Self Defence Tactics and Personal Safety
One in three women may suffer from abuse and violence in her lifetime. This is an appalling human rights violation, yet it remains one of the invisible and under-recognised pandemics of our time.
We will cover some simple strategies that every woman, and man, should know and use to stay safer.
The best self-defense strategies and techniques work equally well for men and women, but let’s face it:
Women really need them because they’re assaulted more often than men. Statistics indicate that one in three women will be the victim of some type of violent attack in her lifetime. Women also endure more incidents of verbal and sexual harassment. Although most women’s self-defense courses focus on skills for quickly and efficiently destroying an attacker, self-defense training also should include methods for preventing a confrontation from turning physical in the first place.
Learning how to steer away from a threat may not sound as exciting as ripping out an attacker’s heart, but as they say in every beginner’s class, evading an attack is almost always superior to blocking an attack.
By learning the basics of defending yourself, you also empower yourself and increase your self-confidence. A confident person very rarely becomes a victim and your chances of surviving an attack will increase drastically.
And who better to learn martial arts from or personal safety tactics from than the Professional himself, John Bernard Will- Australia's first BJJ Black Belt, 6th degree Machado Jiu Jitsu, coach at Geelong's #1 Jiu Jitsu academy- REDCAT who teaches and devises tactical plans and workshops for such greats as the Machado Brothers, Chuck Norris etc
Melissa has a host of accolades herself but is so humble she doesn't even verse a bio. Personally I can tell you through our conversations with one of my favourite people that she has a history of being an amazing athlete in calisthenics, swimming, 35 years with BJJ giving her accolades as Australia's best BJJ female amongst her world titles.

MTHFR - Would you like to better understand and control how your genetic makeup and how it influences your well-being?What if you could improve your health by knowing if you have an MTHFR gene mutation? MTHFR is a gene encoding for Methylene-TetraHydroFolate Reductase (MTHFR). MTHFR is an enzyme found within the human body. Playing a vital role in how the body uses folate (vitamin B9). It converts the folate you eat, into folate your body can use (Folate → 5-methyltetrahydrofolate). The MTHFR gene has the information needed to make this important enzyme.Have you experienced miscarriages with no explanation? Are you susceptible to depression and anxiety with no relief or founding cause? Do you have chronic illness that never seems to improve? This may be the show to listen to. We're chatting with MTHFR AUST Expert, Carolyn Ledowsky about MTHFR, genetic issues, anxiety, depression, infertility and more. You just might finally find your answers to improve your health. About Carolyn Ledowsky: Carolyn Ledowsky is the founder of MTHFR Support Australia. She is a Naturopath, Nutritionist and Herbalist who has a Bachelor of Health in Herbal Medicine, Naturopathy, Advanced Diploma of Naturopathy, Diploma of Nutrition and Bachelor of Economics from Sydney University. She has also studied courses in Genetics at Duke University (Genetics and Evolution) and The University of Maryland (Genes and the Human Condition) - from behaviour to biotechnology). She is currently completing a Bachelor of Health Science (Naturopathy) Honors. Carolyn now sees chronically ill patients from all over the world, who have searched, sometimes for decades, to find the reason behind their ill health. Her strenghth lies in her ability to reveal layers of dysfunction and not give up until results are seen. Most of her patients have MTHFR mutations and/or associated methylation disturbances. Her mission is to make sure that every couple knows that miscarriages are often due to low folate due to MTHFR deficiiency. So too anxiety and depression can be hugely improved without drugs by tweaking biochemistryncaused by eithergenetic susceptibility and addressing environmental factors that afflict these genes. Carolyn's practice specialises in genetic susceptibility and how this contributes to biochemical dysfunction and chronic health conditions. Join us as we chat with Carolyn about MTHFR, genetics, mutations, chronic disease, infertility issues - with presentation of her latest PHD research on infertility and viruses.

In Conversation with Gabby Moore, Yoga Instructor -Yoga, Nature & Parasympathetic Nervous SystemYoga is an ancient system that offers wisdom, techniques and practices to support physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing. From the physical postures (asana) and breathing techniques (pranayama), to guidance on living (yama & niyama) and meditation, the aim of different yoga processes is to help a person achieve harmony and greater understanding of themselves and life. The parasympathetic nervous system predominates in quiet “rest and digest” conditions while the sympathetic nervous system drives the “fight or flight” response in stressful situations. The main purpose of the PNS is to conserve energy to be used later and to regulate bodily functions like digestion and urination. When the parasympathetic nervous system (PSNS) is activated, it slows our heart and breathing rates, lowers blood pressure and promotes digestion. Our body enters a state of relaxation, and this relaxation breeds recovery.Science has confirmed many health benefits of being exposed to or being "IN" Nature.About Gabby Moore:"Yoga for me, is an opportunity to give to others. My passion is to pass on the tools for you to drop into the rest and restore part of the nervous system. Allow me to take you on a yogic journey where you will emerge feeling restored and rejuvenated."Practicing yoga for almost two decades, Gabby knows the joy it brings into your life. Living by the bush in Apollo Bay with her husband and two children, she adores basking in nature. You will find Gabby at the beach having her daily dip, stand up paddle boarding or doing Yoga somewhere. After teaching yoga in Tonga, Indonesia and Australia, she found a calling for mobile yoga in her beloved local area. Travelling along the Great Ocean Road from Wye River to Johanna, Gabby delivers inspiring bespoke yoga experiences.
DEMENTIA -NATURAL PREVENTION STRATEGIES AND TREATMENT PROTOCOLS Dementia is the term used to describe the symptoms of a large group of illnesses which cause a progressive decline in a person’s functioning. It is a broad term used to describe a loss of memory, intellect, rationality, social skills and physical functioning. There are many types of dementia including Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia, frontotemporal dementia and Lewy body disease.Dementia is the second leading cause of death of all Australians and provisional data is showing that dementia will likely soon be the leading cause of death.Dementia is the leading cause of death for women. In 2023, it is estimated there are more than 400,000 Australians living with dementia. Without a medical breakthrough, the number of people with dementia is expected to increase to more than 800,000 by 2058.In 2023, it is estimated there are more than 28,650 people with younger onset dementia, expected to rise to more than 42,400 people by 2058. This can include people in their 30s, 40s and 50s.In 2023, it is estimated that more than 1.5 million people in Australia are involved in the care of someone living with dementia.2 in 3 people with dementia are thought to be living in the community. More than two-thirds (68.1%) of aged care residents have moderate to severe cognitive impairment. While we cannot change getting older, genetics or family history, scientific research suggests that changing certain health and lifestyle habits may make a big difference to reducing or delaying your risk of developing dementia.Being brain healthy is relevant at any age, whether you are young, old or in between. However, it is particularly important once you reach middle age as this is when changes start to occur in the brain. With such increasing stats, David and I will chat about natural DEMENTIA prevention strategies and treatment protocols.

