On this week’s episode of ‘Let’s Talk Leadership’, Sandra is joined by Vivi Cahyadi Himmel, CEO of AltoVita and one of the Top 100 Tech Asian Stars in 2020. AltoVita is an end-to-end solution for modern travelers, making sure customers can maintain their healthy, active lifestyle while abroad.

AltoVita has absolutely flourished during the pandemic, almost tripling in size. Vivi has some great advice for the budding entrepreneur and shares her journey which has taken her across Australia, the USA, Hong Kong and now London.

Vivi shared lots of great insights into her leadership skills and how being an open and caring leader has worked really well for her, she is very keen on listening and filtering that down from top and taking everyone on her journey. Sandra and Vivi chat about how hiring into small companies means you really have to sell it to the employees and drive the business dream forward. Leadership is not always smooth sailing and you have to be able to act quickly and respond to that, so it is key to have a robust hiring process.

Vivi says she has found it a challenge that as the business grows, she needs champions for each department so the business doesn’t bottleneck, with her being the decision-maker. She recommends that leaders show that they genuinely care and want to learn a little bit of what everyone is doing, and gain some understanding. Charaka studied computer science, spent time in academia, and then moved into software development. His exciting time working with cybersecurity led him and his co-founders to start Panaseer. Starting as a team of 4 with @Mike MacIntyre, @Sophie Harrison and @Nik Whitfield in Nik’s basement, 6 years later Panaseer employs 60 people across UK and USA.

Charaka loves the evolution and challenge that comes with working in a start-up. No two days are the same and he is fully motivated by the challenge and stretching himself and his teams. He shares some advice for moving into the commercial world: be ready for a learning curve and think about the impact of what you are doing but remember you have transferable skills!

He has some really interesting insights about attracting the right people to work for him and Panaseer have done loads of work on their hiring process as the first impression of a start-up is so important. The company is really big on investing in the team, growing their capacity and capabilities, and ensuring their teams can bring their whole and best self to work.

Elly and Charaka also chat about managing stress and pressure. Especially, how vital it is that you look after yourself, understand you’ll never be able to do everything, and the ability to delegate. Charaka and his team went on a 3-day retreat to practice being aware of your thoughts and feelings, and the power of perspective on your mindset. Here at TP we love developing people and helping them grow into their future role, so it was great to hear how Aayush and the Greendeck team do that too.

This week on the ‘Lets Talk Leadership’ we had the pleasure of interviewing Liran Haimovitch who is the Co-Founder and CTO at RookOut.

Rookout is a Rapid debugging solution which collects data on-demand from live code and pipeline it immediately to any destination. It was founded back in 2017.

We absolutely loved hearing about Liran’s career journey. With his journey beginning when he was just a young boy when he developed an interest in coding, his passion for Tech led to him studying a Bachelors degree in Computer Science. Liran then explained to us that following on from his studies, he was involved in Cyber Security for the army!

It is clear throughout the podcast how motivated Liran is about making a difference within his industry. 

We really enjoyed hearing Liran reflect on his decisions as both a Co-founder and CTO and to learn about the things he’d have done differently if given the chance. In addition to this it was interesting to hear how Liran and his team have adapted to the current crisis. 

Most of all, it was inspiring and thought-provoking to hear Liran talk about his leadership style and his passion for people is commendable.

Sarat was very inspiring, he’s a natural entrepreneur who’s childhood dream was to become a Brain Surgeon but after 2 months at med school he decided he wanted to become a Software Engineer.

It was fascinating to hear his story from his childhood in India to having to leave the Ivy League dream behind, Sarat has a real zest for life.

I loved hearing his appreciation for his wife who has supported him through his success.

Sarat is an absolute character and we loved getting to know his story, from his first failing start-up to a frank and honest overview of the challenges faced moving into leadership.

This one is a great episode, Sarat has a great energy and has lots of advice to give!

Sandra & Elly thoroughly enjoyed interviewing Gordon Cullum who is the CTO at Mastek who are a global technology company offering enterprise level digital transformation services and software for large public and private enterprises in the UK, US and India. Gordon and his teams mission is to deliver impactful programmes of change! 

Gordon was destined to work in tech, when he was a child and asked for his first computer his father made him build it from scratch, its in his blood and his passion shows! 

Gordon gave an honest interview including how he isn't naturally an ambitious person and that he takes real pleasure in the detail so adapting to leadership took some work but he has grown to love his role and responsibilities. We loved how raw and transparent Gordon was particularly when we discussed "digital burn out" and managing the difference between pressure and stress.
