompts, and free downloadable guides for anyone thinking of hosting. The gather starter kit included three one page guides that outlined how one of these in-home gatherings would flow from start to finish.
A month later, we would go into lockdown for a global pandemic that continues to evolve, and hampers how we interact and social with one another making this guides for gather seemingly obsolete. What I've learned, however, is that those very principles would serve as guideposts for my own self healing journey over the two years to come, and would evolve to compromise my 12 Principles for Healing through Hospitality.

We're back with more guests, good content and great girl talk! This season's format will be more interview style as we welcome guests to the table, so we thought we'd try some of the questions out on ourselves.
A Word with Maaden came from Psalms 20 this week. Like the whole chapter:
1. May the Lord answer you when you are in distress; may the name of the God of Jacob protect you. 2. May he send you help from the sanctuary and grant you support from Zion. 3. May he remember all your sacrifices, and accept your burnt offerings. 4. May he give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed.5. May we shout for joy over your victory and lift up our banners in the name of our God. May the Lord grant all your requests. 6. Now this I know: The Lord gives victory to his anointed. He answers him from his heavenly sanctuary with the victorious power of his right hand. 7. Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. 8. They are brought to their knees and fall, but we rise up and stand firm. 9. Lord, give victory to the king! Answer us when we call!
This week, I want you to identify one thing that you are unclear about, that you are scared by, that you are procrastinating on and submit it to God. Then, simply trust in the name of the Lord, and move forward with the full confidence that God is with you every step of the way!
Of course the episode would not be complete without one more question. The QOTE: "Today officially begins the first the day of the 21 day Love Series love challenge. How will you begin the week one challenge to Love God?"

This week we dive into the topic of "reparenting." We were introduced to the concept by Dr. Nicole LePera (@theholisiticpsychologist on Instagram -- follow her!), and share her tips as well as our experiences!
Before we begin, we share our favorite things from the week! Tennille's is Cookie Therapy ALB and mine include the Always Pan, Olive & June at-home nail kits, and my new Sutera Pillow.
The Holistic Psychologist describes The 4 Pillars of Reparenting as:
We also discuss where to begin in the process, and outline 5 steps to get started:
This week's Word with Maaden is about parent-child relationships. One of the ten commandments, to honor thy mother and father, can be found in Exodus 20:12 and the again in Deuteronomy 5:16 it says, “‘Honor your father and your mother, as the Lord your God commanded you, that your days may be long, and that it may go well with you in the land that the Lord your God is giving you." There are also instructions for parents, Proverbs 22:6 instructs us to "Train up a child in the way he should go; and that even when he is old he will not depart from it." We are also warned in Ephesians 6:4 and again in Colossians 3:21, "not to provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord, lest they become discouraged."
Finally, we close with the question of the episode, "Which of the four pillars of reparenting do you think you need the most attention in -- Discipline, Joy, Emotional Regulation, and Self-care? And, how do you plan to address it?"
Once you've tuned in, let us know what you think! And as always, If you like what you hear we ask you to rate, review, subscribe and share!

Welcome to Season 2, Episode 4 "Trick or Treat: Harnessing Fear for Good"
This week is Halloween week, so we're keeping the conversation going about the things that scare us. We're talking about what scares us and what we've learned from it. Here's a summary of the lessons that we shared:
The mantra from today's Word with Maaden was, "Let go, and let God." Our toxic and unhealthy fears represent our distrust of God to take care of our every need, or our belief that He doesn’t have good plans ahead for us. I encourage you to spend some time this week meditating on what the inspired word of God has to say about fear. Not sure where to start? Some verses that contain ‘fear not’ include Isaiah 41:10 (“Fear not, for I am with you”); Joshua 1:9 (“Do not be afraid…for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go”); and 2 Timothy 1:7 (“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”).
This week's question of the episode was: What are you giving to God this week?As always, thank you for listening and we hope this conversation has helped you! If It has, leave us a 5 star rating & review. Thanks, yall!

Hey Girl Hey!
Welcome to Season 2, Episode 3 "Scary Conversations: Navigating Difficult Topics"
I know we have all had to have difficult conversations. From family meetings, to breakups, to resigning from a job -- most of us can think back to a time when we've anxiously prepared for or had a difficult conversation. Yet, the fact remains that it is imperative for us to hold space for these tough conversations, so today we are going to share five (5) tips for Navigating Difficult Topics.
Above all, it's important that we make the time to process, and prepare, and then have the courage to begin the conversation.
The scripture from today's Word with Maaden was “When they deliver you over, do not be anxious or worried about how you are to speak or what you are to say, for what you are to say will be given to you in that hour” Matthew 10:19-2 Which brought me to the thought there might be one more tip for navigating tough topics, which is that we should always pray first. Before your next tough conversation, ask for God's Holy Spirit to guide your words, open your ears to hear, and soften the heart of the recipient to be receptive.
This week's question of the episode was: What's an uncomfortable topic that you've recently raised -- or will need to broach with someone soon? And if it's upcoming, will you plan to go about it any differently? As always, thank you for listening and we hope this conversation has helped you! If It has, leave us a 5 star rating & review. Thanks, yall!