Meet LIZA TRAVIS (FREDDI):Liza currently lives and works in Forrest at the local primary school in education and wellbeing support. She is a life-time lover of dance and founder of Mind Your Groove (MYG), a community dance collective based in Forrest. She has experience in various movement and dance practices including ashtanga yoga, contemporary, jazz, tap, ballet, reggae, dancehall, hip-hop, afrobeat, middle-eastern, african dance and rhythmic gymnastics. It was many years ago when she realised her passion for freestyle dancing - preferring a freedom of movement to all sorts of music without set steps or styles. With the passing of her parents whilst having young children, dance became a healer. Dance therapy and dance improvisation showed her the power of moving her body through difficult emotions.Since then she has been a regular attendee to and Ambassador of No Lights No Lycra, co-creator of Random Acts of Dance RAD (outdoor freestyle dance experience with costume, all ages), and performed in various of shows of choreographed and freestyle dancing at Trades Hall Theatre, Brunswick Town Hall, Coburg Night Market, Dancehouse, The Village, Falls Music Festival, La Mama Theatre, helped run the Mind Your Groove Dance Roadshow and most recently worked and performed with Wild Honey Performing Arts at Winter Wild Festival in Apollo Bay, Torquay Night Market, Birregurra Hall opening and Elevate, Walking with Giants project, dancing and walking on stilts. She has helped direct the last 3 school plays for Forrest Primary School, and has run children’s dance workshops around the area, having started a business with friend Ruby Jackson before Covid. She is currently studying a Graduate Certificate in Creative Therapies which is supporting her intuitive and felt experience of creativity, especially dance, being healing for the whole being. This course is showing her different ways to introduce dance for healing and is bringing her new learnings to Apollo Bay to dance with all ages once a month.Dance is such a vast discipline, and she loves to explore the many many ways to move, but overall she believes in the benefits of freestyle dance. A completely open dance form, free from any restrictions or distinctions of movement it is a highly personal act, freestyle is always your style, your groove - you can ebb and flow with others, you can sync and react but your dance is always your choice, your expression - it’s your life, your experience and your self that create the way you move your body when given nothing but freedom and music. Its the dancer’s self portrait and a way to allow the body to heal itself. This is the essence behind MYG, however in this life and culture it can be very intimidating to just close your eyes and dance. This is where DANCES TO MIND YOUR GROOVE comes in - a series of dance therapy informed dances that gently encourages dancers to move their body, find their own groove and mind it.

Combining her own spirit and soul evolutionary experience from life experiences, Jen draws on her clumsy and funny journey as a Visual ARTIST to Art Therapist and includes Intuitive “Play with Paint” Parties during these Retreats – helping adults unlock more of your own true sense of fun and even artistic potential. It's a NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY process, and it's social and fun and will surprise, honour, reflect and respect more of your true self. She also heads up an Australian based Charity that incorporates ACTIVE PHILANTHROPY when possible and she opens up volunteer opportunities in to the Retreat Schedule, giving back whilst gaining so much, and leaving a positive impact as well as a minimal footprint wherever we go. This was Jen's dedicated work, with indigenous communities all around the world, up until the Pandemic shut down in 2020. Now she's focussing on Australia and helping to strengthen the connection between our original people and the colonised. Jen is currently teaching and sharing Ancient Wisdom / Earth Connection programs in Early Learning Centres for 3yo+ and is thriving in the pure joy, laughter and curiosity children readily possess. She’s also extending beyond art therapy and is currently completing Sound Therapy studies that will be based on whale calling she will record in person this coming migration season. She says “It is time for the restrictions, uncertainties and limitations of the colonised mind to retire and it’s the perfect time to re-learn, starting with how to better align your life in harmony with nature, like the longest continuing culture in the world has achieved, and reconnect with your own ancestors and their earth and celestial wisdom too.”

