Real name Mlungisi Ashton Khanyile , he was born in 1985 in his hometown Empangeni north of KwaZulu Natal but he then went to Durban and grew up there as he was taking care of his academic record, he later came back to his hometown for his tertiary studies as he attended Umfolozi Richtek College. DJ Spice has always had the love and passion for music since growing up as a kid. After completing he took to the streets of Durban and surrounding townships playing music whenever he got an opportunity to make people dance. He has been one of the best DJ’s in LZN and his first break through was in 2006 when he won DJ Knock out competition on Durban Youth Radio (DYR) and was sent to the big city of Johannesburg to attend Southern African Music Conference (SAMC) by the DJU Foundation & Department Of Arts & Culture. He learnt a lot from this conference that helped him pave his way in the industry.
DJ Spice has performed at huge events opening and sharing the stage alongside the likes of BLACK COFFEE, DJ ANDY X, GANYANI, CULOE DE SONG, CHRISTOS & VINNY DA VINCI and other local acts. DJ Spice has also showcased his mixing skills and talent on Radio stations such as UKHOZI FM, METRO FM, GAGASI FM just name a few…
In 2011 & 2018 DJ Spice was nominated & voted Best Local DJ by the city of Umhlathuze Awards as well as 035 Summer Awards in Richards Bay (KZN) The Awards really put DJ Spice on the map within’ the music industry as in the same years since he won has played in big events in CAPE TOWN , EASTERN CAPE & MPUMALANGA PROVINCE Dj Spice is now one of the finest resident DJ & Radio show host at Ibiza’s NO.1 House Music station that is www.ibizaliveradio.com Sundays 12-1pm (CET) Where he showcases his music knowledge with a worldwide audience and South Africa as a nation that he represents.