And I surprised Tennille with my news of what my favorite thing is live on air. (Correction: I reference a Trick Daddy lyric, not Petey Pablo.)
Then we dig in for a great episode chock-full of gems, at least ten to be exact! On this week's episode the love of my life is back, and we share our top ten practices for a healthy relationship. Here they are:
Also, be sure to note the scripture of the week, from A Word With Maaden was Psalm 32:1 “Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered,” and our question of the episode was, "Do you think that being with someone else can make you better?" Shoot us a DM or email to answer it for us!

This episode is one of the topics that we got by special request. Shout out to our girlfriend Kia for this one! We're in the month of October, and with Halloween right around the corner it's time for masks, costumes, and playing dress up. Today, we're going to talk about the masks and costumes we wear almost every day -- whether it be online or in real life. Welcome to Episode 1: Costume Party: Image, Influence and Impostor Syndrome.
Tennille mentioned during Hey Girl Hey that she's feeling Honesty by Pink Sweat$, and wants you to check out the lyrics! She also talked about some of her favorite influencers on Instagram -- The MUA Alex's Journey to Health and Zakia of FBF Body. In our conversation on influencers, I mentioned this Buzzfeed article on how the days of being not being political on social media are over. And I definitely agree -- it's a new day.
After an in-depth conversation on impostor syndrome and how social media impacts us all we closed with a Dating Diary with Tennille and A Word with Maaden.
Tennille shared four ideas for dating In COVID:
And here are the scriptures from this week's Word:
My challenge for myself for the week is to take one thing that has been on my mind and give it to God, and then TRUST Him with it. I challenge you to do the same, whether it's a relationship issue, a health challenge, a loss, the news cycle. Write down something and give it to God, then leave it with God!
And of course we closed with the QOTE: "What one action can help you take off your "mask" or "costume" this week?" Email us at hello@lovemaaden.com or DM @lovemaaden to let us know!

Hey girl hey! Welcome to season 2 of Love, Maaden: The Podcast.
We are kicking off the season with a bonus episode, Welcome Back: A Summer Recap.
There was so much for us to process this summer, that we needed an entire episode to dive in. We talk about the good, the bad, and the ugly from quarantine to race, politics, and the loss of heroes, as well as personal triumphs, trials, and milestones. The discussion around the loss of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, especially, was full of nuggets.
Here's the quote we shared from Kerri Washington on Hero Worship:
“It feels like we’re losing so many of our heroes this year, you know, John Lewis and Chadwick Boseman, and it just is like how is this possible? And I really do think there’s something about the idea that we’re being invited to realize that our heroes are human, which means that we all have the capacity to be the heroes of our communities and our lives and our story. The time for hero worship is maybe coming to an end and it’s time for us to all stand up and serve. These singular people can’t shoulder all the weight.”
We give a sneak peek into the season ahead, too, and share that we will be refreshing the show's format with a weekly Dating Diary with Tennille and a new segment called, A Word with Maaden. Both segments will be interactive so be sure to submit your stories, questions, and feedback to @lovemaaden on Instagram and/or hello@lovemaaden.com.
Of course no episode would be complete without the Question of the Episode. This time we ask, "What daily practice will YOU commit for the next week?"
Like what you hear? Show us some love and leave a 5 STAR rating and a review. And be sure to share the show with a friend!

While the conversation was raw and real, we had tons of much needed laughs. We look forward to you tuning in, learning & laughing, and of course hearing your responses to this week's #QOTE: "How are you making sure that you still have FUN while on lockdown?"
As always, we ask that you please leave us a five star rating and review and share the show with a friend!

We're dedicating the month of May to the mamas with a special guest appearance every week! We're keeping the party going with Episode 14: Mommy & Me: Healthy Mother-Child Relationships featuring Selikka Wood aka No Ordinary Mom, Family Advocate and Podcaster.
In her own words, "Selikka is an intentional parent committed to building healthy bonds and memories with her own family, and finds purpose in inspiring and encouraging other families to do the same."
Hear her motherhood story, and how she knew early on as a teen mom that she wanted to create a childhood that her daughter would not have to heal from. Seventeen years later, now-popular terms like "gentle parenting" and "mindful parenting" are just a way of life for the Wood family!
This episode was an eye opener and full of really practical tips and tools for any parent! Selikka shared some practices that her family employs along with some books that she recommends. The first Is a workbook, Intentional Parenting by Doug Fields as well as The Five Love Languages of Children by Dr. Gary Chapman.
We had a good laugh with the week's #QOTE: "Even though many of us have heard, 'I'm not one of your little friends' on more than one occasion, we still shared fun & joyful moments with our mothers. Share one of your fondest memories with your own mother."
If you liked this episode, please leave us a five star rating and review! It means a lot to us!