CONSCIOUS PARENTING - Being the best you can be with World Famous Clinical Psychologist, Dr Shefali.Parenting does not come with a manual and there are many times, I am sure we all feel the shortfall. In this deeply revealing talk, Dr. Shefali shines a light on the many uncomfortable truths of being a parent and explores the possibility for modern parents to embrace a new paradigm of parenting... ABOUT DR SHEFALIEndorsed by Oprah as "revolutionary" and "life-changing", New York Times bestselling author and owning a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Columbia University, New York, Dr. Shefali is the foremost expert in the field of conscious parenting. Dr. Shefali's journey into this radically new parenting paradigm arose from her own experience as a parent herself. Reacting irrationally to one of her then 3-year-old daughter's tantrums, Dr. Shefali became deeply self-aware that her parenting frustrations were never about her child. Rather, it was about her own unmet childhood needs that she was unconsciously projecting on her own daughter. Merging western psychology and eastern philosophy, Dr. Shefali espouses a more conscious approach to parenting that centres around honoring our children as sovereign beings, creating real connections with them, and most importantly, raising our own consciousness as parents.

The Wellness Couch chats with The Natural Nutritionist, Steph Lowe about women's most asked questions coming from our patients about their iron status. The Haemoglobin molecule, essential for carrying oxygen throughout our system, contains 60-70% of the body's iron. From the fire, rose the Phoenix and she forged a new book through her soul travels named, Triggered as Fck.Have you been emotionally. triggered Over the last few years? Might be a great time to listen for some inspiration. ABOUT:Cate Dubois, formerly a resident of Apollo Bay for 35 years, five years ago uprooted her life and made the move to Bali, Indonesia.Away from family, friends and everything and everyone she knew, she created a new vibrant life. Bali healed what needed healing and what emerged from that space is truly exciting. From a new unexpected marriage, renovations, building projects, sound healing, new healing modalities and charity work, and finally a writer, and a separation it has been a wild ride. One of the great creations born from this time of rediscovery was her book, Triggered as fck. You know you love your child - and you do much for them to prove it. But how can you make sure your child knows it? Discover how to speak your child’s love language in a way that he or she understands.
Dr. Gary Chapman (one of the best world wide marriage counsellors) teams up with Psychiatrist- Dr. Ross Campbell to help you express love in a Language your child understands.:
Discover your child's primary language—then speak it—and you will be well on your way to a stronger relationship with your flourishing child.
Does your child speak a different language? Sometimes they wager for your attention, and other times they ignore you completely. Sometimes they are filled with gratitude and affection, and other times they seem totally indifferent. Attitude. Behaviour. Development. Everything depends on the love relationship between you and your child. When children feel loved, they do their best. But how can you make sure your child feels loved?
Since 1992, Dr. Gary Chapman's best-selling book "The 5 Love Languages" has helped millions of couples develop stronger, more fulfilling relationships by teaching them to speak each others' love language. Each child, too, expresses and receives love through one of five different communication styles. And your love language may be totally different from that of your child. While you are doing all you can to show your child love, he may be hearing it as something completely opposite. Discover your child's primary language and learn what you can do to effectively convey unconditional feelings of respect, affection, and commitment that will resonate in your child's emotions and behaviour.

Over this past week, we have been lucky enough to have Denny Johnson as a house guest. The wealth of information and perception this soul has is phenomenal. Now we'll pass this onto you.
Denny Johnson, Seattle, USA is an explorer, researcher, writer, and international teacher. He established the Rayid Model as one of the most powerful modern tools for understanding personality and behaviour, as well as individual, familial, and relationship patterns and dynamics. Over the years, Denny has conducted thousands of personal consultations, has interviewed on hundreds of radio and television stations worldwide, and has taught in numerous countries.
The iris of the eye is like a fingerprint. It is a long term genetic pattern, a kind of blue print of inheritance. If you up close at the iris of the eye (the colored part encircling the pupil), you will notice each one of us have either dots, markings, streaks or rounded openings in the openings of the fibres. Like a fingerprint they are all presented differently. These characteristics that we find in the eye provide the key to understanding your behaviour and relationship patterns. The types of markings and variations between your left and right eyes each reveal different facets of your personality and epigenetic pattern.
The Rayid Method of Iris Interpretation is not simply concerned with describing one's personality. In fact Rayid's primary purpose is to free the individual from any limitations associated with that personality. The structure of the iris is also a reflection of the individuals potential, revealing character strengths and aspects of the personality that are underdeveloped. Rayid uses the information contained in the iris in the eye to affirm and strengthen the innate character of the individual. Once you understand who you are, how you function and your operating system- this can be a very freeing experience to help you live life to the fullest.
By increasing understanding and love for yourself, your family, and the families of others … vital health, well-being, and personal success are enhanced.

MTHFR
Would you like to better understand and control how your genetic makeup influences your well-being?
What if you could improve your health by knowing if you have an MTHFR gene mutation?
MTHFR is a gene encoding for Methylene-TetraHydroFolate Reductase (MTHFR). MTHFR is an enzyme found within the human body. Playing a vital role in how the body uses folate (vitamin B9). It converts the folate you eat, into folate your body can use (Folate → 5-methyltetrahydrofolate). The MTHFR gene has the information needed to make this important enzyme.
Have you experienced miscarriages with no explanation? Are you susceptible to depression and anxiety with no relief or founding cause? Do you have chronic illness that never seems to improve?
This may be the show to listen to.
We're chatting with MTHFR AUST Expert, Carolyn Ledowsky about MTHFR, genetic issues, anxiety, depression, infertility and more. You just might finally find your answers to improve your health.
About Carolyn Ledowsky:
Carolyn Ledowsky is the founder of MTHFR Support Australia. She is a Naturopath, Nutritionist and Herbalist who has a Bachelor of Health in Herbal Medicine, Naturopathy, Advanced Diploma of Naturopathy, Diploma of Nutrition and Bachelor of Economics from Sydney University. She has also studied courses in Genetics at Duke University (Genetics and Evolution) and Th eUniversity of Maryland (Genes and the Human Condition) - from behaviour to biotechnology).
TREVOR HENDY AM
ABOUT: Hendy currently holds the all-time record of six-time Australian Ironman Champion and four-time World Ironman. Trevor Hendy is an international Keynote Speaker, director of the Lifechanger Foundation for youth and author of The Bootcamp for the Soul. He is a highly renowned Soul Coach, guiding some of the World’s leading CEO’s, Community leaders, Actors, Musicians and Athletes. Known as one of Australia’s fittest ever athletes and greatest Ocean Ironmen, he has been inducted into the Australian Sporting Hall of Fame and honoured as a member of the Order of Australia for his services to the community. His motto is “bring it into now and never under estimate the power of who you are”. Trevor also does personal Zoom, Skype and in person one on one sessions.
Hall of Fame Iron Man/ Surf Life Saving Champ: Trevor Hendy is unchallenged as ‘The Greatest Ironman in the World’ – a title that sits fittingly with the man who took up the sport as a ‘nipper’ in 1976, and went on to dominate it into the next century. Competing for the Surfers Paradise club on the Gold Coast, Hendy has won six Australian Open Ironman titles, surpassingrecord. His string of Queensland titles stretch back to the mid 1980s, and in 1994 he claimed his fourth consecutive World Ironman title in the United Kingdom, in a contest involving many qualifying rounds and intense competition.
As four-time winner of the Uncle Toby’s Super Series, Hendy was the man everybody wanted to beat. He won the series in its first year in 1989/90, and backed this up with outstanding performances during the 1990/91, 1991/92 and 1993/94 seasons. Other notable performances by Hendy include winning the 1992 Molakai to Oahu World Championships, and dominating the world Malibu championships in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
Hendy achieved a near perfect point score of five first placings and two second placings out of seven races in his 1993/94 win – a score never before achieved in the history of the series – and one which will probably take many years to surpass. In that same year, he won the Australian and world Ironman titles. Hendy currently holds the all-time record of six- time Australian Ironman Champion and four-time World Ironman.
After setting records that are yet to be matched, Hendy retired from Ironman racing in 1997 to concentrate solely on pushing a kayaking career with the dream of competing at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. He was a member of the Australian champion K4 1000 team to win consecutive national titles in 1997 and 1998, and a bronze medal at the World Championships in Germany. However, upon returning from the 1998 World Championships, Hendy decided to retire from professional sport. While he did compete in Ironman contests after this announcement, his focus turned to coaching and communicating as a motivational speaker and commentator.
Hendy was made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 1996 for his services to surf live saving and the sport of swimming/Ironman titles.
But he's so much more - Listen in to discover Soul Trevor Hendy in this magical hour.

Rahni chats with us about How The Vagus Nerve is imperative in the optimisation of our health.
The vagus nerve is a really fundamental part of our autonomic nervous system, which is composed of two key branches - Parasympathetic (which allows us to rest, relax, digest and recharge and the Sympathetic - responsible for our stress response and survival by controlling functions such as heart rate, blood sugar and the hormone cortisol that enables us to escape threats.
The vagus nerve is the parasympathetic nervous system's primary nerve which travels from our brain stem into a large number of organs and tissues such as the gut, lungs and heart. A healthy parasympathetic nerve response is vital for our mental wellbeing and physical health. However due to the pressures of modern life and chronic stress many of us are constantly in a physiological "fight or flight" mode. It's this stress that is a fundamental driver of many of today's chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes and irritable bowel disease.
Listen in as we chat about key ways to support a healthy vagus nerve function.

Adaptogenic herbs, also referred to as “adaptogens,” are defined as agents that support the body's ability to accommodate varying physical and emotional stresses. How many times can you think of a point in your life where you could use that? (for example, stress at work, family stress, and physical stress on your body.) Is this something that could really be out there, easily accessible to us all?
Currently people use caffeine for this same effect. People drink multiple cups of coffee each day to give them a lift when they get tired. Some people drink soda. However, these choices tend to end with a crash. Adaptogens are herbs that have been used for thousands of years in both Chinese medicine and Ayurvedic medicine where they are the basis of preventative approaches. These herbs are used to support one's energy and better handle stress.
Acupuncturist, presenter and creator of the Chi Cycle health system. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is my profession, passion and purpose. I taught it for a decade, write books that popularise elements of it, and I’m a practitioner in the traditional sense as I combine research and clinical practice with hours of chi-practice daily. It all began in rehab, one I ran that is. Although one I was a patient in could have been just as likely as a good decade of my life was devoted to altered states. And although that didn’t end well, it did lead me to Chinese medicine and chi, and that opened more doors than the drugs ever did. Preventative health is a passion and my version of lifestyle medicine is based on the Chinese organ clock, the idea that chi circulates through our organs every 24 hours, and that changing what you do when will change everything for the better. It imagines us all as cogs in complex and mystical cosmic workings and if we just realign, life becomes more meaningful and mystical by the day. I developed a residential rehab program based on this concept, and the healing and transformative medium of chi.