We're dedicating the month of May to the mamas with a special guest appearance every week! We're kicking off the month with Episode 13: Mom Tribe: Community Over Competition featuring Simona Noce Wright of District MotherHUED and The Momference!
Simona says, "I am dedicated to supporting millennial mothers and women by intentionally creating communities (in person & virtually), to empower their motherhood journeys by sharing relatable and timely information and life stories, to equip them with financial and parenting resources, and engage them through fun social events!"
Hear her motherhood story, how she started District MotherHUED, and what she has to say about building your tribe -- whether your a mom or not!
This episode was all of some hearty laughs, life lessons, and major takeaways for women in any season! As always we all answered the #QOTE: "Drake says, 'no new friends' but we're all about our mom tribes over here. Share a situation where a 'new friend' ended up being right on time for that season!"
If you liked the episode, please leave us a five star rating and review!

Many of us couldn't have imagined what life would look like today, even just a few short weeks ago. Still, I want to challenge us to think about what life could look like in the weeks, months and even years ahead. Rounding out our April series, welcome to Episode 12 -- Reimagine: Lessons & Life After Lockdown.
Tennille and I discuss the following Table Talk Topics:
We have a little fun as Tennille shares a dating diary update. She recommends a book to our listeners too, How to Get a Date Worth Keeping by Henry Cloud, and gives her top takeaways from the read!
Join us on social to discuss. And to share your response to today's question of the day: "If you wrote a book about your life during this time, what would the title be?"
If you are enjoying the show, please let us know! Leave us a five star rating an review on Apple Podcasts. Thanks in advance!

We switch things up a little this week and open the episode up with some deep breathing and a wellness check. Try it at home! Grab a piece of scrap paper and rate yourself from 1-5 in each of the following wellness categories:
We talk about what resources we've each been careless with in the past and how we've learned/are learning to waste less. We dig into everything from the pressure to be hyper-productive to how we've tied our own self-worth to what we produce.
For today's elective segment, I share a super simple a salmon/seafood salad. Too good and so easy. The full recipe will be in this month's Love Note. Sign up here to get on the monthly mailing list!
We close out with the QOTE for this week: "What's something that you are reclaiming?" Join us on social @lovemaaden and let us know!
Thanks for listening. We appreciate you!

April is the month of the "re" on the podcast. My birthday week episode was entitle Restart: Birthdays & Beginnings, and with this episode falling on Easter Monday we decided to talk about resurrection. Welcome to Episode 10 -- Resurrect: Hope & Faith in Dead Situations.
After all that, we decided to keep things light with this week's elective segment, and went with a round of "Over It & Overrated!" We're sure you ladies would agree with some of the things that we're already sick of, being stuck in the house and all. Be sure to share on social!
Finally, for this week's question of the episode we flipped the script on our discussion and asked the question in reverse, "Is there anything from your PAST that's 'dead' but that you have still WANTED to resurrect?"Take a listen, and let us know. I can wait to hear from you!

We've said this many times before, but birthdays are really special to us. So today we're dedicating the show to just that. Welcome to Episode 9 -- Restart: Birthdays & Beginnings.
Tune in as we share:
A lot of what we love about birthdays and other celebrations is rooted in tradition. So we spend our "More, Please" segment diving into some of our favorite traditions -- whether they be old, new, or some that we've made up just for us!
We keep things on theme and close with a special birthday Question of the Episode: "What was your best birthday celebration to date from your childhood, and from your adult years?" Best use to let us know yours on social, too! @lovemaaden
Thanks for tuning in!

We're back to our regularly schedule program, talking about all the "spring things." We kicked off the month with spring cleaning and spring shindigs, both of which focused a lot more outwardly. For the next two episodes we are taking a journey inward, beginning with today's episode! Welcome to Episode 7, Spring Forward: Progress, Perfection + Procrastination.
This is a really good topic for me and Tennille, because we both have loads of experience in making progress despite perfectionism and procrastination.
Tune in to get all the deets, then join us on social @lovemaaden to answer the question of the episode, "Name something that you are procrastinating on that you will take action on ASAP?"
Thanks for tuning in! Don't forget to rate the show and leave us a review.