SACRED GEOMETRY, GEOMETRICA and MATHEMAGICS
In nature, we find patterns, designs and structures from the most minuscule particles, to expressions of life discernible by human eyes, to the greater cosmos. These inevitably follow geometrical archetypes, which reveal to us the nature of each form and its vibrational resonances. They are also symbolic of the underlying metaphysical principle of the inseparable relationship of the part to the whole. It is this principle of oneness underlying all geometry that permeates the architecture of all form in its myriad diversity. This principle of interconnectedness, inseparability and union provides us with a continuous reminder of our relationship to the whole, a blueprint for the mind to the sacred foundation of all things created.

Heather Moore
Hi, my name is Heather. Thank you to Cat for allowing me to share my story. In October 2014 my world changed forever. My late husband Bernie woke up with a headache that increasingly got worse. After a visit to his GP and blood tests, they were none the wiser why the headaches were happening. He was sent off for a CT scan of his brain to work out the mystery.
It was this scan that showed he had 8 tumours on this brain. Further scans revealed a large tumour on his lung and smaller ones around his pituitary gland. Further testing on these tumours confirmed he had Stage 4 Metastatic Melanoma. All we could tell the kids (we had 3, 12, 9 and 6) was that Daddy was in hospital to help with his headaches.
Together we spent the next 15mths trying to stop the beast. He had two back to back brain surgeries, many rounds of immunotherapy and finally as a last effort, he endured only 2 rounds of Chemo before he was declared palliative with no more options for us. This was almost 12mths to the day of finding out he had cancer.

From a spiritual POV, the idea behind karmic relationships is that the two of you made an agreement before your souls entered this lifetime, to help each other on your respective paths. Very often, there are numerous unresolved issues from past lives. When people open to learning rather than try to control each other, then much healing can occur. In this way, karmic relationships are like guides or teachers. And usually, they're temporary. They're meant to help you grow at soul level in often difficult push-pull ways. But usually they are not intended to last a long time. This is because you are coming together in this life to clear karma between each other. It's often a balancing out of a bad experience from a past life.
But no matter what you call it, it does help to understand patterns in any relationship—especially toxic ones. Knowing if you're in a karmic relationship can help you move forward and work through whatever lesson is presenting itself through that person—so when you do move forward, you'll be ready for a love that lasts.

Sibeal Hurley from Great Ocean Road Health delivers a scintillating update on the COVID testing, Great Ocean Road Health Hike and the pivoting Second Sales.
Highly acclaimed, gifted, awarded and media sought
Professor Ian Brighthope.
Listen in as we discuss the research behind vitamins C, D & Zinc . Professor Brighthope will also address efforts he has made to campaign widely to try to get the Government to consider introducing preventative protocols and evidence based natural treatment options for Covid 19.
In late February 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic had been affecting countries around the globe. Pro- fessor Brighthope realised that there would be a need for people to improve their state of health and increase their resistance to this new and novel coronavirus.
From previous experience and based on the scientific literature, he initiated a prophylactic and treatment protocol titled “The CD Zinc Campaign”. It consisted of the use of vitamin C, vitamin D and Zinc as oral supplements and the use of high dose vitamin D for deficiency states and high dose intravenous vitamin C for acutely and severely ill patients, either as outpatients or inpatients. The campaign was taken to the federal gov- ernment, unions, public, media and business.
The National Institute of Integrative Medicine’s (NIIM) Professor Ian Brighthope said there was mounting evidence the widely available nutrient VIT D could play a significant defensive role against coronavirus. A large portion of Victoria’s COVID-19 death toll can be linked to the aged care sector. Professor Brighthope is calling for a vitamin D rollout in Australia’s aged care facilities “without delay”, arguing the supplements can help build immunity to COVID-19 and help save hundreds if not thousands of lives.
ABOUT: Professor Ian Brighthope:
A retired Medical Practitioner who graduated over 40 years ago with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. He also has qualifications and experience in agricultural science and research. He originally specialised in Immunology but decided early in his career to focus on nutrition, nutritional, environmental medicine and herbal medicine as he understood they were the building blocks and keystones to health.
Professor Brighthope is the founding president of Australasian College of Nutritional and Environmental Medicine (ACNEM) and has a lifelong ambition to help change the way medicine and healthcare is practised for the benefit of the public.
Professor Brighthope has published extensively for the general public and has appeared regularly in the media as an advocate of nutritional and environmental health. He is the author of 5 books and many scientific and medial lectures and reviews. His books have been endorsed by many luminaries, most notably the late Linus Pauling, the only person to have ever been awarded two unshared Nobel Prizes.
“Research from around the world is showing that vitamin D can play an essential role in both building immunity to the virus in the first place and also reducing the impact of the disease on those who do fall ill,” Prof Brighthope said.
Professor Ian Brighthope believes vitamin D can help build immunity to COVID-19. One in five Australians are vitamin D deficient, with the statistics more damning among higher-risk groups, Prof Brighthope said.
The institute’s founding director Professor Avni Sali said vitamin D could be a “cheaper and safe” method of safe guarding elderly Australians against COVID-19 until a safe and effective vaccine was found.
Lets chat with the highly acclaimed expert to understand the scientific research behind the preventative protocols and evidence based natural treatment for the virus that could just be your life saber.

It's well worth a listen.
Just because the doors are shut doesn't mean that Marrar Woorn has slowed down. Quite the reverse! Sally Forrester and her Neighbourhood house team are busy in the virtual world AND the real world with a free concert, free masks, food parcels and much more.
A dedicated career health professional, Andrea Russell is Great Ocean Road Health's Director of Clinical Services. She oversees the standards in both Lorne and Apollo Bay. It's a big job at the best of times, but with COVID it's especially demanding. Take a minute to meet Andrea and the challenges she faces.
Dr Catherine Fyans, MMBS - Integrative Medical Practitioner with 40 years of experience, author of The Wounding of Health Care - joins us.
In our current state - Media is perpetuating fear and not disseminating both sides of medical journalism. Much is being censored that is creating polarisations and divisions between the population. Unfortunately this is creating much stress - prolonged stress is creating survival mechanisms within us that are hostile. Are we getting the whole story on the virus?
Catherine has worked as a medical practitioner, as her ‘day job’, for many years, and for most of that time as an ‘integrative’, or ‘holistic’, general practitioner. She has also trained in, and been informed by, other health care disciplines, including kinesiology, and is passionate about integrating the best of these different health care disciplines. Her interest in other health care practices has challenged many of the dogmas that were instilled during her medical training. She believes that no one group ‘owns’ health care and that the authority of one’s health should be rightfully handed back to the client.
It doesn't matter what angle we look at our current situation, we are all in agreeance that something is quite not right. With all due respect to those who have died with the virus and those most at risk, tonight we open our minds and view the current pandemic from a different angle and discuss what viruses can teach us by upgrading our genomic sequence.
THE SARS - V C-19 VIRUS episode with this brilliant & humble Professor about what she and her team is doing with her latest research on SARS- V Covid -19 virus.
Professor Vasso Apostolopoulos is currently the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Research Partnerships at Victoria University. She received her PhD majoring in immunology in 1995 from the University of Melbourne, and the Advanced Certificate in Protein Crystallography from Birkbeck College, University of London. Her expertise is multi-disciplinary with extensive expertise in immunology, x-ray crystallography, medicinal chemistry, cellular biology, molecular biology. She has extensive translational research expertise with development of drugs and vaccines. Vasso was a Chief Scientific Officer for 4Gvaccines, is on the board, and consults for, a number of pharmaceutical companies worldwide, and is the Director of VAConsulting Services. She was the head of the Immunology and Vaccine Unit at the Austin Research Institute and at the Burnet Institute; the Immunology Program Leader in the Centre for Chronic Disease at Victoria University; and is the Mechanisms and Interventions in Health and Disease Program Leader at the Institute for Health and Sport, Victoria University.
Professor Vasso Apostolopoulos is a world-renowned researcher who has been recognised with over 100 awards for the outstanding results of her research. Most notable are the Premier’s Award for Medical Research, Young Australian of the Year (Vic), Greek Australian of the Year, Woman of the Year. She was named as one of the most successful Greeks abroad by the prestigious Times magazine.
Vasso was the first in the world to develop the concept of immunotherapy for cancer in the early 1990s, which today is used by hundreds of labs around the world. Immunotherapy aims to boost specific immune cells and program them to kill cancer cells; it was used by Vasso to develop the world’s first breast cancer vaccine with phase I, II and III clinical trials completed. Of note, one of the studies now has long-term follow-up data showing that 20 years later those injected with the vaccine remain cancer free. It has been licensed to an Australian pharmaceutical company.
Using immunotherapy, Vasso has also developed the world’s first ovarian cancer vaccine, which attracted the investment by a pharmaceutical company and has been commercialised in the Middle East. Committed to the wide-ranging benefits of immunotherapy, Vasso has applied this approach to other diseases including a vaccine for multiple sclerosis (which will undergo human clinical trials early in 2019). Most recently, Vasso’s work has been awarded a research grant to develop a vaccine for type-1 diabetes. We'll chat about Covid research, symptoms and what we can do to reduce the virus.
We interview The Dingo Advocate and author of his recently released new book, Dawn of a Dingo Day.
Most Australians are unaware of the vital role the dingo plays within the Australian eco system, and this lack of knowledge has led to ecological chaos today. DAWN OF A DINGO DAY takes an in-depth look at this remarkable animal and exposes the truth of the matter, a reality which we cannot deny any longer if we want to restore ecological harmony, back into this land.
DAWN OF A DINGO DAY by Yosef Lasarow “Prior to the colonisation by the British in 1788, Australia was rich in biodiversity with a vibrant and thriving environment and its heartbeat sound and strong. The dingo reigned over the animal kingdom, and the Aboriginal first nation population lived in harmony with the land, understanding and honouring the rhythms and natural laws that govern all Earth. It was a Garden of Eden in a sense, simple and honest and true. The richness of the Australian natural landscape (which we can still behold in a few remaining places), is a direct product of masterful management in its ideal form. For the last two centuries, Australian governments and the livestock farming industry have targeted dingoes as the primary culprits of livestock predation and have gone to extreme lengths to safeguard the industry from them, hence the ongoing 1080 bating, shooting, trapping, and the infallible, five-thousand-kilometre dingo fence. Today, this relentless perseverance has led to ecological havoc as the system now spirals out of control and no one seems to know why?”
About the book DAWN OF A DINGO DAY is a short but concise work, adorned with beautiful photography, and filled with thought provoking material that every Australian should know. It was conceived through the shocking realisation that the Australian society, bar First Nation Peoples and a minuscule handful of passionate individuals, are oblivious to the dingo ‘footprint’, and the vital role they play, and that its ongoing persecution is the primary cause of Australia’s current eco crisis. It is with these concerns in mind that I have sketched a portrait of the dingo within the Australian landscape, demonstrating the dependence of the system on its presence, and highlighting, as a solution, that dingo protection is the golden key to the salvation of large sectors of the ecology. This work also addresses the current livestock predation issues and argues that mandated dingo protection will not only lead towards ecological stabilisation but will also result in a lessening of livestock predation the more stable the system becomes. Finally, and in some ways most importantly, it strives to stimulate (inter)national awareness, of yet another of Earth’s … hidden iconic gems!!!
About the Author Yosef Lasarow was born in South Africa in 1962 and has dedicated his life to a passionate search for truth and the purpose of life. After moving to Australia Yosef has dedicated the last ten years developing his eco-wildlife park, the Great Ocean Road Wildlife Park, in Victoria. It was there that he discovered the masterful and essential ecomanagement skills of the dingo and the vital ecological role they play and have played for thousands of years on Australian soil.
Quote from Lyn Watson, Director of the Australian Dingo Foundation “This short work by Yosef Lasarow, an experienced tender of the earth, who has resettled here from another plundered land and for a relatively short time appreciated Australia’s unique forms of beauty, should shake us to our very inner foundations, because he sees with experienced eyes and heart. It is a book I wish I had written, but was always pressured by the immediate battle, put aside for when time was mine. After more than 30 years living closely with dingoes, I have comprehended the enormity of their nature given task. It will not be a laborious read. I truly commend it.”