Welcome to our first Bonus Episode, That 'Rona COVID-19: Myths, Media & Mechanisms to Cope. Today, the two of us are putting on our Public Health hats to bring you clear and factual information on the Coronavirus Disease 2019, abbreviated COVID-19, and increasingly known in these streets as "that 'Rona." We're here to bust some of the myths and misinformation that we've heard and share a few key coping mechanisms for those of us who might be feeling particularly anxious or overwhelmed by recent events.

One question we heard recently is, "What's the difference between this podcast and our Citrus + Sugar show?" It really boils down to how specific the mission of Love, Maaden is. Love, Maaden is all about gathering people together in our homes and healing through hospitality. So we've dedicated today's episode to exactly what's at the core of the Love, Maaden movement. Welcome to Episode 6 -- Spring Shindigs: Open Doors + Open Hearts.
There are so many things that make the spring season special. We share a number of spring party ideas, starting with our favorite type of party... our birthday celebrations! Beyond birthdays, we share memories for our Sunday dinner parties and chat about a possible Love, Maaden dinner series. Would y'all come?
We share some tips, too. Tennille gives her top recommendations for the "rookie" hostess who wants to elevate her regular gathering to a bit more of a special or themed occasion. And I chime in with some special touches from past spring soirees.
Before we head into the question of the episode, we do a quick "Over It & Overrate" segment, and vent a little bit about the things that just aren't our favorite look or that have fallen flat.
This week's question of the episode turns the table a bit. We both do a lot of hosting, gathering, and event planning, so I ask that we each share something that we are looking forward to attending soon!

We're talking spring things all month long, beginning with spring cleaning and tidying up our lives and our mess. Welcome to Episode 5 -- Spring Cleaning: Tidy Up Your Life.
We start by talking about the Marie Kondo book, "The Life Changing Magic of Tidying: A Simple Effective Way to Banish Clutter Forever" and how my major takeaway from it was how once you have your house in order, you will find that your whole life will change. You feel more confident, more successful and motivated, and you free up energy to really create the life you want.
This pulls us into a dialogue about creating "good spaces" and the work that Tennille does to help get people into a good space both physically (interior design) and emotionally (heart work) through mental decluttering. I make a connection between cleanliness and my own emotional state. Specifically, reducing chaos to create calm. I underscore the importance of mindfulness and how every Love, Maaden gathering begins with a mindful moment, as well as how I practice reducing "visual noise" around our home to create more moments of peace in my day to day life. A couple of my favorite tools for doing so include the Calm App, and 52 lists for Calm by Morea Seal.
We round out the episode by doing a quick run down our top five tips for de-cluttering before we close out with the Question of the Episode: Share a mess in your life that you are cleaning up right now, that's not a physical space in your home?Liked today's episode? We're closing out our four part series on love with an episode dedicated to the love of the culture. It's an ode to Black History Month, and all the things that we love about being Black women in America. This is Love The Culture: Black Girl Magic.
We believed that it is important for us to cultivate conversations around our tables that are relevant, meaningful, and even sometimes difficult to discuss. This includes talking about our culture not just with other Black women, but with everyone -- Black men, white friends and family, people from other cultures and experiences.
Feel free to use this podcast as a starting point, and check out the February Love Note and Table Talk Topics for more! A couple of questions covered in today's episode that you might consider chatting about with friends:
And before we closed with the Question of the Episode, "What is something that you love about Black women and/or being a Black woman?" we had a good kiki with Tennille on her new segment "TD with the BS." Be sure to listen in and hit her up on the socials @tennilledaniels.

Tennille takes on a special role in this episode as the "interviewer" and represents for the single gals by hitting on all of the questions that you shared with us on Instagram about dating, relationships, and marriage.

Listen in as Tennille and I talk all things self love on this episode! We share some of the ways that we show ourselves love (big + small), dig into what impact parents have on our inner voice as adults, and what all of this means when it comes to our self-worth and confidence. I also share some sweet and fun ideas for Valentine's dinners and Galentine's gatherings.
Don't forget to follow up with us on social (@lovemaaden), we want to hear your responses to the question of the episode too! "What is one extraordinary act of self-love that you will show yourself this month? How will you be your own bae? It has to be special, out of the ordinary, and super meaningful."
Oh, and here's the link to the blog that Tennille is loving and the book that I just finished listening to by Ali Wong -- its a quick read and a good laugh. From bourgeois Betty to the ghetto, chile, get into this girl talk.

Join me and my good friend and co-host Tennille Daniels as we introduce ourselves and the all new Love, Maaden podcast, talk about our intentions for 2020, and discuss why community is more important now than ever before!
Then let's keep the conversation going on social (@lovamaaden) and at our gatherings all month long. Answer the question of the episode, "In the spirit of community, dating, and growth in all the areas we touched on today, we should consider stretching ourselves by growing our circles.