What can you do to prepare for the THE NOVEL CORONA VIRUS/ COVID- 19
Just what is going on with this virus? And just how dangerous is it ? What precautions can we take? Should we be worried considering it comes from the same family as the cold and flu, SARS and MERS? It has had quite an impact economically globally - what does it mean for our health?
Vasso and I will chat about the Novel Corona Virus that is reaching pandemic proportions around the world. We''l no doubt both have our own takes on it from a medicinal perspective.
Not a podcast of fear or scare tactics but one to empower individuals how you can maintain your best health in the virus season.
LAUGHTER IS THE BEST MEDICINE THE WELLNESS COUCH
The idea that a positive outlook on life and a cheery disposition help to stave off illness is as old as the hills. Perhaps surprisingly, this adage is much more than an old wives’ tale.
Over the last few decades, the intriguing and pervasive links between neuroscience and the immune system have slowly been uncovered. What might seem, at first, like an uneasy marriage between the brain and immunity has steadily grown into a fully fledged interdisciplinary area of study in the one of my favourite topics, Psychoneuroimmunology.
It is well established, in the minds of most people, that stress can induce illness and that, conversely, a fun-filled occasion with loved ones can soothe aches and pains and stave off the very same illness.
With all the challenges much of the world has been facing over the last few months, The Wellness Couch thought it time to break the drought and add some humour to let go of stress and fear that is so prevalent today. Lets ramp up the humour and stimulate our immune systems along the way.
Meet our Subject Matter expert speaker - Philippa Challis, The Laughter Lady from Live Life Laughing and the Geelong Laughter Club.

Dr. Lucia Kelleher made a breakthrough brain discovery from her PhD, Busy Brain Syndrome in the early 2000’s. BB or loss of brain bandwidth is caused by our digital world severely compromising brain processing and is the leading cause of ‘human factor’ issues in organisations.
We need the digital world for our social and business enterprises - but has it harmed us in more ways than we could forsee? More connected than ever with our technology yet more disconnected in a myriad of ways than ever before. And just how does this technology change our neurotransmitters that are so important to our health and other dimensional awareness?
Are we addicted to our smart phones? Do you have flurries of fury over your teenager being "attached" to their devices constantly? If you think your're not addicted then think again. How many times do you have the urge to check your phone even for an instant? We'll be in discussion about technology and its affects on the human brain and health - the facts and the solutions to our overwhelm and brain disintegration on the show when we chat to Dr Lucia.

Ian White Australian Bush Flowers Company
Ian obtained his Bachelor of Health Science from the university of NSW. For the last 40 years Ian has been practicing successfully as a naturopath and homeopath. Ian is a fifth generation Australian herbalist. Both his grandmother and great grandmother were early pioneers in researching and discovering the medicinal properties of Australian plants and as a boy, Ian spent a great deal of his time with his grandmother in the bush learning from her.
Since 1987, Ian has travelled Australia extensively, researching and developing a range of specific remedies using native flowers from diverse areas such as Northern Territory, Kakadu, Olgas, the Kimberley, South Australian deserts, south west Western Australia, Victorian health lands and Sydney sandstone region.
These remedies are used by naturopathic practitioners, medical doctors, pharmacists and other individuals to assist in healing emotions.
Ian is the author of the book Australian Bush Flower Essences and regularly contributes to well known Australian publications such as Wellbeing and Nature and Health. A regular guest on television and radio talk shows, he also taught at many leading Australian Naturopathic Colleges. He runs his own workshops on the Australian Bush Flower Essences regularly throughout Australia, North America, South America, Asia ad Europe.
I was very lucky to be taught by the best in the industry. Lucky enough to be exposed to Ian White, founder of Australian Bush Flower Essences. Australian Bush Flower Essences are catalysts to unlock your full potential, resolve negative beliefs and create emotional health and well being.
Flower Remedies are not new. The Australian Aboriginals have always used flowers to heal the emotions, as did the Ancient Egyptians. There has also been a very long tradition of use of Flower Essences in India, Asia and South America and they were also very popular in Europe in the Middle Ages. Hildegard von Bingen (12th century) and Paracelsus (15th century) both wrote about how they collected dew from flowering plants to treat health imbalances. Enjoy this podcast from a great Australian.
Great Ocean Road Health's new Director of Nursing, Libby Van Leewen chats about the role, her background and her hopes for the next few years.
Lynn From the Australian Dingo Foundation
The Australian Dingo Foundation is a not-for-profit organization established to promote the conservation of the dingo (Canis dingo) as a species, and to help maintain biodiversity in Australian ecosystems. Among other activities, it provides support to the Dingo Discovery Sanctuary to preserve a captive pure dingo population for possible future re-introductions, facilitate non-invasive research and help educate the public about the species and its serious plight.
There has been such a resurgence of interest in our Australian dingoes of late especially since quite a few well known celebrities have an interest in dingoes and championing their support, such as Peter Hitchner from channel 9 news, the guy from The Bachelorette that loved his dogs - forgot his name along with the show, and many more suddenly popping out of the wood works loving our Australian pure bred native dingo.
But this little resilient pup that has won the heart of the nation, Wandi (the purebred dingo pup that dropped from the air into a backyard garden turns out to be part of an endangered breed), is putting the Foundation on the map -
We'll talk to Lynn Watson, a huge advocate for Dingoes who is highly educated about scientific research and has decades of hands on experience having over 35 pair of dingoes at her foundation. And we'll have our own story to tell......
Dingoes their misconceptions 1080 bait Renewed interest in dingoes and relationship to biodiversity and of course we'll see how Wandi the magic Dingo who fell from the skies is going.
MONICA GAGLIANO, PhD, Thus Spoke The Plant
Ethnobotany is becoming mainstream - we need it in our current cultural climate to survive, to form a connection back to nature. Who better to chat to about this subject than the author and advocate of plants, Monica, who wrote the famous book last year, "Thus Spoke The Plant."
Monica is Research Associate Professor of Evolutionary Ecology. She is currently based at the University of Sydney as a Research Affiliate at the Sydney Environment Institute and a Senior Research Fellow at the School of Life and Environmental Sciences, opening the doors of the brand-new BI Lab – Biological Intelligence Lab.
She is the author of numerous scientific articles in the fields of animal and plant behavioral and evolutionary ecology, and is the co-editor of The Green Thread: Dialogues with the Vegetal World (Lexington Books, 2015) and The Language of Plants: Science, Philosophy and Literature (Minnesota University Press, 2017).
Her most recent book is Thus Spoke the Plant: A Remarkable Journey of Groundbreaking Scientific Discoveries and Personal Encounters with Plants (North Atlantic Books, 2018). Her work has extended the concept of cognition (including perception, learning processes, memory and consciousness) in plants. Gagliano has pioneered the brand-new research field of plant bioacoustics, for the first time experimentally demonstrating that plants emit their own 'voices' and, moreover, detect and respond to the sounds of their environments.
Monica Gagliano reveals the dynamic role plants play in genuine first-hand accounts from her research into plant communication and cognition. By transcending the view of plants as the objects of scientific materialism, Gagliano encourages us to rethink plants as people--beings with subjectivity, consciousness, and volition, and hence having the capacity for their own perspectives and voices. The book draws on up-close-and-personal encounters with the plants themselves, as well as plant shamans, indigenous elders, and mystics from around the world and integrates these experiences with an incredible research journey and the groundbreaking scientific discoveries that emerged from it. Gagliano has published numerous peer-reviewed scientific papers on how plants have a Pavlov-like response to stimuli and can learn, remember, and communicate to neighboring plants. She has pioneered the brand-new research field of plant bioacoustics, for the first time experimentally demonstrating that plants emit their own 'voices' and, moreover, detect and respond to the sounds of their environments. By demonstrating experimentally that learning is not the exclusive province of animals, Gagliano has re-ignited the discourse on plant subjectivity and ethical and legal standing. This is the story of how she made those discoveries and how the plants helped her along the way.
We were lucky enough to have this amazing being stay with us and this Live Radio Replay is what transpired during her stay with us.... Oh and its the most exciting book I have ever read - And I have read many!!!!A must read for all to transform your perception and ignite your imagination to what is possible!!!

Is the Musculoskeletal system your thing? Natural healing?
An osteopath is an Health professional who specialises in the treatment of the musculoskeletal system. Osteopaths believe that the body can heal itself if the right combination of manual techniques such as massage and the manipulation of muscles, joints, ligaments and tendons are used to bring the body back to a cohesive whole. Since graduating from RMIT in 2004, Dale has furthered his post graduate studies with Osteopathy in the cranial field for 15 years, with the founder of this program, Dr James Jealous in BIODYNAMIC OSTEOPATHY. AN osteopathic approach based on the principle that the body has its own inherent healing mechanism present throughout life.
The biodynamic view of osteopathy recognises that the embryological forces, that created the embryo, are also the forces of growth and development and the sustaining restorative forces throughout life.
Working with these therapeutic, homeostatic forces, the practitioner is able to communicate with the reorganization of the body as a whole, through the internal disengagement, synchronization and transmutation within tissue, fluid and potency.
Dale has worked in many clinics including Queensland and Melbourne before settling into a home based clinic in Geelong for 9 years, which he ran with the help of his wife Jackie. 3.5 years ago the call came to move to Skenes creek where Dale and Jackie have lived since, travelling to Geelong 3 days a week to sustain an osteopathic practice Dale started previously at a home practice in Geelong.
